Embrakment was easy and organized. We had a balcony room lots of room for two people and storage for clothes. Dining was great. Had most meals at buffet garden cafe buffet, Cagney steakhouse, Japanese hibachi and braizilian steakhouse. Service was wonderful. Guaranteed you won’t go hungry. Don’t forget to have room service at least for a late night pizza snack. Ports of call are a way to stretch your legs. And shopping for jewelry and forget me nots..looking forward to my next cruise. Staff are friendly and helpful service was wonderful. Also lots to do on the ship on sea days. Your daily schedule was full or just enjoy the day with a drink in hand and make friends for a life time. I enjoyed being pampered. And not having to follow a schedule and free style. I suggest 120 days out to sailing book your dining times for dinner. Early times go fast. We like to dine early. So, I was happy someone suggested that we booked earlier. Shows every evening. So, if you’re looking forward to some pampering book your getaway trip soon. Read Less

Epic Starting with boarding-disaster/no Wheelchairs-blind people with canes all left to fend for themselves at bottom of stairs and escalator-no one organizing lines -one line became 2 th en 3 then a mob-countless people getting pushed and shoved-Utter chaos-no wheelchairs were available until after check in-took 1 hour after signing up to get it-two people came in and tried to get help for 94 year old and an 84 year old-no help at all -they had to walk-in to sign up to get a chair-10 in our group -all complained worse boarding ever? Talked to others during trip one couple with 27 cruises another with 30-we are close to 20 if u count river cruises——Platinum or plus doesn’t help outside! Toaster and coffee pot both broken on Sat Am on pool deck-toaster still broken 3 Food and service for 10 in Manhattan was very poor-many items cold or Luke warm-took forever between courses Dinner and service at Taste much better but still not hot Invited to Platinum party -went in -helped myself to wine -but no seats-we left Irish bar still the best concept yet- but service is very sketchy on the side with the pool tables-u have to flag people down and the 20 min before u get a drink—then the menu is different on the other side-both sides should be identical-I do not know whose brilliant idea that concept was -but forget it-open the whole thing up-with all the people on this ship the Irish Bar should be open on both sides-this waiting 25 min is crazy also could use one more facility of that size-maybe Italian or Greek or mixture of both/“Mediterranean Delight” Premium liquor package-somehow managed to drop Makers Mark off the list-Grey goose still on-totally arbitrary-like trying to squeeze two Buffalo nickels together to get a dime-come on -Premium is premium-stop the nickel /dime stuff-it demeans you! Pool way to small-both of them! Elevators-only 2 sets should be 3-a long wait always Service in the food areas very chaotic and inconsistent-Taste good -Manhattan terrible-Why? Now Disembarkation-rented a wheelchair from u for last 3 days-was told I could have an Escort to push the chair from my room to beyond passport -then the daily news says u can’t-so I call the desk and they say I can’t-so I told them to go across to Hotel Services and check it out-he comes back all surprised that I do have someone coming to get me-so I get a call before 7 am saying he is on the way and should he bring a wheelchair-we say no because I have one I rented from u-boy was that a mistake/ we get to gangway checkout and are told we cannot go any further with that wheelchair we have to get another one to go down the ramp-so we hold up the whole line for 15 min-then the guard checks our ship cards-mine is not working and he thinks I should go back and get a new one-my wife said no way-use hers-so finally we leave-getting over to the landslide and have to wait for a land-side pusher to take us through customs-which he did After a 20 minute wait-So we had a disastrous time on both loading and unloading. Also many times the people in our group of 10 were told one thing by one person and the opposite by another-not once or twice but many times-almost to please us with an answer-right or wrong! Most of Bar waiters and bartenders were top notch but especially if they were tipped -now this next thing I don’t know who to blame-Ordered a Southern Comfort Manhattan with sweet vermouth and a dash of bitters on the rocks-a standard for over a century-I got SC on the rocks-SC with red coloring-a glass of SC and a glass of Vermouth (mix my own I think)-the variety was amazing including a few drinks Straight Up instead of on the rocks!- Read Less

I booked this cruise for my family because I'd had really good experiences with Norwegian. This was quite the exception. From the start of having no one to greet us to taking 3 hours to get on the ship due to lack of employee knowledge, system errors and just plain laziness, to the room flooding, to having no accessibility in the room for my handicapped dad to the wheelchair that was recommended by ncl's rental company not fitting in the room to poor customer service. This was the worst cruise I'd been on. After all the things that happened my parents were given $100 each on board credit. The food, food staff, ports, shows and room attendants were very lovely but the customer service desk used standard lines and showed no comparison. They knew a water pipe burst at 8pm and didn't bother to check the rooms. Then they expected my elderly parents to walk in the water throughout the night because they weren't going to fix it until the morning. If you are staying with a friend in the room beware that there is no privacy for showers and bathroom except a curtain and then you can't leave the room if the other is in the shower. Awkward. We were looking forward to another cruise with NCL, since our experience on the Pearl was good. This was awful! *The embarkation was a fiasco, with the problem being more Port Canaveral's. It was a cold morning, and they had to stop allowing people up the escalator to the indoor waiting area. Fights were taking place, and security had to be called. Most were cold, hungry, tired and confused, since there was no communication from anyone. This became a constant theme throughout the cruise! But at no time did anyone from NCL apologize for it and take some responsibility. When you were finally on board it was as if nothing had happened. *Pools are a real joke!!! 3 of them, with one being in the quiet area. Very small, more of a stand-up pool. If any more than 4 people were in it, it became overcrowded. The main pool area was the only pool space with shade, but the stupid music was so loud you couldn't talk to each other. Ridiculous! Even after request to turn the music down, nothing! *Waiting for an elevator became a game. No matter which was it goes, climb on because you may never see another one! Too many scooters!!!!!! * To see any show, you had to wait in line for an hour, then seats were gone quickly. I have never had that experience on any other cruise. Venues are way too small for that size of a ship with that many passengers. *Front desk was somewhat rude. I asked a young lady where the library was (mapped showed it very close to their desk). The girl grabbed my map and sent me to the back of the ship. I came back and told her it should be near where we were. She simply repeated her orders. It was across the hall and behind a door! *Layout of this ship is terrible. Hard to maneuver around anywhere comfortably. *Talent on board, except for a few, was pretty bad. Howl at the Moon singers were not singers! * Onboard activities: Napkin folding! Just Dance! *Movies selected were unbelievable! Overboard, Adrift and Showdogs?! Really! Who picked this garbage? (Andre'?) One good day they showed "It's A Wonderful Life" and it was standing room only! *It was Christmas. Why not organize an evening of caroling, or show more holiday related movies? Other than decorations, it was never mentioned or celebrated. Very disappointing. *That leaves us with debarkation. We were herded onto the 6th floor, with no announcement from anyone, just rumors, to try and organize a line, which went from the front to the back of the ship. There was 1 person from staff I saw and she was yelling at someone who was trying to take the escalator to 5! Apparently, some big wigs from corporate were suppose to be there for our leaving, but never saw a single person!!!! No, wait...there were two lovely ladies waving goodbye and thanking us...Washy Washy Girls!!!! That was it. No thanks for spending your time, your money and your sanity with us. They could have cared less. We will never cruise NCL again! Read Less

The smoke on deck 6 made us sick, had to see the onboard doctor, which really messed up our cruise. We love the Cavern club, but it was so packed that we couldn't enjoy it. People went to the show before and just hung out. Food from the Cirque was not good at all. The meat was cold. The biggest disappointment was that they only had two scuba (we are advance divers) excursions. They did not have any for Cayman or Belize which are amazing dive sites. We had to do our own for Jamaica, Cayman, and Belize. That was a huge disappointment. When we travel on Carnival they are working with us on the ship to schedule dives if they do not have any set up. Norwegian staff would not. The TV vacation planner did not work. We would have things schedule and it would not show up and then we didn't think we had it when we did. This happened in regards to a show and in regards to a dinner reservation. The iConceirge Ap said there was an upgrade and I was never able to use it. We did the Blackjack tournament and asked to get into the one of the rounds on a table that was not filled up and she said it was after 12 when our watches said 1158 and she would not budge even showing her the time. I was penalized in the Blackjack tournament for pushing two stacks of chips in one move onto the betting space when the lady running it told me I could not and then the next lady that took over told people to do it. Bathrooms on deck (not in the room) were often out of paper towels. The embark and disembark were nightmares. I've never had that kind of problem on any other ship. My wife said she would never want to travel on Epic again but I probably would (but not without her). After the experience, I prefer Carnival and the way they do things. I wanted to like Norwegian more. The stateroom and ship and staff were awesome. Read Less

Good Point: Emarkation Port close to our home city, Atlanta, Georgia Bad Points: 1. Ship needs dry dock and soon! 2. Tile floors near restaurants are cracked and broken, carpets are dirty, lights malfunctioning in elevators, I had to fix the "plug in" for the coffee maker, the ship is OLD, only 10 years old, and it shows it... 3. We were in a AFT balcony and the vibration when pulling in and out of ports was horrendous, so bad the cabinets over the head of the bed vibrated like they were going to fall. The glass windows on the BALCONY were never cleaned the whole cruise, the crew cleaned some but never finished and the rust is showing real bad... 4. Staff was not trained, for instance the line at the help desk was so long that the people would just walk up in front of the line and there was no one to "police" the line. When ship was releasing from port in Cozomuel, the crew while releasing ropes started pulling the wrong rope in, people were throwing chicken bones off the back of the ship into the water, and no staff to stop them. It was so cold in the TASTE restaurant we had to carry our beach towel with us to stay warm...And to top it off we got back into port at Canaveral on December 5, there were only 2 (TWO) Custom's Agents at the port trying to disembark over 4000 guest, IT WAS A TOTAL CLUSTER in the baggage claim area, almost missed our flight back home. 5. We did not buy the beverage package, my wife is "non-drinker"... A beer was $10 and a "double" drink was $22 (a single shot was $12). The ship no longer gives plastic straws, only paper and you have to ask the bar folks for them. It took 20 minutes just to get Sugar Free jelly and the tables were always out of the yellow package sweetener. The food on the dinner menus have become sub-standard. 6. We are Platinum Plus and never got a invite or a notice of any Captians Party for the previous guest, had to ask for our bottles of water...NCL has lost their management policies. 7. I rated Entertainment HIGH (VERY GOOD) that is because of "BURN THE FOOR" and "The Beatles Mania" shows were GREAT! Read Less

Chose the cruise as it had good itinery of stops and the price was reaonable. Did not like our stateroom as it was tight to move around and the bathroom setup was poorly designed. The staff and room stewart were excellant. Food was very good and dining staff were freindly. This was a 4300 passenger ship and we prefer the 2400 size of ship as this one was too crowded. Long waits for the elevator. Theatre seated 800 passenagers same size as on the smaller ships. Did not like the crowded pool area on the upper deck- too crowded not eneough lounge chairs. The enteratinemnt was for the most part was mjust OK. We have experienced better entertainment on the smaller ships in the past. We traveled with 2 other couples and like to play cards but the small games room was always full, smae size room as on the 2400 passenager ship size. Will not cruise on the EPIC in the future. We took this cruise because of the extras offered by NCL. I think there were 17 bars and many restaurants. I was ready to be disappointed because of the number of passengers 4100 thinking that service would be slow. Not! The bartenders were already making the drinks before we were seated. The dining was not up to par, seemed the staff were overwhelmed and not enough help. The Matradee was very helpful on several occasions to solve any issues at the table. We always joined others who we did not know and some were more fussy than others. The food was very average but way to much on the plates. I don't need 10 pieces of bacon with two eggs. The steak house was the best. The filet 8 oz just fell apart, no knife needed. Bar service was instant and servers were always around. Room was the smallest we ever had, balcony was good size but needed two tables as one 12 inch was insufficient for two people. Room service was quick but after 10 AM you had to pay $8 for each order (a first for us). We had the drink package included but was not allowed to have canned soda's in our room. I would have brought my own but your not allowed to even bring water on the boat. Not good! If your over 200 lbs you might have trouble fitting in toilet area. Smallest on any cruise ship in industry. Couch very uncomfortable, back is curved out not in. Used it for storage. You should get this cruise for less than twelve hundred per person with drink package, balcony, four specialty restaurants and internet minutes included. One last thing there are only 8 elevators on each end of the ship. None in middle of ship. Usually two are out of service. This ship is over 1000 feet long so book at one end or the other. Read Less

The ship was late in returning to Miami because of Hurricane Tomas, so the embarkation process was both delayed and somewhat confused. But, once aboard, we found our cabin easily. We were dismayed to find that all the negative observations we'd read earlier were more than justified. Whoever designed and approved this cabin should be made to spend a week in one. It was pretty, but cramped. A sofa, which could accommodate a third person, faced a blank wall, rather than the flat screen television. The toilet might as well have been in the center of the cabin, and the shower, out in the hallway. Kiss privacy goodbye. The balcony was spacious enough, though the two chairs were less than comfortable. The temperature controls worked very well. Simply on the basis of the cabin, I would never, under any circumstance, book another cruise on the Epic. And there are plenty of other reasons, as well. We enjoyed a pleasant lunch in the Taste restaurant (one of the two main dining rooms). Later in the cruise, we would have dinner in the Manhattan Room, the other main room, where the ambiance was marred by a band who apparently were playing several different musical selections at once, in keys chosen at random. The food in both dining rooms was fine, certainly not distinguished, but well prepared and well served. We ate many meals in the Garden Cafe. Breakfasts offered a wide but unchanging selection, including made to order omelets and eggs. Lunches, too, included a wide variety of hot and cold foods, usually quite good. But, oh, the noise! Add to the huge number of people, all chattering away, the relentless and inescapable "music" played at high volume over the p a system. It was of the "hey, baby, doncha wanna do me, hey, baby, hey, yeah" variety. I thought if I heard Enrique Iglesias wail "baby I LIIIIKE it!" one more time I would do serious damage to myself or others. Come to think of it, there was virtually no place on the ship that offered a quiet spot to think, read, or relax. The so-called "library" on the ship was, in fact, a single shelf of books in random order, in the Bliss Ultra lounge, locked up for all but a few hours apparently kept jealously secret. We patronized a few of the upcharge restaurants. La Cucina: worst chicken parmesan I've ever had. Cagney's: upcharge for the restaurant, further upcharge for adding lobster; cold filet, 1/2 cold lobster tail; not even close to the food and service in other Cagney's on other NCL ships. Noodle bar: reasonable a la carte prices, excellent food prepared while you watch. Teppanyaki: delicious, fun, highly recommended. Room Service, by the way, offered FREE pizza, but only if you paid a $5 delivery fee; there was no provision for one to drop by and pick it up, gratis. The Blue Man Group was quite the best entertainment I've ever enjoyed aboard a ship. Legends in Concert was okay, if you like competent imitations--I mean "tributes"--to performers of somewhat iffy talent even in person. Britney Spears? Deliver me. The in-cabin television offerings left much to be desired. Aside from the predictable ship information and shopping channels, one could choose MSNBC, ESPN, Fox News (fair and balanced!), or three-count them, three--Nickelodeon channels. In the evenings, one of those latter three offered reruns of old television programs such as "Law and Order," "New Adventures of Old Christine," "Big Bang Theory," and, oddly enough, the long-ago-cancelled "Whose Line Is It Anyway." These reruns were often repeated, to the point that I sometimes found myself speaking the dialogue along with the players. Do you want a movie? Prepare to pony up $9.95. Not even a freebie of "It Happened One Night," or "All About Eve." You could, of course, go see something really current like "Mamma Mia" (?!) on the big screen in the Atrium, or maybe "Beyonce's Concert Tour," but I'd already had enough Beyonce on the loudspeakers in the Garden Cafe. And, Oh, the art auctions! I never cease to wonder how, years after their deaths, Picasso and Rembrandt continue to churn out masterpieces. And surely there are enough Peter Max's in the world so that every single human being planet should have at least two. It saddened me to watch folks fork over good money for bad art. Years from now hundreds will be disappointed as they drag this stuff to Antiques Roadshow only to learn that they've acquired schlock. Shame on NCL. Not much to be said for the ports of call. St. Thomas and St. Maarten are wall to wall diamond stores (are diamonds really scarce and precious?). We missed Nassau because of high winds--the compensatory "extra activities" we were promised never materialized. Conclusion: never again. I haven't given up on NCL, on which I've enjoyed many cruises, but I'll not sail on the Epic again. Read Less
