We chose this cruise because two couples in our party had never cruised before. We were able to keep the expenses lower without having to add air. Our embarkation experiences went as we expected and our sail away was entertaining. Having sailed before on Norwegian Majesty and several times on Celebrity Cruises, I was disappointed with many of the services offered by Norwegian Dawn. The ratio of staff to passengers was very disappointing. Everyone in our party had purchased a beverage package. We should of saved our dollars. It was near impossible to get someone to take our drink orders on deck by the pool. The wait at the outside bar was ridiculously long. It was easier to get a hot dog or an ice cream. The Venetian Dining room was way too crowded for the size of the room. There was no room to safely take a seat or leave the table we were assigned to sit. One of the couples in our party experienced flooding issues in their shower/bathroom. They ended up having to take their showers in our shower. They notified their room steward each day without success. Finally, they went to Customer Service to again report this problem of flooding. They were rudely told that this issue was their fault and they did not adequately state the nature of their problem to their Housekeeping. This is unacceptable of Norwegian in my opinion. Lastly, the process for disembarkation is seriously flawed. We learned while traveling in the exit line that 120 cabins had no bathroom facilities in their cabin available for most of their 7 day cruise. Crossing Norwegian off our list for future cruises. We took this same cruise last year on a very tired ship. We were told she was scheduled for a refit and figured it would be nice to see the changes. The ship was very nicely updated BUT was staffed with a new crew! The boarding process in Boston was horrendous. Two hours from cab arrival to the gangplank. A watering station along the Bataan Death March like check in would have been nice. Why do we preprint docs? Why aren't the medical declarations part of that process? Why can't computer literate folks be given the option of affixing a photo to their online check in information? It would have sped up the check in process! Ship left late, no reason given. First full day in Bermuda was a national holiday and every store in Hamilton was shuttered and closed! Yet NCL failed to pass this along to their guests! Many shelled out for ferry fares to downtown for nothing! When the staff was alerted to this oversight early in the morning, the info was still not broadcast to the ships residents! Entertainment appears to be a victim of the bean counters BUT the food was better then last year! Cagney's was by far the best but the free offerings at Venetian as well as Aqua were pleasant BUT the waitstaff were out of synch! We were disappointed but will give them another chance next year unless the prices are out of sight for June! The America's Cup trials and finals will take place in Bermuda in June 2017! Read Less

This was very first cruise ever. I planned this family vacation to celebrate my Husband and I's 20th anniversary, Fathers Day and my sons acceptance to College in the Fall. We were very excited to be on our first cruise together hoping for many more. Much to my disappointment I could not wait to get off the ship from the first day. It started at the baggage check in. They had no manifest to assist with checking in our luggage. Finally waiting for that we are able to get on board after a long wait inside. We get on the boat 2 1/2 hours in 1 line for parental consent for my son and our room key did not work. back and forth 3 times for that. I asked for 1 full or queen bed in one room and twin beds in the other room. Nope 2 twin beds! Great way to start off my anniversary trip sleeping apart. This should bring partners closer together, no, just another frustration. 20 minutes in line for 1 drink at a time. ridicules. Lost our luggage had to back in line to claim luggage, only 1 bag was found they had to track down the 8 other bags and bring them to my room by 9pm after i missed a show I wanted to see but missed because of incompetent people. they never found our suits we planned to wear for our special anniversary. cried myself to sleep the first night. They allow people to put towels across every chair on the deck to save seats they wont be in for hours. That should not be allowed. If they want them they should be there. I felt like I was at an amusement park waiting in lines all day. Why dont they serve you? even in some restaurant I watched people walk by me and no one came to service us. I one time pulled the manager standing around if we could order at least an appetizer he brought it to me I never saw him again I never got my room key back and had to go the next day to the desk again, stand in line for another room key because I could not get proper service at the restaurant. For a vacation I spent a lot of money for I thought we would be served better than that? I had to do it all myself and WAIT everywhere we went. Casino ding a bell for 20 minutes at a table! Come on!!! What am I paying for? The weather is out of your control but the rain did not help calm down frustration with the trip. Alan was very nice but at the end of the day I will never Cruise again. I had high expectations to have a nice relaxing vacation but was only more aggravated when I got off the ship than when I got on. i was extremely disappointed. What a wasted money pit. Read Less

My wife and I had gone on another cruise and after that trip, I told my wife that it would be our last. usually when on a cruise, I feel like I am on a schedule and always waiting in line to do something. My wife had won the cruise so that was the only reason that I had agreed to go. the overall trip was very nice and we had enjoyed our time but overall, I was disappointed with the quality of food and entertainment. We basically had the same type of food every day and compare to the other cruise, entertainment was poor. We had also purchased the beverage package but waiting in line at the bars or waiting for someone to take our order seems to take forever. This was our last cruise, never again, even if it is free. Our group was 15 people in 5 different rooms. Let me first say that my family and I have cruised before some of us more than 3+ times on other Cruise lines. We are all pretty laid back average type people. Ages of our group were from 3yrs old up to 65. Most of the adults are 35-42 years old. We are not big complainers or high maintenance people! We paid over 3k for our balcony room and 2,100 for my mothers cabin with no balcony. This does not include the $13.50 a day PER PERSON in gratuities. Do the math and that comes to approx $400 for 4 people. Although this charge is normal for cruises it was not deserved by many of the crew on this boat. I have been happy to pay that and more on past cruises. The boat itself including the rooms were very small and we had a mid ship balcony room. The beds were horrible and felt like we were sleeping on a stack of wood with a blanket over the top. EVERYONE had the same feedback including strangers I spoke to on the boat. The food was below average in the cafe and just average in the Venetian. The kids camp looked like a pre-school and really only catered to ages 5 and under so my 9 year old daughter was with us the entire time. (VERY DISSAPOINTED WITH THAT ONE)!!!! She was bored much of the time and this was our vacation and I was hoping to spend time with my wife....alone! We had "UBP" Unlimited beverage package. Means any drink you want....$11 and under are free and unlimited. #1 - they do not include water!? I assumed if I could get a $11 drink that I could easily get a small bottle of water! Nope...you want a bottle of water....$5 bucks each! We also had to wait on average 10-15 minutes for drinks anywhere on the ship. That was just on average, many times the wait was much longer. The bartenders were all very slow to serve anyone anything and they were ALWAYS under staffed, no matter what room you were in. We also had to fill out a receipt every single time we got a drink of any kind.....that was ridiculous and took forever, not to mention for a cruise line that touts itself as "green" and protects the ocean etc....how many trees did they go through with 3k people on board getting a receipt for every little thing. Isn't that what our room cards are for? The only place you can get anything to eat after 10pm is the Blue Lagoon restaurant. Their menu is EXTREMELY limited and the food is poor in taste and presentation. The staff is quite rude. No smiles, no hospitality and basically acted like they do not want you there. Again, same feedback from our group and past comments on this site. For me, spending over 5k for 4 people we expected a much better experience. We would love to cruise again but quite positive it will never be on this boat! Unless you get a great price on this boat I would not recommend it. Read Less

The pool area was a huge disappointment with people reserving deck chairs at 6 am and nobody enforcing any rules left zero opportunity to get a chair or even go in the pool. The dining room food was excellent, but the buffet did not change much and was blah, and the soft serve machine never seemed to be working. The entertainment was also difficult to get into because of overcrowding. Cabin was very small, we usually go with a balcony, but they were full. Many times I had to tell staff towels were out in bathrooms even though the sign in sheet on door said it was just inspected. Ship is in need of work, much of the decking needs to be replaced and I found many things broken or not working. My sons 17 and 19 still had a great time. Read Less

We took the Dawn out of Boston this summer to Bermuda. That was the great part, we had a short distance to travel to get there. However, at the terminal I had to hand off my bags to a worker and my son asked if we should tip him. I was in a rush, so I said,"no, he just put it on a cart." Another worker was standing there and said "if you want to see your bag again, you better tip him". Unfortunately I smiled and kept going. Well guess whose bag didn't come to the room. After 3 calls to the front desk, they said they were still sorting luggage. Everyone elses bags had been delivered. I finally got fed up, went to the front desk and insisted on going to the room with the "extra luggage." There was my bag with the tags ripped off. Ok I should have tipped him. Next came the bar fiasco. I had gone online and gotten my son the drink package before we left. I printed out the receipt. When we got on the ship he didn't have a symbol on his room key that he could get free drinks. We spent the first day going back and forth to the front desk who did absolutely nothing for us.They called our bank and it was Saturday so the bank was closed. The head front desk guy gave me the option of paying again for the drink package or not at all. I also discovered the first day that the dining package we were supposed to get was not given to us either. This was not a good start to the cruise. We are platinum members of the latitudes club meaning we have cruised numerous times with Norwegian. Obviously we have enjoyed our previous cruises enough to keep coming back. When we got to Bermuda they were preparing the ship each day for dry dock later this year. What that meant was they were drilling and sanding and banging everyday. I called the front desk because we could not stand to go out on our balcony. Honestly it was like being in the dentists office with drills going. Things fell off the roof into the water below and part of the ceiling fell down. The front desk would only say they were aware of the noise. I can't tell you how many times I had to go to the front desk or how many times I had to call them. NCL gives a cocktail party for latitude members. This time they split it up. The first cocktail party for all latitude members was nice, they passed drinks around and had appetizers passed by the staff. The officers were there. They then had a second cocktail party for only gold and platinum members. You could get one glass of wine or beer and they had cheese cubes on a table. After 30 mins the staff started clearing out the room for Bingo. It was obvious that NCL valued the newer members over those that had sailed many times with them before. I will say the food was better this time around. The bar service not so much. I'm not sure if it is because of the drink packages, but there were never any bar staff around to take drink orders, you had to go wait in line at the bar. I was so distraught over this trip that I wrote to NCL. My response? I was told that they checked with the front desk log and there was no notation that I had ever complained about anything. Isn't that great. The staff doesn't write stuff down because they don't want corporate knowing guests were unhappy. I was furious. I wrote back and stated that I was being made to feel like a liar. I gave them the persons name who I spoke to (over 10 times). I did get a call back from one of the PR people apologizing. So beware, if you make a complaint on an NCL cruise. make sure you get confirmation that they have written it down in the log. There are 40 of us going on a cruise in February- if things do not improve- this will be my last cruise with NCL. Quite frankly I don't think they are committed to customer service anymore. Read Less

This was our 5th time sailing with NCL...it may be our last. This ship was by far the worst. We should have sailed for Bermuda out of NYC instead of Boston. It is not that the Dawn is an older ship (although the beds were terrible.) The staff on this ship just do not seem to care. Then ordering dinner in the Venetian or Aqua the waiters attitude towards you quickly changes once you tell them you won't need anything from the bar (no automatic tip.) The only announcements during the day were for the Casino, bingo, lottery tickets, ect. Things that bring in more cash for the ship. Our cabin steward was very good. He changed towels twice a day and was a good source of what was going on that day. Asked him to empty the minibar the first day and it as done by the time we got back from dinner. Get up at 6 am if you want a chair near the pool. I watched chairs go unused all day. One guy not only covered his groups chairs with towels but brought out some clothing and a book to lay across the chairs to keep them "on hold." That was at 7am and his group never did show....we left after 1pm. We had two excursions planned. Sundays was cut short because the ship arrived at 1pm instead of 11am. Paid for a 4 hour tour which only lasted 3. The second excursion was to horseshoe beach on Wednesday.. It was raining but they would not tell you the bus was cancelled until everyone purchased 3.00 ponchos and stood out in the rain. That was at 10:30am. They did the same thing to the second group which was scheduled an hour or so later. Sold them more 3.00 ponchos. What a way to rip off your guests. When we got back from the Sunday tour I informed the Excursion desk that our tour was cut short. Young lady took our cabin number and said she would look into the matter. On Thursday evening I returned to the Excursion desk and again explained to a young man this time what had happened and that I never heard back. He asked us to wait and went behind a partition where the girl from Sunday was. She came out and stated she did not hear back from the tour driver yet??? and there was little she could do. This being the last night of the cruise I asked to speak to her manager. Her manager then came out from behind the same partition! He was rude and acted like I was robbing him for asking for 25% refund on the cost of the excursion. I will think long and hard before I sail with NCL again. This was my first cruise and most likely my last. The cruise was filled to capacity to include 600 kids. At age 18 if a guardian signed off the 18 year old could drink and they hung out in groups with no supervision. The staff being over polite would not address the unruly teenagers or kids to include taking over many activities they should not have been in attendance at. The pool areas were not large enough to accommodate the amount of passengers that wanted to be on the decks (12&13) Therefore if you did not stake out a table or lounge and put your belongings on it by 8:30 a .m. ( which many did and did not use the lounge or tables for hours) then you were stuck inside. The only other deck besides around the pool that had lounges were on deck 7 and there were a total of 12 chairs. You could not sit out on any other decks so I and my family ended up inside the ship and not by choice unless I wanted to stand up if I was outside and the point of the trip was to enjoy the weather on the open sea and the beautiful views. The buffet was consistent but eating at the two restaurants included in the package were excellent and worth making reservations for the week in advance. I did purchase the spa package to include two speciality hot tubs a sauna room, relaxation room and pool for $139.00 with only 80 memberships being sold for the week. They added an additional 12 and did not mention it was completely enclosed from the outdoors. At least I got a lounge chair in there! I ended up being discouraged then as the week went on irritated that there was nowhere to sit outside leaving me limited to hang out in the cafeteria, a lobby area, bar or my room.. not the vacation I had planned. The only nice thing about the cruise was Bermuda and the entertainment. The food was below average. The ship was understaffed. The bar line ups was ridiculous and it was a rarity for a server to come around to take drink orders. The ship was full of children running around and out of control. You couldn't get into any of the hot tubs because it was always full of children even in the adult area. There was never any staff to enforce rules and so it felt like I was at a carnival setting. There were never any chairs because the ship allowed people to save chairs for invisible guests that never showed up. Even when we went to reserve a chair at 7 a.m. the were already taken. Clearly guests were paying staff to safe their chairs. It was not a relaxing or enjoyable vacation by any means. There was always line ups to get into the restaurants. There was no security or staff monitoring at all. Children/toddlers siting in the bar lounge areas. Very loud and out of control. The ship itself needs a face lift. Disembarking was the worst I've ever experienced and I've been on a number of cruises. In all it took us 3 hours to go through customs (in the ship). All the "foreigners (non American)" were told to go to a place for customs inspections. The instructions given were ridiculous as was the whole process. We were made to feel like refugees. The cruise markets it self as being "carefree and casual", its more like a circus - anything goes. I would not recommend this cruise to any of my friends. Read Less

We just took our first NCL cruise out of Boston on the Dawn. I will never sail with this cruise line again. The service was horrible took an hour to check in at Black Falcon Terminal the woman checking us in could not see our passports she kept trying to figure out the difference between my husband and my son (one is 50 the other is 16). Finally she put on some reading glasses and still could not see. Finally we get on board and I go to get a drink only for the staff to tell me I am under age on my card had to go to guest services to fix that problem another line to stand in. Well we got to Bermuda and they had to close the pool someone had soiled in it, the only pool on board, and it was closed the entire 3 days in Bermuda no compensation what so ever. If I am in Bermuda in July my children want to swim when we were on board. The bar service was horrible every where on the ship. They had 1 server at Java Cafe so trying to get a coffee was next to impossible. They need more wait staff I ordered a soda by the pool from 2 different waiters and it took nearly an hour to get it. The GREAT service we did have was from our cabin steward he was wonderful and totally deserves a raise but am sure he will not get. The fees are ridiculous 12.95 dollars per day per person and the staff doesn't see much or any of it. Read Less

Coffee with Baileys and Kahlua $18 and change BEFORE gratuity? Really? Some beers $9.50 Really? But this one took the cake. Pool bar on deck 12 had some very poor service. It was fine when few people were there but when things got busy most folks waited between 10-25 minutes for a drink, this from a company that makes huge profits selling alcohol. We didn't buy the super duper alcohol beverage package and boy were we glad. I bet those that did wished they hadn't. Service in the lounges was also horrible at best if there were people there. The hidden gem for us was the sushi bar because rarely was it busy and we NEVER waited to get in. Also they have Sapporo beer at that one bar. $12.95 service charge per day per guest, really? Norwegian needs to really rethink moving service people around the ship as crowds move around the ship, even depending on weather. Also many of the guests were very loud and obnoxious, constantly yelling across the buffet at their kids. It got old very quickly. Next time I'll go back with Carnivore or try another line. Read Less

Being from the greater Boston area, riding on the ship without flight or long drive was a plus for locals. The boarding was long lengthy wait, specially hard for my 2 years old. We had mini-suite on 11th floor. The room was great, good view, and reasonable size for 2 adults and 2 kids. You can tell the room needs some update, but was clean generally. I wish the room steward to be more mindful, e.g. cleanup the glass on the balcony, cleanup the salt deposit on the rails more often. I cannot see through the glass on the balcony during most of the time. The rain did help a few times. The room steward did not consistently cleanup every day. Sometime he did clear the mess, sometimes he may left some sand on the table. We explored the ship, overall it is bit old, but still beautiful. There are a lot activities from all ages. The shows in the stardust theatre were great. We love all the performances, and the wonderful staffs. Most of the service staffs in room or general restaurants were just doing their job. They did greet to guests, but many of them not even staring at you. One morning, when we had breakfast, the waiter did not even look at me when he led me to my seat. Most of the waiters/waitresses look unhappy, maybe they are over-worked. At the bar next to the pool, I waited long while 4 people ahead of me, but only 2 guys were trying to fill their orders. After waiting their for a few minutes, I decided to go to my room to end the day. It seems generally that the ship is somewhat understaffed. The reception girls in the main dining room were so busy watching the computers, seem to be stressful. I felt bad for them. We did visit a few specialty restaurants, we love the Cagneys and Le Bistro are the best. Service staffs in those specialty restaurants are very good. The Italian and Brazilian restaurants were just so so. The dis-embarkation was a nightmare, as non-citizen, I had to stay in the 6th floor restaurant to get passport validated. It took about 1 hours. When I asked the staff if they would allow me move to the front of the line as my baby was not cooperative (she is the youngster in the line). The staff looked at me, and ask ME to discuss with the people around me. Luckily the people ahead of me allowed me to move forward, a big favor from fellow guests. After that, you have to wait in the line again with everyone to get off the ship. All these make a non-citizen at least 90 minutes waiting time to get off. I have to give them the credit that, when you are waiting for passport validation, the room has coffee and snacks. It helps to kill time in the morning. We had very good weather on all 3 port days. Bermuda is great place to summer vacation. I will visit Bermuda again in the future, but for sure will not board Dawn again. Read Less

The Norweigan Dawn as said in other reviews is a little tired and has some issues throughout the cruise. To begin with on deck 12 where the pool is is quite small the size of the pool is really small and there is absolutely no way that there was enough room for the majority of the cruisers to enjoy themselves. Along with the pool being to small while walking around throughout the cruise there is spots on the floor where it is bubbled so when you step on those spots you feel the floor drop/pop. I am pretty sure that it is not supposed to do that. The next complaint I had while on board the Norwegian Dawn was that the service was awful throughout the majority of the cruise. To begin with, I had a question about the hours of the miniature golf place that was located in the port where we were docked and not one person seemed to know anything about it. Like seriously! I can understand if it was somewhere else on the island but it is just a hop and a skip from the ship. The next service complaint I had was about the dining service this cruise is the first cruise that my family has been on where it is freestyle and we were not pleased at all. The Aqua restaurant is horrendous we had some nights where we had to call over the Maitre D just to get bread for our table and try to order something for drink besides water and not from the bar such as lemonade or iced tea good luck you will get your food first. The Aqua dining room does not require pants at any point of the cruise so many choose to go there but trust me bring pants and ware them on Sat and Wed the two Formal nights by choice and you will be all set to go to the Venetian Restaurant, which is also free and gorgeous, for the entirety of your cruise. The service out blows the aqua. Also a hint if you find a waiter or waitress you really like you may reserve them for a 5:00 or 8:30 sitting but if you ask enough and your waiter is not available for the 5 sitting the hostess may allow you to reserve a 5:30 sitting. I had absolutely no problems with the housekeeping staff at all my room steward Dennis was phenomenal and my parents had liked theirs also. The only problem I had was on Thursday night when the toilet in my room got clogged and it took over three hours for them to resolve the issue. It was not my steward either he reported it twice and I did once by calling 00 the engineering department took forever. The only good thing is that they fix it from out side your room some how in the guts of the ship so no one ever has to com in to your room. The Embarkation of the ship was really easy and the rooms were ready before the projected time but on the other hand the Disembarkation was a little confusing and customs at the port of Boston is the easiest customs we have ever gone through. My family has been on three cruises prior all on carnival and all three of them blow this cruise out of the water. Our next cruise will be back on carnival for sure. Read Less

I have been on the cruise to Bermuda from NYC on another Norwegian ship and thought it would be very similar. Very wrong! I never had bad service on the previous cruise. On my most recent cruise out of Boston on the Dawn, service was terrible. The wait staff overall was very inattentive and unmotivated. This was seen in at least two of the restaurants and three of the bars. We felt like we had to beg to get a drink. We had to keep a lookout for a server and then wave them down a couple of times before they would actually take your order. I hate being ignored at a bar. Going to the bar yourself was frustrating as well since the service was just as bad. Would have felt cheated if I had actually bought the beverage package. Boston's trip gets you to Bermuda Sunday morning but most of the island isn't open on that day so is somewhat of a waste. Shore excursions are all great. Between the two cruises, have gone to Horseshoe Bay, done the island tour by minibus, snorkel and sailed on catamaran, toured famous homes and hideaways, and night cruise on glass bottom boat. Bermuda itself was lovely as usual and I would be happy to go there again. Needless to say, it won't be on the Dawn (which is sad since I live in Boston). Read Less

Sailed on Norwegian Dawn from Boston-Bermuda 6/5/2015. Rated the cruise subpar based mainly on the cramped stateroom and the problems that we needed to report during our trip. Our room (#4600) was on the lowest level and was a cramped 159 square feet. During the trip we reported 3 separate occasions of the toilet overflowing and flooding the bathroom floor and a 4th report of it not flushing at all. There was also a continuing issue with the sink stopper being literally impossible to pull up after pushing it down to retain water for shaving etc. The room was advertised as having an ocean view which was a laughable porthole that more properly belongs on a submarine. Would definitely recommend viewing the stateroom accommodations on the Norwegian website before booking. We tried to upgrade our room a week before the cruise but the cruise was sold out by then. Weather going to Bermuda was chilly and overcast but improved after arriving in Bermuda. We ate in the Venetian and Aqua restaurants for most of our meals. Staff was very accommodating and meals were very good. Shows were very good to excellent. Four members of our party of 10 came down with pneumonia, bronchitis, or swollen glands the day we returned to Boston or a day or so afterward. Unfortunately, there doesn't appear to be anyway of determining if other passengers had similar symptoms. Read Less

I came back from Bermuda which I go to every year as I love Bermuda more than any other caribbean island. The Dawn was the worse ship I ever been on peroid. About 7 years ago I went on it and wasent so bad. Still my favorite is Celebrity Cruise Line. Not one, let me say again NOT one staff said hello to me or helped me out with my parents who are disabled and use walkers through out the ship and Dad who also uses a wheel chair. Could not even help me with their plates up in the buffet or drinks like coffee or cold drinks. They stopped serving shrinp in the dinning rooms for supper as a starter, so if you like your shrimp cocktail you will not get it. NO more lobster, or Baked Alaska.... just to name a few favorites. Food was not good at all. Cold, and not much to pick from up in the buffet. I have never been one a ship where you dont get a hello, or have a nice day from your cabin stewards etc. The only good thing I can say is the shows were excellent! I got 2 bottles of wine because of my complaining about things I should have gotten but did not. I will never go on this ship again and most of all it was more than Celebrity or Holland America which are both wonderful cruise lines with wonderful food.I can go on and on about all that was wrong but dont want to write a book here. The ship was dirty, people in my family got sick a few different times. Just horrible. If you are a new cruiser than you will not find any problems cause you know any better but for people like me, never again. I only went back on this ship cause my parents won it at Foxwoods but it would not have been my choice at all. NO ONE ent out of their way for anything. Oh and the bingo last to days they say you will win 4000 or 5000. No way....... it was only 1000. So they lied to all the bingo players.People were pissed off all right. No one cares about their job on this ship and it sure showed. NCL you have gone down hill, never again. They have some of the smallest cabins, also get this my brother booked 4 in a cabin cause they had the promo going on, 3 & 4 in a cabin go free just pay sales tax, well they have NO 2 uppers . They only have 1 upper and 3 lowers thats right, on the whole ship and in rooms to hold 4 in a cabin theirs a small cot they take out that hides under one of the lowers. so if you like sleeping like 3 in a queeh size go right ahead. The Dawn and Spirit both are set up like this so beware!!!!!!!! so why dont NCL tell you this ahead of time my brother and family almost walked off the ship the day of departure. Not only that. but their bottom bed looked like someone was sleeping on the top sheets, and had a big yellow stain on it which was disgusting, when he asked the cabin steward about this he didnt know what to say. 3 people had to come in and show him how to make up a bed. All in all I can go on and on. Dont waste your money if you have cruised many times before, you will NOT be happy. First time cruising is ok. I had a mud slide frozen drink, $10.78 plus the 18% guartuity was added on to that and i seen the bartender use a one small shot glass and put all three liquaiors in it talk about cheap all it tasted like was cold ice milk. Hello. I sailed on the cruise on the Dawn from Boston to Bermuda from 5/29-6/5. On the evening of 5/29, a passenger apparently was injured, which necessitated the ship turning around and going back to Boston. Because of this, we lost what amounted to almost a full day in Bermuda. We arrived in Bermuda after 9pm on Sunday, with hardly anything open, and no public transportation running. When complaints were made to the front desk, they immediately reminded us that we signed off on Norwegian being able to change the itinerary due to unforeseen events. I get why, from a business perspective, they led with that fact. But I've worked in Customer Service for close to 15 years now, and from a customer standpoint, that is not acceptable. Bobby, our cruise director, on multiple occasions thanked the people that donated blood for the injured passenger, and rightfully so. But at no time did anyone on the staff thank the rest of the passengers for their patience or understanding, or apologize for loss of a day in Bermuda. I train customer service reps, and part of that training is teaching them that there will be instances where they need to take the heat and responsibility for things out of their control, and do their best to make the customers whole, and I saw none of that from Norwegian cruise lines. This would be a running trend with our cruise. On I believe Tuesday or Wednesday, we ordered room service one night, at roughly 9:30pm. It never arrived. We waiting until midnight or so, and called it a night. The next day, I went to Guest Services to make sure we weren't charged for the room service that never arrived. Rather than apologizing for room service not showing up, or offering any kind of empathy, the representative simply said, "If it happens again, dial 00 and we can check the status of it for you." They didn't even seem concerned that the event happened. It is for these reasons that I will not only never consider another Norwegian cruise, but I will tell everyone I know when asked about the cruise about our negative experience. My one and only experience with Norwegian was made up of several instances of their business not accepting accountability for the negative experiences that occurred, and I will be sure to communicate that fact to anyone who will listen. Aside from that, the cruise was decent. Getting on the ship was easy enough, as well as receiving our luggage. We ate at many of the complimentary and specialty restaurants, and the food was always good. The entertainment on board was good, particularly the magician and the comedy troupe. There was also an aerialist duo that was tremendous. I can't speak for the shore excursions since it was cheaper to purchase those on the island rather than via the cruise. Disembarking was a bit of a nightmare. We took the easy walk off option, but it wasn't overly easy. It appeared that everyone on board took the same option, and the line snaked around the entire 7th deck. There was very little organization, and we ended up getting yelled at for attempting to cut the line, even though it wasn't evident where the line even started. Eventually staff showed up to help direct traffic, but they really should think about staggering the easy walk off folks a bit. I wish I could say I enjoyed the cruise, but whenever someone asks me how it went, I cant in good conscience say it went well. It didn't. Read Less

Mom and I have taken this cruise for the last 3 years and have been fairly happy with the food and very happy with the friendliness and service of the staff. Something has definitely changed on the Dawn...not sure if they are cutting back on the quality of food and number of staff...but will think twice before taking this cruise again. Food quality was inconsistent and sometimes didn't even eat it. Eggs benedict were fine sometimes or they could be hard boiled...Meat was not the quality we are accustomed to on Norwegian. Meats were either very fatty or tough...fish was dry and overcooked. Staff was not friendly or smiling like we are used to on the Dawn nor was the service the same. Was difficult to get drinks in the casino especially. Had to ask for a server every day! And even then it took quite a bit of time to get a drink. After the show honoring the staff on the ship, my 79 year old Mom started shaking hands as usual ...one of the officers refused to shake her hand and said, "We don't shake hands!" Well isn't that nice???? Maybe that is why the staff on this ship has become unfriendly. Need to improve cleanliness in the buffet as well as the pool deck. Often the tables were left dirty and sticky...especially along the edges. Tip for those of you who may experience this; I now take my napkin and place it under my plate so I don't have to touch the table, then place remainder in my lap. I think I will pass on the Dawn and either try another ship or another Cruise Line! Read Less

Hello, I have been on approx 20-25 cruises. This is the 1st time ever on a cruise that I wasn't served lobster during the week, NCL just stopped it on this boat. The other food was very good though. They have about 6 specialty restaurants on the ship that take up a lot of the ships space and they Charge you $20-30.00 pp to eat. RCL doesn't make a business out of it, there food is mostly FREE like it should be. Drinks are approx $10.00 apiece. Even room service is $7.95, on RCL it is FREE. Everywhere you turn they will charge you, and you can honestly feel the GREED! I was really getting upset about it. NCL is losing the fun factor because of it. The benefits for frequent cruisers cannot be compared to RCL in anyway, NCL literally STINKS in this area. ON RCL you get FREE Drinks from 4:30-8:00, it's a Huge bonus. Also on RCL Free special Lounge area with snacks (coffee, chocolate covered strawberries, ect), robes, in room goodies, discounts, ect! I am not exaggerating when I say they are getting Greedy, I have been on many cruises. The good parts are, service was very good, some shows were excellent (David), Atrium with walk around deck is nice. If you want to build up frequent cruiser benefits then absolutely go with RCL. If you want to get Nickel and Dimed $10-30 bucks at a time then go with NCL. Read Less

Two first days at sea with nothing to do but be held hostage by all the jewelry salesmen. Freezing cold and very rough waters. I was really surprised that they didn't schedule any entertainment or activities during the day. The hard sell on all of their trinkets was very annoying. They even had an "activity" that was a cosmetic surgeon trying to drum up business. The food was mediocre and I was surprised how much indian food was on the buffet every day. The deserts were inedible except for "Le Bistro" where the food and service were lovely. When we got in to port there is not much to do in Bermuda. We were steered toward St. George by the staff but when we got there we found a hand full of shops selling trinkets and 3 restaurants serving overpriced terrible food. I tried to order a pancake off the breakfast menus where it says "Hot off the griddle" it was rubbery and strange, the waitress was lovely and told me that all the pancakes are frozen and defrosted the night before. The shops all closed at 3. It was very strange, it was a bit like visiting a ghost town. We had been told that there was nothing to do in Hamilton but we ventured in on our second day and it was lovely, it is a city with lots of shopping, pubs and good restaurants. The beach was fine but the water is very cold and I think to describe the sand as pink is a bit of an overstatement. Everything seemed overpriced and very cheap. I did go to look at the spa and was signing up to use the thermal spa but them was told it was all booked up and that If I wanted it next time I would need to book it in the first day on board. The pool area was very small and the "hot tubs" were barely lukewarm. The staff was friendly and helpful except for the customer service desk. I was with family so we made our own fun but I hate that a vacation we had looked forward to became a thing to endure and have fun "in spite of having to be here". Read Less

I have been on many cruises. Probably about 20 of them. I've lost count. This one overall was ok, but there were enough things wrong with it to keep from returning to this cruise line. Specialty dining, having paid for the dining package, left a bit to be desired. A major food allergy was ignored and when an attempt was made to correct the problem, the same steak was put back on the grill 3 times until it resembled shoe leather. The Brazilian grill failed to live up to its advertising. Tiny portions of meat pre-cooked and served on a spit. Some were to tough to be edible. No midnight buffet. No food after 10:30 pm unless you want a horribly prepared hamburger and want to wait for it to be cooked to order. No pizza anywhere, at any time of day without paying a service charge of $5.00 per pizza and have it delivered by room service staff. Which, by the way was equally bad. Almost 2 hours to deliver the worst food ever on a ship. Room service refused to answer the phone on many occasions. How do you mess up a peanut butter and jelly sandwich? By putting it on hard stale bread leftover from days past. No child would ever consider eating it. No adult would eat anything else on the limited room service menu. Really, I'm not that fussy. I'm used to budget-cruising, but there where some serious issues with after-hours food, and also some periods of the day, where you just couldn't grab something for yourself. Also, there was a lot of weird ethnic foods with little other choices. I'm all for trying new things, but I really don't want curry or over-spiced Indian dishes while on a moving vessel. They didn't offer a lot of choices. No use of locker rooms without paying a fee of $30 per day! Rediculus. Another scam to take your money. You can use the gym, but no access to shower or sauna without paying giant service charge. Gross sweaty people right outside of dining area. I was seriously irritated that I could not enjoy this part of the ship without paying for a "club membership". Everywhere on the ship there where further attempts to nickel and dime you to death. Also visible signs of them cutting back. No more self-serve ice cream. You must be served by staff and only during certain hours. Less choices and smaller quantities of buffet foods. NCL claims to be a "green" organization, and yet they print thousands of photographs which are just trashed at the end of each cruise. Why do they not use a digital alternative?? On three different occasions, i found there was no toilet paper in three different restrooms. Defective merchandise (name brand watch) fell apart within hours of purchase and the ship staff was reluctant to give a refund. Later in the trip, the same watch had been repaired, returned to the showcase presented as "new" and had a higher price tag on it!! Guest relations: although the food allergy issue was seriously addressed and refunds given for the poor experience at the steak house, there are clearly other areas of concern. When I approached the guest relations desk, I asked for a "complaint form". The guest relations representative looked away from me, pointed at a rack of forms and said "they're over there". He never made eye contact. He never asked me what my problem was or if there was anything he could do to help me. Steer clear of this one. There are better options out there. Read Less

I've been on 6 other cruises in the past including ones with Royal Caribbean, Holland America & Carnival. My review will focus solely on the on ship experience because it rained entire time & due to a hurricane our on island time was cut short a day. Understandably this was in no one’s control other than Mother Nature. We had two rooms – one Aft facing penthouse suite on floor 9 (room 9236)and the next door balcony room. The penthouse suite was very nice and had a table for 4, couch seating area, large bed, dressing room area and full bathroom w/tub, large balcony. It came with Butler service which was nice for room service, getting DVDs to watch (as it rained entire time), etc. Our butler was very nice (Marc) but our room steward was the highlight of the cruise (Rodrigo Ortega). The downside to the room was we were constantly going out to cigarette butts on our balcony and lounge chairs from the room upstairs. Nasty! They also apparently cleaned decks above w/buckets of water w/out warning you…..be VERY careful or you’ll end up w/a head full of water after spending an hour getting ready for dinner. Not fun. They should warn you when they will be cleaning so you can avoid going out on balcony during those times. The room came equipped w/blow dryer, complimentary espresso machine (saves you a ton on coffee/espresso at the Java bar on the ship), DVDs, robes/slippers, room service, lots of free snacks/chocolates/treats delivered daily, we received free flowers and champagne on our first day, etc. The next door balcony room was nothing special (room 9238). It was small w/just a bed, 1 seat, small bathroom w/shower only and a small balcony. Nothing to write home about….though certainly better than in interior room. The food- barely edible. This was the worst food I’ve ever had and honestly, I was shocked! I’ve always had such great experiences with past cruises that I could not believe it was so bad. It was often stale, barely warm, tasted off/funny, etc. Service was just as bad. Staff seemed unengaged and unhappy. The ONLY time we got good food and “ok” service was when we paid extra for Cagney’s Steakhouse ($30 per person). The Venetian, Aqua, Garden Café, Grills at pool were horrible. I came home 4 lbs less than I started. Who is supposed to lose weight on a cruise?!?!? The activities on board were boring and all upsells. We were stuck on this ship for a long time due to the rain and the hurricane. The activities were things that revolved around the shops- learn about watches (then buy one), learn about rocks/stones (then buy the jewelry), learn about art (then attend the auction), deal or no deal (buy a ticket), bingo (again…buy a sheet), etc. Not a lot of fun at all! The illusion/magic show we watched was entertaining but short (40 min max). If you’re not a late night person then you will never get to enjoy the “party” and dance. All of those activities started at 11pm. If you have kids read the ages carefully before booking this cruise. The “teen” activities are for 13-17 years old w/NO exceptions. Our kids are 12 (13 ONE WEEK after cruise ended) and 14. They could not both attend teen club. We didn’t want them separated so they were unable to participate at all. The other age group is 2-12. Really? Toddlers w/my 12 year old? Is she being paid to baby sit?? Because that is a very large age gap. She was turning 13 one week after cruise ended but they refused to make any exceptions for us to keep our children together. We left Bermuda 1 day early and would have loved to get back to Boston a day early as well but no such luck. We were lied to and told that it took longer to get back b/c they had to sail “around the hurricane”. Not true. We saw the path of the storm and it wasn’t something to sail around. Also, we sailed back at a snail’s pace compared to the pace down to Bermuda. The truth is they don’t want to pay hotel costs, airplane change fees, 1 day credit to all passengers, etc. So instead we were all trapped on board for one more on sea day. BORING is a drastic understatement. Tips/Service Fees- every passenger is charged approx.. $12/day/person automatically on their credit card account. TAKE THIS OFF! Go to the customer service desk and request this be taken off 100%. They will have you sign a sheet of paper and it will be removed w/no issues at all. Just write that you will tip cash as appropriate. You will be charged 18% automatically on all drinks/services anyway (watch this because there is still a tip line on the slip…you already paid the tip!). The butler, if in a suite, is not included in the tip share so you’ll still want to provide him w/cash at the end. So why am I paying this very large automatic surcharge when I already paid thousands for the cruise? And 18% on all services? No thanks. I removed this $333 charge and left cash for my butler and room steward. My overall recommendation- avoid NCL and stick w/other cruise lines. I’ve never had such a bad experience and would never take a NCL cruise again.   Read Less

We are a family group, age from 3 to 73. this is our 6th cruise, but 1st with NCL. Overall, not that impressed. The first problem we experienced was during the embarking process. It went smoothly until passport check. They experienced a computer down and that apparently messed everything up for us. It finally took the agents (yes, it took 2 agents, 2 supervisors, 1 tech, and still not solving the problem so at last one of the agents had to call some authority on the ship) about half an hour at the counter to finally clear things up and let us on board. The food experience overall was average. We have dined at the Venetian's more than other places. The dinner food in main dining rooms was very good. Everybody could always find something that they craved. But the waiting time was too long. It took at least hour and half for a meal. The longest for us was two and half. Later on we learned the trick of ordering desserts at the beginning of meals. That sped things a little. Our breakfasts were at Garden Café, typical American breakfast options, eggs, meats, fruits, and the same selections for all the days. Lunches were with plenty of choices. The chicken wings on Deck 8 were exceptional. We also tried the French specialty dining once, finding it not worth the extra cover charge comparing its food with its peers on land, or with the main dining room options. So we cancelled other bookings and stayed at main dining rooms for the rest of the trip. I also found the dining room service quality to be average or below. I suspect this is due to the tipping system of NCL. Because of the freestyle, it becomes impossible for having the same waiting staff at the dinner table. The staff was generally warm and did an adequate job, but I did feel the lack of personal touch and the will for going above-and-beyond. By default the same amount of service fee is deducted automatically for each guest every day. I can imagine how this may impact the enthusiasm of the service staff too. Like I said, Dawn was an old ship. It showed many signs of aging. In particular its IT and electronics system lagged pretty far from other cruise companies. The TV programs were still standard definition, but with flat screen LCD TV, which made picture quality very bad. I did not find any ways to access my on board account other than going to the customer service desk, while on ships from other cruise lines that could be done through interactive TV for example. This may not be the same on NCL's newer ships. But clearly the 2011 refurbishment of the ship did little in this aspect. So overall, a below average experience. In planning for future cruises, I do not think I will put NCL high on the list. Read Less
