Food was terrible in all the places on this ship. We were in all the main dining rooms & 3 specialty restaurants. Pools were sad. They were either way too overcrowd or closed for an event or cleaning. Chairs were impossible to get if the pool was actually open. Service was average and most others were also complaining. Room was okay, basic room, normal balcony. It felt like they tried to cram too many people on one boat and forgot about creating space to breathe. The entertainment on the boat was okay but poorly planned as they jumped from one theme to the next. I was very excited to try this as the pictures looked great but was disappointed. If you want something basic for a ton of money than this is the cruise for you. Royal Caribbean is so much better and I suggest sticking with them. Not worth double the price for half the experience. TLDR: gorgeous ship, small rooms, fair food, great service, long waits for Manhattan restraunt, only one pool (dissapointing), gorgeous port with lots to do (but expensive), very great snorkel excursions! Embarktation: quick and painless! We were on the ship in no time. Although, they neglected to add the Ultimate Beverage Package to my card so I had to spend some time at customer service getting that settled. Ship: the ship is very large, and very clean. You get what you pay for - lots of artwork, decorations, and ambiance. Cabin: the cabins are very small. Signifigantly smaller than cruising another crusie line. We had a stateroom and another guest in our party had a balcony - and that was not impressive either. Room service is daily - our attendant was wonderful and prompt. Although, we couldn't help but notice our sheets and bed was simply made up and not changed daily (this was because of a small blood stain produced by one of us from a cut - that was prensent on the comfortor the rest of the cruise). Dining: lots of "complimenary" places to dine, but be sure to have a reservation or you wont be eating there. The best service was in Savor, the absolute worst service was in Manhattan (took 2 hours one time to get our food, and close to 1.5 hrs the second time). The garden cafe has quite the arrangement, although, I was not entirely impressed with most of the food I ate. There are two meals I considered "deicious" the entire cruise (and one of those was in Bermuda). Entertainment: book your tickets ASAP. The comedians were amazingly funny and interactive - this was the BEST part of our vacation! Some of the venues are small and if you do not book you will not get in, unless you are first for standby. Never any chairs for lying out - everyone puts their stuff on them and walks away. Only one pool was VERY dissapointing for a ship with 4k people on it. Also alot of the attractions close too soon.. The last night the captian said all activities are extended for an hour, which was not true as we were kicked off the Bocci court to close it down at its usual time of 10. The gym was small and always too packed to even get on a machine. Service: our room attendant was fantastic (room # 14623) she was prompt and very kind!! Most of the bartenders were nice, but A few were not - especially at the 5 O'Clock somewhere bar they are not so nice.. The waiters/waitresses in the restaraunts were very easy to talk to and attentive. Our only bad service expereince was our last time in the Manhattan. The food took a long time and the waitress was short and took food before we were done even though we said we were not done. Everyone in the cafe was excellent! Port/excursions: the port is beautiful and clean - and offers a free ferry to the ofher side of the island! Taxi drivers will rob you for $$ but hey thats to be expected. The excursion we went on was a snorkel shipwreck/reef combo for $99/person and it was worth it! A gorgeous boat ride to a coral reef - the water was rough but the crew breifed us on safety and even offered to refund us if we didn't feel safe in the water! Free rum swizzles ended an amazing snorkel! Read Less

This review is coming from an experienced cruiser. This is the only bad review I have ever written. I have been on too many cruises to count...it's somewhere around 25 cruises in the past 20 years. This was my 5th on Norwegian and they have continued to go downhill each cruise I've taken with them. We selected if for the itinerary (2.5 days staying at bermuda port) I was excited to go on such a large ship but it seemed that not everything was made proportionately larger. They just made more guest cabins without increasing public open spaces proportionate to the needs of the 4200 crowd size. It was crowded and cramped. people on top of people. The staff to guest ratio was not what I have experienced in cruises of the past. Norwegian disappointed on so many levels: 1. The activities (trivia, etc) normally done in a small lounges is done in the lobby atrium right next to the guest services desk. This was loud and noisy. The furniture was big and bulky and folks were moving it all over the place to get a good view of the activity stage. This meant to walk through the lobby, you were climbing over and weaving through people and furniture to get around the guest services desk. 2. The photo area told us we could make an appointment at the studio without telling us there was a HUGE price increase and we cannot order any normal 8x10 prints-they only offered canvas wraps ranging from $1200-$4000. Even if you take your picture in the hallways, they were charging $70 "sitting fees". 3. Dining room food in Taste and Savor was sub par and the service was horrible, it took 3 hours to finish dinner waiting 45 minutes between courses. Couldn't get a drink to save my life either. We finally gave up and defaulted to Cagney's and Bayamo. both were very good service and food but with our group of 10, it cost us $350 per night to just get decent food and service 4. Lines for everything and fighting for reservations. So much for freestyle cruising...more like free-fighting. Everything was a struggle. Even when you had a reservation made in advance prior to the cruise you still had to wait 30 minutes for your table. 5. We had the mini-suite with balcony. This is the best room you can get without going Haven level. room was clean but robes were not there (as is usual), balcony glass was dirty. we had to lean over to clean it ourselves to see the water. 6. They claim there are so many eating options.....they are there but rarely open. They push everyone into the buffet and O'sheehans. The small restaurants and bars are rarely open. We stood in line for one specialty lunch place for 20 minutes, by the time I got to the hostess stand, they said "sorry, we are closing". It was extremely bad service. Coming back from shore: Disappointing that when you have thousands coming back onto the ship at 2:30 all of which are hungry and they closed all the lunch places leaving you only the trough and brew buffet upstairs. It was a zoo with people struggling to get at the food and find a place to sit. Better planning and leaving a few lunch options open for when everyone gets back from land would have taken care of guests...instead, they just didn't care and stuffed us all with one crappy food option. 7. Buffet food was terrible. just don't go there, really. Everything was cheap cafeteria food normally served on college campuses. 8. This ship lacks a beautiful central atrium. There is nothing pretty about this ship. It was plain and kind of ugly. 9. We were nickle and dimed to death on this cruise-I am surprised we didn't get charged for the air we breathe. 10. Couldn't get into any shows. everything was full within one hour of being on the ship. so there was NO ENTERTAINMENT for us. They made the auditorium so small that you can't get in. Overall, I felt like I was a nuisance to the staff rather than a guest. We were cattle that needed to be fed. I heard several people murmur "moo" as they were in crowded spaces and fighting for everything they needed. Several conversations with other passengers confirmed what I was experiencing wasn't unique. Stay away and select another ship/cruise, whatever. just don't go on this ship. Read Less

My wife and I love cruising to Bermuda, its an excellent way to experience the island and gives lots of flexibility to explore and get on and off the ship on your own terms. It also substantially reduces the daily expenses as Bermuda is rather expensive for tourists. One notable change since the last time we cruised to Bermuda is that NCL has procured their own Ferry providing free service to St. George from the Dockyard. This provided an extra cost savings which was enjoyable, but also seemed to push a greater number of cruise guests to the town, and Tabacco Bay than we previously experienced on an October trip to the island. We chose the Escape because it was a newer ship, a larger vessel than we had cruised on before. We've experienced Bermuda on the Dawn out of Boston, and cruised many other times on the smaller class of ships. After cruising on the Escape, there was a clear difference in the cruise experience as the crew to guest ratio was a bit lower which definitely impacted service. Bar service was normal, with quick and attentive bar tenders, but the sheer volume of people made for less enjoyable experiences in specialty dining and entertainment venues. Main dining rooms proved to be staffed well, and produced a good pace of service. The Maderno Brazilian Steak House had excellent and quick service, but some of the meat was slightly over cooked, which is not out of the ordinary for the style of restaurant. Bayamo produced slightly overcooked seafood, and some of the prawns that I had were quite fishy in taste but the rest of the meal was good. La Cucina was good, but the food wasn't stellar - it just met expectations though the service was less attentive later in the dining experience than in the first half. The overall meal times for some of the specialty restaurants seemed to be extensive (2-2.5 Hours in length). This wasn't bad, but certainly could have been faster. We loved the District Brewhouse for entertainment, specifically Beau Tahana, who was amusing and fun to experience. We also enjoyed the dining at Food Republic. The service and food there was fantastic, we ate there three times because each time we went, we saw other menu items we wanted to try on another visit. One of the primary differences of this ship and its size was the impact it had on our choice of entertainment. We had high expectations for Howl at the Moon in the comedy club, but once we seated ourselves prior to the show, the entire room filled with more guests, standing to exceed capacity. Our seats were in the back, so the standing patrons blocked our view of the show - we promptly left and went to the District Brew House. Additionally, the experience of having to reserve your seats for the shows was a bit ridiculous. All the show times filled up with reservations, but you can always get in because some people never show - this was something we found out about halfway through the trip and would have been nice to know that you can always go standby for the shows. On other ships, it was always first come first serve to shows, a format that we enjoyed better than this ship. We went to Choir of Man, which was excellent. Absolutely one of the best shows we've seen while cruising NCL - if you get a chance to see their show while they're in the US touring 32 states, you should. The pool deck experience for days when the ship was at sea was crazy busy. The pool size for the volume of people on the ship was definitely not sufficient, and the deck chairs were always 100% reserved. We tended to avoid the pool deck as it seemed over crowded on most of the sea days. Our balcony stateroom on the ship was better than the staterooms on some of the smaller ships, simply because the bathroom was laid out better and provided more room so as not to make it seem like a closet with a toilet and shower. Our stateroom steward was excellent, very friendly, always prompt and courteous. We've never had a bad stateroom experience on our cruises, so this was no different and upheld the high quality standard we've come to expect. The only negative that we have for the stateroom experience is generally that the mattress could have been a little softer - but overall we did get good sleep in the room. We enjoyed the cruise, and especially Bermuda, but the lower quality of service at restaurants, lower food quality, and the crowded / fully booked entertainment options knocked this rating down from Very Good to Average. First time cruiser and not knowing what to expect, I found this Norwegian Escape to be mostly enjoyable (overall). The crew are all friendly and accommodating and I never saw any crew member no smiling. The ship is very large and there are numerous activities available on board from zip lines to water tube slides, to basketball courts. Plenty of activities for all ages. Numerous bars and lounges to choose from along with main dining rooms and specialty dining. The food was good and drinks flow all hours. With all that being said I did find some areas that could use improvement. I think that if there are 3 dining rooms, they should serve different choices and you should be able to make a reservation instead of having to wait 45 minutes to be seated. I also think that the "pool" area is the main attraction on board the pool itself should be bigger than it is. I also think that small/young children should not be allowed (yes, there are signs that say adults only, not really enforced) . I also think that you should be able to sit at a bar/lounge and order appetizers. The elevators need improvement to be more efficient. After weighing pros and cons I did enjoy the trip as I understand nothing is ever really perfect, but it was enjoyable....get the beverage package Read Less

Never cruises on NCL- the upgraded dining and beverage package sold the 8 of us. Cruises out of NYC to Bermuda- ship is very nice- all bars, restaurants casino etc are centrally located between 2 Decks which is very convenient. Wvhad a mini suite on Deck 14, our kids had outside cabins with balconies-rooms were very nice-beds we’re very comfortable.Embarkation was very smooth took about an hour from entrance to terminal to first drink at the bar at H2O- in the adult pool area. Disembarkation was a nightmare- Not enough elevators, and after waiting a 1/2 hour and still not getting an empty elevator- we jumped our 50#luggage down 7 flights of stairs to the area to leave the boat...TOTALLY UNACCEPTABLE! NCL you could do better! Two things that you need...the upgraded dining package and the upgraded beverage package. We had a 4 nite dining upgrade, which offered a number if good restaurants like Cagneys, Moderna, La Cucina and Tappenyaki. Food was generally good to very good in these places..One nite we ate in the Manhattan Room which is part of the NCL regular dining package. Slow service, very small portions, bland food...eat at any other venue than the dining rooms- a waste of time! The beverage package is excellent-unlimited alcoholic drinks with a naxcost of $15 per drink- inclusive if all frozen drinks like pinas and mudslides. If a liquor is more than $15, you pay the difference(I like Hendricks Gin) which cost me $1.00- in a weeks cruise that was the only liquor I paid extra for(Tito’s,Bombay-Tanqueray,Veefeater etc) were no charge. The barstaff is excellent-look for Lilli or Vinny by the Adult pool- H2O- great servers, drop them some extra cash- you won’t be sorry or thirsty!(Tell them Greg from the 6/24 cruise sent you) Entertainment was so-so.. the adult comedian at 11pm provided a few laughs- the Howling at the Moon was disappointing- expected it would be more fun. Bars are plentiful- each offers something special including a brew pub with 24 bees on tap-Jimmy Buffett Margaritaville and many others all over. Casino was large and didn’t seem over smoky-The staff from the housekeeping to the dining and pool areas are very friendly and helpful. The ship is large and very stable! Some negatives that NCL should address- they have a kiddie pool and a adult pool- enforce those rules! We saw many kids under 10 inand around the pool including the Adult Jacuzzis- every day we saw little tykes sitting in the hot tubs with little kids- which shut out adults who wanted to use them. Changeup the music at the pool- mist mornings there was no music until 11- and you’d get an hour if Jimmy Buffett tunes- then a band till 2- than 2 hours of Hip Hop- Urban and Latino music! The average age at the adult pool was about 45-55, certainly not the demographics for Hip Hop- no 60’s,70’s,80’s or 90’s tunes at all during our week. The scene was the same at the White Hot-fayglo party on Fri nite 1030pm fir adults only... tons of kids between 12-18-even though thee was a similar party at 830 for them- again no enforcement from NCL. The music they played was over 1 hour straight of Techno songs- again the average age of the crowd was similar to the adult pool..we had 6 young adults with us26-31 and they were bored stiff by the choice of music - again no songs from the 60’s to 2000’s... bad move NCL Read Less

My husband and I really enjoyed our cruise on the Norwegian Escape and would go again. Stateroom attendant was very nice and accommodating. Loved having service twice a day. Towel animals made us smile. Our balcony stateroom was excellent. Very comfortable. Food was delicious all over the ship with few exceptions. We did not feel the need to visit specialty restaurants except for one, Jimmy Buffett’s Margaritaville, which we really enjoyed. It is uncomfortable as a passenger to see so much food waste, so I think the buffet offerings could be scaled back a bit. Staff was very pleasant, some more outgoing than others, but only because they seemed more confident about their use of English. Loved the entertainment. Favorites: “After Midnight,” dinner entertainment in the Manhattan Dining Room including the motown soul singers/dancers, Latin band that did pop like Santana and Eagles (especially guitar player for “Hotel California”--amazing). We also liked the "Brat Pack" and the magician on the final night. Weren’t able to get into the Escape Room because hadn’t booked that right away on board or in advance. Game shows such as Newlywed Show and Dance Off were hilarious to see on the TV (didn’t catch live). Suggestion for the "Brat Pack"-- it really isn’t appropriate for children. The ship should just make it 18 plus. Don’t really understand how the ultimate drink package could be worth it for anyone who drinks less than 10 drinks a day, so we didn’t go with that, but the soda package is a good deal. Had a drink here and there. They were fine. Bar service was really quick and efficient. Drinks with dinner consistently took a while to come, whether iced tea/lemonade, soda, or alcohol, so order those right away. Manhattan Room was such a nice dining venue. Loved the others as well. It was great to have the flexibility to eat when we wanted, just the two of us. Too many smoking areas on board. Also, the location of these smoking areas means that smoke flows into nonsmoking areas, which is off-putting. I don’t want to be around any smoke. When embarking, just be sure not to have your cell phone out in the terminal and to have your passport ready and open to the page as you near the front of the line. They should have signs to indicate this but they don't. Long lines for disembarking, especially for those of us carrying luggage, but they moved fairly quickly. Just be prepared to walk in a long line. We didn't do any shore excursions offered by the ship. We visited Horseshoe Bay Beach via passenger van, $7 per person, available at the pier, then used similar transport back. Very easy. Beautiful beach. We also took the local ferry, very close to the pier, to go to Hamilton and back. Took the Norwegian ferry over to St. George. All well worth visits. We aren't really snorkelers or adventurers and didn't want to do museums, etc. on this visit but there are so many options. Bermuda can be a bit pricey so we mostly returned to the ship for dinner and just did lunch onshore. Overall, really enjoyable, plenty to do for everyone, loved the cruise. I would travel again on this ship. Read Less

Embarkation was quick and easy for most of the members of our party. We were checked in by a crew member in training. Our check-in process was slow, but we were understanding. The ship was nice and up to date. Our cabin was probably the smallest room we have ever had on a cruise ship. We did not eat at any of the speciality restaurants. Why pay for food when it's already included? Service in Taste and Savor was very slow. The Manhattan Room was a lot better, but my family preferred to eat at O'Sheehan's. I enjoyed the entertainment, but then again, I didn't pay for any of the speciality entertainment. I would have like to see The Choir of Man show. Stateroom service was fine. The kids enjoyed mini- golf, rope course, water slides, and of course ice-cream. The Ultimate Beverage Package was awesome. I can't comment on the kid's programs, because my kids never participate in them. Read Less

This was our first time visiting New York City. We stayed two nights at Hampton Inn North close to Times Square. We went to see Escape to Margaritaville. We really enjoyed the show. At the end of the show Jimmy Buffett and Pit Bull came out and sang Margaritaville with the cast and audience. We enjoyed Central Park also and ate our share of New York pizza. It was out of this world! This was our first cruise to Bermuda and 4th cruise on Norwegian. The weather was great overall. The seas were calm for the most part. A little motion on the trip back to New York. Embarkation in New York was fast and seamless. We arrived around 11:00 and as soon as we checked in and got our cards we boarded immediately. NCL personnel were all pleasant and helpful. It probably took less than an hour. We got under way on time and sailed past The Statue of Liberty and then under the bridge. Muster was probably the most unpleasant part of the cruise. So many people packed inside the ship. The temperature rose rapidly due to all the body heat. The rooms were ready a little later than usual. Maybe by 3:00 but that wasn't a biggy because we got to have a couple more celebratory drinks. We had Dinner that night in the Manhattan Room. It was very good. Dining overall was very good. We ate at three Specialty Restaurants, including Pinchos Tapas, Maderno, and Le Bistro. We ate breakfast at Savor, O' Sheehan's and The Buffet. We preferred Savor and O' Sheehan's due to the lack of crowds that the Buffett had and we enjoyed being waited on. Bermuda was great! Very clean, and never felt threatened or harassed. We booked one shore excursion our self on the Bermuda Triangle Twilight Cruise. It was fun and lasted about 1.5 hours. We went out over a ship that had been sunk in the channel about 125 years ago. We were in a glass bottom boat so we got to see lots of fish and corral. The crew were very knowledgeable about the history of Bermuda. We took the ferry to Hamilton on the first night in port and enjoyed a couple of drinks in an Irish Pub with some chicken wings and watched the Goombay Dancers go down the main street. Catching the ferry back to the ship, I advise that you get in line early. We took the Norwegian supplied ferry to St. George on another day and enjoyed looking at the old buildings and had lunch at a local pub. $$$ but good. We shopped in the local shopping area at the Royal Naval Shipyard and my Wife got a good deal on some Pandora bracelets. We also went to the National Museum of Bermuda and spent a couple of hours there. If you like history I highly recommend it. On the last day we went to Snorkel Beach and just chilled out until it was time to get back on the ship. Went down a couple of water slides on the ship. That was fun. Also spent some time in the Spa Thermal Suite. Great place to get rid of sore muscles and chill out. Disembarkation wasn't too bad. We had a transfer to the airport. The only problem with that is we had to wait a pretty good while on about 5 people. I think we left a couple. Overall a great trip! Read Less
