Having sailed NCL several times before and reading reviews of the Gem, I looked forward to another enjoyable cruise. Sadly, we were disappointed.
The ship is very well maintained. The staff, excellent (except some non-helpful Shore Exc. staff). The majority of the public areas and venues are very nice. Our favorites where the Great Outdoors and the Spinnaker Lounge.

Chose this cruise because of the itinerary and price. We found the overall ship to be in good shape and clean. The staff was excellent and very helpful. Stayed in a Haven suite and found the cabin to be clean and good size for my wife and I. We found the food to very good and restaurant staff to be great. Overall, we had a great time. This was our first NCL cruise, only cruised Princess in the past. We went with another couple and we all had a great time. Last year we were on the Breakaway from New York ( round trip) this week. It wasn't offered in 2024 so we flew to Miami ( which cost a fortune for the five of us) grandparents, daughter and an 11 and 8 year old. We were in a two bedroom suite in the Haven. We sailed on the NCL Gem from 2/16-2/19. It was just hubby and I, we’re experienced cruisers with NCL and Royal Caribbean. For starters, I love the size of the Gem. I have been on the Getaway few years ago which at the time was one of the biggest, and since then only sailed on medium-sized ships.

This is our 4th Norwegian cruise and my husband and I have cruised 30+ times. We decided to take another Norwegian cruise, after the past two years of not so great of an experience on Carnival. Overall, we enjoyed ourselves and had a lovely time.

I've found you either love cruising, or try it and find that cruising is not for you. We fall into the former bucket and have been on 20 odd cruises over the years. We've sailed with NCL, Royal Caribbean, Celebrity and Princess, and generally find more similarities than differences across lines. That said, we tend to prefer NCL.
