We loved Bermuda. Leaving from Boston is a breeze. We have traveled on the Dawn many times. Getting on the ship was so easy. We arrive at Black Falcon at 11;30. We were on the ship by noon. We choose to go to the buffet for lunch. The buffet is OK. The area is very clean. The food is OK. It is not fabulous, but it is not awful. I usually get a salad with fruit. So the buffet is good. Lots of burger/hot dog/sandwich choices. We went to the welcome show. It was OK. We have seen it so many times. We went to Los Lobos for guacamole. It is unreal. They makes it at your table. Worth the $5.99. day 2 I spent doing trivia, reading, casino, and being lazy. Trivia was fun. Since I have been on many cruises, trivia does not use the same games over and over. The casino took my $$$$$. Day 3, we arrived early to Bermuda. I went to snorkel beach. They were charging double. NOT worth it. The beach is full of broken glass and bottle tops. They do not clean the beach after the nighttime party. Several people stepped on broken glass. They had to get stitches. Day 4 I took the new FREE NCL ferry to St. George. I arrived to see the dunking. This is a reenactment of how women were punished in the 1700. It is a very funny show. St George is trying to come back. Most of the stores were closed. An hour is all that is needed there. Such a cute town, but not much to do there. Day 5, I took a free tour of the dockyard. It was wonderful. The tour starts at the moon gate at 9:30 AM. They reenact the year 1863. You meet townsfolk as you walk. It was fun. I also took a tour of the fort. It was $15. I thought it was great and worth the $$. I also took a walk to the clock tower for shopping. I do not like to go far on departure day. Day 6 was a sea day. I spent the day at trivia, casino, reading, and shows. Saw Elements. I have seen this show several times. It is still wonderful. Casino took my $$$$. Day 7, I spent doing trivia, casino, and talking to friends. Casino took my $$$$. We ate at several restaurants. Our favorite is Los Lobos. We love the guacamole and grilled shrimp. Service is the best. We had dinner with a friend at Moderno's. I love the salad bar. The desserts are super. Service was excellent. We had a meal at Bamboo. The food is good, not great. But it is a free restaurant....so I was happy. We also ate two nights at Cagney's. Cagney's is the reason for a lower review. As latitude members we received two free dinners with wine after our 30th cruise (we now have 77 with NCL) About six months ago, NCL took our well-earned rewards away. We now receive one free meal with wine and one free meal with water, They also took away allowing us to order a side. A 20 cent order of fries after 77 cruises. They give you a pieces of meat all alone on a plate. The Breakaway and the Gem allow their loyal customers a side. The NCL Dawn does not. The manager is very rude. He refuses to budge. I ordered lamb the first night. It was delicious. I ordered it again the last night. It had a sour taste. I sent it back. The second order also had a sour taste. The manager refused to believe the meat tasted bad. He argued with me. I love the Dawn. It is my favorite ship. Read Less

When we booked our cruise we were assigned a cabin on the ninth deck. We received an email about bidding on an upgrade. So I decided that I would put in a very low bid and see what happened. To my surprise a $50 bid got us an upgrade to a mini suite. The saying too good to be true now comes to mind. From about 6 AM to 11 PM the Garden Café is serving buffet to lots and lots and lots of hungry passengers on the 12th deck. Every time someone moves a chair it can be heard in the mini suite below. We were in cabin 11652 which is absolutely beautiful and spacious but if you like to sleep past 6 AM forget it. Aside from that the housekeeping was spectacular as usual and I think those in housekeeping are the hardest working people on the ship. The food was spectacular and the waitstaff amazing. We wish we had known that even with the beverage package we would be charged taxes while in US waters. My daughter had some homework to do and was in the Internet café. The Wi-Fi went down and she lost all of her work. So we explained that to the Internet café manager who very rudely asked her to prove that there was no Wi-Fi while she was on. We were billed for 57 minutes of useless Internet time. This was our third cruise and probably our last. Read Less

I traveled with my husband and daughters. My husband and I had a Penthouse suite aft, and our daughters had a balcony room. Our suite was fantastic! Our butler, Ray, was the best!! If we needed anything at all he was at our room in minutes. Alex took care of our daughters' room and he was awesome! The food on the ship was very good. Our favorite meal was enjoyed at La Cucina - highly recommended. We enjoyed Clara on most evenings in the Gatsby Bar, or tried our luck at the Casino. Our daughters, 18 & 20, had a great time at the Bliss Lounge at night and met others their age that they could hang out with. We also enjoyed the company of Jerry and Maria at the Wine Bar - we would stop in and have a glass of wine before dinner - great people and very knowledgeable. We participated in a wine tasting one afternoon and had a lot of fun. The reasons I have for not giving my review 5 stars is this: 1) The pool area is far too crowded and passengers are ALLOWED to place towels and belongings on the lounge chairs in order to hold them. This is very frustrating when you are looking to sit for a while and there are plenty of chairs empty of people, but occupied by towels! NCL needs to enforce some sort of policy to make it fair for all passengers to be able to lounge by the pool. 2) The lack of bottled water, or the limited access to it, is very problematic. I felt as though I was thirsty the entire time. 3) And lastly, I feel as though I would want to enjoy at least one more day on Bermuda. I took the cruise way back in the day when the Norwegian Majesty was still around, and we spent 3 1/2 days on Bermuda, not just 2 1/2. The trip back to Boston felt really long, even though we had fun onboard, we would have appreciated a little more time on the island. Overall, this was a very fun cruise for all of us. We all had a blast and can't wait to take this cruise again. I would recommend this cruise to everyone. Read Less

Booked this cruise last minute, traveling solo ~ Great price, great cabin! I've been in every category up to The Owner's Suite and Penthouse on previous cruises and this inside guarantee worked just fine for me especially since you can no longer smoke on your balcony. Embarkation was a breeze. I was in my cabin at 11:30. Deck 8 was ideal. Plenty of room and storage in my cabin, close to an elevator and just above the Casino and dining and below the pool and buffet. BeeVee in The Venetian always knew my name and greeted me with a smile and desire to please making me feel as though I truly mattered. Rubellen was just as friendly and while making me towel flowers at lunch said "These are not pretty but they come from my heart." Oh!! Of course they were beautiful and I will remember that moment! I also enjoyed eating at Moderno, Cagney's Orchid, The Buffet and Topsiders. Dante kept my cabin sparkling clean and well stocked. A fun week that went by way too fast! Loved ~ The friendly helpful staff, my cabin, storage, towel animals, creative meal and dessert presentation, Casino, dancing to Big Band Music and Karaoke in The Bliss Lounge, Music in the Atrium and dancing at the pool, the line Dances and Mr. Sexy Legs Contest! St. George's little shops and $4.50 shuttle one way to Tobacco Bay. The Bermuda Triangle night time excursion with Tiana and Kevin was fantastic. I enjoyed watching the sunset and seeing the fish, coral and sunken ship. Learned that Bermuda is closer to Canada than the Caribbean but warmed by the gulf stream. Snorkel park was a short walk from the ship and $5 to enter. The water was great although a bit rocky in spots and there is live music, food and drinks available. Didn't Like ~ Hard to get a chair by the pool. Pool was very small for the amount of people and children on board. The shortened hours in The Venetian and day 5 it wasn't open at all for lunch. I Missed ~ The Chocoholic Buffet, Mints on my pillow at night and the poolside barbecue. Little touches that make cruising extra special for me. Read Less

I'm trying to understand, from previous readings, how there can be such in difference in how people are writing reviews. Others are saying food was deplorable, crew was unfriendly, etc etc, but then gave it 4 stars. 4 stars, but then said they wouldn't take this cruise again. And, asking what happened to the chocoholic buffet, when all cruise lines stopped doing this many years ago. I, like most people, are really glad to see it go. Such a waste of food! Now... I didn't give it five, because in some areas, yes, it could use some improvement. However... I didn't find the crew to be unfriendly. I didn't find the food to be deplorable. I found most, (and I do mean most as there were a few and only a few exceptions), of the crew doing a fabulous job. The food use to be better. But, even then, I won't say every meal was outstanding. Seems the whole lobster-no-more thing is still an issue. It isn't for me, as eating lobster isn't just a cruise sort of thing for me. They haven't done it on any cruise line for many years now. I like this cruise. I've done it many times. Mainly because it's convenient for us New Englanders. I do feel spoiled when I take this cruise. I do find just about everyone doing whatever they can to be friendly and helpful. People in Bermuda are like that too:) Read Less

This was our first time on-board the Dawn since the upgrade. Everything was excellent. The best money spent on the cruise is using the facilities at the Spa. We ended up there almost every day - relaxing and meeting new friends. There is a 3.4 foot deep lap pool, hot tube and large hot tube with the bubbles that massage as you lay back. There is also a steam and dry sauna. The food on the ship is very good. We went to three of the premium restaurants and they were all very good. None of the meals blew me away but all were prepared well and presented beautifully. The entertainment on the ship was very good and the Elements show is not to be missed. All in all we were very happy to be on board. We always say that even if something isn't great - we make the best of any situation. Enjoy yourself - you're on vacation - and many people can't say the same thing! As a bonus - we were the "older" contestants on the Newlywed Game! 40th Anniversary cruise. Read Less

Overall the experience was very good. The Norwegian staff were excellent. They were extremely friendly and helpful. We enjoyed the food on board as well. La Cucina was excellent as well as Cagney's. Los Lobos was a let down for us. We had heard great things about it going in, but it just didn't deliver for us. We felt the buffet was good, had a pretty decent variety, breakfast was by far the best buffet. The only issue with the buffet area was a lack of seating, especially during breakfast time. The drinks were really good too. They had a bunch of pre-made rum drinks ready to go, so good and strong! If you didn't want the pre-made rum drinks the bartenders were skilled enough to make just about anything you wanted. When making the reservation we opted for the unlimited beverage package....do it, its worth it and pays for itself after a couple days. We wished there had been more than one pool on board. It gets very crowded at times and its hard to enjoy, especially with a lot of kids using it. A lot of kids were jumping in and splashing around quite a bit. I know there was a kids pool/section near the back of the ship, but most of them used the main pool. There needs to be an adult only pool so you don't have to deal with the constant splashing from the kids. One pool for over 2000 guests doesn't work. Getting on/off the ship in Bermuda was very easy and hassle-free. Although there are some things to do where you dock (Royal Navy Dockyard) it is on the far west side of the island. So to get anywhere you need to use public transportation. Using the ferries is best/quickest but the schedules change almost daily and is easy to screw up (which we did). I would definitely choose Norwegian again, but probably on a bigger/more updated ship. Read Less

We chose this cruise because the extended family mostly live in the metro Boston area and had people on the cruise last year. Given the large party, we found it very difficult to communicate within the family and with people we met on the ship. NCL WIFI cost are priced by the minute and are costly, especially for 18 people. We did have many family photos taken by the NCL photo team. They did an excellent job in providing many future memories. The specialty restaurants we tried were Cagney, Teppanyaki, Moderino, and Le Bistro. I found Cagney the most enjoyable with Moderino second. Le Bistro was the most disappointing when a couple of us ordered duck. I should have known something was up when I ask the duck breast on the rare side and the waiter give me a strange look. This entree turned out to be shredded duck and was like dried pulled pork. The big surprise were the delicious chicken wings at O’Sheehan’s - a must try. The newly renovated ship was great from what we remember the first time. I believe the Dawn will be cursing from a different port next year. Read Less

Very enjoyable cruise to Bermuda on the Dawn. The process of getting on and off could not have been easier, and the trip was smooth sailing all week. Pros: - Incredibly friendly and helpful crew; top notch wait staff and bartenders - Excellent cabin steward - We did not have the food upgrade package but found the standard food options to be very good; especially liked Venetian and Aqua (Bamboo not so much). Good choices at the buffet - The band, Sonata, was excellent as was DJ Dan - Lots of activities and entertainment options - Public areas were well maintained - Very nice and spacious casino, same for the fitness center - One of the best kept "secrets" was the 9th floor lounge, which is accessible from the corridor near the rooms or the staircase from O'Sheehans; nice place to read or relax with friends - Room was ready early along with luggage delivery - Quality drinks, including some top shelf liquor options - No issues with allowing my kids going off to do their own activities - The dock in Bermuda was nice, easy to find transportation to all major sights plus things to do right there next to the ship - Excellent attention to cleanliness to avoid a ship-wide outbreak; lots of germicide dispensers and reminders to wash your hands. When some tall 19-yr old knucklehead barfed on the dance floor the staff jumped to action and cleaned it like it was a bio-hazard spill Cons: - The pool - way too small for the amount of passengers; no rules about kids in the hot tubs which resulted in all the hot tubs being filled constantly - Limited outlets in the cabin, probably because they don't want people leaving electronics plugged in all day due to fire hazard; bring extension cords if you need to plug in anything next to your bed at night - Layout can be a bit confusing, but once you figure it out it's manageable - Cigar lounge - it's not really a "cigar" lounge if anyone can sit there and smoke cigarettes(yes they are different). Plus the smell is not well contained so that if you go to Gatsby's lounge next to it be prepared to have a smoky experience One more that I won't consider a con, more of a pet peeve, but people who absolutely cannot sing should not be allowed to do karaoke EVERY time it's held. Some of these monotone warblers took up spots every time it was held(sorry but that little girl and her young brother with the shades may have seemed cute the first time, but c'mon, that was painful to listen to). I am guessing that Sonata must get combat pay to run the 'bandaoke'. Overall I gave it a "Very Good" but it's oh so close to being "Excellent"...probably an "Excellent minus". Nice job NCL. Read Less

Family vacation from Boston so we wouldn't have to deal with flying to enjoy an island. Cruise ship was clean, and encourages staying clean - "washy washy, happy happy!" Was very glad I made reservations for our dinners before boarding. The only time we had a "glitch" was when they declared a Captain's Night so we had to rush back to our cabin to get changed into proper attire (no shorts!) to be admitted into the Venetian. Entertainment Fabulous - Poolside and in the Stardust Theater! Only had one negative Service situation that parents prepaying for the Soda package should watch for: Even though my 15 year old son had his card showing he had the Soda beverage package, he had unacceptable difficulty getting just soda from the Bimini Bar staff. They would ignore him and focus only on assisting the alcohol drinking passengers! I had the ultimate beverage package so I would order a drink (soda or virgin) for him when I went up for me. This was a hassle for him and I. Our vacation got much better on the second night when we found the BEST bartenders were at O'Sheehans! Leo and Benedict ALWAYS acknowledged him with a smile and happily got him his orange soda or root beer ANYTIME he stopped by. They really made all the difference for him!! A great big thank you to them for making our vacation happy for all! Read Less

The trip was intended as a simple family getaway with minimal additional travel beyond the cruise itself since we live within an hour of the Boston port. Overall, the trip was good. Food was very acceptable in quality and of course quantity. As with most, if not all cruises, getting a chair on deck when it's sunny is a hassle because people go out at 6am and block off chairs with towels only to come back out hours later. The size of the ship is good. We docked in Bermuda in front of "Anthem of The Seas" and I asked some of those passengers how it was with thousands of additional people. Several said that it was a bit more crowded than the smaller ships. We traveled with two teenagers. As might be expected, teenagers are a fickle bunch so, I wouldn't measure quality based on any handful of them. It appeared that there was no shortage of activities to keep them occupied and entertained. The entertainment was very good. From the on deck DJ & band to the actual shows in the theater... all were top notch. I used the fitness center and it was well appointed to make use of for a trip this length. I had problems finding pictures of the renovated center prior to departure so I took some and am posting with this review for others. All-in-all, it was good trip especially for locals who can get a good deal since there is no air travel. Read Less

very fun ship...lot to do with kids and adults...the entertainment was TOP NOTCH, and Bermuda is a great port...rooms were clean and nice...and the upgrades were very good. Only a few negative things to mention: 1) Out of Boston, and maybe this is the time of the year, there were a LOT of younger (18-22) kids getting hammered...that goes obviously with a lot of adults...it's not going to ruin your time, but it can get annoying QUICK...during a more intimate cabaret show/improv comedy show, some kids were so loud you couldn't hear the performers with their mics MAXED...again this might be different when you go. 2) This is my fourth Norwegian Cruise, and I've never encountered as much of a language barrier as this ship. Normally the crew is very international, but in this occasion, we did have some issues. 3) The food outside of sit down wasn't all that great. Usually the buffet has varying options, but it seemed like the same old every day. the Bamboo included restaurant was impossible to get a reservation to. And the Irish bar pub food was not good. 4) Our inside cabin had VERY thin walls, so we could hear a lot of other people...again this could be our cabin/floor, and the party atmosphere of the ship. Overall I would recommend this cruise, just be aware of when you go. Read Less

I took this cruise with five other women. Some of us are experienced cruisers and some were cruising for the first time. This particular ship supposedly was updated recently but I still found it to be dated. I have been on four other cruises with Norwegian and this ship was the least appealing in terms of decor. However, as much as I love a tropical decor other things matter more to me. I thought the entertainment crew did a great job on this cruise. I love going to shows and listening to music and was pleased with the acts I saw. The food was delicious. More often we ate in the main dining room but did have some meals at the buffet and next to the pool, as well as continental breakfast in our room. There was variety to choose from and it was prepared well. In addition to the general activities, I splurged on a thermal spa pass and some salon services. I was very impressed with my bamboo massage and enjoyed having the escape of the thermal spa since it gave me a quiet area to unwind. Out on the deck the kids tended to take over the pool and in spite of signs that said no jumping or diving they jump and dive. The staff didn't stop them and the parents were nowhere to be found. Our rooms were oceanview staterooms on deck 8. Our steward, Heri, was friendly and did a great job keeping our room clean. One other area that NCL should reconsider is that they had health based seminars (i.e. acupuncture and Chinese medicine) in a tiny space outside of the cigar lounge and casino. People who attend those seminars are looking to stay healthy but are subjected to noticeable second hand smoke plus the acoustics are pour due to noise in the balcony above. These seminars should be moved to an area that is more appropriate. This was my second cruise to Bermuda. It is a beautiful, friendly, clean, safe island. A beach lovers paradise. Read Less

Keep in mind that for a first time cruiser, I did not know what to expect or even what to look for in a cruise so my opinions may be skewed since I do not have any other cruise to compare this one to but even so I had a WONDERFUL time on the Norwegian Dawn and I felt that it was a great cruise for my first time. When I was initially booking a cruise, I had no idea what to look for in terms of ports or ships. I figured since I would not be able to tell the difference (it being my first cruise) I decided to look for the cheapest option. Norwegian Dawn to Bermuda was what I came up with and I'm glad I did! I went with my girlfriend and we had initially booked an inside stateroom but through the upgrade program was able to get an ocean-view for close to nothing. It was well worth the cost and being able to wake up to natural lighting and seeing the ship leave and arrive to ports while in the comfort of your room was a good experience. The room itself was adequate for the two of us but probably no more than that. Our steward came by fairly often whenever we left and cleaned up our room 2-3 times a day. The ship was big enough for us that we were able to explore and familiarize with all the locations but small in the fact that it would get boring past 7 days knowing where everything was. The ship itself seemed crowded at times while at sea. Some venues such as the lounge areas or the pool and hot tubs were almost always occupied even late at night. That being said, whenever we dropped by any of the dining areas, we never had to wait. The food itself was good but not amazing. They had a wide variety of choices that changed every day that also catered to vegetarians with some gluten-free choices. The entertainment on the ship was great. Even though the ship only had one real theatre venue, they were able to spread to other areas on the ship such as the lounges. There were plenty of activities to do for all ages and we wish we had more time to see them all! For a first time cruiser, this cruise was particularly good in that it stayed in Bermuda for two nights which allowed us to feel less rushed when exploring. They offered a wide variety of shore excursions to choose from that ranged from different activity levels that all ages could enjoy. We expected prices to be steep but they were offering round trip bus rides to the beach that were almost three times what the locals were offering for the SAME service! One excursion we took included a tour to the Crystal Caves and the Bermuda Aquarium, Zoo and Museum. We enjoyed the tour but it was NOT well organized at ALL. It took them almost half an hour to arrange the taxis to drive the different groups to the caves and once we arrived we had to wait an additional 20 minutes to wait for the first group to do their tour of the caves before we could start. All in all this meant that once we arrived to the Bermuda Aquarium, Zoo and Museum, we only had 40 minutes to explore all 3 different locations! This was the biggest smudge on the cruise experience and I recommend anyone taking a cruise to Bermuda to just book things yourself. Bermuda is a huge tourist location and it is easy to walk off the ship and find tours that you can probably book for cheaper. Overall, we both had a good time and it definitely changed my outlook on cruising! Read Less

Cruised with 5 female friends which I have known for approx. 45 yrs. The food at the buffet on the 12th deck was very good...although I wish the soft serve ice cream was available more often. Very clean...no sooner would you finish eating and there would be someone to take our dirty plates away. Found the Venetian restaurant (although very nice) to be slow at times and chlostraphobic. Had coffee, juice, danish, etc. delivered to our room a few mornings in lieu of going out for breakfast. It worked out nicely! Our steward was FABULOUS...the entire staff was just fabulous! Everyone was so nice! The entertainment was very good as well! Bingo was extremely expensive...beyond ridiculous! The worst part of my trip was the cigarette smoke...primarily in the casino and in the lounge area just outside the casino. There is a smoking room just outside the casino; however, the smoke lingers outside of that room...and it's bad at times! I had a woman that has smoked for many years tell me how bad that room was to go into. The day before my cruise was to dock back in Boston, I got a terrible sinus infection from the cigarette smoke and was feeling miserable and could not wait to get home. The other issue was the fact that there is only 1 pool...on the 12th floor...which was always full of kids. If I cruise again, I will have to research to find a ship that hopefully has a better handle on cigarette smoking as well as some adult only areas. I love kids...but I also enjoy some time without the kids. The hot tubs were filled with kids all through the night. I didn't think kids were supposed to be in the hot tubs. Kids were walking around the tops of the hot tubs. Nobody was enforcing what the kids were doing. I am with kids all day every day and my vacation was spent worrying about the kids that nobody seemed to be watching! One more thing...I had not rec'd my suitcase come 10:30 on the first night so I called customer service. They said I had to go downstairs to the 7th floor to claim my suitcase because the paper label that was initially printed had come off (it was initially taped and stapled) and apparently nobody knew where to deliver the suitcase. Well...there was another name/address tag on the suitcase and had somebody bothered to look to see if there was another tag, they would have seen my name and could have looked up my name as a passenger on the ship and known who owned the suitcase. I was a bit frustrated to say the least! Wish there were Bermuda brochures/magazines on the ship so we had a better idea before we got to Bermuda where to go/what to do (maybe I missed them)! I consider this cruise as a learning experience as to what I would/would not want on my next cruise! Minus my comments above, my friends and I had a nice time! Read Less

Loved the ship and Bermuda! Great staff and food. Crew dancers and shows were amazing! Only complaint is allowing t shirts in the main dining. We enjoyed all of the activites on board. Staying in Bermuda for 2 1/2 is wonderful but wished it had been longer. The America Cup was a bonus. Enjoying watching the boats practice near our ship. Best Bonus was the free NCI ferry to St George. But we had to take the local ferry back due to mechanical trouble on NCI ferry returning from St George. We plan to cruise to Bermuda again next year and hope all the problems will be solved by then. The speciality mexican restaurant was the best! Watching the staff make homemade guacamole was amazing! Nice seating right near the window and was able to watch the sunset. Alain hotel manager came over to chat and remembered us from our M&G 4 years ago. Read Less

Departing from Boston, first time there. Getting to the port in the traffic was confusing and we had to drive around a couple of times. Once we got to the secured parking lot (prepaid online) a shuttle took us to the cruise terminal. The workers take your checked bags and point you in right direction to get in line for check in with NCL. Each passenger gets an ID card to use throughout the cruise. Our suite was nice & roomy and had a huge bathroom with the best shower ever. Included with a suite purchase is loads of priority amenities like boarding first, butler & concierge service, special dining, reserved seating at shows, treats and snacks throughout each day in the cabin and more. This was the nicest part while on the ship. We tried to avoid the crowds as much as we could, especially the smokers who take over most of the pool deck and the casino. We did not get to enjoy the pool or spas on the ship as they were always crowded with smokers and also drinkers or rowdy kids. However, we did very much enjoy all of the entertainment and activities. The shows and games (bingo & deal or no deal) were awesome. Dining was just okay and could have been better overall. We tried to eat breakfast once at the Garden Cafe- we all filled a plate then was dumb founded after circling around; because it was so crowded that there were actually no empty tables for us to sit down! And the specialty restaurants- Cagney's, Bistro and the Italian one, are no better than eating in the main dining rooms in regards to the food or service, so don't waste your money on them. But do get the beverage package. We are glad we did- it was a lot fun trying out drinks we normally wouldn't of (like a cognac, etc). Bermuda is wonderful to visit. The mesmerizing blue ocean water is to be enjoyed- on the beach, a boat, whatever you choose. We chose kayaking and loved it- the turtle nursery is a site to see. We also had a lovely time at the Aquarium/Zoo. Be aware of the ferry schedule and plan your days accordingly. We missed out on going to visit St. George's because we didn't realize there wouldn't have been a ferry to get us back in time. DO NOT use the Bermuda pink bus system - is just awful and time consuming. Take a taxi instead. :) Read Less

Had a great time. Crew was very friendly and attentive and most work very hard to make your trip very enjoyable. Shows could use a refreshing but still entertaining. Garden buffet was good but a lot of the same selections every night. Los Lobos is our favorite specialty restaurant. Bistro, and Cagneys we very good. La Cucina not so much. Casino can get crowed at time especially when a show is letting out. Ncl running their own ferry now free of charge to St. George which is a plus especially on the last day in port. Woody's Sports Bar is a must if you like fish sandwiches or fish dinners!! Bermuda is beautiful!! With the Americas Cup it was the busiest I've seen Bermuda but not crowded. Embarkation and disbarktion were a breeze. We did not encounter any issues. We will be doing this again in August and looking forward to it very much. Read Less

We have taken this cruise every year for the past 6 years, as it is so convenient for MA residents, and we love Bermuda. The entertainment itself was fine the first time we took the cruise, and the quality of the entertainment is good, just stale. Unfortunately, NCL focuses on recruiting new people to the cruise, rather than offering something new to return travelers. The entertainment is the same every single year! And while the ship recently underwent a multi-million dollar renovation, it was mostly cosmetic. The Dawn is still the Dawn, a nice mid-size ship. It does seem however, like this ship is a training boat for new employees, before they move on to bigger and better assignments on ships out of Florida or New York. The food was good and there were many dietary options. I do wish they would offer homemade salad dressing to go with salads in the Garden Cafe, rather than the same bottled brand I can buy at home. We had breakfast in the Garden Cafe every day and were satisfied with what was offered. They used to have a poolside barbecue which was not offered this past cruise. We bought a meal plan for dinners and ate in the specialty restaurants. Cagney's is the best! The rib eye is consistently delicious, though the Dawn does not offer the tomahawk chop, which is offered on other ships. One of the things we enjoy most is the help yourself soft-serve ice cream dispensers, though they seem to have done away with the "swirl" option. We will most likely take this cruise again, mostly for the convenience, value and destination. Read Less

The service as always, was excellent. The specialty restaurants were excellent also. The buffet however ,could have changed up their menu more. most of the shows were really good, but the singers on this cruise were not of the quality we have experienced in the past. the hot tubs were very sub par. I don't know why, but the temperature of the water in all of them had been turned way down, nothing more than warm bath water, and that's not what we were used to. Really wanted that hot tub experience, and was very disappointed, expecially since the pool was ice cold. The slots in the casino were paying poorer than usual also. We never expect to win but we usually get more play for our money than w did this time. Also, and this applies to all of norwegians casinos at sea; they need to update their machines on a much more frequent basis. The ship did embark right on time, a surprise. Don't get me wrong, my wife and i are still planning on many more cruises with norwegian(9 so far), and hope they will read this and make the necessary steps to improve. Read Less

We chose this cruise because we live in the greater Boston area so no flights were needed. We picked the first week in June because we thought there would be less children on board (before schools get out but there were still more than we thought!). We are retired, in our mid 60's, and healthy. We do find that this cruise out of Boston is a bit overpriced, but we are paying for the convenience of not having to fly anywhere so it averages out. Embarkation went very smoothly - we arrived at the port approx 10:45 (at our appointed time),and were on board at Noon. We did have to sit in a waiting area which seemed to annoy some people but things went smoothly if you were just patient and listening to instructions. The main dining room is open for lunch and most people are not aware of that so we had a very nice, quiet lunch once we were on board. Once we finished lunch we were able to go to our cabin and our bags were delivered about 1:30 pm which was pretty fast! Dining - we ate in the Main dining room several times, and O'Sheehan's Pub as well. As a perk we were able to dine in Moderno for Breakfast and lunch which was very quiet. Eating in any dining room is always our preference to the buffet. The food was as expected - not fabulous but good. We had a specialty dining package (3 dinners) as part of our perks for booking and this was a first for us - the meals were very good and well worth the extra gratuity charge we paid for this "free" perk but we don't normally pay for extra special dining so it was a nice bonus for us. We ate in Teppanyaki, Moderno (go VERY hungry and don't fill up at the salad bar!) and Cagney's - of the 3 Cagneys was by far the best! We never use room service but did notice there is now a $7.95 fee for each delivery - not "free" anymore either.... We also chose the Ultimate Beverage Package as our other perk but again this is not "free". We paid $98 each in gratuities up front and would have paid about that or less without the package as we are very light drinkers and don't drink a lot of soda but it does make it easier not having to keep track of your bar spending. Bottled water is not included in this perk but the water from the ship is probably filtered better than at home so we bring refillable bottles and have them filled with ice before we leave the ship for the day. Excursions: we have been to Bermuda several times, so we did our "own thing" - when we arrived on Sunday we took the #7 bus ($9 round trip each- tokens are bought at the Info center) to see the Gibbs lighthouse. We were left off by Henry the VIII's and you walk uphill about 1/4 mile to the lighthouse - and then 187 steps to the top for fabulous views ($2.50 admission each). Came back down and caught the #7 again back to the dockyards. On Monday we took the new NCL Ferry (which is complimentary!) to St. George and back - our favorite area on the islands. From the center of town we went into the information center and purchased round trip bands to get us to and from Tobacco Bay - a beautiful beach on the North Shore - $9 for the two of us in a shared van) - we purchased a chair and umbrella for $20 and snorkeled in the bay. There are facilities and a snack/beverage bar. On Tuesday we went to Snorkel Park which is within walking distance from the dock. $5 per person cover charge - nice clean facilities and also snack bar, etc. Chairs ranged from $5 for a regular chair to $15 for a nice lounger- $10 for an Umbrella. With two ships in port the beach was very crowded but we got in some more snorkeling (we bring our own gear) until the winds picked up and the skies clouded up. Service was great all over the ship and we were always greeted with smiles wherever we went. This crew works hard for their money and seem to enjoy what they do. Entertainment was good - the comedian was not to our liking, but there was always something going on somewhere on the ship - so many different choices it can be overwhelming if you try to do it all! Jerry 9NOt Terry)Sager is a Broadway star and her show was amazing as was Soul Duo. We had seen "Haines Magic" previously and he was amazing as always - "how did they do that????" A Second City troupe was onboard as well but we missed them. Disembarkation - we thought since we were local that we would use the "walk off" program and not have to search for our luggage - this proved to be the wrong way to go as so many people made this choice the line went down one side of the ship, through the bliss lounge and back up the other side to get off. Since we had a priority advantage, if had we used the tag system and placed our bags out the night before we would not have been in such long lines. We only had to turn in our Custom slip - no customs to go thru other than that and no need for passports to be shown. The Dawn is a beautiful ship with a great crew and we will definitely be on her again from our "home port". Read Less

Once again we had a fabulous time on the Dawn. Embarkation went smoothly. We hired a company to transport a group of 10 and were dropped off right at the pier. This year we went the 1st week in June. Weather was great. The seas were rough on the way home. We stayed in an ocean view room 8150. There was a noise outside at night, maybe the lifeboats moving a little on rough nights. We could not hear noise from the Bliss lounge which others had mentioned might be a problem. We liked being able to look outside. We had 4 people in the room. It was tight but doable, we did not spend a lot of time in the room. Our room steward was new and training. We did not see a lot of him and he was very quiet. But as the week went on he warmed up and we understood he was learning the ropes. Members of the crew who stood out for us were "Awesome" at the bar in O'Sheehan's and "Danny Boy" a dinner waiter at Aqua. Food was good. But more variety would have been good for people like me who don't like sea food. We seemed to have mostly the same options for dessert all week. At night we had fun with all the activities in the Bliss Lounge. Trivia at Gatzby's was also fun. In Bermuda we went to Horseshoe Bay the first day. We got a van for $7.00 per person each way and were dropped off right at the entrance. That night we went on the Gosling Sunset Cruise. It was lots of fun and even had a member of the Gosling family on board. The second day we went on the Rising Sun Catamaran. That was lots of fun and would highly recommend them. We were spoiled and got to see team USA sail past us on the way to a race. We also had the tall ships pass by on their way out of Bermuda. The last day in Bermuda we went to St. George. We didn't pre-plan something to do and ended up wandering around. I would not do that again. We took the free ferry from NCL there but the return trip at the time we wanted was cancelled due to high winds so we had to purchase tickets on a different ferry to get back to the ship. Back on board for the return trip to Boston we enjoyed the white party and relaxing on deck. We went to a couple shows, but nothing stood out as outstanding. We chose a later disembarkation time and had no problems getting off. My sister had purchased a candle on the island and it was held at a counter until we were just getting off the ship. That was a little stressful as you had to wait until the last minute to get it. We didn't realize it was on the list of banned items. But it makes sense, you don't want people lighting candles in the rooms. So just be aware if you buy candles this is what happens. Overall we had a wonderful trip and we would go again! Read Less
