We were looking for a great itinerary.Excellent on Spirit. However we spent too much money on NCL shuttles since they were not free in Dubrovnik or Venice. The food was average and in general the waiters were amateurish in the dining rooms. The entertainment was very limited. We spent most of the time in Champagne Charlie's listening to piano music. No movies were offered in the evening, basically 50 dollars a pop on bingo games. What a rip-off!.The staff in general were very polite especially the room steward. For us the whole trip was ruined by what we observed at the Mercuri vineyard in Katakolon. While walking around we saw three dogs, a hound type, very friendly, chained up with a damaged leg, limping badly. In another enclosure were two Dalmations with horribly infected eyes, filthy dirty. We were very upset to see this. Would we travel with N.C.L. again? Well after two cruises with them and three with Princess. Forget N.C.L. Read Less

My husband and I decided to take a spontaneous cruise to the Bahamas to celebrate our anniversary and just to get away. We booked this through Expedia not really researching this particular cruise line prior to purchasing. We saw that it had an open bar which doesn’t really appeal to us as we don’t drink, but we do like to get virgin piña colada‘s, so we were excited. However as soon as we boarded the ship we noticed immediately that the atmosphere was like that of spring break gone wrong. People were already drunk and partying by the pools Which immediately made it undesirable to go lay out. So we walked around and explored a little bit. At one point I expressed to my husband that I felt out of place because of all the partying. I personally noticed that there wasn’t that much to do on board unless you like to gamble, drink, or enjoy a cheesy show. The room was nice, but if you’re looking to relax and watch TV at the end of the day, you’re not going to find what you’re looking for. They literally have four or five channels dedicated to the cruise ship, three news channels and two movie channels. This ship is definitely NOT for families. After seeing a couple of families around we commented that we were glad our children were not with us for this vacation due to the whole atmosphere. Even a Norwegian employee commented that ever since they started providing the open bar, it changed the whole atmosphere of the ship. The shows were really unprofessionally done and as someone who works in the hospitality field, I felt like there were things with the entertainment and accommodations that could have been done way better and more fun for the guests! One other thing that really upset me was the lovely surprise of an extra $120 on our final bill because of a $20 per person per day service charge. We didn’t read the fine print so we were incredibly surprised by that and felt it was sneaky on Norwegians part. They should include that in the price you pay up front which is just a simple courtesy. I will say, The islands were beautiful and we did enjoy the all you can eat food. I liked that they extended the buffet to the first island, which is Stirrup Cay, their personal island. That way we didn’t have to think about lunch and that was nice. The day on Nassau was great as well. In all honesty, My favorite things were OFF of the ship. Nevertheless, we enjoyed ourselves just being together and exploring a new country that we’d never been too but all in all we would never cruise with Norwegian again. Read Less

Chose a mini suite 9802 mid ship for the price. The ninth deck is one deck above the fatcats lounge noisy band that plays until 1am walls vibrate from sound of bad and drum obnoxiously for hours each night. The internet packages are the most expensive of all cruises lines we've been on and the worse service. Apps dont work cant even get email. No one seems to care enough to solve problems or are not empowered. Sad the smallest mini suite is so uncomfortable and frustrating with the band noise every night. We came on this cruise to relax and enjoy the lack of good quality internet has prevented me to do business and the noise each evening made relaxation at night nonexistent. Pros: The entertainers were very good (Jojo, Jeff, Deal or No Deal guy, etc.), The room staff was great (Harvey). Karaoke is fun. The kids club is good for the younger children. Cons: The waiters were OK, the buffet felt super repeated, the game prizes truly were awful for what you pay, the pool area was too small and just super crowded. There are too many people on the ship, it's very crowded. The restaurant meals were eh. I most likely would not go on the Escape again. Overall out of a 10 I would rate it a 4. Somethings were great but overall it wasn't very appealing to me. For what you pay, it seems as if they just keep charging for a bunch of little things and to me, that is very cheap, especially for such a large named cruise line. Also, the port getting in and out took very long and just was so crowded, busy and aggravating. Read Less

I choose this cruise because it included drinks (beverages and alcohol) while other cruises you had to pay an extra fee for drinks. Different bars said certain things were not included some said they were which was aggravating. Everyone should be on the same page. The worst thing on the cruise was the food! At the buffet if you did not eat Indian food (which was 80% of the buffet)....the only decent options were pasta, burgers, hotdogs, and fries, which we got very tired of eating. There were several buffet lines in the Garden Buffet....2 or more of the lines had the EXACT same foods. So I would rate a 0 for variety of food. The dinning restaurants (complimentary) food was just as bad. Hardly no options if you were a picky eater or vegetarian. There were no sides listed on the menu if you wanted to sub out a side...you just had to read over what came with the other entrees because the waiter did not know the sides. The deserts were horrible (sugarfee and not made with real ingredients). There was no food available after 5am. No soda/water after 5am. On Sunday there was nothing available after 3. However, the cruise was “open bar” and “unlimited” clearly it was not unlimited. Of course we could’ve purchased a ridiculously expensive water package but no way to get a soda or free water after everything closes. The ship also canceled a destination stop at Great Stirrup Cay. As I am aware, itenaries can change however, to spend one day at sea and not extend the time spent in the Bahamas was not the best customer service experience. I specially chose this cruise instead of another one because it had two stops. Nothing was sent to me to notify this change until we boarded and a letter was placed in our room. There was not enough info for first time cruisers...or maybe just in general. We had no idea that there was an elegant dinner with the crew that we could sign up for a raffle for until we asked was there a captain dinner and at that point it was too late to sign up. We were also not told that nothing to eat is available after 5am which is ridiculous being that we obviously cannot leave the ship. The shore excursions, I rate a 2....too expensive and very basic. We didn’t even use our shore excursion credit. The activities weren’t bad...could’ve been more to do that was free. For instance, bingo was not free. I would not go on Norwegian again unless it was free and I was guaranteed better food with more of a variety. Read Less

Long line for embarkation (1 hour wait). Cabin was extremly small compared to other cruise lines. Bread was stale/old...every single time at the restaurants. The quality of the food and variaty was not great. The wait time was long to get your food. On two separate occassions, people that had come after us had been served their meal before us. One of the pools was actualy drained during the cruise to be painted. Public bathrooms were not serviced with hand soap or soap dispenser was not working. Hands and feet cut off out of pictures, which showed poor quality of pictures. I actually took a private tour, which was half of Norwegian's fees and resulted to be the highlight of our trip. At times we got conflicted information from guest services related to money exchange while in Cuba. The staff was not friendly and looked miserable. Overall, i was not impressed with this cruise line. Read Less

The Getaway was over booked with kids and young families. The children dominated the ONE pool on the ship for the entire vacation. The children were rude, unsupervised by parents, screamed on the ship, and made the vacation for mature adult couples unpleasant. Several times during the day I had to call housekeeping about getting our room cleaned. This happened on a daily basis. The Internet service was slow, and at times not working. I did ask for a 1 day refund of the cost for Internet since it stopped working on that day. The customer relations refused my request. We had the full inclusive beverage package, but still had to pay over $43.00 for bottled water. Bottle water is not included in the inclusive beverage package, which I was never told. The cardio fitness room was small with several broken machines. All excursions were fun, except the Sight Seeing with Limited Mobility in Roatan. Stay away from this excursion. The transportation was old, not designed for adults with mobility issues, and the sights were not worth your time and money. I am going back to Royal Caribbean - Oasis of the Seas since I know the fabulous quality and service on this ship. Read Less

Alaska was our bucket list. We booked far in advance and were so excited. My husband and I traveled from Arkansas w our 12 year old and my in laws. Our stateroom with balcony was very clean and spacious. Our stewardess was wonderful. The cruise in a nutshell was terrible. Incredibly crowded. Specialty dining, go carts, laser tag, and spa needed a reservation.. that could not be booked until on board. Once getting to our room spa was booked up, laser tag booked. Laser tag.. addtiontal cost. Go carts the only reservation available was 1030 at night.. $10pp.. too cold to swim.. shows were not kid friendly.. lots of cussing.. if you are not a gambler, kareokeer or heavy drinker this cruise is not for you. The activities on board included napkin folding and towel folding classes... let that sink in... $10,000 cruise with additional $400+ just for entertainment. $6 a game to bowl $2-$3 for arcade games. Juneau and Victoria were the only ports worth seeing. In Juneau we did a float plane and it was amazing. Burchart gardens in Victoria are stunning. We just returned from our cruise on the Bliss for my parents 50th wedding anniversary. This trip had been planned for almost a year and all of us were looking forward to the cruise but were getting nervous after reading numerous reviews before going. We had 7 adults and 4 children with us (ages 6-10). The boarding process went very smooth I think we were on the ship within less than 30 minutes, but once we boarded that's when the chaos started. Once on the ship we went straight to reservations for the go carts and the lazer tag, four of us were in different lines trying to make reservations. This took about an hour and half to get tot the front just to be told that everything was booked. We did actually get reservations for both by complaining throughout the cruise but both attractions weren't even really worth it. But, if you or your kids really want to take advantage of the go carts my sister heard someone talking about a week long unlimited pass for $99, not sure it you would just wait standby to use the pass. I felt like you could probably just wait by the line whenever you want and get on. If you like the idea of waterslides think again. The slides are only open a few hours of the day and they only have two of them. One of the slides is a drop slide that they won't even let you go on unless you are over 100lb, which left our kids to only be able to use the one slide. The hours of the slide are a joke, I think it was open from 11:30 - 2;30 and again for another hour or so. It was hard to see them close the slide on a beautiful day with nothing else to really do on the ship. If you are taking kids I would really think twice there is very little for kids to do on this ship. They do have an arcade but the games are anywhere from $2 - $5 each. This ship is constantly trying to nickel and dime you for everything. As for the food it was pretty lousy even the bigger restaurants. We did go to the Manhattan Room, Savor, and Taste and they all have the same menu, I guess they just try to make them look different. The buffet is not very good just okay. We finally broke down and went to the steak house on the last night and they told us they were full but would squeeze us in, the place was empty. The food was okay nothing crazy, but not worth the $300 we had to spend. LIke I said earlier there really isn't a lot to do on the ship. The highlight of the trip was the "Jersey Boys" show, Havannah wasn't very good. But really, only two shows for a seven night cruise! Also, the drinks were excellent! I highly recommend the drink package, pretty much all we did was drink since there wasn't much else to do. And yes the elevators are horrible, stick to the stairs. I hope this helps some of you guys I could write all night about this cruise but I'm tired. And just remember this cruise is a good chunk of change for most of us that is why I took the time to right this, there are many other ships out there with a lot more to do than the Bliss. Unless you don't want to do anything but sleep and eat, and spend as little time in the ports as possible this is the cruise for you. Good Luck Read Less

How can I drink a frozen drink with no straw????? Our room flooded after our a/c unit froze because it was filled with dust??? This is NOT the cruise for you if you do not want to be bored. Traveled with a 17 yr old, two 30 year olds and two of us in our 50's. Every single one of us were bored. But lets start at the beginning. Booked 2 staterooms - Oceanview #5001,- decent dated nothing special. ADA Balcony #10644- Pole in middle of entrance makes it a little hard to use a scooter, Balcony had a Board to use it with scooter which was narrow so Husband could not use Balcony. They lost my DIL luggage, took 3 trips to Customer Service, we were asked to fill out same papers twice, Finally at 11 pm, it was "Found" in another stateroom.- We printed out tags and used plastic holders so no the tag was not ripped off, someone made an error so she had no clothes for an entire day. Only saw our cabin attendant ONCE the entire trip, no way for Husband to enter the room without help, or exit without help. ADA FAIL!!! Customer Service on ADA- the boat is NOT accessible, they had us in H2 for Mandatory meeting, which only had ONE elevator to service entire floor. He will drown first- plain and simple before he makes it there, took us an hour. Beverage Package is a joke, you can not order a Baileys and Coffee with out being charged EXTRA. Bottle Water is EXTRA. A Can of soda with room service is EXTRA on top of the delivery charge for EACH can. My favorite thing to do on an Alaska Cruise is to sit on my Balcony and sip Baileys and Coffee at 3 am and watch the view. This was ruined this trip. No Alcohol after 1 am even in Casino. Cagneys for food was WONDERFUL! Buffets- plain, same food every day. Indigo- service was TERRIBLE. Summer Palace was better, service was good. The only thing for our 30 year olds to do was gamble, our 17 yr old did make friends no thanks to the teen program, they were all bored , sat from room to room until kicked out for loitering. I am certified Travel Agent who booked a family trip, decided we would try NCL over our normal Royal Caribbean. We were never acknowledged as being part of the travel agency, staff wanted to be gone, terrible cruise, The excursions were wonderful!!! However we booked not from NCL. Only positive was that I did win Bingo on the last day- $64.00 a game, split the pot 4 ways for $300 win, however I was told I had 10 minutes to run to the casino to claim it before it closed for the rest of the cruise- yes I said that the Casino closed on Saturday at 1 pm and did NOT reopen for the remainder of the cruise. In fact EVERYTHING Closed on SATURDAY at 1 pm as they started to FLIP THE BOAT for the next group getting on July 8th. Fitness Club- 30 year old signed up for the week for Spin Classes, the instructor did not wear shoes that clipped in, did not know what he was doing. Tried to peddle with feet on top. TERRIBLE, left early. Tried again next 2 days again the same, DO NOT CHARGE IF YOU DO NOT HAVE INSTRUCTORS that know what they are doing. We are returning to Royal for fun filled cruises, and yes before you say buy Alaska Cruises are different- I did an Alaska Cruise in 2016 with Royal on the Explorer and it was a trip to remember which is why we decided to go again, sadly we chose the wrong company/ ship this time. This was a great way to see the Hawaiian Islands with a great itinerary but if you have cruised on other cruise lines you will likely be disappointed in the quality of the service and the quality of the food. While we experienced several very good staff members the quality of the service overall is well below what you would expect compared to many other cruise lines. Food quality was eatable but nothing to write home about and the Freestyle dining while it sounds great is inefficient since they are trying to do everything all at the same time. The excursions were good but overpriced. The embarkation and disembarkation processes at the beginning and end of the cruise were good but at ports the disembarkation process was very inefficient. The ship was nice but difficult for those with mobility issues with narrow corridors and the staff kept leaving things sticking out into the corridors so we had trouble negotiating with a wheel chair. Not the quality of other cruises we have been on but it is Hawaii and they are the only cruise line that does this so make sure to get a good deal on you fare and lower your expectations and have a great time. Chose this cruise because of the excursion locations but one trip we went on took over 90 minutes to get there and 90 minutes back. We only got to float the "River" looked man made to me and eat lunch, then had to leave to get back to the ship so we didn't get to enjoy 90% of the other activities we viewed on the selling brochure. The disembarkation was the most unorganized thing I've ever seen. On every other cruise I've been on, the groups getting off were given colored tags. Then they were told to go to the largest dining area and told to stay there until they were told to start to line up to get off. On this ship by 11 am. the 6th floor, the deck to get off on was so packed you couldn't,t move. I know the Captain will blame this on an emergency situation which we had the day before but I say this emergency called for even more intelligent directions. My wife bought a beverage package but if you wanted a coke or special coffee item you had to pay for it. I know NCL will say we should have read the info better but I guess we figured if you wanted a dollar coke instead of a drink valued at $14.95 it wouldn't be a problem. This cruise line will nickel and dime you to death. They also but the gang plank as for away from where you needed to go as possible. Why I don't know? You know they can, put the exit location aft or forward when they dock. I had to walk about 250 yards on the ship to the other end of the ship to where they you got off then when I got off the ship, walk back the 250 yards to where I could have gotten off if they had put the exit on the ship at the other end. They also had one entertainment show you had to pay extra for, I always thought entertainment on cruise ships was included. Oh yes you could watch a movie in your room but it cost #9.95 for each. You know dining used to be special on cruise ships. The ladies were beautiful all dressed up and the men nice in slacks and a golf shirt or a suit. I was really saddened when people came to eat in shorts and t-shirts. I know a lot of people may really like this new way of cruising but I miss the classy way it used to be. Read Less

This is by far a revenue- money maker cruise for NCL and not about the best possible “Guest” experience. With over 4000 cruises NCL “missed the boat” when it comes to “ public” venues...with over 4000 Guests and plenty of cabins they did NOT have public spaces large enough to accommodate a group of this size and everything needed a reservation but was sold out within hours of boarding and up charges for everything?!! NCL has lost their ability to offer “freestyle” cruising but has enhanced their ability to pack people on a ship causing overcrowding but for sure this ship has become a money maker for them! Their Management team had the worst attitude and rude and did not aim to please from Cruise Director to Hotel Director to Group Leaders to Staff...so many rigid rules that benefited NCL but NOT the Guests! Safety issues for sure! On a positive note- food was great but service was slow and Jersey Boys Show was excellent while Havana Show put me to sleep! I loved the single Studio cabin! I have cruised with NCL over 12 times and have been pleased with other ships but I do NOT recommend the Bliss. The PORT of departure experience was the worst ever...no bays for buses and nothing but traffic jams trying to board/disembark from the city streets of Seattle-hard to believe NCL did not have a better plan for a ship with so many passengers?! Best part of this cruise was viewing the beauty of Alaska but that can be done on any ship with any cruiseline NCL needs to step up to compete with other cruiselines for the best “Alaskan” experience! Went with 11 friends and spouse. Rooms were incredibly small. Gym equipment not kept in repair. Hot tub on deck not working. One pool for the entire ship, very very tiny. Entertainment options not good. Extra charges for every restaurant we went to, even though we had speciality dining. I have cruised Royal Caribbean and Carnival. Won’t do NCL again. The entertainment had a lot of crude unnecessary language. Elevators took forever. I found out when I was leaving the ship that someone on board was robbed. Due to bad weather, we we’re forced to re-schedule our excursion . People behind the desk helping us were not friendly or helpful and did not give us an option to cancel. We wound up arriving at 2pm at Horseshoe Beach, just in time for the clouds to roll in again. Waste of time. The excursion we took for a tour of Bermuda was done by a local who was a police officer. He told many uncomfortable stormiest about his personal life and I was really surprised at what he was saying. I departed closest to where I live. It was also recommended to me based upon my older children's ages (21 & 25), but there was no group entertainment/leadership for that age ratio. It rained 75% of the trip and we sailed through it all the time. You would think the ship would detour away from the storms. Entertainment was great indoors, which was were people had to spend most of their time, due to all the rain. Shore excursions were only good for one of the two days, as it also rained the first full day in Bermuda. Dining in restaurants, other than buffet, you have to keep in mind, restaurants are only open until 9pm; however, people do sometimes like to dine later in the evening - and have no choice but to choose buffet all week, or wait in line by the restaurants early in the evenings. I do have to say one good thing, the ship is well maintained and cleaned. The staff is great, well-trained, respectful and if you ask me....overworked! Read Less

The embarkation process was pretty slow. When we arrived at our room, the door was wide open, wires hanging from the ceiling and the ceiling light fixtures were on the table. This was fixed the first night. Our luggage arrived two hours after the deadline. Our room steward was awful.....never vacuuming up the massive fuzz created by the new carpet, never taking away our dirty dishes, or replenishing our coffee supply and cups. We never saw him after the first day and we never got the cute towel animals or turn down service as requested. I complained to the front desk twice about this. The room itself was spacious, and I loved the full size tub and shower. The muster drill was chaotic at best. The Tendering was bad both times. We lost hours in port due to a very disorganized process. Nearly everyone I met on the ship was sick and coughing. The public restrooms were constantly out of order and overflowing. The elevators would not work at all. One bank would never light up and the other had the up and down mixed up. Be ready to take the stairs! The food was mediocre....runny scrambled eggs every single day. Service in the specialty steakhouse was lackluster at best. And the disembarkation process was a huge cluster as well, being delayed for hours. The only good thing about this cruise was the amazing itinerary. Read Less

We chose this cruise because we have always wanted to go through the Panama Canal. Going through the Panama Canal was the highlight of the trip and the only part of the cruise that I would recommend anybody doing. The stop in Costa Rica was absolutely awful. Puntarenus, Costa Rica was our excursion for that day. Excursion was titled “scenic Costa Rica”. We saw nothing but trees, shack‘s and trash all along the route. I asked the excursion desk people why they even stopped in this area. They said their stops on the cruise ship came from the corporate office. I showed them the pictures I took from our excursion and they agreed, it’s an awful place for the cruise ship to stop, but their hands were tied. I advise them to call it something different then “scenic Costa Rica” because we surely did not see anything scenic. The room stewards were very accommodating, however, the staff in the dining room appeared new to the cruise line and very inexperienced. We had to wait great lengths of time to get our food, which by most standards, was just mediocre. The steaks were tough and the soups were the same almost every night, had very little flavor and not very interesting. There was nothing on the menu in the main dining room that I would write home about. The specialty dining’s were good, not great . The buffet in the upper deck were always crowded because there was not enough room for a more variety of dishes on the service line. They had the same thing almost every single night. Their nightly shows were OK but nothing that I would ever returned to see again. The movies that they showed in the movie theater were geared to children 8 to 15. The movie selections on the TV we’re also geared children. They had the Terminator II, a lego movie and Batman movie and some other child’s movie, They only had five TV channels, three news stations, one TV show station and movie station, again geared to children. TV stations were so bad that even the comedian in one of the shows joked about how bad the TV choices were. I have to say, the average age on this cruise was 65. The activities, movie selections and shows in the main theater should have been geared to a more mature audiences. We did not buy the drink package but we did find that the same glass of wine in one bar would be two dollars more in another bor for the same wine. I will not recommend Norwegian Cruise line anymore. We have been on several Norwiegian cruises, including the Sun the Epic and the Pearl and we will no longer recommend cruising with Norwegian. Read Less

We took a cruise from Boston to Bermuda. The cruise ship was the Dawn. There were some positives like the nightly show and Bermuda itself. The staff was over and beyond and they would get 5 stars from me. The reason my rating is so low are the reasons below. 1) Food. Everything we ate was mediocre. People say that the add on restaurants are better but, we tried those too, and had way better food at home. When paying $400 a day, you expect the food to be better than cafeteria quality. 2) The pool area. There is one small pool for 2,000 guests. So, you can guess it - it’s overcrowded. We didn’t get to use the pool for this reason. 3) Smoking. People can smoke anywhere outside and also in the casino and in the cigar bar inside. This means that there is smoke everywhere on the outside deck (including by the pool) and that you can’t sit at Gatsby’s bar because of it’s proximity to the cigar bar if you don’t want to smell smoke. Also, we wouldn’t even walk through the casino because it was a constant cloud of smoke. We would have loved to gamble but, it wasn’t an option for us for that reason. 4) Entertainment. Aside from the stellar shows at 7 or 9 PM, we struggled to find actual entertainment on board. They would have towel folding seminars or cake decorating that would simply be opportunities for them to sell you something. During the day, the entertainment was that of which you’d find in a retirement home. 5) Cable. NCL advertises that they have cable on board. They simply have a few channels that tell about their ship, three news stations, one popular tv show station and two movies stations. Unfortunately, the tv and movie stations repeat the same movies and episodes every day. We saw the same things over and over. Read Less

We are loyal NCL cruisers and have been on the Epic, Breakaway, Getaway and the Escape multiple times. We are also Platinum level Carnival cruisers. We chose to take this cruise because of the cruise line and the itinerary. The service at O'shehans both the bar and Restaurant were absolutely Horrible!!! The servers and bartenders were rude and slow. The overall service on this ship was lousy. The only shining lights were two bartenders Henry at the Tobacco Road bar and Carlito at the Margaritaville bar. They were both pleasant and engaging. They always had a smile and remembered everyone in our large group. This ship was over crowded, you could not even walk through the common areas. The ship security was lacking as well. We witnessed four (4) fist fights while on board and it involved the same people two times. The security did nothing to solve the problem. The people involved should have been removed from the ship immediately. (especially after the second incident.) One member of our group's cabin was located next door to a cabin with three loud and obnoxious childern. They called to complain more than ten times and nothing was done. The parents of the children threatened our friends who are two elderly women. NCL did nothing to assist or correct the problem. We spent a great deal of time and money in the casino. There were multiple occasions we wanted to grab a quick bite to eat at 0230 am and there were screaming childern in the restaurant and the crew did nothing. Maybe a curfew should be inplimented. The early hour dining is too limited forcing large groups of people to gather in too small of an area. Embarkation: There was a two hour delay due to a "coast guard drill" which had 4000+ people looking for a place to sit in the waiting area. The staff was rude and yelling at people to move out of the aisles but there was no place for us to go. Debarkation: Disorganized and again rude staff. Unfortunately we will be exploring other cruise lines that may be happy to have our business. We wanted to be treated with respect when we are paying for a vacation. Overall we were very unhappy with the service and experience. Read Less

I am TOTALLY FRUSTRATED with NCL at the moment and I would love the opportunity to speak with their CEO or someone from upper management. Pride of America is a relatively small ship compared to the rest of Norwegian’s fleet. The ship is clean and the crew is, for the most part, very friendly. The cost of the cruise, however, was the most expensive I’ve experienced with NCL coming in just shy of $5100 for my wife and I for a balcony cabin located on the 10th level. I kept telling myself this is Hawaii and you get what you pay for. I can only imagine that NCL spends hundreds of thousands, if not millions of dollars to acquire your business and maintain your loyalty, but they missed the mark in our particular case. We have been loyal customers of NCL since switching over from another line several years back. Here are a few things to mull over. We were on the ship for only several hours when a women tripped and fell while exiting a bathroom near the pool area. She landed on my wife’s legs as my wife was entering the bathroom. NCL has a metal ramp going into the bathroom, but there is no similar accommodation as you exit. Next, I don’t believe an Unlimited Beverage Plan is available on POA due to Hawaiian law. However, a waiter at Teppanyaki thought otherwise and questioned where I had heard this. (Just a little embarrassed in front of my friends) Drinks, in my opinion, are very expensive. A Jack Daniels and Coke was $12.35, a Michelob Ultra was $8.63, a can of Pepsi was $4.28, and our friends ordered two Stoly doubles that cost them nearly $50. Next, the food at Cagney’s and Teppanyaki was very good, but both my wife and I were really looking forward to a nice lobster. Sorry, I couldn’t find lobster anywhere, not even in the specialty restaurants. Shrimp and scallops were found, but only on select menus and somewhat limited. Overall the food was pretty good, but the repetition of the same foods made for boring meals. Next, Kevin Brando on piano and a group called These Guys Worldwide were both exceptional entertainers and I wish we had seen more of them. However, the other entertainers on board were in my opinion average at best. Oh, I almost forgot, one group from a local island boarded the ship to entertain us and they were pretty good too! Here I go again telling myself it’s Hawaii. Well, if so, what happened to the visions I had of ample Hawaiian music and dancers? Maybe I was on shore and missed them. Now, I have to come full circle and express why I’m really frustrated. Remember I earlier spoke about the vast amounts of money that NCL spends on advertising to acquire your business and maintain your loyalty through their Latitudes Reward program. The good news is, they have now enhanced their CruiseNext program by allowing you to Double Up, or by applying two deposits towards a cruise that’s at least six months out. However, my frustration and the feeling that I’m being punished is due to, in my opinion, a silly policy that prohibits your use of this incentive if you already have a deposit on that future cruise. Yes, my wife and I, and five others already have $50 deposits on a cruise scheduled for November. It’s my understanding that we meet all of the requirements for this program except for the nominal deposit that’s in place. When talking to the CruiseNext Manager she suggested that we contact our travel agent and see if we could cancel our booking then rebook at the existing rate so we might be able to use the program. My response, Why should we have to do that? Understanding my frustrations she contacted her superiors to see if there was an alternative or exception to this rule. I subsequently received a letter saying there was no relief in this matter. So, here we are. NCL has spent enormous amounts of money to acquire our business and maintain a loyal relationship, but they are unable to overlook the $50 deposits that we have in place towards our next NCL cruise. Not only was that frustrating to accept, but imagine the shade that it cast over the POA cruise that I was currently trying to enjoy. So much for the investment that you’ve made to acquire and maintain our loyalty. Well, loyalty is a two way street. My Mom used to be great with all sorts of old adages. There are many I can think of, but “penny wise and dollar foolish” is perhaps the best in this particular instance. A future relationship with NCL is now very doubtful. Read Less

The crew was excellent but the ship was in poor condition. Windows were all dirty and not washed once during 18 day cruise. Lighting throughout the ship was out in a lot of places. Food was sub par for Norwegian. Just an overall disappointment. Ship was dirty in many areas. Maintenance was chipping and painting in areas above our head during cruise. Walkers and joggers were just above our room and noise was a bit distracting. Shower in handicap room allows water all over floor which becomes quite slippery. There was no hot water in the cabin when we first boarded. There was cold water but if you turned it all the way to hot there was no water at all. Some valve was off somewhere. The crew was awesome despite the conditions of the ship. Entertainment was fantastic except for the Motown act. Ability to take pictures was somewhat difficult at times because of the crowd. Some shore excursions were cheesy so be careful in your choice. Read Less

Foodies Beware! The food on this cruise is absolutely awful. The buffets were below standard- hard rolls, undercooked bacon, cold food in general. The dining room food was not much better. We did an upgraded dinner at the steakhouse which was very good. But we paid an extra $80 for quality that should have been standard in every location. Straws seemed to be in short supply, we were actually told that they had run out. How do you serve frozen drinks without straws? We had to drink our Frose (which by the way, was the highlight of the cruise) with a spoon. The entire cruise also seemed like a "money grab"- Bingo and other activities were an additional charge. The "broadway quality" shows were a joke. Since this cruise was "all you can drink," it was quite the party boat. I would definitly not take children on this trip. The only good thing about the cruise was the excursions in Havana. They were incredible. Read Less

This was my second time with ncl was my 16th Cruise. The food was slow to get out to us once it did it was barely lukewarm. I was in a sweet and had special place that I could have breakfast and lunch. When I ate there the food service was great. It was how it should be in all the dining rooms. When we where on the pool deck there was 2 slide they where not open very much for the kids to play on. We were next to a Carnival ship at Port and there's like was open. People were going down it ours was closed and the kids wanted to go down it. It was just frustrating but I made the best of it and had a good time. Everyone on the boat was nice. There where slow to get you a drink or even ask you for a drink. I will not be going on this cruise line agine. The entertainment was good but the seats were horrible hurt my back felt like you were going to slide off them. Read Less
