We chose this cruise after ten days of sub zero weather, and we wanted to try leaving from Port Canaveral. We live close to Worcester Ma airport and it has two flights to Florida dally on Jet Blue. We flew to Orlando in less and 2.5hours. We stayed at the Comfort Inn at the Airport. The room was more than expected, clean and comfortable. My sister booked last minute ,and the hotel was booked completely. They allowed her to stay on the pull out couch for no extra cost. The breakfast was the usual hotel buffet breakfast no fee. We used Cortrans Shuttle service for transport to the port. They were early and efficient for $40per person round trip for the one hour trip to the port EXCELLENT. Embarkation went without a hitch.
This was our eighteenth cruise with NCL. We are Platinum-plus, and have never needed to call attention to that before. We had a small meet and greet, with only 5 officers available to speak with us. This was spring break for many being the week before Easter. Lots of kids. I really cannot remember any child really causing a problem. There were at least a hundred teens. This ship is designed for families. It is massive. .5,200 passengers.
We were in room 11259 ma mini suite. The set up is strange. The noise of the toilet flushing in the middle of the night will wake your roommate unless they are very heavy sleepers. This room has its problems. We were without cold water for 3 days just luke warm until some turned on the cold some where else then to hot. Our room attendant Mede reported it 2 times. On the third day when I was scalded I call the Hotel Director. There was a plumber there within minutes. We were told they were waiting for a part. They also told us the problem was in the next room, and the people would not let them in. Guest services became involved. They fixed it on the fourth day, and we noticed the carpet was damp. Thought maybe Mede spilled the ice bucket, no need to make a fuss. Day five we came back to our room with big air movers. We were told there had been a problem with the tub next door, Day 6 it was wet again, but worse and it smelled like dead worms. Again with the air movers. By this time We are starting to get cranky. We went to print our boarding passes, and were unable to get in to the computers. Between myself and husband we have 120 min of computer time. In five tries we were only able to get in once for 5 minutes. We went to the service desk and were told the computer person was at a desk in the atrium. He was able to get in and print our passes. He told us he had to man the desk in the atrium while everyone was trying to print passes.
We tried to book shows before we got on board, and apparently they did not take. The lines to book shows were ridiculous. We were only able to see one show The Legends which was excellent.
We met many excellent crew members which all seem to love the ship. We met several crew we have sailed with in the past. They love being acknowledged for having sailed with in the past.
In November we were on NCL Sun. I'm not sure if it was because of the size of the ship, or corporate decisions but we noticed changes. Sometimes it felt like we were on a complete different line. In the past during the week they would have supper (Roast Beef , Shrimp and Steak) in O Sheehan's random days, now only pub type food. There is no eating at any bar on the ship. If this had been the first cruise I had been on I might not have been so in love with cruising . I have come to the conclusion that we are not fans of the Mega ships. We have sailed on the Getaway and were comfortable. We found this ship to be very loud and confusing. There is no elevator stop on the 5th floor the atrium. You must go to the 6th floor the casino, and take the escalator down. The casino floor opens to the dining room, think of the noise in the casino going down to the dining room. The atrium opens to O Sheehan's so you hear all the programs they have on the big screen, towel folding, future cruising, etc. very loudly.
At night without reservations there is not much to do. Two nights we found movies in Spice on the big screen.
I must say there were no complaints with the food. We went to the Italian restaurant one night, the steak is excellent. Cagney's another night where they brought my sister a Birthday cake.
Bar service was very good, loved the guys in the pool bar.
In Jamaica we did the Martha Ray Bamboo river raft. I was not expecting to much, and was pleasantly surprised. It was beautiful and very relaxing. One of my favorites.
In Grand Cayman we did the Atlantis sub because the snorkel was sold out. This was a little disappointing as I have snorkeled in Grand Cayman many times and love it. My personal favorite place to snorkel. We did not see very much except coral. We have done this in Pearl Harbor and the seats seem to be tighter together 2 people must share one window.
On great Stirrup Cay we rented a clam shell which we hardly spent much time in. So much to see. When we got there in the am it was windy and the water felt cold. By the afternoon it seemed to warm up about the time we needed to head back. Water shoes were necessary in some areas.
We did call the concierge for disembarkation, as we had an early flight, which was very quick and painless. Again we used Cortrans with perfect timing. Read Less
