We went on the Dawn last Summer and everything about it was perfect so we decided to do it again. Booked the Gem because we like to leave out of Boston. We booked 11 months in advance and decided to do a mini suite . We stayed in one last year and loved the extra room! Not the case on the Gem! Our suite had some kind of bump out that took up additional space in our room. We couldnt walk by our bed to get into room without going sideways! We also couldn’t stand in front of closet and open doors! My son had a balcony room that Was more spacious ! When we asked the desk why it was considered a mini suite the rep Manuela De Olivera, became very combative and rude! She said “You are not getting an upgrade!” We told her we didn’t want to move just wanted it noted that cabin 11016 should not be considered a mini suite! She said it was our fault WE didn’t do our homework! She also kept arguing that all mini suites are the same size. (We later found out that our suite was less square footage than typical mini suites.) The customer service rep Manuela kept saying we were wrong so I asked for a manager. He came out and said all mini suites the same. I asked to please come look at it with me. When he got to our room he said you are right this is smaller, also said many others complained about this suite before. Read Less

This is a gorgeous suite and should be problem free, but it wasn't. Our complaint was with the maintenance department. 1) The painting on Deck 13 caused fumes in our cabin, spoiling our experience. We complained constantly throughout the week but nothing changed. They kept painting. We were not the only ones who were affected by this. I ended up with a very sore throat, headaches and sinus problems. 2) One day the a/c was not working. This was repaired in a few hours. 3) This room is under a dining area. At night the cleaners banged around waking us up. Again we complained. It was better the next night, but continued some throughout the week, interrupting our sleep. This department gets a grade zero in their customer service. I'm reluctant to book with Norwegian Cruises again because of this issue. Read Less

I loved being in an aft balcony. I little larger than normal balcony with 2 chairs and a table. It is loud when cruising but I like the sound. We could hear the sound of chairs above us at the Great Outdoors early in the morning but it wasn't too bad. When the seas were rough, we did feel it a lot. I took motion sickness medication on those days and was fine. There is a curtain you can pull between the bed and the sofa bed for a little privacy. It was bigger than a normal balcony and was good for 3 people. Read Less

Unobstructed views from the aft, beautiful when the seas are calm. Remember in rough weather, you’re at the end of the waves. Some prop or engine noise even though you’re high. Also noise from moving chairs and furniture at the Great Outdoors dining area. The hallways were very quiet as there are only six cabins at the back. It was an easy walk to the aft elevators as well. Excellent cabin. Well laid out. We had 4 people in the room and didn't have any problem moving around. Having a full tub was great!
