All in all for the price the cruise was really good! I didn't pay too much at all so the things that might have bothered me otherwise didn't. I was in the Solo Cabin so I also believe my experience was different from the non solo. The biggest issue I have is with the men in the solo cabins (not all!) but a lot of them seem to be on the cruise for one reason and many of the ladies in the solo cabins felt it and when I polled them they said they would not do the solo cruise again because of this reason. Norwegian can't really control that. The food in the specialty dining was amazing! But the service was quite slow. The food in the buffet was great but I didn't like the pizza at all. Horrible. I loved the smoked salmon and capers for breakfast. Yummy!!! All the staff were really friendly and helpful except for just one or two. Embarkment is a mess. I didn't like that process what so ever. They also don't warn you that you will have to do a safety drill in the afternoon after boarding in Barcelona. Flying from the USA I had not been to sleep and wanted to nap. It was not a great experience. The drinks are amazing!! The espresso martini in the martini bar is DY-NO-MITE!! I had about 10 lol. The bushwacker is also amazing!!! All drinks were really good and not watered down at ALL so beware lol The ship is noisier than I expected. Most mornings around 7am have announcements. I didn't sleep in once. The pools are small and filled with kids. Even the pool on the H2o adult spice area is tiny and people stated it was hot like bath water. I WILL DO THIS AGAIN!!!! Read Less

Being our first cruise as a family I was very reluctant to go on the Norwegian Epic due to the low rating I noticed on different sites but that was too late as I had already paid the full trip amount and wasn't ready to bare the cancellation fees. To my amazing surprise that was my best vacation ever and the Epic was so great that I'll never cruise in a different ship. We were 3 adults (my wife, my 21 years old son and myself) in a triple cabin with balcony. The cabin was spotless clean, very good size for a ship cabin as I was expected a much smaller size, the balcony with 2 big size beds was a very big plus. The room design in all aspects including the bathroom was so creative with great space for storage . Dinning at different a la carte restaurant (still complementary) and the big open buffet restaurant was a great part of the trip with endless excellent choices of food and great quality. Non stop Entertainment and different shows were a big problem as we were torn between going down to different port and to stay to enjoy the entertainment. Service, staff, food, entertainment, .... just name it, every thing was perfect. The only draw back was: 1- They don't allow you for even a small bottle of water to bring with you and to buy it there is too pricey. A daily complementary water bottle at the cabin will be a nice gesture to Epic guests. 2- Organized shores excursions are soooooo expensive, so better plan your excursions by yourself in advance and it will cost just a fraction of what they are offering. Below is my honest review and my top tips - I consider myself to be a well seasoned traveller and have done everything from budget to uber luxurious. My big take away / message for anyone is to make sure this type of cruise is for you. I've noticed that a lot of reviews slam certain things that are not a result of the cruise itself, but because of the type of cruise and clientele it attracts. We chose this cruise for the solo cruiser option as my husband and I were travelling with my mom for her 70th birthday. The EPIC does a great job in accommodating single travellers with no single supplement. We embarked and disembarked in Rome. Note, a majority of travellers will start/end in Barcelona so embarking/disembarking was quick and easy. Ship: Very modern, clean and everything was spotless. I was extremely impressed with the attention to detail from staff. The public bathrooms, eating and public areas were never messy and staff were continually cleaning around you. Very impressed. The ship is big - loads of places to see/do onboard With 5000 passengers, this could pose challenges for some but is a good thing for others. Cabin: We had a mid balcony room. Clean and comfortable. I understand why they designed the bathrooms the way they did (to provide better flexibility and more room for passengers). Functionally, it worked. However, if you have issues with your cabin-mate listening to you 'do your business', the small screen around the toilet doesn't do much to hide any sounds. Plus, you don't have access to a sink or shower to run to hide any noises so be prepared to either banish your partner to the balcony if this is an issue for you! Loads of storage in the room - it was awesome. Lots of hangers, nice size balcony, etc. Very good room (we were in room 12116) Food/Drinks: The food in the specialty dining restaurants was excellent as were the buffet options in the main market cafe. The food in the main dining rooms was OK, but we ate the last night here and compared to the food in Specialty Dining rooms which was hard to beat. The meal provided at Cirque wasn't the best (set meal of surf and turf) which didn't provide much flexibility for options. Totally recommended specialty meal package if you can get it! Drinks and Wine options exceptional. Entertainment: Loved Cirque - Awesome! Get premium seats if you can as you are right in the action. Burn the Floor and Pricilla both really good. On board Service: Exceptional! Quick, friendly and very accommodating. I was super happy with the level of service - some of the best I've experienced in a very long time. Ports: Not overly impressed with the ports. I've been to all the cities before. Getting into Florence and Rome took quite a bit of time (due to location away from ocean). Cities right on the ports Marseille and Naples were very dirty. The best port was Barcelona (easy access and beautiful city), however, important to know that the ship docks on Sunday so if you embark from another city other than Barcelona, you will miss out on a lot of really cool things in this city. On Sunday, the main market is closed, as are many of the shops. Still, lots to see and do but if you are into food and want to experience the Gothic Area to full potential, the shops need to be open. It's a lovely city with a great vibe- the best of all the ports of call in my opinion. It was a shame that a lot of it was shut on Sunday, the same/only day the ship docks here. As a result, I'd recommend starting and ending in Barcelona so you can spend some time here. Pre Travel/Booking: - TOP TIP I booked the trip in the UK and paid Stirling. My mom (who lives in Canada) saw the same cruise advertised for the same price in Canadian dollars. Essentially, due to the currency conversion, we paid almost double for the same cruise if we would have booked it through the north american NCL branch. We still would have saved hundreds if we lost our 100 pound deposit and rebooked! NCL would not do anything for us, except provide a $100 on board credit. This is the biggest disappointment of the cruise. If you are thinking of booking a trip, check the US or Canada travel agents or website as you could save hundreds of pounds. NCL offer different deals overseas than here to attract Canadian/North American customers. Overall: The EPIC is a lovely ship, the people and the food were top notch. Exceeded my expectations. My biggest frustration was not the fault of the ship or any of the staff. My advice to anyone thinking of booking - know what kind of cruise you are signing up for. This is not the fault of the cruises ship or hard working staff on the ship. You are on a massive ship with 5000 people catering to families, singles and younger people. There will be screaming children, obnoxious guests and a lack of lounge chairs on sea days (people will put towels on chairs in AM and bugger off all day) - this resulted in more than half the chairs sitting empty all day while hundreds of people wondering around trying to find a spot. Not cool! We had our own balcony so had our own private space which was a god send. You will have to walk - you will have to do stairs, you will need to send your husband on the balcony if you need to poo! It's a big ship! If you have kids, don't mind being around a lot of people, enjoy a drink and good food then this ship is for you! If you are wanting a romantic, quiet get away with easy access to ports without paying for excursions, then maybe this isn't the right cruise for you. It boils down to what you want and your attitude. The NCL Epic was a lovely ship, the staff were awesome and we totally enjoyed the food/wine. When it got a bit overwhelming with people on the sailing day, we had our own little space on our balcony which was great. Overall, we had a great time and recommend if this is the type of cruise for you. Read Less

Cruised B2B on June / July in Studio cabin. Have cruised before on MSC, Celebrity and Royal Caribbean. This was my first cruise on NCL. Overall ship is very nice. From outside it is not so nice looking due to shape but all venues are clean and modern. Studio cabin was better than I expected. Thanks to clever design there is plenty of storage space in the cabin. Worked perfectly for me. Used mainly buffet for lunch and was happy with wide selection and food quality. On dinners I used always specialty dining and was mainly happy with the food. There were service hick ups with certain waiters but overall experience was really positive. I think entertainment on the ship was the best I have seen so far on cruise ships. There is plenty of options for having good time. Despite few hick ups in restaurants service was really good and friendly. The biggest issue for me was the internet connection. It was way too slow and there were plenty of connection issues. Concerning the really expensive price compared to other cruise lines - connection quality was unacceptable. Wouldn't cruise again until they have fixed the connection speed and changed their pricing. The criteria was pretty good: price, room for singles, exact days for my vacation. That's all I can say that's positive. During embarkation my luggage wasn't on my room. They torn away the paper you had to put around the handle. I even put it around the handle you normally do not use when carrying a luggage but they still manage to rip it. Had to call around 20:00 of the first day to recover it. On the first day I found you can't turn off the A/A of the room. You just can regulate the temperature -cool, colder or very cool-. Tried the bathroom and had a leak on the shower head. Asked for a fix and they ignored me. During the night I couldn't speel at all because there was a maintenance room at the other side of the aisle, where they installed the air machine for all the room on that aisle. Too much noise and vibration is a bad combination in order to sleep well. On the second day I went to customer support to explain my case. They said that noise was pretty normal and they couldn't do anything. They still didn't fix the shower either. On that night my neighbors -yes, in plural, even in a "single room"- thought it was a good idea to party up to 3 AM. I called for security to do something and ignored my complain. That was the second night I couldn't sleep at all. On the morning of the third day I asked for the claim form. They said they only have a paper mail thing, so they aren't carrying official claim forms. After that and explaining all the stuff happens last two days they didn't seem to care at all, didn't even offer something for the headache (in their website it says that you have free medicine on customer service) and didn't offer a room change either. They said they were on full capacity. After that I had to leave the ship in order to ensure my health. And what about entertainment? Well, I hope those were odd jobs because everyone I found were so-so. For example, during a broadcasting about Bingo he was dull while explaning about it. I still can remember his last phrase: "it's bingo time, baaby". They also did some trivial about movie titles and couldn't even motivate to take part on it. Those around the trivial were more preocupied in counting floor tiles. By the way, you will find that if you are not a morning person you will never touch a hammock on the pool. Maybe on the first day or during shore excursions but not when you have free time during voyage. Dining was decent, so I don't have any complain about it. Do yourself a favor and never ever choose this company. Read Less

I've just returned yesterday from my first ever cruise vacation, which was on the Norwegian Epic around the Western Mediterranean. And what a great experience it has been! Amazing ship, very friendly staff, nice atmosphere, lots of dining options.... it was truly a fantastic holiday. Let me tell you why: After getting to the port in Marseille, the check-in process on board was surprisingly fast. Then, it was of to see my cabin, and explore the ship. The Epic, with a capacity up to of 4100 passengers, is one of the bigger cruise ships out there (as I've been told by more experienced cruise travellers) so there is quite a lot to explore. But the ship's setup is quite straight forward, so finding your way around is easily done after a little while. And if you do get lost, there are maps and touchscreens available on every floor to help you out. Since I was travelling by myself (background info: 27 year old Dutch guy), I've booked a Studio, which is specially designed for solo travellers. These inside cabins are very modern, with a queen-size bed, a glass shower and mood lighting. The Epic is the perfect ship to travel on for solo travellers, because of these Studios, and especially because of the Studio Lounge, which is only accessible for guests who booked a Studio. A.k.a. a great place to get to know new people and have a drink. With a solo travellers meeting every night at 18.00, with presence of one of the Cruise Staff members (William in our case, he is a great host!) and the option to go for dinner with other solo travellers too, you're bound to make some new friends. After the solo traveller meeting, it was off to dinner. And what a range of options does this ship provide you with. Multiple restaurants (buffet restaurant Garden Cafe and a-la-carte restaurants Taste, Manhattan Room and O'Sheehans) are complimentary, but you can also pay some more and use on of the speciality restaurants. Having dinner in the Spiegel Tent is very recommendable, because of the Cirque Dreams show. In all honesty, the food in the Spiegel Tent is not as good as at Taste or Manhattan, but the show is amazing! From acrobatic arts to classic magic to comedy, this show combines it all inside a very compact and cozy environment. At Taste and Manhattan they serve great food, with a different menu every day (only the classic dishes will remain the same) and hi-quality presentation and great taste. The wine list is good as well, and I tasted quite a few (luckily I had the Ultimate Beverage Package) At O'Sheehans, the Irish styled restaurant and pub, they serve a good and tasty 'pub grub', including chicken wings, a very nice BBQ burger and fish and chips. Over here, you will also find some games, including pool, darts and bowling. After dinner, it was time to enjoy the night. Howl at the Moon at the Headliners comedy club is great fun. These guys (and girl) do songs on request, and make a happy show while doing it. The musical 'Priscilla, Queen of the Dessert' played in the Epic Theatre simply takes your breath away. The acting, singing and decors are all so beautifully done (and, since you're all staying on the same ship, you can run into the stars of the show later on when partying in the Bliss Lounge) Also the Beatles tribute band (playing in the Cavern Club) is amazing, they really get you of your feet. There are other shows too (an opera show and a 60's tribute band f.i.) but I don't see those. Luckily you receive an overview every day of all activities going on the next day, so you can keep track (because I didn't even mention the bingo yet, or the ping pong tournament, movies on big screen, art auctions, trivia quizzes and so much more), besides the 'regular' cruise activities like bubbling in a jacuzzi, swimming and enjoying the sunshine. For a more quiet night out, you can enjoy a nice mix or cocktail (tip: try the Mudslide, amazing iced cocktail) in one of the many bars, such as Shakers (martini bar), Maltings, O'Sheehans (Irish pub) or Waves (bar outside, near the pool) By the end of the night, going on into early morning, Bliss Lounge is the place to go, which is a nightclub-like bar. Although the DJ isn't always playing my kind of music, the atmosphere is nice, and you can dance the night away if you like. I didn't book any excursions through NCL (they are pretty expensive, so just wondered off by myself), but in the Freestyle Daily they inform you about the options ashore (how you can get about on your own, and what there is to see in and near the port of call), so that's great. So was there nothing that could be improved? Yes, there is. Almost every morning (quite early, around 07.00) there are quite loud announcements over the speaker system, mostly for disembarking guests or guests who have booked a shore excursion. Being woken up with announcements (which are mostly not even meant for you) isn't really nice, specially after a nice night of partying. Perhaps NCL can do these announcements differently/more targeted? (perhaps via the TV?) Also, although the Ultimate Beverage Package includes cocktails, wines and mixed drinks (which can go up to about 15 USD per drink) coffee in the Atrium bar or special coffee after dinner is not included. Having an Irish coffee included, but having to pay extra for a capucchino, that seems a bit odd. But, despite these two points of improvement, I still had a very very nice holiday! Wow, that was a long review. So all and all, I've happy to say that my experience on this ship has been great! It was my first cruise, but definately not my last one... and love to go with Norwegian again! Read Less

I have just come back off the Norwegian Epic after taking my elderly father on his first holiday in over 10 years. Disappointed isn't a word I can use strongly enough after the horrendous holiday we have just endured. We were met by over 3,000 Japanese/Chinese passengers who were totally rude, pushing, shoving, fighting to get into the lifts and nearly knocking my father over. These people had no regard to any of the remaining passengers on board and overtook all of the restaurants and seating areas the whole time. We were informed by the staff that we could not dine in the free dining areas as they were full and we waited one evening for over an hour just to get a seat. When we were eventually seated we couldn't have a conversation due the noise levels and we were also pushed at our table so these passengers could take selfies of each other by the window behind us. We were eventually forced to book the fine dining restaurants just so we could have dinner without all the chaos. After queuing at Customer services on the ship for over half an hour, I did tried to complain but they were not interested and advised I should write to NCL after our holiday! The ship was dull with very few nice places to sit and enjoy the view. There was no indoor pool so when the weather was poor we had no place to go. The entertainment was average with only two shows on which rotated every other night. Every other cruise ship I have been on had wonderful entertainment and a different show each night of the week. We spent all evening each night in the champagne bar which was always quiet and peaceful and probably the best area on the ship. The trips and places we visited were wonderful but we booked our excursions with Cruise Excursions and thank goodness we did! After paying over £1300 each for our holiday, we feel totally robbed. I have travelled with other cruise liners and had a wonderful holiday but this experience has left my father traumatised and not wanting to go on another cruise ever again. Norwegian should have informed us that these passengers would have been joining us and we could have decided ourselves if we wanted to continue with our trip. I will never travel with this company ever again! Read Less

I have to say it has been a great experience for me as it was my first cruise, Embarking looked daunting as there was such large crowd But they went through them quite quickly, it took me awhile getting my bearings ,And once I got a marker for my room I was too , I then explored the ship which is very large ,The solo lounge is a good ploy as you meet lots of people same as you, And you can get friends for dinner and plan excursions , All the staff are very pleasant and call you by your first name which is nice , All the food was nice except for one which I had two bad meals in its called Taste. First time I had scallops and pasta when it arrived there was no scallops only cockles and as ex fisherman I would no the difference , And pasta was very salty you could not eat it,The second meal I went for duck it was that tuff you could break a tooth I complainers they took my room number but that was all I heard , Nothing else, And on the last day went to desk to make a complaint no one new any thing about it , So the head waiter came to talk to me he said they were larger ducks than they usually get , but I think they were sitting on a hot plate for awhile myself, Apart from that everything else was great ,Entertainment and bars were good so I would recommend this ship to anyone I will be booking another cruise in future. one tip I would say if you like a drink like me go for the UDP as the booze is quite pricey . This was my first solo cruise (having done several cruises before with friends and family members). If you are thinking of taking a solo cruise this is the one for you, my advice is - do not hesitate. You will not be alone. i met and spent great time so many wonderful people from all over the world, some of them members here on Cruise Critic. Epic has 131 solo cabins, so there are plenty other people traveling alone. The solo lounge is a great place to make new friends and a dedicated crew member co-ordinates events and dining (without pressure) for you all to meet up. I met with lots of people who were just like me, independent but sociable. Solo cruising provides a safe environment to travel and socialize. Norwegian Cruise Lines have really caught on to this concept and have got it right. The standards on board were excellent. A luxurious ship that is well fitted. The food was the best I have experienced on any cruise ship and the staff were 'happy, happy' and very pleased to be involved in making the experience on Epic the best one, making every effort wherever they could. They were there with welcome drinks to greet you back on board and even danced us back onto the ship on our final sailing. The ship was scrupulously clean and the pools, water slides and entertainment were fabulous. The facilities overall were brilliant and the ship was well fitted. The only negative point was there were hardly ever any spare sets in the public areas as the ship was so busy, but it didn't really bother me much, there's always room for one somewhere. Everyone loved their solo cabins. A good description would be 'an igloo'. I absolutely loved mine. The mood lighting, touch screen TV and phone were just some of the luxury comforts the cabin had to offer. Perfectly sized for one, do not be put off. Check them out on www.youtube.com. I have booked this ship again but for the Caribbean for next year (who cares where it is going - the solo cruise experience is great!). I have tried various forms of solo holidays before but this was unbeatable. I simply cannot wait to go again ! Top marks to NCL staff. They were excellent !! Read Less

I traveled the on the Norwegian Epic for Thanksgiving 2015 which was touring the Mediterranean Barcelona to Barcelona. I picked the Norwegian Epic because after hours of reading reviews I saw Norwegian and Celebrity to be the best overall rated ships as well as with less kids during that time of year, and I picked a time it would not be so hot there. I was correct to do both. I am a bestselling author and have traveled the world-so I am doing a serious great review that ship [the Norwegian Epic] deserves. I was timid at first because I could not understand why the same ship and sail dates just returning-would have a huge disparity of reviews, ranging from one star to five star? How is that possible to be on the same ship and port of call and one traveler be thrilled and another miserable-or just "not happy?" or even just three star it. Well, after being on this ship I discovered one huge reason is happy people do not tend to find the time to do a review but unhappy people sure do make the time. After reading a multiple of reviews most unhappiness was related to their actual room choice. Such as they may not have understood "partial view" meant view of a lifeboat. Buffet food seemed to come in second and I noticed those leaving multi star reviews were not using the buffet everyday--and most reviews I was reading was the early days of this new ship where even the staff was trying to adapt. So I picked a port intensive cruise JUST in case I was not happy with the ship. But the most important thing I did was book a room that in and of itself had great reviews. Example, not near the children's center or not right under a bar. You really can check out reviews for the actual rooms these days. I picked cabin 13210 Norwegian Epic that was toward the back of the ship, had great reviews each time from former occupants and was just under the wonderful spa. I also made sure to just buy the $120 Spa pass which allowed me access during normal hours. So I would just leave the spa in my robe and go down one elevator flight to my room. I never had to change there. So the Mandara Spa pass was another great decision because their spa is very clean and lovely. They have waterfalls so powerful they alone can massage your neck and I assume the power comes from the sheer power of the Epic engine system. ***They only issue 120 passes so order yours on line BEFORE YOU GO. I hit the spa every day and they provided hair caps as not to ruin the "hair." And no, I did not book a cruise with the primary goal of pigging out at some buffet. I just lost a lover to cancer and wanted to get OUT of the house and not suffer my first holiday alone. This trip SURE did that and I learned so much! Now with the room issue, buffet sentiments and Spa pass out of the way-let me tell you about this trip and this boat. CABIN 13210 ROOM REVIEW My bed was SO comfortable it was unreal. Former reviews had me thinking I better take a blow up pool float as to avoid some hard bed. NONE of that was true. At least now. And there was ZERO scent coming from bathroom - so I found none of that to be true but brought essential oils just in case. Essential oils will float to surface and block any undesirable scents. Save that trick for Carnival. I picked Norwegian Epic Cabin 13210 because it had a bath tub. I am not a shower person and it was amazing that few knew which cabins had a bath tub-including my travel agent. I had a mini suite and I was able to get 30% off the double occupancy as a single. So, no singles are not quarantined to the lower cabins unless they want to be. And EVERY single I ran into liked their rooms below! And these were lawyers, doctors and so on. My Cabin was impeccably clean and my steward just so wonderful. His name was "Roady" and he created penguins, bunnies and so on-with towels to surprise me each day. I tipped him 50 Euros on day one because I recognized THAT would be my closest most important ally and relationship on the ship. And I was correct. The first day is wild so ask your fridge but UN-stocked the next day of your cruise. Meaning items you do not want to be charged for taking up space in your fridge. I think room service does that-any department answers their phone right away. And they know your name. I had ordered several cases of bottled water to be delivered before I even boarded the ship-four in fact, ($70) I could have gotten by with just two. But water is the second most important thing to your health. Thank heavens I do not drink alcohol because the beverage package can upset some. This served me well. I think with the beverage package people think they can drink until they drop. I also ordered an orchid flower arrangement that lasted the entire trip and was lovely to gaze upon. They last so long I gave them to my steward as I left-as well as the extra bottled water. The water, Spa pass, and flowers were nothing compared to the overall price of my trip. The other thing I heard a lot about is the bathrooms are so thin you can hear your partners every move, Well, you can run sink or bath water for "white noise." Otherwise I found it very well laid out and no, I would not be sharing a room with someone I was not in love with-so maybe the great surprise comes when two people go who are NOT into "seeing" each other. I saw enough curtains to deal with that issue-so this may have been an old issue. So the room was nice in every way and I cannot find any fault with the ship in general. There was so much to do, I could not possibly do everything. The balcony was lovely and I spent a lot of time out there. DINING I only did the Garden Cafe for breakfast and that is to the front of the ship-and they offer a very nice array of poached eggs, eggs Benedict, museili, croissants, honey and my favorite-a corned beef hash that was "diced" with rosemary and not smooshy. So breakfast is a large array at that garden cafe, From the Garden cafe you can see the ocean-or, in this case, the Mediterranean Sea. You do have to work your way around to get all the goods, it is a huge Cafe. Teppanyaki was my favorite and the healthiest meal I had on the entire trip. That $20 meal would cost $40++ per person on land. And I met some great people. Even in the "Spa" I met some great people. I also ate at Cagney's and "Taste" and they were wonderful. For a basic great hamburger I went to O'Sheehans pub. I also ordered a beautiful prime rib from the pub the night before we disembarked and it was no charge. There is a cool bowling alley right along side of O'Sheehans pub. ACTIVITIES There were so many activities on the ship there is no way you can do them all in a seven day trip and there is also no way you can claim to be bored. ENTERTAINMENT Was great, I went to all the shows but I loved the 70's live band whose bar is located near the Casino and any band they had there was very good. I had to drag myself away each time I was there-because they were all so good and I needed to get to bed for morning shore excursions. INTERNET PACKAGE I picked 250 minutes but next time I will just pick the dining package if I get to pick a free feature. This is because I really wanted unlimited and that was $29 a day-BUT for my work--it is a must. Reception was not that bad and my cell phone allowed free texting and WIFI so I was more than covered there. BOARDING AND DE BOARDING Was no big deal and the staff made it fun each time. I think it depends on how full the ship is and I am guessing my ship was half full. CASINO This is where I had the most fun and could secure the least information on the Internet before I went on the Norwegian Epic. The slots are a LOT of fun and I actually left ahead by $242 even using the penny machines. There are many, many different type of slot machines. Black Jack I left ahead $602 because I know HOW to play Black Jack. The Norwegian Epic Casino is large and NO it is not full of smokers. The Epic limits smokers to a certain room-so just do not try to be in that room. I made some good friends in the Casino because we seemed to be creaming the dealer. SANITATION Automatic hand sanitizers were everywhere and I never saw one person sick on the ship except myself and saw the ships Doctor. Yes, the ship has a Doctor and they run about $149 USD plus any meds they may have that you need. I had forgot medication at home so they were able to provide it. OVERALL Norwegian Epic is a beautiful ship and I will aim to only cruise Norwegian from now on. Pricing and check out was MORE than fair. I did not have a lot of fees except fees I knew about like $10 every time I wanted cookies and milk brought to my room at midnight-which seemed to be every night. We did go through a few stormy nights at first and the cookies and milk did the trick. So they do not charge for the food - just the delivery of it. And they are FAST! One night I had pizza delivered. The Norwegian Epic has many departments and each and every department was working at optimal performance. Never once was anyone mean or failing to TRY to accommodate me. They bent over backwards to make people happy and I recognize they probably miss their own families also, so that your family can make great memories. Read Less

Norwegian Epic - Five Star on EVERY Level - Comprehensive Review Late 2015 I traveled the on the Norwegian Epic for Thanksgiving 2015 which was touring the Mediterranean Barcelona to Barcelona. Tenanyuaki was my favorite and the healthiest meal I had on the entire trip. INTERNET PACKAGE I picked 250 minutes but next time I will just pick the dining package if I get to pick a free feature. This is because I really wanted unlimited and that was $29 a day-BUT for my work--it is a must. As a seasoned cruiser, I persuaded my friend to go for a late break on the Epic. He hadn't cruised before and was initially reluctant to do anything but a land based holiday. My wife and I cruise a couple of times a year and I go on a couple of holidays on my own as well, but Steve had never cruised. There was a great offer for single travellers on the Epic in their studio cabins and we settled on the all-inclusive offer that they were running. What to add to other comments already posted? Well the first thing is that they really cater for the single traveller. Their single traveller lounge is a great idea and the entertainment guys try really hard to organise shows and meals for single travellers at their 6.00 pm get togethers. Most cruises have a pretty half hearted attempt at single traveller meetings that soon peter out, but over the whole week the single lounge was well attended and popular. I has scoped out the shore visits prior to the trip, with thanks to previous contributors on this forum, and found that some other single travellers joined Steve and me on our trips to Pompeii, Rome, Pisa and Monte Carlo from Cannes. In honesty, we saved a fortune by avoiding the ship's excursions. For example, Rome can be done by train for 12 euros for a day train/metro/bus travelcard rather than the $125 for the coach Rome on your own trip. The food on board was excellent with the buffet being ttyhe largest with most choice that I have seen on any ship. Embarkation was absolutely excellent with no queues at all! Even disembarkation was tolerable. The show-booking system was a bit of a pain and do turn up as a standby if the show you want is fully booked as they get a high percentage of no-shows. We did hit a bit of a storm on the Cannes to Palma leg and you did notice it at the front of the ship. So much so that our short stop planned for Palma was abandoned and we had a rearranged programme for that day. Another tip is if you have a longish time in Barcelona, then use the "Bag and drop" service when you leave the ship. They charge 15 euros per bag to take your bags to the airport (collect at Terminal 1) or 10 euros if you book in advance on the Internet. Gives you a bag-free day in Barcelona to sightsee. Another tip is the Airport coach is less than 6 euros into the centre of town. It is even cheaper to get a T10 ticket that gives 10 bus/metro trips and get the 46 bus into town from both terminals or 2 euros if you buy a single ticket. Beats the taxi charge! But back to the cruise. Even though the Epic is the 5th largest cruise liner at present, it never overwhelmed us. Steve decided that he would cruise again - probably with his lady next time and my wife was so impressed with the YouTube videos of the ship that she and I are returning for virtually the same cruise this New Year! Was really looking forward to my first ever Cruise. Embarked the NCL Epic at Barcelona. Within the first hour of going on board, I experienced 3 separate incidents of totally rudeness and unhelpfulness. Bar Staff - especially the Deck bar - ignorant to understanding what it meant by serving people in order of attendance, when challenged became rude and unhelpful. Reception staff again unhelpful, rude and just didn't seem to grasp the customer care aspect of anyone boarding first time or any time to be honest. When they managed to break my suitcase, it was a task to get them to even understand what happened, not to mention having to keep chasing up a replacement which when was given was a lower standard of the case that was damaged beyond repair. Received a call on the last day asking how my journey and first experience had been, only to be told by the "Customer Services person" that they did not understand the UK culture. The worst was the amount of people left to their own devices to try and debark the ship on the last day. Complete unorganised mess doesn't even cut how much of an issue it was to leave the ship, left in line with people pushing in, coming down the stairs with large suitcases trying to get through 1 single door, all arguing and being rude to each other about pushing in. No staff were at hand to co-ordinate nor communicate with the passengers - the cruise director stood at the exit door and just looked through you uninterested in what was clearly going on. All aspects of health and safety went out of the window when it came to everyone being allowed to just head to one exit, whilst there was a pointless tannoy saying the opposite ... what a complete shambles!! Wont be going on any future cruises with this line. Good luck to those that experienced a better service. Read Less

Back from 2 weeks on board The Ncl Epic. This was a trip of two halves, the first week as a Solo, and the 2nd week with friends. I've sailed with Carnival 13 times and R.C.I. 5 times, so I think i'm in a pretty good position to give a fair review of what to expect from a cruise. Firstly for anybody sailing alone, then having also sailed solo on both Carnival and R.C.I. solo, I was keen to try NCL, having read so many positive reviews. I cannot recommend NCL any higher, they are superb at looking after Solo's, making it so easy to meet, then organizing meals, and social activities,so you never feel alone, except when you want your own space. I had read so many reviews about Epic, and one of the things I picked up on from both reviews and from friends who had sailed on her was to make sure I got a pass for The Posh Beach Club...so straight to guest services, and spent the best $ 59 of all time. A great area to relax and sleep, read, but basically get away from all the packed in sunbathers on the General Lido area. Having been to all the ports apart from Cannes previously, I stayed on board most of the time, venturing out to Naples and Cannes for a wander, and was hugely impressed with Cannes (if only the lottery would come up). So back to my thoughts of The Epic.....firstly having read so many negative reviews, I have to say I think these people must have sailed on a different ship, and also on a different planet!!! The Freestyle experience is fantastic, walk to a restaurant, and your seated immedialtely, and if not then try another. We ate in all the free dining, and the food and service was superb, the only one I didn't like was O'sheans, but everybody else did so!! The Cirque show was as good as anything i've seen in Vegas, and the food was was good. Also went to Souls Satisfaction, and again first class. Ate in Teppanyaki, and was a great evening of entertainment and top food. Gambled in Casino, and sadly lost, but thats to be expected! So overall I , as were my friends , were so impressed with NCL , food, staff, entertainment win by a mile over any cruise previously, the only negative was the ship doesn't have the wow of an Oasis or Magic, but by far one of the most enjoyable cruise experiences, and I can't wait to sail again on NCL with or without friends!! Railway websites bus station numbers should be provided . People must have a choice . Restaurants closed too early at 10 pm and after the shows the ques were too long to get a proper meal. Shows were good , staff 100% charming and helpful all over the ship. They would all stop to talk and displaying the country flag is a brilliant idea. Charge at the gym was too much . Pool was mad busy but that was expected in August . Over all very happy with it and will recommend it . Should introduce an Indian restaurant as there many looking for Indian food and some vegetarians had trouble . Staff did three best to provide all they could . Will do Ncl cruise anytime . Read Less

NCL is the cruise line u luv to hate. had an inside cabin on the Star a few yrs ago and vowed I'd never cruise NCL again. when my daughter was turning 40 she wanted to celebrate on a cruise to western carribean. I agreed on the stipulation we took a balcony on the Star this time. the Star was the only ship out of new Orleans that went to the ports she wanted to visit. with a balcony, NCL was tolerable. (see previous review) This July I booked a 2 week Russian river cruise that from Vancouver to Moscow is a 18 hr. flight. Instead I decided the Epic would provide a place to dejetlag so I could enjoy russia I took a studio. (glowing review of cabin to follow) Boarding was smooth and I bought a wk's access to the spa ($149) sight unseen. best purchase of the cruise. I thought I would find such a big ship overwhelming, but since I had access to the spa I happily avoided the family fun at the pool and went the opposite way to the buffet which was sooooooo much better than the food on the Star. there was a salad bar, east indian cuisine, Asian food, roast beef, lamb, pork and various chicken and fish offerings all w/ vegtables, vegetarian dishes, Italian bar w/ a daily pasta and pizzas. dessert bar w/ creamy treats, pies, cakes and, of course the ice cream bar. Dining in the Manhattan Restaurant had dance entertainment (burn the floor) - very good. Taste offers dinner, but I prefer their breakfast. My only complaint is some days Taste opened at 6 am; others 7 or 8 am. I showed up at 8 one morning and they had stopped serving. Annoying! O''Sheehans offers a typical English/American breakfast. My father is British, but since I moved to Vancouver my taste has changed. I tried dinner in the Shanghai noodle Bar (I eat a lot of Asian food in Vancouver) and this is where the old NCL I hate showed, instead of serving Japanese seaweed salad they added cabbage and tomato w/ dressing -- an abomination! the mgr refused to let me have a plain seaweed salad. Udon was overcooked and tasteless. the green tea was ok. The Entertainment was very good. I recommend the Cirque d'Soliel ($29.98) and the motown trio imitating the supremes. Legends sucked - Sting, Rod Stewart and a female singer I didn't know. I loathe Stewart and Sting so I took a miss. there was a comedy act. Burn the Floor show was good, but I preferred their dinner dance. The highlight for me was the spa. Thermal pool w/ an attached Jacuzzi so frisky there's a wheel in the middle to grab. there is a cooler detached Jacuzzi. the pool has a fountain so u can enjoy hot water pummeling your shoulders. 2 dry saunas and a eucalyptus wet sauna - awesome. Floral wet sauna. Then, like Holland America - heated tile beds - yes! Finally, glass walled balcony where u can sprawl on a padded lawn chair and read a tacky novel. since my studio is an inside cabin, I used the spa as my balcony. it's never crowded and I was alone on shore days. I did a stretch class at 7, breakfast, and the spa at 8 - 8:30am. I had purchased a transfer to the airport so disembarkation was smooth. I flew Barcelona to Moscow and arrived relaxed thks to the epic. between my studio, the spa, improved dining and entertainment - great ship to relax - went on three short shore excursions. I requested a refund on two. I got 25% on each. NCL has a lot to improve on their shore excursions. I would cruise on the epic again. Read Less

I am not sure where to start, everything about the boat was a huge disappointment. The workers on the ship HATED their jobs. Only a handful would greet us back or smile. In the narrow hallways the employees would walk fast by the guest, having the guest yield every time. Bartenders were SO slow. An empty bar with 3 bar employees took us 7 minutes to get them to take our order. We tip 20% but this trip we gave up tipping due to the lack of service. The Fall- I fell on WET stairs at the "ADULT ONLY POOL." Everything about that sentence is ironic. The adult only pool is full of children who run thru the area and jump on chairs. The pool is the size of maybe 6 bathtubs, so about 10 people in it feels packed. The latter on both sides of the "pool" are broken. One morning I woke up early to set towels on chairs before breakfast since the pool is packed with kids, we thought we would go early. On my walk down 4 stairs I fell hard and felt my knee popped. Fellow tourists helped me up and I limped back to my room. I let staff know I fell and their was water on the ground while I was crying in pain but they didn't do a thing. On this day the ship woke everyone up early to share that the phone system, tv system, and navigation system were out of order for 24 hours. Nothing like being a hunk of junk sailing without navigation! I tried to call for medical help but couldn't. I went to the medical area and it was closed. I went back to the chairs to notice the PUDDLE of water I fell on was still sitting there. I mention to an employee again, that I fell and am hurt and they need to clean it up before an older person falls. I was told "Its a busy day today, we have to pass out towels then someone will clean that water" so it took 2-3 hours to clean up the water. I have photos of it all, submitted them to the "customer service" but they didn't care. They offered me $300 to cruise with them again. HA! I wouldn't get on their ship again if it was Noah's Arc. I iced my own knee while laying in bed that day and noticed BUGS, yes BUGS crawling in and out of the bed. I took video of it and only then did someone care when I mentioned I had videos of these bugs and my hurt knee. Suddenly, they opened up the medical center and did a report. They blamed me for my shoes I was wearing at the pool. I am sorry but Rainbow flip flops at a pool are acceptable. Concaved stairs with water sitting on them is not. The food in the buffet was gross. The service was terrible. In line waiting to get back on the ship we asked staff if they were giving out wet towels (It was 99 degrees and the day before they did that for us) and we were told "Yeah but not for 5 minutes" so we stood in the heat while the worker sat on his cooler of towels for 5 minutes. Nothing about the management on the ship was accommodating. No one wanted to be bothered for anything and asking for anything while on vacation was ridiculous. The wifi didn't work and I purchased it twice for 100 dollars. When I called to mention it didn't work they said "oh yeah it only works in certain areas of the ship and not in rooms" and when I asked where I would find that information they told me it is in writing. I asked where and the story changed since it wasn't in writing ANYWHERE. Only then did they agree to refund my wifi charges. When other guests joined the ship in Spain and they were being called to report to a safety meeting a staff member yelled at me telling me I have to attend the meeting. I explained I boarded in Rome, showed my key (which color proves that) but the employee yelled more that I must go to meeting. I had to walk away while they followed me. Found a hair in my lunch at the Irish Pub on board. We were upgraded to a new room when the bugs were discovered only to have a toilet of poop overflow onto the floor. The Epic is a terrible ship with a miserable staff. The customer service after the fact could care less about my experience. Many emails and calls I was offered $300 to cruise with them again. NO! $300 would cover maybe one of the overpriced excursions they offer. They are reviewing my medical files but told me "we don't have a fast turn around for that so it may take months to a year to hear from that department"...typical for Norwegian. Everyone from the corporate office in Miami to the staff on the ships have no concept of customer service. Read Less

Having never been on a cruise before as well as travelling on my own, i wasn't sure what to expect. However, in a one word summary, it was simply brilliant. The ship is huge, i could not believe how big it was from the outside but once you join or embark should i say! the number 15 in the lift suggests that it was bigger than i ever imagined. The food along with the freestyle dining culture was amazing. Of course you can eat at the numerous slightly more formal restaurants but even then you are fine in only a polo shirt and jeans. The entertainment was superb, it was both professional and diverse so there is and was something to suit everyone of any age. The drinks package worked out well for me. At first it seemed a bit expensive when i pre-booked but based on the number of drinks i had it definately saved me money! Each to their own and some might say i'm mad having gone all that way without doing any planned excursions but....i thought i would just see how it goes. To be honest you can spend a fortune so it all depends on how much you want to spend and how you want to spend your time but it was great just getting off the ship each day for a few hours and having a walk around, this worked out cheap and great for me and still a fantastic cultural experience. Many people I spoke to said they had booked too many excursions as some of the days were really long and exhausting so you need to find the right balance, days on the ship around the pools are great so don't think for one minute that you need to get off because you don't. The gym is fantastic, i use a well known gym that has great equipment and facilities but this gym is huge and has everything you could ever want, it more than equalled what i'm used to. I also used the spa, im no spa guru but it was sooooo nice! lots of treatments on offer and superb facilities. I had a full massage as it was on offer and it was great but i wasn't keen on the 15 or so minutes after when the Masseur tried to convince me that i needed to buy a few hundrered dollars worth of oils that i should rub in to my skin twice a day. Now as a man that isn't going to happen! i told her i will stick to my £2 Dove moisturising bath cream so i walked away financially in a healthy condition! I bought three boxes of sickness tablets, what a waste of money! you hardly know the ship is moving, I couldn't believe it. There were lots of kids about but if you want some quiet time then there is an 'adults only' pool area so you can escape the noise. However, it didn't bother me and it was nice to see lots of people of all ages enjoying themselves, plus there was always music on around the pool and i preferred that as opposed to complete silence! All of the staff were so friendly, seriously i couldn't fault any of them and that includes everyone from the cleaning staff to the entertainment staff. I didn't get any phone signal whilst the ship was sailing so if you want to phone ot txt home then do it when the ship is in port. Now if betting is your thing then the casino is massive but i'm happy to report that i didn't lose a single euro or dollar! If you have been on a cruise before then none of this will be new to you but if you haven't then you need to seriously go on one. Please note that all of my feedback relates to a particular ship / crusie line. Read Less

Let me start this review by saying Norwegian used to be my absolute favorite cruise line. Now however, they are simply just like the majority of others. They seem to be very focused on making as much money as they can, even if it means charging for things which used to come with the standard cruise experience. It reminds me a lot of what we see happening with the airlines. Services which used to come with the price of the cruise are now suddenly an additional charge or have to be specifically requested. I am not saying Norwegian is the only line operating with this business model, because they are not. I am just more disappointed in the behavior from them because I thought they held themselves to a higher standard. All of that said, I loved the solo cabins. They are just the right size for one person and super cute. It was like traveling in a futuristic space pod. The lounge was also a wonderful perk. The food was average altough my favorite place to eat was actually the pub. I usually really enjoy the dining room experience but the service was just not present. Shows not to miss would be: Howl at the Moon and the Cirque Dinner...so worth the money and the food was great. I hope the slide to pay more and get less will stop soon because I thinking cruising is the best way to travel. Read Less

I booked this ship as a solo cruiser in a solo cabin purely for the solo traveller facilities , it would be my birthday onboard and being a sociable person I thought the solo lounge and organised activities would be perfect for me . However it was not quite as organised as I had been led to believe. Firstly the cabin, I had an inside studio on deck 12 cabin 12524 I chose this because it was next to a storage cupboard and not too far from the lounge. The position was perfect. The cabin itself was a bit of a shock when I first went in (my 2 previous cruises had been balcony cabins) it is small and dominated by the double bed. Lights ....... the colour changing lighting was very annoying , (to keep it white press the sun picture on the key pad next to the bed) the telephone was lit up too and also annoying, this I learnt from the cabin steward could also be turned off by touching the light bulb symbol . Once the lights were turned off it was still not totally dark there were 2 blue circular light buttons (for the reading light) above the bed that kept me awake !!! TIP I only realised on day 6 that if you take your card out of the slot by the door these will go off too but remember where you have put your card and have a torch handy because if you need the toilet the lights will be off. Oh the toilet light was also annoying (when your card was in the slot) in that it was on a timer and it didnt give you very long!!!!!!!!!! be quick otherwise (as a lady) you need to stand up and wave at the sensor also the toilet is tiny and I am only 5ft 3 if you were tall it would be a squeeze ,no sink either that is behind a sliding door next to the bed Storage................. the sliding cupboard doors also annoying , the wardrobe didnt have a long enough drop for maxi dresses so all of my dresses including my evening dress were bunched up at the bottom , luckily I had none that would crease but some ladies had to keep their dresses in their suit case which luckily all should fit under the bed . There are no drawers so I had to keep underwear in bags on a shelf . not enough storage shelving for jewellery either, TIP the little stool under the TV the lid comes off and I put handbags in there. Solo Lounge............ this is a great idea , on the first night the get together was I think 6pm or 6.30 the solo host told us about the lounge and the 2 boards where activities would be advertised etc she then arranged for us to eat together . BIG ISSUE for the solo host to book anything for us she wanted us to add our names to the list along with our cabin numbers , at the time I didnt worry about it but after that first time I and others thought it wasnt a good idea and as it happened 2 ladies ended up being stalked by 2 men over the week. After the first days solo meet up I and many others didnt go again as it was at 5pm and way too early so what we did was mostly organise our own meet ups and activities by posting our own list on the whiteboard for others to add their names too but no cabin numbers. It did seem that the solo host would post ideas of activities e.g in entertainment venues but she would not actually be there to meet you or stay with you very few were actually hosted. Lounge facilities.............. a good coffee machine free to use 24 hours a day BIG TIP!!!!!!!!!!!!! bring your own tea bags if you like English breakfast tea , because if with 2 bags it was just water !!!! not really hot enough to brew properly. Also a Chilled water dispenser all day and an orange juice just in the morning for breakfast. Cookies available all day and a small selection of items for breakfast, cereal, pastries, yoghurt. I did take breakfast back to my cabin and I will admit on a few days when it was really early 5-6am I did go to the lounge in my pyjamas and dressing gown :) Ship itself....... this I didnt like it was too dark inside with low ceilings and not enough windows to actually see the sea , not enough lifts either luckily I was fit enough to use stairs but it could be a problem for some people. Sun loungers......... Deck 18 quiet sun deck has wonderful padded loungers, double beds and chairs but NO SHADE , TIP just outside the garden cafe in the open air seating is a bit of a hidden lift (left hand side) it goes up to deck 18 , I only found this on day 6 lol Shows............They only had 2 in the main theatre so very disappointing I saw Legends and Burn the floor , Legends had Rod Stewart (look alike) who was excellent but Sting and Gloria Estafan not as good, Burn the floor was dancing and the dancers were very good but it would have been equally good at half the time . Ive been entertained on other cruise lines much more with a more varied itinerary of shows. Food................ We ate in Manhattan room mostly and 6.30-8.30 they had live music and you could get up to dance this was great if you were close to the dance floor. As a person who chooses to eat mostly vegetarian foods the choice was disappointing so I did end up eating a few chicken dishes, Food was hot and tasty but when I asked for extra salad or vegetables I didnt always get these . Chinese restaurant is now free , we ate there twice its a limited menu very limited and the first time the food was cold , second time it was much better. Taste restaurant the black chairs were uncomfortable for my back TIP ask for the more upright padded chairs . Very disappointed that the sit down restaurants were not always open for lunch I had to go to the buffet on my birthday and drink champagne out of plastic glasses!!!!!!!! Drinks........... very expensive and it took a long time to get served. Staff................. some staff very unhelpful others quite rude which was a shame because most were ok . My cabin steward was amazing , he decorated my cabin for my birthday and left me a cup cake . Activities................I didnt do much on board because I had a lot of excursions . Water slide the one with the rubber rings was excellent the others I didnt like . Ice bar was great fun TIP dress for the cold if you want to enjoy it fully . My Birthday .......thank you to the solo host for providing some sparkling wine and thank you to the restaurant for the cake and thank you to the new friends I made from the solo lounge . Over all ............... I enjoyed the cruise but mainly because of the people I met and holidayed with . Epic as a ship I didnt like. Ive cruised twice with NCL now and I dont think its for me , not my first choice ........... unless the price was too good to miss . Read Less

This was my first cruise as a solo traveller. I booked late in the day so none of the single traveller studios were available . I , like a number of other solo travellers who also could not get into the studios paid the single traveller premium for inside staterooms. However I was told categorically that even though I was a single traveller I would not be allowed access to the single traveller lounge because that was only available to those who had booked the single traveller studios. The ship run a solo traveller program which arranged all the meetings within the solo traveller lounge the very place that those of us who had inside state rooms were told we could not go ! Many of those who booked the studios were not strictly solo travellers they were individuals who had travelled with friends but wanted to have their own cabin and they weren't necessarily interested in meeting up with other solo travellers as they had come with friends. Therefore there were many individuals in the studios who were not interested in using the lounge and a number of others who were genuine solo travellers who would have welcomed the use of the lounge to mix with other solo travellers but were told we couldn't go in . The solo traveller meetings were arranged for 5 PM to fit in with the staff working hours . However most days people were onshore and hadn't returned from tours or had only just returned to the ship and hadn't had time to refresh themselves before the meetings. Consequently the turnout for these meetings was very low and on one occasion that I managed to get access to the lounge ( yes I did sneak in twice) there were only three people there . The single traveller ordinator also arranged dinners to allow for the travellers to eat together however again these were arranged every night at 6 PM which was far too early to eat dinner . Shore excursions often did not return to the ship before 6 o'clock or only arrived back shortly before dinner not allowing anyone time to have a shower and get changed and ready for the evening . After the first night nobody was interested in eating at 6 PM and therefore these dinners did not take place . Whilst I enjoyed the shore excursions I didn't actually get to meet any of the solo travellers save for a short period of time on two evenings when somebody had let me into the lounge but it meant that I ended up eating on my own every evening and because I am a woman I felt uneasy about spending an evening sitting at a bar or in the lounge or nightclub on my own. I ended up spending from 7:30 PM every evening in my cabin . After the first two evenings it was impossible to book for any of the shows as they had sold out and therefore I didn't even get to see the variety of shows that were a available. As I was alone I chose to eat in the buffet cafe /restaurant the food there became monotonous and many evenings was barely lukewarm and sometimes cold . Sadly my overall experience of the cruise was extremely disappointing I got to see the destinations I wanted to visit but whilst on the ship I felt excluded because I was a solo traveller. I think Norwegian need to review the structure of their solo traveller programme and whilst I have completed the online survey that was sent to me and set out my observations my experience is that companies by and large aren't interested in criticism and do little to change anything. I would not take another NCL cruise as a solo traveller and would urge others to think seriously before committing to booking a cruise , shop around to see what other companies provide if you are intending on travelling alone. Having read reviews on NCL Cruises I decided to bite the bullet and book a holiday with Norwegian Epic. The main attraction for me was that it was my first Cruise and I was traveling alone. I checked out the website and found that this particular Ship had Solo Staterooms and a Singles' lounge. The price was so good and the reviews made me feel confident that this was the one for me. All the bookings and the information on tickets etc were online. I did however book originally through an agent. I finally flew to Barcelona and had a transfer to the Ship. Once at the Dock, everything was efficiently sorted out and in no time I was on the Ship. I have to use a crutch to walk with due to my disabilities problem. I was looked after in many ways on the ship and any time when I went on any excursions. The Service on board was very good and the Solo cabin was more roomy than it looked on the website. Plenty of storage and comfortable bed. The Steward was very efficient and nothing was too much trouble. He was friendly and worked hard but always had a smile and a greeting whenever he saw me in the corridor. The food on the Ship in the main restaurants was very good and presented well. The staff on the ship always made sure that everything went smoothly and everything was kept clean and tidy. There were various restaurants where for a charge did something different. The Moderno Restaurant also Brazilian was very good. Especially if you enjoy your meat. Service second to none. The Buffet had plenty of choice and iced tea, water and tea and coffee were free at the Buffet area. So was ice cream. The pub also served meals 24 hours free of charge. The Theatre had two main shows. The 'Burn the Floor' show was excellent and it was amazing how good the dancers and singers were. It was something quite original and not the day to day type of musical. The other show was three different acts impersonating three different people. On my trip it was Sting, Gloria Estaphan and Rod Stewart. Not perfect but most of the audience enjoyed it. There are various other forms of entertainment and plenty of different lounges. Singing and dancing outside on the pool deck and an outside Cinema with very up to date Films. If you have children it was great as there were special entertainment areas for them. There were a number of various excursions on each day of various prices and levels of walking etc. It was a perfect way of having a holiday alone and if you are willing to join in with others, you soon make some friends. I think because it is not as formal as some other Ships people are more friendly and are ready to enjoy their holiday. The Ship gave you a newsletter every day so you can see what is happening in different parts of the ship. The Captain spoke over a loud speaker and also kept us up to date on where we were etc. The television gives you up to date information on what you have spent on board (in Dollars). It also has information on all the excursions so you can work out what is best for you. There are different information desks so you can always be sure to speak to someone if you have a problem or need advice on anything. When it came to the end of the cruise disembarkation was very efficiently handled and labels for your Suitcases were given the day before leaving the ship. A wonderful holiday. I am sure that I will go again in the next year or so. Read Less

I was a solo traveller and was very impressed by the organisation, friendliness and efficiency of the NCL staff. From embarkation to the final day, the fun, food and freedom were excellent throughout. The dining rooms served delicious courses and the staff were attentive but not intrusive. The wine choices were extensive, something for everyone. We did not have to wait for a table. As a single, I met many people from all over the globe in the solo lounge. We went to dinner together and everyone felt comfortable in such convivial company. The shows were excellent especially the dancers. The drinks package was a little strange. I could have any amount of alcohol I wanted including delicious cocktails. However I had to pay over $5.00 for a bottle of water in my cabin. I drank much more water than alcohol so had a drinks bill !! Crazy and not really fair!! WELL DONE NCL FOR A SUPER HOLIDAY. I HOPE TO SAIL WITH YOU AGAIN Read Less

My expectations wee high, but they were exceeded.my first fear was that the cabin would be uninviting but the fitted wardrobe/sink together with the shower incorporated into your solo studio stateroom have the effect of making it appear larger. I put the television on channel 22 and muted the sound to give the view from the bridge which was my proxy porthole. The studio lounge coffee and drinks were good and I felt th cruise coordinator did a good job at bringing inning the diverse nationalities together. The food was very good I was impressed by the fact that the included restaurants had a good menu which changed daily and were not buffets.also I liked the breakfast served to my table "eggs benedict". The shuttle buses to PLma & Marseille were a good service. Read Less
