Cleanliness and level of service by wait staff and cabin steward was top rate. Disappointed we were not able to have consistent wait staff for evening dining. We were able to book a time in the dining room (just a fluke that we discovered we could do that), but were seated at a different table each evening. Then found out we could request the same table each evening. However, the wait staff rotate, so we did not have the same wait staff each evening. We prefer consistent waitstaff. Food was mediocre. Cabin was small, and bathroom was small; practically had to open the door to dry one's self. Odour of smoke was prevalent in several locations. Very few quiet places to sit, especially on sea days. We discovered the Spinnaker lounge for reading, etc., but on sea days it was used for activities. Because ours was a northerly cruise, one could not sit outside. Other cruise ships we have been on had a covered area around the pool. Read Less

Trying to get 3 families together was a challenge and this cruise fit the timeframe as well as being a great destination. The ship was smaller that what we were used to which was a nice treat but we missed some of the activities of the larger ships. The ports in Norway were amazing so the limited activities was not a big deal but would not want this ship on a transatlantic cruise or itinerary with a large amount of sea days. The staff in the restaurants and bars were fabulous. If you are on this ship make time to do the teppanaki and request "Velmond" (I think I got that right), he was the outstanding member on this cruise. He wa such an entertainer as well as cooking a great meal. The other highlight was the Elements show. If you only see one show on this ship, then this is the one. I had read many good reviews on this show and it did not disappoint. I loved not having to sign a receipt asking for another tip every time I got a drink (they do not make you sign for every beverage when you have the beverage package). As the tips are charged with the beverage package, no one was asking for another tip, although there were a few that provided exceptional service and we were happy to give them something extra at the end. The service from the bar staff was prompt and friendly. The Java cafe staff was always entertaining and made you feel so welcome. Our stateroom attendant was good, being friendly and always checking in. I loved the fitness center and did a workout every day of the 9 day cruise. There were lots of machines. The ladies welcoming you into the spa thermal suite were helpful and the thermal suite was amazing. That was definitely worth the cost. Unfortunately we had an issue with our travel agent (United cruises) and they did not load some offers that should have been on my account. NCL did everything they could to help and I appreciate the time they spent. We unfortunately had an issue with out stateroom bathroom and noticed it the minute we got into the cabin. There was a leak which had to be sewage behind the wall. It was not fixed until the second day and we could not use the room until the third day without feeling nautious. We could not "air it out" as the smell overtook the cabin. Fortunately I had purchased the thermal suite and could use their bathrooms and shower (they were one floor up from ours). The weather was fabulous so we could leave the balcony door open which helped. The ship was sailing full so they said there was nothing they could do and may have actually done something if it had lasted longer. These things do happen and I appreciate the repair crew and my stateroom attendant for getting a special cleanser to try and mask the smell and continually cleaning the area to try and help. I do feel that they should have refunded my thermal suite fee or at least comped our dinner one night. Overall, the smaller ship worked great for a port heavy cruise (7 port days and 2 sea days). The servers (buffet and bars) were some of the best we have had. Yes, everything you have read about the smoke from the casino is true..and it does make its way into neighboring bars, wish they would improve the ventilation. We were able to plan routes without going through the the casino. Read Less

We chose this NCL Jade cruise for its itinerary: up the western coast of Norway and into the Arctic Circle. We were very pleased with most aspects of the cruise. The Jade is a comparatively small ship, comfortable and tastefully decorated. There is a wide variety of dining venues, along with bars/lounges, spa areas, and casino. The passengers on this cruise appeared to be there for the scenery, rather than being a party crowd that you find on shorter, more tropical cruises. Embarkation and debarkation went smoothly. Our balcony room was comfortable, and well maintained by our attentive steward. Of note, there were quite a few outlets and charging ports in the cabin, more than most hotel rooms offer. The lighting could have been a little better. The food and service in the four specialty restaurants we dined in were outstanding. These dining areas were rarely busy. Buffet and main dining room food offered good variety, but average quality. Service in the Grand Pacific main dining room tended to be inconsistent, but better in the second dining room, the Alazar. Finding seating at the buffet, the Garden Cafe, was challenging, particularly at breakfast time. O’Sheehan’s bar and grill was overlooked and rarely busy, so offered a good alternative for breakfast. While spa services were expensive as is typical for this type of environment, the thermal spa pass was a bargain. For a flat rate, we had unlimited access to the private hot tubs and saunas in the spa. A limited number of passes are sold, so these areas are not typically crowded. This was a very worthwhile investment. Due to the climate, passengers made little use of the pool deck. As is common for cruise ships, the pools and hot tubs are too small, probably of necessity, to accommodate the demand when the weather is warm. The bars and lounges were ok. There was a nice mojito bar on the 13th deck that was rarely open and usually empty. Entertainment of varying quality was offered in most. The “Show Band” was particularly good. We did not visit the casino or attend any specialty shows, though several people commented that the shows were quite good. I don’t really understand the draw of art galleries, jewelry, and watches on cruise ships, but they tend to be a common element for some reason. The main attraction for us was the ports. We were not completely satisfied with the cruise line sponsored excursions, opting to schedule only one of them. The one that we chose, a waterfall hike in Geiranger, was excellent, however. At the remaining ports, we researched and booked excursions independently that were of more interest to us, or simply ventured out on our own. One unpleasant aspect of the cruise was the tendering process. The ship docked in three ports and was tendered at three. The latter process was a nightmare. Very small boats were used to transport passengers rather than the larger ferry-type boats that I am more accustomed to. The process necessitated passengers to line up for tendering passes the day before, and in order to get a relatively early boat, one had to spend an hour or more in line for these tickets. Guests would be lined up halfway down the length of the deck at these times. This does not make a positive impression. Fellow passengers remarked that this experience would prevent them from booking with NCL in the future. Even excursion operators commented on the ongoing inefficiency of the NCL tendering system. Cruise directors frequently reiterated the advantage of not needing tendering tickets for excursions booked through NCL, but I don’t feel that I should be extorted into booking a less interesting excursion because of the dismal tendering process. We'd always wanted to see the Norwegian Fjords and to travel to the Arctic Circle, so we booked this family cruise with great excitement, despite the fact we couldn't get adjoining cabins because we were assured NCL would do their best to get us cabins next to each other. We were split - my husband on deck 8, with me and my daughter on deck 9. NCL did nothing to get us cabins together and Guest Relations were rude when we put in our request as they were at subsequent times. On a NCL excursion to a Viking Farm in Haugesund we were left waiting in the pouring rain for the coach to arrive for one and a half hours without information or shelter. There were no refreshments at all, we had to rush our trip. There was no attention to detail on Norwegian Jade, the atmosphere despite the entertainment was dour, the ship quite soulless. If this had been my first cruise, I would never go back. All the glasses (champagne, wine, water glasses in cabin) were invariably dirty, often with other people's lipstick marks - apparently there's no extra charge for lipstick, one waiter quipped. Garden Cafe was dirty, the tables unclean, the floor left unswept. The food was greasy, there was no variety, little effort made regarding taste, the bread products stale, the cakes disappointing. Despite having a drinks package we couldn't get a mocha or a latte without paying extra plus gratuity. There was nowhere to sit comfortably, Cafe Java was more of a waiting area rather than a Cafe. O'Sheehan's was a dirty nightmare, the food barely warm. The restaurant food was palatable but often strange and the glasses remained dirty as ever. A tired looking chicken drumstick as a starter, cheese cake without a biscuit base and indeed without actual cheese (yes, it was a slice of frozen tasteless blancmange). The toilets stank permanently of sewage, masked by the overpowering stench of bleach, a sickly combination. The cabins were functional, certainly no frills, no nuance and the balcony door was a nightmare to close and shut. When I mentioned this to housekeeping they shrugged. My husband (6 feet tall) had difficulty opening it likewise. On our last cruise we were offered a glass of fizz when coming on-board, on the Norwegian Jade we were sprayed with disinfectant, a somewhat futile gesture as the dirty glasses left their mark and both my daughter and I left Norwegian Jade (we got on perfectly healthy) with a bug - sneezing, coughing and feeling sick - and also with a great sense of relief and gratitude that our stay on this particular ship was at an end. This was my 2nd time on a NCL ship. My first memorable experience with Jewel and impressive service from NCL Sydney office were the reasons for my 2nd time. This particular trip was arranged as all of us had not been to Norway. From the booking to every single arrangement, our NCL consultant, Michelle Farren had been very helpful with her prompt response, despite 17 of us in the group. It was handed over to Hayley, who helped us before we sailed. Awesome service from NCL Sydney office!i never thought would happen to any cruise line due to some past negative experiences. Every day, our cruise ship, Norwegian Jade passed by different mountains. In the early summer, the snow covered mountains and visits to the fairytale lands in Norway warmed my heart during this memorable cruise trip. It's indeed a very beautiful Norwegian Fjords' journey, which all of us had enjoyed very much. We had selected 2 Free at Seas for each cabin. On top of that, we were given the Distinctive Voyages with few more addtional benefits, such as 250 min free wifi, 120 phone call credit that allows us to call any part of the world, another $50 shore credit per port etc. Most of us were busy every day taking part in different shore excursions. Though a few incidents happened on the ship, upon receipt of my comments, its cruuse director & guest services manager had contacted me personally. Service recoveries were offered to my cruise mates and I had received a complimentary wine & chocolates as well. Thanks for the prompt response and I was grateful that my friends were happy before they left the ship. I saw the Carbaret show by the production team onboard and it was really interesting to showcase Broadway musical at the lounge. The Cruise Director and his team had performed a very interesting "Movie Sketch Comedy Show'. Very great teamwork! Among the specialty restaurants, my team mates loved Cagney, Le Bistro, Moderno Churrascaria. Teppanyaki may require some improvements on the skills by the Chef. Grand Pacific, Alizar and Cafe Garden were great! We all love the foods. Read Less

We booked this as our 1st cruise for our family of 4. Embarkation and disembarkation went very smoothly at Southampton, we arrived quite early (about 10.30am) and were onboard enjoying lunch by 12. Disembarkation took no more than 30 mins after leaving our cabin. Our cabin was mid ship inside and was perfectly adequate for 4 of us, with nice big beds and plenty of storage space. Our steward was lovely and kept the cabin perfectly clean and tidy during our trip. Food on board was very good, the buffet in particular. There was plenty of choice with many included restaurants as well as the speciality dining. We decided that there was enough choice with the speciality restaurants and didn't get bored of any of the inclusive ones. Our main dining room of choice was Alizar along with the garden cafe and O'sheehans. The fajitas at O'Sheehans were particularly lovely. We didn't really enjoy the Chinese restaurant Jasmine - I thought the Chinese food in the garden cafe was much nicer. The entertainment was good and varied, we loved the theatre shows. There was always something going on in the many bars or by the pool or you could just relax with a book somewhere quiet. Norway was a beautiful country to visit, even my children (boys 8 & 13) found it really interesting and loved visiting the different towns. We didn't do any of excursions as it was our 1st cruise and were quite glad of that as we were not stuck to a timetable. The only excursion we would have liked to have done was the flam railway which we would certainly book on our next visit. Overall the Jade was a fab ship for a 1st experience and has left us all wanting to try other cruises in the very near future. Read Less

We had a beautiful 10 day cruise on the Jade. The Jade was recently refurbished and you could tell. Everything seemed very clean and new. Getting On and Off the Ship We enjoyed priority embarkation and disembarkation (with suite) but we only used it in one port and getting on and off the cruise. Priority was a delights: straight on or off. Even without that at ports it was almost always a short line and very easy to get on and off. Ports We cruise for the itinerary and this was one of the best. Six stops in Norway in different sized towns gave us a real flavour. In all but one port we booked our own independent excursion. In Stavenger we booked a boat tour to Pulpit Rock /Vagabond's Cave and around the Fjord. (It would have been nice to have a longer stop in this location - over 8 hours - to accommodate people who wanted to hike to Pulpit Rock.) The boat tour was a very comfortable ride with great views. (Could be inside in comfortable seats or on outside deck). In Geiranger we took a rib boat to the Seven Sisters and Suitor falls. If you have good mobility and a strong stomach I highly recommend this. In Flam we booked our own train tickets ahead of time and enjoyed the scenic tour to Myrdal with a quick stop ot Fjossfossen Waterfall. In Alesund we took the "train" (not a real train) around town for a lovely tour with the highlight being a gorgeous view at Fjellstua. We also walked around town a bit. In Haugesund we planned to make it a bit of a shopping day but with a little rain and most things being pricey and with few souvenirs available, we settled for a wander around town. In Oslo we did a self walking tour, stopping for a (pricey) drink at the Magic Ice Bar and waffles from a truck at the pier. The next morning we took an NCL bus tour to Viking Museum, sculpture park and ski jump (and a good tour of Oslo). Overall we were very happy with the ports. In a perfect world, as stated, I would have had a longer stop in Stavenger and would have stopped in Bergen instead of Haugesund. Cabin Part of the reason we enjoyed our trip so much is we splurged on a 2 bedroom family cabin. The kids had their own tiny room (2 beds) and bathroom. I wouldn't have minded a slightly larger balcony but we pulled in 2 extra chairs from the cabin and we could all sit out there. This "master" has a massive 2 sink, separate bath, 10 shower head showered bathroom. Real luxury. And plenty of storage space. We spent a lot of time in our cabin enjoyed the picturesque views of Norway out our window. We had access to a butler (brought extra food every day, and brought DVDs on request) and concierge (booked dinner reservations and had port details). Honestly while we enjoyed we could have lived without (except we did enjoy a number of movies). The cabin was very clean and comfortable and we ate a lot of meals at our table and chairs there. Dining Breakfast we ate about half the time from the Garden Café. We always ate in our room as the Café was almost always crowded. Our cabin was relatively close and we had a table and chairs to eat at. Otherwise, I think I would have gotten tired hunting for a table. Suites have access to eat breakfast at Moderno where they had a hot menu (loved eggs Benny and French toast) as well as buffet cold: breads, yogurt, fruit, meats and cheeses. It was quiet and the service was quick. Lunch we usually ate from Garden Café (same issue with seating) and a few times in Cagney's, lunchtime eating for suite passengers. I always had the French Dip there, it was my favourite meal on the ship! We ate dinner in main dining rooms 4 times: Grand Pacific twice and Alizar twice. The food was very good in both. We found Alizar to be quite crowded and on both occasions it seemed to us the serving staff didn't seem very happy to be there. We had a better time at Grand Pacific, once getting a window table in a quiet part of the restaurant. Service was very good. My husband and I booked a 3 meal dining package and ate at La Cucina (Italian), Teppanyaki (Japanese) and Le Bistro (French). We enjoyed all three meals in these smaller venues with excellent service and food. Honestly, we needed the break from the busyness of the larger dining rooms. The good food would be wasted on our teenagers so they enjoyed the Garden Café buffet (with no wait for the food). We enjoyed a few drinks in the Atrium Bar and Spinnaker Lounge. They had some interesting drinks. We found them a little pricey but often got the drink-of-the-day which was a few dollars off. We aren't huge drinkers so did not have drinks package. Mostly had wine with dinner and one after dinner drink. Entertainment/Actvities I (alone) went to the show of the first night. It was a short intro to some of the acts and was fine. They had the usual array of acts: singers, dancers, jugglers, magician. We never went again as not generally our thing and the timing didn't work. We ate dinner about 630 usually (times for after back on ships and seeing off the port) and shows were 730 and 930. My husband and I went to the Atrium Lounge quite a few nights to have a drink and listen to Randon. He sang and played his guitar beautifully and was our type of music (James Taylor, Eagles etc). We didn't do many other cruise director activities by choice (game shows, bingo, trivia etc). We wanted to watch the scenery, read books or watch movies. We did visit the pool and hot tubs quite a bit. There were quite a few fairly ill-mannered kids we encountered (frequent activity was spitting out water in hot tub) but hard to hold NCL accountable for that! Service We were well cared for (cabin steward, butler, concierge) which was sometimes a little overwhelming. Took us a few days to figure out who would do what. Teenagers We had our 15 and 13 year olds with us (boy/girl) who similarly enjoyed the trip. They liked their own room in the cabin (and TV) and the Garden Café. The ship had a teen programme, my daughter thought she might join some activities, but timing didn't seem to work. She did try one activity but when she went to the Teen club no one was there (and no instructions). Wasn't a huge deal overall, but didn't leave a good impression. Overall We give this cruise 5 stars because of the itinerary, service, food, cleanliness and generally well-run ship. Our biggest complaint might be the crowdedness at Garden Café. This was contributed to by the fact that the weather was coolish many days meant Topsiders (outside eatery) either wasn't open or wasn't used. Read Less

We chose this cruise from Hamburg to Southampton mainly for the price in high season as the next cruise return to Southampton seemed to double in price. We also liked the idea of taking in the sights of Hamburg pre cruise as this was somewhere we had never visited. Emabarkation was quite smooth taking around 40 minutes at around 1130AM. We chose Jade also because of her recent refurb which to be honest we found to be a bit of a disapointment nothing on-board gives you the wow factor, some of the public rooms where nice but nothing special. The ship as a whole was ok but to be honest would I remember any of the venues in a few weeks? I would have to say no. All of the Special Dining venues where excellent including Cagneys, Le Bistro, Tepyanki and Moderno's. Didnt do Le Cucina as to me this was just an extention of the buffet(Garden Cafe.) with mediocere decoration and few table cloths. This comes to my biggest bug bare of the whole cruise the Garden Cafe, plainly not big enough when this size ship is full with to many large tables taken up by so few, on two occasions found myself leaving after walking the whole length of Garden Café twice with no joy trying to find a table. Human beings need some form of organisation at the food counters and having remote islands does not work! People bombarding you from both sides as you try and work your way across. Mayhem. Do yourself a favour avoid the cattle market and just go to the Pacific Dining Room or O'Sheehans for breakfast as these where both excellent with O'Sheehans having the smaller choice of the two. The two shows we did where both good but be warned arrive early for Elements as I would say the first 8 seats from either side of the theatre are pointless with very little view, we saw lots of people just getting up and leaving due to the poor visibility in these areas. Also arrive early for the Bingo & Raffle in the Spinnaker Lounge(Nice View). as fights broke out over the seating and security had to be brought in to remove some passengers, well it all adds to the entertainment. We did not use any of the ships excursions as we found them very expensive so planned all of our excursions privately online before the cruise. Service was excellent in all of the bars, Pacific Dining Room, Jasmine Garden, O'Sheehans and all of the extra pay dining venues. Our only let down was the Alizar dining room with long waiting times for food, cold food and for some reason unhappy staff. Ports of call where all fantastic with the exception of Kristiansand found it to be a bit dull compared to all of the other stops. Our two teenagers absolutely loved the Teens club, Entourage and where there every moment they could. Both the teens said this was the best cruise they had been on! We enjoyed the cruise but this was mainly because of the great friends we made and beautiful locations. We would travel NCL again but maybe on one of the newer/larger ships with hopefully a bit more pizazz. Read Less

Cruise ship jade has been updated in all cabins and most public areas. Very classy look now. Menu has been revamped and in main dinning hall and specialty dining hall all foods were exquisitely prepared. This is our third cruise on Jade and 6th on NCL. It just keeps getting better. The weather was a 10 with temperatures ranging from 52 to 76. Also 24 hours of daylight above artic circle this time of year. Staff in dining room, cabin steward, cruise director, customer service desks, shops went our of their way to be helpful, accommodating and were very friendly. Latitude program which changed February 2017, now provides for platinum, platinum plus and ambassador members to have priority embarkation. Arriving in Hamburg port with literally hundreds in line to check in and being escorted to priority check in and boarding due to platinum status was a welcome change. My partner and I both being platinum are now given 1 hour of free internet total and 1 free laundry each as well as many other welcome perks. The specialty dining package promotion is well worth the extra $15 fee per person. We have already booked out next cruise on NCL. Mike and Colleen Read Less

We have been on most of the major cruise lines . Celebrity is our favorite with Norwegian a close 2nd . Celebrity is a little more upscale where Norwegian is more relaxed but still a solid cruise . Norwegian takes a chance with its design . The Jades main dining room is a knockout . Wood panel walls and artful lighting . Gauguin like paintings fill the dining room . You feel your eating in a 1920 social club . The food is good enough . A little hit and miss . You will wish the steak was a better cut of meat but still enjoy your dinning experience . I like the relax "I can wear jeans to dinner approach" . This approach works well after a full day of sight seeing and you do not have the energy to dress up . We had a two bed room suite . Its great for a family of 4 . Our girls loved the kids room with a lower double size bed and a bunk . Our master room had a queen . Flat screen T.V. . We could of closed our Master bedroom off from the girls with a heavy door but we choose not too . The Walk in shower was roomy with a great view of the sea . The girls like the oversized tub . Over all this was the best room we ever had on any ship . A very nice perk of the suite is you have breakfast and lunch in a smaller private dinning room . The food was really good . Fresh waffles , French toast made to order . The girls loved the hot chocolate . The Service in the private dinning room was very detailed and personal . I give Norwegian very high marks on the suite dinning . The Suite comes with a Butler . My one big complaint was him . We saw him twice the whole cruise . Our suite was not in the Haven area . I think this is where he must of spent most of his time . I was more sad then mad about him not being around . It would of been nice . I did not tip the Butler . The Jade is a big ship but not a Mega ship . The shows were good . The cast of singers and dancers worked over many nights in different roles . Over the 9 nights of the cruise you feel you know each singer and dances strengths and weakness . Last year we were on the Mega ship Allure of the Sea . The shows on the Mega ship were grand but not personal . You have more choices on the mega ships but you give up the "homely" feel . On the Jade I felt like I was at a resort instead of a Mall . We sailed from Southampton to Norway . We never did a ship Shore excursion not because we did not want to but due to they were mostly sold out . This worked out to be a blessing since we did most everything we wanted was 1/2 the price on our own . Norway is Beautiful . Never have I seen so many water falls . The mountains are tall and rough on top with very green wet farms in the valley . Picture perfect . Would we go on Norwegian again ? . Norwegian Cruise are not perfect but they are so easily going and relaxed . You are going the be excited by the ports and happy with the amount of time spend at each port . I like the down to earth people the Cruise line attracts . People have glass of wine and sing at the piano bar , but never too much or too loud . Norwegian does a really good job and I am happy to sail on her ships again and again . Read Less
