An overall decent winter getaway

Review for a Caribbean - Southern Cruise on Norwegian Sky

Like the title says, overall this was a decent winter getaway. The ship was sold out which meant elevators were sometimes crowded, and the pool decks were almost always crowded but luckily not a huge amount of chair hogs. People were definitely camping out though. We booked this cruise and travelled with 3 other couples. All of us were booked in regular oceanview cabins (1 couple booked an ...

Deck 14– room under a galley in the observation lounge

Review for a Caribbean - Eastern Cruise on Norwegian Encore

The ship is beautiful. We thought the staff and service was great although many people onboard disagreed. Good food options, as a picky eater I was always able to find something I liked. The pool deck is definitely way too small. Not enough room to put an adequate amount of chairs and loungers. If you want a lounger, be out by 7am. They try to make up for the lack of space by cramming regular ...

Sailed on our 1st ever cruise on the Sky in 2003.

Chose this busy 14 day, 14 port cruise out of Dominican Republic for a great itinerary. We sailed this ship on our 1st ever cruise in 2003 when we still had kids. The ship is now the oldest NCL ship I believe and one of the smallest. We sailed out of La Romana after flying into Punta Cana on Superbowl weekend. The port: La Romana is a nice port with plenty to do. Unfortunately, the D.R. is ...

Lacking The Feel of a Luxury Cruise

Review for a Caribbean - Eastern Cruise on Norwegian Getaway

Our favorite vacation is a cruise and have found in the past NCL to be to our liking as we have never encountered any issues until recently. Food, if we hadn't purchased the specialty dining packages (four in total) we would have been very disappointed as the food in the general dining restaurants was very bland and lacked any special flare. On board entertainment and service was very ...

A large ship that feels crowded and small.

We chose the cruise for a family get together to escape the winter in the northeast. The Norwegian Encore trip was the perfect itinerary on a modern vessel. Once on board it simply seemed that there are too many passengers than activity accommodations. The pool is very small, smaller than the smaller NCL ships we had previously been on. The Sun decks were always crowded and not very big. NCL ...

Not bad, but not great!

We booked the NCL Encore for our 20th anniversary with a group of 10 people. I have cruised before with Celebrity, but this was the first-time cruising for the majority of our group and my first time on Norwegian. Things that we liked: - Embarkment and Dis-embarkments were flawless - quick and easy - Room was a good size with a lot of storage - Balcony was a good size and allowed you ...

The good and the bad

Review for a Caribbean - Eastern Cruise on Norwegian Getaway

This ship is big and the reviews weren’t great but I found the food very good with lots of variety and fresh fruit. The shows were excellent but the bad did not outweigh the good. The ship is noisy with no place to sit and read. There was not much to do on sea days, in the evenings there were shows but in the daytime it was just drinking and gambling which I don’t do. We missed the Bermuda ...

The ship wasn't the highlight of the trip

My entire family of six sailed on the Getaway to the Caribbean to celebrate our 50th wedding anniversary. We had a great time because it was the first time the family has cruised together, and it was an altogether new experience for my son and grandson. Weather prevented us from visiting Bermuda, but we did get to St. Maarten, St. Thomas, Puerto Rico and Puerto Plata in the Dominican Republic. I ...

First the positives. The staff!! The staff were helpful and friendly. From the dining staff to the room stewards and everyone else. They were so good that I added a tip to my already prepaid tips. My room was comfortable and spacious. I was glad I opted for a large balcony with chaise lounges. The specialty restaurants were good. I enjoyed my meals at the Tropicana, especially with the ...
