We chose this cruise because we had a couple of CruiseNext coupons left over, and it is easy for us to do out of Boston (because we live an hour away). We were sort of done with Norwegian a couple of years ago because the staff was unhappy and unfriendly, the food had gone downhill, and every cruise (regardless of itinerary) had the same "formula" and feel. They redeemed themselves this time! The staff was happy and responsive and helpful - which made everything so much more pleasant. The food - still just o.k., but they were trying, and some things were actually very good in the main dining rooms. Activities - I noticed that they added some interesting activities - things like paper box making, origami, Spanish lessons - not just things that either cost money or are the silly activities by the pool (like sexy legs contests). Someone in our party had 2 food allergies, and we were so impressed and relieved that they were all over that in the dining room, and had the situation completely under control. We like NCL because of the membership you can get to the Mandara Spa for the week, and that always is something we enjoy, and we did! Only complaint is that when my 20-year old daughter had a massage, the massage therapist was rude and too heavy on the cross-sell, which detracted from the experienced. We will definitely consider NCL again when we decide to book another cruise. They redeemed themselves and won us back! Read Less

This will be a very in depth review. First I will go over the bad...then I will go over the good. I cruised with about 45 people in our group. My wife was group leader of 20 cabins. These reviews are from all of us. BAD: The ship does not have a lot of entertainment. 1 theater, 1 small pool, plus a kids pool at the back of the ship. 1 club that plays the same music all the time. Same with the band, the band was good but played same music every day. Overall, we were very bored after 7 days. The casino is obviously rigged. They use auto card dealing and shufflers. We had a group of about 45 people, nobody left there up money. DO NOT gamble on a cruise ship. Cabin: We had a balcony. The room was small compared to Carnival's balcony cabin. We had to have a table removed because when the pullout bed was open, you could not get to the balcony. The bathroom was VERY small.....could barely move around. We had to dry off in the cabin because there was no room in the bathroom. The toilet was so small you had to be a skeleton to even fit on the toilet. I'm 5'10" 200lbs....and I barely fit in there. It was very uncomfortable using the bathroom. The bed was pretty comfortable. Balcony was good. Dining: The food on this ship should be quarantined. We have been on Carnival, Royal Carribean and Disney cruise lines. This was by far the WORST food in the history of cruises. Let me clarify. I'm talking about the main dining and the buffets they offer for breakfast and lunch. I will get to the specialty dining under my good review. We ate at the Aqua and Venetian main dining halls. The Aqua had crab cakes the first day...they were the best thing on the menu...so of course...they never had them again. Everything they served was VERY salty. That is coming from someone who LOVES salt. None of the main entrees were very good. They were at best average or below. The breakfast in Venetian was a joke. The pancakes were hard as a rock...the waffles came out cold. Coffee was horrible. I could go on and on. Service: The service on this cruise was laughable. We gave our room steward a 20 dollar tip the first day, so maybe she would be a little more attentive. That was a mistake. We had our 11 year old daughter in the room with us. On Carnival, she had a different towel animal on the bed every single day. This cruise she got maybe 3 out of the seven days and they weren’t even good ones. Whenever we saw her in the halls, she wouldn’t even say hi. We said hi first….it was like she was trying to avoid us. Somebody in our party asked her if she liked her job because she always seemed so miserable…she said no, I hate my job. Seriously????? We couldn’t believe she said that. We believe her because she seemed like she wanted to jump overboard every time we saw her. Her name was Flavia. She even yelled at one of our parties for asking her if she could clean her room around 3pm because she was sick all day. The rest of the crew weren’t much better. In the dining rooms they made us feel like we were bothering them. Trying to get a drink while dining was joke. It took about 20 minutes, so we started ordering 2 drinks at a time. They could barely understand us when we asked for something, we had to repeat ourselves a few times. The 11 year old ordered a ginger ale….they gave her a whiskey on the rocks. She said mommy this ginger ale tastes funny, so my wife tasted it…it was straight whiskey on the rocks….seriously???? The nicest wait staff person was HAPPY HAPPY WASHY WASHY….he was very good and also Wu Hoo from Cagneys steakhouse. Above and beyond. Other then that, total disappointment. I should request some of my included gratuities back for such poor service. Specialty dining: ABSOLUTELY DELICIOUS!!!!! We ate at the Tapanyaki, Itilain place(I forget the name) and Cagneys Steakhouse. Tapanyaki was VERY VERY good....I had steak shrimp and scallops. They gave me the scallops for free because it wasn't part of the combo. We couldnt even finish all our food it was so much. Chef was great. Italian place was very good...good service Cagneys was GREAT...the waiter Wu Hoo...yes thats his real name....went above and beyond...the food was perfect....we had our gratuities included but we gave him an extra tip because he was so good. Ports and Shore Excursions: Bermuda was AWESOME…I’ve never seen such crystal clear bright blue water in my life. It was truly gorgeous. Horseshoe Bay Beach was stunning. The beach was perfect the water and the views were amazing. We went on a jet ski tour at Somerset waterworks. The tour was great, got to swim with and feed the fish. Their business practice needs some work though. They tried charging my credit card because 2 people didn’t make the tour and they asked to join our group, so SWW decided to just put them under my credit card. I never authorized that. They told me to get the money from the person in my group who I didn’t really know that well. Needless to say, I filed a fraudulent charge with my bank. The caves were awesome. We hired a personal taxi to drive us around all day, he was awesome. We have 4 casino cruises coming up and we are not sure if we are going to use them after this experience. OVERALL. The cruise was fun, the ship was terrible. I will never sail on the Dawn again. Bermuda was awesome. Read Less

The ship left from Boston which made it convenient. The ship was nice, bathrooms throughout the ship needs more attention. Entertainment was average, needs more diverse entertainment. Cruise personnel were very nice. Very small pool. Arrived on Sunday to Bermuda even though most shops closed early on Sunday. The food was very good, loved the chili on the deck near the pool. The drink package was a great value. Again the restrooms needed much more attention. The disembarkation went extremely well. The staff was great and the crew worked really hard, god bless them. The room service was great. The staff at the front desk needed a little more patience with first time cruisers. One of the people who was with the group I was in expressed concern about being rushed and inconsistent information. This was not our first cruise so we addressed her questions and concerns. Overall the experience was good. The guests on the ship were very friendly and we met a lot of people. Read Less

Overall, my experience on this ship was fantastic. I like the smaller NCL ship, as it is not nearly as crowded as the larger NCL ships. The staff is friendly and on top of their game. The biggest drawback on this ship is the lack of quality entertainment options of the larger ships such as the Epic and Getaway. With this said, don't miss the Elements performance in the Stardust Theater. It is very good. Bands around the ship were all very good, but the music by the pool was far too loud. This isn't uncommon, but it really isn't necessary to have it so loud, as it can be heard very well in the far reaches of the pool area and beyond. There were many trivia games, which I enjoyed, but most took place in Gatsby's lounge, which has a very smoky environment with proximity to the casino and cigar smoking room. Even when people aren't smoking, the stale smell of smoke permeates the area. It is also too small to accommodate the number of people who like to play most of the time. NCL has a free ferry that goes to the island of St. George two of the three days while docked in Bermuda. We spent the day doing this and walking all over St. George from the dock and it was a fantastic time visiting the Unfinished Church, Tobacco Bay, and other areas. Read Less

WARNING. If you bid on a Mini-Suite for the NCL Dawn, you may seriously regret it. We are Platinum Latitudes, and bid...not a lot...on a mini-suite and we got it - suite 11150. We were thrilled and excited until we boarded. The first thing we noticed that our cabin was under an overhang which eliminated sun on our balcony, totally. (We did notice it on our deck between 5-6pm one day). Then we quickly realized the real issue of our room - IT WAS DIRECTLY UNDER THE GARDEN CAFE. We try to avoid that kind of location worrying about the traffic above. What we didn't know is that NCL renovated the Cafe a year or two ago by removing the carpeting and installing a tile floor. And that was the real surprise. Every time someone moved their chair above us, we were treated this dragging sound. A Loud sound because it reverberated off the steel beam ceiling above us. Other guests to our left and right were as stunned as we were as we pulled out of Boston Harbor to begin our cruise. The noise didn't stop there, the sound of the coffee carts and cleaning carts treated us to a thunderous rolling across our balcony ceiling and across our cabin ceiling as well. And of course, the sound of heavy footed people and the children running and running. Day and Night - unending. Not one minute of peace...ever...seriously. We asked to speak with the Hotel Director and continued asking by phone and at the front desk for 2-1/2 days before we were 'granted' an appointment with him. The Reps on the Guest Services desk are highly protective of the managers...to a fault. Alain was gracious and understanding, and didn't know why NCL assigned those cabins (port and starboard sides) to guests as they know of the noise issue since the renovation. However, he credited the upgrade amount we paid. We were grateful for that. The only solace the Hotel Director could offer us was an inside cabin to use at night for sleeping. "Keep your suite, but sleep here if you think that will help" Since we were awaken from a sound sleep at night with children using the Cafe as a playground, it helped. And since we were awaken at 5:30AM from the staff preparing the Cafe, It helped. So for our last three nights on the Dawn , we changed into our sleepwear then traveled downstairs to our interior bedroom. It was the ONLY peace and quiet we got on the 7 day cruise. Our balcony door had to be kept closed to avoid the dragging sound. Even then, our cabin was a cacophony of sounds. Forget trying to read a book, or check your emails. It got to be like fingernails on a chalkboard. One day, I timed the silence - 28 seconds was the longest span of quiet in our cabin. Think about that. It's not faint or distant sounds you can't distinguish. We knew exactly what the people above our cabin were doing...pulling out their chair, sitting and skooching into their table. We had expected to hear from NCL about this horrendous situation, but not a word from them to date. We will be writing to NCL CEO and the VP Guest Services to let them know that in our 28 years cruising, this NCL Dawn cruise was the worst ever... regardless of cruise lines. Look, we know that not every cruise will be 100%. We get that, and have dealt with it. But this cruise was very different. And if guests don't speak up, NCL won't know when they have a problem that needs fixing, and nothing will change. But there in lies another surprise... We understand that NCL has been aware of this noise problem, yet they still accept bids and put guests in those cabins - including their most loyal Latitude members at that. SHAME ON YOU NCL...SHAME! Wouldn't it be a lesson hard learned if the NCL renovation designers and the NCL Managers who approved the plan were required to work out of and sleep in those cabins... for just 2 nights. Maybe then, NCL would understand what their guests have had to deal with, and put their comfort (and sanity) ahead of profit ...just for once. We certainly didn't "FEEL FREE" on the NCL Dawn. We felt used, mistreated and trapped for 7 days. BEFORE YOU MAKE AN UPGRADE BID FOR THE NCL DAWN, ASK QUESTIONS ...lots of them. We celebrated our 51st Wedding Anniversary on this cruise. One of our Ushers decided to take his very first cruise. He got a lower deck cabin. He felt bad about our cabin, but said that he would cruise again..on a different ship. We enjoyed ourselves onboard, in fact, I got a break as the two guys would go off together at night. We ate at Cagney's twice - it's just the best and worth the cost. Also Moderno where over did it on the buffet and the meats. And La Cucina was perfecto. The Dawn's specialty restaurants are worth it. The entertainment was just so-so. We almost felt that it was a new entertainment staff with visiting headliners. And talking to staff many were new on this ship or to NCL. The games and activities were enough to keep anyone busy - and it did. It is hard to be objective about the cruise because the noise in our cabin was a constant dark cloud. We love NCL, but will not travel on the DAWN again, and certainly not in a balcony cabin on deck 11. Avoid it. Read Less

I have been on this ship quite a few times, as I am now a Platinum Latitude member. At the time of this sailing, I was Gold. Granted, the latitude rewards are not much, but this time I expected to have discounts for on board shopping and spa treatments, which should have amounted to me saving $150.00. I expected the issue to be resolved after speaking with my cabin steward, who looked into it. (Some free items like water and wine should have been brought to my room, and I noticed I didn't get them.) He politely told me to check with guest services. I did, and they told me they also "didn't have information regarding my latitudes status." So, apparently, it's my problem, according to NCL. Whatever they have in front of them on their computer at the time is what you get. I had expected to resolve this easily. I was wrong. I enjoy this cruise and did have a good time, but because this issue shouldn't have been an issue in the first place, I took off a few stars. I think NCL has serious issues regarding customer service. I've read many other reviews of complaints regarding customer service at the atrium lobby. Seems no one cares to resolve complaints of any kind when you try to speak with people there. I now see they had clear reasons to complain. I did find the crew everywhere else on this ship to be friendly and helpful. The food, entertainment and activities were, as always, very good. I could do without the constant nickle and diming of buying lottery scratch tickets, bonus bingo tickets, paying more for certain food items, even in the main dining rooms on the same menu. Unless you note the asterisk on the menu item, you won't know you're paying for it. How many times must that happen?! I have written my complaints to NCL. I would expect them to resolve this with a refund equal to the discounts I didn't get and should have. I really don't care about the things I should have gotten in my cabin, but I definitely should have gotten the priority disembark that would have meant being able to walk off the ship without being in any line. That took 1 1/2 hours! Bottom line? We'll see how NCL handles this. If they choose to ignore me, which I suspect will happen, I will likely not sail with NCL again. Read Less

A comedian who was very funny. A juggling comedian who was also great. We ate at Cagney’s steakhouse twice . which is a must . Moderno And the main dining rooms are great too. Did not care for the Buffet .The bands playing at the pool were great to listen to. Embarkation was easy just go where they tell you the lines move pretty quick. Disembarkation don’t keep your luggage. Pick a color it is much better than waiting in the line that goes all over the ship. We did one excursion and that was the glass bottom boat. Worth the 69 dollars . A lot of interesting tips about the island from the captain. Read Less

We decided to go on this cruise simply because we live in New England and it departed from Boston. We have been to Bermuda before and love this beautiful island. We found embarkation and disembarkation smooth but it seemed to take a long time. The Norwegian Dawn is an older ship. We did find it difficult to get around -- there are some spaces in the ship that are hard to access. I wished I had a map! We like live music. We heard the Rockaway Duo, the Showband, a band in the Bliss Lounge (sorry, I can't recall their name), and Paul Mullen on piano/vocals. The Rockaway Duo was our least favorite. (The vocalists were often flat!) We loved the Showband, a Jazz band that played in the Atrium. We planned our day around them so we could be sure to hear them. The Bliss Lounge band was good -- we enjoyed them and did go and dance one night. Paul Mullen was very good. After we heard him in the Atrium, we went down to Gatsbys to hear him again, but there was so much cigar smell there that we ended up leaving. The comedian, Julie Barr, was good. We went to three of her shows. I'll admit, I didn't love the mature audiences show. (Why is it that F bombs are considered so funny? I am just not sure.) The best thing we saw was the Elements show. Dancing, acrobatics, magic --impressive and entertaining. We also went to see magician PJ Wen in his own show and loved it. We ate most nights in the Venetian. I enjoy sampling foods I would not want to pay for in an ordinary restaurant. I had risotto, gnocchi, and salmon tartar. All very good. We also tried Bamboo and loved the sushi but were disappointed in the other offerings there. We ate in the Garden Cafe every morning and always found something to enjoy for breakfast. Our daughter ate hamburgers in O'Sheehan's. I was glad there was a pub that was included.. although the portions were small. All in all I found the food to be very good. The service on the Dawn is really great. All the workers there are friendly and helpful. I can't say one bad thing about any of them. We had a couple's massage in the Spa. I enjoyed the hot stone massage. Hubby had a deep tissue massage which may have been a little much for him -- he was sore for days! I liked the massage but not the hard sell for about $400 worth of products afterwards. I don't think I would spend $300 for massages again. We did not do any excursions, preferring to just do our own thing. We went to Church Bay for snorkeling. (We brought our own equipment from home) I enjoyed it, but there are a lot of rocks and the surf was rough. It was challenging for my daughter, who is not the best swimmer. The next day we went to Horseshoe Bay and snorkeled in the cove there. It was much better for her. We brought along a Nikon Coolpix waterproof camera -- taking underwater pictures was really fun. After our time in the cove, we went to the beach, rented a chair and umbrella ($33) and just floated in the lovely, turquoise blue water. The surf was so gentle -- I saw a man there standing in the water with a beer in one hand and a book in the other. The sand in Horseshoe is soft and there are no rocks underfoot. Basically, it's a perfect beach. On our third day, we spent the morning in Hamilton doing some shopping and went to Horseshoe for a few hours before returning to the ship. For transportation in Bermuda, we took either a public bus, van, or the ferry to Hamilton. There is a bus stop in the Dockyard, and Bus # 7 goes to Horseshoe. It's a ten minute walk from the bus stop to Horseshoe Bay. To get to Church Bay, we took a van ($7 per person) and they let us off there. There's a long stairway to get down to the beach. When it was time to leave, we ended up standing on the street flagging down taxis and vans ... finally one stopped and took us back to the Dockyard. The return trip from Horseshoe was not a problem; the vans line up there to transport. We used all American money with no problems -- they made change in American money as well. My 15 year old came with us. She suffered from seasickness while at sea, but loved the time on the island. I don't think I will ever take her on a cruise again, since she was so miserable. For internet, we purchased the social media package, mostly for our 15-year-old daughter, who could not be away from her SnapChat for a whole week. We were very satisfied with it. No, we could not watch videos, and no, we could not post pictures. But Facebook messenger worked, and we were able to communicate with family at home using that. Very helpful. And I did like posting about our vacation, which is something I have never been able to do before from a cruise ship. We bought one package. My daughter was the one who used it most; but I could and did use it also. I would log on, and it would tell me another session was in use and did I want to end that session? And I would end that session (often to complaints from my daughter) and then I logged on, did my quick perusal of my social media, and logged off. Husband liked it because he could use Facebook and Twitter to get the latest sports scores. We were at sea when Aretha Franklin died, and we were able to get the news from Twitter. In fact I did a few quick searches for other things on Twitter, similar to the way I might use Google, and got the info I was looking for. It was unlimited. I ran into a few people who had purchased minutes, and they had to be aware of their use. We did not.It was only slow on our last evening (presumably because people were trying to use up their minutes.) Otherwise we were satisfied with the speed. And, if anyone cares, my daughter was on an iPhone and I was on an Android phone. No difference. My husband and I loved our trip on the Dawn and will certainly take other cruises. Read Less

This was suggested by family and I was a bit disappointed - there were kids running around everywhere and small ones in the pool and the kiddie pool had teenagers in it, The food was definitely not good. Same menu in both dinning rooms - fish and chicken were fried - nothing broiled or baked, an the drinks were watered down. The entertainment going out was not too good but better on the way back. The gift shop had very little suggestions and the items were not really that nice to purchase. Mainly I was disappointed with the food. On the deck burgers, hot dogs and pork chops everyday - not much for people who do not eat meat. Also, at midnight not many places to go to eat or even have something healthy to eat. The ship was so crowded you could not get a lounge chair on the deck all day - and the cushions on the seats where the tables were were wet all the time - they should not have cushions on the chairs. Also, the smoker's lounge should NOT be near other lounges it is impossible to sit in the Gatsby lounge with the cigar and cigarette smoke all over that place. There should be a separate area not near the lounge or bar areas. I could go on and on but I think this is enough because I am sure no one even cares what I wrote. Read Less

We have cruised three times. Recently our family of 20 cruised Boston to Bermuda on the ship named Dawn. We were advised by many friends to not take this cruise. That we would be well served to drive to NY and take the alternative options. The logistics of geting 20 people to NY timely was too difficult. This was a fatal mistake. The ship was old, but not awful. The staff was poorly trained, leaving us to struggle with every reservation we made, from dinners to excursions. The irony was all the employees presented like their number one goal was to provide high quality service, but then had no knowledge, skill or authority to do so. When problems arose, they smiled and redirected you to another desk. I have since tried to resolve issues at the "corporate guest relations", and now I know why the employees on the front line are inept! A few specifics: Do not book a large group for the cruise, as they will not book your cabins together, no matter how many calls your Travel Agent makes. Do not book your Excursions thru the ship. They do not inform you of the regulations and are not consistent with allowing passengers to get off ship. Our 15 year old son was getting on and off the ship with various family members for three days, but one day he was not allowed off, without his parents. The employees decided it was safest to keep our son on ship without family, rather than allowing him to attend the fishing excursion with his uncle and cousins. This resulted in the rest of the family returning prematurely from a dinner half enjoyed in Hamilton. Very expensive dinner not eaten. Also costing family $150 in the unused fishing ticket. NCL refuses to reimburse any of the expense, even though the Excursion Marketing (running non stop on the TVs) pushes how this is the safest most secure way to enjoy your excursions. Making a dinner reservation took a PHD. We would book dinner, and occasionally need to make an adjustment to the number of people coming or location. The employee at the desk could never find the original reservation. The software was so outdated, that the employee could not see any previous messages, without scrolling thru excessive unrelated messages to our party. We got to the point where we requested a printed receipt of the reservation commitment, which was the only way we successfully dined at two of the upgrade restaurants. I think the dinner upgrade package is not intended to be used. It seemed the ship's intentions were to systematically discourage you from using the benefit. At a time when everyone is worried about germs and unclean water on cruises, you would think water bottles would be included in drink package. Not true. You would have to ask for a cup of water, or pay $4.00 (waters bottles are included on Celebrity) WIFI, save your money. We spent more time with the manager in the technology café, and still could not access the internet. Time and money NOT well spent. No reimbursement there. There was a designated smoking area, that was in prime pool real estate, though most smokers and vapors were all over the ship. One day, I was sitting at pool with my 15 year old reading a book. I put my drink on her chair, while I dug into my bag for my lotion and the waitress came over and reprimanded me for giving my daughter a drink. I explained I did not, and the next thing I know, we had three security guards standing with us by the pool. It was silly, but insulting. Also ironic, as there were more 20-30 year olds drunk all over the ship. I did find one employee at the front desk, who empathized with us and discreetly suggested we call corporate. I did and have been given the run around. They require you to send an email to voice dissatisfaction, and close your case with a generic response. I even with wrote a letter to Mr. Andy Stuart, President and CEO and got no satisfaction. Summary, AWFUL. Try another line. Read Less

We took a cruise for Bermuda in August. The boat was overcapacity, we couldn’t attend any show’s or go swimming in the pool because they were too many people. When we reserved the cruise it says 3 days in Bermuda which wasn’t the case we arrived in Bermuda Sunday at 3 o’clock and departed Tuesday 5 o’clock. We always went to the Venetian restaurants witch was very good on the service and the food was delicious. The only problem is the fact they would open so early in the morning so on vacation you don’t want to wake up to take a breakfast.....They should extend the opening hours in the morning. I’ve got to say the evening were boring we didn’t know much what to do since they were no room for the shows . About the excursions we’ve found they were very expensive and the staff wouldn’t give that much information about Bermuda they would just want to sale. Read Less

We loved Bermuda so nice and the ppl are so friendly there. We loved this cruise and are def going to take it again next summer. Best vacation ever. This was our first cruise and we loved it. Would def recommened this cruise escpecially to first time cruisers since there is so much to do and see on the ship and on shore as well. One tip if you want the specialty dining rooms book them at the beginning of the cruise they fill up very fast. By the time we wanted to make a reservation all were booked up. Read Less

I've recently gone on the cruise with my husband and two kids. Overall, the dining experience was good, the cabin was clean, and Bermuda is beautiful. The entertainment was good. I liked the dynamic duo, the jazz music and DJ John Khromer. They also had nightly activities in the Bliss Lounge and the Stardust Theater. They have a casino but I'm not sure about the charges since I don't gamble. However, they do charge extra for everything, gratuities were over $400 for the four of us, 14.99 per person per day X7 days. The cocktails start at $12.95 plus 20% service charge. You can bring you own wine, but you have to pay $15 corkage fee to drink it. You have to give a $25 deposit for a beach towel from the pool area, so you have to hang on tight to the beach towels provided in your cabin. In addition, there's only one pool for adults, so it gets overcrowded. Read Less

This ship was chosen as a family reunion from the Boston area and Bermuda was the choice destination and NCL Dawn was the means to achieve it. From the easy check in to the warm greeting not mention the clean and beautiful redesigned ship..It became a perfect place for us all to enjoy each other. The restaurants accommodated our large group in various sizes on different nights with outstanding food and beverages.. The cabins and stewards are awesome Overall many of the guests were first time cruisers and they had a great introduction to the world of Cruising the excursion for caves and waves and rising sun catamaran were a lot of fun It was great to see that straws have been removed to protect the environment and sea animals The evening entertainment (especially Element) rates #1 to a Las Vegas show... I highly recommend NCL and I will return for another cruise Read Less

We've been on this cruise many times and each time was excellent. The service was impeccable, the food was always perfectly done (we dined at the Venetian, Teppanyaki, Le Bistro, La Cucina and Cagney's, as well as the buffet and O'Sheehan's) and our cabin was more than adequate. Embarkation was a breeze (we are platinum and have early embarkation) and once on the ship we confirmed our dinner reservations and went to the buffet before it got too crowded. The food was plentiful with many choices. Our luggage was delivered before the muster drill so we were able to unpack and get organized right away. Our cabin steward Clockson introduced himself right away and took great care of us. He always had a smiling, upbeat manner and you could tell he loved his job. His towel animals were adorable. We had to make some last-minute changes to some dinner reservations and Lizzet (hostess at Cagney's) and Maricel (assistant Maitre D') were able to get us what we wanted. They were always friendly and smiling whenever we saw them. Our waitress in the Venetian, Noemie, was adorable and took good care of us. We wished her all the best at her up-coming marriage. One can't enter any of the dining rooms or buffet without being greeted by the "Happy Happy Washy Washy" folks who were a riot and made you want to get "washed". The greeter at the buffet was always laughing, upbeat and dancing as you went in. They were so entertaining and kept you laughing. We only saw one performance, Elements, which was fantastic. Bermuda is beautiful and we ate off the ship both nights we were there as we have friends there. The public transportation system is very efficient, and the beaches are just gorgeous. We would definitely recommend NCL and this cruise. We are sad the Dawn is leaving Boston after this season as we've been on her numerous times, but we've been promised that the Gem, which is replacing her, is just as nice. We can't wait to find out. Our first cruise and so glad we chose NCL Dawn. Our mini suite was large enough for the 4 of us. We thoroughly enjoyed our balcony... drinking coffee in the morning and relaxing in the evening. This cruise was very relaxing with lots to do. The restaurants that we went to were all very good. Ate mostly at the buffet because it was close to our room and quick and easy. I absolutely loved the freestyle type of cruise....eat when you want and where you want. The ship was clean and kept that way through the cruise. The staff was very friendly and always willing to help or answer a question at anytime. We chose this cruise to go to Bermuda. Leaving Boston was a breeze and returning was even easier. I would definitely choose NCL again and would definitely go to Bermuda again!!! Highly recommend cruising to Bermuda on NCL Dawn!! Read Less

We chose this cruise because it left from Boston and we could avoid flying. From the moment we boarded the ship, it was one disappointment after another. There were 3 of us in one cabin and when we booked, we were told the cabin had two twin beds and a pull out couch. There was no pull out couch, but a trundle under one of the twin beds. When we complained, we were told there was nothing they could do. The steward pulled out the trundle and we ended up sleeping side by side in 3 twin beds with no room on either side so we had to climb into bed on our hands and knees from the foot of the bed. We are senior citizens, 73-75 years old. Just picture it. The food was mediocre at best. People spoke highly of the Bamboo Restaurant, however we were never able to get it as they were totally booked from Day 1. The seafood they offered was very unusual, no cod, haddock or scallops, but rather fish like hake, perch, etc. The soups were not more than broth with a few veggies floating around. The most difficult thing was trying to navigate the ship. Not all elevators go to all floors so we kept having to walk around the ship to find an elevator that would go to deck 6 where the restaurants are located. Communication was poor and nothing was clearly marked. The most horrifying rip off was the beverage package. They say it's a free perk and you only have to pay a 20% gratuity. which I assumed was per drink. However the cost of the beverage package was $89.00 per PERSON per DAY!!!! So, we were "given" two beverage packages and had to pay $35.60 per DAY! No one could drink that much! The pool area was constantly crowded and the only adult pool was very small. It was impossible to get a lounge chair any day of the week. Near the pool area there was a barbeque place which served hamburgers, sausages, hot dogs, etc which were left under heating lights all day. There were some positives, the shows were all very good, the magic show was extraordinary. The service was OK although slow at times. Bermuda is beautiful and fortunately we booked our tours independently This was our third NCL cruise and I would NEVER go again. Read Less

I wanted something nice but not too far from home as this was our first time cruising alone, my 14 year old daughter and myself. We live an hour away from Boston so this was a no brainer. We have been on many other cruises but we always had other family members along. Royal, Disney and other Norwegian to name a few. We love the cruising concept. All in all the cruise was wonderful. The ship is an older ship so it was showing some wear. The weather for the most part was perfect. We had 2 days of rain/clouds but luckily on sea days. Bermuda has so much to offer. Something for everyone. Staff were very nice. The down sides for me were, on the rainy days, the ship did not have much to offer. We watched movies in our room. 3 days in Bermuda is not enough. They could make it 4 and have the ride home be quicker taking a day and half like the ride there. The pool is so small that sea days, 2300 people trying to find relief on deck or in the pool is almost impossible. I am lactose intolerant so eating was a big problem. I did inform my travel agent who in turn did let the ship know when I booked. But I still had to explain it every meal to every staff. Then the food that wasn't cooked in butter or a cream was so minimal I found myself frustrated most days. And one day even after explaining it to my waitress she still delivered to me a potato with butter and sour cream. And the food I had that meal must of had dairy for I did get sick that night. Cooking for such a large amount of people I am sure is difficult. But dairy allergies are very common. I would have thought they would have made a better selection of foods to choose from or just ways to not add the dairy to mine. The last disappointment was the night activities. We could go to shows but after that the dancing became 18 and older. Only one night had dancing near the pool that we could join. My daughter and I wanted to dance and have fun. But being 14 she couldn't go to the place they had it. I know they are concerned about kids drinking, but like us there are families that want to stay up late, be together and just dance. All in all we loved the cruise. We recommend it to all and will do it again soon. But if the cruise line could consider a better way to handle, food allergies- maybe a bracelet to be worn to alert staff to issues and have more foods easily prepared w/o dairy, maybe adding more family nights to allow families of all ages to dance the night away and to spend less time at sea and more on the island then the cruise would have been perfect. For us at least. Read Less

Weather/Staff was perfect. lots to do all the time. I agree the main dining was so so, nothing to rave about. the room at the venetian was pretty, staff was nice. Aqua so so too, but the room was pretty and staff was nice again. We had the specialty dining and our favorite was Cagneys Steakhouse by far. Rey and Irene Sandoval (bar/wait staff) were our friends for the week and provided exceptional customer service. The food at the garden café was very good and always lots to choose from. Always fresh too. Loved Luz and the male cruise director they were so funny and made our week a lot of fun. We enjoyed the shows and entertainment that was offered. Read Less

We sailed on the NCL Dawn from Boston to Bermuda July 27, 2018. The ship and the destination were excellent. The public areas of the ship were always spotless. Bermuda is such a beautiful, friendly island. Embarkation was a breeze. We arrived at the pier at 10:45 went directly to the desk to get checked in and were on the ship shortly before noon. Headed to the Venetian dining room for lunch. Enjoyed dinner at three of the Specialty Restaurants: Los Lobos, Moderno and LaCucina. Really enjoyed Los Lobos and LaCucina. Also had dinner in the two main dining rooms the Venetian and Aqua. The food as well as the service was excellent. O'Sheehan's was our go to spot for snacks and adult beverages. The bartenders there were super friendly. Shout out to Juanto and Mary! Not a fan of buffet food, so did not eat in the buffet. The buffet seemed small and cramped compared to other ships. Stateroom was small, but clean and had tons of storage. Our cabin steward Mervin did a very good job , and was always friendly, he always said hello and called us by name every time we saw him. Did not go to any of the shows. The entertainment Manila Soul that played in the Atrium were fantastic. Tried out luck at the casino, which was very smokey but did have a win or two. Also Gatsby's was smoky due to the cigar smoking room and the casino that were near there. It was next to impossible to get a chair on deck near the pool. The port side of the pool deck is for smokers, so unless you smoke you don't want to locate there, maybe they should move the smoking area to one of the upper decks away from the pool area. Did not take any excursions organized by the cruise line. We did book a four hour private taxi tour with Quinton Bean. This was the best way to see the island. Quinton was friendly, knowledgeable and took us to the places that we were interested in seeing. He also acted as our personal photographer. Also played a round of mini golf at Fun Golf at the Royal Naval Dockyard. This is not your run of the mill mini golf course; it's 18 challenging holes designed after famous holes in the USA, Scotland and Bermuda. Reasonably priced, has a bar where you can get adult beverages. Disappointed that the Dawn is leaving Boston, was hoping to sail on her again next summer from Boston to Bermuda. The Gem is coming to Boston and will give it a try, have already booked for July of 2019. Hope it's as good as the Dawn! Read Less
