Let's just start off by saying that the customer service was awful. No one offered to assist in any way for anything, snapped my sail pass card out of my hand several times, never greeted you in passing, and the lines to even get a drink at any of the bars was too long to even bother - no waiters going around either. The food.. awful. Cafeteria food unless you go to the Specialty Dining - which is an extra cost. We did not have the drink package but each time we purchased a drink it was wrong on our account - as in, if it was a 'drink of the day' it should have been $8.95 and it would show up on the account as $14.71. I spent a lot of time at the guest service desk each day to rectify my account - great way to relax. Activities... if you don't play BINGO or Gamble, then just don't even bother. I never thought a cruise could be so disappointing - I felt nickeled and dimed the entire time. Just DON'T.. Norwegian is terrible. Read Less

First, I am not loyal to any cruise line. I just like to try different ship especially the newer one. This is my first with Norwegian. I have heard from friends who has been on this ship that were pretty negative. I refuse to believe them. There is no Perfect cruise. Cruise cannot cater to everyone. There will be good and bad experience on all cruise. But Good should Triumph over Bad. Embarkation - was a nightmare. Terminal was packed as the returning cruise arrived very late. At 11 am, passenger were still disembarking. Many people were lined up for check in. All of a sudden they shut down check in without saying a words. There were no announcement on what was going on, until some passenger started asking question. Since then there were frequent announcement. Due to space and fire hazard, the terminal cannot accommodate more passenger and had some type of coast guard drill. They kept suggesting that passenger should leave the terminal and come back in at 2:30 pm. Many passenger eventually left the terminal. I won't explain in detail since the other reviewer KaKelley was right on. The food was terrible. Not much variety and very dry compare to other cruises line which has many variety. One example: everyday they have one type of baked chicken. It looks similar except they change the name. There were about 3 or 4 days where we had same BBQ chicken. I am sure the chef could come up with a different variety. Music was very loud in the dining room and service is very slow. This was the first of all our cruise where we actually miss dinning room dinner and ate at buffet instead. Entertainment was below par. Majority of the cruise staff here are Filipino. I have nothing against them. They are very good people. Cruise director and his staff is all Filipino. Some of them really need some more coaching. Since they play an important part in entertaining all passenger. Also this was the only cruise where they have some show that have extra charges. Bermuda was very nice. Very easy getting off and on the ship. Internet package is very expensive Norwegian 250 minutes (very slow speed) cost $125. Royal Caribbean 1 day package is about $30 Unlimited Alcohol package on Norwegian is about USD$100 while Royal Caribbean is around USD $70 with more discount promotion. To summarized, our family did not enjoy the cruise. In fact we will be cancelling our next year booking with NCL and would look for other cruise line. It is unfortunate that we fell this way since this was our worst cruise. I hope NCL would seriously look at their food variety and improve on quality. This was also our first cruise where we did not give additional tips. Usually we gave additional tips to some waiter or room attendant. It seems like this NCL has a lot more extra charges than other cruise line and it gets confused on what is included. Please take my review with a grain of salt. I am only expressing my own personal experience. This review is not on behalf of other passenger. We have more fun cruising with Carnival, Royal Caribbean, Princess and Celebrity. We will not be cruising with NCL again. Read Less

I've been on over 13 cruises with Royal Caribbean, Carnival, Celebrity and Princess so far. This is the first time we sailed with Norwegian, but I am sorry to say that this cruise experience was the worst one ever. What a waste of our 10th wedding anniversary trip! Embarkation and disembarkation - the previous ship came back 3 hours late and it delayed the checked in process on us. With no announcement and explanation, the check-in counters were closed suddenly. We were supposed to check in at 11:30am, but we ended up sitting on the floor like refugees with no foods, no water till almost 3:00pm. Some staffs in the cruise terminal were kind of rude to us. For disembarkation, it's ridiculous that we've been asked to have color tags on our luggage, but there is no tag available at customer service desk when we went there. Ship - The ship design is good, but the only theater is way too small. We have pre-booked shows, but we couldn't get in and find seats. The celling of restaurants and rooms are too low, it makes people feel so clouded. There are only two swimming pools on this ship. The kids pool is 1.5-1.7M deep, which is too ridiculous and danger for kids to enjoy the pool. Most of times the water slides and pools are closed for maintenance or some unknown reasons. Cabin - rooms is kind of small compare with Royal Caribbean same type of room. The two pull-down beds are kind of inconvenience for us to get on/off the bed. My husband even hatted his head few time on the bed frames. Also, too much stuffs in the mini fridge and we can't put milk or other stuffs for my son. The shelves inside the closet are not really accessible to put our clothes. TV is too small and so limited channel selections. Same show repeated few times a day. When the closet door is open, half of the TV is covered. Dining - foods quality in buffet and dining restaurants are terrible. most of meats are too hard and dry. There are really less variety everyday. Even pizza are dry. We are normally exciting to have dinner in the dining room, but this time we are so disappointed and even skipped half of the dinners during our trip. The median rare steak tasted almost like beef jerk. Hardly any meals are good in the dining restaurants. The only good one that we had good dinner was in O'Sheehan, with the service from Emmanuel Malinga. He is really good to explain the menu and make sure we enjoyed the foods there. Also, 30% of the cups in the Garden Café are dirty. Some still with foods, lip inks and coffee marks in the cups. Entertainment and activities - Out of 4 water slides, 3 of them are closed for maintenance during our trip. There were no water in kids splash zoon. We were trying to exchange clean towels, and there were no clean towels available for the whole afternoon. Shows on the ship are not attracted at all, so boring and feels like only the host and performers enjoyed themselves well. Halloween trick or treat activity for kids was so unorganized with no clear direction, nor fun at all. Rowen from dining restaurants is the only good entertainer and made us smile all the time when we saw him. Service - lots of waiters and waitresses in Garden Café are not working hard as other cruise lines. They don't clean tables faster enough to let the next group of people to eat. We saw dirty dishes on the tables all over. Part of the celling cables behind our table fell down one night when we were having snacks in Garden Café. Someone finally came to check 10 minutes later. On the way sailing back to New York, the ship was shaky for over 24 hours that made my parents, husband, my son and myself all sick and vomiting in the room till the ship finally arrived in New York. The ship left Bermuda 2 hours late and it was trying to speeding up to make it back to New York. I would say the sailing time management is really bad. Because of the sickness, we wasted two days in the room doing nothing during our trip. Overall, it was a terrible cruise experience for all of us. We even decided to cancel the another trip we've booked with Norwegian next year. I don't think any of our family members, nor myself will choose to sail with Norwegian in the future. Read Less

We had the unfortunate vacation of our lives while going on a Norwegian Cruise on September 9 from New York City. First, this cruise ship, Norwegian Escape is supposed to be one of the newest and best ships in their line-up. I want to tell you that this is the WORST ship that I have ever cruised on and this was my 12th cruise vacation. Here are just some of the problems that I have with this ship. • Whoever designed this ship should be fired! Its extremely large Casino spans the entire atrium area causing second-hand smoke to billow throughout the Deck 6, 7 and 8 atrium areas and beyond. We are both extremely sensitive to smoke and so it made it nearly impossible to stay in these areas of the ship. Smoke was also a problem for us on our balcony, which smelled of cigarette smoke so badly that we couldn’t use the balcony. I thought that smoking on the Balconies was prohibited but apparently this is not monitored or enforced on your ship. Doesn’t Norwegian Cruise Lines know about the hazard of second-hand smoke and the rate of cancer caused by it? At a minimum, smokers should be in a contained space away from non-smoking passengers. Also, there is no large, expansive area similar to Royal Caribbean ships that have a large “Main Street” in which many passengers can enjoy a smoke free environment. • The Atrium was a very small space that was always too small for the crowd of people that wanted to attend any of the games or shows scheduled there. Standing Room Only was an understatement. You should have scheduled many of these attractions in the Theater rather than the Atrium. This was also exacerbated by the afore mentioned smell of cigarette smoke. • The on-board communications was extremely poor! When the Captain made the itinerary change to skip the Bahamas, he didn’t say what we were going to do or where we were actually going instead. No information was a huge problem. In addition, the so-called cruise Director was rarely heard over the ship intercom telling us about things happening on the ship. This was the worst communications we had ever experienced and this was our 12th cruise. Our Cabin Stewart never even introduced himself or herself to us at any time during the cruise. The first few days it seemed like a woman was our Stewart and then a man was the Stewart. We never knew who was responsible for our room. Further, we had several meals where the wait staff forgot to bring items that we ordered or took a very long time to bring our meals. We often waited 20-30 minutes without any contact from the wait staff, which I feel, is unacceptable. Another comment on the staffs’ lack of communication is that we received refunds that were listed as “Refundable Credit” without any explanation. We had to go to the Guest Services desk to find out that the charges were being reimbursed for not going to the Bermuda port. I know other people had the same issue as they also went to the Guest Services desk. • This was an American cruise and I am sure that most of the passengers were from the U.S. On Saturday, most passengers wanted to watch and were expecting to see American College Football on TV. I was very unhappy that it didn’t appear that any games would be televised after several straight sea days. I went to Guest Services and was told that Norwegian contracts through a 3rd party for TV, and that they didn’t offer any football games on Saturday. Instead, we were allowed to watch European Soccer games that we could care less about. Americans hardly play soccer let alone watch it on TV. Are you joking?? Many, many passengers wore college games jerseys or team t-shirts on Saturday and as I talked with several other, we were disgusted that you didn’t offer College Football on TV. What bullshit! You should hire another carrier that shows College and Professional Football for cruises originating and ending in the U.S. This was a very poor decision on your company’s part. This should be rectified immediately. • Apparently, this ship only caters to passengers in the Haven (Ultrahigh Priced) areas. Otherwise, there was no adults’ only area with indoor pool and seating areas where adults can enjoy some quiet time in an air-conditioned pool area. This is terrible customer service. • The lunch menus never changed at the “Taste” and “Savor” restaurants? This was not at all acceptable. What was the issue with not preparing different menus at these complimentary restaurants? Again, many guests expressed the same issue to us during the cruise. This forced many of us to the buffet that we really don’t like to do. • Our cabin was on the 15th Floor in a so-called “mini suite.” After the first two days there were loud banging noises in our ceiling and in our walls that made it difficult to sleep. I can’t imagine what the noises were but someone should check it out in case something is loose somewhere. In conclusion, our trip was ruined by this Company and by this poorly designed and not at all passenger friendly ship as detailed above. This Company certainly broke my trust in Norwegian Cruise Lines, and I will be complaining to whomever will listen about your poor performance and advise people to not book a cruise with Norwegian. Friends of mine were going so i decided to go with them. We were supposed to go to bermuda, but ncl changed it to port canaveral, stirrup cay & nassau, bahamas because of hurricane florence. Found out when i got home that other cruise lines still went to bermuda. It was horrible. First day i fell going to fire drill & lacerated my whole arm. Had to go to medical every day. Approximately 3 days later i fell getting off my scooter & lacerated my leg. Thought i was going to have stitches but they used sterry strips to close the cut. Medical is only open from 8:30 am to 9:30 am. Had to call get it by 9:00 am but it never arrived on time. Then my room phone broke & i could not call operator, guest services or housekeeping to get my scooter. Most of the time my phone did work there operator & housekeeping did not answer. My room rug & bathroom looked filthy. i rented a lift chair & scooter for the trip. when i got to my room both beds were still in there. They told me they would remove them. Finally got them to remove one. I gave up on the other one. I did not get off the boat in port canaveral as i grew up in miami & had already been there. Could not get off the boat at stirrup cay because of my mobility issues. They then cancelled nassau because of hurricane florence. I am 75 years old & the cruise was on my bucket list. The only other thing i wanted to do was have a dolphin encounter. Booked it in bermuda & then again for nassau. Both were cancelled. THIS IS THE REASON I CALL IT THE CRUISE TO NOWHERE & HELL. We're from NYC so the departure location for this cruise was very convenient for us. Unfortunately though, embarking was kind of a mess. We arrived about 30 minutes before our designated embarking time, but do to disorganization, we didn't end up getting called until the same time as the latest time slot, which we were supposed to be well-before. It wasn't that big of a deal though, and we were just excited to finally get on the ship. The Escape, overall, was a nice ship. We enjoyed the common areas and the views from the Garden Cafe. The dining in general was good. We really enjoyed the specialty dining, and definitely recommend Teppanyaki, Cagney's, and La Cucina. O'sheehan's was good for late-night dining. The entertainment was pretty good. The Brat Pack and the comedy acts were great. We also really enjoyed the ping pong tables on the ship. Beyond that though, the activities we wanted to do were pretty all pretty poor. The pool is very small, and the small size is made even worse by the relatively short hours it's open. We like to go late-night swimming/in the hot tubs. That wasn't an option because they all close at 10pm. So unless you want to go swimming in a pool packed to the brim during afternoon/morning hours, you're out of luck. We asked them when the pool/hot tubs opened. They told us around 5:30am. We thought, OK, cool, we'll go to the pool/hot tub for sunrise. We get there, and the pool ends up opening around 7. And it's already crowded by then. Why not have good hours so people who want to go at off times can? Seems very silly. The service onboard the ship was good. We found the staff friendly and it felt like they did care about the guest experience. Unfortunately though, that sentiment ends with the ship staff because it seems like corporate and behind-the-scenes has literally no grasp of customer service and engages in very questionable practices. For us, this was first seen in the shore excursion handling. For this trip we had a single day in the Bahamas, so we wanted to make the best of it. We planned 2 excursions offered by NCL: my girlfriend booked parasailing, and we both booked the Waverunner tour. The night before our half-a-day in the Bahamas, NCL sent us a cold letter about how they didn't get enough people for parasailing so they were canceling it. We couldn't believe that they would cancel a booked excursion the night before because they were at-risk for having under the amount of people they usual have. Our cruise had already been significantly changed because of a hurricane, and now they were cancelling something my girlfriend was looking forward to because it could impact their bottom line slightly. Like I said before, no care for customer service. This left us with nothing to do the entire morning of our single day in the Bahamas. We also booked the Waverunner tour. $250 for the two of us for about 30 minutes of riding a Waverunner. I don't mind paying that, but the experience was falsely advertised. They called it a "guided tour" which we were looking forward to. It was not that at all. It was just "ride fast" in a line for 30 minutes and see literally 0 sights. Additionally, the "tour guides" (again, there was no actual tour), were extremely rude and unprofessional. It was ridiculous. I informed NCL about this experience - and what did they do? In response, they sent me a form letter that addressed none of my concerns and didn't even mention the issues I described. Just ridiculously bad customer service. All in all, though we enjoyed the ship itself, Norwegian Cruise Line's terrible handling of the shore excursions and then lack of follow-up to the problems we had makes it impossible for us to book another cruise with them. They seem to have no regard for customer experience, as made visible by the fact they will cancel an excursion you paid hundreds of dollars for if they don't end up profiting the amount they want to on it. We'll by trying a cruise line that's more customer-centric for our next cruise. Read Less

I'm poor, so cruising isn't something I get to do, needless to say I was very excited about this early birthday trip to what would likely be my only opportunity to see Bermuda. Bermuda was canceled, while that was a real bummer I still wanted to make lemonade of lemons but unfortunately Norwegian failed to deliver in so many ways. We went to a port in Florida where we got a lovely view of a parking lot, there wasn't enough time there to do anything off the boat. I've been to FL a lot and could've planned a week long vacay there for a tiny fraction of what we paid for this cruise and had much more fun doing it. We went to Norwegian's island Great Stirrup Cay, while it was nice the tender there was extremely crowded, we had to use stairs to get there and my bad knee/hip was feeling that hardcore, the beach was packed, and there was nothing to do there. The entertainment on the ship had to be reserved and once the Bahamas was canceled every last thing filled up. The boat was way too packed to do anything without the ports of call to thin out the herd. As for dining every place was so full we never got to try anything outside of the buffet. The drinks were good but it turns out the beverage package does not include every drink and we were charged extra fees when we got drinks, this wasn't disclosed to us up front. The wifi was absolutely terrible, a two minute task would take ten minutes and trying to logout was incredibly frustrating when it's costing $1/minute. We went to guest services about the wifi issues, they sent us to the internet manager who sent us back to guest services who told us once again it wasn't their problem. We didn't want to keep bouncing back and forth as the lines were very long with unhappy customers on this cruise. We were charged $29/day for room cleaning and our room was only cleaned twice, not only because we know how to clean up after ourselves but the insane amount of rocking kept us pretty seasick, we weren't able to leave the room a whole lot, and even if we could everything was booked solid, there wasn't much to do. The room itself was nice (balcony room) but the bed was solid as a rock and that divide in the middle from the beds being pushed together was definitely felt. The TV would occasionally just go out, it didn't time out, it flickered and would cut out, and sometimes have trouble coming back on. The remote only worked sometimes. The speakers weren't very clear as it was difficult to understand anything the captain or cruise director said. The art auctions are fun but wow is Park West ever a scam, do yourself a favor and look into them. It's deplorable that Norwegian allows such fraudulent activity on their ships. As long as the checks clear I guess it doesn't matter. While I am thankful they wanted to steer us away from the storm (which is as much a benefit to them as it is to us) they knew up front what was ahead and denied any form of cancellation refund, and they offered no compensation afterwards, no partial refunds, no future cruise discounts to show they're not so shady afterall, nothing. Even if we were able to take the intended itinerary a lot of things on this ship and about Norwegian was an absolute failure. Read Less

Let me start by saying that we knew the risks of planning a cruise during hurricane season, so we weren't really that bothered by our itinerary changing. What followed is the reason for this review. We were sent to Port Canaveral, Great Stirrup Cay, and Nassau. At Port Canaveral, there's not really anything to do besides the space center, which you really need more time for. So we didn't bother getting off the ship. At Great Stirrup Cay, they don't have a dock for a cruise ship, so you have to get carried to shore and back by tender boats. This process is so time consuming that you only get about 4 hours on the island. 2 hours into it, they shut down all the food stands and bars. Then, the captain skipped our last stop (the main attraction) at Nassau. Now, I understand that we had to go out to sea farther to avoid the hurricane on the way home. What pissed me off is that instead of skipping their stupid private island and going to Nassau, we skipped Nassau. I am pretty confident this was done because it saved them money since they own Great Stirrup Cay. They saved on port fees by not going to Nassau. It's clear they don't care about the happiness of their guests. At this point, I would have expected them to offer SOME type of compensation or incentive for another cruise - ANYTHING. Especially when you consider that our new itinerary was exactly the same as one of their normal cruises, which is CHEAPER than the Bermuda cruise we booked. At the very least, a partial reimbursement for the price difference would have been the ethical thing to do. The other cruise lines that had to change course offered all their guests some type of compensation. Not NCL though. Next, let's talk about the actual ship. A member of our group has been on several Norwegian cruises (and will never go on another one after this). The other ships are apparently laid out the same, except the Escape added 2 floors of guest rooms and holds like 2000 more passengers. So there aren't really any more attractions, but there are way more people to fill up those attractions. That was a MAJOR problem during our cruise. Almost every single event/show/etc on the ship requires a reservation. By the 2nd or 3rd day, they were all booked. ALL OF THEM - not an exaggeration. We decided to try the stand-by line for one of the comedy shows. We showed up 45 minutes early and there were already about 70 people in the stand by line (and the comedy club isn't all that big). We didn't even bother. You basically have to plan your entire trip and everything you want to do by the 2nd day. You can't be spontaneous at all. There are 2 tiny pools they are ridiculously crowded at all times. I guess if you're into the frat party lifestyle where you're constantly grinding against other people all day you would really like this. For everyone else, it's miserable. Seriously, if you put both pools together, they would be about the size of a typical inground pool at a normal house in the suburbs. If that wasn't bad enough, they close all the pools and hot tubs around 10pm. Not for maintenance or anything - they just close them. By 11pm, pretty much everything except one restaurant/bar is closed. We are adults looking to stay out late and have fun on vacation, but that is apparently not on the menu with NCL. The one thing I actually enjoyed, the speed slides, were shut down for HOURS every day. The mini golf course has holes/dips under the green that you can't see until you step on them and almost fall, not to mention the frustration of a great putt randomly changing direction or totally stopping. The Bocce Ball court was tapered downhill from the center on both sides, which rendered it all but useless. I realize nobody takes a cruise to play Bocce Ball, but it's just one more thing on the list. They advertise the zip line that swings out over the side of the ship as a big attraction. What they don't tell you is that IT DOESN'T EVER WORK!!! In fact, 50% of the entire ropes course is permanently shut down. An employee told us that it's shut down because they have no way to work on it and maintain it. So this course probably only worked for the first year of the ship's life and will probably never work again. If you're not familiar with NCL ships, they have an Atrium in the center that is open for 3 floors, with the casino surrounding it on the center floor. They allow smoking in the casino. By the 3rd day of the trip, the smoke has traveled throughout the entire atrium - all 3 floors. This is really fantastic when your wife is pregnant and trying to avoid second hand smoke. We got the "ultimate" beverage package, which includes drinks up to $15. What they don't tell you is that they jack up the prices of everything so that the good stuff is just barely too expensive to get. You can get most mixed drinks and pretty much all beers, but if you're into sipping bourbon or scotch, you're only getting the middle shelf stuff. After all that, NCL wouldn't offer us anything at all. Not even 10% off a future cruise. Not even the difference in price for the cruise we got vs the one we paid for. I have been on Carnival cruises and had a much better time. I hear Royal Caribbean is great as well. I can say that I will never go on another NCL cruise in my life. Neither will any of the 25 other people in my group. That's how bad it was. In fact, I never even write negative reviews on anything, but this was so bad I felt like it was my duty to make sure others don't have the same experience. Read Less

What a greedy company. Very poor customer care. Terrible waste of thousands of dollars for a cruise to no where. Never again. We did not get anything we paid for and they simply didnt cate.On the ship:Pool too small. 2 hot tubs broken. Bathrooms smell of sewerage. Amenities have very limited hours of operation, leaving thousands of passengers to pack like sardines, dont forget we were trapped on the boat for 7 days without docking for 3 days in Bermuda as planned. We " paid " for marriott and got the holiday inn instead. This itenerary was changed several days before sailing. Although we purchased insurance, it would still cost us almost 1,000 to cancel....if we did cancel we would only get it as the partial credit. I believe NCL should have provided a credit for the difference since the new itinerary was not acceptable to us and was decided well before the trip sailed. They did zero. They shipped us to port canaveral This is not an agreeable destination. Its a dock; thats it. Then they put us on a low value rock in the water they own called stirrup cay. It doesnt even have a port....this is not a destination of comparable value. The rocky thing they call a beach had aPurple flag (so theres sharks in the water?!!)massive algae slimey rocks in the swimming areA and murky water with seaweed floating. Gross....lets not forget DANGEROUS , this is not a destination that we paid thousands of dollars for..... then they cancelled the last stop, which was the only stop that was an actual destination and put us out to sea for the remainder ocnn the trip. Horrible to be on a ship to no where. They squandered our money. They simply said "they dont control the weather". That is condescending..no one is suggesting that they do! But they do control EVERYTHING else. We paid a substantial amount of money, the trip was changed BEFORE sailing, we received a substantially inferior trip, (the trip we got was a much cheaper one)...they should have given the option to rechedule. Instead they took our money because" legally" they can. BTW, the forcast had before we sailed and Bermuda weather was perfect. Perfect the entire time we were supposed to be there. Theres whats legal, and then theres whats right. Read Less

We still haven’t gotten money back for not going to Bermuda But other cruise lines did give their customers money back and a money off the next cruise. I won’t be going through them again for a cruise. The food on this cruise was okay. It could be better and also the entertainment was probably the only good part of the cruise. The shows saved my vacation but everything else was no worth the trip. Also the drink package was a good thing to have on the cruise without those two things I would have had a worse time. Read Less

We chose this cruise because of its destination, Bermuda. Two days prior to the cruise departure date we were notified that due to the predicted hurricane Florence the route would be changed to dock at Port Canaveral, the NCL beach island in the Bahamas, and at Nassau. We contacted NCL and requested changing our reservation to a Spring 2019 trip to Bermuda. They rejected that idea. We boarded the ship in New York and departed to Florida sailing south to be ahead of the storm. We did not leave the ship which docked around 1:00 PM. The ship then traveled to the NCL beach island. Passengers were shuttled to the island on small boats - very crowded. We did not leave the boat at this stop. The beach has no shade unless you rent an umbrella or a cabana. We went on this ship for a family wedding. When the ship was diverted because of the weather the Customer Service Rep refused to help in any way. No wedding for the Bride and Groom or the 21 people they brought on the boat with them! Exteamly poor customer relations. The ship is also very poor handicap accessible. They charge a lot for a handicap room and the bathrooms throughout the ship designated for handicapped were always locked. The regular rooms doorways were too small to fit a small walker through and the narrow hallways to the rooms constantly had the housekeeping staffs carts blocking access. We were very disappointed in the way the ship handled the reroute, there were many possibilities to give their passengers a worthwhile trip instead of just floating on the water with no possibility of any port visits. The one stop the ship did make I was unable to get off the ship die to my handicap so I was stuck on the ship for 7 days. Read Less

My family and I went on a 7 day cruise to no where. it was my Mom's and brother's first cruise and how disappointing it was for them on their first cruise to see nothing but a ship for 7 days. I also feel if we could sail around Bermuda we could have stopped there apparently the hurricane never came close. Poor decision making by NCL and the captain for the ship. As a result they did not compensate anyone in anyway for what was the worst cruise I have taken. Royal Caribbean was so much better and their variety of food was great. The dinning experience was very poor to say the least same menu day after day no variation (boring). Waite staff in the dinning rooms were very rude. They could have opened the other places to help compensate for not getting off the ship.No entertainment out by the pool during the day and with not having gotten off the ship for 7 days they should have had a back up plan. I also did not like the fact that you had to make a reservation for every show that you wanted to attend I go on vacation to relax not having to worry about anything and this was just one more thing to worry about. I do have to say my cabin steward was FANTASTIC and so very helpful and our cabin was very clean. Our first time on NCL and it will be our last. And thanks to the CEO's of NCL for not compensating us for such an awful cruise. We work hard for our money and this by far was the worst vacation I have ever been on. DO NOT sail NCL. Read Less

Cruise was supposed to go to Bermuda, changed to Bahamas two days before. Impending hurricane so this was understandable but when we boarded the ship my wife's luggage was delivered to the wrong room. I inquired where it was. The staff said it was delivered to my stateroom. It was not. The staff insisted it was and I brought him to my stateroom and asked him where he left it? He said in the room. I said, well it's not here. He then told me that I would have to go to the main lobby and ask them to look for it. I then did just that but still no luggage. After an hour and a half my wife's luggage was finally located in another passengers room and it was delivered to our room. Immediately we noticed that our ship tag had been cut from the bag. I had triple secured it to the luggage, for just this reason that it wouldn't be lost. Someone removed it. Maybe staff, because I asked how they could lose a bag that was clearly marked and so secure. If it was a passenger this seems worse. My wife was upset that a stranger looked inside her luggage where her personal belongings were located. The ship staff sent strawberries and a bottle of wine for the mix up. Then to add insult to injury the trip was changed again after visiting Norwegian's private island. No Nassau Bahamas. We were given a 30 dollar refund for port charges. We never ported at a foreign port. The cruise staff was very rude during the cruise especially in the dining areas. I understand that the passengers were unhappy and were probably not that nice to them but they reciprocated by giving poor service. When I returned home I sent a certified letter to guest relations; no response. I filed a complaint with guest services; no response. I again filed a second complaint citing my letter and my first complaint with its' assigned number. I also called and they said it had to be in writing. Today they responded by saying that these things happen, the weather, the lost luggage, etc. and that we were compensated with strawberries and wine. Have a nice day. I am deeply disappointed in Norwegian. This was my eighth cruise with them and maybe my last. Read Less

I have traveled many times on cruise ships. However, this was my first time on NCL. I chose NCL because a group of friends were traveling on this ship to Bermuda. Before my trip I needed to get in touch with a representative of NCL and on both occasions it took over 40 minutes of being on hold before I reached someone. These two reps were very helpful, but who needs to be on hold for 40 minutes? I have pictures to document this since this is poor customer service. I wouldnt bring this up, but since I went on the cruise from Boston to Bermuda and all the things wrong with this trip, I needed to bring it up. It makes sense that the cruise diverted to Nova Scotia and Maine when it was supposed to go to Bermuda and we shouldnt be put in harms way of a hurricane. However, no attention was given to the new itinerary and in fact the crew was cut and made for a dirty, unresponsive cruise experience. The ship had cups and dirty trays everywhere. The elevators where over run with guests. The restaurants; even the main dining had long waiting experiences. The staff at O'sheehans Bar was unresponsive and even rude. The Bimini pool bar and grill was closed most of the time causing overflow at other bars around the pool. There was no staff to take any drink orders around the pool, we even had someone approach us and take our drink order who was a guest. The gym was decent. The pool area for kids looked like something crafted / painted in a day by 2nd graders and belonged in the projects. Los Lobos, La Cucina and Cagney's were worth the extra $ for dinner. The cafe garden was over run, crowded, and you would have thought no one had eaten before and couldnt get enough. The guests were like hungry locus on a crop. The guests were angry, drunk and clearly not enjoying the new itinerary. The entertainment was decent. The casino was decent but the casino bar was horrible with long waiting times and I had to get my own drinks on a number of occasions while playing black jack; even after asking for service. The best bar on the ship was Gatsby's Bar. The wait staff was always available and very friendly. They kept their cool and they were servicing not only the Gatsby bar but the overflow from the horrible casino bar, La Cucina and Le Bistro and they did an amazing juggling act. Leila needs special mention since she seemed to be at that bar often and always with a great attitude and smile. The excursions were boring; really nothing to do however Bar Harbor Acadia park was nice; who needs more shopping and bars? I would never recommend this trip; if anything go to Alaska or anywhere else but there is nothing worth seeing on this adventure. I cant believe with the beverage package you can not get bottled water or that it doesnt include the minibar. Read Less

Bermuda! Not to be. Boring Canada when still green is probably the worst of the worst. No time to research, shore excursions far pricier than original destination, staff was ready to leave for home (like we were). So sad to see many people get off boat when they reached Halifax (where they came from) and Sydney and New Brunsick, and Bar Harbor. I thought the Captain made an easy call and did not consider the passengers and that we literally hung out in our backyards for 7 days. Caught a virus. Food in main dining rooms was excellent. Shows were pretty good. But what a BORE. I could have and would have stayed home but we had absolutely no options nor compensation for this sucky cruise. Why did Escape go South when we did not? Why was Prince Edwards Island offered as an alternative? The passengers were unhappy and NCL could care less as they have offered no compensation for this bad call. We would have been out of Bermuda before Florence hit which it did not and would hardly have affected us since the course did not include any of the states that were hit. AWFUL! Read Less

Booked a 7day Bermuda cruise and was sent on a 7 day Canada & New England cruise on the day of departure due to Hurricane Florence. I am glad they chose to keep everyone safe but am shocked at what they chose for a contingency plan (since the Norwegian Escape sailing out of NY still went into the Caribbean). I feel Norwegian could have done several things differently to help ease the pain of the unfortunate itinerary change. 15 mins early is on time...arrived roughly 15 mins early for our requested embarkation time but had to stand around for an hour or so while they prepared the vessel. They did not have enough chairs or space for all the guests waiting. Definitely an area to improve upon as my boyfriend has a titanium hip from serving in the army and long periods of standing can be quite painful. I was told by several people that an itinerary change of this magnitude is quite uncommon but working in the customer service industry was taken aback by the poor customer service displayed both on and off the ship when we were told they were going to do everything in their power to make the situation better. No refunds for a cruise of lesser value, no credits towards future cruises or onboard spending, no complimentary upgrades at all - they even refused to honor a $4.00 speciality coffee even though we had the unlimited beverage package covering drinks up to $15.00. We did encounter some hidden charges (you're taxed on purchases while in US ports) that could have been avoided had better signage been displayed for first time cruisers not familiar with the process. We also opted out of the insurance which we were pleased with because we'd only get 75% of our money to use towards a future cruise. The shows on board were great, impressive to see such choreography with such little space and time. Well rounded variety for all ages and something to do at all times. The concept of an all inclusive cruise is incredible. I'm assuming if we had gone to our intended destination or something comparable my judgment would not be as jaded. The included venues had good food, and the freestyle dining made things easier. We are going to try again but with a different cruise line. I hope your luck is better than ours. Read Less

Our room was extremely loud, it sounded as if they were working on the ship with a steel drum and hammer all through the night! I had to purchase ear plugs. The heat was on in the room even though I had the a/c on the lowest setting. The onboard smoking allowed in certain room wafted everywhere!!! They had us stop at 4!! Before you decide to throw your money away on NCL, rethink your decision! Worst customer service I have ever seen. This is based on over 25 cruises my wife and I have been on. On Royal Caribbean, Carnival and MSC customer service has alway been a pleasure to deal with.Do to weather conditions I contacted NCL customer service earlier in the day and they assured me the ship was not changing its itenary. A few hours later I noticed a little weather advisory link on their website, when I clicked on it the information showed the ship's itinerary had changed. We never received any notification even though they had our cell phone numbers and email addresses. We contacted customer service to try to change to a different ship (even if I had to pay for a flight) and they denied our request. We tried customer service again the next day and got the same response. The only option they gave us was to cancel the trip and lose our money! Just awesome, way to go NCL, that's how to treat customers. We unfortunately decided to still go on the cruise instead of throwing the money away and had the worst cruise of my life! Everyone was upset, the staff on the ship were not very friendly because everyone was angry. We did have the drink package, however the only way to get a drink was to stand in lines at the bar. To add insult to injury while on the ship I had googled to see if the NCL Dawn had any complaints and I found a post that showed that the room we were in had an issue with bedbugs a few weeks before! Before you book on NCL, think about throwing your money directly in the water and save yourself the aggravation! Well the worst thing about this cruise was how many people they pack on the ship. Forget swimming, getting in the hot tub, or getting a lounge chair unless you were outside by 7am. If you are a smoker.. this is definitely not the boat for you. Only 4 extremely small places to smoke on the entire ship. I got yelled at a few times for smoking on the wrong side of a lounge chair. I guess they figured it was safer to have 100 smokers packed around 6 small tables. Completely ridiculous. The food was terrible. First cruise I’ve been on where I lost weight. In 2 of the free dining rooms we had terrible service. Waited 30 mins for a dessert menu that never came one night, and 40 mins for appetizers of soup and salad another night. The waitstaff was either friendly but extremely too busy.. or very rude like they knew they were getting a 20% tip no matter what. At a “glow party” they had face painting.. my 3 year old son waited patiently and politely in line for over 30 mins for them to make an announcement saying face painting was closed, and they grabbed the paint and ran into a crew only room. Try explaining this to a small child. The look on his face was completely heartbreaking. On our last day we went to customer service because of a bogus casino charge on our account and because of the service we received. When explaining about the poor service the staff member rudely told me I should’ve came down when it happened and not have waited until the last day. Apparently it’s ok for their staff to make customers wait, but not the other way around. Th shows were mediocre at best. Only made it 30 mins into after midnight before wanting to fall asleep. The magician they had was good, but definitely directed at an older crowd. Saw the dueling pianos twice. They were good but it seemed hard for them to play any songs from the past 25 years. A song I requested from late 90s was started and after 3 words skipped. I’m 30 years old I don’t want to listen to songs from the 50s and 60s all night so we left. Oh wait I’m sorry they did play “let it go” from the movie frozen *eye roll* The good: Our room steward Arnold was the absolute best. So friendly and accommodating. Some staff were extremely friendly and brought my son free frozen drinks. My son enjoyed the mini golf, splash zone, and rope course for toddlers. Bermuda was amazing. I loved being there for 3 days and really getting to experience being there. Read Less

But boy oh boy where do I begin with the Norwegian escape . FOR STARTERS THE FOOD IS TERRIBLE. Disgusting . My family and I were sick almost every night to our stomachs. They use low quality ingredients, THE FOOD IS COMPLETELY DROWNED IN SALT , & also the drinks are crappy as well. The cleanliness of the boat was not up to my standards whatsoever, many times I was given dirty silverware, cups, glasses, and plates . The entertainment is boring, the shows are not worth the trouble you have to go through trying to book it . That’s right you heard me you have to BOOK THE SHOW ON A CRUISE YOU ALREADY PAID FOR. Okay on to the next problem, the employees are so unhelpful and some are rude and I also experienced a racist encounter at dinner one night. You will run into a few amazing employees , but it dosent make up for the lack of customer service given through most of the employees. I CAN GO ON FOR DAYS ABOUT HOW TERRIBLE THIS CRUISE LINE IS BUT IN ALL PLEASE SAVE YOUR MONEY . Don’t do it . You’ll regret it . You will regret every dime you spent . Read Less

WARNING. If you bid on a Mini-Suite for the NCL Dawn, you may seriously regret it. We are Platinum Latitudes, and bid...not a lot...on a mini-suite and we got it - suite 11150. We were thrilled and excited until we boarded. The first thing we noticed that our cabin was under an overhang which eliminated sun on our balcony, totally. (We did notice it on our deck between 5-6pm one day). Then we quickly realized the real issue of our room - IT WAS DIRECTLY UNDER THE GARDEN CAFE. We try to avoid that kind of location worrying about the traffic above. What we didn't know is that NCL renovated the Cafe a year or two ago by removing the carpeting and installing a tile floor. And that was the real surprise. Every time someone moved their chair above us, we were treated this dragging sound. A Loud sound because it reverberated off the steel beam ceiling above us. Other guests to our left and right were as stunned as we were as we pulled out of Boston Harbor to begin our cruise. The noise didn't stop there, the sound of the coffee carts and cleaning carts treated us to a thunderous rolling across our balcony ceiling and across our cabin ceiling as well. And of course, the sound of heavy footed people and the children running and running. Day and Night - unending. Not one minute of peace...ever...seriously. We asked to speak with the Hotel Director and continued asking by phone and at the front desk for 2-1/2 days before we were 'granted' an appointment with him. The Reps on the Guest Services desk are highly protective of the managers...to a fault. Alain was gracious and understanding, and didn't know why NCL assigned those cabins (port and starboard sides) to guests as they know of the noise issue since the renovation. However, he credited the upgrade amount we paid. We were grateful for that. The only solace the Hotel Director could offer us was an inside cabin to use at night for sleeping. "Keep your suite, but sleep here if you think that will help" Since we were awaken from a sound sleep at night with children using the Cafe as a playground, it helped. And since we were awaken at 5:30AM from the staff preparing the Cafe, It helped. So for our last three nights on the Dawn , we changed into our sleepwear then traveled downstairs to our interior bedroom. It was the ONLY peace and quiet we got on the 7 day cruise. Our balcony door had to be kept closed to avoid the dragging sound. Even then, our cabin was a cacophony of sounds. Forget trying to read a book, or check your emails. It got to be like fingernails on a chalkboard. One day, I timed the silence - 28 seconds was the longest span of quiet in our cabin. Think about that. It's not faint or distant sounds you can't distinguish. We knew exactly what the people above our cabin were doing...pulling out their chair, sitting and skooching into their table. We had expected to hear from NCL about this horrendous situation, but not a word from them to date. We will be writing to NCL CEO and the VP Guest Services to let them know that in our 28 years cruising, this NCL Dawn cruise was the worst ever... regardless of cruise lines. Look, we know that not every cruise will be 100%. We get that, and have dealt with it. But this cruise was very different. And if guests don't speak up, NCL won't know when they have a problem that needs fixing, and nothing will change. But there in lies another surprise... We understand that NCL has been aware of this noise problem, yet they still accept bids and put guests in those cabins - including their most loyal Latitude members at that. SHAME ON YOU NCL...SHAME! Wouldn't it be a lesson hard learned if the NCL renovation designers and the NCL Managers who approved the plan were required to work out of and sleep in those cabins... for just 2 nights. Maybe then, NCL would understand what their guests have had to deal with, and put their comfort (and sanity) ahead of profit ...just for once. We certainly didn't "FEEL FREE" on the NCL Dawn. We felt used, mistreated and trapped for 7 days. BEFORE YOU MAKE AN UPGRADE BID FOR THE NCL DAWN, ASK QUESTIONS ...lots of them. We celebrated our 51st Wedding Anniversary on this cruise. One of our Ushers decided to take his very first cruise. He got a lower deck cabin. He felt bad about our cabin, but said that he would cruise again..on a different ship. We enjoyed ourselves onboard, in fact, I got a break as the two guys would go off together at night. We ate at Cagney's twice - it's just the best and worth the cost. Also Moderno where over did it on the buffet and the meats. And La Cucina was perfecto. The Dawn's specialty restaurants are worth it. The entertainment was just so-so. We almost felt that it was a new entertainment staff with visiting headliners. And talking to staff many were new on this ship or to NCL. The games and activities were enough to keep anyone busy - and it did. It is hard to be objective about the cruise because the noise in our cabin was a constant dark cloud. We love NCL, but will not travel on the DAWN again, and certainly not in a balcony cabin on deck 11. Avoid it. Read Less

My family and I tried to see a comedy show on the last day, people were saving seats for there family it was hard o find any open seats the cruise director came out and said for all you that didn’t get seat sorry and shut the door. We complained to guest services and the manager said you would have done the same thing. What a disgrace. When we tried to get a sit in the dining room they turned us away, they said to get seating in the other dining rooms. When you look in you can see empty tables. I had a bday for my 11 year old son, they would not put tables together we had to have separate tables. It was a nightmare. Pools are small and limited, forget about getting a chair. Staff is rude food is not great, don’t try to take a photo because they let people walk up the stairs while you are posting for your family photo. My list keeps going. Not nearly enough room around pool deck. In general the Haven is not worth the additional fee. The haven desk personnel were on knowledgeable and friendly. Haven restaurant selection was limited by the amount of days of the crews. The common area food choices were poor compared to other lines on the market. The butler service was outstanding and the housekeeping was as well. Consider ships with a greater crew to passenger ratio for a better present experience. This was extremely disappointing for sure of its age. The level of service and concern for the amount of money was far less than any cruise we’ve experienced today. The overall treatment for this haven experience was far less than anticipated and advertised. Do not expect any special accommodations. Read Less
