We have sailed on other cruise lines and so this was our first NCL Cruise. The ship overall is good. We were surprised that it was so nice. I believe that it was in the dry dock recently for two weeks for a quick refurb. Getting on the ship was quick. We arrived early at the port for an 11:30 check-in and were eating in the cafe by 11:20. Our rooms were ready by noon. Fastest I have ever ...
My husband and I always wanted to cruise on a newer ship and escape the brutal SD winter so we chose the Viva, Our NCL arranged flight was not great, We flew to Denver over 700 miles west just to fly back that far back to go to San Juan. The flight home through Atlanta made more sense. Our embarkation was fast and efficient. The balcony cabin was a dream. Large bathroom, lovely shower and ...
After sailing on RCL Odyssey of the Seas and Wonder of the Seas we noticed a definite decline in the quality of the food, the cabin service and certain alcohol selections. While RCL has diminished it's food quality in exchange for a "Quick Meal Menu" NCL"s food selections and actual preparation with attention to taste is far superior. RCL's cabin service has been cut down from daily to once a ...
We have mixed feelings about the NCL Prima and the new ship design. Pro about the design is the broken up design gives the allusion of less people on the ship. Con is that the ship is really chopped up and crowded in some areas and hard to get through from one end to the other. We were on the Encore in September and really loved their observation deck area. The observation deck on the Prima is ...
We had booked this cruise kind of last minute, was this or a west coast / Mexico. We had even considered a different line because of the poor experience we had on the Jewel but thought...maybe that was a one off, give NCL another chance? Very glad we did :)
Embarkation in Manhattan was less than great but considering the terminal was built when there were far less people on each ship it wasn't ...
We chose this cruise because it was so inexpensive (our airfare was as much as the cruise); only going to places where walking distances or long bus rides to excursions. Husband uses a rollator for serious back issues. We tried to get spots on snorkeling at both Harvest Caye and Cozumel (HC was sold out on the first day NCL took reservations online. Cozumel was cancelled due to the weather; ...
This is a lovely cruise ship and the staff are very kind and accommodating. We enjoyed the cruise. There are a few things that could have been better and briefly they are: The pool area/ hot tubs were overrun by what I can only call a rough crowd. Picture four hot tubs full of drunk obese people who seldom leave the tubs. They just sit in an overflowing tub all day while the empty beer cans and ...
As far as NCL ships go I liked the Getaway as I also liked her sister the Breakaway. I found the ship roomy with lots of nice spaces and lots of things to do. I use the Spice H2O during the day because it is adult only and the service there is always good. The complementary restaurants were excellent yet redundant on a 10 day cruise. The specialty restaurants were very good and food was plentiful. ...
This 11 day cruise was a lot of fun. Most of the staff was great. We found the guest service staff not as friendly as the cabin steward, bar and wait staff who were all very friendly. o’Sheenans, which is the only restaurant open after 10 or 11pm, was not very good. The food was pretty bad and the service was slow and not friendly like the other restaurants on board. The Jasmine was wonderful. ...
Not a cruise expert here but wanted to chime in as I've read a lot of negative reviews about this ship and I think they reflect individual experiences, rather than a problem with the ship. This is an enjoyable ship if you set your expectations well and time your activities according to movements of crowds. The wrap around deck gives you opportunity to walk with sound of waves and sea breeze. ...
