This will be a very in depth review. First I will go over the bad...then I will go over the good. I cruised with about 45 people in our group. My wife was group leader of 20 cabins. These reviews are from all of us. BAD: The ship does not have a lot of entertainment. 1 theater, 1 small pool, plus a kids pool at the back of the ship. 1 club that plays the same music all the time. Same with the band, the band was good but played same music every day. Overall, we were very bored after 7 days. The casino is obviously rigged. They use auto card dealing and shufflers. We had a group of about 45 people, nobody left there up money. DO NOT gamble on a cruise ship. Cabin: We had a balcony. The room was small compared to Carnival's balcony cabin. We had to have a table removed because when the pullout bed was open, you could not get to the balcony. The bathroom was VERY small.....could barely move around. We had to dry off in the cabin because there was no room in the bathroom. The toilet was so small you had to be a skeleton to even fit on the toilet. I'm 5'10" 200lbs....and I barely fit in there. It was very uncomfortable using the bathroom. The bed was pretty comfortable. Balcony was good. Dining: The food on this ship should be quarantined. We have been on Carnival, Royal Carribean and Disney cruise lines. This was by far the WORST food in the history of cruises. Let me clarify. I'm talking about the main dining and the buffets they offer for breakfast and lunch. I will get to the specialty dining under my good review. We ate at the Aqua and Venetian main dining halls. The Aqua had crab cakes the first day...they were the best thing on the menu...so of course...they never had them again. Everything they served was VERY salty. That is coming from someone who LOVES salt. None of the main entrees were very good. They were at best average or below. The breakfast in Venetian was a joke. The pancakes were hard as a rock...the waffles came out cold. Coffee was horrible. I could go on and on. Service: The service on this cruise was laughable. We gave our room steward a 20 dollar tip the first day, so maybe she would be a little more attentive. That was a mistake. We had our 11 year old daughter in the room with us. On Carnival, she had a different towel animal on the bed every single day. This cruise she got maybe 3 out of the seven days and they weren’t even good ones. Whenever we saw her in the halls, she wouldn’t even say hi. We said hi first….it was like she was trying to avoid us. Somebody in our party asked her if she liked her job because she always seemed so miserable…she said no, I hate my job. Seriously????? We couldn’t believe she said that. We believe her because she seemed like she wanted to jump overboard every time we saw her. Her name was Flavia. She even yelled at one of our parties for asking her if she could clean her room around 3pm because she was sick all day. The rest of the crew weren’t much better. In the dining rooms they made us feel like we were bothering them. Trying to get a drink while dining was joke. It took about 20 minutes, so we started ordering 2 drinks at a time. They could barely understand us when we asked for something, we had to repeat ourselves a few times. The 11 year old ordered a ginger ale….they gave her a whiskey on the rocks. She said mommy this ginger ale tastes funny, so my wife tasted it…it was straight whiskey on the rocks….seriously???? The nicest wait staff person was HAPPY HAPPY WASHY WASHY….he was very good and also Wu Hoo from Cagneys steakhouse. Above and beyond. Other then that, total disappointment. I should request some of my included gratuities back for such poor service. Specialty dining: ABSOLUTELY DELICIOUS!!!!! We ate at the Tapanyaki, Itilain place(I forget the name) and Cagneys Steakhouse. Tapanyaki was VERY VERY good....I had steak shrimp and scallops. They gave me the scallops for free because it wasn't part of the combo. We couldnt even finish all our food it was so much. Chef was great. Italian place was very good...good service Cagneys was GREAT...the waiter Wu Hoo...yes thats his real name....went above and beyond...the food was perfect....we had our gratuities included but we gave him an extra tip because he was so good. Ports and Shore Excursions: Bermuda was AWESOME…I’ve never seen such crystal clear bright blue water in my life. It was truly gorgeous. Horseshoe Bay Beach was stunning. The beach was perfect the water and the views were amazing. We went on a jet ski tour at Somerset waterworks. The tour was great, got to swim with and feed the fish. Their business practice needs some work though. They tried charging my credit card because 2 people didn’t make the tour and they asked to join our group, so SWW decided to just put them under my credit card. I never authorized that. They told me to get the money from the person in my group who I didn’t really know that well. Needless to say, I filed a fraudulent charge with my bank. The caves were awesome. We hired a personal taxi to drive us around all day, he was awesome. We have 4 casino cruises coming up and we are not sure if we are going to use them after this experience. OVERALL. The cruise was fun, the ship was terrible. I will never sail on the Dawn again. Bermuda was awesome. Read Less

I have been on this ship quite a few times, as I am now a Platinum Latitude member. At the time of this sailing, I was Gold. Granted, the latitude rewards are not much, but this time I expected to have discounts for on board shopping and spa treatments, which should have amounted to me saving $150.00. I expected the issue to be resolved after speaking with my cabin steward, who looked into it. (Some free items like water and wine should have been brought to my room, and I noticed I didn't get them.) He politely told me to check with guest services. I did, and they told me they also "didn't have information regarding my latitudes status." So, apparently, it's my problem, according to NCL. Whatever they have in front of them on their computer at the time is what you get. I had expected to resolve this easily. I was wrong. I enjoy this cruise and did have a good time, but because this issue shouldn't have been an issue in the first place, I took off a few stars. I think NCL has serious issues regarding customer service. I've read many other reviews of complaints regarding customer service at the atrium lobby. Seems no one cares to resolve complaints of any kind when you try to speak with people there. I now see they had clear reasons to complain. I did find the crew everywhere else on this ship to be friendly and helpful. The food, entertainment and activities were, as always, very good. I could do without the constant nickle and diming of buying lottery scratch tickets, bonus bingo tickets, paying more for certain food items, even in the main dining rooms on the same menu. Unless you note the asterisk on the menu item, you won't know you're paying for it. How many times must that happen?! I have written my complaints to NCL. I would expect them to resolve this with a refund equal to the discounts I didn't get and should have. I really don't care about the things I should have gotten in my cabin, but I definitely should have gotten the priority disembark that would have meant being able to walk off the ship without being in any line. That took 1 1/2 hours! Bottom line? We'll see how NCL handles this. If they choose to ignore me, which I suspect will happen, I will likely not sail with NCL again. Read Less

We chose this cruise because it left from Boston and we could avoid flying. From the moment we boarded the ship, it was one disappointment after another. There were 3 of us in one cabin and when we booked, we were told the cabin had two twin beds and a pull out couch. There was no pull out couch, but a trundle under one of the twin beds. When we complained, we were told there was nothing they could do. The steward pulled out the trundle and we ended up sleeping side by side in 3 twin beds with no room on either side so we had to climb into bed on our hands and knees from the foot of the bed. We are senior citizens, 73-75 years old. Just picture it. The food was mediocre at best. People spoke highly of the Bamboo Restaurant, however we were never able to get it as they were totally booked from Day 1. The seafood they offered was very unusual, no cod, haddock or scallops, but rather fish like hake, perch, etc. The soups were not more than broth with a few veggies floating around. The most difficult thing was trying to navigate the ship. Not all elevators go to all floors so we kept having to walk around the ship to find an elevator that would go to deck 6 where the restaurants are located. Communication was poor and nothing was clearly marked. The most horrifying rip off was the beverage package. They say it's a free perk and you only have to pay a 20% gratuity. which I assumed was per drink. However the cost of the beverage package was $89.00 per PERSON per DAY!!!! So, we were "given" two beverage packages and had to pay $35.60 per DAY! No one could drink that much! The pool area was constantly crowded and the only adult pool was very small. It was impossible to get a lounge chair any day of the week. Near the pool area there was a barbeque place which served hamburgers, sausages, hot dogs, etc which were left under heating lights all day. There were some positives, the shows were all very good, the magic show was extraordinary. The service was OK although slow at times. Bermuda is beautiful and fortunately we booked our tours independently This was our third NCL cruise and I would NEVER go again. Read Less

I would really love to give this cruise 5 stars and I probably would have If guest services was not in the picture. I went with a wedding party with over 60 people. The food, entertainment and staff are all incredible. However, guest services is not. If you have an issue and have to rely on them, be prepared for nothing to happen and have to jump through hoops to get anything resolved. We had a broken safe in the room that was never fixed, more than half of the people in our party had incorrect or made up charges on their bills at the end of the cruise. I personally interacted with them about the charges: not only did we have made up charges and fees. This included reservations and spa treatments that were NEVER, WiFi charges when it was never activated, but also some in our party had been charged double charged for movies and other things. I wish I could say this was just me, but many people in our party had this problem. The worst part of all of it was that instead of even ATTEMPTING to resolve the issue, they make you run up and down the ship to chase down these other departments. We had to go back multiple times, was basically laughed at during the conversation and then told to "call guest relations" after the cruise.... it is pathetic. But hey, maybe they are in need of money now considering the bed bug situation that happened a week before our cruise... Customer service goes a long way. Again, everything else was great but this is something that ruins trips. Especially when you are stuck paying for things that you never used. It was completely unacceptable how they treated us as guests who paid a lot of money (as well as bring a lot of business) on this cruise. I work in hospitality for world class resorts and I have never experienced or would have allowed any of my employees do anything like this to a guest. I will never cruise with Norwegian again because of this. ***The only reason I am rating 'services' and 'on board experience' as terrible is because of the guest services team -- All other departments (bar, food, entertainment etc..) were fantastic. The food at the buffet was decent, the restaurant food was awesome! The cruise director is hilarious and the entertainment was amazing. Again, all staff (WITH THE EXCEPTION OF GUEST SERVICES) were fun to be around and easy to talk to.*** - The Cabin was great, the cleaning staff is very prompt and gets everything done quickly and always made our room look nice and welcoming. - Dining was fantastic. The buffet gets old but there are plenty of restaurants to choose from and all of them are great. They get pretty full but if you go early enough, you are able to get a reservation. The dining staff is very professional. - Embarkation - seamless. They make the process easy and as quick as possible. - Enrichment Activities - There is plenty to do while we were not in Bermuda, the sea days can be tough but the activity staff does a great job with filling your time if you are not a pool lounger. There was shuffle board, basketball courts, and even a small driving range. The bars are awesome and everywhere. MAKE SURE TO GO TO THE IRISH BAR - the staff is awesome! - Entertainment - I only participated in Deal or no deal, watched my brother and wife play the newly wed game (that was hilarious) and the comedian was hysterical - go to his "family friendly show" but do not miss his R-rated show at 10:30 PM. - Fitness and Recreation - as stated there is plenty to do, the health center is state of the art. - On-Board Experience - Read above, everything was honestly, perfect except for the guest services. It ruined a lot of our overall experience of the cruise and it was a unanimous decision that none of our (HUGE PARTY) will ever cruise with them again. - Public Rooms - it is very easy to meet new people and they have multiple places where lots of people gather. They are all clean and have nice comfy chairs to relax in if you are trying to get away from the sun. - Service - Read them entire thread. - Shore Excursions - We did snorkeling and scooters. It was a blast - make sure to read the notes about them in the next section. - Value for Money - I rated this as average because I feel like you pay a lot to be on this cruise, but they nickle and dime you at the end. You get a bill (and again, read above what could potentially happen to you) and basically no matter what it comes out of your account the next day. Read Less

Family get-Together for a 92nd birthday party. We encountered a lot of issues. 1)We paid for group photos. We were told that photos were no longer being printed But that we will be emailed our pictures so that WE can print them wherever at OUR convenience!! 2) we paid for an excursion, only to find out the night before, that they enclosed a note stating that we had to find transportation back from our destination, because we were going to be dropped off in Hamilton! They offered us a refund but we wanted to do the excursion and there was nothing else available so we had to PAY 3) a group of us were automatically charged 18% gratuity on a massage, we gave cash tip which resulted in the girl getting a $70 tip. We were told it could not be refunded because it was already charged to our room! 4) BED BUGS on the cruise before us on level 8!! How do you get rid of those is just a couple of hours 5) Hurricane Chris crossed our path. I guess that was the best thing to happen. LOL. They keep the pool closed and drained for 3 days!! 6) DRINKS and bartenders helped make trip much more happier for everyone including our 92 year old aunt who had her shot or two or baileys/kahlua Read Less

We took the cruise on the Dawn out of Boston because of the ease of getting to the port and because of the price of the cruise. There were several sales and we felt like it was a good deal for the vacation. The old saying "you get what you pay for" rings true here. We thought that even though the ship had been refurbished, it still had an odd lay out and was cramped. Dinner- Having a reservation for dinner means nothing. We still had to wait in line at least 20 min, and at one time 45 min for a table. The common area in front of the elevators is the waiting area for the main dining rooms and it gets crowded and people start to get mean when getting in line and waiting. (Cutting mainly) The MDR food was ok. There were a few good dishes, but mostly just ok. Nothing special or overly gourmet. We felt like add on's were pushed... bottled water, more wine, etc.... We tried to schedule the Pay restaurants but they were all booked for normal eating times. We could have gone at 9pm but that's not our thing. Buffet- a step down from Golden Corral. They did have several fancy dishes- but they all were just blah. Hamburger meat was off a bit. Tasted like very low quality beef. Mexican night, no melted cheese? Ran out of guacamole early? oh well. The cleanliness of the area was amazing. There were multiple staff clearing tables and cleaning. That was a plus! Customer service and Security- We had a security issue on the ship that was not taken seriously until we complained for 4 days about it. This was probably the most disappointing part of the trip. We felt that customer service replayed the basic script back to us over and over again. "Oh! You have a problem? We are so sorry. We are looking into it." Well, they weren't. We were finally able to talk to someone in security 4 days after the incident, and to their credit, they took care of the problem to our satisfaction. Pool- The adult pool area is nice with 4 hot tubs situated around the corners. Another deck up top for view of the pool and ocean. It was packed except dinner times and island days. Kids Pool- when it was opened it was packed. So very, very full of people. Most of whom ignored the "no kids in diapers" rule. Ick. Spa- Nice area with a nice thermal suite. Kids club- Wonderful people and activities. Our kids liked it and had a good time when they went. Room- Our room was an inside cabin. We felt like it was a bit dark, but I suppose that is to be expected with no window. The mattress was comfortable! The linens and towels were showing their wear. There were holes in almost all of them. Our cabin steward seemed over worked and mentioned to us every time we saw him in the hallway that he had "all of these rooms" gesturing down the hallway. We never asked for anything special and then after getting his talk several times, we ended up just taking our towels to him to exchange so he didn't have to do turn-down service for us every day. I didn't appreciate being made to feel bad about his work load, but we were a bit sympathetic and tried to be good guests as well. Activities- There seemed to be a lot to do. They had several demonstrations or something always going on in the Atrium area too. There was always a pool party at night, and the party moved inside to Bliss when it got late. We did not have a chance to go see the shows. Bar- The Ultimate Beverage Package was a good deal, but unfortunately, it made for a very drunk trip for a lot of people. We have never seen so many stumbling drunk folks. I joked that we were on a Carnival cruise because of all the drunk people. They start early, and it's an annoyance all day. Overall a good time because we chose to look past these faults and make our trip good anyway. We love the 3 days in Bermuda, and we just thought of the sea days there and back something we had to go through to enjoy our Bermuda time. Next time we will probably go with a different cruise line, or just fly. Read Less

We enjoyed exploring Boston before cruising down to Bermuda. Let me start with saying that we had a very poor experience for a cruise that was fairly expensive. The embarkation and disembarkation was very slow and poorly organized. The ship had a very strong smell of cigarettes within a floor or two of the Cigar bar. Along with that, the upper deck almost always smelled like smoke when by the pool or food area. There were two nights where we had to have someone re-route the air in our room because it smelled like smoke. The entertainment was fair at best and most of it was geared towards Norwegian making more money and not entertainment. The only good part about this ship was dining in the Italian restaurant or the Mexican restaurant. Both of these places did a fabulous job and cared about the people sitting to eat. Bermuda was a great port and the only reason we didn't really hate this cruise. This is just a little glimpse into everything that wasn't great and the few items we found to be wonderful. As a side note, the cruise director dingo dave was not very nice and didn't even acknowledge people at times including us. Read Less

Previously did this same itinerary with the Dawn and loved it, this time extremely disappointed. The servers in Bamboo where not friendly, threw the menus at us when we sat, never smiled, just dropped the plates and walked away. The food in Garden Cafe was terrible, felt it was the same selections day after day. The Spa staff and service was excellent. The room and cabin staff was fabulous, room very clean, staff attentive and friendly. Not enough staff on deck during the day, had to go to the bar to order drinks, long lines at bar. Also, people would hold chairs on deck all day long and never use them, frustrating when you where looking for a seat and there were none. Not as many activities by the pool during the day as in the past. Don't know if I would try Norwegian Cruise line again, food last couple of cruises has been horrible, and they seem to be cutting back on the amount of staff. Read Less

I went on the Norwegian Dawn with my entire extended family for a celebration of my great aunt’s 80th birthday. All together we had a group of 19 people in 9 separate stateroom ages ranging from 80 to 1.5 years old. Nearly all of the group had been on Norwegian’s Boston to Bermuda cruise at least once prior, many of us more than that. We all unanimously agreed that the standards on the ship have gone way down over the years. The boarding process: even with priority boarding the lines were long and the system was far from smooth. None of the staff at the pier seemed to know what the safety regulations are in terms of security, and if you asked the same question of two different staff members, you would always get a different answer. Overall it was extremely unorganized. Once we got on to the ship, we were led to our state room, a family suite with a balcony. The room still had the dirty towels from the previous guests on the floor in the bathroom. The complimentary toiletries were clearly open and had been used as well. We alerted the crew to this and they said they would get to it when they could, which took over two hours. I understand that it is a very large ship and they have a very short turn over times between disembarkation and the new passengers boarding, but I would much prefer to be told my stateroom isn’t ready yet than to be brought to a dirty room. In the room we had three adults and a toddler. There was a king size bed, a pull out couch and a Murphy bed in the room that were made up each night so each adult had their own bed. For my son, the ship provided a pack and play crib. Luckily prior to going I had done some research about tips for cruising with a toddler because they only have a flat sheet on top of the crib mattress that any toddler will move in two seconds and I doubt those mattresses get cleaned very often, so I brought my own crib sheet from home which worked great. I also brought him a blanket from home as well since they do not provide those. Once the room was cleaned and set up it was quite nice. The bathroom was huge and had both a tub (great for toddler baths) and a stand up shower. There was an ample amount of closet space for the four of us. And the balcony was large enough for two chairs and a small table, two lounge chairs and still enough room for my son to play on the floor. The Murphy bed and pull out couch were not very comfortable, but that is to be expected. The king size bed was pretty comfortable. One big problem with the rooms is noise. The family suites are located on the 12th floor right between the elevators/stairs and the pool. This made for some pretty heavy foot traffic, and a lot of congregating outside of our room. The doors are paper thin and you can hear everything and multiple times at night we had to open the door and ask people to move along as there was a toddler sleeping in the room. Because of the location of the room, every morning to go to breakfast in the garden cafe, we had to walk through the smoking area. In addition to being less than pleased to have stale cigarette smoke blown in my face first thing in the morning, I was less than thrilled with having my toddler walk through all that second hand smoke every morning. In my opinion, people should not be allowed to smoke in such a highly traveled area. You couldn’t even go in the pool without the stench of cigarettes. Moving on to the ship. The pool area, specifically the pool itself, is way too small for a ship of that size. If you want to go in the water, you can’t even move there are so many people in there. The music at the pool is extraordinarily loud. I love laying in a lounge chair and listening to the live music, but you couldn’t even enjoy it because it was so incredibly loud (and all you could smell was cigarettes). At the pool bars I never once saw more than two bartenders at a time, which seemed odd to me as they were definitely the busiest bars on the ship. Also, compared to past cruises, overall, I found the bar tending staff to be much less friendly than before. The staff at the garden cafe was exceptionally friendly. This actually became our favorite place to eat a meal due to the great variety and the staff. The sit down restaurants, the Venetian and Aqua were just so, so in terms of the food, but the service there was always so extraordinarily slow that it always took over two hours for a meal, usually closer to three. We did three specialty meals, Churriscaria, Tempennyaki, and Chaney’s. All of those were excellent. Service again was a tad slow, but the food more than made up for it. We ate at O’Sheehans one night as well, the food was very greasy, and again, service was very slow. It took 25 minutes for two beers! The wine cellar bar was by far my favorite. The selection of wine was exceptional, it was never too crowded and the staff there was excellent. Most of the entertainment we participated in was for the little one. He was too young to participate in most of the children’s programming (which I knew going in), but we did go to the guppies playroom a few times when it was raining. It was nothing spectacular, just a small room with some age appropriate toys, but it was nice to have. On our first day at sea, we woke up, got all ready to go to the kids Dino pool (my son loves dinosaurs) and went over to the pool (which is pretty difficult to get to, it is in the way back of the ship and you have to either go through the gym or the arcade to get there) and it was closed. This was around 10:30am. We asked a staff member when it would be open, and he told us noon. We went back around 12:15, still closed. I called the front desk and was told 12:30. Went back at 1:05, still closed. Called the front desk again, they told me it would be open at 1:00. When I told them it was past 1:00 they told me 1:30. At this point I asked them why it was closed and they told me for some routine maintenance. When we came back at 1:30 it was STILL CLOSED. I called the desk again and they told me it would be 2:00. This time I asked if anything was broken or if there is a safety issue and they said no, it was just routine maintenance. I asked them why, if it was routine, they couldn’t do it on a day when we were in port and there were various other things for small children to do. They just kept repeating that they were doing maintenance. They took down my room number but I made the point of telling them that it was not just me and every time I went back to the pool there were numerous families with young kids trying to come back and use the pool when they told them it would be open. Children this age are not old enough to understand that the pool is closed and why and it was not right to keep having them go back and get all excited about it only to be disappointed again. Never once did they apologize. As I said, they took down my room number, but never did or said anything about it again. We didn’t try going back to the pool again until the next day, and my son LOVED the water slides. We went to the pool every day when we were at sea and he never wanted to leave. We went to trivia a few time, which was fun, but short. Other than that, the only other activity we participated in was a wine tasting, which was well worth the $20 participation fee. The island of Bermuda was awesome, as usual. We did one shore excursion, the rising son snorkel cruise, which was great. Other than that we explored the island on our own, taking the complimentary ferry to St. George’s and using the bus system to navigate the island. Getting on and off the ship was a breeze, and we even docked about an hour a fifteen minutes ahead of schedule on our first port day. Overall, while we had a good time, this was the worst cruise I have been on. The service has definitely gone downhill over the years and the food was nothing to write home about. The activities available were not very interesting, and the pool was way too small. Read Less
