We had a typical inside stateroom with the option of a 3rd passenger (only 1 additional bunk present). I was sailing with my 18-year old son, and nowhere before embarkation did it ask me what kind of bed layout I wanted my cabin to have (i.e. 2 twin beds vs 1 queen). Upon first arrival to our cabin after 2 pm (when we had originally said we'd be embarking around noon), there was a maintenance man finishing up some "repair" (insert vague word descriptor that maintenance man said of what he was fixing - i.e. we didn't see anything wrong). My son and I noticed that the 2 beds in the cabin were set up as one queen size bed. This clearly made my son and I laugh, and when we attempted to start pulling the beds apart to set them up as 2 twin beds, the maintenance guy was insistent we let the housekeeper do it. Okay, fine... Soooo on the first night, we allowed the housekeeper to re-arrange the beds and provide us a turn down. I will admit, that I was disappointed to find that we had no mints, no candy, no towel-animals upon arriving back to our room after our first dinner out. While this may seem like a small and shallow complaint, this started the first of my, "It's the Little Things" that made this cruise subpar. There was nothing at all special done to try to differentiate this cruise line's service above and beyond other cruise lines. Once my son and I realized the nightly "turn-down service" was a simple flip the sheet and leave the ridiculous amounts of advertising papers on our bed bit, we decided to utilize the Do Not Disturb dial on our door, as he and I are introverted, preferring to keep to ourselves. While some people may laugh and find it ridiculous that he and I enjoy spending a lot of time in our cabin, reading, playing on our phones, watching TV, etc, this is *our* idea of a "vacation". We like to keep the Do Not Disturb sign up because we do not feel that we need the 2-3 time a day housekeeper coming in and out of our room. We want to be able to sleep in as long as we want, take naps during the day, etc, but our Do Not Disturb dial we chose to set clearly annoyed the Gem staff ... After 2 days of our Do Not Disturb up, as "punishment", we didn't get our "mail" left outside our room (This led to us missing a day of a schedule and all the glorious advertisements with it). That next morning, we actually got a PHONE CALL wanting to know why we had the Do Not Disturb set. I explained about being introverts and not needing all the housekeeping service, only to be then asked, "Don't you at least want fresh towels?" But hen I asked them back, "What about the re-using the towels for the green quality of the environment?" Out of my own annoyance with feeling like I was belittled for NOT wanting housekeeping services, I set my dial to "Makeup Room" and the next day we got our daily mail and a knock on the door to tell us that they needed to do some other "maintenance" (What could they possibly need to fix in the middle of the day when nothing even remotely looks wrong?) This "maintenance" would require my son and I to be out of our room "1-2 hours" They suggested that this maintenance could be completed when we were off the ship or whatever... This 1-2 hours turned into 4 hours, as we checked in multiple times and the guy was still doing *something* - which we couldn't ever figure out... Don't get me wrong, I am well aware these housekeepers WORK VERY HARD... and I was not one that wanted to add to that. I didn't need their "pampering" and instead I PREFERRED to be LEFT ALONE. If I needed/wanted something, I have a voice and can ask. The fact that they use passive aggressive techniques as well as shaming to make me feel like I have to let them in my room, as well as they kept me out of my room for some unknown/unseen maintenance was super annoying - And again, NO towel animals, no mints, nothing with that extra special "something" Read Less

Cabin had good storage, however, it was the tiniest cabin I have ever seen. When bed was made into queen/king I needed to sit on the bed and slide my legs under a table to get to my side of the bed.

A bit of a bore : Cabin 11075
Sail Date: April 2019
When we first walked in it was a bit cluster phobic because of how small but overall okay. Clean and the staff did a great job at always maintaining our room that way.

Well, it was a cabin, but in a nice location 2 floors up to Buffet and pool and three floors to Spinnaker. Located between fwd and midship elevators. With the beds together, there is not space to get around.

The best feature of our cabin was the shower which we found to be roomier than most cruise line showers, however the toilet was on a very weird angle so that you could not sit on it with your back to the lid as you normally would...at 5'6 I had to twist my body to face the shower in order to sit on the toilet. The Steward did not clean the bathroom floor everyday and did not give us clean drinking glasses everyday. The cabin lighting was absolutely horrible especially the vanity mirror area, there was only one lone light bulb at the top of the vanity and the entire cabin can only be described as very dim.
