Wow, what a great cruise! I sailed with my wife, 16-year-old daughter, her best friend and another couple in a total of 3 cabins. We embarked on March 24th and arrived back at Port Canaveral this morning a very tired group. Embarkation was very quick. We arrived at10:30, spent about 10 minutes getting our sea cards and the rest of the time waiting for our group to be called at 11:30. Overall, the food on the ship was fabulous. Our favorite meals were at La Bistro and Shanghai’s. Cagney’s was pretty good, but I don’t understand all of the hype I have been reading. The restaurant itself was amazing, but the food was about a 7 out 10. I got the porterhouse and my wife got the filet which were both about the quality you might get at outback. O’Sheehan’s was a very cool place to be as far as atmosphere, but the food was definitely on the lesser side of our favorites. They seem to have a bad habit of bringing out cold food that would probably be very good if it were hot. Service was also very hit or miss, mostly miss. We ate at Cirque Dreams and had a very nice meal here, especially considering it being “show food” and coming out all at once for the entire restaurant. The show itself was amazing. The food on all of the buffets was always fresh and very tasty. We also had a sushi snack at Wasabi’s and was very impressed. Entertainment on the ship was some of the better we have ever seen. All of the theatre shows were worth seeing. We became groupies of “Siglo” who plays everything from contemporary rock to classic rock and are spot on with all of the songs they sing. Unfortunately, this was there farewell week on the Epic and they are on a plane right now to Germany to become the headliner on the Bliss. I would book my next cruise just to see these guys, they were that good. The band even helped me with a customized souvenir by autographing a broken bass drum. Epic Beatles is definitely worth seeing as is Howl at the Moon. We did not do the comedy club, but I heard it was great. During sea days, the pool is VERY busy and the Epic does not have a lot of hidden areas like you see on many cruise ships to get away from the crowd. I was told when we checked in at the port that our sailing had the second most number of passengers ever, so that did not help the crowd issue. The pool bars do become very busy but if you tip the bartenders and the waiters bringing drinks, they will definitely pay you more attention. If we sail again on the Epic, we’ll most likely upgrade to the Haven to be guaranteed a place to get away from the crowd. Our 16 year olds were not impressed with the teen club. That being said, all of the younger teens we spoke with loved it. Ours are just the age where they want to meet new people and "hang out", which was mostly done by the pool. The feedback from both of them was an awesome cruise. Overall, We really liked the Epic and would sail again. If you have specific questions, comment below and I’ll do my best to answer them. The solo cruisers program hosted on this cruise by Morne Carstens was great. There was a good selection of dining choices and entertainment events. However, there was often not enough space in a particular venue to view and enjoy some events, O'Sheehans bar and grill had too narrow a selection of entrees. For me this ship was too big. I will choose a smaller ship in the future. Although I did enjoy several features unique to the size ship, such as the multi-level water slides and the ice room, they are not enough of an incentive for me to recommend this ship to others. I also enjoyed the therma spa but felt it was overpriced. Also the bar service was consistently slow as it seemed the bars were understaffed. One positive was guest services - staff here were always available and responsive. I also felt the on board shopping choices were less attractive than other cruises I have taken. Read Less

Recently, had the pleasure of cruising the Epic in February. I love Norwegian and really like the Escape and Getaway. I’m definitely a megaship fan. The Epic is different-no waterfront (which I knew ahead of time-but will say was a nice add to the more recent ships). Also, somethings seem backwards-when comparing to the Getaway and Escape (such as Atrium-in back of ship, same with Maltings Whiskey Bar). Spice H20 is different-it has a pool and hot tubs. However, stadium layout makes it challenging to have big parties-such as the glow party. Still, it has its upsides-such as the pool and no children. Embarkation in Port Canaveral was different than Miami-seemed easier. I was on around 1130-1145 with ease and definitely not a Group 1. I went to Taste for lunch-was nice. I also very much enjoy the Garden café-the pizza I so good it is grabbed up as soon as the crew can place it out. I was a solo cruiser and NCL does that well. My steward, Bryan, was wonderful. My solo coordinator, Lester, was also fabulous! I met some great people over the week-both cruisers and crew! Unfortunately, I did not get to dine in any of the specialty restaurants. Unfortunately, cruisers have taken to booking all their reservations when they get onboard at the latest. It makes it hard to “freestyle”. I don’t want to book that early-as its unknown when various events will be such as fun gameshow, Deal or No Deal. Sure, I could obtain the Daily newsletter in advance but I enjoy reading it for the first time each night. Freestyling is the NCL way and cruisers need to be less anal and stop booking all dinner reservations in advance-this is not Disney World. Alternatively, NCL could restrict reservations to same-day. However, I still think they should be like the Cheesecake Factory and not take reservations. I watched the musical Priscilla of the Desert-it was good. It is adult-themed. Overall, I think NCL needs to work on finding more shows for the 20, 30s and 40s crowd. Legally Blonde was good, Priscilla on this cruise was good and Brat Pack was ok. But overall, stuff like Million Dollar Quartet, Burn the Floor-just not appealing to the young professional crowd (IMO). This brings me to another piece of feedback. I understand some like live music-but that is not a universal pleasure. I think that is also more appealing to an older crowd. I was disappointed that EVERY bar on the EPIC had live music EVERY night. I just wanted to enjoy cocktails and chat with my friends. I would hope that in the future NCL would only schedule live music at some bars-not all. I will say the demographics on this cruise were also strongly an older crowd (not retired -more so had kids and they are now teens or older and families with small kids-I will probably stick more to sailing out of Miami. I just don’t think Port Canaveral has a large young professional demo-but of course it could have just been this cruise. Glow party was fun-it’s important to have parties. I hope they keep it. However, I think the schedule needs revision-many game shows were during the dinner hours-and then we had a big gap from 9 to almost 11. Rather than having game shows at 5, 6, 7-push them to 8, 9pm. I will also add that the studio cabins are great-very modern but the closet doors do not appear to be holding up well. A number of us did not have any closet door-bc they had stopped moving well and were removed. This should be addressed next dry dock. Also, I would not recommend Passion Island beach excursion in Cozumel-they only have a handful of real beach chairs-all of which were taken before we arrived. I would rate that excursion-not good at all! Overall, the Epic was a fun cruise. I love NCL and I think with a few tweaks we can make it even greater. Read Less

norweigian is my favorite cruise line. the Epic is a very differant set up from other norweigian ships. at first i did not like it, but after 14 days i got used to it. it felt very closed in at first. my solo cabin was good as usual, except for doors on closets, they had been removed, was not happy about that. .. my room stewart was very good, room was kept up and he was very quick at getting thing i needed. the food in compimentary restaurants was ok, i got tired of menu after week one. the irish pub food was good, the wings were great, need to be tried. they did not bring out extra chairs in the atuim for shows and games, people had to stand or get there very early, other norweigian ships have had extra chairs brought out. the shows i went to were very good, Burn the Floor was very good, a must see. Percilla queen of the desert was awesome i saw it twice and almost went a third time.. the service in restaurants was very good especially as we were usually a very large group the bar service was exceptinal, Valentine, and Vlhadamir, kept us well supplied.. i really enjoyed all my excusions, dunn falls was wonderful, blue lagoon was great, the only disappointment was passion island in cozamel, there were not enough loungers foe everone, we were second tender there and there were none left, only plastic molded ones on the sand, and the food was included, and there was only mexican food, so the lady with me couldnt eat as she cannot eat that kind of food. i really enjoyed this ship overall, ad would definalty sail on her again Read Less

This is written from the perspective of a first time cruiser, as a solo traveler, 65 yr male. Embarkation was a bit chaotic. The people waiting to board were mixed in with the people trying to get their boarding numbers. There were no instructions informing you that you needed to get your boarding pass first. I had to ask a stranger. The Norwegian employees were lost in the sea of people. Unfortunately, a lot of the travelers were taller than the employees, thus help hide the employees from view. Once I got to the window, got my boarding pass, and was given instructions, the rest of the boarding process went smoothly. Once on board, around 12:00, I had a few hours to wander around and get familiar with the ship. Try to bring a map of the ship with you. Otherwise, you can look at the maps next to the elevators. The cabin (Deck 9, forward, starboard) was available around 14:00 and my suitcase showed up shortly after. If you want to go to a specialty restaurant (or show), book it as soon as you get aboard. There will be a line of people ahead of you. Good luck trying to get seating between 18:00 - 20:00, that time frame is the first to be grabbed. That said, you would surprised to know how many people make a time reservation, and then don't show up nor call to cancel. Being a solo traveler, that actually worked to my advantage. The cabin was clean. The only discovery I made was that the previous occupant had trimmed their nails on the balcony. As others have noted, the bed was a bit short. I would guess it to be about 6' long. I am 6'3". They appear to be two twins pushed together. When you first open your door, the toilet "Phone Booth" was on my right, and the shower "Phone Booth" on the left. There is a curtain, (which mysteriously disappeared for three days), that separates the toilet and shower from the bedroom. The sink, and all towels, are in the bedroom. Being a solo traveler, I guess they decided that I did not always need two bath towels, hand towels, or washcloths. Someday there would be one, someday two. That was OK, as long as I did no activities that required me to take more than one shower a day. The floors were vacuumed every other day. There was a coffee maker and mini-bar refrigerator in the room. They take sanitation seriously. There were hand cleaning stations through out the ship. You could not board the ship or enter an eating area without being greeted by an employee with a hand sanitize spray bottle. "Washy washy, Happy happy". People who showed signs of sickness were quarantined on the ship, both passengers and crew. The food was good, with the best being in the upgrade restaurants. The buffet was located on the top deck (15th) of the ship. It had your standard cafeteria fare. If you need to get bulk into your stomach, don't want to take off you flip-flops or hat, it is a good choice. The rest of the restaurants are located below on decks 5, 6, and 7. These are all menu choice, with a few actually having a dress code. There was an Irish pub, but it didn't have Guinness on tap, go figure. The fish in the Fish-n-Chips were about the size of a hot-dog. Of the upgrade restaurants I tried, Le Bistro was the best. The Spa was good. Take a free tour of it. I brought, and used, the week pass. In addition, I got a massage that put me to sleep. There are deck chairs on the spa balcony that over look the stern of the ship. Given the space, the shows were very good. You will enjoy them. The Cruise Directors staff was very helpful and friendly. They put on many activities throughout the day and evening to appeal to a variety of interest. The main smoking areas of the ship are outdoors, on the 15th deck, or in the casino. Unfortunately, you have to walk through the casino to get from the restaurants to the shows sometimes. How long can you hold your breath. The ship sponsored shore excursions were a bit pricey, but good. If a ship sponsored excursion is late getting back, they will hold the ship. They held the ship for 30 minutes for a late returning, ship sponsored, shore party. The debarkation went smoothly. They pick up your bags the night before and I was able to walk off the ship, get my bags and leave. If you are a solo traveler, the Norwegian Cruise Line is for you. They work to get you involved and meeting other people. I do not have any other cruise to compare to, but I would do another trip on this ship. Cheers! Read Less

We chose this ship because we wanted to go to Jamaica and the Cayman Islands. We flew into Orlando and took the Go Port Canaveral transfer package from airport/ to hotel/ to the ship/ to the airport. It was an easy process. It took about an hour to get from the hotel to the port. IMPORTANT TIP: To speed past much of the line, find the elevator. It drops you at the top of the stairs! At that point, it still took 45 minutes to get on the boat. So, any shortcut helps! We stayed in a mini suite on the 13 floor. This was a good location, as it was a short 2 floors up the stairs to the pool deck and buffet. The gym was up one deck. The room was very strange, as many reported. We adjusted without much problem. There was a lot of storage space and closet space. However, electric outlets were sparse. They were located under the cabinet opposite the bed. Not very convenient at all. Bring your own body wash and shampoo. They have some stinky herbal stuff that was short of disgusting. And lady's, there is no conditioner!!! Bring your own. Last year we were in a suite on the Dawn, and had some awesome Bvlgari products. This is our 3rd Norwegian cruise. This was our worst in terms of service. We had the drink package. It was hard to find a bartender that was attentive or not rude. No one smiled. They seemed annoyed to be there. We never experienced that on other ships. We were in Spice H20 most of the time during the day. Finding waiters was difficult, at best. We waived, yelled, etc.. to get their attention (when there was one to be seen). They would wave and then make their way after 5 minutes or so. Again, annoyed to be there and no smile or friendly words. The restaurants were OK. The menu never changed, so if you wanted variety, you needed to try another entre or go to a specialty restaurant. NOTE: We usually dress up for dinner and got great service in the Manhattan. However, we ate in Cagney's twice- both times the service was without a smile. The experience in Teppanyaki was good. It was entertaining. The food was just ok. I had steak. It was under seasoned. So was the rice. My wife had shrimp and scallops. The scallops were very fishy and seemed undercooked. The Garden Cafe was fine, however, many of the "American" dishes were far from tasting that way. I think they need to invest in an American cookbook, because American staples should look and taste accordingly. Pool Deck- get there early and reserve a spot, or you may find slim pickings on finding chairs- especially at Spice H20. We like being in the hot tubs. One day they were very hot, other days cool or luke warm. No consistency. Entertainment- I thought Norwegian was supposed to be "freestyle"? There were many venues that required reservations. Even tenders? We reserved the Burn the Floor show several months in advance. Upon boarding the ship, we had a letter in our cabin that said we were bumped, and rescheduled to another show (on the last night of the cruise). Not cool. Also, we paid for premium seats for the Cirque show and were seated upstairs. We didn't get what we paid for. The show was outstanding, but we got the bait and switch. The Epic Beatles were also very good, however, get there at least an hour early if you want a chance at getting to sit down. The bartender is not very friendly in there either. We got into the dueling piano bar, which was OK... I've seen better singers. We never were able to get tickets to Escape the Big Top. This ship is big and crowded. Tours- In Jamaica, we went to Dunn's River Falls plus the VIP Beach tour. This was a very good experience. In Cayman- we went shopping and went to a restaurant and had lobster tails for lunch. When we returned, we found many people who reserved tours had them canceled due to rough seas. We decided not to go to the private island. The tender reservation schedule just wasn't worth the hassle. We heard there wasn't much shade, the food wasn't very good and the beach was crowded. Glad we skipped it. Next time, we will be more selective to not book cruises with more than one tender. Gym- The gym had plenty of equipment and machines. However, there were no towels the first few days, which was annoying. Also, no attendants there. Maid- She was great, pleasant, smiling and very friendly! We tipped her extra! All together, we like Norwegian, but this trip just seemed like less service and less for our money. Maybe that's what you get with the bigger ships? We still had fun and made the best of it. It just wan't for us. So, we won't be cruising on the Epic again. Read Less

Went on the Epic 3 years ago, really enjoyed it. Cruised again on the Epic in January, 2018, worst cruise ever. The service was horrible, not too many smiiles from the staff except "WASHY, WASHY". The food was just OK, not too many choices at the breakfast buffet. Main restaurant food just OK again, our food was left on the cart for 20 minutes, when it was served to us, of course it was cold, had to return 2 plates because they were all cold and dried. A lot of chairs available though, which was fine. No formal dinner, too casual. The captain spoke to us only once during the whole trip, as opposed to other cruiselines where the captain reports to us every day at least once. The only good thing and I mean "REALLY GOOD" were the shows which exceeded my expectations. Last time on the Epic. Will try another ship next time, maybe it will be better. Don't recommend it at all, and I am not a very fussy person but this time, had to review this cruise. Read Less

Singles cruise and my 74th cruise overall. Not thinking I just thought a NYE cruise with some football on the ships tv's would be fun. Many on board very unhappy to have only two sports to watch the whole week. Cricket and Soccer. Paid extra for internet to only be very disappointed in the coverage and signal. No more NCL for this frequent cruiser. I will be canceling my cruise on the Bliss in October for Halloween.Have booked Celebrity. I was in Haven owners suite so my room was nice and service was excellent. I noticed even though being told reservations not available many of the themed restaurants had many empty tables at all hours. On chilly days of which there where three I think some of the interior bars should have been opened. Needed some aspirin after giving the ones I had to a friend and guess what....the ship had not had aspirin on board for retail purchase for two weeks. This was straight from the young lady working in the shops on board. They markup everything so tell be how hard it would be for a shore bound employee to go to a Walgreens and bring some to the ship? This is our third Norwegian Cruise. It was our first time in a Spa Balcony Cabin, the other were Suites. Our cabin included unlimited access to the spa facilities, 3 free Specialty meals and free standard alcohol plus $175 "play" money. The Epic is a large ship with a lot to do and eat! We ate in the garden cafe for breakfast every morning and tried Teppenyaki, Le Bistro, Wasabi, and Cagney's. All were top notch. Others told us they felt the cabins where smaller than the Jewell class ships but we felt ours was adequate. The Cirque show as very good, I'd pay for premium seats of I did it again. Priscilla Queen of the Desert was excellent. Burn the floor was strange and disjointed with now story to tie it together, but entertaining. Howl at the Moon was entertaining despite one of the performers seeming to be drunk and unable to remember the simplest lyric. We used the gym and had no issues with getting to equipment. We used the spa whirlpools and saunas almost every day and t was never too crowded and I was always able to get heated chair when I wanted one. I organized a CC Meet and Greet for 30 people. Many of the ships officers attended and made introductions and we received a card with their phone numbers. All were very nice and attentive. Our cruise was worry free and I never had to call any of them. We were spoiled by the services that come with a suite so we did a lot of comparing the advantages of a Suite over a non-suite though-out our trip. In the end we concluded that we missed the concierge services the most. The Concierge gets you on and off the ship quickly and without crowds or lines, books restaurants and shows and quickly answers any question. We only missed the Butler once (when we came back from excursions and the restaurants where all closed we missed that snack the butler always brought) but that was not big deal. oh and we missed the bottle of wine in the room. I selected "Singles Cruise" below because we met a lot of singles on the ship and they all were so happy and told us they had no problems meeting people and absolutely loved the singles lounge and activities they had been involved in. Tips: *Make all of your specialty reservations in advance - they fill up quickly when you are on board. *Pick a tender letter as soon as you board (on the app or TV) Note that the date and time listed with the tenders is irrelevant. The letters are called in order as the tender are available to board. (all letters where listed as the second tender day at noon so I stood in line to schedule a tender the first day and learned the letter works all days once you have it) *At Great Stirrup Cay look for the Taco building - it is separate from the main buffet and well worth it. (beef, chicken, fish options or ask for a tortilla and make your own vegi taco) * Wrap up warm and catch a nighttime movie on the aft end H2O area. It was really pleasant and my husband, who has a hard time hearing in theaters, was able to hear he whole movie clearly. Summary: We had a relaxing and fun vacation and we will definitely be on Norwegian again. We'll be in a suite. Read Less

First time on Norwegian, have cruised 12 other times on other ships. I really enjoyed the Norwegian Epic. Great ship, lots to do, entertainment was fabulous. Lot's of kids, but hey, what do you expect with a huge waterpark on the Lido Deck!!!!. I had a great balcony stateroom with a huge balcony aft. I travelled solo. Stateroom had loads of storage and closet space. The separate shower and toilet thing was a little odd, but I was solo, so it did not affect me. Staff were very friendly and accomodating especially my room steward Clipson. Wow, was he a great steward. Room was always clean and tidy and he was always there if you needed something. The restaurant staff were great at Taste and Manhattan and the food was very good. I did try the french bistro the first night but my filet was "off", meaning the meat was not good, it was spoiled. The head waiter told me he checked with the chef and there was nothing wrong with my meal. Trust me, it was bad and I really did not like his attitude, but hey I was not going to let it ruin my vacation. The only real issue I had as did many guests on the ship was the time it took to get a drink at the bars. It was ridiculous, sometimes standing for 10 or 15 minutes until you were served and it wasen't like they were busy serving any other folks. They just were not interested in serving guests their drinks. I don't get it, they make tips off the drinks they serve, so why not serve as many as you can? This is something the Norwegian management can fix and should fix. Other than that, I must say it was a good cruise.. I would do it again in a heartbeat! :) Read Less
