Chose for the cruise for destination and ports. Service in dining rooms left much to be desired. Hostesses were rude and made you feel as though you were an imposition and not a guest. Servers were polite but very slow. Had to wait 40 minutes for our brealfast to be served. We watched our food sitting for 15+ minutes, on several occasions, before being served. When it was served, food was always just lukewarm. Special requests were not honored. Often food ordered didn't arrive. I believe the prepaid gratuities lessened the service. In the past servers had to earn their tips. The specialty dining was very good. Food was excellent and service was excelllent. On deck barbeque was great! Room steward was great. Friendly and very attentive! Entertainment was enjoyable. Some of the recreational activities would have been nice to participate in but very expensive. The least expensive buy in for Bingo was $49.00. Overall it was an average cruise experience. Read Less

As a surprise for friends of ours (they had received the cruise as a Xmas gift) we booked the same cruise to Bermuda along with another couple. The surprise was successful and the 6 of us generally had a great time. Once we realized that it was school vacation week (the couple we were surprising were teachers) we bid for The Haven as the other couple joining us had stayed in The Haven previously and felt that it would give us a bit of piece and quiet when we wanted it. Bids were successful, however, piece and quiet did not come with the upgrade. The Haven was full of kids which filled all three hot tubs and the pool day and night (we never got to use either). Parents appeared to have disappeared for the entire cruise and between wet towels being thrown around the pool area and loud games of Marco Polo we couldn't even enjoy sitting on the upper deck (pool is open for 2 decks). Our attempt to use the adult only pool outside The Haven was not successful either since the adults only rule was not enforced. Other benefits of The Haven were great but unfortunately overshadowed by the constant running, pushing, shoving, etc. We are not against kids (have our own) but were put off by the lack of parental control and lack of staff enforcing the rules. Cabin steward provided superior service, entertainment options were top notch and specialty dining very good. If we try NCL again it will definitely be a different time of year. Read Less

This was our 13th cruise, first with NCL. We have cruised Carnival, Royal Caribbean and Princess. This was by far the most expensive cruise of them all. We have friends who swear by NCL so we thought we would give it a try. We thought embarkation went smoothly, we were in boarding group 1. I will say from a technology standpoint, they seem to be behind the times. We thought the ship was beautiful, but way over crowded. They had a lot of events in the main atrium which opens up to one deck above. It was soooo crowded they had folding chairs for the overflow...seemed very cheap and not comfortable at all. Also, it was so loud you couldn't hear yourself think. Another observation is the hallways are so narrow due to having single cabins in the middle of the ship. This made walking down the halls a struggle due to cleaning carts, not to mention if you came up on a large person or wheelchair, you literally are stuck. We purchased the specialty dining package for each night. We do this on each cruise and do so because of the attention to detail and awesome food. Goodness, what a disappointment. The worst was La Cucina. We were not even acknowledged when seated, didn't receive bread and had to basically beg for refills. We both ordered filet with one being medium and the other medium well. They were both burned to a crisp.....and we had to ask them for a knives. The time between servings was also 45 minutes. We tried Teppanyaki (best of all), Los Lobos (below average food and slow service), Cagneys (fair) service was slow. We ended up cancelling all reservations for the remainder of the week. We received better service in Margaritaville, Food Republic and MDR. If not for these last three....dining would have been a total fail. The service and food in these last three were awesome and saved the day. Shore excursions were a hit or miss. We did Dolphin Trainer for a Day in Puerto Vallarta and it was a hit. I give it a 10 out of a 10. We did city boat tour in Cabo. It was awful. By the time we arrived (herded like cattle) we were placed with another excursion group (obviously same thing but called something different) and there were no seats together left on the boat. Really? You are going to put us on a boat for a tour with no seating left? We got of the boat. This was a huge disappointment. The entertainment was mostly good. We went to the comedians, Havana, Beetles show and Jersey Boys. We just wish there were other options. We don't mind the Broadway type shows, but love how Royal Caribbean keeps it interesting. They will do one production show but then the other night you could get a circus soleil type show. We got bored. The ship was sold out....kids everywhere that were unsupervised. This got old real fast. Also, our neighbor kept smoking on their balcony. I tried calling guest services multiple times, forget it, they won't ever answer. If you go down to the service desk, get ready to stand 50 plus deep in line. Another observation both my husband and myself noticed, what is wrong with most of the crew? They seem so unhappy and do not go out of their way. Our service was not terrible, but nothing awesome like other cruises we have been on. We chose to have a good time despite the things that bothered us, but will likely never cruise NCL again. When you spend more money and get so much less.....its a no brainer. Read Less

Overall, this was one of the more average cruises I have been on. Everything was clean and well kept and I had a lot of fun. However, I think I would have had fun no matter what as I went with a group of 8 friends. Below I will list pros and cons: Pros: -Clean -Mostly friendly staff -Drinks were made well -Food was tasty and always cooked well -Entertainment was great -Freestyle dining option Cons: -Disembarkment was AWFUL!!! I could write an entirely negative review just for this process. It is the last thing I remember about my trip and makes me not want to go on this cruise line because of it. No one was being told where to go. We were told for "easy disembarkment" to go to the 6th floor with all of our luggage. It took 35 minutes just to get in an elevator. once we got to the 6th floor, we realized that was because the floor was so packed that people could not even exit the elevator. Everyone was in a cluster and had no idea which way to go. Families were getting separated because everyone was cramming in. The lines went from one end of the ship, to the other end, then back to the middle!! No one was around to explain where to go. If there had been an emergency, no one would have been able to get off the ship in a timely fashion. We arrived to the floor only 20 minutes after we were allowed to leave the ship and ended up waiting in line to leave for over an hour. -Great Stirrup Cay tender- was not told we had to schedule a tender boat to get from the ship to the Bahamas at our last stop until the day before, so our tender was not until 10:30. Because of the weather, we did not even get to the island until almost noon! I wish this information would have been made more clear at the beginning of the trip so we could have arrived at the island earlier. -BUSY! Ship was very busy all the time. People would arrive at 5am to the pool deck to save chairs and not come back to their chairs for hours. We arrived at the pool deck on at sea days no later than 7:30 am and we always had to sit at the outside dining chairs. We could hardly get into the pools because they were PACKED with children and the adult only area pool was tiny. - Only one dining issue at the noodle bar- we had 8 people and made a reservation for it. When we showed up, they put 6 together and 2 at their own table. We did a group trip to hang out as the group. They should have either informed us ahead of time about the seating, or sat us 4 and 4. It took 15 minutes of back and forth to even get the two sat right next to the larger table. All in all, decent trip and we made the best of all the cons. I will no longer be going on ships this large, however. Read Less

I was a bit taken back after booking this cruise to have the Norwegian agent say you may be disappointed after being in the Bliss...a true statement. From embarkation, seemed like one ball drop after another. Met some truly wonderful people and staff- and as well some people I wish stayed home. Cabin older (10058-balcony) but clean, smaller. Toilet was small and on five occasions I had to call guest service- wouldn’t flush... someone a few cabins away kept blocking it. Met people who had no a/c in an interior, sewage smell , in their cabins.... one night on my deck an electrical fire broke out causing many to be evacuated to deck 13... we didn’t hear the commotion but heard thru passengers horrible stuff and handling. The smoking section at top of ship was flat out horrible traversing twenty plus steps. Food was good, specialty restaurants good, entertainment and music was so so.... same people same songs...all in all I will sail on Norwegian again but not on the Dawn. Also, I think Norwegian needs to deal with some of the surly staff and the way they handle problems or complaints. You have a wonderful product but Passengers who pay have rights too—help those or reimburse those with uncorrectable problems..instead of babysitting people who are in a large suite who act inappropriately, worry about the folks who work hard and want a wonderful experience Read Less

The ship has a small pool area for the amount of people that it takes, on land days that’s not a big problem but on sea days there’s definitely no room to enjoy that area unless you go save a spot early in the morning, the biggest problem we had was with the onboard entertainment, it was 5 days of the same over and over, the one day we had a night of somewhat good music I requested from vip band to play something for everyone and was told yes no problem but they played through their 50 minute session non stop and didn’t please the crowd, once they finished and the DJ Dylan came to his booth I again went to him and requested some Latin music and was told that I should have asked the band that was doing the Latin party and when I told him I did but didn’t get the request fulfilled he simply brushed me and stated playing something else completely different, take in account that there were only about 20 of us there at that time and we all wanted what I was requesting, the hallway on the 9th floor where my stateroom was located was always smelling like weed and the room itself was a 3.5 at best. Most likely I will not be vacationing with Norwegian again. The one girl from Morocco that was on the entertainment was the nicest person ever on that whole ship. Read Less

Balcony very nice. outstanding concept of complimentary restaurants. Only nccl has. First time with norweign. 35 cruises with carnival and royal carribean. Bufett was the worst selection of food and tasteless. Had electrical fire at 2am on my deck had too evac to pool deck for 2 and a half hrs. Finally brought coffee at 4am. Ship was clean and cruise director did a very good job.got on board late due to post cruise guests late getting off. Carried own luggage and getting off was fast and efficient. Dislike Miami port due to long walk from parking. I desided I will not go out of the port of Miami again.port Canaveral, jax, and tampa only.smoking areas were very scarce. Deck 13 at open air bar only after refueling. And cigar room only. Casino smoking only when open. So only place to smoke when we got onboard for3hrs was cigar room with15 seats and you needed a knife to cut thru the smoke.rccl going to have to change that. Read Less

We chose this cruise because of the date and the home port. We cruised the last two times on the Oasis and wanted to go to other destinations. If you have read the reviews that others have posted they are spot on. The bathroom deal is weird, the pools and deck space are weird, and for a large vessel you will not find any large and roomy spaces on board. Not too many happy passengers were to be found when the conversations were about the ship. The food was good in the specialty restaurants and the dining room breakfast and dinners were also good. The bars were average overall and the venues tended to get a little overcrowded at times. Personally we will not book another Norwegian cruise and will stick to Royal Caribbean if possible on the Oasis class ships. They also have lots of passengers but you never feel cramped or crowded on their cruises. Read Less

Too many people on this ship. Everything felt crowded. Buffet food was just so so. Main dining room was good food though. Overall, no desire to cruise on this ship again. First ship we've been on that did not have a walking/jogging deck. Okay, they did if you wanted to go back and forth on one side with a view of the lifeboats. Discover Cayman tour is way over rated. Private island had little to offer unless you spent money. Best part of trip was Ocho Rios Blue hole and tubing (Karandas tour). Ship groups looked very crowded. Really got tired of them always pushing their 'cruise next' program. Will definitely look for 'Burn the Floor' show when they go on US tour. Read Less

We got a good price for a ocean view room but really booked this to see New Orleans. Harvest Caye was the biggest let down as everything except the pool and the beach costs extra and your drink package is no good off of the ship. For me paying $5.00 for a beer is a bit much. On Harvest Caye that beer was $8.60. We enjoyed the beach and then went back on the ship and had a drink. Cozumel is a good shopping port if you like to play the game. My wife purchased earings for her sister that started out at $580.00 . 2 beers 4 shots and walking out of the store once we paid $160.00. 1 ct. mystic topaz stone with a diamond crown. Did we pay to much? Dont know but it was fun. Costa Maya had us and two other ships at the same time. You couldnt even walk down the street withought bumping into someone and if you are wearing a full backpack do not go into a store. A lot of those shops will charge you for the items that you break. The cabin 5828 was small but always clean. Had a problem with the outlet in the bathroom and it was fixed right away. Sea days did not have enough things to do in the ship and not enough pools for number of people. Bars were always busy and all seemed to be short staffed. We had 3 speciality dining included and went to Moderno twice. Both times had problems getting something to eat. Second time there asked for the head waiter and finally got served. Cagneys was much better. The ship itself was great except for allowing the smoking at the casino. O sheenhans was right above and you could not get away from the smell. The one positive thing that impressed us was that in our last 19 cruises this one was the quickest on and off that we have ever had. We waited maybe 10 min for our number to be called to get on and we walked right off at the end of the cruise. Read Less

Embarkation: We arrived at the port about 10:30 a.m. Embarkation was delayed by at least an hour. Boarding did not start until noon. There were some people not on the ship until 2:30 or even a little later. We were never told the reason. Ship: We had cruised on the Epic 5 years prior. While still nice and clean you can see the wear and tear. The spa has lights out over the water, drapes are a little frayed, paint isn't as fresh, etc. Spa: The spa area is still a really nice oasis away from the crowds. However the heated lounges aren't really heated anymore. Most aren't even warm to the touch. We were told something about someone being burned is why they turned them down. However, they still should be warm. You can also see the wear in here. There are lights above the water area that need to be replaced. Food: Buffet was ok. Not great but not bad either. There was an Indian chickpea dish we had here that was one of the best things we had on the ship. Cagney's food was good. However it took us 2 1/2 hours to eat there. That was excessive. Taste was fine. Service was good. La Bistro was very good. Service was great. Food was really good. Probably the best steak on the ship. Moderno was better than I remember. Not as good as a Fogo De Chao but still pretty good. The salad bar was very impressive. Cirque food was really good. Manhattan room was fine. We were sat right up by the piano so it was hard to converse. We found that some of the best food we had was when we went away from the American type foods and tried "international" dishes. Entertainment: The Beatles band was great. If you like that type of music I highly recommend you see them. Priscilla was good. It's not my type of story line. However the costumes and production values were evident. Definitely make sure you are ok with the subject matter before you attend. NOT for kids. They make that very evident but I guess people still don't heed that warning. Cirque was good. We had a issues with a couple of the acts. If the performer(s) would take off one more article of clothing it would have been an act we could have seen at a strip club. If that is the type of acts they want in the show that's fine, however, they need to make that clear like they did with Priscilla. We had grandma and our 9 year old with us. Needless to say it was uncomfortable for a few minutes. Bars: The bars are slammed. Granted we were on a spring break cruise but this was after the college spring break. There were almost no college kids on our cruise. Mostly families with kids. Getting drinks on sea days and at the bars / clubs at night can be a 15 - 20 minute ordeal. I'm not sure what NCL is going to do about it. Some of the staff have started giving you 2 - 4 drinks at a time to try and keep you happy. However, most of the time, they will be warm/melted by the time you get to them. So you end up wasting them and getting another cold one. Kids area: Not sure why but our son really wasn't all that interested in going. It may have been due to the fact that the group was 7 - 9. And he's a month away from being 10. Or maybe since granny was on the cruise and he could hang out with her. On a previous cruise 2 years ago, he would be mad if we wouldn't take him. So we're not sure what happened there. Ports: Tortola We went to the Baths. This was awesome. It is a physically demanding excursion. But if you are up to it, well worth it. They are still rebuilding much of the area. The port area isn't all that built up like some we have been to. St. Thomas We only had 6 hours in port so we didn't do much. Went up to the top of the Mountain had a bushwacker (great!) and enjoyed the view. The do now have a small brewery in the shopping village. If you're into that sort of thing, I'd stop by and have a beer before you leave. Private Island We splurged and got a cabana. I felt it was worth it. One issue we had was the tendering to the island. We kept being told since a Cabana was considered and excursion, we'd get priority tendering. Well that didn't happen. We walked down the stairs when they started calling and then waited in line for 45 minutes before boarding a tender. My wife even went to the excursion desk to ask while I waited. They just said get in line. Overall I'd say it was a good cruise. I'd still sail on the Epic again if it all worked out. However, it's also not something I'd really try to seek out to do either. I will start out with the positive... getting onto the ship was a breeze. The last time we sailed from NY it was a complete disaster so I was super pleased with the level of professionalism and efficiency from all involved. Walking into the ship it was clean, inviting and exciting. As always we made a quick dash to get band for the “vibe” or on this ship “posh” Our very first cruise was I. This ship so I was excited to sail on it again. We were able to get to our stateroom very quickly and bags arrived in a fairly timely manner. Upon meeting our cabin steward he was one of the best we have ever had. Not the least bit overbearing and always did a phenomenal job. We had booked 2 special days for our parents for their anniversary and my mother’s birthday. He excited both with precision and detail which we so greatly appreciated. When we were settled my family and I all decided to check out the posh as we like to spend a good chunk of our time there. From the get go there was not a good vibe up there, pun intended. Normally the staff is always happy smiling and knew our names by the second day. This was not the case with posh. We get this “upgrade” so we always have a place to go for some quiet and that extra special service. The space was loud because of its close proximity to the main pool deck. We were brought water only once and never offered a cocktail or fruit plate. Each time We wanted a refill on water or a cocktail we would have to get up and go to the bar and order and retrieve it ourselves. While not the end of the world I found myself questioning why we paid extra for essentially nothing. On top of that the staff was not friendly there. I was highly disappointed and decided to spend my time elsewhere. Waiting at all bars was almost unbearable but I do understand that there are only so many bartenders and many guests in the ship. When checking into Le Bistro we were again met with an unfriendly face. The hostess did not seem accommodating or kind at all. When dining we decided to indulge in a bottle of wine not included in our package. The sommelier was one the most knowledgeable and kind we have ever met. He absolutely made our experience at Le Bistro much better. Without him the meal would have been sub par. The dealers in the casino were great fun. I found myself looking for the same ones day and night as they made the experience of losing money a little but better with their humor and small talk. I decided one night to use the salon for a blowout. I scheduled the appointment for 730 so I would have enough time to get ready before dinner. After waiting 20 minutes after checking in I approached the front desk to see what the deal was. I was met with “oh no one came for you yet?” After attempting to reschedule for the next day, the stylist irina appeared. From my understanding of my talk with both the front desk and Irina, I was double booked with another haircut she was performing before me. I once again did not feel like I was a priority in the least bit. She styled my hair and I was able to make dinner by the skin of my teeth. I must say that experience was extremely disappointing to me. Bar service in the casino was also extremely lack luster, however the male and female bartenders at the casino bar were beyond kind and committed my name and drink order to memory. Priscilla queen of the desert was a highlight of the cruise. The cast was PHENOMENAL. We were lucky enough to meet some of the cast and they were so kind. As regular cruiser we look forward to meeting other LGBT friends at the Friends Of Dorothy gathering. The name change of the meeting is not my favorite. The location for the meeting this cruise was not the most desired spot, we much preferred it when it was held at shakers. One of the most disappointing things to happen was at great stirrup cay. One of the main reasons I went on this cruise was to swim with the pigs. I understand that the tide is beyond NCLs control but a warning of such might have been nice before we went to check In. The Epics layout overall is not my favorite and I’m happy to see that other ships have not been modeled after it. Overall the cruise was ok, nothing to write home about. As loyal NCL cruisers we will return as guests but I think we may explore other lines after the lack of customer service. Read Less

My wife and I chose this cruise because of the itinerary and the add on pre cruise tour of Cambodia. Embarkation was smooth and efficient. Once onboard we were told an announcement would be broadcast when our cabins were ready. After a bit of exploring we went to the buffet for a drink and a snack. Much the same as all other buffets people piling plates like it was to be their last meal and difficult to find a seat. No announcement came so we went looking to find our cabin was ready. The room was clean and tidy but a bit on the small side to other cabins and rather less storage. The balcony was also on the small side and a bit scruffy. My wife's luggage turned up fairly prompt but no sign of mine so off we went exploring and to have a cocktail or two. Time for dinner and still no luggage. I informed our cabin steward who said she would go and find out where it was. We didn't see her again until 3 days later when she said hello and asked how we were. The next time was our last night when she asked us to fill out a card that chose a crew member who excelled. So it was off to dinner in the clothes I had been wearing all day. Dinner was ok but nothing to brag about. Back to the cabin still no luggage so off to customer services. I told them of the problem and rather offhandedly the lady asked me if I had checked the luggage room. when I replied no I though luggage was always delivered to the staterooms. She said I should have checked there. Keep calm I told myself. I had to ask her where it was and made my way there. I located my case in the said room and was told it had been held back because there was a pair of scissors in my case. I had to get the scissors out and show them and was then told they were ok and I could take my case. This was now 9.00pm. My wife asked them why the information had not been sent to our room instead of us having to go round investigating. Norwegians customer experience is slowly going down the pan. Dining was not a great experience. We used Azure once and thought the room was dark and the low ceiling made it feel too compact and the meal was average but service was very good. Chin Chin was bright and cheerful and the meal was excellent as was the service. The other nights we had dinner in the Tsars Palace. This is a very delightful room, bright, spacious and luxurious. Service was ok most nights but there were some excellent waiters. The meals were quite mediocre and didn't live up to the opulence of the room. One night I had a lamb shank that was served with a slice of carrot and half a roast potato. I am not a huge eater but this was a bit ridiculous. Another night we ordered Irish coffees and as soon as they arrived we could see they were not right. The cream had all dissolved into the coffee, we picked them up and they were cold. We told the waiter who took them away and replaced them. The replacements weren't cold but slightly warm. We just left them. We told our waiter the following night and he told us they had run out of the whipped cream and were using powdered cream. He told us he would personally make coffees for us. The ones he made were very good. We found a lot of the meals we had were very average and quite often they were only warm. This was the only cruise where I only had one cooked breakfast due to the first one being lukewarm. The rest of the time it was toast, fruit and cereals. Bar service in general was very good except for when they ran out of mint for the mojitos. There was only one night where the entertainment was excellent. This was the Circus act. Some of the acrobatics were spectacular. The rock night was enjoyable. Two of the nights had solo female singers who I thought we just ok. The other night was not my scene at all with some very weird artists. the strangest being one huge overweight guy dancing in a leotard. It made me wonder why females have to cover their breasts when this guy had bigger breasts than some of the girls and he had them swinging about everywhere. But he was well received but not by me. The resident band were very good and performed a wide variety of songs. I cant comment on the activities on board as we only had one sea day so didn't explore. Cant comment on excursions either as we planned our own. We could not find any information on the ports we visited. This was our first Norwegian cruise and we found nothing that would make us want to cruise with them again Read Less

This cruise was chosen because it left from New Orleans and I had never been to that city and thought it was a good opportunity to visit the city before going on the cruise. I think that because there were so many young adults, teenagers and children on board, that it made the ship seem very crowded. There seemed to always be a problem finding seating in the common areas such as the pool (impossible), the atrium and the outdoor decks. Also, the casino location in the center of deck 7, the area of the floating steps which opens up from deck 6 to deck 8 had a terrible smell from the people smoking while playing. The free restaurants served good food as did the specialty restaurants. The buffet was ok. The food presentation at the buffet needs improvement. The entertainment was ok, nothing great. There seemed to be a lot of staff in training so there were times when help was needed for them. The ports were very nice and I enjoyed 2 private tours to ruins which I had arranged in advance. We did have trouble making reservations in the restaurants because Norwegian did not let me know that reservations had to be made before coming on board and that was very disappointing. I also did not like the fact that if you ordered a drink, a tip was automatically added on to the cost of the drink. They charged $14,95 per day for tips for the crew but still added on this additional charge. This is the first tine I cruised with Norwegian and I don't think I will do it again,. Read Less

We chose this cruise for a new itinerary. This is not our first time on the Breakaway. Fewer waiters in bars. Less activities such as expert lectures. Less musical choice, too many DJ sessions. Shambolic disembarkation. The cruise ship had a lot of facilities closed until 4 or 5pm each day giving little choice when wandering around ship. The entertainment was only 50% ok. The "rock of Ages" show is not the kind of thing that is needed on a cruise ship with lots of teenagers and younger on board, I wouldn't go to a show at home that was over 100 minutes long without an interval. The content was unacceptable as it meant that a large number of passengers had no show for two evenings. The waiters in the resturaunts had poor grasp of English and we ended getting our full meal delivered at the one time and when asked for them to be delivered as 3 courses all they did was leave the plates at the serving hatch to get cold. I had asked for no main courses and have my starter along with my wives main course. Read Less

We took a Carnival Dream cruise in September, The Breakaway ship was not as clean as Carnival. The staff (except our cabin steward who was fantastic) was not as personable. Carnival Dream goes out of its way to make you feel important. They need many many more bar staff especially near the pool or a better system. Getting drinks was a hassle and took way too long. The waitstaff walking around the pool couldn't keep up with the orders. One of the poolside bartenders was mean and rude. Everyone around us felt the same way. I made complaint about her. I also overheard her and the other bartender rolling their eyes and saying to each other "just a few more hours". They really need to speak to the staff about who is making their jobs possible. The buffet food was AMAZING. However, the food in the restaurants and dining halls was very subpar. I liked being able to eat when and where I wanted as opposed to Carnival but it was not obvious that reservations needed to be made months in advance. The shows were AMAZING. Very high quality as were the singers and dancers around the ship. The dance classes need to be in a bigger venue. We were stepping all over each other and could not see the instructor. The games (newlywed etc..) were very forced and not entertaining. The excursion, drink packages, and wifi packages are extremely higher than Carnival. Considering they own Harvest Kaye it would have been nicer if they offered more affordable excursions and we didn't have to pay $25/person to go to Belize. Costa Maya was way too short considering we paid for a day there. The slides and outdoor ropes course were better than Carnival's dream. The front desk staff was extremely nice. If it were not for our friends we probably would not have had a good time. Read Less

The ship is huge but the atrium (where it all happens) is tiny. There’s no room for the amount of people on the boat to attend the shows and fun things going around. There aren’t even enough show times for everyone to attend in the main theatre. You have to make reservations right away or you won’t get in. Some shows were BORING. Entertainment was not good. I liked the entertainment in the supper club, which is kind of hidden and no one knows is free. There’s so much on the ship that has a hidden cost. We had lots of incorrect charges on our account that Norwegian made nearly impossible to have removed. We were charged for the mini bar that we had removed on day 1.. as well as charges from one of the restaurants for the drinks that they brought that were incorrect. Still have not been reimbursed. We only saw the cruise director once... and we attended a lot of things. He didn’t go above and beyond. We wanted to go to the staff talent show but the theatre was so full you couldn’t get near it. The pool is also so small we were only able to get in it once. The hot tubs there were maybe like 2 on the main deck and 2 elsewhere on other decks. Could not even get into! Why such a big ship and not more on the decks? The gym is the tiniest little sad thing. They must have really just overbooked the cruiise ship or have way too many staterooms. I thought the food was good but at the buffets the food wasn’t hot which worries me a little bit. The main dining room food was really good and hot though. Port Canaveral is not a good port to stop at. Read Less

We were looking forward to this cruise as we've been on two other Norwegian ships (Jewel, Jade) and had fantastic experiences. Unfortunately we didn't enjoy the Epic as we did the others. We will not seek to sail the Epic again. The layout of the ship lead to several bottle necks where the crowds flowing through a deck often came to a stand still because of tight areas or lines of people waiting to get into a restaurant or show. The choice to use the Atrium as the main area for game shows/presentations, IMO, was a poor choice. The acoustics and sight lines were horrible making it near impossible to follow along. Not to mention the Atrium is open to the guest services and excursion desks so the added noise from those areas and other passengers passing by made it more difficult to enjoy a show. Knowing that this is a larger ship (4100 passengers) than we were used to we expected crowds and dealt with them accordingly. The issue is that there are only a limited amount of excursions available. I'm not sure the exact number of people that didn't get to go on an excursion they wanted or settled for less, but I spoke with several families that were unhappy with the excursion options. The guest services experiences was less than impressive too. I had to visit the GS desk several times and the women i dealth with were the most unpleasant people on the ship. The one gentlemen I dealt with went out of his way to ensure my needs were met. This is what I expect from the guest services desk not patronizing and lies so they can move on to the next person in line. I was not impressed with the daily entertainment options as most of the ones I would attend were held in the atrium (see above). The pool, as expected, was packed each day and the lack of wait and bar staff made it near impossible to get a drink the first couple of days. Day three they opened some satellite stations to get a beer or a couple of mixed drinks that helped a little. The shows we attended were fantastic! Kudos to the cast and production crews! Dining options are excellent. While we tend to stick with the Garden Cafe we did visit two restaurants and enjoyed all of the food. The staff in "Taste" were very confused all evening and tried to serve us wrong meals and drinks all night (maybe they were new), but this didn't detract from a good meal. Portions were a bit small, but taste was there. The excursion we went on were overpriced for what you get out of it. We did the Kon Tiki boat and beach tour on St Thomas. The boat crew were nice and entertained, but the public beach we went to has rocky. Not to mention the time in St Thomas was very limited. We were allowed off the ship around 730a and had to be back on board by 130p. Not much time to explore. Tortola was beautiful, but beware of the crazy taxi rides up and down the mountains! We did not get to go to Grand Stirrup Cay due to the oceans waves making the tenders unsafe to operate. Very dissapointing, but a common occurence i hear. Disembarking was a nightmare! We chose the option to leave early with our luggage in tow and ran into an unruly mob of people doing the same with next to no direction from Norwegian staff (only three staff on deck 7 to direct passengers). The confusing part was there were two different ways to disembark. Those with passports and those that had a birth certificate or were Canadian. We were told to go to deck 7 and get in the passport line. The issue is there were soooo many people leaving at the same time and, again, the poor layout of the ship, you couldn't tell where one line ended and another started. The situation could have been averted had there been more than three Norwegian staff on deck 7 to help direct people. Read Less

We chose the ship because it was the new big ship, it is new and big but very crowded because so much of the ship is taken up with the go cart track and private areas on the main decks. The service from the wait staff of great but customer service is beyond bad, they do not care about any issue you have. We do not complain about anything but the power went out in our room couldn’t get anyone there for several hours. Asked several times if one of the three TVs in the pub could be changed to the ncaa tournament and was told sorry we can’t do that even though everyone in the pub wanted the same thing. The adult area in the back was closed everyday at 530 for a special event, it seems odd that we pay for a cruise and large portions of the ship were private a lot of the time including bars and restaurants, if you are going to allow groups to rent out part of the ship we should have been told before hand because it was everyday. Overall ships have started charging for more and more things that used to be included now they limit where you can go during your vacation. The food was Golden Corral type good everyday. The dining room now allows hats and swim suits, no lobster or decent steak that’s in the past. For a ship this size it’s lacking activities, the pool and hot tubs are packed and there is not a lot of activities around the boat. Read Less

We upgraded our 2 rooms to balcony; NCL put us on different floors quite far from one another. We have 3 kids 10 and 9, so it wasted a lot of time going between the 2 rooms. Our room person was just O.K., did the minimal functions, our kids attendant did better considering our kids were messy and our boy did have a few accidents wetting the bed. As far as the food, the buffet was great, way better than Carnivals. The seating in the buffet restaurant is way better too, with enough space to be comfy in. The main dining restaurant was poor as they actually forgot about us after our apps; we left after 45 min of waiting for the main course. Carnival has Guys restaurant and a Taco type restaurant which we loved both; Bliss did not have these free options, but should in our opinion. Carnival tops the Bliss for kids and us when it comes to entertainment. We went on the go carts once, the kids had to ride with us. The main issues were that the guy you see to get on was giving guests a hard time. He told us that our card was declined and to see customer service, which C.S. said our cards were fine. When we went back he was telling another customer the same story. That customer persisted and eventually the attendant said his card now worked. I don't know why he was doing this but the next day he told us the same thing, we just left and immediately went to laser tag and our card worked fine. Also on the go carts they seem to over control your experience and continually slow down the carts remotely. As far as the night time bands, I know preference is part of it, but Carnivals options were much more palatable to the ears. Carnival seemed much more upbeat at night whereas the Bliss seemed low energy with little to do. The worst part of our cruise was that 6 out of the 7 nights they shut down the spice bar area and stage for a private function. Just so happens we smoke, and that is the smoking area. We were moved upstairs with few ash trays and no bar. It did not seem right that we paid full fare and were not provided with areas we paid for. In all if your a family with kids I would recommend Carnival Cruise Lines, unless you want a real laid back sleepy experience where the vibe is not family oriented. Read Less

We had a Mini-Suite underneath the Garden Cafe. Fortunately the noise was not too intrusive. The food in the Garden Cafe was inedible. The coffee was gut renching. The concept of "Freestyle Dining" was misunderstood by me. We did not realize that we had to "plan out our dining choices for the week". I was under the impression that "freestyle dining" meant that we could choose a specialty restaurant on the same day or on the fly. which we found out was totally not true. All of the specialty restaurants were Booked prior to the ship setting sail! What a huge disappointment! The food in the main dining rooms were average. Overall, the service was superb. The staff in the restaurants, cabin steward Jefferson Dulay, was exceptional. Our favorite shore excursion, Dancing Dolphin catamaran trip from St. Thomas to St. John was excellent. Val, Jason and Brandon were absolutely wonderful. The best shore excursion by far. We hired a taxi in St. Johns Antigua. Derrick was fantastic. The 2 hour tour was awesome. He took his time with each site and it did not feel as though you were sitting in a van looking out the windows. He made numerous stops and we got out to explore each stop. The taxi broke down on the way back and he made sure we were well taken care of in very little down time. Would hire him again for sure. Richard, the Cruise Director made each event we attended very enjoyable. He has a lot of energy! Ian, the dining manager made sure the dining room staff were efficient and kept things running smoothly. He was excellent! In spite of the things mentioned above, it was an overall enjoyable and relaxing trip. Read Less

My husband and I picked this for our 2nd year wedding anniversary. While we overall still had a nice time, the staff really didn't seem to be able to keep up or pay attention to the guests. Most of the bartenders we ran across seemed rather cranky and only half paying attention. I ordered 2 drinks at one point and my husband ordered 1. The bartender acknowledged all 3, then only brought back one and seemed annoyed at having to go make the other 2 when he asked again if I needed anything. There were also several occasions where food was ordered, took a good while then came to us incorrect. Either condiments missing or just completely wrong. I ordered a steak from cagneys medium with peppercorn sauce and it came well done with no sauce but by that time we had already waited a good while and I didnt feel like waiting any longer. My mother in law coincidentally ordered another cut of steak well done and it came medium rare the first time so she sent it back just to be put on for a little while longer and they brought back a fresh one that was even more rare than the first. Similar thing happened at osheens. ordered fries with a side of ranch. Fries came 30 minutes later with no ranch. Granted these are minor things but when it seems to happen every time several days in a row it can get rather discouraging. I think it all boils down to the staff being overwhelmed and therefore just throwing the stuff out there. It was all good food, dont get me wrong, but it's not always what we ordered and the portions were usually very small for the price. Entertainment on the other hand was top notch. We really enjoyed the comedians as well as the cirque dinner show and the teppenyaki hibachi restaurant. The pools...well...I'll never understand why they would only have 3 very small pools for people outside the haven to access on a cruise with 4 thousand people. Unless you wanted to sit on a stranger's lap you weren't getting in. Which was a bit disappointing but we found a nice set of lounge chairs on the deck near spice h20 to spend our time. I would say it's worth a shot if you have patience like I do. I rather enjoyed the cruise. But if you have limited patience like my mother in law, you'll really want to be careful of when you go because 2-3 bartenders in a crowd about 6 people deep all around the pool bar can be a bit painful. Very unmemorable cruise event. Overcrowded pool and hot tubs. We didn't;t get in pool or hot tubs as seemed at risk for germs with side by side throngs of people really-really drinking. Ship decor-tired; food in restaurants was average but low quality in buffet dining room as was always cold (if supposed to be warm); desserts and breakfast rolls 100% pre-packeaged, dried-out, cardboard-like and high sugar-fat content. fresh fruits were good. Stopped at Freeport as was unsafe to ferry to original stop. Freeport was a dreadful, depressing collection of dirty shops desperate for tourists to buy any type of junk. There was nothing we wanted to buy and absolutely nothing to see in the tiny area in which we were let out in. Such a disappointment and cruise-line did nothing to make it better like a champagne toast or absolutely anything.Cruise-line very intent on selling anything and everything (art, jewels,casino...) Norwegian typically has really good entertainment but only one evening was really special-rest so-so. Do not recommend this ship at capacity; only recommend sit-down restaurants and really think not a memorable vacation experience. Read Less

We chose this cruise because of the itinerary + price that included some great extras. While we had a 4th FL room w/ only a porthole, we found it quite advantageous to avoid crowds and exit/enter very easily from the ports - they were on our floor. However, get an inside room, being right next to the exits can be quite noisy early in the morning. Overall we had a great cruise. While I wouldn't consider myself a cruiser, it is great for last minute planning if the ports are good. However, since we had the prepaid beverage/dining plan, we felt it was gluttonous and would likely not take those options again. While it was of course our own decisions, we really felt obligated to eat/drink even when we weren't hungry. It's hard to return from an excursion then wait until 8:00 to dine, so of course we had a bite in the buffet, bad idea! The steakhouse and French restaurants were the best, in line w/ the reviews. We also enjoyed the Asian restaurant, the churrascaria could be passed on. The staff was great, appreciated the focus on cleanliness and service. Our room was fine, helped to get so many extras with our package. So here are my 2 beefs. 1) I read all my materials so thought I was sure that we had most costs covered. Surprise - they now have a daily per person service charge to cover ship employees who do not receive tips. I am glad they pay good wages, but I am still very sore that this was not included upfront, very sore. 2) I feel like I was up-sold to fill an excursion that was only mediocre. The gentleman told me the Golden Eagle Sail & Snorkel was the best snorkeling on the trip. It was a great catamaran but sad, sad snorkeling. When I complained about the parts I did not enjoy, nothing was done. Had I known that St Thomas was THE place to snorkel, I would have gladly bought that excursion. Next time I'll do my research and likely book elsewhere for a more reasonable price. At every port, we found better options for full or half day tours of the island highlights. Read Less

We chose this cruise because it fit perfectly into our schedule. The cruise itself was wonderful. We loved all the ports and excursions. The only problem was the food. The whole reason we switched from Royal to Norwegian was the food. This trip we saw the same shrimp in a dish most nights. Our favorite lava cake dessert, which is usually offered nightly, was only offered one night. I hope this isn't a sign of things to come. Our room was extremely small, but our room steward was excellent. We had a great time in the casino, the dealers were very friendly. I was very impressed with the life guards around the pool. I had never seen them on prior cruises and always thought they were necessary. These lifeguards made sure parents controlled their children and kept the drunk people from drowning the 7 foot deep pool. Getting on and off the ship was a breeze. Read Less
