It's a very large, highly populated ship. The pool area could and should be bigger to accommodate the 4,000 plus guests. It's shoulder to shoulder in the pool area but there's a very busy bar and it has a great vibe. And they seem to handle the crowds well, with the exception of booking entertainment reservations. I confess, this was our sixth cruise, three on Carnival and three on NCL, and this was the first time we've had to make reservations to see the shows. The comedy shows were booked "sold out" before we even got on the ship. Frustrating, to say the least. They've turned the on-board entertainment into the "Game of Thrones" where only the fit survive. Book early or miss out. I guess my preference would be that they hold the most "in demand" shows in the big theater. But no. They hold the comedy shows in the comedy club, which is vastly undersized. Why not move the comedy shows to the big theater instead of excluding so many guests who want to see the comedians but don't want to stand in-line on "stand by" in hopes of getting in. Guess that would be too logical. The dining reservations were largely booked as well. Fortunately we booked those before the trip and enjoyed some fine meals at La Cuchina, Le Bistro and Teppenyaka. The crew was by and large, top shelf - eager to please and always very friendly. It's a big ship and a big crew and for the most part, everyone was great. The food was excellent. Service in The Manhattan dining room was slow both times we ate there. It was much faster and more efficient in Taste and Savor dining rooms. We enjoyed some good lunches at O'Sheehans but the menu is a little limited so it's not an every day "go to." Our favorite bar was "Five O'Clock Somewhere" outside on the Waterfront. There we got to know Kamal Jeet, aka "K.J." from India. He was a great server and treated us very well. All-in-all a great cruise. Getting on the ship and off the ship at the end was quick and easy. They have a good system. We love NCL and find that for the money, they offer a great product. We'll cruise NCL again. Read Less

Our first cruise last year was on a smaller Royal Carribean ship, and we loved it. The only down side we found was that there weren't enough activities or entertainment for our age group (mid 50s). This is why we decided to try a much larger ship with another company. We had read many reviews and a large portion of these were quite negative. We were quite apprehensive and a bit disappointed ahead of time of what we might experience; however, we were pleasantly surprised. Yes, it takes at least an hour to embark on the ship, but remember that there are 4600 passengers to process. Disembarkation was very fast and efficient. We were through the doors and outside with your luggage within less than 5 minutes. We had paid for a transfer bus directly to the Miami airport, and that too went smoothly. A 10 minute wait for the bus, but that's nothing really. We had read so many reviews complaining about the food on board, but we loved all of the food. Yes, the Garden Cafe, which is a buffet, isn't as good as all of the other restaurants, but the selection was still varied and pretty good. We dined at Cagney's Steakhouse, Le Bistro and La Cuccina and were treated to top quality food and service. Some reviews complained about how rude staff was. We did not experience this whatsoever. Yes, some of the employees don't smile all the time, but we were always treated politely and with respect. Our room was exactly as in the photos on-line and spotless. Our purser Harold was in our room more than once every day to ensure everything was perfect. Great size and nicely designed bathroom with lots of storage. That is a huge bonus. Lots of closet space with room to hang up clothes and lots of shelves as well. Suitcases fit nicely under the bed. We really liked all of the entertainment. The shows were "broadway" quality. Choir of Man was superb and although After Midnight wasn't our type of entertainment, the qualify of the singing and dancing was top notch. The comedians were hilarious and had us in stitches every time. The cruise director Jacky was AMAZING! All of the game shows he MC'd were hilariously funny and very entertaining. There is always something to do for everyone. A few things we didn't like was how small the adult poor area was and that there were never enough lounge chairs on ALL levels. We had to get up before 7:30 - 8:00 to reserve 2 lounge chairs. On the plus side, people who reserve chairs but don't show up for hours have their belongings removed. An employee goes around every 30 minutes to 1 hour and if a lounge chair is still empty, he puts a red sticker on the chair. If on his next round the chairs are still unoccupied, the person's belongings are brought to Guest Services. Another thing we didn't like was how little seating there was available in the Atrium. There are MANY activities that take place in the Atrium, and there are very limited seating options. Perhaps they can do something about that soon. The water slides were fun, as was the rope course and the mini golf. We were scared on the rope course because it is on the 17th floor and you are walking across a tiny plank right over the edge of the boat. Yikes! Of course, the drinks were fantastic. Try the Pain Killer and the Mango Knockout if you like fruity drinks with Rhum. You also have to try some of the Mojitos at the Sugarcane Bar (a.k.a. Mojito Bar). They are delicious. A few tips: Bring magnets because the ship walls are made of metal. We hung bathing suits, jewelry, belts, etc. on the walls with magnets. If you are a water drinker, you can drink the tap water in your room; however, if you would rather not, there is ice and water available at Margueritaville and in the Garden Cafe. They don't want you filling your water bottles, but lots of people still do it. You can buy a water bottle package, but it is very pricey. I think each bottle comes out to $4.00 - $5.00 U.S. each. Overall, it was a wonderful experience and we will definitely try Norweigan again in the future. Read Less

My husband and I just returned from our cruise with two friends. We drove to Miami on Friday and arrived early on Saturday so we could park at the port. Embarkation was easy and they had our cabins ready by 1:30! The weather did not cooperate but we had a great time anyway. We thought the food was excellent and the servers was very attentive and well trained. We ate breakfast and lunch in the Garden Cafe buffet, with the exception of one breakfast in Taste restaurant. There were many delicious choices, including a small selection of Indian specialties. My husband especially enjoyed the waffles with banana topping. Dinners in the Manhattan dining room were outstanding because of the romantic atmosphere, attentive wait staff, delicious food, and excellent entertainment. We saw both of the big shows in the Escape Theater. After Midnight was enjoyable and the performers were quite talented, especially the tap dancers. Choir of Man was an amazing, energetic experience that was different from anything we’d seen before. We actually saw it once early in our cruise, and we returned to see the last show on the last night, which turned out to be their last show on the Escape. (They are beginning a U. S. tour.) We were sad to leave this beautiful ship and are looking forward to the next time we see her. Read Less

About three weeks ago I was on the Encore and had a luke warm experience. The ship was lovely but the staff seemed too rigid, not terribly friendly and the service was slow at bars and restaurants with mistakes often made. I confessed in that review that I was pretty Loyal to Royal. Well, fast forward 3 weeks and I gave NCL another shot as I was able to secure an awesome last minute deal on a balcony room Christmas week. This cruise on the Escape totally changed my view on NCL. The staff was awesome, service was over the top and this ship seemed to have a better layout. Whereas on the Encore the entire aft is consumed by the racetrack and laser tag, the Escape had Spice H2O on the rear which was an adult area only and did not require membership like the Vibe. I did miss the 15th floor Observation room on the Encore, but I think NCL places rooms like that on ships that may also sail in cold weather climates. Regarding the food, superb in both the main restaurants and the specialty areas. I really enjoyed O’Sheehans on the 7th floor. Great food, quick service and complimentary. Bottom line, I think Encore is just very new and experiencing growing pains. Based on this experience, I would definitely give NCL another shot. Read Less

I’m not sure what I enjoyed more. It could have been the horrible food and service, or it could have been missing the only port I cared about due to the fact that they ran one boat until nearly noon trying to get 5000 guests off the boat. This was my first and I promise my last Norwegian Cruise. Our entire group could not have been happier than the moment we finally got off of this ship. It was the first cruise that I lost weight on. The food ranged from high school cafeteria to Applebee’s in quality. Every attempt at the fine dining restaurants came up extremely short. There was no wow this is great moment at any of the restaurants. Both stops that we had to disembark by a tender had issues. After forcing most of us to miss Roatan completely they quickly loaded everyone up into boats at Cozumel only to leave us sitting in the water for a good 45 minutes waiting on the one dock slip available. Communication from the cruise director and other staff was nonexistent. We didn’t even realize we had to tender at Roatan until the day we arrived. Even once we were informed about the tender nobody could tell us how to get our tender tickets. There was another fun evening with a drunk passenger. The woman fell on the ground clunking her head on the ground before becoming aggressive and angry. We informed the bar tender they needed to call security. Security didn’t show for about 45 minutes and even then didn’t know how to handle the situation. I could really keep going for another page or two. I am going to give one person on the boat a very positive review. July was an awesome server on deck. When he saw us he was right there with drinks. He was very friendly and attentive. July was our one saving grace on this otherwise lackluster and frustrating vacation. Read Less

We chose this cruise because of the destinations and timing. When booking with Norwegian, the sales people were very helpful with excursion planning, packages available to use and cabin selection. As soon as the cruise was booked, I started receiving emails to upgrade EVERYTHING! We were set to depart from Miami at 4 PM on 11/23/2019, shortly after 7 PM, we were finally leaving for the seas. I will say the food on the cruise was fantastic, the entertainment was great and that's the end of the good stuff. The 1st day of excursions, we had to tender to the port. We were all told to meet in what I now refer to as the "Escape Room". After a 2 1/2 hour wait in the Escape Room, we were finally leaving the ship. We did make our excursion but only because it was later in the day, many people did not make their excursions. This did not allow us any time for any thing other than the excursion. Again, after the very long wait to leave the ship, we had about 2 hours of standing in line at the port to get back on the ship. Norwegian finally gave my husband a 20% discount on his excursion because he didn't lunch or some other things included in the package, but the rest of us paid full price for the excursion which apparently included 5 hours of waiting on Norwegian. The 2nd excursion day was better! 3rd Day of excursion was in Costa Maya with 4 other cruise ships in this very small port. We got off the ship, fought through some of the crowds and then headed back to the ship in frustration. 4th Day of excursion, TENDERING FRUSTRATION AGAIN!!! Our time to meeting for the excursion was 6:45 AM, we with lots and lots of other groups were waiting at 6:45, again almost 2 hours later we finally got off the ship. I had booked this excursion after seeing the description of an all-inclusive, approximately 8 hour natural water park excursion. It turned out to be 45 minutes of travel on a small boat where the green plastic bags were passed out for all the vomiting on the boat. After that excursion, we had about another hour long bus ride to the Xel Ha Park. We arrived here at 11:00 AM and were told we had to be back on the bus at 2:30 PM. Our approximate 8 hour excursion turned into a short 3 1/2 hours. We were again given 20% off this excursion after my husband spent easily 2 hours in line with guest relations. Lastly, it was a very large ship and had a splash area (pool) for kids and ONE (YES, JUST ONE) pool on this cruise ship. It had an occupancy sign for a maximum of 39 people. We talked to several people along the way, some experienced cruisers, and the feeling in general frustration and dissatisfaction with Norwegian and this cruise. It will probably be quite a while before I consider another cruise and most likely it will not be on Norwegian!! Read Less

This was my third cruise and the 2nd in the Caribbean. Spent close to two days in Miami before boarding the ship. Had an enjoyable time on our one whole day there. Very impressed with the ship. I've suffered from sea sickness on past trips but had not a moment of sea sickness on this cruise! Service at all restaurants was fine as was the buffet. The entertainment was enjoyable. Loved the upper deck with the pool and jacuzzi and the nightclub on the top deck. Beautiful weather as well! Loved the movies that were shown on the giant screen as well. I was not too happy with the port of call in Honduras. Did not like the fact that we had to wait a long time to board boats to bring us to the port and the transportation once we were there was not reliable. I did love Belize and the two stops in Mexico. The Maya ruins in Costa Maya were one of the best parts of the trip and our tour guide was very friendly and knowledgable! Overall I would take take another Norwegian Cruise again! Read Less

This being my first cruise I wasn't sure what I would expect. I live on Long island so driving to Manhattan Cruise terminal was not a big deal. Arrived early walk through security very quickly. Waiting no more than 15 to 20 minutes. Proceeded to go to the line that matched our edocs. just one tip this is where they give you your boarding number. Then proceeded to go to check in and set up our pictures and cruise cards. Then we took one picture by picture of the ship. ( and let me add this was the only time during the whole entire cruise that anyone bothered us to take a picture, we did see photographers and if you chose to take a picture we could have spoke to them. So people who say that they are bothered and they're very pushy are extremely exaggerating). Sat down and waited to be boarded. As I was sitting down I realized everyone but us had a boarding number. Ask one of the crew members that were they are what we should do, he told us as soon as they start calling numbers come up to him and he'll put us in a line. So we were able to board the ship right after the Haven customers. The whole process took maybe 40 minutes at most before we were on the ship and drinking. The ship itself was very very clean and beautiful. I will say that the smell of smoke is very strong in the casino. We were on the ship even before anyone was in the casino smoking,so if you're sensitive to smoke I can see it being a problem. Immediately booked our shows and change some dinner reservations. Very easy to do at the touch screens. Found another bar and had a few more drinks. Had the ultimate drink package that was one of our perks in the cruise and I would never cruise without one. Nothing that we drank the whole Cruise was over the $15 limit..No need to switch and pay for the more premium drink package it's not necessary. Had lunch in the Savoy restaurant. It was practically empty, I'm sure everyone was at the buffet or at the pub. By the time we were done with lunch our room was ready. We were on the 15th floor in the back of the ship with an angled balcony. The rooms I can see being on the small side but for two people it was more than enough, four people though I can see it being a tight squeeze. We had extra space on all balcony which was wonderful. But I will say if you're prone to seasickness definitely do not have the back of the ship cabins. You can really feel the ship moving. Met our room Stewart, Rochelle, immediately. She was absolutely wonderful the whole trip. Anything we needed we got. Our room was always clean and neat. Not a problem at all. By this time we attended the muster drill, it took about 30 minutes and it was over we proceeded to go to" it's 5 somewhere bar"and sit outside for departure. Got to see everything from this location, all the buildings, statue of liberty, and it was beautiful. Then because the weather is still a little cold in November in New York we went to the spa. We paid for the weeks pass prior to leaving, and it was worth every penny. It was wonderful and we never had a problem of anyone from the spa trying to upsell us any of their products or sessions. Also it would be quite impossible for people who don't have the pass to sneak into the spa. You have to go past the whole entire desk of employees and they have to open the door with a different key. You also have to leave your card at the front desk. So people who left other reviews stating that anyone can get in the spa is a lie.The only negative thing about the spa was that the snow room was closed. It wouldn't be much of a big deal if I happen to know that it was closed and August and also October. So it doesn't look like it's a priority to Norwegian to fix. Would have loved to gone from the steam room to the snow room. But even with that it was worth the money. I would have to say that all the food even at the buffet was very good. Service in the restaurants that come with the cruise was excellent. We never received are meal right on top of our appetizers. The servers in those restaurants do an excellent job. All the bar staff that we dealt with through the cruise was top-notch. Allall the crew that we've came in contact with throughout the whole entire ship was always smiling polite and happy. Never saw anyone that wasn't smiling.Hardly ever had to wait for a drink at all. Went to the two specialty restaurants, and they were also very good. At the Brazilian steakhouse BBQ I will say that the service was a little slow. We also saw all the shows that the ship had to offer. I felt they were all done very very well. Not everyone has the same taste, but the cast and everything we saw was top-notch. The pool itself I will completely with most reviews I've read, is very very small for 4,000 people. We spent most of our time up in the spice H2O lounge which was adults only. But the cruise being in November when most children have school there weren't many kids on the ship. If you have a problem dealing with children I would suggest taking a cruise when school is in session. Disembarking the ship in Manhattan was a little chaotic. The elevators open on people on the lines, everyone yelling not to cut them off, not enough Norwegian crew out to keep the lines in order. But got on top of it as quickly as they could, and it only took about 45 minutes to disembark the ship with the self checkout. I would highly recommend Norwegian to anyone who would like to take a cruise. Enjoyed the trip immensely. Read Less

Had to schedule entertainment and nobody told us that we had to and by the time we figured it out they were all booked. The only good thing is they push for sanitizing your hands before entering the buffet which was a good thing and I never seen on any other cruise. The decor is beautiful and more relaxed environment but was disappointed with the above issues. Oh and first day couldn't get in the room because they never antivated the key which was annoying because we had to wait for the elevator to get to cs for 30 mins and then in line for cs for another 45 mins because they forgot to antivate a lot of keys. The price of the trip was fare, The ship was renovated recently and was in excellent condition. The balcony cabin was more then enough room for two people and was kept clean by the staff constantly. The food and the dining experience were impeccable. As for the entertainment and activities the cruise director (Jacky) was incredible, I was impressed with his schedule of entertainment and activities he had during this cruise. Service by the staff through out ship was impeccable. The cruise line also provided a numerous amount of port and shore excursions. In my opinion NCL is one of the best cruise lines out there and I will be traveling with them in the near future again. Read Less

I wanted a low cost cruise and I got it. The Escape has obvious design flaws, pools are too small and not enough elevators, and 6 hot tubs for 4000 people is not enough, but beyond that was fun time. The entertainment was really excellent and a lot to do. After Midnight was great and so was Choir of Man. The "side" shows Fab 4, the comedians and Kid Ace (magic) were also great. The water slides and rope course (where else can you zipline on a ship) were also a blast. The ship felt a little understaffed. Food and service was good EXCEPT in the "luxurious" Manhattan Room where children were allowed to run on the dance floor and a baby in diapers was crawling around. YUK! The staff did nothing with these horrendous kids nor the parents who apparently thought their children's behavior was "cute". On previous Norwegian cruises they prohibited shorts in the Manhattan Room but apparently now anything goes. If you are expecting anything luxurious or classy probably Norwegian is not for you. Service was slow to non-existent in the Manhattan Room. The piano bar District Brewhouse was very fun although drinks pricey. Service in Taste and Savor restaurants was excellent! Another plus is never had a problem getting a table at the buffet which is another big plus. I love O'Sheens pub restaurant in atrium but sometimes it's noisy with the atrium activities. Tendering at Great Stirrup Cay was a nightmare and even though we were in tender group 2 (of 24) took almost 45 minutes to get off. Some waited 90 minutes to get a tender, There were two ships at the Island and the captain said it would be crowded and it was although they had plenty of chairs on beach if you walked a little. For some reason Norwegian chose NOT to use the ship tenders so waiting for the shore tenders (now split between two ships) was nothing short of a nightmare. They wanted $21 rent for an umbrella on beach, which seemed ridiculous. Water was warm and nice in Great Stirrup Cay. Another slight minus was the Port Canaveral stop was too late in the day to do much there. (got in at 1:30) I used Lyft to get to the Space Center (which BTW is much cheaper than the Norwegian Excursion) but had only about 3 hours at the space center which isn't enough time to see everything. (they close at 6) I'd suggest recruiting 3-4 people to go and getting one UBER or Lyft. Still I hadn't been to the space center in 30 years and was very fun to see. In conclusion I got a good deal on this cruise so I can't complain a lot. Read Less

35 yo, couple. We really liked our trip to Bermuda with Norwegian Escape. It was a really cool adventure as first-time cruisers. The ship is well maintained - the staff is super friendly and the balcony cabins are spacious for a couple. The complimentary food was OK. Not the best but we did enjoy it. The shows were awesome. Our main problem was with the SMOKING been allowed on the ship in the casino. First of all we couldn't play in the casino because of the smoke. BUT even if you didn't play the casino you coudn't avoid the smoke - the casino is located in the midship near main attractions and dining area. you just can't avoid passing through the casino that is packed with smokers. Disgusting and unhealthy. My wife is pregnant and we really suffered from that. NCL - please progress to 2019 and don't allow smoking on the ship. You can allocate dedicated closed smoking rooms in the casino but please don't force everyone to suffer!!! Read Less

I have to start by saying the staff onboard this ship certainly give the impression that they love what they are doing! That was very refreshing! The activities were plentiful and entertaining. The food was good, but I do have to say that service in the Main Dining Rooms was difficult at times. The staff seemed to be run off their feet. During our first breakfast in Taste it took almost half an hour to get our first cup of coffee. The empty cups and cream were set on the table as soon as we ordered coffee, but no one came to fill the mugs despite asking multiple times. This trend continued intermittently throughout the cruise. Sometimes we did receive a small pot of coffee right away, but all too often we had to beg for our first cup...and refills just didn't happen. The bar drinks and other foods were typically served in a timely manner though. Our last dinner which we took in the Manhattan Room took over 2 hours. This was disappointing because we had a 7:30pm show and took care to arrive to the dining room by 5pm. At 7:30 we actually left before dessert was through. This was shocking. It was very busy by 7:30, but when we were seated at 5pm there was only a handful of people seated. The food was good, but the slow service was disappointing. Our server seemed to be rushing, so we didn't complain. It just meant that we arrived to Choir of Men late. But speaking of Choir of Men...that was fantastic! Such a great show. We also really enjoyed After Midnight and the bar entertainment, namely Sing-a-long with Justin Golan and Howl at the Moon (duelling pianos). The cabin was nice with a lot of storage cubbies. (We had a mid-ship balcony on the 15 floor). Our 14 year old son thoroughly enjoyed Entourage. All in all an enjoyable vacation. Read Less

My husband decided to take me on our first cruise to Bermuda. We both never went on a cruise before, so, we were very excited. From the phone reservation that we made with Starling (NCL representative), to the end of our trip, we were just amazed by the whole process and operation. We found it easy to deal with. The embarkation process information could be a little bit clearer. After the cruise, we thought a later embarkation time is better. If you arrive early, you may have to wait in line. They call people by the group number. So, later time would guarantee less wait time because your group number would have been called already. The Escape ship is huge and beautiful! It didn’t look that big while we’re inside because walking from the front to the back of the ship didn’t take that long or could it be due to activities and decorations surrounding the interior ship. Once we embarked on the ship, we went to the buffet section because we were advised to do so by the staff at the ticket counter without knowing that the main dining rooms were already opened for business. So, please go to the main dining room if you could wait a little bit to get your meal, otherwise go to Garden Cafe buffet on Deck 16 to eat right away. We were hungry due to waiting in line, so it worked out good. We only enjoyed the buffet 2-3 days for breakfast and lunch during our 7-day cruise. We went to the main dining rooms and specialty restaurants most of the time. We received 3 specialty restaurants plus free Wi-Fi service that came in the package. However, the free Wi-Fi lasted 4 hours, so on top of that, we bought an unlimited Wi-Fi service for only $80+ and stayed connected the entire time. After lunch on embarkation day, we went straight to our room. We booked an Oceanview as per Starling, because of our first-time cruise. He was correct to suggest this because we spent most of our time outside the cabin. We had Natalie, a lovely steward. She was so nice from day one. She cleaned the room each time we walked out, so the room was always clean and neat. Awesome! The employees were exceptional! Whatever training they made them do was worthwhile and paid off. I think Norwegian Cruise Line nailed it in the service business. The hosts and hostesses were very accommodating. Sometimes this goes both ways. We’re the type of people who make conversation with employees no matter where we go and dine. This little thing goes a long way. We remember Jay Bee Morales, Noelia, Luh, Ivanna, Claire, Wayan, Chris T, Dinalo, and many others but these names stick with us because we talked to them more than once. We were so thankful for Jay Bee’s hospitality. He’s an assistant Maitre D and he ran a great crew! Everyone on the ship worked hard to maintain the service to a high standard. I must admit that we plan to take the same cruise again. About the entertainment on the ship, we saw two shows. The third night we saw “After Midnight”. We booked this before the cruise date. This show was mindboggling! We enjoyed the performance, especially the tap dance by the trio. We also enjoyed the singing by 2-3 talented artists, great voice! On ‪our last night,‬ we saw “The Choir of Man” and this one was fantastic! We booked this on board. The selected songs in this show were perfect. We enjoyed the music and don’t mind seeing it again. We will try the comedy club and karaoke next time. The food at specialty restaurants was slightly better than the main dining rooms. We liked the French restaurant, Le Bristo. Teppanyaki came in second place and the Italian restaurant, La Cucina was just so-so. At Teppanyaki you would get a complete set of the dish plus full entertainment by the Chef. We had Yudo as our Chef. The chefs sang while preparing and decorating food, the whole nine yard! The Italian restaurant, La Cucina couldn't really compete with Italian restaurants in NY; it was just ok. We will try other specialty restaurants next time but definitely would go back to Le Bristo. We had the opportunity to use the gym and the experience was amazing because I used the treadmill and elliptical machines overlooking the sea, how cool is that! I also visited the mini library. This state-of-the-art room was beautifully decorated. The gallery of paintings took a lot of space. They were nice to look at but we wouldn’t purchase them because some of them were not authenticated. We didn’t use any excursions because my husband knows Bermuda well. He’s been there a few times in the past. The ferry from Royal Naval Dockyard to St George’s and Hamilton are not hard to get. There’re plenty of transportations to take us to the beach. We tried the bus to Horseshoe Bay Beach (gorgeous beach!) and we also used the ferry that took us back from Hamilton to the dockyard. I will try to see more of Bermuda next time. The weather didn’t cooperate on one of the three days we were there. The last day in Bermuda we went to the Snorkel Beach, 5 min-wall from the dockyard. This was not a bad beach but too small and we had to pay to access this beach. We never went on a cruise prior to this and we're glad the first experience was magnificent! The overall experience was fantastic! Thanks for making our first cruise a happy one! Read Less

We are avid cruisers. The ship was beautiful, clean, alive with activities and the staff was AMAZING! Staff was amazing helping me with my Keto diet!! Above and beyond helpful!!! I could easily order meals without carbs, but it was sad to have no dessert. Sugar Free is different from Carb Free. So I spoke to the head chef, and he assigned an assistant maitre’d to help me. They ended up creating a special carb free dessert for me for every night! I felt so cared for!! It was amazing! That assistant maitre’d phoned me regularly in our cabin and left information for each meal. It was unbelievable!! The only downside to this sailing was that it was far too crowded. Perhaps it is the nature of the cold-weather cruise for the inside gathering areas to be crowded. People were fighting for seats in the Atrium. Groups would stake out seats in the Atrium first thing in the morning, and then take turns saving those seats throughout the day. Staff always brought in folding chairs, but we were on a cruise for comfort and relaxation. Folding chairs did not meet our needs. That’s why they put the wonderful, cozy furniture in the Atrium. By far the best cruise we have ever been on !! Normally we cruise with Royal Caribbean but will be sticking with NCL from now on. We travelled on Sept 22nd to Canada and New England and had an absolute ball. Fantastic ship, lovely food, excellent entertainment, the staff were fabulous and nothing was too much trouble for any of them. Alvin the cruise director is the best we’ve ever seen by far, so funny and really made everyone so welcome. The game shows were hilarious as were the 70s and 80s dancing comps. We had an aft facing balcony cabin, normally we would have a suite and spend a lot of time on the balcony, but because the entertainment was so good on the Escape we only used our cabin to sleep in ! I can’t really pick out any part of the cruise that was the best as the whole of it was fabulous and we really can’t wait to go back on this excellent ship. Read Less

NCL does an outstanding job of hiring. I'm not sure where they find all the smiling faces, but it sure makes for an enjoyable experience onboard. We took four excursions. Three of them were great (Lobster Boat, Carriage Ride in Acadia, and Maple Syrup Tasting); one was only fair (Lunenburg). The later was just not to my interest, nothing actually wrong with the tour. We only went to one show onboard ("After Midnight") and it was excellent, high energy with a talented cast. The food was better than I expected. I would particularly recommend Moderno, but only if you're hungry. The specialty restaurants were very nice, but so were the complementary options. My favorite is the Manhattan room. There are many entertainment options onboard while at sea and while in port. If you have nothing to do, it's because you choose to do nothing--and that can be fun too. We will be taking another cruise on the Escape at the end of this month. Read Less

Too crowded at times, not personalized, nothing out of the ordinary. We normally have at least have one night where lobster is offered in general dining on cruises with other carriers and it was not offered on NCL. We feel that NCL pushes specialty dining a lot to make more money rather than put money into regular dining. Regular dining was good, just not exceptional. We did always go to buffet dining for Breakfast but very crowded and no place to sit and the waiters were really not interested in serving us. We had to ask them for coffee, etc. They were not very friendly either. On other cruises the crew was always very friendly. etc. It just seemed like they were lacking in enthusiasm or whatever to wait on anyone. Maybe they are just too tired of waiting on everyone, too many people. It seemed that way all throughout the ship. Your cruise director was fantastic! Alvin was really the best! We urr were part of the Jimmy Sturr Polka Group and that was difficult also, since other than the last day of dancing, the room we had was way too small and crowded and not comfortable at all for the number of people in our group. It was not a safe environment at all! It felt like when y ou take a bunch of people and stuff them into a room and keep shoving them in until you can't get anymore in! Very disappointed in that!!! There was a major problem on this cruise: SMOKE from disgusting cigarettes. There was smoke from the casino that permeated all 3 floors of the area by the restaurants, floors 6,7 & 8, by the Tobacco Rd bar (The cigar room was there), by the jogging track where it went by a bar ( I was walking and had to breathe smoke), by the Le Bistro. Also there were not enough seats to listen to the guitarist by Tobacco Rd,and smoke by H2O bar and hot tub. We even smelt the dam smoke when I opened our balcony door. You could even smell the smoke in the Atrium area. When we got out of Le Bistro (which was mediocre and ridiculously small portions) the smoke hit you in the face. We would of spent more time gambling if it were not for the fact that it was hard to breathe with all of the smoke. When we were in the hot tub by the adult pool, young parents were bringing there below five year old's in there. There was nobody to supervise and watch for this and get them removed. I do not need to be in a hot tub with kids splashing. This ship was too crowded and had inadequate elevator service. You literally had to wait for multiple elevators to pass before there was enough room to squeeze in one. There was elevator congestion for most of the cruise. We did not have these problems on Celebrity and Royal Caribbean. We have been on ten cruises, 3 of them NCL. We will never take another unhealthy air NCL cruise. We have to wash the smoke smell out of out clothes. There was also the constant smell of dried urine from the toilet. I just searched the net and this another common complaint about the ship, in addition to the smoking. I constantly told the steward about it and he used cleaning supplies to mask the smell but it did not take care of the problem. I am going to add this to my social media postings, so potential cruiser's will know what they are getting into. NCL falls far short of Celebrity and Royal Caribbean. We will never plan a cruise on NCL again. Read Less

We chose this cruise because we wanted to go to Bar Harbor Maine. We like sailing out of New York City. We were on the ship by 11:45 am. The ship was completely full and many times this presented a problem. There was plenty to do on the ship with the entertainment being the best. I was happy that the casino had a non smoking section. The food at the restaurants was hit or miss. The only extra pay restaurant we went to was the Modeno and that was very good. The service was also so so. One things that really bothered me was because the ship was so crowed that people were waiting to get in the dining rooms and because of this, I felt like I was really rushed to finish my diner and leave. The other problem with the ship was the lines to get on the elevators. We had a balcony cabin that was kept very clean as was the rest of the ship. The week we were on the ship, Guy Harvey was on it with his daughter and they different types of presentations. He is the person that painted the hull of the ship. The Man of Choir show was the best show that we have seen on a cruise ship. We liked it so much that we saw it twice. We booked all four of our excursions with Norwegian and they were all good to very good. The cruise was not as good as an Alaskan cruise but I would still recommend it. Read Less
