We traveled with our best friends to celebrate our belated honeymoon. There were no children with our party. Getting to the port and getting on the ship was very easy and fast. Great parking across from the ship. They are very organized. First, our room was ok, except the shower was clogged. Our room steward (Benji) had it fixed promptly. He was wonderful. The beds however were not comfortable, and they were worn. I had asked for one mattress. Our room had two twins pushed together. Not really what you want for your honeymoon. I was very disappointed that we couldn't cuddle as there was a lump preventing us from being next to one another. I did report this to guest services, however nothing was done. Dirty dishes and general garbage was present in the hallways often. You had to walk around cleaning carts all day and evening. The only time the halls were clear were when we were getting off the ship the last day. Staff on the ship was curtious, but not friendly. Very few staff ever smiled. Workers did not see happy to be there. I never had a conversation with any staff about the ship. The wait staff was very attentive to making sure you were disinfected to the point of insulting. They are always tryiny to spray you with disinfectent, even after they would watch you wash your hands. How dirty do they think you get in 3 feet? All you hear is "washy, washy". They made me feel like a dirty animal after the third day. Continually being accosted with the spray disinfectant . And if you refused to let them spray you they would shake their heads in discust and say "washy, washy". By the way I did witness one worker sneeze and not cover her mouth at the buffet and keep on serving. The buffet was par at best. You could get better food at the mall. The Savor and the Tropicana were excellent. The service, food, and atmosphere were excellent. O'Sheehan's bar and grill advertised that it is always open. Not true. When they got backed up they would " close the kitchen". And not seat anyone and would stop serving. The shows on board were very well done. Bingo was entertaining and had nice prizes. The pool areas were very crowded. As were the bars most of the time. The night themed parties were nice. Good music, attentive bar tenders. The casino was the best. Dealers were professional and fun. Workers in the casino were very attentive and helpful. Cleanest area on the ship, always being attended to. The first port was Roatan. Very nice shopping, the usual tourist stuff, and reasonably priced. Great jewlery, great prices. People very friendly and spoke english very well. Excursions easy to get to with organized transportation. Also, no need to exchange money at any port. Second port was Harvest Kay. This port was made for American shopping. Very expensive and mostly items you can get home at the mall. Butterfly exhibit was disappointing. They only had cocoons. There is a one room jade/Mayan museum that was very interesting. They had Mayan jewlery for sale. Again disappointing as they were out of most of their inventory. Sadly nothing for us to buy. Third port was Costa Maya. Great port! Extensive shopping. Lots of last minute excursions. I did the Mayan ruins. Had the best time! New buses with air conditioning. Our tour guide Kit Corona was witty and knowledgeable about everything from native plants and animals to history on the states and how the Mayan ruins were found. Information on the excavation of the village and what the life of the ancient Mayans was like. Very Informative. Last port was Cozumel. Port to shore was a bit of a walk. There were men with bicycle carts that will ride you to the end of the dock for a donation. Again lots of shopping this time very inexpensive. Many excusions to choose from. Getting a cab was easy but they are crazy drivers. It was a bit scary. I have been on cruises before. Overall NCL fell short of what I expected. I will cruise again. Not with NCL. Read Less

A group of us that are Super fans from NFL teams chose to cruise to the Bahamas, Over all the experience was not great. Food was decent, but service was slow or non existent. Ship was clean but the crew did not seem friendly and seemed disinterested, They did not make you feel welcome. This did not include everyone, just the majority. We did find some that seemed to have fun and made you feel special. Our steward never seemed to materialize but the room was clean and presentable. This was just a very disappointing cruise. Food was as I said decent, Osheehans was our favorite. The buffet was goos as well and the Shanghai Noodle Bar was also one of our favorites. Debarkation was horrendous. No organization and there was major chaos. At this time I would not recommend Norwegian Cruise Lines and our plan is we will not be cruising with them again. I have been on 2 Carnival Ships, 1 Princess and 1 Royal Caribbean, All of those I would recommend. Read Less

I cruised Carnival and Royal Caribbean cruise lines and wanted to try another cruise line. I went with Norwegian Cruise Lines instead of Princess because it was going to 2 other islands that Princess was not, OK so lets talk about what went wrong! We noticed that in the beginning of our cruise, we were smelling sewage in the cabin hallway by our room. The cruise line, receptionist sent someone to spray a refreshsioner on the carpets, which only last for a few hours. We complained a half dozer times along with other passions. We smelled that for 10 days. Another problem was that the food was never hot, only warm. I sure it must be difficult to prepare for a thousand people but other cruise line can do it. The type or one can say menu in the buffet never changed. 10 days of the same thing. This reminds me of feeding our pets, the same thing each meal each day. I believe that Norwegian Cruise Lines must not of vetted the shore excursion vendors. Half of them did not care about their passions and did not give a history of the island on the sight seeing exclusions but instead played their music turned way up and just drove us from point A to point B. One of them even dropped us off at a shopping area and said they will be back in 2 hours, which we do not know what he did or where he went, but he did come back 2 hours later and drove us to another point of interest without and information of the island. After that, took us back to the ship. What a waste of money and time. The only positive rating I could give Norwegian Cruise Line is for their room stewards and the kitchen/galley help. Read Less

Six of my friends and I always do a couples vacation each year, we found this cruise it was a good price and had unlimited drinks as well as good dates. Overall this was the worst cruise experience I’ve had. Multiple bathrooms on the cruise were broke they wouldn’t flush and were full and then overflowed. In one of our three rooms the toilet over flowed during the night and the room was soaked and flooded. My room was very clean and my stateroom Stewart was great and super friendly however the entire five days my bathroom stunk of urine and a port-o-potty despite being cleaned every day. The restaurants were extremely slow and took a minimum of 2 hours and the food was just ok. The buffet had decent food and options but there was not enough finger foods to snack on. The bars were good, at topsiders Eric and Ron both were the best bartenders they went above and beyond to make sure you had a good experience they were friendly and remembered you and your drink of choice. The DJs at bliss were not very open to song requests and were not friendly and got annoyed when we asked them to play the songs we wanted to hear. I would not recommend Norwegian to any family or friends. Read Less

Travel agent advised that we would love this cruise. We were extremely disappointed. Our room was not clean when we went in. We had to ask for everything. Our balcony was not cleaned. Tables were not washed and dirty dishes were left on the table. We find that because we are automatically charged for service, no one cares anymore. We were shocked that there was only one small pool for adults and the hot tubs were dirty. Two out of the 4 people in our group got sick. We will never travel on NCL again. We found that most of the paid entertainment was a gimmick. Very disorganized. Was not enough bar tenders or wait staff for the atrium. We find that the staff is not well informed on the areas of the ship. We paid up for a floor seat for the Cirque show of $48/couple for the floor. This is a total rip off as the theatre is small to begin with and the floor was a table next to the stage. There was absolutely no benefit for paying that much more. We didn't end up seating on the floor as we changed the time, but we were still charged $10/ person more for seating that was not normally charged for. The food for the show was amazing. We were extremely disappointed with the buffet. Not a great selection and only one cook doing omelets at each station. I guess we have been spoiled by our wonderful experiences on Royal Caribbean. We just returned from the Norwegian Escape NY to Bahamas (Feb 17-24, 2019) We had a balcony min suite room 10238. There were 2 Adults and 1 child. We traveled during school vacation week there were approximately 5000 people on the ship 1500 where children. Lets start with the boarding process. We did all our cruise documents BEFORE we left home and were given an arrival window of 12-12:30 we showed up at the Manhattan cruise terminal we drove down from MA the night before and stayed at a near by hotel. The terminal itself is DIRTY 2 of the 3 elevators were broken. the only working elevator was very slow. When we made it inside the terminal EVERY passenger seemed to be inline or sitting around waiting to board the boat. We waited in line for over 45 minutes and it did not move. So much for the 12-12:30 window we were told that was the same time frame everyone else was given. it took us only 5 minutes to get through the check in process once we got to the front of the line. Another family was 6 groups ahead of us it took them almost 30 minutes to get everyone checked in. once through check in we had to wait for our boarding groups to be called to board the ship. That was not bad only like 15 minutes. once on the ship we went to get lunch. WELL THAT WAS A PROCESS. they buffett area was NOT big enough to accommodate all the people on the ship. It was like hunger games trying to find a place to sit. People were sitting OUT SIDE (it was 40 degrees in NY) because they couldn't find anywhere to sit. The announcement was made that rooms could now be accessed. So we got to our room. The room was clean and wonderful. I packed items to make out room stay neat and organized while we cruise. (magnetic hooks for the walls and hanging cases for things in the bathrooms as well as suction cup toothbrush holders. There are only 3 outlets in the rooms and they are all in the bedroom area. Glad i had an extension cord packed so i could plug my CPAP machine in as well as my phone next to the bed which i used as an alarm clock and a sound machine. Our Room stewart was named ARMANDO and i swear this man didn't get to sleep. He was always busy cleaning rooms and making beds for what seemed like all the rooms on our side of the ship. NCL claims to be a freestyle crusie company no locked in dining times ect. well let me tell you that is a crock. the 4 main dining rooms which are included in your vacation were the only thing you didn't need reservations for. The shows??? We have no idea because they needed to have reservations for them and by the time we figured that out all the shows for the entire cruise were booked. Taste and Savor are 2 of the 4 places included for meals. The food is the same at both places. The service is the same at both places.I fell like the servers were over worked as they always had on smiles but you could tell they were exhausted. Some nights the service was FABULOUS other it was lacking and SLOW!!! The Manhattan room is another restaurant which is included. The menu here is the same as Taste and Savor. The Service again was hit or miss. The last place included was O'Sheehans which is an Irish pub style place. We had THE WORST experience here. Our server came over took our drink and food orders then disappeared. 45 minutes later and no drinks, no food, NO ONE came to check on us. i had to go to the greeter and basically make a scene before we got any service. Later we found out our server was at the end of his shift and just left without telling anyone he had started a table of orders. We filled out a comment card and the next day had an invitation to sit at Emelia's section of the Manhattan room she was the assistant matre D for O'Sheehans and part of the buffet and The Manhattan room. The other restaurants on the ship were all EXTRA charge. and if you wanted to eat at one of them you had best make reservations the second you got on board or you were out of luck. I will say that all the food we ate on the boat was very good. Next topic the "kids clubs' what a joke. The kids clubs only hold 120 children! There were 1500 on the boat. You would think the cruise line would see this and make adjustments to the activities schedules to give the other kids things to do. NOPE. So all week kids would be riding the elevators and using them like a toy. Pushing all the buttons and getting off. The POOLS? there are 2 yes 2 pools on this ship they are both small and 1 is for adults the other for children. There are several "hot tubs' on this ship maybe like 12 and 2 of them have working jets. the other had no jets or bubbles. They didn't have enough lounge chairs to accommodate guests so people were fighting over them. The activities on board were either extra cost or boring. We have been on several other cruises as a family and have never been so board as we were on this ship. Now on to the topic of beverage service. It would take 15-30 minutes to get a drink at ANY of the bars. they either had a long line or only 1 person working the bar. The shopping on this boat was a joke. They had a few shops not many and there were not many items in the shops. They had a "watch" store that said 75% OFF. I found the same watch on the ship via the manufactures site for $100 LESS than the supposed 75% off price. NCL offers an app so you can message each other while on the ship which is AWESOME especially if you are traveling with children or another family. Well guess what the app costs $10 per person for the messaging service. I found that yes NCL offers "free items" but they charge for more than you get for the price and the free things. I feel they nickle and dime you once you are on the ship. The only way you can get more is if you pick a haven room they get their own area for dinning and lounging and swimming. Those rooms are crazy expensive. We will NOT be cruising with NCL in the future based on this experience. Read Less

Let me start off by saying that I didn't want to compare these two ships as every cruise line is different in their own ways, but the Norwegian Escape left my wife and I with a bad taste in our mouths after having a wonderful time on Royal Caribbeans Anthem the year prior. The two boats are easily comparable as both were launched in 2015 and hold roughly the same amount of passengers, but the differences between the two are vast. I'll start from the beginning. My wife and I were on Royal Caribbeans Anthem in February of 2018 and we absolutely loved the ship. The experience itself seemed to check every box for what a cruise should be. When deciding on what cruise line to choose from, we were told you couldn't go wrong with Royal Caribbean or Norwegian. Last February we choose the Anthem, and for our second cruise February 2019, which would be for our honeymoon we choose the Escape. Embarkation Starting with the embarkation at pier 88 in NYC, we arrived around 930am which was our scheduled time. Little did we know, we wouldn't be boarding the ship until at least 3 hours later as Norwegian staff crammed as many people into the pier as possible. People were laying on the floor and sitting where they could making the place an absolute mess. Not the greatest first impression to say the least. When we boarded the Anthem the year prior, we were stepping foot onto the ship in about 30 minutes from their pier in Bayonne NJ. In this aspect Royal Caribbean has mastered the embarkation process. Buffet (Garden Cafe) Eventually we boarded the ship and decided to grab something to eat at the buffet which is called the Garden Cafe. We found it strange and alarming that Norwegian staff wasn't telling guests to wash their hands before before entering the buffet as this is a quick way germs and viruses are spread. Mind you about two cruises prior, the escape had a norovirus outbreak which caused many staff and guests to become sick. What is this cruise line thinking? On the anthem the staff ropes off the area to walk straight into the buffet, forcing guests to wash their hands in a line of sinks. So now we enter the buffet and its an another absolute mess. Walking around you were constantly being bumped and elbowed by guests while trying to keep your plate in your hands. I understand that plenty of guests had just boarded the ship and all wanted to eat just like we did, but this was a daily occurrence at the buffet no matter what time you went. The layout just wasn't made to hold a medium to large amount of people at the same time. The food quality was also sub par, with the best choices being hamburgers and hot dogs on most days. On Royals Anthem we visited the buffet quite often as there was plenty of food to choose from, and the layout never made you feel crowded or overwhelmed. Spa Balcony Stateroom After leaving the buffet it was announced that our room was ready so we started to head to our cabin. While walking down the hallway we noticed some other rooms had been decorated for special occasions with balloons and signs for birthdays and such. Naturally we were excited to see what Norwegian had set up in our room for our honeymoon. To our amazement when we opened our door there was no sign that my wife and I were celebrating our special occasion at all. What we found was a piece of paper that stated we would receive a cake at dinner to celebrate our special occasion. We didn't ask for anything to be set up in our room, but it's the little things that cruise lines do to go out of their way that can be truly special and show how above and beyond they would go for their guests. In this moment Norwegian had dropped the ball again. On the bright side our stateroom attendant was very polite and courteous. Ship Design/Layout Now for the layout of the ship, as many other reviewers have mentioned it's very cookie cutter and not aesthetically pleasing. The sight lines are awful, blocked by zig-zagging decks and walls. There's not much about the ship that wowed us. It's like Norwegian tried to cram as many restaurants into the ship as possible which unfortunately comes at the cost of passenger comfortability. Everywhere you went there was a crowd of people. The only way I can explain it is, no matter where you looked it seemed as if a show just let out and people didn't know where to go. The design of the ship forces crowds of people to be bottle necked into small areas and walkways. While on the Anthem the ship was at full capacity, but you would rarely feel that way as the layout and design of the ship helps control the flow of guests to not make it feel crowded. On the escape you absolutely knew that the ship was at its fullest capacity as you struggled to fight the crowds in every area. Numerous guests we had talked to stated that this was their first cruise and would probably be their last due to this and we had to assure them that there are other ships and cruise lines out there that don't feel the way the escape feels. Other guests even apologized to us that we were celebrating our honeymoon on the ship as they felt just as overwhelmed and uncomfortable as we did. Also be aware there is 1 laughably tiny outdoor pool on this ship that can fit roughly 30 of the 4000 people aboard. We found found it quite strange considering this is a cold weather ship sailing from New York in February. There are 0 indoor pools, just a large heated indoor spa jacuzzi which is located in the Thermal Spa. Compare this to the Anthems 2 large indoor pools and 1 large outdoor pool. Drink package After purchasing the highest drink package you would assume that every drink you order will be free. Well not on Norwegian where bottled Norwegian water will be an upcharge of $3 or more. Also you better get used to the sub-par potted coffee at the buffet because if you want any espresso drink on the ship you'll be paying extra for it. Norwegian cruise lines really couldn't include water and espresso in the drink package? On the Anthem bottled water is of course free with the drink package, along with espresso drinks and the like. In fact the Anthem actually has a Starbucks on its main floor that is 100% free with its drink package. Also if you'd like to play pool, darts, bowling, better swipe that room key because its all an upcharge to your account. Norwegian trying to nickel and dime you were common words heard around the ship from other guests. Speaking of room keys, Norwegian requires you to carry it around at all times in order to swipe for drinks/food or to enter/exit the ship and stateroom. Royal Caribbean gives you a rubber bracelet that replaces you room key so no need to keep anything in your pockets as this bracelet will do all the above. Casino The only gripe I had with the casino is that its spread out across a bunch of rooms which makes it lose that tight table gambling vibe. Rarely would you hear people cheering at the roulette or craps tables. Instead of the casino being its own entity, slot machines are spread across hallways making it look like Norwegian wanted this to be a cash grab for anyone who walked by. Shows/Musical Performances While on the ship we attended 3 shows at the theater. The Choir of Man, After Midnight, and a card magicians act. The Choir of Man and After Midnight were both okay at best, nothing to really get excited about as the shows drag along till you'e wondering when it'll end. Both shows lacked a storyline and were more cabaret style song performances. The theater itself was not visually pleasing and looked like a run of the mill movie theater. Being a musician for 20 plus years, I will say that the live band for After Midnight was excellent. The card magician was very entertaining as he keep you interested and laughing throughout his performance. Apart from the theater, every single night there were live performances in almost every bar on the ship. Now normally I wouldn't complain about this, but most of these musicians lacked talent to the point they were laughable to watch. It's like Norwegian didn't care about talent and just wanted every room to be filled with live noise. Aside from that, other reviews mentioned a common problem which is that the volume of these performers was headache inducing making you not able to tolerate being in the same area or room for too long of a time. Spa To my wife and I, the only saving grace for this ship was the thermal spa. The thermal spa, which you need to purchase a spa package or day pass for, is absolutely essential to get away from this crowded ship. We spent most of our time in this area as this was the only place where we could relax and not feel like choosing the Escape was a terrible decision. The rooms in the Thermal Spa include a salt room, sauna, solarium, steam room, and snow room. All of these roooms are relaxing in their own way. The Thermal Spa has comfortable lounge chairs/heated stone seats with an amazing view out the front of the ship. Again, this was the only place in the ship to actually get away from the rest of the ship. Sit down dining/Up charge restaurants While the buffet food on the Anthem was much better than the Escape, The Escapes sit down food was better than the Anthems. The complimentary sit down dining in the Manhattan room on the Escape offered delicious meals and the staff at all these restaurants were excellent. The food at the up charge restaurants on the Escape was also fantastic. We ate at Cagneys, Moderno, and Teppanyaki. I can't attest to the up charge restaurants on the Anthem as we didn't visit any. Ports As other reviews from different departures have mentioned, it's become a common event that the Escape frequently skips over stopping at their private island, The Great Stirrup Cay. This comes as a great disappointment as this should be one of the most relaxing stops on the trip. Without this stop, guests lose a beach day and are stuck on a crowded boat gazing out at the water they wish they could be swimming in. We were notified that we would not be stopping at this island around 930am, yet we could not get to another port until 7pm, losing an entire beach day. Remember leaving out of New York, this stop is imperative to enjoying a beach vacation in February. Losing this stop effectively hurts the enjoyment of this vacation as it's only 1 of 2 tropical ports you stop at. Reading other reviews it seems there's some kind of connection between the Escape almost NEVER stopping a this location. On the other hand, Royal Caribbean is actually currently building a dock at their private island (Coco Cay) to prevent the tendering process and therefore any disappointment of not being able to stop there. Cleanliness Referring back to how Norwegian staff allowed guests into the buffet without washing their hands, I ended up catching some sort of cold/sinus infection on the the 3rd day of the cruise. Whether or not this is related to such, by the end of the cruise you heard plenty of coughing and hacking from other guests. While walking around the ship glasses and plates on the floor and in the corners was a common sight. As a previous reviewer mentioned, on royals ships the staff would all chip together to get a task done. Plenty of times I watched as Norwegian staff would carelessly walk by a mess that needed to be cleaned up. Service of staff Whats even more frustrating than a crowded ship is staff that can't even answer the simplest of questions. Multiple times we asked a crew member a question only to be diverted to another crew member who also didn't have an answer. Sometimes the staff members actually didn't seem to have enough language in order to be able to help and communicate with us. The day before disembarkation, my wife and I approached a staff member standing next to the luggage tags and asked a simple question about which tag to use. The staff member simply looked at us in confusion and proceeded to point at the guest services line which was 20 people long. Every time we called guest services from out stateroom, we were on hold for 10 minutes with not one single person answering the phone. On the Anthem, Royal Caribbeans staff would rarely not be able to answer a question, and if they couldn't they would go out of their way to find you an answer. There were plenty of times on the Anthem that you would see multiple staff members standing around with a sign in their hand saying, "How can I help you?" Overall our experience with Norwegian cruise lines was abysmal. My wife and I absolutely did not feel as we were on vacation, let alone our honeymoon. This is not the way we wanted to spend such a special occasion surrounded by crowds, mess, noise, and confusion. To top it all an incapable, inexperienced crew that doesn't seem to care about making your trip special and unforgettable. It is unknown if we will sail Norwegian cruise lines in the future, but I can guarantee you we will not step foot on the disaster you call a ship, the Escape. If this was our first cruise, we certainly would never sail on a cruise ship again. Fortunately for us, we have experienced Royal Caribbeans Anthem, and know the wonderful experience quality cruising can bring. Read Less

My elderly parents convinced the family to take a one last holiday together as they are convinced this will be their last. They had a good history with Norwegian so it was the 'go to' company. We booked 7 passages looking forward to seeing exotic places like Jamaica, Cayman Islands and Cozumel. We arrived in Port Canaveral several days in advance and the day before the cruise was supposed to leave, we got a message from NCL informing us our 7 day cruise was now a 5 day cruise going to Bahamas and their private Island. It was also boarding on Sunday as opposed to Saturday They were very sorry and were allowing us to cancel or take 50% off the cost of the cruise. So picture this..... 4000 cruise passengers scrabbling at the last minute to find accommodations and in many cases a rental car. Oh yeah, the Daytona 500 was on that weekend as well. Bedlam. We decided that we had spent considerable time and effort to get their so we would make the best of it. Should have cancelled. I have good and bad things to say about the ship itself: The good: Rooms were very well laid out. The waiters and cleaning staff were fast, efficient and friendly. The chicken fingers were excellent Liked the ice cream machines The Circ show was very entertaining although the Ariel portion was cancelled The bad: Freestyle cruising should be called 'Free for All cruising'. If you want shows or premium dining, better book the second you get on the ship. We spent more time organizing and getting organized than doing anything. The food was just OK. The buffet got boring after about day 3. Lots or technical difficulties, pools not full, toilets backing up, Spice H2O big screen missing a bunch of pixels. These sound minor but my perception is NCL has cut back on their ship maintenance which could have been a contributing factor to the previous cruises engine failure. There's more but I have probably said enough. All in a very disappointing experience, and to boot, the whole family is still getting over the nasty cold we caught on the cruise. A poor last trip for Mom and Dad. Read Less

Drinks all had Florida tax as in port. Notified Friday night of change and impossible to get through to Norwegian number. Guest Services assured us the cruise line would reverse $250 for hotel and expense. After cruise NCL said guest services gave incorrect information, NCL should stand behind statements made by Norwegian guest services. Pools crowded and pool bar served those most obnoxious first and polite persons waited forever. Only ate in dining room once as we both had illness after, Never ate at buffet. Comedy shows and nightly entertainment was very good. Walking track was a joke . Follow up after cruise that was less than satisfactory was non-existent. Read Less

I am so disappointed in my first Norwegian cruise experience. My husband and I (and 2 other couples) set sail out of Miami on the Norwegian Jade (feb 11, 2019) We have cruised Royal Caribbean multiple times and done one carnival cruise. I will never do a Norwegian Cruise again. Not even if I won it! The main issue with this cruise was customer service. No one even attempted to fake a smile except the check in staff at the port BEFORE getting onto the boat, the sweet hand washing lady out front of the garden café (wakey wakey eggs and bakey, washy washy) lol, and the spa staff. That's it! literally no one else. I'll address this more as I go on. Getting onto the boat was the smoothest process. quick. easy. and like I said before the staff was friendly at this point. But as soon as we got on board everything went wrong. I thought the ship was nice and cabin size was average. at around 6pm we had most of our luggage and finished unpacking but by 7:00 we were still missing a suitcase and we wanted to get dressed and go to dinner but didn't have our things. I flagged down a random attendant who told us all the luggage was handed out and that I probably had something I shouldn't have had in my bag. excuse me? so I went to the front desk and they said the same thing! accused me of putting something in my bag and took me to the unclaimed baggage area where my luggage still could not be found, so I was told that it was probably just delivered to another floor and we should just wait that someone would turn it in. after 3 trips to the desk it showed up at almost 9pm after I had already borrowed shower stuff from my friends. In the mean time, our room lights would not turn on. and when a staff member just happened to walk by she showed me that the switch had to be turned off on off on and punched just right to come on, lol. the safe didn't work at all and couldn't be fixed and no one came to even look at it for hours after we called. The stateroom attendant kept our room made up but I only saw her twice in passing. She didn't know our names or ask if we needed anything. I had to leave her notes repeatedly to ask her to replenish the water bottles. Our first stop was to Key West which was as expected (i've been 3 or 4 times). Next to Harvest Caye which is Norwegians private island. BE AWARE that it is NOT INCLUDED. so no free food, no free drinks. you had to pay for it all. the pool was nice but I didn't take a cruise to go to a pool on an island! the ocean didn't even look like the Caribbean. the beach looked very man made. almost like the shore of the river in my home town but clearer. absolutely not what I was expecting for this stop, but I'm going to take responsibility for that since I didn't research it much. I like surprises! good ones anyway. last stop was Costa Maya. we took a cab to Yaya beach club (7 min drive) where we snorkeled with a business called Dr. Dive. John was our snorkel guide and he was amazing. we felt safe in that area. we saw hundreds of colorful fish and star fish and coral and sponges and eels, and sea turtles!. This day was incredibly fun and beautiful and everything you could want for a relaxing day at the beach. after we got back on the boat from the Costa Maya we were greeted by the most god awful smell in our stateroom. a mixture of sewage and vomit that turned out to be coming from the air vent. We couldn't stand to be in the room and sat out in the hallway for over an hour with 6 of our stateroom neighbors who also couldn't stand the smell, all while I thought it was being investigated. A staff member eventually came by and sprayed air freshener and said that hopefully in would get better when the ship started moving again. I cannot make this up. around 8pm there was a follow-up CALL asking if the smell was still there, which thankfully it was not and had been replaced by a much more tolerable smoky/burning smell. there was a knock at the door at 9pm with a 15 dollar bottle of red wine that i don't drink. it was handed to my husband and she just shut the door behind her. No, I'm sorry this happened to you? no, oh is wine ok? is there anything else I can do for you instead? . I guess it still counts as effort though right? now, on to the pool deck.....it was nice. 2 average sized pools that weren't too crowded. one which was adult only, but Just be aware that they do not have enough lounge chairs around the pool or top deck for half the people on the cruise and some days we had to stand around till someone left. The biggest disappointment here was the bar staff. No one came around to the upper deck to ask if you wanted a drink EVER! people formed a line to the bar! a line!! and on the 2 at sea days we had to wait 20 minutes in line to order a drink because there were only 2 bartenders up there both days. My friends and I are in our 30's and although I wouldn't describe us as the young crowd Id say we were amongst the youngest on the ship. the music around the pool definitely reflected that and there were only a handful of times where I wanted to get up and dance..this goes for the night club DJ CeeJay as well. if your idea of dancing includes a Taylor swift remix then by all means sign right up for this cruise. Maybe the boat was understaffed? because like I mentioned earlier no bar staff came to the upper pool deck ever and rarely to the trivia or at the shows. and when they did they did not ask you if you needed anything. they just didn't make eye contact and walked around with napkins and empty trays until you flagged them down and asked them. it felt like I was burdening them the whole time! also be aware the bars at the trivia areas don't open till 4! so you would have to order your drink somewhere else and carry it across the boat. when you pay for the unlimited drink package and cant actually use it its very frustrating. lastly, the food. to quote one of my friends, "man I would kill for some McDonalds and a dr pepper right now." (there's only Pepsi products) The buffet at the Garden Cafe (we ate here for breakfast and lunch) was really good. for dinner we ate mostly at the Grand Pacific and Alizar (they share a menu) and although the appetizers and soups were delicious the main courses fell short. comparable to lean cuisine. I heard the specialty restaurants were really good so I would recommend doing those! I did eat sushi one night and it was the best sushi I've ever had! but other than that I couldn't believe the taste. no one greeted us. every night it was "are you ready to order" and this was not by the same server. each one was the same. they never smiled. you had to ask for a bartender to bring you a drink, no one just automatically asked. when you didn't eat something they just removed it and didn't ask if you wanted something else. getting off the boat was a little bit of a hassle but hardly worth mentioning. the walk off time of 7:30 turned into about 8:30 since apparently everyone else also had this in mind and the line to get off was wrapped all the way around the boat. Regardless of all this, if anyone had of just said I'm so sorry, what can we do to help?, do you need a drink? is there anything we can do to make your stay more comfortable? I see you didn't eat your salad, can I get you something else? hows your cruise going? how's your day? I'm here to help or anything like that it would have been so much more tolerable. heck I think if people had of just smiled at me I would have let it all go!!! Read Less

I was on the Epic Fail cruise of 2019. This cruise was best with problems that I mostly, luckily, avoided. I got to the terminal early and was checked in and seated in about 20 minutes total, very efficient. I was also among the first hundred regular people on the ship. Here is where the problems started. There was a "computer glitch" which inconvenienced me in that the servers were slower because they had to write everything down. What I didn't know was that this glitch was keeping people from boarding the ship. Huge crowds waiting in the terminal for about two hours, dodged that bullet. A little about me, I am 50 year old male traveling solo with an group of disc golfers. I have taken about twenty cruises now, mostly on NCL. I love cruising and try to cruise twice a year. I ate in the specialty restaurants almost the whole week, I never went to the buffet. As a solo I tested the freestyle concept and was pleased with the results. I purposely didn't make reservations and was still seated in Moderno inside ten minutes! The food as always was fantastic, and I choose new entrees from what I usually do to expand my pallet and was very pleased. Back to the ship, so day two we lost motor power and sat in the ocean for a couple hours. Then we slowly limped into port and crashed into the pier. My friends and I made lemonade out of the situation and went to a beach resort had beers and played putting games. Even before we left port I knew we were not making the private island, distance divided by speed means nope, so when they announced we were getting in to PC late I was laughing. Finally there was the fiasco with the arrival time. Originally told it was going to be eightish everyone scrambled to change flight plans, the next day we find out it is more like three-ish when we get in and everyone scrambles again. I drove so I didn't have to deal with that, but the level of negativity on the ship rose to astounding heights. There is a reason the ship docks at 5am, having people camped out in all the public areas waiting to get off and getting angrier all the time is probably one of the bigger reasons. I saw a woman forcing people to look at her kittens and puppies to keep them from getting angrier. Overall my worst cruise hands down, communication from the bridge was inexact and only occasional. I never saw the Cruise Director once after the first mechanical. The comedians were eating it up and hilarious but it really wasn't that funny. Finally Epic is not the ship to be stuck on, with its small outside areas and persistent smoke smell inside I was more than ready to get off the ship and that has never happened before. Read Less

This was our first cruise with NCL and chose this cruise due to the 11 ports included in this daylight Panama Canal transit. The ports were all great and enjoyable. The spacing of sea days and ports was excellent. 3 days of ports, 1 sea day, 3 days of ports, 1 sea day, etc. Embarkation was smooth, with the normal delays. Disembarkation was a disaster, stood in line for more than 90 minutes after our purple 2 code was called. Then received extremely rude and poor transfer service from the NCL contracted bus line. Bus driver intentionally dropped off half the passengers at the wrong terminal. Ship: In good shape, and common areas were clean and constantly cleaned Cabin: 8590. this is a sideways cabin, partially obstructed view and the location was convenient and quiet. Dining: Food in the main dining rooms and buffet was consistently stale and Luke warm. We only got a decent meal if it was an omelet prepared in front of us or something that was intended to be cold like a salad. The fountain drinks were watered down. Entertainment: Best I've seen after 15 cruises. If you cruise with NCL and SWING is the show do NOT miss it. Broadway quality. Great show band, with 3 piece brass section Read Less

I took this cruise to relax and be taken care of for a few days. It's been a very stressful 3 years since I had been able to cruise due to family matters. I've been on several lines over the years (Carnival, Costa, HAL and Princess). I found a last-minute deal on Epic. I booked it at 1pm the day before it sailed, knowing nothing about NCL (except I always thought their ships were ugly when I saw them in port). So I made a leap of faith and at 5am the next morning super shuttle picked me up for my flight to Orlando. Uneventful flight, got a transfers to the ship from Contrans Shuttle (I recommend them). Arrived at Port Canaveral about 12:30pm. It was a total mob scene. If you are familiar with the terminal, the line wound around outside the terminal - back and forth THREE times from the luggage drop-off clear to the other end of the terminal building. Apparently it was a surprise EPIC was there. Once I got inside I noticed two of the 4 metal detectors were not in use and eight of the 38 check in stations were not staffed. Why? Just my opinion but when you have 4000+ people boarding it should be all-hands-on-deck. Time to board the ship: Over two hours. My cabin was ready, so I went there. It was filthy dirty. Smears on the headboard, cabinets, etc. Too much leftover DNA from the previous guest. I even had the executive housekeeper come to the cabin. When I asked for some cleaning products I was told no. All the food on-board was fine to good. The only thing that stands out in my memory is the perfectly ripe fruit. I dined in the MDR and buffet (no specialty). The only thing I took one bit of and set aside was the pizza. I'm a picky eater and "foodie" but I adjust my expectations accordingly. Service was good to very good (except for the host in the MDR, noted below). The rest of my review, will be a simple cut-and-paste from the survey with names redacted. I'm done with NCL, so that's all I want to do. If someone is placed in a disabled cabin, there needs to be printed instructions for the door. Nobody knew how it worked, initially. My cabin (12270)was dirty; fingerprints, smears on the headboard and cabinets, mystery goo on the door handles. I asked a manager named S***** for cleaning product so I could clean the cabin to my standards. He said "no". Then he told me I could not have a piece of paper to make reminder note for the door. The first night there were no coffee packets for the coffee maker. Housekeeping did not deliver any when I called. The next morning about 4am I called 00 to see where my coffee packets were. I was told my only options were to pay room service $7.95 or go get the coffee myself. Wrong answer. FYI - the right answer would have been "we'll send some right up, no charge". Then there's S***** in the Manhattan room who would not give me a pager when there was a wait. Telling customers "NO" seems to be a theme on NCL. Now for the good. Marco, cabin steward, did an excellent job. Wouter, guest services, was very helpful. Valeria, Locksley and all the staff in the Manhattan and Taste dining rooms did a great job. This was my first - and last cruise on NCL. Read Less

It was a complimentary cruise from Casinos at Sea. This was the date we were able to travel. Was not happy about waiting on line for dinners. Did not like making arrangements for shows. Was not happy about the disorganization of the ship, though I realize the cruise prior to us had Gastroenteritis and it needed to be disinfected. Pass cruises with Norwegian and other past cruise ships we found this one very disorganized which may had to do with the illness on the ship. The handling of embarkation was handled very unorganized and none of the crew handed out any bottles of water or anything to snack on while we waited more than four hours in the terminal. Food was excellent. Disembarkation went well. Shore excursions were good. Did not do much of the Entertainment as you had to reserve spots. We did not like the layout of the Escape. Very noisy in the Atrium which was hard to hear each other in O'Sheehan's and the bars. We were on the Norwegian Jade before and after its restoration and enjoyed it each time. The casino was not laid out very well. It was super smoky. You could even smell it in the non smoking section. Not enough poker machines in the non smoking section. Yes we would go on Norwegian again, but would look at the ships lay out more closely. Not enough closet space in the room. Found the room smaller than I thought it would be considering the size of the Escape. Bathroom was a good size. Like the size of the shower. The faucet in the sink should have been further out instead of so close to the sink. Read Less

All you hear from 6am til after midnight is chairs sliding a cross the floor. The food was very disappointing compared to other NCL ships we have been on, The specialty restaurants are the best. Checking in an leaving the Ship was the best we’ve seen. Entertainment was ok nothing to write about. Hot tubes were always crowded. Buffet food was the same thing EVERYDAY No seafood night like other NCL lines we’ve been on. Also couldn’t hear the loud speakers from our room. The staff was definitely friendly an helpful. It would have been nice to have longer days at the ports. Leaving one island at 1:30 was pushing it if you had an Excursion. Wanted to see S America, a Gold Member and travel with 4 other couples 5th cruise! NCL this was the worst cruise, our toilet would not flush on demand, button pushed nothing ... middle of night it flushed reported numerous times! Restroom stall doors held on with electrical wire ties(casino men's room). Mens room at The Windjammer had a hole in the wall covered by cardboard and duct tape. Every other NCL cruise we have been on while in port they cleaned the windows not on the Sun! Water spots on most of our pictures. The windows were either dirty or there were numerous window fogged from loss of vacuum! We made reservations for ten in different resteraunts and many times they sitted us at different tables when there were large settings available and were not used while we were there! Shame on NCL! We are looking to cruise Australia and New Zealand later this year and we( all 5 couples) are not sure we will chose NCL this time! One bright spot was Freddie the Bartender at the Champayne Bar! Star Trek Cruise III I've been on Noreweign Cruises before and I was very happy camper only to be very disappointed and very upset being on the Jade Noreweign.. I don't know where the so called "millions of dollars spent on upgrade renovations" were done on this ship because it looked old and not upgraded! We were on a specialty cruise for the Star Trek III for some mad fun.. We had a Balcony stateroom with NO A/C. OMG it felt like an oven.. I called several times but no avail .. The engineer tech claimed he reset the the A/C. by the fourth call and me screaming that my husband spent his hard earned money of 6 thousand dollars for my comfort on this suite and The fact I am disable and in this heat was unacceptable.. Eventually we got a new suite that A/C was OK. When settled into our new suite. On our late return back to the suite the mattress feltvlike a box spring!! It was hard and uncomfortable.. I felt springs and dips on the bed making it very uncomfortable for me. 10 months ago I had a 12 hour back surgery my entire back has been replaced with Titanium of 2 rods and 18 screws. So a comfortable bed was a must for me.. When my husband booked the reservations he advised them of my situation and they stated that I would be taken care of. Nothing was done.. Thank God for our room porter, Ian that cleans and maintains our room. He immediately got me a thick foam mattress and placed it on top of the springy mattress.. He also got me lots of down pillows. He literally save me cuz my first night was miserable.. By the 4th day of a 6th day cruise this Room's A/C was shot. I was literally done.. I was mostly out of the room and left the sliding glass doors open to cool our room up.. On the last night, we received a message from Guest Services asking if our room was comfortable.. I just never responded because I didn't wabt to show my true discontent with my experience with Noreweign.. The Noreweign staff were very nice.. The free food was not so good.. thank God my hubby got a Dinner package and their food were amazing.. The Star Trek experience was amazing.. Thank God next year Star Trek IV cruise is with Royal Carribean.. I will never take another NCL cruise.. So disappointed when my previous experiences were awesome.. Read Less

This was a 9 day cruise, there was no good entertainment, which made the trip extremely boring, the music on the pool wouldn't start till 11am and it was mostly instrumental no good music at all, the bartenders were very rude, there was 1 bartender name Edward he was the only friendly one in the entire ship, we had the beverage package but they had a restriction on many drinks, the restaurant services were so slow we waited on appetizer for almost an hour, they really only include 3 restaurants all the other ones you have to pay extra and the 3 restaurants included serve the same food every night. I have used Norwegian a few times this is my 5th and I am so disappointed I wouldn't use them again is time to start looking at other cruise lines. The only good about this cruise was awesome weather and they were very clean as far as the room service and now they do time how long your towel is left alone on a chair which is good so it wasn't hard to find a spot most of the time. Let me start by saying I love to travel, especially to Caribbean islands. I particularly love vacations filled with nature, adventure and exploring new places. I've traveled quite a bit over the years, so I know that a big part of traveling is keeping things in stride and going with the flow. With this cruise vacation, however, my patience was tested even before getting on the ship. First the long line to drop off luggage, then the REALLY long line to go through security, then the line to check in, and finish that off with a line to get your picture taken and pretend you're having fun while still bundled in winter coats. Once on the boat my main complaints how smokey it is. The design of the ship is just terrible. They put the casino (where they allow smoking) in an open area around a 3-level atrium. And on these 3 levels are most things you'd want to enjoy on the ship--restaurants, comedy club, lounges, shopping, theatre, etc. The smoke is not contained at all, but wafts throughout these 3 floors. Complaint #2: The Garden Cafe. The very first morning of our cruise we went down to breakfast at 10:15 am (an unusually busy time, maybe?) and I just wanted to cry. The place was packed. The three of us waited a long time to get our food, but then walked around and around the place and could not find a place to sit. I was prepared to eat standing up, but then couldn't find any utensils to eat with (I later learned they're kept on the tables). People without any food were saving tables all over--a problem we also experienced with pool chairs, seating in the lounges, the theatre, you name it. This was one crowded ship. Another thing...I was thinking such a big cruise ship would have plenty of variety and I would be able to find enough things to eat. I normally eat a diet of mainly vegetables with a little meat. At breakfast there was not a vegetable to be found, unless you count the tablespoon of spinach in my omelet. It was pretty much a buffet of meat and sugar. On the positive side, the entertainment was really nice. "After Midnight" was absolutely awesome! Wow, what talent. I left wanting to see what else those performers might be able to do. "The Brat Pack" was OK. The staff talent show at the end was cute. The comedians were on board were great--Spencer James and Flip Shultz, as was Ben Nemzer, the magician/comedian. The Adele tribute artist (Chelsea something) was great. One suggestion for Norwegian: quit shining those strobe lights into the eyes of audience members! It happened at every show we saw in the theater. The overall vibe of the ship just wasn't for me. Maybe it was because this cruise spanned over New Year's, but there were so many drunk people everywhere. Surprising, since it seems it would be awfully expensive to get drunk on that ship! Also, I felt nickel-and-dimed. Extra $ for internet service, extra to use a Norwegian app that lets you text others on the ship while out at sea, extra for some of the entertainment and restaurants, $6 for a bottle of water from the bar, and so on. Many dinning options are extra cost. Food was no good and service was so bad. Based on the daily information showed O'Sheehans lunch open @11:30 my family went and the lady told us they need to clean up and won't open until @12:30 with rude attitude. After more than one hour waiting we finally got seats and the service was very slow. Entertainment was very poor. All entertainment activities closed at 10pm. They even lock-downed shuffleboard and ping pong table. They didn't offer much things to do on the cruise. There was some good thought. House keeping was good. They clean our cabin several times per day and always keep it clean. The two stars are for house keeping. Read Less

This cruise was a gift and I was grateful for the opportunity, but let me be frank with you in the following description. Little did we know the disappointment we’d meet at the very entrance with their prolonged entry wait. Services bragged about the boat docking early at 7am and said we should be boarding soon, that was around 3pm. We didn’t board till almost 7pm. There are numerous inconsistencies with information. It was difficult to be positive given the back to back frustrations. They did do their part to serve alcohol endlessly, which is honestly the only perk to riding this cruise line. The food was comparable to school rated lunches. There was hardly any quality. The dining services really tried to make up for what was lacking on the ship. They were great and did their best. The entertainment shows were subpar, which I guess good be ameliorated by alcohol consumption. I was tired of being asked condescendingly if I was of age to drinks, easy fix: mark it on the embarkation card that obviously took so long to make. Might as well put all the necessary information on there. The daily itinerary needs to be revamped as there was so much clutter and the most important information wasn’t highlighted nor clear. There were several areas with severely musty smells and the crew struggled to relieve areas of the stench. The towels and bed sheets were stained with questionable substances and made its cleanliness questionable. The worst part of it all was my inability to rest because of their BED BUG INFESTION on level 8 (and possibly beyond). 3 sets of cabins from our group were later confirmed to have traces of bed bugs. That NEEDS to be a priority to resolve. A lot of passerby crew members were smartasses and that was an unnecessary amount of sass I witnessed repeatedly directed at many people on the ship. The crew really tried to make a pleasant vacation, but there were too many areas of disenchantment that they couldn’t make up for it. Hence the draw to ride the cruise because of INCLUDED alcohol. It’s not freee because you pay the price with all of these discomforts. Their 2013 remodeling should’ve been more drastic because it didn’t do it much justice in this modern day era of cruising. Also with their obsession with spraying alcohol or hand sanitizer did not cover up the fact that several of the soap dispensers weren’t working in the public restrooms. To conclude I would not recommend this cruise for families especially with minors seeing all the inappropriate behavior of everyone taking advantage of the unlimited drinks which were poorly handled, given that half the time crew asked for the room key to swipe and the other half they gave up because it was too much work on top of the demand. Went on NCL Bliss for the excitement of a better ship with go-karts vs the NCL Epic and Escape. The Jersey Boys production was outstanding. The Havana show was good but not my type of show that I would want to pay for. The Observation Lounge/deck15 was the best part of the ship. What I was disappointed in were all the chairs and lounges in the Observation Lounge and Atrium. They were all very uncomfortable. People were laying on the fabric chaise lounges in the Observation Deck without towels underneath them. Questioned the sanitary conditions of those Observation Deck lounge chair fabrics after their use. The dining ( complimentary areas) was just ship food (some good some bad). Found the servers very good in the Manhattan Room. Had dinner one evening in Savour Restaurant and found the service to be poor. Did not eat in any specialty restaurants. The Meet and Greet with the ship personnel was excellent. Beds in stateroom felt uncomfortable as compared to the NCL Epic and NCL Escape. As to the cabin, never met the room Steward but the cabin got cleaned twice daily. The ports were nothing special, we primarily were on the NCL Bliss for the newness of the ship. There was an abundance of children on board and I would attribute that to free perk of 3rd and 4th passenger goes free. Although, we love children, we found many of them running out of control throughout the ship. Even saw them sliding down the rails on the stairways just outside the Manhattan Room. Very unappealing. We are Gold Latitude Members and usually purchase future cruise certificates but as a result of cruising on the NCL Bliss, we have decided to no longer sail with NCL. Read Less

Freestyle cruising is a joke on this ship to many rules and they tell you so. The food in all the free dining is really poor the oth.er half of dining was not cheap. Good luck if you cruise this ship just remember you get what you pay for. Read Less

We were looking forward to another cruise with NCL, since our experience on the Pearl was good. This was awful! *The embarkation was a fiasco, with the problem being more Port Canaveral's. It was a cold morning, and they had to stop allowing people up the escalator to the indoor waiting area. Fights were taking place, and security had to be called. Most were cold, hungry, tired and confused, since there was no communication from anyone. This became a constant theme throughout the cruise! But at no time did anyone from NCL apologize for it and take some responsibility. When you were finally on board it was as if nothing had happened. *Pools are a real joke!!! 3 of them, with one being in the quiet area. Very small, more of a stand-up pool. If any more than 4 people were in it, it became overcrowded. The main pool area was the only pool space with shade, but the stupid music was so loud you couldn't talk to each other. Ridiculous! Even after request to turn the music down, nothing! *Waiting for an elevator became a game. No matter which was it goes, climb on because you may never see another one! Too many scooters!!!!!! * To see any show, you had to wait in line for an hour, then seats were gone quickly. I have never had that experience on any other cruise. Venues are way too small for that size of a ship with that many passengers. *Front desk was somewhat rude. I asked a young lady where the library was (mapped showed it very close to their desk). The girl grabbed my map and sent me to the back of the ship. I came back and told her it should be near where we were. She simply repeated her orders. It was across the hall and behind a door! *Layout of this ship is terrible. Hard to maneuver around anywhere comfortably. *Talent on board, except for a few, was pretty bad. Howl at the Moon singers were not singers! * Onboard activities: Napkin folding! Just Dance! *Movies selected were unbelievable! Overboard, Adrift and Showdogs?! Really! Who picked this garbage? (Andre'?) One good day they showed "It's A Wonderful Life" and it was standing room only! *It was Christmas. Why not organize an evening of caroling, or show more holiday related movies? Other than decorations, it was never mentioned or celebrated. Very disappointing. *That leaves us with debarkation. We were herded onto the 6th floor, with no announcement from anyone, just rumors, to try and organize a line, which went from the front to the back of the ship. There was 1 person from staff I saw and she was yelling at someone who was trying to take the escalator to 5! Apparently, some big wigs from corporate were suppose to be there for our leaving, but never saw a single person!!!! No, wait...there were two lovely ladies waving goodbye and thanking us...Washy Washy Girls!!!! That was it. No thanks for spending your time, your money and your sanity with us. They could have cared less. We will never cruise NCL again! Read Less
