This was our sixth cruise and first with the Norwegian line. The Open Bar was fantastic and there were so many bars we really never waited for drinks. The staff walked around and served drinks poolside and in the evenings during the shows. With that said, the food was not the quality I have had on other lines. We felt the food was below average in the buffet and main dining rooms. We did not eat at the specialty restaurants and I would highly recommend trying those. They have to be better than what we were served. If you are looking for a cruise with fantastic food and quiet relaxation you need to keep looking, this one isn't for you. On the other hand, if you are looking for a fun filled weekend with plenty to drink and lots of partying this is the cruise for you. The DJ's were great and the poolside band was excellent. The passengers were lively, younger, and always ready for a good time. This is not a boat for children because there was not much for kids to do. The ship was very clean and in good shape for its age. It lacks the bells and whistles of the bigger ships but I feel it was fine for a weekend trip. The staff wasn't as friendly as on other lines. We didn't even meet our room steward until the second evening! With that said, it was a weekend trip. A good value if you enjoy drinking, listening to music, and hanging out on the pool deck. The Great Stirrup Cay stop was excellent and had enough chairs for everyone including food and drinks. Read Less

A simple ship that does it right. The open bar concept helps keeps kids off the ship. There were very few families. A pretty good mix of young and older. Definitely have the late 20's and 30's crowd that mixed well with the 50 and 60's crowd. Definitely a good 3 or 4 day get away trip. Although everyone had unlimited booze, I saw fewer wasted people on this ship than on cruises where you have to pay for drinks. You had entertainment that went from mellow to outrageous. Captain Cooks was mostly a piano bar with decent sing along tunes. Cook's was primarily geared towards middle aged folks. Dazzels night club became adults only after 11:15pm. Younger crowd, loud music, and partied hard until 2:00an nightly. Check out the Longboard for late night wings. The best wings of any NCL ship. Actually the best wings anywhere - go figure! Read Less

Overall this was a great cruise! I've been on two other NCL ships, the Pearl and the Getaway, and my time on the Sky was just as fantastic, albeit very different. On all my other cruises, both on NCL and Carnival, I'd gone with friends or family. This time I went solo just to see what it would be like- I'm kind of an introvert and wanted to see if cruising solo would be more comfortable for me. It certainly was! When I wanted to connect with people, the other passengers made for great company. When I wanted to be alone I was able to be without issue. It was fantastic. I particularly enjoyed the small size of the ship, that's what I credit for the smooth embarkation and disembarkation. It also made it very easy and quick to get around while onboard, something I appreciated. My cabin, 10215, was quiet which was something I was worried about given its location directly under the lido deck. That was not an issue at all. I didn't really participate in the evening entertainment options, although I did see the comic during his PG-13 Show. He was funny enough, but not "buy the CD" funny. I tried to do as many of the trivia contests as I could, which was fun. The food was good, and the open bars made things absolutely fantastic. There was never a line longer than a couple of people, and the bartenders made the drinks strong. The ports of call were as you'd expect. Great Stirrup Cay was relaxing, though I do wish they had the food venues open earlier. The bars were always busy but well-staffed so, again, never a long wait (and drinks are included there, too!). Nassau was an interesting town to visit. I went to the national art gallery and toured the grounds of the Governor's Mansion. I also went wandering on my own in Nassau, something that wasn't particularly smart to do in hindsight. About a mile or so in from the tourist area I began to feel unsafe so I turned around. I didn't leave the port area at Freeport, so I can't comment too much on it. Finally, I have to say that the staff on the Sky were phenomenal. They were always friendly, always courteous, always helpful. My steward, Rodolfo, went out of his way to greet me every morning and help me keep my bearings (I get turned around easily). The dining staff provided quick service, and the bartenders were knowledgeable and friendly as well. NCL's staff makes them shine and makes the choice to return to NCL a no-brainer for me. Read Less

I booked this cruise to surprise my husband for our 20th wedding anniversary. The price for this cruise was fantastic and the bonus was that all adult beverages were included. We had a mid ship balcony room. The room was more than adequate for two people and the views from the balcony were priceless. The pictures I was able to take looked like they were from a magazine. The cruise we chose was the 4 nights in the Bahamas. Our first stop was Norwegian private island, Great Stirrup Cay. The weather was beautiful and we had no issues tendering to the island. My husband and I rented snorkel equipment and got to enjoy the beautiful clear turquoise water. We had no problem securing two beach chairs in the shade. After enjoying a well deserved nap we did some souvenir shopping at the straw market and then headed back to ship. That night I had the best dessert ever at dinner. If the warm banana soufflé with butterscotch whiskey sauce is on the menu get it. It's soooo good you may decide to get two.....I did! The next day was Nassau. The immediate area to shop was ok, otherwise nothing overwhelmingly special except for the fact the weather was perfect. Our third stop was in Freeport. We decided to book the glass bottom boat shore excursion. It was one of the best decisions we could have made. The boat ride was exciting, you leave from the Lucaya harbor. The water was so clear, we got to see and feed the fish, but the most exciting part was getting to see sharks. You could easily see them from the sides of the boat along with the glass bottom windows. I would recommend this excursion to anyone who gets a chance to visit beautiful Lucaya. The next day we were back at the Port of Miami and heading home. This cruise was more fun then we could ever ask for. I would do this cruise again in a heartbeat!!! Read Less

We did a last minute short cruise for Super Bowl Weekend and my birthday. The vibe was fun, crew warm and welcoming and excellent service. Food in the dining rooms and the service were very good. We like free style cruising so there is no need to dress up but many people do. Knowing this was a short cruise, our expectations were not high. Entertainment was not great but the games were a lot of fun. Dancing and party atmosphere were great. This is not a cruise for kids...there is not much for them to do. So mostly couples of all ages on=board. Super Bowl was fun. Four watching venues with special buffets in the viewing areas. The ship is super clean, the inside cabin was small but clean and comfy and we spend most of our time outside the cabin anyway. This cruise had two stops. Did not make it to Great Stirrup Cay due to weather so we left early and did an over-nighter in Nassau. Nassau is nothing great so be sure to book an excursion. This is our 4th Norwegian cruise. WE have been on others but always come back to NCL because we enjoy the included drink package and we always have a fun time. We are in our 60's but young at heart. Read Less

Short getaway for us and 2 other couples. Enjoyed the ship, service, food and entertainment was especially good, good shows each nite. Unfortunately the weather didn't cooperate and we were forced to bypass Stirrup Cay, too rough for tenders. This is a terrific value. Would highly recommend it. Normally we cruise on smaller ships with less than 1000 people but this ship didn't seem over crowded and was sold out 2000+. The food in the main dining room was especially good even though we did try some of the specialty restaurants, really was necessary for this cruise. This opinion was shared by all 6 of us. Trying a Windstar Cruise to the South Pacific in the fall. Any comments from anyone who has been on the Wind Spirit?? Would love to hear from you. This was our first cruise on NCL and enjoyed it all. Will keep it in mind after we try a smaller ship. Not2shabby Read Less

If your into Booze..this is your cruise. It is definitely a different group of people than I have encountered on my other cruises. The ship is small and not much to do. The cabins are very small. My friend lost his wallet and of course no one turned it in, they kept it. Which made it a bit difficult to fly. The service desk was VERY unhelpful. Every time we went down we got a different story about what to do about flying back home. No one knew what to do. They didn’t change our room key either which made me think...WHAT???????? This was my first Norwegian experience and I will say I won’t be having a second. I usually do Royal Caribbean and wanting to try different cruise lines. I will venture now to Celebrity and Princess. They did Cancel all the excursions to Bahamas and the private Island due to wind, bummer..but they can’t control the weather. Cagney,s specialty restaurant is a MUST! The Italian is so so. Good Luck... if your a drinker, the drinks were strong! Read Less

We are from Western New York and just wanted a weekend get-away from the winter. Was disappointed that their island was only reachable by the small boats as the water was too choppy and the ONLY beach day was cancelled. I went on a Disney Cruise and when that happened there, they switched the Bahama Island day with their Island beach day so nothing was missed. Norwegian should look into something like that. You have NO IDEA how important one beach day is to people from the north in January!! It was nice to have a commedian and movie available but there were no 'live' musical type shows, like Disney offers. The on-board sale where everything was $10 was a great idea!! You do need more 'kid type' souvineers available though, in your gift shops. It was very disappointing to offer all these "free drawings" at certain times, only to find out when you showed up for the drawing that you had to stand around (literally STAND and many people were elderly) for at least 20 additional minutes listening to sales people try to sell you stuff. That made people miss out on other activities offered. Jewelry drawing was at 7pm and art show started at 7:15. We missed the art show because it was after 7:30 by the time the lady blathered on about their jewelry shops! Read Less

I read plenty of reviews on cruisecritic before boarding this boat and was shocked on the amount of people disappointed in the included drinks. There was every type of alcohol to make whatever drink you wanted! They have Baileys for your hot chocolate, Kahlua, Malibu, Bacardi, Jack Daniels, Old Fashioned, (not premixed) Pina Colada, Mango Meltdowns, Buschwackers, Mojitos, White Russians, Moscow Mules.. Pretty much any drink you want can be made with the included alcohol. If the drink they made wasn't strong enough, just ask for an extra shot. or set it down and order a new stronger one. Thats the beauty of it being an OPEN BAR. As for the boat, i would have wished that things stay open later but since its an older ship, and they have to take into consideration the things that can happen with everyone drunk, i understand why they close the sports activities at 8 pm. The food was great but could have had a bigger selection. This cruise is definitely focused on having fun at the bar. Tips & Tricks: The best bartender is Wilfred who typically works at the top deck bar by the adult section. Only get Mojitos from the Atrium Bar, they have a whole mojito bar and will add more alcohol if it is too weak. All in all, it is a fun boat to experience! I would definitely recommend! Read Less

My husband and I booked this short trip at the last minute because the price seemed too good to be true, but you get what you pay for! We have only done 1 other cruise before - Norwegian Gem in July 2012 - and that trip was wonderful, so our expectations were pretty high. I don't know if it's because the Sky is an older and smaller ship or if Norwegian's standards have drastically decreased in the past 6 years, but we likely won't be sailing with them again in the future. There wasn’t a lot to do onboard and the activities they did have were just so-so. We played Pictionary in Captain Cook’s lounge one afternoon and everyone was complaining because they didn’t even have the bar open. The nearest place to get anything to drink was a quarter of a ship and 4 floors away. There weren’t waiters that came around to offer beverages while we were in the pool, hot tub, or in the casino. The food was mediocre at best and often the only place available to get something to eat was the small buffet in the back of the ship. We loved the wings on our last cruise and thought we’d find them in the sports bar Longboarders, which advertised “comfort food”. When we got there we discovered they didn’t serve food at all and everyone eating in there had carried their plates over from the buffet next door. Why are we paying $18.99 per person per day for gratuities if I have to schlep all over the place to get a drink and bland buffet food? I will say that the drinks were good when you could find them, which was a pleasant surprise considering the whole ship is all-inclusive. And don’t get me wrong, we had a great time and met some awesome people! I just don’t think that the service was up to par and I feel a bit cheated, despite the good deal I got. And we spent WAY too much money in the casino but there just wasn’t a whole lot else to do! Disembarkation wasn’t great. Our bill was slid under the door at 8:50am. We had to be out by 9 and were looking it over and getting some final things together when the room stewards went up and down the halls banging on doors for people to get out. I understand that they work very hard to get the ship ready for the next guests but I just felt like I was being herded out of the room in a very loud and chaotic manner…there’s got to be a better way. Also, my credit card was charged $50 more then was displayed on the bill we received and I know we didn’t touch the items in the mini bar. I contacted NCL and was told to expect a response within 15 days. This is definitely a budget ship and it shows! If you’re going to spend the money on airfare, hotels and transfers, and take the time off of work, consider paying a bit more or choosing a different line. Read Less
