We chose this cruise because it was from Boston to Bermuda. We live about an hour from Boston,so it was convenient. We went with another couple who had been on the Dawn and really liked that ship,so thought this would be similar. We had a balcony cabin. The hallways were narrow, the bathroom was small, especially the toilet area. Our room steward was great, can’t remember his name-cabin 9636. The food in specialty restaurants was great, atmosphere in LeBistro the best, found Cagneys to be loud and chaotic since we were near kitchen with food for the Brazilian grille also constantly going by. The main dining rooms service was slow, food pretty good, not great. Entertainment was fair-the best shows were the ones with audience participation. Also, there were a few sea days and activities need improvement-origami and towel folding? There was trivia and bingo, but we spent a lot of time on balcony due to lack of decent activities. One tip-if you want to do painting, sign up as soon as you get on ship-it fills up fast. Two outdoor pools only-always very crowded unless you went at 8am,which we did. The Bali Hai bar near pool is only smoking section and seemed to be loudest-people way overindulging!! Overall,a decent trip, but not sure would cruise Norwegian again. Read Less

We chose this cruise because frankly, we live by Cruise Port Boston, love Bermuda and spent our honeymoon on the Norwegian Gem on its transatlantic portion of its maiden voyage back in 2007 and wanted to see whether the cruise ship really was as awesome as we remembered. It was, and then some. The embarkation and disembarkation went smoothly. Sure, twelve years has taken its toll on the ship, but it wasn't that visible. The Dale Chihuly Glass Sculpture in the Atrium of the Gem still wows. The service was great. Our balcony stateroom was consistently kept immaculately clean. The food in the buffet was so delicious it kept us coming back for more. The variety in the buffet, with its different themes each night, was terrific. Even the free coffee was delicious. The staff showed pride in their work, and the attention to detail showed. We attended four major shows in the Stardust Theater, Swing, Blazing Boots, the Chernov Brothers - Circus Dance Show and Get Down Tonight which we very much enjoyed. We were able to walk to Snorkel Park Beach in Bermuda three days in a row and took the free ferry to St. George. We traveled with our nine year old son who is on the autism spectrum, and he had a great time. We went last year on the Norwegian Dawn (August 2018) and will go again on August 21, 2020. Read Less

Already In the process of planning our next cruise... Daily food menu changes with multiple options so there's something for everyone as well as dietary and allergy sensitive foods too... Pools were great after a long workout or a stroll around the ship, basketball, rock climbing or just laying back relaxing on the sundeck, there's many activities for various age groups and also for just adults which adds to the ability for everyone to be together yet also have their own time with individuals around their age as well ,playing games making crafts or just meeting and making new friends.... My Wife and I are a dual income, no kids couple (aka DINKS) and we vacation frequently with the notion of work hard, play hard and have no problems paying for luxury experiences. We had heard great things about the Boston to Bermuda NCL cruise. Being local, we absolutely LOVED the idea of getting dropped off at the ship and hopping right on to start our vacation. We decided to book the Owner's Suite with the large balcony, Hot Tub, King bed, large bathroom, Butler and Concierge service. The Hot Tub did not have a heater and it did not bubble, which caused us to sit and wait for it to be repaired on our first day. We usually book the more luxurious trips because we like the memorable experience it offers along with the pampering we do not receive on a day to day basis. Our summer Boston to Bermuda cruise left quite a bit to be desired and unfortunately, DID NOT meet our expectations. Given that we booked the Blue Diamond Suite on the Gem, our expectations were Extremely HIGH!! Day one of vacation came and embarkation on the ship as a Haven guest was as expected, we were greeted by the very professional MassPort personnel and shown to the Priority boarding area. There were some light refreshments and we met our concierge (Anoop) who was pleasant and provided an excellent vacation experience. He checked in with us at every dinner, helped to switch dinner reservations and provided ideas for a free day that we had in Bermuda. We do not consider ourselves High Maintenance guests and we appreciated Anoop's pleasant demeanor and his daily if not 2-3/day checking in with us to see if we needed anything. That being said, this is Actually the kind of thing one expects when you are spending the money to have the HAVEN experience, furthermore to be guests in the OWNERS Suite. One of the disappointing experiences was being told at dinner we had to pay for the $27 bottle of wine, champagne and cappuccino (it's espresso people) above and beyond what we ALREADY PAID. I understand it costs money to run a ship, overhead, etc, but we did not expect to be able to drink as much wine, champagne and coffee as we want when we went to the bar or in our room and not at dinner. It just doesn't make sense. Our Butler upon our arrival informed us that we are provided with 3 bottles of alcohol which included wine and liquor, and 1 complimentary bottle of champagne which of course makes sense. However, when after hours of sitting in the room waiting for the Hot Tub to be repaired (by very nice mechanics), I asked her if we can get more champagne while the sun is shining and it's 85 degrees and I'd like to start my vacation. There was no suggestion of the bottle being complimentary until I had suggested that some more champagne would alleviate the "inconvenience". I will say our Butler, Josephine, was pleasant, hard working and took good care of us, but if we needed anything we had to summon her. We certainly didn't feel like she was checking in on us and she did stock our fridge with 2 bottles of Prosecco the next day after considering my suggestion. Another rather disconcerting event happened near the end of our cruise in the Haven Courtyard. Apparently only cruisers who booked HAVEN Rooms are allowed in the Haven Courtyard. Given this was our first cruise, I was not aware of this because while hanging out in the Haven Courtyard two days prior, several of us who were staying in the Haven had a impromptu Pool party with buckets of Adult Beverages for everyone, good conversation, laughter etc, While socializing I realized that it was obvious several of my fellow passengers had brought their friends who were NOT HAVEN Guests up to the courtyard, I assumed that this was allowed and it seemed reasonable to me. All the guests at our impromptu pool party were great people, classy and we were all having a really good time. So, when I brought a friend who happened to be on the ship serendipitously, I of course thought it was fine. Hey, rules are rules, I totally understand. However, our concierge (Anoop) sent a younger HAVEN Staff member (Made, the Haven Courtyard Valet) to address this issue with me in front of my Guest and my wife, I was MORTIFIED. Listen, we've all been kicked out of bars or nightclubs when we're in our twenties for too much celebrating etc., but when you pay a pretty hefty sum of cash to stay in a premier room and are scolded and treated with such utter DISRESPECT over a misunderstanding I have a bit of an issue. Anoop, (The Concierge and the BOSS) should've take it upon himself to have a private conversation with me and clarify the rules, not send his subordinate over and embarrass me in front of my wife and friend. This small incident was the final straw in what we thought was going to be a 5-Star White Glove Service. In Summary, this was our fault, we lacked experience cruising and with NCL in particular. We had an EXCELLENT Vacation but We did NOT get the VALUE for the money we spent. The NCL Gem is obviously not a luxury based ship and trying to provide white glove 5 star service with their HAVEN option was not up to par. We would've been better off and less disappointed if we booked a much less expensive option for the experience we had. If NCL wants to provide high level white glove experiences to guests who are willing to pay then they need to stop nickel and diming their guests and offer more 'all inclusive' type packages with attention to detail if they are looking to garner a higher level clientele who are willing to pay. We would definitely go on another Boston to Bermuda NCL cruise, however, we will absolutely book a much more cost effective package. Booking the package we booked along with our disappointment is akin to going to Outback Steakhouse and believing you are going to get the same kind of Filet that one gets at Del Friscos or similar high end steakhouse that in short, is basically the experience we had. I love to have some Kukkaburrow wings while wearing jeans and a t-shirt but you will not catch me ordering a premium steak and at the very least having the expectation that it will be 5 star!! Well my daughter and son booked the cruise months ago. My husband booked it for us a week before he passed away! My children & doctor thought it would be good for me to go and he would want me too! well everyone was right it was good for me. I felt he was there with us! I asked my sister to go with me, so she was my new roommate! I enjoyed watching my grandchildren at the pool going down the slide, the shows were awesome, the newly wed game, deal of no deal, the restaurants very good! So many choices, the food excellent! I took my two granddaughters to the spa and had there hair braided! And we tried out the casino too! I can't say enough about the staff! our steward manuel was wonderful, taking care of our room, making cute towel animals and if you needed anything he would get it. Diana in the buffet very helpful, always offering to carry are food to the table. And you have the best cruise director in luz and assistant joey! I could go on and on! We also saw one of my granddaughters swim with the dolphins. Then my sister and i did a bus tour of the island of bermuda! I had flown there with my husband in the past. So all and all a great vacation i was relaxed. A much needed one. I would recommend a cruise to anyone! Read Less

This was my first cruise, it was chosen by a friend. We had a great time. The food was amazing, the variety of entertainment was impressive and the staff was pleasant & eager to please. The only disappointment was the disorganized process of leaving the ship for excursions and at the end of the cruise. A few people missed their excursions at our first port due to the excessive lines of people winding down the stairs trying to get off the ship. I would definitely use Norwegian again. The value for our money was impressive and sailing from NYC is really convenient for us. We found a bus through Yankee Trails that brought us right to the port. We tried all of the complementary restaurants plus the hibachi restaurant and the Brazilian bbq restaurant and they were worth every penny. It was easy to get reservations. The food was amazing. My family invited me on this cruise as a birthday celebration and it was a fantastic experience for the entire family. Lots of fun activities, great food and friendly staff. Our kids enjoyed the many amenities and we never had to worry about them becoming bored. I usually do get seasick which was a concern for me, however I barely felt any movements. The on-board entertainment was excellent. The stateroom was comfortable and well laid for its size. The cleaning staff are very hard workers and respectful individuals. I recommend the drink package, with all that food you need to balance it out with something good to drink. The ship is so beautiful and clean you get the feeling that you are in a 5 star hotel. I ready for my next cruise with Norwegian and their fantastic crew, don’t change anything see you soon. Thank you for a vacation me and my family will never forget. Read Less

My wife and I have been on several cruises before but this was our first and last cruise with Norwegian Cruise Lines. Their lack of communication and unwillingness to take any responsibility for anything is astounding. Our departure was delayed by one day because of bad weather which we understand. However, we do not understand why Norwegian did not communicate that to us. Instead our Norwegian shuttle picked us up at the airport and drove us to the pier where the dock hand informed us that our ship would not be arriving until the next day. Our shuttle driver unloaded our luggage and told us we would have to find ourselves a hotel for the night. There we were wondering the unfamiliar streets of New York City looking for a hotel that had room along with the other 2000 guests of the ship that were in the same predicament. The next morning at embarkation they handed us a sheet of paper telling us that because of the delay in departure they had cancelled 2 of our scheduled ports with no reason given and that they would be refunding us for 1 day of our cruise. It is now more than a month since the cruise ended and we are still fighting for our 1 day refund and they will not even reply to my emails. It was not the cruise itself that we have a problem with it is Norwegian's complete lack of customer service that we find unacceptable. Read Less

This was our first cruise with NCL and chose this cruise due to the 11 ports included in this daylight Panama Canal transit. The ports were all great and enjoyable. The spacing of sea days and ports was excellent. 3 days of ports, 1 sea day, 3 days of ports, 1 sea day, etc. Embarkation was smooth, with the normal delays. Disembarkation was a disaster, stood in line for more than 90 minutes after our purple 2 code was called. Then received extremely rude and poor transfer service from the NCL contracted bus line. Bus driver intentionally dropped off half the passengers at the wrong terminal. Ship: In good shape, and common areas were clean and constantly cleaned Cabin: 8590. this is a sideways cabin, partially obstructed view and the location was convenient and quiet. Dining: Food in the main dining rooms and buffet was consistently stale and Luke warm. We only got a decent meal if it was an omelet prepared in front of us or something that was intended to be cold like a salad. The fountain drinks were watered down. Entertainment: Best I've seen after 15 cruises. If you cruise with NCL and SWING is the show do NOT miss it. Broadway quality. Great show band, with 3 piece brass section Read Less

It was my wife's 70th birthday and we wanted to do something grand and special so this fit the bill. A trip through the Panama Canal had always been on my "bucket list" and this was a chance to visit many different countries. Interacting with the "locals" was wonderful. Enjoyed our hop-on hop-off bus tour in Cartegena, and the submarine excursion in Aruba was exciting ... beautiful coral and colourful fish. The ABC islands (Aruba, Bonaire and Curaco) were a treat, very friend people, colourful buildings, easy to walk around. The ship itself was thoroughly enjoyable ... never a lack of things to do. Every show in the Theatre was excellent, and we especially enjoyed the Cirque du Soleil duo. We are not "formal" people, so free-style cruising suits us well. The casino was good because the "odds" on the slots were set high enough that you could enjoy some decent play time. The only drawback is that smoking is allowed. The only improvement I would suggest to the itinerary would be to include a stop in either Nassau or San Juan to break up the final three and a half days at sea. All in all, a wonderful trip and we plan on continuing to "cruise like a Norwegian". Read Less

After cruising in many ships worldwide, we decided to take our first cruise with NCL because the route with NCL Gem was fantastic; The Panama Canal! In general terms the cruise was fine. The ship is great with beautiful public areas, excellent facilities and good cabins, and above all, a very good crew and staff, In terms of recreation and activities they were very good. The shows were fantastic with excellent dancers and singers. The orquestra and musical groups on the ship were also very good. Regarding the food served as "complimentary" in the main dinning rooms and swimming pool area, was not good enough to be aligned with the top quality of the ship. Food quality, variety, presentation, and flavor was really poor. Sometimes during lunch time it was really difficult to decide what to eat because the food available was really "cheap" . The current chef is from India. We took this cruise with another couple of friends and they had exactly the same opinion. After so many cruises it is very easy for us to assess the quality of ships and services aboard, Everything was great, except the food ! Read Less

We've always been pleased with NCL cruise lines, perhaps what we like the most is that you almost feel as your a part of the family with the staff of the ship. Many of them come to know you by name and are always smiling and pleasant, not to say that there aren't a few sourpusses, but the majority are great! The ship was a bit on the tired side and had peeling/chipped paint throughout, including the rear balcony cabin I was in, but the layout was great. One thing I noticed though, by having the rear cabin it seemed like we were walking a lot more than usual, but even that was good. The entertainment was great especially the comedian on board and Lloyd the Teppanyaki chef was entertaining enough to be worth the extra fee for this restaurant. I'm not crazy about all the extra money seeking (ship lotteries, pull tabs, increase your drink package to include top shelf) all extra. Additionally not crazy about how the food, while still good, has changed so significantly over the years. I wasn't even able to pay a fee at Cagney's to add a lobster tail to my steak. Surf and Turf now means shrimp and Le Bistro stopped serving the seafood pastry that was so much a delight. That being said, I still would travel NCL as I DO feel I receive something else, a feeling of being a part of their family. While the Zodiac whale watching experience was fantastic in Puerto Vallarta, the same experience in Cabo San Lucas was horrific and we felt as if we were taking our life in our hands due to the Zodiac Captain in Cabo. I chose this cruise for the itinerary and have sailed Norwegian before and have always had a good time onboard. Service- this was hit and miss. Some of the hostesses aren't very friendly. The girl in Sheehan's never smiled or made me feel welcome. I'm a former hostess- so this bothers me. My cabin steward kept my room clean, but even though I'd put the "Make Up Room" sign up by 7AM (I'm an early riser)- the room was never made up until 10AM. Also, I go to bed early- and my room was never made up in the evening before 9PM. Given that it was an 18-night cruise- The cabin steward should have recognized my routine but didn't care. I had to ask for things and he wasn't friendly until the last night of the cruise- when he probably hoped for an extra tip. I didn't give him one because he hadn't gone the extra mile- like most cabin stewards do. I generally tip extra, but not this time. Ship- the ship was in very good condition- there were some places that needed repainting on the exterior and my friend's cabin (5096) had what looked like mold on the ceiling. It turned out to be paint but it was unsightly. Internet- You can pay $.99 a minute or you have to buy a package. The only way to get the 24 hour unlimited use is to buy a package for the entire voyage. Expensive. Entertainment- I was never bored. There were plenty of activities to participate in. Show that I went to were very good. I loved Brad Stevens the pianist. Food- I dined for most meals in the Grand Pacific Dining Room. We usually showed up between 5;30- 6:30 and there wasn't much of a wait. The meals were hit and miss. Meat dishes- steaks and ribs (and even the Hungarian Goulash) were inedible. Too tough. Perhaps the head chef is a vegetarian but he needs to have someone taste test the food. I'm sure there were many complaints and plates of food sent back to the kitchen. I ended up referring to this as the "bird and fish" cruise because those dishes and the vegetarian dishes were good. The bananas foster were bananas cut lengthwise and plopped into butterscotch and rum. Gross. My "key lime parfait" was really key lime mousse. Tasted good but did not resemble a "parfait". The corn fritters were flat pancakes with a kernel of corn in each one. The salads were lacking in anything other than mixed greens and they ran out of spinach midway through the cruise. Le Bistro was good- but the cost of the food was excessive- given that meals are included in the passage. The up charge shouldn't be $17.99 for a good steak. The buffet was ok. The outside burger stand was good and on sea days they did really nice bar-b-ques by the pool. The best dish was a seafood medley. Yum! Drinks- I thought the price of wine was reasonable. I noticed my chardonnay was cheaper at Magnums than other venues. Don't know why. Unless you are a full-fledged alcoholic- don't bother with a drink package. Average drink price is $10. Excursions and Ports Curacao- We pre-purchased $60 resort passes (through Resorts for a Day) for the Hilton Hotel. It was fabulous. They welcomed us- provided towels and we were free to use the beach and pool areas. Our passes included $25 food and beverage vouchers, which was enough for us to drink four drinks and split a delicious Quesadilla. Highly recommend this place. Taxis to and from the Hilton were $20 each way. Aruba- We winged it and were so glad we did. There are school buses (decorated with graffiti) offering $25 pp island tours. We went to a rock formation, a church, a lighthouse (where there are food and beverage trucks. Get a fruit smoothie for $5- delicious!). Then we were dropped off at Eagle Beach for two hours and then returned to the ship. It was awesome. The beach chairs rent for $10. Santa Marta- very poor industrial port. Our excursion to a waterfall was underwhelming and there was too much walking (and wading through streams) for some of the passengers. I'm only 53 so the mostly shaded walk didn't bother me (it's over a mile each way) but my 71 year old travel companion it was too much for- especially with wading through the streams 8 times. I should have read the fine print about shoes getting wet. The waterfall may be more impressive when there isn't a drought but it was puny. The banios (toilets) were very gross and you have to pay $1 to use them. Norwegian should drop this port IMO and do two nights in Cartegena. Cartegena- Loved this city. Very pretty architecture. The vendors are ridiculous though. My suggestion is ignore them. Someone in my group made the mistake of buying something and then was swarmed by other vendors. To get away from the them- nip into on of the Juan Valdez coffee shops (Columbia's Starbucks). The coffee is good and inexpensive. They only take pesos or credit cards. Shops took US dollars though. Panama Canal- Wow! Was a wonderful experience. I got up early and managed to score a seat at the bow in Spinnacker at 6:45. Transit started around 8AM but it was neat waiting in line for the Canal. Sailing through the lake while eating lunch at one of the aft window tables in the Grand Pacific Dining Room was one of my favorite trip experiences. Costa Rica- We went to an animal rescue with NCL where we saw many birds, moneys, and animals. We were treated to fresh fruit- which was very delicious . Highly recommend Nicaragua- We went to the Botanical Gardens and Leon with NCL. Our guide Gabriel was very good but the trip to and from was long and we were underwhelmed with the Botanical Gardens. There were no flowers at all. The only thing worth seeing was the green parrot. Guatemala- I stayed onboard. I'd had enough of long bus rides through poverty stricken areas for a lifetime at this point. Manzanilla- We went on the NCL excursion to Barcelo Karmina Resort. This was close to the ship and a very nice all-inclusive which we enjoyed. The town however is industrial and polluted. I think NCL should take it off the itinerary. Puerto Vallarta- I stayed on the ship but if you like to shop there is a big mall and a Walmart. Cabo- Great way to end our trip. Tendering was fast and easy. The town is beautiful. We went to Casa Dorada resort with NCL. Our tour group had access to a hotel suite which we could access from the pool area. We had a complimentary buffet lunch and a free beverage (any). I had a Bahama Mama which was good. Margaritas were good too. Make sure to be out on deck at sailaway to watch the whales. We saw many, many whales. This was a great way to end our trip. I'd go back to Cabo. Overall- I had a great time on the cruise and would sail NCL again. Read Less

I picked Norwegian Cruise Line because it departed from New York City. The embarkation was not easy. It took way too long for a handicapped person to complete the onboarding process even I went through the special need line. The ship is a smaller ship compare to other Norwegian ships or other cruise lines. The cabin is also small compare to other cruise lines especially the bathroom. However, I love the food option on the ship except the food at Orchid Garden which was horrible, it was way too salty. Also, the handicapped areas at Garden Cafe were always occupied. The cruise staffs should help the special needed passengers. All shows at Stardust theater were magnificent except the comedy show which was not funny at all. Yet, the services on the ship was exceptional. The cruise staff for activities were super friendly and helpful especially the girls named Sarah and Ranya. We like Norwegian and it works with the schedule we have. Have been on the Gem before but feel she needs a refurbishing. Carpets were worn in many areas - the transition of caret from stairs to next level was deceiving, had to be really careful did not miss the step and fall. It was obvious that our cabin had a problem since over my bed the ceiling was black and had some of the ceiling material missing . The wait staff is very efficient to serving alcoholic beverages BUT one of our group does not drink alcohol and had to wait at least 5 too 10 minutes after we had our drinks before he received either his Pepsi or coffee. The ship ran out of creamers and strawberry jam (I can maybe see the running out of jam BUT not creamers. Think it is time for the entertainment on the Gem needs to be changed in the routines used - we love Mr. Tim but his performances used the same material as the year before. I did not care for the female singer but that is just me. The dance troupe/singer are wonderful but again it was the same shows as the year before. I think that for most people cruising you should have instructions as to how the shower controls work or someone could get really burned. We still love cruising and dealing with Norwegian but my thoughts as requested. THANK YOU Read Less

This is my 15th cruise, spread over 5 cruise lines. My third NCL and most likely my last NCL. Where to start.... It’s no secret that NCL nickels and dimes you to no end, however they have reached new lows. I understand that it’s a business that needs to make a profit but NCL needs to learn that they must provide a service, and in this business a good service to compete. Most people have the beverage package, which NCL charges a 20% gratuity. Well, trying to find someone to serve you on this ship is near impossible and when you do, they’re expecting cash tips from you. On Other cruise lines I have actually been annoyed at how many servers asked me if I needed anything to drink, well I miss that service ! I don’t really blame the workers as most of them are working as hard as they can, it’s just that bars and restaurants are severely understaffed. Dinner in the complimentary dining rooms is not very impressive food and not very impressive service. So, you pay a fee and go to the a la carte restaurant. Well, the food is much better however, the service is ridiculously slow. Waiters are literally running trying to cover their tables and often forget you. And then when they see you’re unhappy ( in my case waiting an hour for my medium cooked steak that finally arrived near raw) they become nervous that perhaps you will complain to their supervisors.... just making things worse. Pools ( when actually open) are dirty .... one example is my wife and I sat on the sun deck and people beside us spilled their drink and some food.... well that food stayed there for 2 days before being cleaned up..... never saw that on other cruises. Garbage and recycling bins around the bar area drip all over the deck being over filled and never emptied with half finished drinks etc. I can go on and on, but the fact is, it will take a super cheap price to get me to even consider doing another NCL again.... I work too hard for my money and knowing how other cruise lines take care of their customers for the same money.... it’s no contest. Read Less

We're simple people and not picky at all so we found ourselves going to the buffet for most of our meals and it satisfied us. It's nothing fancy but honestly i'm on vacation im not trying to be fancy or complicate myself. We did try the Teppanyaki, Cagney's, Moderno, Sushi specialty dining, and thought the food was good. I'd say our favorite was Cagney's, although, the service was a bit slow we weren't in a rush so didn't care. Entertainment- we went to the Stardust theater every night. The shows were fun to watch! But the Bliss Lounge needs some work on their nightlife for sure! get a new DJ. On several occasions, we walked in and left cause it was so dead. We are casino people so we had fun there but I agree with other comments that there's not much to do after 11pm. Def wish there was more of a nightlife entertainment past 11. We got an inside cabin, and it was just fine for the two of us cause we only went in there to change, shower and sleep. Daytime activities were fun- bingo, poolside games were fun to watch, and did a mojito tasting among other things. The catamaran in Antigua and the pirate ship in St. Lucia are def worth it!! For St. Kitts- buy an excursion at the main port. We paid $20 for a day trip to a local beach club that included transportation and some site seeing on our way there. Barbados- if you're up for some fun go to the Boatyard!! Wish we would've stayed longer in PR but we did the Bacardi factory and still had time to get dinner in Old San Juan. Overall, we both agreed we had a great trip and loved that we were never bored!! We came back raving about the trip to our families and are excited to take them on their first cruise on the Bliss next January!! Read Less

This was our first cruise and we loved it, all the staff were absolutely amazing, so helpful, friendly and fun. The ship exceeded all our expectations, the quality of the food in all the restaurants was of a top class standard. We went premium all inclusive & was well worth it, all branded drinks & some awesome cocktails. Lots to do on the ship and excellent entertainment. Cruised the Caribbean & getting on and off the boat was simple and very organized. Great weather, exceptional staff, ship & shore excursions. Couldn’t fault it - would definitely recommend a balcony cabin. We loved eating at La Bistro, Cagney, la cucina, moderni & the Teppanyaki was great fun & the food was faultless. The Stingray city tour in Antigua & Turtle Cove in St Thomas were the best & lovely to see the animals in their own habitat & cared for - thank you NCL for a great holiday. Read Less

Let's just start off by saying that the customer service was awful. No one offered to assist in any way for anything, snapped my sail pass card out of my hand several times, never greeted you in passing, and the lines to even get a drink at any of the bars was too long to even bother - no waiters going around either. The food.. awful. Cafeteria food unless you go to the Specialty Dining - which is an extra cost. We did not have the drink package but each time we purchased a drink it was wrong on our account - as in, if it was a 'drink of the day' it should have been $8.95 and it would show up on the account as $14.71. I spent a lot of time at the guest service desk each day to rectify my account - great way to relax. Activities... if you don't play BINGO or Gamble, then just don't even bother. I never thought a cruise could be so disappointing - I felt nickeled and dimed the entire time. Just DON'T.. Norwegian is terrible. Read Less

We had a wonderful time on the Gem! We’ve met new friends along the way also the ship has a friendly crew. The Gem seemed like it was lacking crewmen. Service was somewhat subpar in some cases. Service at Cagneys on our second specialty reservation was awful. Any ways we had a great time on her. I was not impressed with the casino staff, I had requested my points to be transferred from the other ships but only one was forwarded. Gem is a beautiful ship! I’m not sure if I wanna sail on her again. It’s a maybe or maybe not... Gem had a great refurbishment. I love Osheehans it’s my go to bar lol! I’m not sure why the bar stops serving alcoholic beverages at 2am. Osheehans service could can be on a slow side during lunchtime, and around the wee hours. I would suggest the Gem to my friends and family... Read Less

Went on this cruise on September 1-8, review posted on this site, and decided to get away for a quick vacation and maintain the tan now that the weather is turning. Get to the port and being a Platinum member I go to the expedited line to get my ship card. Waiting with 3 people in front of me 10 minutes, 15, 30 45 minutes with no movement on the line, meanwhile the long, serpentine line is moving. Turns out the computers were down on our end. Almost an hour later they decide to move us over to the Haven check-in. Why did this take almost an hour to make this call? You have multiple repeated customers standing in one spot without moving and it takes you this long to apply customer service when you have 3 reps at the Haven check-in sitting there, mind-boggling. Finally, I get to my cabin and the toilet is not wasn't flushing, OK, maybe by the time I get back from dinner. Still not working so I call the front desk who noted it and will get back to me. Went around the ship and on my return saw a message from them and it said the toilet should be working fine, it wasn't. Called back and they said they'll notify the plumber. Long story short after multiple calls it never worked that day/night, next day till 7 p.m. Sunday finally. Being a Platinum member I get 2 free dinners for 2 at Cagneys (with a bottle of wine) and La Cucina, Here's the kicker - being I travel solo they won't allow you to order 2 entree's but what they will do is give you 1 entree' and charge you $4.80 if you want a Caesar Salad, picture attached, even though the dinner they don't give you they're selling to someone else. So the moral of the story is the next time you go on a cruise, and get free dinners for 2, look for someone to accompany you so you wont lose out. Actually this website should have a whole section for future solo cruisers just dedicated for this purpose. What they should do in reality is give single certificates for dinner so instead of 2 dinner for two tickets have 4 dinner for one tickets. The one bright spot in this cruise was the excursion The Orlando Eye Sea-Life Auarium & Madame Tussauds which includes the Star Flyer swing ride the world's tallest. This place is so laid back and really nice to walk around in. You don't feel rushed like Disney and everything is very close to each other, fantastic trip. Of course the personnel on the ship is great and I have nothing bad to say about them and I like the smaller Gem-sized ships but they really need to up their game. I have one more CruiseNext credit left and after that I am going to seriously think about continuing with NCL, even after 13 cruises. Read Less

It was November 3rd, 2018 my 1st Norwegian cruise from NewYork City to Florida and 2 islands in the Bahamas. To start the cruise amount dropped before the cruise about $100 before the cruise. I 'led out the form and called customer services to have the amount adjusted and they refused. I was upset because I have been able to make those type of adjustments in the past with other cruise lines. If you say you o)er the best price you should honor that especially if it is directly from their website. Anyway, I am a frequent cruiser. This was my sixth trip over all and my 3rd trip to Florida and the Bahamas. There were a few other ships docked at our port that day. We got there about 1 or 2 PM and were probably on board by 2:30 - 3:00 PM. We were given our key cards in the terminal. We were sailing the Norwegian Gem and we entered the atrium which was very clean and beautifully decorated. Our luggage was being delivered to the room, so we were not concerned to much about that. We had an Oceanview room. There was a Queen size bed and a pullman bed one the side of the wall. This room was connected to another with a door. I was afraid I would here next door, but I never did. The bathroom had the shower with a glass sliding door, the sink was in the middle, and the toilet on the other side also with a glass sliding door. I like the idea of that kind of privacy just incase someone had to come in while the bathroom was being used. The blues and the browns and the oak cherry wood gave a nice cozy feeling in the room that was to be my home for the week.I think the major di)erences I saw in this ship is at there were so many di)erent places to eat. There was a main dining Grand Paci'c, mid ship dining Magenta, and Asian dining Orchid Garden, and a 24-hour dining O’sheean’s, all complimentary on the ship. And just as many specialty dining areas on the ship. Myfamily went straight to the BBQ to enjoy the festivities at the sail away party. The shows were phenomenal. I didn’t miss one. The service from the sta) was impeccable, which I have come to expect on every cruise. The Cruise Director Lenora was great, warm – spirited, energetic, and very friendly. She taught a salsa, and then a merengue class, which we had the opportunity of enjoying. And my daughter participated in the complementary camp there. The children all performed a wonderful show at the last sea day on the ship. The children’s camp through-out the cruise had interesting times to pick the children up. It was not all day like I was expecting. It was more like 9AM to 12 PM and then again from 1 PM to 3 PM. So, it was di)erent, and di=cult for me to plan around it. There were times my little one wanted to go, but they were closed, and she was a little bored.I like the fact Norwegian o)ers a picture package. This was something new that I have not experienced. I like to buy professional pictures every cruise. I spend roughly around $100 in pictures so their picture package I believe was $140 for ten wasa perfect match for me. That was just enough for me to pick my favorites and take them home. When I purchased the picture package it also came with a mini USB looking like a cruise ship and it came with the digital copies of the pictures, so I could makecopies later or post them on social media if I chose to. The things that bothered me were in the Main Dining, which Ichose to eat almost every morning, missed one request from every meal. If I asked for an omelet without ham – it came with ham. If a meal was supposed to come with fruit they may have forgotten it. The salt and pepper were always labeled wrong. I thought at 1st I as picking up the wrong shaker, but I was not. There were always two salt or two pepper to our table. Every time I visited the restaurant it was like that until I made a complaint. They sent the Manager of the Diners to us when we atat Magenta to inquire about my complaint and looked in to the issue. We ate at O’sheean’s and it took them an hour to serve dinner, when there wasn’t a huge amount of customer’s there. It truly doesn’t take an hour to serve a cheeseburger, soup, and a sandwich. There was a larger family that came after us and the were being tended to before us. I explained to the waiter we were waiting over an hour for our dinner. That is when he served us. When we ate there for breakfast another time the service wasmuch better. I want to say the food was great, but I was not overly impressed. Maybe the better food was in the specialty diners which would be sad because customer’s come for great food on the cruise ship which is usually inclusive. I also visited the Spa and the GYM. They were on the same @oor but accessed separately. The GYM was nice and had every machine you would want in a GYM. We utilized the facilitiesa couple of times. Got to work o) some of those meals! And the SPA was beautifully done. The 'rst time I walked in someone greeted me and gave me a tour. I liked being acknowledged and the tour answered all my questions. I did visit the Spa after goingto a pamper party. I had a wonderful massage and facial which had me glowing the entire trip. De'nitely make a stop in there if you can. Just do not miss your reservation. It is just like a SPA on land, and you do not want to ruin a good time incurring a charge for a missed appointment. I was on a 7- day cruise and complained about the HDTV every day I was there, and it was not 'xed until day 5. I was disappointed with the complacent regard to my complaint. When they 'nally did send someone to 'x the issue, they did call, and leave a note to follow up with the resolve. The lay-out of the ship was a little odd in that one of the clubs was in the front of the ship above the Captain’s room. When throwing a party in that club they shut it down to move the party to the back of the ship, even though it was a very good party. The party didn’t keep its momentum with the move. I felt there were too many youngsters at the party. I was wondering why the little ones didn’t have their own party room as I have experienced with cruise line. Lastly the club in the back with DJ Remy who could not seem to keep the smoothness of mixing songs and traveling from one genre to the next. I was very disappointed an chose not to participate in this activity which I have loved to participate in on other ships. The excursions I feel were standard to what I have come to expect. We took the transport to Coco Beach and spent the day there shopping, swimming and building sand castles. We went to Paradise Island and visited the water park there. Still fun every time I have gone. And We went to Stir up Cay Norwegian’s private Island. There were many activities to choose from. Food was supplied by the Ship and many bars to purchase drinks with your key card around the island. I really enjoyed that day the most. Overall the trip was nice, and although there are things I am used to I now know what to expect with Norwegian. I will might sail with them again and hopefully next trip will be much better. However, I think I will stick with a more accommodating cruise line that will do the things they should do to make you feel more welcome and want to come back time and time again. Read Less

We chose this cruise to celebrate our 50th anniversary and although we have taken 12 cruises, have never been to the Bahamas. One thing I do not understand is why ships port at Port Canaveral. There is nothing to do in port, no shops, no restaurants, nothing. Excursions are offered to several Disney attractions, but between the travel time and crowds, it is hardly worth the effort. We took the shuttle ($15 per person round trip) to Coco Beach and wandered around there for a couple of hours. Great Stirrup Cay was very nice. There were plenty of chairs available both in the sun and shade. The food at the Taco place was good. In Nassau we took the land and sea tour which was a joke. The land part was a bus driver taking us to Atlantis for 25 minutes so we could wander around the high priced shops. He then returned us to the port area where we boarded a boat and took a tour. Our guide was so entertaining and made the trip fun. He pointed out all the celebrity homes and history of the area. The down size to this trip was we were left off about five blocks from the security check point and there were several people with mobility problems that had a great deal of difficulty returning to the ship. No where did it say you would have to walk that far after the water tour. The crew on the Gem was very friendly. This was our fourth cruise on the Gem and we like the size of the ship. As you may have read in other reviews, the food is mediocre at best and rarely arrives hot. I ordered pancakes and they arrived cold. I sent them back and the next ones were cold also. I will say we were pleasantly surprised on our last night when we finished dinner and three waiters came to the table to sing Let Me Call You Sweetheart" in celebration of our 50th anniversary. Our balcony cabin was fine with plenty of room to put all our clothes and articles away and room to shove the suitcases under the bed. The bed was one of the most comfortable we have ever slept on while cruising. The only thing I did not care for was our cabin steward did not make up our room between 1:00 and 2:00 in the afternoon. We often return to our cabin in the early afternoon for a nap or to read on the balcony and we could not because she hadn't cleaned it. We did not have a problem getting on line although it was slow, very slow. But we always got on and even had a few minutes left at the end of the cruise. Embarkation was very long. We are platinum members and still had to wait as the computers went down. Leaving the ship was not bad. There were lines, but they moved along. We have found that if you wait until 9:00 or 9:15 to leave, it is not so backed up. Norwegian does need to improve their embarkation service. When we have sailed on other ships, it is much, much easier. Read Less

The cruise is great, should be perfect if we spend 2 days at Nassau instead one! The Great Stirrup Cay Island is gorgeous, we love it... BUT the swimming with the pigs tour was ridiculous! You pay $109 per person to feed the pigs, they are NOT at the beach at all! They made a gate and space for them but it’s very commercial, they are not free... You don’t swim with them at all, this is fake add! You see them, you feed them, pad them and that’s it! Very expensive for what they offer! Beside that we like it everything else! Just wish to spend more time in Bahamas... for me FL stop wasn’t worth at all... We are there for Bahamas, and Florida was just a waste of time! ;/ It’s a great Cruise, they just have to improve somethings... How about a partnership with Atlantis as well? Could be great.... When I made the reservation for my friend and I and our husbands, I mentioned to NCL agent that we are celebrating my 44 year anniversary. Big year right? Who can say that these days! The agent told me they will send us a cake with a card to celebrate our special occasion..We were left empty!! Our mattress was so uncomfortable that my husband and I received back pain. One week later, we are still experiencing pain..... We tried the food at different restaurants and everything we were served was very cold. Also, the menu was same every night. Overall quality of the food within the Buffet was unacceptable. The ship had over 2000 passengers and all of us could not be accommodated in the dining halls. There were not enough tables to sit and this left us all wandering around to find a table to sit. It was a very uncomfortable experience for all of us. All PA announcements were not clear and we could not understand the anything said. This is worrying in times of emergency. WIFI was part of my package at the time of reservation and I was not able to use it. I personally went to the front desk asking for help but no one knew how to do it. Let’s just say I’m a veteran. I’ve been on 20 cruises in my life and overall this was the worst experience I’ve had to date. Both my husband and I along with our friends were disappointed in taking Norwegian. I chose this cruise to celebrate an important anniversary and it did not meet any of our expectations. I will not recommend this to anyone especially those who want to celebrate an important occasion. Read Less
