We are a married couple in our early 60's. This was our 13th cruise - 4 on Carnival, 4 on Royal Caribbean, 5 on NCL. I booked this cruise 8 days before (perk of being recently retired!) and got a fairly decent price. We booked a balcony guarantee and was assigned cabin 9660 (Cat BA) within a few days. We drove to Boston from Western Mass, parked at the open air lot at the bow of the ship for $175 for the week. Very convenient! We arrived at 10:40 and were onboard within an hour. We went straight to the Garden Cafe for lunch, which wasn't too crowded just yet. Not long after they announced cabins were ready. We absolutely loved the location of this cabin! There is a door in the hallway that says "Lounge", kind of a secret door that led into a quiet lounge on deck 9 that overlooked the Grand Atrium. The grand staircase is right there and within seconds we were at O'Sheehan's or one more flight to the Atrium. The cabin was just fine, clean and roomy enough. New carpeting and the best mini fridge ever! It actually was COLD! Our cabin steward, Errol was awesome, probably the best we ever had. Introduced himself right away, always had a smile and pleasant chit chat whenever we saw him. Towel animals every night, which makes this old girl happy. The pool area is mobbed on nice sea days. We rarely use the pool but do like to sit and people watch. It was hard to find a chair within view of the pool. The casino was crazy! I love casinos but actually avoided this one! I tried a few times but at night it is insanely packed and smoky. I did stop by midday on sea days, it wasn't too bad but still smoky and LOUD (announcements for tournaments). I had absolutely zero luck so between that and the crowds I actually saved some money by not going as often as I usually do! Bars/Lounges - our favorite was the Java Cafe in the Grand Atrium, but you had to get there early if you wanted a table before any entertainment started. We also liked Gatsby's, same deal. Both had great drinks and service was excellent. Pool bar was crazy busy. Bimini Bar on deck 14 was nice if you can get a table on a nice day. O'Sheehan's is good too. The "lounge" on deck 9 did have servers come up once in awhile but we only tried that once...after placing our order and the girl didn't come back for over 20 minutes we went looking for her in O'Sheehan's and found her and our drinks - I think she forgot where we were! We did not have the drink package...we found out that you have to be very specific when ordering, for example, I was drinking Margaritas. There is one on the menu for $12.95 (I forgot the actual name of it) but a "house" margarita is $8.95. Twice when I didn't specify "house", I was served the more expensive drink which tasted absolutely no different to me! So, remember to be clear when ordering! Entertainment - We weren't wild about the cruise director, Luz. I found her a little hard to understand and just not very entertaining. The assistant cruise director, Jefferson would have been better! We loved the singers, Jose and Patti, they are awesome. We also enjoyed Degas and his guitar in the lounges. The comedian was Julie Barr who was very funny. The PJ Magic Show was great. The singers and dancers were entertaining, those kids work so hard. They had plenty of bingo, Deal or No Deal, demonstrations of this and that and loads of sales pitches. Food...I know food is subjective so this is just our opinion, 2 regular schmucks who LOVE food. My husband absolutely loves a buffet but not this one. We found that about 75% of the food that we tried was luke warm to cold. The selection was repetitive and boring. Everyday the hot food selection started with white rice, then some kind of stew. They had "country fried chicken" and it was a paper thin slice of dried up chicken...not exactly what I would call fried chicken, more like a chicken finger! We went one night around at 8:30 to find one side was already closed and very limited offerings on the side that was open. I asked if there was any beef or chicken as it was mostly fish and they directed me to the so called grilled chicken breast which is the same paper thin dry chicken, just without the breading. So disappointing. This was our 13th cruise and by far this was the worse buffet. The hamburg patties weren't bad but the bun was way too big. Pizza ended up being the only thing I liked and it was on one side, not the other. It was strange that they had stuff on both sides that were the same and then one item wasn't on the one side and you had to go all the way back to get it. Aggravating. We ate breakfast there only once because most items were cold. I hate searching for a table, then get water, coffee, juice and then food. We ended up at O'Sheehan's for breakfast almost every morning. Some of the side items were cold but the eggs were always cooked to order. The first morning our toast was more like bread so the next day we asked for it to be double toasted and from then on it was perfect. The menu is limited but just ask for something else...for example, they have English muffins, but it doesn't say it on the menu...you can order an omelet with a side of bacon and french toast, etc. We had prompt, courteous service and most of the time we had a booth looking out at the sea. We ate dinner in Aqua twice, late at night, between 9 and 9:30. Even though I asked for a "private table" for 2, they tried to seat us at the long bench of tables with 6" between tables. To me, that is NOT a private table for 2. So, both times I asked, can we sit over there, pointing to a table and both times they brought us to the other side of the restaurant to the damn bench seats but not too close to others. The 2nd night, it was almost 9:45 and a woman came in alone...the place is almost empty and they sat her right next to me. We were practically hitting elbows. I will never understand why they do that. At least leave a space between! The food was very tasty, served a little too fast (perhaps because it was so late) and the servers were friendly. We had dinner in Bamboo and the same thing happened with seating....sigh....but the food was very good. We ate dinner in O'Sheehan's twice, no problem with a "private table" there! And the food was hot and good. Ate dinner twice in the buffet and absolutely hated it. Kept wanting to give it a try because DH loves a buffet but.... Lunch was mostly in the buffet or poolside. It was okay for a quick lunch. We did lunch once in the Venetian which was very good. Everyday I stopped by Topsiders Ice Cream for dessert...love ice cream! One day they had Rum Raisin and it was great! There is also a soft service ice cream way in the back of the buffet on the portside. We certainly didn't go hungry, there are plenty of options. Just very disappointed in the buffet as that is where we usually eat most nights, but not on this ship. What is nice on Norwegian is they have the 24/7 O'Sheehan's and "snacks" available all the time in the buffet. We did not try room service. Now a lot of people will say I'm just complaining about nothing, because my next topic is the television. People say they don't have time to watch TV on a cruise but we tend to take one or two breaks a day and just go flop on the bed for an hour or so and I like to watch TV before bed. They have 7 ship channels playing the same things over and over again....4 news channels - International CNBC, FOX News, MSNBC, BBC, one sports channel, something called Engage, 2 movie channels and 1 TV show channel. I don't know about you but when I'm on vacation the last thing I want to watch is the news, especially lately. And they were on 24/7. The 2 movie channels we okay but we never knew what was starting when so it was either in progress or going to start in 23 minutes. The TV channel played things like Big Bang Theory which is fine but the shows ran without commercials so it would be on for 21 minutes and then there was nothing for the next 9 minutes. It may seem petty to complain about TV but I don't remember anything like this on other cruises. If you have small children, you might want to download some kids shows - they did have some kids programming but not much. This was our 4th trip to Bermuda. A beautiful, friendly island. The weather was perfect. Late May is a nice time to go! Previously we had been there in September and October and it was hot!!! We had a great time, even though I sound like I complaining here! I research before my cruises and I appreciate honest reviews and that's what I'm trying to do here. Read Less

I live in the Boston area so a cruise out of Boston and/or terminating in Boston is a plus (minimizing air travel is always a plus). Embarking/disembarking was typical for an ocean going cruise as was the cabin and most other amenities (I'm a six time cruiser, "typical" means quite good and no complaints). Dining was free style so no reserved table in the evening and a different wait staff each time. I missed that from other cruises. Norwegian seems to be steering you to the specialty dining venues: smaller, better food, more intimate but cost extra. That is the Norwegian theme. Everything seems to cost extra. I suspect the up front costs are deliberately kept low to attract customers but you seem to pay constantly for day to day amenities such as drinks (wine $11, beer $9); unless you buy the "Ultimate" drink package which is exorbitant. Speaking of which, the Norwegian Internet site sucks, it fails to inform you of all the various drink packages available. You don't find out your options until you board. There is a beer package and a wine package available. The wine package worked for me. Forget Internet service (at least for me). I purchased 175 minutes of Internet and got like 10 minutes. The rest of the minutes went down the drain. If you don't make a point of logging out of their app, the minutes just keep counting. I went to the Network guru the first time and he restored my lost minutes, but even then I lost minutes big time (download time can be extensive and counts toward your allocation and it seemed even logging out of the app didn't stop the clock). Simply not worth it. You're on vacation, forget the Internet! Money is better spent on a drink package or an excursion on Bermuda. I wish I'd done that. Biggest complaint for me was no quiet spot. There were four days at sea and for me, the only quiet spot for reading or contemplating the horizon was my balcony. Every public venue was noisy or had some entertainment or noisy and crowded. Even the promenade deck had very few lounge chairs. The other ships I've been on all had a lounge or two overlooking the bow or stern with views and with wait service and was fairly quiet and peaceful and a place for conservation, except for an occasional event. I missed that and found it a real drawback, particularly since we spent four days at sea. My biggest complaint. Read Less

We just came off the Dawn, Boston to Bermuda. embarkation was not too bad at all and we made it onto the ship in about 45 mins. Once on the ship we walked around to get the layout...being lunch time we headed to the buffet in the back of the ship....total mayhem, we opted to head to the pool deck for a burger ...which was good. They announced rooms open and we went to our balcony cabin 10206, starboard side aft. It was clean but on the small side but enough room for two. The bathrooms were on the small side but ok. The cabin and the ship were always kept clean and neat. We never did the freestyle cruising before but go the hang of it. NCL has a rather relaxed dress code, there were no Formal nights....long pants and collared shirt for men seemed to meet the codes. Shorts were allowed in the dining room on almost every night. We chose to eat in the dining room or a specialty restaurant every night. The Buffett was just crazy, ie morning breakfast lines on two sides ended with the Omelet station ...which backed up the line as people waiting for their egg ordered stayed in line and kept the rest of the line from moving forward. ...Dining room food was good. Specialty dining was great..go for the packages. We had the free drink package, a first for us...what I did not like was you did not get a receipt after you get your drink...so there was no way of telling how much they charged for the gratuity or service charge...strange... Some bars carried certain liquors some did not...so you have to search out which bar has your brand . Staff was very friendly and helpful. Entertainment was ok. Cruise director does a Tina Turner set and is great. Shopping on board is really not worth the bother, no great prices at all...even when they put things on sale. Our cabin was under the Spa...noise in the middle of the night when they do the floors, but it does not last that long. One big gripe was on several occasions we stopped at Osheehans for a cocktail, the first time, I had to go to the bar after waiting 20 minutes to ask if we could have someone come take our drink orders, ...10 mins later someone came...and we got a drink....we were there over an hour and a half and that was the only time we got served a drink...we tried to give it another chance but it was bad...we moved on to another bar for our cocktails...I am sure there is more but my mind is whirling around after just getting off. Not sure if we would do the Dawn again but it is not a bad ship by any means... Read Less

We have cruised on this ship many times over the years and always had a great time. This time, however, there was a big difference, THE FOOD. I don't know what happened but the food was well below what we have been accustomed to over the years. Starting with the 3 buffets daily, the selection was lacking any imagination what so ever. The food was bland, to say the least. During breakfast the omelet station which has always been a mainstay was not good, the eggs tasted like they were watered down, the person running the station could only prepare one omelet at a time. During lunch and dinner, the meats were dry and the assortment of accompanying side dishes were bland. The ship was clean and our stateroom was typical. The entertainment was average at best. Even the ships stores were different. My wife picked out something from the Duty-Free shop that was clearly marked $81.00 and when it was rung up it was $101.00. The associate brought in a manager and we went right to the spot it displayed at and they admitted it was marked $81.00 but tried to say it wasn't their fault it was labeled incorrectly. Past sailings would have been handled much differently. The manager would have apologized for their mistake and made it right. This time the manager was very unprofessional and argumentative. Overal it was a very disappointing cruise. Read Less

As a first time cruiser I really enjoyed my time on the Dawn. The staff was all really wonderful! The food and entertainment were also great! Since we were at sea for the majority of the trip, the pool area was always busy. It was pretty easy to get chairs, and the entertainment at the pool was always fun to watch. The servers at the pool weren't great though, we often had to seek them out to get a drink! Getting on and off the ship in Bermuda was super easy and super fast. Everyone was friendly and welcoming both on and off the ship. The biggest downside for me is that they allow smoking in the casino, which is inside the ship. That meant that almost that whole floor smelled of smoke, and you had to walk through the casino to get to some of the entertainment. It was very disappointing to have to deal with that. Read Less

This cruise is from Boston, only 4 hours from my home. We had never never been to Bermuda so a good chance to see the Bermuda islands. The offer of Canadian dollar at par with US dollar was too good to pass up. The ship is very nice but a step down from our previous cruises with Princess and with Holland America. It was nice not having to dress up for meals. The dining was OK but inferior to Princess and Holland. I was expecting lobster for at least one dinner but, alas, there was none offered. Entertainment was good as was the usual shopping and casino. It was a typical cruise; nothing out of the ordinary but we had a pleasant time. The location of our inside cabin mid ship was great, and easy to get anywhere. I found the staff very friendly and cooperative at all times. Thank you. Read Less

My overall experience with this cruise is that it met the expectations for what we paid for this cruise. It was a fairly inexpensive cruise for the base price, so we went into not expecting much. It was a good thing that we did, because the cruise was about on par with our expectations. If I had paid more for this cruise, I would have given it a lower rating, but I know that you typically get what you pay for, and in this case, we did. We decided to go on this cruise out of Boston because it lined up with school vacation and no flight was needed. Being a family of five (two adults, three young children), NCL requires either getting two regular rooms or one very expensive suite, so we booked two smaller rooms side by side. I thought the overall price for this cruise was fair, especially taking into account the fact that we didn't have to fly to get to Boston. Embarkation was tolerable. We arrived at the port around noon and while there was a large line of people waiting to check in, it went fast enough. The woman who checked us in was very friendly and helpful. Once we checked in, we were able to walk right onto the ship without waiting in any lines. As for our experience on board, it is mainly in-line with what many other reviewers have said. The ship is in fairly good physical condition and all of the common areas are well maintained. Inside staterooms are on the small side, but our room steward was great at keeping it clean and well stocked with ice and towels. The beds were not comfortable and were rock hard. The ship is a little confusing to get around on, and the signage leaves something to be desired, but overall, after a day you could find your way around easy enough. My three biggest complaints about the ship are three that I have seen repeated on these reviews multiple times. The first is the buffet. It is about half the size it should be in terms of seating areas. At busy times, there were no places to sit. The tables were pushed very close together and it made it difficult to get in and out of seats (if you were able to find them) and made it very difficult to walk past the beverage stations where people would stop to fill cups. It was also annoying that both sides of the buffet were slightly different (for instance, they only had burgers and fries on one side, so if you were on the wrong side, you had to fight your way through the crowds around to the other side). Most of the staff working in the buffet were friendly and hardworking, doing their best to clear tables immediately so they could free up more space. The other big complaint was the service in the main dining rooms. We ate almost all of our meals in the main dining rooms because the buffet was so crowded. Most of the time, the servers were not very friendly and acted disinterested. This was a surprise, as on all of the other cruises we've been on, the servers were always friendly and fun. On the Dawn, the servers in the main dining room were barely putting in the minimum effort. Service was lackluster at best. We would have to ask multiple times to get a high chair or drink service. Meals were also erratic in their pace, so you'd be served appetizers and your main course fairly quickly, but then be left waiting 30 minutes for dessert. Disembarkation was also a pain on this cruise. It was a very chaotic event and nobody on staff seemed to know what was going on. On all of the other cruises I've been on, disembarkation was an orderly process that flowed quickly. On this ship, lines wrapped halfway around the ship. Lines were crowding by the elevators so people trying to take them were stuck and couldn't get in or out. For a ship that has been around for 20 years, you would have thought this was the first time they've ever tried getting people off the ship. Even with the shortcomings of this trip, we did have a good time. We didn't expect a 5 star experience based on the price we paid, but there were a few things the cruise line could have improved upon at little to no cost to them that would have gotten them a higher rating. I chose this cruise for the convenience. It’s local I didn’t need air fare and the price was reasonable. A couple things I didn’t like was the ocean was so rough with huge swells. I was told by the help that it is always like this out of Boston. So if you get sea sick like I do it’s not the cruise for you. Second thing I was disappointed in was the food. The buffet was the same food every day. It was very boring. The restaurants that were included in the fare were the same as well. They would put one or two new items a night but nothing spectacular. What I loved was how nice the crew is. Everyone was very friendly. Our cabin man was so sweet. We had a lot of fun on our excursions as well. Bermuda is beautiful and the people are the friendliest I have ever met. They truly love for you to come to their island and love to tell you all about it. Read Less

My family alway's wanted to do a family cruise, and since my wife and I were celebrating our 25th Wedding Anniversary we thought it would be perfect having our children there with us. Well we left Boston and headed into the Bermuda Triangle on Friday the 13th of April 2018, the weather was perfect, we (my wife, 3 children, and daughter's boyfriend) were very excited for the vacation of a lifetime. Everything was smooth leaving Boston, everyone in port, and on the ship was so helpful. We are so excited to start making this very special journey, if we had only known what awaited us. "Turning back the clock" I so needed this vacation, a couple weeks ago prior, my wife and I went to our friends Wedding in Las Vegas. The morning after the Wedding I received a phone call that my Best Friend passed away in Florida. My wife and I came back too Massachusetts, put our child on the school bus. I kissed my wife goodbye and flew to Florida. While at the funeral in Florida I received a message my beloved Aunt had just Passed away. I called my brother to inform him about our Aunt; he informs me that our dispatcher had not showed up for work and was found in her apt. R.I.P. Just when you think it can't get any worse I find out my oldest brother's daughters son had passed. Okay enough!!! All I can think about is that commercial where a couple is laying on the beach relaxing with a drink, a single cloud passes overhead and the comment: Yesterday was so much better! My wife and I needed that! Ok, our first day in Bermuda I'm emotionally and physically too exhausted to do anything. That night we kissed our kids goodnight (kids shared another room on the ship), so we thought. As I was about to shut off the light I got a knock on the door; it's my oldest son. he has a towel saturated with blood saying he had just chipped his tooth. Looking him over I noticed scrapes all over him. I asked my son: Ok, how the hell did you chip your tooth in your room? His reply: I rented a motorbike earlier in the day and decided to take a ride with my brother. OMG!!! Where is he? (thinking the worst)! His reply: back at the room. Younger brother was just scraped up; my wife gave my oldest daughter a first aid kit, and had her tend too my youngest son. My wife, oldest son and I went to the ships E.R. where he was x-rayed. His jaw was broken and fractured. So the ships medical facility wrapped his head with bandages to avoid any further damage. We went to Bermudas only Hospital by ambulance, we experienced Bermudas "way of doing things". Long story short, my sons jaw was wired shut. He now eats though a straw. All medical expeensives were paid upfront, maxing out all our credit cards. We did spend the rest of our time traveling to medical appointments on the island (taxi rides one way was $45 before tip). The Chefs on the ship were awesome, they were able to blend my sons food for the trip back home. As for me, the company I work for understands the debt I recently acquired, and is helping me. I now work 7 days a week. No matter the obstacles of Life...I still love my Wife! Read Less

We chose this cruise to avoid having to fly to Florida to embark. The staff was fantastic, our steward was great. Our stateroom immaculate and sooo nice. We loved it. The food was okay--looked better than it tasted. Overall, fairly average. Not bad, just not anything amazing. We were also VERY put off by the amount of area devoted to smokers. Half of the pool deck was a smoking area which is WAY too much. There were too many areas where smoking was allowed. Norwegian has to understand that non-smokers out number smokers, and most of us are extremely offended by second hand smoke. We could not enjoy the casino at all; it was disgusting and foggy with smoke. Very disappointing that one walk through left our clothes reeking of smoke. I wish Norwegian would consider a much more segregated area for smokers. Or a completely non-smoking pool deck or non-smoking casino? Read Less

We like the Boston to Bermuda on NCL - third time. But cabin 9550 was not ready for guests. Over first three days we had 8-10 technicians fixing various things... no grip on the balcony door, paint splattered all over the sliders and on the deck, sewage smell in the bathroom daily, and on 3rd morning...no cold water, ergo no shower or brushing teeth. Staff was very responsive, apologetic and quick to act, but it all seemed insincere, like they were just doing their job. With the water issue, we asked to speak with someone. Exec Housekeeper came the next day, apologized with big smile and even offered us a specialty dinner, free. If he checked, he would know we purchased a dining package already. Overall, these experiences were like a constant rain cloud over us - intrusive, inconvenient, uncomfortable, and an ongoing frustration (smellng sewage is not fun). This is our 3rd DAWN Bermuda cruise. Things changed. They cut even more corners in an effort to bump profits. Buffet food selections were not as extensive. If you want lox in the morning you have to know who and where to ask for them. They are kept under the counter on the main buffet line, so act like Oliver in the Dicken's book... "Please sir, may I have some more?". really. There were many other changes. O'Sheehan's has improved service and menu. Much better. Bingo prizes were better as well. Many more Enrichment events. Yet, the spa pool was closed 2-3 days, and not for rocking. seas were very calm. The DAWN was refurbished last year, but as the Exec explained it was only cosmetic. The ship needs some infrastructure updates. it's old and rusty looking. It seemed this ship was filled with NCL trainees - just an overriding atmosphere others noticed too. Having said that, we will cruise again on NCL, in fact, the Epic in January. It's generally a good value. The irony of our bad experience this time was we finally reached Platinum Level ...on our first night. Don't mean to be negative, but the only way to make things better is to speak up. Read Less

A week off on a cruise is still a better week than being at work. All of our 8 other cruises were always amazing with only minor hiccups or inconveniences. However, we had several bad experiences on the Dawn. We had a family suite we were upgraded through the bidding process. We were extremely excited about being upgrade. We normally stay in the Haven areas or Suites but didn't have enough money when we book and saved over $1000 by upgrading. Embarkation was quick and easy but were led to a small corner of the port building for suite guest. It was crowded and not enough room for passengers to get by information desk and to their seats. Disembarkation was a mess as it always is. We met the concierge in the theater and then followed the group outside to the Homeland Security agent who was on the ship but became lost getting of the ship as there was no one to direct you where to exit. This was our first time in this port. When we were alerted we could go in our rooms we went to our room to find it extremely dirty, a poorly made bed, crumbs all of the floor, and gross trash cans that looked liked they were puked in. We figured it would be addressed at turn down since he must have been rushed cleaning it. It never got much better and took the the second morning for the trash cans to be cleaned. When we woke up the second day we noticed a nasty stain on the mattress and sheet. The third day the mattress was replaced but the dirty sheet that didn't fit the bed remained. We don't like complaining and figured it would be caught but it never was. Also, the wine glass or coffee cups we used the night before or in the morning were not removed until turn down so the room never appeared "clean." On all of our other trips the rooms were beyond expectation and had very personable room stewards. This one could barely be found when we need something. We also had poor service at some bars and in some restaurants. We were told by the atrium bar tender when we asked for two Miami vices that we should go up stairs because they are pre-made (not true), when he had just made two others before we walked up. The Venetian restaurant we had horrible meals and poor service. The lasagna tasted like chef boyardee and it took 2.5 hours before we had dessert and were able to leave. Moderno for breakfast and lunch was so-so with slow service and not the same level of service we received in the Haven. The maitre'd on EVERY ship and including the sky always made it a point to learn our names and be friendly, not on this ship. We had our best meal at La Cucina with a great waiter and the chef even came out to greet us. Cagney's was great but the steaks weren't as good as we are used too. Los Lobos was amazing except for the waiter who didn't look at us, was slow (when we were the only ones there practically), extremely unfriendly, and made the dining experience poor. We loved the food though and the drinks. We went back to hang out at the bar and have more margaritas though two nights later. The buffet was exceptional and was even great at dinner time. We had great service at the customer service desk but one of the supervisors who assisted us switch Credit Cards after a payment cleared. Due to the poor service mentioned above we also went to her to have the daily charges removed (our first time) because of the aforementioned issues. We did tip well along the way where we had great service - casino bar, La Cucina, Los Lobos Bar, Pool Bar, and the Wine Bar (which was absolutely enchanting and reminded us of the quality of service of the Haven bar). We tipped our butler, concierge, and still tipped the room steward since he stepped up his game the last two nights once we complained. The Casino host was great as well and took care of us. The ship was fun and different. However, was difficult to navigate and still had some wear and tear even after renovation. For instance our room was an ice cube even when we had it on high. One area would be hot the next freezing. We didn't know how to dress to be comfortable. The entertainment was good but mostly geared for the 50+ crowd not 30 somethings. Bermuda was excellent as usual and a had a great learn to scuba dive excursions and we finally got to visit the Dockyard museum. Being the only ship in port we went to Horseshoe Bay again and loved it with it being actually fun and usable will so few people there. Entertainment seemed varied and was entertaining. It's hard not to have fun even with the issue we mentioned and we truly did and enjoyed our trip overall. We met some great people on the ship which made our experience more positive. We look forward getting back on the Breakaway (our favorite ship) in February. Read Less

Traveled to Bermuda on 8/18/2017 from Boston, MA on the NCL Dawn. We booked a balcony on the 10th level (Room 10088). The ship states that it was refurbished in ~2016, looking at the room one wouldn't think it was. We have been on 3 other cruise ships (Carnival, Royal Car, Princess), Royal Car being far superior room wise then all the rest. NCL was second followed by Princess and Carnival being last. The crew was fantastic and great to be around, and always something going on fun activities to keep one entertained. Great interactive games, amazing shows and great drinks. Dining was great with the exception of Los Lobos (may have been a off day for the restaurant). Food was uneatable the night we were there, grease overflowing from the Empenadas, the carne asada was tough as nail and so over-seasoned that it was uneatable (I think the seasoning bottle tipped over on the meat). The Excursions are extremely pricey but that is due to gas prices on the island. We rented our own taxi to bring us to the beach we saved a lot of $$ doing this. We paid $60 for a taxi where the ship charged $69 pp. We had 5 people in our party and paid $60 by getting our own cab. I give this cruise 3.5 stars. Read Less

Ship was chosen to coincide with our anniversary. Very Old ship and even with 6' swells we were rocking and rolling. Moved very slowly to give us two full days going and two full days returning. Would have liked to have had more time in Bermuda. Staff tried to make trip as pleasant as possible. Food in specialty restaurant was overcooked and very bland. Buffet had large variety and most passengers ate there. Pool was always crowded and hot tubs were constantly filled with people. Even tough to find a lounge chair during the heat of the day. Dinning was at one end of the ship and entertainment was at the other end. Paid $69 for three (3) games of bingo that paid $125 each. For our anniversary we received a small cake 4" x 4" and singing waiters. Only four (4) elevators to a group and many times they would pass your floor because of overcrowding. Highlight was room steward making us a towel animal each evening and completing his room prep very efficiently and with a smile. First experience with Norwegian and we will not be giving up our membership on Princess. Read Less

Chose this cruise for timing and ease of access to Boston. Have been on Holland America ships and QM2. Was disappointed in everything except service. Got a great deal for suite with butler - first time with this. Suite was beautiful and came with lots of perks. Our butler and room steward were outstanding. Pool was too small, too crowded, and had no shallow end. Lots of drinking in the pool. Library was inside - no view as on other ships I've been on - and absolutely freezing for the whole week. We enjoyed the 3 meals in specialty restaurants that came as part of our booking, but service was usually very slow. My granddaughter found a bug in her pad Thai the only night we ate in the Venetian dining room- they wouldn't take a replacement order until the restaurant manager got to our table, he then took our cabin number, and that was the last we heard about it. I know that can happen anywhere, but why did we have to wait so long to reorder?? Hard to get around the ship, since they wouldn't let the kids even walk through the casino, so there was no way to get from one end of that deck to another. My teenage granddaughter loved hanging out with other teens at night. No lectures. Loved the suite experience but wouldn't sail on Dawn again. Read Less

We chose this cruise because the date in Bermuda was our anniversary (50th) and we had honeymooned there. I was pleasantly surprised at the quality of food , as compared to other NCL cruises we were on. The only specialty restaurant we went to was Moderno, which was excellent!! We were a group of 18, and we like to get together and play games, and we never found any place that was quiet, All the entertainment was so loud that we couldn't hear each other. The only place we found was the Garden Cafe, but not at meal times. No card room. Also, the service in the dining room was well below other cruise lines, not only the language barrier. Extremely slow and not very gracious. Also, there were never enough seats in the public rooms. We couldn't get into several shows, and there was a cigar room, right next to the piano bar, and the smoke permeated the bar, which was unpleasant. don't think we'd do another NCL!! Read Less

Why did I choose this cruise? It was cheap and we had never been to Bermuda. Ok, you are entitled to some more details. So Cruisin Duck is back to give you the run down on this cruise. I shall divide my review into three parts for your reading pleasure - the Pros, the Cons, and the Verdict. The Pros - Entertainment was excellent. We especially liked the flying duo, magician and second city comedy. Bermuda was beautiful and easy to navigate. Take the ferries. Our waitress Jasmin was nice. The ship was in good shape despite being older. We are not from Boston and spent a week with the primarily New England crowd. Let me say that these fellow passengers are some of the nicest people we have met. What a great group - despite all of the Tom Brady jerseys :) Finally, the kids club was just great - much better than Getaway and Escape. The kids could not wait to go there. The Cons - The food was deplorable. Unseasoned fish, lamb pieces, same breakfast every day. Unfortunately, the staff seemed the least friendly of any cruise we have taken. Now, we are not expecting a free bottle of wine at dinner every night (who gets that?), but this staff (with a few exceptions) seemed to be cold and some had distain for the passengers. An example... A young man filling his water bottle at the buffet when he was not supposed to. Krystal: "As the sign says sir, you may not fill your water bottle here." The young man: "I'm sorry." Krystal, as the man walks away, "I guess when some people go on vacation they forget how to read." The Matre D' at Venetian and Assistant just stood around by the front entrance. No interaction with guests, no checking on our food, nothing. Same with most of the senior officers, you are lucky to get a smile from them. The Verdict - Sorry, but this will probably be our last NCL cruise (unless I find another good deal like this). The food is just not good and the staff was unfriendly. Whatever happened to the waiter who asks you about your day and remembers your name? Whatever happened to fresh fruit? What ever happened to my chair at the pool? Whatever happened to being able to bring a bottle of wine aboard? Whatever happened to the midnight buffet? Lobster, where is that? Good thing I got a lobster roll when I got back to Boston. Again, Boston, great folks. Whatever happened to my Royal Caribbean Captain's Club #? TD Read Less

Convenience to Black Falcon Pier... no air travel... that is the only selling point that I have for this cruise. My wife and I take this cruise each year (20 in all). And for the last 6 years this cruise (NCL Dawn) is just a rerun of past cruises. That is, same entertainment, same schedule, same everything. I would hope that NCL recognizes that it has many return cruisers on the Dawn. This year's entertainment was by far the poorest I have seen on any cruise. Aside from the rerun entertainment venue, the musical entertainment, especially in the Atrium, was boring and if you had insomnia then you would be cured. No energy, no excitement, no anything. In fact, the Atrium was empty when the entertainers were on stage. I have see it as standing room only on past cruises because the quality of the entertainment was so good and exciting. The quality of the food in the buffet has improved since years' past. But, the quality of the food in LeBistro has definitely taken a plunge. I ordered Escargo as a app and when got it there were no "snails" to be found! Seriously. I informed the server who brought me another and guess what, I found tiny pieces of "snail", not the typical whole piece. Very skimpy! Now, the entire wait staff include cabin steward remain exceptional. They are (most) very polite and professional. They deserve every bit of recognition from NCL management (and I'm hoping they do). Now for the banger. This is the second year in a row that I contracted an upper respiratory infection immediately following the cruise (same for my wife). Other folks too complained about not feeling well upon debarkation. So, in summary, this was my last trip on the NCL Dawn. It's unfortunate, but for the price I paid (and the price went up substantially over last year) coupled with the rerun-centric theme plus the illness, well it's time to move on to something else. We chose this cruise because neither of us had been to Bermuda and it was a good deal within driving distance from home... The good: No lines for anything, 3 minutes for check-in! I suspect this ship was less than half full because, even at sailaway, there were plenty of tables to be found in the Garden Cafe buffet. There was also never a shortage of pool loungers either. Our cabin steward was friendly and efficient and the shows were pretty good, too. The bad: The food was mediocre....not bad, but not that great either. I have chosen not to cruise Norwegian for the last 20 years because my first and only Norwegian cruise had bad service and worse food. The "nickel and diming" has now gotten out of control! You are not even allowed to bring your own bottle of water aboard! This is obviously because one of the first things you are offered in your cabin is their deluxe "hydration package" for just $19.95. Even at the formal dining rooms, a lobster tail comes with a $20 upcharge. Another gripe is that they set up the formal photography backdrops right at dinner time in such a way the the only passage for diners was between the camera and the subjects. All in all, we both gave this cruise a "B-" grade...a big improvement over the "D" we would have given the first Norwegian cruise....but in my mind, Norwegian has firmly established itself as the bottom of the barrel as far as cruises go. PS: What were they thinking with the horribly defaced framed paintings in the Venetian Dining room? Read Less

This was our first cruise and I guess we expected better. The cruise for us was "just okay". If you like to eat and drink alot then this is the cruise for you. We are not big eaters or drinkers. We were disappointed that there was only 1 swimming pool on the ship and it was small. It seemed like you had to get up at the crack of dawn to get a spot by the pool. Everyday the pool was packed. The buffet food was pretty much the same everyday (pancakes, french toast, scrambled eggs, sausage, bacon etc.), and was not that great. We had the plan where you can eat at 3 specialty restaurants. We ate at Cagney's steakhouse 2 nights and the Brazilian steakhouse 1 night. Cagneys steakhouse was the best. We had a good filet mignon both nights that we ate there. However the side's were cold. The brazilian steakhouse was also good but we were served cold sides with our meal. The Venetian restaurant was always packed and to be honest with you the food was not great. We had the lasangna and it tasted like chef-boy-r-dee in a can. The stateroom was what we expected. We had a balcony room with 2 chairs on it. The bed was two twin beds pushed together to make it look like a king bed. The mattress was fairly uncomfortable and there was a large mirror above the bed that we kept hitting our head against when we tried to change positions while sleeping. Our housekeeper (Marcel Cumberbatch) was the best! Everyday he greeted us with a smile on his face. We felt bad for him because the cruise ship worked him like crazy. He worked long hours 7 days a week. He would make animals out of towels and put them on the bed when he made up the rooms. He went over and above his job duties. The entertainment was spectacular. We thoroughly enjoyed the "Elements" show and the acrobats from France. The Haines magic show was also pretty decent. We did not book any shore excursions through the ship but chose to venture out on our own. We arrived in Bermuda on a Sunday at 1pm. We were told all stores in Hamilton were closed on Sundays. So we hanged around the dock area and went to the clock tower mall. The clock tower mall was mostly all souvenir shops. There was a diamond international which was a big ripoff. Apparently they are known for their "crown of light" diamonds which is like the holy grail. Trying to bargain with them on one of their crown of light pieces is like trying to push a elephant. They don't budge. We wasted 3 hours of our time in this store after being led to believe we were buying a white gold tanzanite ring only to find out when it was time to pay that we were buying a sterling silver tanzanite ring for 2,800. Needless to say we did not buy the ring. The columbian emeralds on the ship was great! We bought a gorgeous white gold 1.75 carat tanzanite ring. The staff was fabulous! Monday was our first and only full day. We spent the day visiting Hamilton and going to the shops. There really was not too many shops and they were all pretty pricey. I got a pair of nice dress pants at the Sisley shop which had some nice clothing. The shops all close at 5pm. On Tuesday we thought we had another full day but we were wrong. We were told we would be heading back to Boston and to be on board by 4pm. This was disappointing to us. We wanted to go to Horse shoe beach and to the crystal caves. We only had time to go Horse shoe beach because the caves were a half hour away from the beach and also closed at 5pm. It would have been cutting it close and we did not want to chance it. The Horse shoe beach was excellent! It is a must see. There are other beaches that are apparently just as spectacular if you talk to the locals. Warwick beach is just a two minute drive past horse shoe beach and apparently has pinker sand according to the locals. Unfortunately we did not to this beach. Overall, it was just ok. It was definitely not worth the 4,300 we spent. We would not do it again. There was just not enough time to see Bermuda and see the sights you wanted to see. Wish we would have flown. But it was a learning experience for us. Read Less

Overall this was a nice cruise with some negatives, which is why I rated it as average. The Dawn has been revamped since we last cruised her to Bermuda. Except for the bathroom configuration and tub, we were disappointed with the cabin (see below.) We did this cruise a few years ago - I don't recall it being so noisy - constant loud music and announcements. It was very difficult to find a quiet place to sit other than in the cabin. Perhaps more deck chairs on Deck 7. Another negative is that it seems impossible to be seated at a large table to meet people at dinner. We asked every night that we were in the main dining room to no avail. Maybe NCL could set aside a portion of the dining room for traditional seating. We had the grandkids along (ages 11 and 12), and on their last cruise (traditional seating) they got a kick out of sitting with "strangers" and especially out of the wait staff getting to know them. And, as we know, the wait staff excel in that regard. Dinner at La Bistro was excellent; food and service. Being in port at the Royal Dockyard is perfect. Walk to Snorkle Beach, shopping, the fort, and the museum. Plenty of taxis and vans close by. Easy walk to the water taxi. Read Less

Although not our first experience cruising this was our first on Norwegian. This ship and itinerary were chosen for us as we were traveling with a pretty large group. Prior to boarding all we had known from talking to others about Norwegian is that their food was terrible. That could not have been further from the truth. I did not have a bad meal on this ship and through their freestyle dining options I was able to get some really awesome and delicious food on the ship. We paid a little one night for Teppanyaki which was the best meal we had on the ship. We ate more than once at the Bamboo Grill for Chinese food, a few times at O'Sheehans for some pub food, at the Dining room for a few meals and the rest at the Garden Cafe. With the food being good we did find however that some of the food services were not well run where it seemed that servers were a bit confused. I am not sure if that was a symptom of the freestyle dining or just that ship because in all my cruising I've never experienced that before. Finally if you have any dietary restrictions like vegetarian you may have a hard time finding a large spectrum of food to eat. The crew was outstanding as usual on a cruise ship. Everyone says hello, waiters and waitresses were always pleasant and gave you whatever you asked for if possible and would go way out of your way to be the best service they could provide. Our cabin steward as well as those of my family and friends were awesome. There ware a few things about this ship we liked and a few we absolutely did not like. I think the dislikes outdid the likes too. Likes: - The Food - The casino was tucked away in a secluded part of the ship. If you want to go there you had to make an effort. Many other ships I've been on make you go through or past the casino to get to other places on the ship walking through a cloud of cigarette smoke. That was a huge plus on this ship. - The ship was very clean. - The crew. - The shops did not pressure sell us. - Art Auctions were not pushed on us everywhere we walked. - The onboard talent was awesome. Dislikes: - The excursion desk was rarely staffed. There should be someone there most of the time before you get to your destination and during the stay to answer questions, help with issues or work with those who booked the wrong excursions. - There was a reservations line on the phone in the room. No one picked up any of the times that I called it. I don't know if anyone was ever there. - Cabins were very small even for 2 people. It was a 3 person cabin too. - There was one ice cream machine and it was not available past 11:00. - One night I couldn't get a cup of coffee past 11:00 as all of the machines were shut down. - There was no Columbian Coffee at the coffee and tea bar. So I couldn't even buy a better cup of coffee. - This ship was basically a free for all. There were no rules for anyone mostly the smokers. They were supposed to smoke only in designated areas but there was smoking all over the outside of the ship. I observed many times ships crew serving smokers drinks right under a no smoking sign. I couldn't walk anywhere on the outside of the ship or near the pool without a face full of smoke. It was really nasty. We also had to walk through the pool area on deck 12 if we wanted to go eat at the Garden Grill. If we chose to get something there and bring it back to our rooms or on deck we had to walk past the smokers with our food. The only way around it was to get the food, go down a few decks and then across the ship and back up to the cabin or part of the deck you were sitting. Should have been that way. - No programs for teens and they were really obnoxious. We went to the library one evening to read in a quiet space and the teens came in, were loud, foul mouthed and left plates and cup and things all over. When we asked them if they could be a little quieter they go nasty with us. It was not a nice evening. - With that said, there were not areas for those over 21 who didn't want to be splashed in the pool or hot tubs by children or overcome by teens trying to pick each other up. - Photos - We have purchased many pictures on cruise ships. They are expensive but always do a really great job. We wanted to spend $199 on a package but were told that someone from our cabin had to be in every picture to be included in the package. We were traveling with our adult children, relative and friends who each had their own cabin. If we wanted pictures without us in them we would have had to pay extra. We passed on the package and spent much less than $199. Many of the pictures we took were awesome too. Shame. - We had eaten in the Bamboo restaurant a few times. Their desserts were awesome but we could only have them if we ate there with a reservation. They wouldn't allow us to get them and take them elsewhere on the ship. I didn't get that at all. Very disappointing. - We went to a few live shows in the Bliss lounge. It would get very crowded in there because it was way to small for the amount of people on the ship. The shows were great especially the Karaoke however there were no doors to close off the lounge. During live performances the people in the back were talking so loud that we could barely hear the singers. Also, the bartenders were singing one night during a live performance. Finally there were children in an adults only performance in the Bliss by the Second City TV troop that was on board. There was no security and no one did a thing to make those who wanted to hear more comfortable. No crew spoke up or said anything. I've never experienced that on a cruise before. This was the most I had ever paid for a cruise for my family. All in all I had a great time in Bermuda and on the ship with my friends but there were enough things that I did not like on that ship that could have been prevented. I would have to say that unless I go with another group, Norwegian would be very low on my list when planning my next cruise. Read Less

We wanted to see the America's Cup races and this was a good way to be close to the venu. Not much more to say, we cruise a lot with various lines and this was what we expected. I like the anytime dining and no formal nights. Makes it easier to pack into a smaller piece of luggage. I was not happy to see major tipping of the bar wait staff around the pool going on even though we participated in the tip package. Did not get my soft drink order on two separate occasions but the big tipper group (with a very obvious $20.00 tip) got theirs. Meals were served hot and in a reasonable time frame. Waiters in dining room very friendly. Cafe workers, BBQ cook, bar staff, internet manager and Cabin stewards very hard working and considerate. The entertainment was top drawer. We have another two Norwegian cruises booked in September. Hopefully they have a pool with a quiet area. Not everyone wants to drink hard and party hard, all day and all night long. Read Less
