I chose this specific time/ship because of the Solo cabins that were so highly rated. This was actually a 7 day cruise to Great Stirrup Cay, Ocho Rios, Georgetown, and Cozumel. This was my 1st time sailing with NCL and it will be my last. There was a serious lack of communication, disembarkation for excursions, and at the end of the cruise were a nightmare and not well organized, over all cleanliness was an issue, and energy level of the staff was seriously lacking. The solo room and spa were the best part of the cruise ship itself. Excursions were over booked and for the money you paid, didn't get the value. Food was average at best (I did not go to the pay restaurants), only to the complimentary options. Entertainment was awesome (Burn the Floor show and 2 comedy shows). I love to sail, but I will not be considering NCL in the future. Read Less

After reading all the bad reviews of the Epic's February and March cruises, I was very apprehensive about my upcoming April 6 cruise. My worries were for naught. The cruise from Embarkation to Debarkation was very satisfying. Although the ship is huge, it didn't feel any more crowded than the smaller boats I've been on. Elevator wait times were not bad except when shows were finished. The wait for drinks at the bar wasn't bad, no more than 3-4 minutes at times. The specialty restaurants were excellent. The service was impeccable. Not only in the specialty restaurants but also in the free dining rooms. The food at Cagney's was very good, I had the lamb chops. The food and performance of the cook at Tepanyaki was excellent. The food at La Cucina was outstanding. There wasn't a dessert offering at Teppanyaki, I always ordered two appetizers since there was no additional charge. The food at the two free dining rooms was o.k., but the service was excellent. The entertainment was great. Broadway or West End equivalent. Pricilla Queen of the Dessert was not for kids.. It was up there with The Book of Mormon. Burn the Floor was fabulous and thats coming from one who i not crazy about dancing shows. I skipped the ports since I've been to them all before. Not a fan of most of the overpriced activities. Would go again on the Epic. Read Less

first Norwegian cruise ! choose the Epic for the studio rooms for solo travelers - the room is perfect for one person and the use of the studio lounge was nice = met a lot of nice people there as well as on the ship - the shows were great [as usual ] - my only complaint was that the food I ate at several restaurants was cold and had to be returned - this was at the Taste, Sheehans Pub & grill and the worst was at Stirrup Cays buffet - the hot dogs, and hamburgs were cold as well as the corn on the cob [also tough and not sweet ] - found the pools to be small for such a large ship !! also the food at Shanghais was also cold & sent back - I've been on 3 different cruise lines on 5 cruises and this was my first encounter with being served cold food - as I said I like the solo room and the price !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I can’t ever see myself or our group doing NCL again. Poor service many errors and overall poor customer service. Billing issues on my account before even leaving port. 2 drinks $74 bill. Had drink package. Lack of bar service. Only cruise out of 27 or so I had to visit the guest service desk 4 times. I am really easy going person. Food in the taste did not come out together from 1st person getting apps to last person was 10 minutes and the meal was 15. The pub should be a place to show up and have some drinks but you must check in to get table and wait. Freestyle Cruising has missed the Mark. You much plan all your items like shoes and tenders to shore. Don’t try to do what you want or when you want to do it. I will not say it ruined the cruise because our group still make the best of it. Looks elsewhere if you have cruised other cruise lines. Read Less

We just got off a 10 day cruise on the Epic. Just thought I'd share a few things with the group..... We booked this cruise because of the ship (we had been on the Epic previously and love her!) and the length of the cruise......we had been to all the ports a couple times so we figured we'd get off if we felt like it, or not, so we felt no pressure to run around all over the place if we chose to just stay on the ship. I enjoyed that feeling of relaxation! Our cruise stopped at the usual suspects.....Jamaica, Grand Caymen, Belize, Cozumel, Costa Maya......we were supposed to stop at the NCL private Island (which we've been to before) but couldn't get in due to rough waters.....so we had an extra sea day which we enjoyed. Our favorite port was by far Costa Maya....they have an area for only cruise ships that was really done nicely, with shops, a pool, restaurants and bars, alot of activities and things to do and see. It was great! They had added so much since we had seen it a few years ago! Had a great time there! The best snorkeling I've ever experienced is in Cozumel.....we were told about a place called Money Beach our first trip there and have gone there every time since! It's a short cab ride from the pier and well worth it! Nice restaurant and bar, lounge chairs.....rent snorkeling gear for about $12 for the day and you're all set. Clearest water and the most fish I've ever seen!! Don't even get off the ship in Grand Caymen unless you just want to go to a beach or shop. Nothing much there IMO. Same goes for Jamaica, we got off to go to Margaritaville where we had some fun years ago, but it's really changed. Wouldn't go again, very run down, no fun, terrible service!! We're not fans of Belize either, but this time it was nice because they built a private Island which was nice, so we enjoyed it this time. Nice beach, pool with swim-up bar, shops, etc.......no comparison to Costa Maya but along the same lines. Now for the ship...... We are in the minority in that we never spend extra money to upgrade our cabin because it's just not worth it to us.....we are never in it but to shower, change and sleep!! So we keep our inside. We like to be up on the deck for breakfast, the pool, etc., we aren't they type to sit in our room by ourselves and look out at the ocean from our balcony, we like to be among the people! So my critic is for the inside cabin..... Don't listen to all the nay-sayers who complain about the set-up of the bath area.....it's no big deal! Yes, the shower, sink and toilet are all separated, but there's a curtain you can pull if you need to which only leaves the sink outside of it, but it worked fine for us. The toilet and shower also of course have their own doors, so who cares?! The room was probably the most spacious on any of the ships, the closet and drawer space was absolutely the best, and there is plenty of cabinet space for toiletries above the sink. If you can get by the unusual bath set-up, it's the best laid out room with the best closet and drawer space for everything we've had, and we've been on many NCL ships!! The food in the main dining rooms has come a long way from years ago. We were extremely impressed with everything we ordered in Taste and Manhattan Room. The buffet is average.....breakfast is breakfast and they had a good variety every morning, it's set up well in that there are quite a few "omelette stations" and they had eggs benedict every day so I was happy! Their breads are amazing, their bakery on all the NCL ships IMO is second to none. Lunch was ok, nothing special I will say for the lunch buffet but they have great chicken salad and they had a taco bar almost every day so that was cool! We ate in Le Bistro and Moderno this time with our two platinum free specialty dinners. Le Bistro wasn't as good as other ships IMO but Moderno was amazing! They have a fantastic soup/salad bar to die for!! My favorite part of the whole meal was the soup (Fiejoada)......unbelievable!! I couldn't wait to get back to that restaurant just for that. Make sure you try it!! Entertainment....the two main shows were not up to par with other ships IMO....but worth seeing......Burn the Floor and Priscilla Queen of the Desert. Both interesting but mediocre compared to some other newer ships.....we saw Rock of Ages and Oh What a Night and Blue Man Group on other cruises. Rock of Ages is far and away my favorite, I think it's still on the Breakaway. We love Howl at the Moon so we stopped in there every night they played. The comedian Rodney L. (forget his last name, sorry) was the best I've ever seen, don't miss him!! What else......the casino......not my favorite but large and spread out, not the best selection of slots IMO and way too smokey and smelly when you got near the smoking section. Some of the games I liked were in smoking so I did have to venture in there sometimes but it was horrible!!! All in all, the Epic is one of our favorite NCL ships......we aren't fans of the pool area on the Breakaway class ships.....the Epic has a large area of outdoor tables so you can have breakfast and lunch while at the pool without having to sit in that stupid corridor or inside like on those others. That's a big deal to us, so I would choose the Epic, the Dawn, and others over that Breakaway class all day long!! Read Less

Embarkation was a nightmare. Not a good way to start the cruise. Waited in line for an hour and a half to board in the heat. Cabin - was just ok. At least I had closet doors unlike a lot of other solo guests. The carpet was filthy and stained. The 2 plugs are in wacky locations. My power strip did not fit the space they were in. I would have to unplug one thing to charge another or to use something. Annoying. The toilet kept stopping up and so did the sink. The lighting was awful in the solo cabin I had on Deck 11.The hallway was extremely narrow, smelled terrible and there was always at least 3 cleaning carts parked in them. Along with the stewards who were pretty noisy. My steward did a good job but he was annoying. He was constantly calling my cabin...even when the do not disturb sign was placed. I had the do not disturb sign out and he entered my cabin anyway. He said I called and you didn't answer. ????? One of the entrance doors to the solo area never worked with the key card. This was inconvenient and it was never fixed. There was something going on with the ventilation on the ship. So many people were coughing and hacking and complaining. I was one of them and I among others still have it. This made sleeping impossible...so did my noisy neighbor in the adjoining cabin and the stewards in the hall that were outside my door constantly. Food- I was not impressed with the food. My last cruise was on the Escape and I loved the food. The service in the Manhattan Room was very slow. The singer in the Manhattan Room was so loud on the last night of the cruise... it was borderline obnoxious. O'Sheehans is usually one of my favorite places. Our waiter "forgot" he was waiting on us one day midway through our meal. When we asked for service he said did you check in up front? Shows - I loved the cirque show...the food was not impressive. I missed Priscilla Queen of the Desert because I was miserable from coughing; and was unaware how limited the shows were. Did not get to see it. Pool area- actually liked the outdoor food they offered and usually the music. The bartenders were not very friendly and seats were scarce. H20 - Stairs to get to the bar? Not very well thought out.We spent most of our time there on the Escape. None was spent there on the Epic. My friend is disabled and that made it inaccessible. Solo lounge - was relatively small and needed a better variety of snacks other than cookies. The bartender during bar hours was a plus and he was very nice. Elevators - Need one mid ship. I did not enjoy going through the smokey casino to get to the other end of the ship. Tinders - Yikes Not fun.One of them actually caught on fire. We had to tinder into another side of Grand Cayman which made us have to taxi to the port we were supposed to be at. This cost us extra money and time was lost that could have been spent in the port. Nothing back from NCL for this inconvenience. Disembarkation - was the best experience. Easy and seamless. I could not wait to get off of the ship. I was counting down the days...that is pretty sad. Ports - other than Tinder ports the process went smoothly to visit the ports. The ports were nice and we had good weather for the most part. The company I shared on this cruise was nice. The solo coordinator Veronica was wonderful. I will not go on the Epic again. I had 3 future booked cruises that happened to be on the Epic. They are canceled. Perhaps the Escape spoiled me - The crew was nicer, the bartenders were nicer. The ship and my room were immaculate and the food was exceptional. This experience will not keep me from cruising with NCL ...I just won't cruise on this ship anymore. Read Less

Chose this cruise based on availability of Studio Cabins. Cabin was all I needed and expected. NCL pickup at airport was sub standard as the NCL rep sat hiding near back wall with sign face down on ground talking to what appeared to be friends of hers. Luckily the Carnival rep helped me out. NCL support outside at Port Canaveral terminal was terrible for embarkation as well especially for first timers. Passengers were dropped off outside terminal and left to try and figure out what to do and organize themselves with no NCL reps to support at all. Once inside the terminal NCL did a better job of organizing but it was still hours over and above the two hours outside the terminal. Once inside the ship things were well organized. Meals in restaurants were good with great service. Entertainment was hit and miss. Burn the floor, the instrumental group in the Manhatten lounge, and Paulo the solo guitarist/vocalist being top shelf in my opinion. Cruise next was a joke. Everywhere you go you are bombarded by cruise next promotions but to buy it you have to wait hours in line while the reps spend over 45 minutes explaining the program to others ahead of you. All I wanted to do was buy it but never made it to the front of the line so left the cruise without buying even tho I planned to buy even before boarding. Asked guest services, excursions desk for help but they simply send you back to cruise next desk where, if you complain, the over 6 foot tall german woman says, "ya, I vill be here till 9:30, come back lata". Asked for the cruise next manager as well who is never available either. As for deck chairs, NCL fails here as well. On sea days, by 8am all chairs are covered by towels by people reserving them for the afternoon. No deck chairs to sit on even tho most were unoccupied by anything but towels and NCL refuses to enforce the 1 hour policy. Spent hours in guest services line asking for the policy to be enforced to no avail. Deck crew told me they wont remove towels as it upsets those passengers. Only real reason for me to consider NCL again was the better pricing for solo travel but not sure it will be enough next time. Read Less

As a new single (widowed), I was very happy to book this NCL cruise, after finding out about the studio (no single supplement) concept that NCL has pioneered. Lucky for me, due to the hurricanes in the area, a lot of folks had canceled their reservations since the cruise had shifted from an Eastern Caribbean to a Western itinerary. That allowed me to secure a balcony cabin for just a little more that the studio. The ship (first time on Epic), seemed to be in very good shape. And the staff did an excellent job of taking care of the passengers. I've been on a number of more expensive cruises, and was impressed with everyone on the NCL Epic staff with how they performed their duties. They were right up there with the cruise lines that charge 2 to 3 times as much. Not to say that the upscale lines are lacking in any area. It's just that the crew of the NCL Epic were just as good. I signed up for the Cruise Next program, so needless to say, I'll be back. Thank you. Read Less

I am a solo traveler. I do not like paying double for my room. Epic offered many solo cabins at "solo" rates. I live close to Port Canaveral so I like to sail from this port. I found the staff very pleasant and friendly. My cabin was just right for just me. My cabin attendant was very helpful and kept my room in tip-top shape. The entertainment was not the quality of other larger ships but it was creative and kept my attention. I very much enjoyed the shows. The activities involving the staff were usually very funny with high energy. I did not go on any shore excursions. However, I did get off at Stirrup Cay. Was disappointed that I could not find an empty chair in the shade (and only found 2 in the sun). Also did not like that they were so close together (had to sit on the end and scooch up to the back). So I just sat at a picnic table in the shade, took a dip in the water (great beach), ate lunch and went back to the ship. The tenders were big, well maintained and quick to get us back and forth. While onboard, I booked the same cruise for next year. Read Less

I used the solo lounge and enjoyed meeting other solo travelers for drinks and meals. There were sign up activities that were great fun. Don't miss the white hot dance party, it was a blast! The bathroom setup is odd but you get used to it. I really can't say anything bad about my adventure on Epic, it was amazing and I can not wait to sail her again. My friends were already booked on this cruise and I was on a tight budget. I was so happy they had single occupancy rate available and was able to get an inside cabin. The ship is big and steady with 19 decks. Elevator starts at deck 5, not sure what is on decks 1-4. I was in the front of the ship which was easy access to Epic Theater, Headliners, Howling with the Moon, Bliss night club and O'Sheehans sports bar all on deck 6. The atrium on Deck 5 showed movies on the big screen and also night time entertainment. My favorite spot was on deck 15 with all day and night buffet. Would have breakfast of made to order omelets, bacon, sausage, french toast, pancakes and fruit. Beverages and bar were easily accessible as well as ice cream machines. Highly recommend getting the premium beverage package, especially for 7 night cruise. You are able to drink non stop. Could have breakfast, lunch and dinner and late night snacks consisting of pizza and sweets. Music was good with live bands and deejays and fun contests, like best legs for men and biceps for women. If you like the more formal restaurants like Taste and Manhattan and enjoy the Casino, I recommend you get a cabin towards the rear. Shows were good, Burn the Floor dancing with the stars type, Priscilla queen of the desert was a drag queen show. Comedy with 3 comedians which were really funny. Karaoke was at Bliss and lip sync battle in the Atrium. There was always something to do. Great itinerary for fun all day from fitness to spas to bingo to movies to great entertainment. I loved the diversity on the ship. Blacks and whites all dancing and having fun, everyone just being themselves. Young and old. Most beautiful scene were husband with wife in wheelchair. He picked her out of the chair and started dancing with her on the dance floor. You could feel the love. Missed the formal dinner with captain and having that personal service you get on specific time cruises. Had I been at the back of the ship I probably would have spent more time at the more formal restaurants. I was pleased with the buffet, sport bar and Asian restaurant. Went to Manhattan on the last night and enjoyed a huge piece of prime rib. They also have live music while you eat. Many birthday and anniversary celebrations with song and cake. You can order cake for free at time of booking. Exit from ship was smooth and fast. Was off in less than 20 minutes. Would definitely recommend this ship for those who are free spirited and want to set their own schedule. Ports of call were private island in Bahamas, Grand Cayman, Ocho Rios and Cozumel. Plenty to do including horse back riding and snorkeling. Shopping for all price ranges on the 7th floor. Near champagne and sushi bars. Also had ice bar and bowling for a price. Good time had by me and my friends would definitely go on this ship again. Even though I had an inside cabin it was spacious with shower with hand held shower head. Flat screen with latest movies and tv shows and news. Huge pillow top king size bed. Never felt closed in. Stewarts were nice and cleaned room twice a day with towel animals on your bed. Tip: remember to put your key in slot as soon as you come in door to turn on your lights. Read Less

This was my third time cruising with NCL and the first time on NCL EPIC and everything was great as expected!! I would suggest doing this as they fill up fast once your onboard the ship's The entertainment on board was very good as well although I only went to the Cirque dreams and dinner show, which I would recommend reserving a spot ahead of time also, and a few of the comedy shows they were very good and funny. I'm not really into the theatre shows they offered on the EPIC, although I heard from other cruisers that they were very good shows, just not my thing. The various bands they had playing throughout the ship were top notch musicians! This was only our third cruse, the first two being on RCL. We are 58 & 62 yers old. Our extended family booked Epic for a small reunion during March 2017. Since it was the dreaded spring break window, we were a little concerned with having the ship over run with teens & kids, but this was rarely an issue. There were not many college kids, the one's that were there were of the more mature variety than a typical Carnival party boat, and the less mature one's were friendly and humorous anyway. For kids: one cousin & spouse had their 7-8 year old. She had a blast in the special kids zone. It was reported to be well supervised and kept her happy while mom & dad could go on excursions & do cocktails & dancing until the kid zone let out at 9 PM. A lot of people must have taken advantage of this option, because except for the pool the ship was not overrun with kids. My wife & I never went in the main pools. We booked the Thermal Spa for the week. The price wasn't bad online pre-cruise. The spa is awesome. Never overcrowded, spotless and comfortable and nice 18+ oasis. NCL seems to have a larger variety of smaller hangouts than the two large RCL ships we've been on (Adventure & Quantum) You can't go anywhere without tripping over a bar / lounge, and the variety & quality are good. O'Sheenhans was hopping on St Patrick's Day and the night before. Shows: The Beatles imitators were great! Good musicians in their own right. Burn the floor is very good and has different themes each night. We didn't see Pricilla, we live in NY, we can see it in real life :) One thing: the tables could use more bussing (pick up used items & wipe down the table) This was a full ship and they weren't always prepared for the volume of people using the lounges. The staff is very friendly. We never encountered a negative person. Some confided in us that Epic was one of their favorite ships to work on. The cabins are as advertised, small, weird bathroom setup in our bargain interior room. But we had enough storage space. Next time we go back to balconies unless the interior is a really good deal. We did get to see the Solo Studios. They are really nice small rooms! Our two solo travelers with us were very satisfied. Tendering is by reservation. That kind of stinks, because if we want to get up at O God AM and wait on line to get off early we should be able to, we shouldn't have to book a tender two days in advance. I had to go complain to get on an earlier boat & not miss a shoreexcursioneer.com trip we booked. Bottom line: fun ship, lost of smaller spaces to hang out, no Spring Break drama, very good staff. They could have kept up with table bussing and more wait staff a little better, but everyone was industrious & friendly. Would recommend it for families, older couples and mature singles. Read Less

The language barriers were minimal. The ship was clean. Really unable to rate shore excursion - as we did out own thing which turned out well. The GYM and entertainment were all top notch. Just an all round atmosphere of a good time. I didn't speak with other disgruntled patrons and that too is always positive, as they can set the tune for how you feel. Entertainment still the same old stuff it's about time they had something new other then Priscilla and Burn the Floor as it's getting tired and boring now. Drinks are also a problem with not enough servers. Ports were fair Cozumel great for Shopping Cayman Islands crazy with 7 ships in. This was my 17th NCL cruise and my 3rd on The Epic. I am NCL Platinum I did a B2B from Port Canaveral (Western and Eastern Carib) Everything was great as always. The food everywhere was awesome. I ate at both MDR's, La Cucina, Moderno, O'Sheehan's, Tepanyaki (twice) The Garden Cafe and even had room service a couple of times. ALL GOOD !!!!!!!! The service was impeccable and my Cabin Steward in particular was totally awesome! And speaking of Cabin Steward's I stayed in one of the studio cabins which I just loved as well as The Studio Lounge. I love that we have our own exclusive and private area. Entertainment was excellent and I especially enjoyed Priscilla. The performance I went to was given a long standing ovation to give you an idea as to how good it was. The Epic Casino is one of NCL's largest and it, too, was great and has very friendly and personable dealers, servers and hosts. Lots of FUN! Since this was a 2-week cruise, I was packed accordingly (probably too much) (I like to shop too btw) and I had 2 large bags at the weight limit. So, I put the bags out by midnight and kept a carry-on. Well it was so nice as we met at Cagney's for this excursion and the shore excursion team escorted us, very quickly, thru customs. Now what I did was summon a Porter ? (at the airline we call them Sky Caps) and he took my bags for me all the way thru and loaded them on for me on the tour bus, I didn't have to touch them until I got to the airport. Was great! To give you an idea on how much I like The Epic (and NCL) I have already booked myself on the April 1 crossing to Barcelona with a B2B to The Canary Islands :) Read Less

First off, I may not be as experienced as some of the other reviewers and I wouldn't consider myself high maintenance. I personally believe each cruise line has positives and negatives and that you can have a good time based on your needs on pretty much anyone but one may be more suiting depending on your personality, party size and history. I am a 37 year old single male who loves to travel. My first cruise was in 2011 and this was my forth. All have been in the Caribbean and 7 days. I have sailed on the Carnival Glory, Carnival Victory, Royal Caribbean Adventure of the Seas, and The Norwegian Epic. I have sailed from Miami, San Juan, and Port Canaveral. Now onto my review. My cruise sailed out of Port Great Stirrup Cay Bahamas, Ocho Rios Jamaica, Grand Cayman, and Cozumel. Port Canaveral is probably the busiest port in the US. There were about 6 different ships that boarded the day we left. Despite the size, I found embarkation to be efficient and I had no issues. In fact, my luggage was even delivered to my room prior to 5pm which was a first in my experience. I had an inside cabin which many may complain about the design. Mainly the toilet being separate from the shower and the sink being separate from both. For me being a solo traveler, It was different but a non issue. Service to the cabins was done well, however this was the first time I was not introduced to the cabin steward. I commend the staff on the ship, great attitude, personality, and service. Especially due to the large capacity of customers which can only lead to even more complaints justifiable and non justifiable. The ship had great activities, a little bit of something for everyone. I enjoyed using the gym, having multiple free and specialty options for dinner, and even a separate "barbershop" for mens grooming services. The cirque dinner theatre show was wonderful and although it had a fee of $47 for premium seating, it was worth it. The clubs, pool parties, bowling, sports bar, howl at the moon and shows like burn the floor, comedy, and a magician provided a nice variety along with the typical art auction and games that you would find on most ships. The all white deck party was a highlight. Although the ship is huge, I chose to use the steps so that I wouldn't have to wait for elevators. Be aware that due to the size of the ship, many activities require reservations. Some can be made online prior to arrival, at the box office, or even on the room tv. I found the food to be good but not great. I didn't dine at the specialty restaurants because there were adequate other options and I was solo and often wanted to eat alone. This ship has solo cabins for others like me that want an affordable trip without needing to have a cabin mate. They also have optional solo guest gatherings in the solo lounge daily. If you like to be active, are mobile, youthful and energetic, I think the Epic could be a good time. Last but not least, the Free at Sea promotion put this cruise over the top for me. I basically only paid gratuities and had a drink package a.k.a. open bar for an entire week. Incredible savings for even a social drinker. I found that I was a little more social than usual thanks to the drink package. Some travelers that prefer smaller ships with more intimate service may not enjoy this . The haven cabins provide a more luxurious experience for those if they care to try it. But for my demographic and preferences, I will definitely do NCL again. I'm already booked for next December. I should have taken a cue from the long lines we stood in to even get checked in and onto the ship. My 2 daughters and I had a mini balcony suite (with emphasis on mini). It was tiny. I cannot imagine what the interior staterooms were like. Whomever designed those rooms should be stripped of whatever title they hold. The bathroom is right in the room with only a smoked glass rounded-shaped slider to put into place to use the toilet and another one to use the shower. They are about the size of the facilities in an RV. There is absolutely no privacy since you can certainly see (and hear) the person inside through the glass and see when they stand, sit or whatever. Ours had a curtain, but other people told me they did not even have that. There is barely room to walk in the cabin....tiny, tiny, tiny. This is a huge ship and with the tiny rooms it holds a lot of people, but does not have enough elevators to accommodate them, so expect a long wait time. You cannot even take sealed bottled water on-board unless you have a "written" statement from your doctor. If you want water, you must purchase it on-board for the low price of $7.95 per bottle or $26.95 for HALF a case (that's 6 bottles, mind you). The very first night on-board we asked our cabin steward for coffee packets (there was a coffee maker which made one cup at a time in the room, but no coffee). He informed us that they were out of coffee packs but we could order room service coffee at no charge. When I called, they said room service coffee was $9.95 (after breakfast) and we could only get complimentary coffee in the morning. Next morning I was on hold for 35 minutes and was told it would be 30 to 45 minutes wait and $7.95. We told them it was supposed to be complimentary because we had no coffee in the room. We had to hold again until they could confirm that. Our cabin steward was great and did everything possible to make our stay enjoyable. He was always at our beck and call and was always friendly. The staff on the common areas were not nearly so friendly. I have been on cruises where EVERY staff person ALWAYS spoke. No so on this cruise; most of those "in charge" did not even appear to notice us guests. Another thing, it was my understanding that if you dined in the complementary dining rooms, you could order anything on the menu....not so anymore. The "better" entrees now have a hefty up-charge. And, there are more up-charge restaurants than complementary ones. We bought the 3 meal up-charge package and I must say the three up-charge restaurants we chose (Cagneys, LeBistro, & Moderno Chiaroscuro) were excellent. I am not a prude and go to NY and Atlanta to see Broadway shows. However, the show in their big theater, "Priscilla, Queen of the Desert," was so vulgar and offensive we could not sit through it and got up and left. Why a cruise line would book that kind of show for a cruise (other than gay men) is beyond me. However, the show "Burn the Floor" was exciting and well done by a talented cast. We thoroughly enjoyed it. This was my first cruise with Norwegian and it may very well be my last. If their other ships are like the Epic, I am not interested in sailing with this cruise line again. the ship in itself is awesome. Extremely clean. all staff was very concerned with sanitation issues. "Washy washy' people all over with hand sanitizer. my cabin, which was a studio was quite adequate for my needs. I wish more cruise lines would follow suit . the food in the complementary restaurants was adequate. some meals were lukewarm. The buffet had plenty of choices and even with the number of people moved very quickly. Adequate seating. The two main shows, Burn the Floor and Pricilla were wonderful. Service was great except for my cabin steward who obviously was in training. The ports and excursions offered , on the most part, were great. Embarkation was pretty smooth except for Port Canaveral. Massive traffic jam trying to park at the port.. Jamaica , as expected, is a poor country Everyone looking to sell you something. Anything. We were told by our guide at Dunns river falls that the other guides would actually board the bus and demand their tips. Grand Cayman is beautiful! The day I went to the Tulum ruins was very hot! I am glad I did my homework and found out about the trolley for $2.00! Saved me from having heatstroke! And the best of all was my spa pass. Great place to get away from the people and the noise on. I am already looking at a southern Carribean cruise for next December on Norwegian Dawn! Read Less

My friend and I sailed last week on the Norwegian Epic. We both had Studio Staterooms and I continue to believe they are brilliant. There is plenty of room for one person and the Studio Living Room is a great meeting place to catch up with other solos or grab a cup of freshly brewed coffee. I only hope that more cruise lines add solo rooms to their ships. Overall, the Epic is a good ship and it's big. Embarkation was not bad at all. We arrived at the port about 12:00pm and were on the ship by 1:00pm. There are two terminals for the Epic which makes the process fairly quick. We opted for early walk-off disembarkation and with the exception of a small elevator wait had no troubles at all. We both opted for the UDP and had dinner in a specialty restaurant every night. Our favorite was Cagney's and Teppanyaki. Next in line would have been La Cucina and Le Bistro. Unlike other guests we met during the week, Moderno wasn't our favorite. The wait staff paid no attention to the color cards and were constantly interrupting to see if we wanted more. This was with our color card showing red and our plates quite full. The steak was not as good as we experienced in Cagney's. The shows were quite good and our favorite was Howl at the Moon. I cannot tell you how much fun we had and I wish I remembered all the toasts. A close second was Fat Cats and with the Blues band and the Manhattan Jazz band. Both groups were excellent and be sure to see both during your week. The Blue Man group was very good, but I do believe it will no longer be offered on the Epic. Finally, Cirque Dreams was pretty good, but do not expect Cirque du Soleil quality. The entertainers were good and quite athletic, but not what you would find in Las Vegas, etc. The 2nd City troupe was pretty funny, but they would come in last for our entertainment choices. All staff during our excursions were top notch and really worked hard to ensure you had a good time. We did go to Tulum and while it was an amazing site, keep in mind you will travel to and fro for about 4 hours and have about 1.5 hours at the site. I am a bit of a history buff and found it worth it. The crossing from Cozumel to Playa de Carmen is very bouncy and rough. Please ensure you are adequately prepared with Bonine, Seabands, etc. The boarding process leaving Grand Cayman using tenders was abysmal. Trying to get approximately 4,000 people on two tenders at a time didn't work. We were in line waiting for at least an hour at the end of the port day. I think Norwegian could have done a better job coordinating this one. My last piece of advice is to have fun! Our weather was cloudy from Sunday to Tuesday and it poured when we were in the Jamaican rain forest. I struggle with people who focus on one little item and complain during their review. You are on vacation and in the Caribbean or somewhere else with a nice view. Enjoy it and have a cocktail! Read Less

I chose the epic because of the Solo cabins ,but otherwise was rather disappointed The 4500 passengers is too large, especially when part of the outdoor space is dedicated to those willing to pay extra for the space. This is not fair . Outdoor space was at a premium with many disagreements between passengers on sitting rights. Security is very lax with many smoking other than in designated areas, many younger people wandering the ship drunk with drinks in there hands late at night, dances lacked it and many carried drinks on to the dance floor and of course this led to broken glass Service was less than good which may be due to the policy of adding gratuities to your bill. The staff knows they will get a tip and may not be attentive as possible It is possible to reverse the gratuity though and tip as earned. On the positive side the staff member assigned to the solo travelers was great, the entertainment and food selection good. I wish they add these Solo cabins to more ships The old saying is always true -you get what you pay for or in this case do not get what you do not pay for Read Less

Just returned from a 7 day western Caribbean cruise on the Epic sailing from Miami in a studio cabin. I’ll break the review down into a few segments to keep my thoughts on this trip organized. Embarkation/Disembarkation – No problems here. Arrived at the port and was on the ship in an hour. Terminal very busy but the line kept moving. Cabin was ready as I boarded at 1pm. Bag arrived a few hours later. On departure day I walked off the ship with my own bags at 9am with no problems. Processed through customs with no wait and shuttled to MIA to pick up a car. Ship Overview – Epic was the first mega ship with lots of razzle dazzle when launched in 2010. Let’s be honest, it’s an ugly monstrosity with the Haven area looking like it was dropped on to the top of the ship as an afterthought. Epic is showing its age in places. The big problem with cigarette smoke around the casino and open area spanning decks 5,6 and 7 seems to have been solved or there weren’t many smokers onboard. Skimping on a set of mid ship elevators still creates havoc on this ship. Elevators were always jammed. I use the stairs but it was easy to tell that it creates a lot of congestion. Finding deck space on sea days an issue too. Many of the ‘First at Sea’ venues sat empty most of the time. I rarely saw anyone bowling or in the Ice Bar. Crew/Guest Relations etc. – Crew seems to be pretty happy overall on the ship. Everyone was pleasant and helpful most of the time. Guest relations was fine given that they are faced with some real issues that are not easily solved at times. They helped facilitate a move when the person in the adjoining cabin was very noisy. Captain, Senior Officers etc. – The Captain was visible all week. Cruise director was good and around a lot too. Jovan was the coordinator in the studios and was a fun guy with a quirky sense of humour. There was a major issue with tendering in Grand Cayman involving the senior crew but more on that later. Entertainment – Epic excels at entertainment. The shows were all very good. Musicians top notch. I wished they had promoted the hypnotist Nadeen a little better. I would certainly have attended her show/shows and the seminar she also hosted. Options thin out later in the evening. Expect that anything that happens after midnight outside of the casino will be catered to those under 30. It was the same top 40 club crap over and over at Bliss. The one night they actually played some fun ‘retro’ music from the 80’s and 90’s it lasted all of an hour and then right back to the annoying 25 songs they played over and over. Food – The quality of the food on the Epic was good overall. Service can be very inconsistent. There was a lot of confusion in the pub restaurant between the food and drink servers. The buffet was nuts some mornings. Finding a table and congestion were major issues. La Cucina was very good but the server brought out the mains and pasta course at the same time and put two plates in front of us. They should know better as an Italian venue. Le Bistro was good too but items were missed despite it not being overly busy. The same at Cagney’s, a 30 minute wait between apps and main course despite no one asking for a steak cooked over medium. Noodle bar was very good. And now on to my two major complaints: This week was not selling well right into December. I booked the studio in early December and received a ‘Latitudes’ rate. A week later NCL started a major promotion where they dropped balcony rates substantially plus added perks like free specialty dining, a free beverage package or OBC. There were couples on board who paid less per person in a large family balcony with free drinks included than what I did for the studio. And NCL would do nothing when I called them and when my TA called them. It feels as though they think that with the studio program they are the only game in town and don’t have to work very hard to keep this market. So I was stuck with a nice bill for specialty dining and drinks for the week where others were getting it for free. And it irked me further when I realized the chardonnay I was paying $8.34 a glass for with tip sells for 5 bucks and change by the bottle at Publix. The other incident was the tendering fiasco in Grand Cayman. They were using 3-4 lifeboats from the ship as the primary tenders. They also had two small tenders from shore. Getting off the ship to shore took 45 minutes. Getting back onboard for some took up to three hours. We left port three hours late as a result. There were some very unhappy cruisers. At first the Captain tried to downplay the incident as being much like a traffic jam etc. despite the other ships in port having no such problems. Then in a subsequent announcement the Captain was almost belligerent in stating that they had done all they could and it was shameful for some passengers to be angry with the crew. He even went so far as to say that if anyone felt they could have done better that they should send him a note. Well lo and behold a few hours later a rather apologetic Captain was on the PA again sounding a little more conciliatory thanking the numerous passengers who had taken the time to write him. Even the cruise director was sent out in the theatre to try to chat up the crowd. Why did the Epic get the furthest anchorage from the pier despite being the largest ship? Who knows? Why did they not get shore based tenders that are expert in moving large groups of people? Who knows? No one was actually talking about it. It was a mess and professional mariners would have been embarrassed. So all in all a decent vacation but NCL seems to fall short in some important areas. The other lines would be wise to add solo cabins or look into changing their policy on single supplements. I think if I was cruising as a couple I would choose Celebrity again. My experience on Silhouette sailing from Venice last August was a much nicer cruise.   Read Less

This was my first NCL/Epic Cruise. I am an 8+ Carnival Cruisers. Things I missed from Carnival Ships - Deli - 24 Hour Pizza for free - Guys Burgers - Don't Laugh - Banana Yougurt - Don't Laugh - Frozen Yogurt in the Soft Serve Machines - Quality Buffet/Included Food - Larger Cabins (I was in a studio but saw how small the standard cabins were) - Attending events without pre-planning/reservations - Nightly Comics (most nights) - Well laid out comedy club As it happens - I was on a Carnival Cruise immediately afterwards Things I missed from the Epic - For pay food venues were exceptional on Epic (multiple choices, $15-$20 per person) - Entertainment options were highly superior - More beverage options in the buffet - Better Pizza (but not available 24/7 unless through room delivery of $5) - O'Sheehans Pub - Food not great but liked the atmosphere and casual table service Embarking in Miami was a breeze - was there for 11:20 and on board in an hour - room was ready and bags available in 3 hours. Disembarkment - best ever - Self Assist - was off the boat and through customs in under 30 minutes. Got lucky on the rental car shuttle and was at MIA in under an hour total. Ship is starting to show a little wear - not everything in cabin worked flawlessly. Found it very hard to find quiet spots to relax. All hot tubs are in major traffic areas so it was difficult to find time when they were quiet. Gym was well equiped and had many machines. On this cruise it was mostly empty whenever I went for my daily visit. Service - I never noticed a service problem, but I am not picky about that. Casino occupies most of one deck that is well travelled. I was pleasantly surprised that smoke was not an issue. What I found disappointing was most evenings only had 1.5 hours of entertainment available. Overall I was happy I took the cruise. I have no desire to repeat an Epic cruise, but if one was neccessary I would do so.   Read Less
