The itinerary attracted us as we had not visited Cannes or Provence before. Our cabin was extremely comfortable with plenty of storage space, Because we were a mixed party the bathroom behind the curtain and the wash basin inside the cabin suited us perfectly, offering privacy when needed. The food was the best we have ever had on any cruise. The Garden room buffet for breakfast and a snack on our return at the end of the day gave a very varied choice and although busy at times we were always able to get a table. Our evening meal we ate in either the Taste or Manhattan dining rooms where the menu and service were both excellent. In spite of the large number of passengers we never waited for a table. The entertainment was of the usual NCL high quality we particularly liked being able to book all the shows from our cabin on screen. This was also useful for checking our account. The only negative was the cost of 15 dollars each transfer bus from ship to town, we have never paid for this service before and the ship was docked too far away to walk. Read Less

Dec 2015 we took a 10 day cruise on the Norwegian Epic. My previous experience was on the Cost Concordia (before it sank) so this would be my comparison. I did have a good time and would possibly return again, there will never be a perfect trip. The 10 days meant that we had some days at sea and it was more relaxing because there was not the hassle of getting up early and going ashore. First impression of Norwegian Cruise company, From booking there was a general lack of information, we ordered a balcony with the drinks and gratuities package, to date I still do not have a breakdown of what the packages cost on top of the price. We sailed from Barcelona, and as there are about 12 docks in Barcelona I had to email Norwegian to find out which one to embark. Previous experience the taxi took us to the wrong dock. First impression of Norwegian Epic. It was no where nearly as nicely decorated as the Concordia, a lot of the colours used where shades of brown. The cabin was a touch narrow so that two people could not pass between the dressing table and bed, this is probably why they manage to fit 4,100 guest on board. There was no bathroom, the shower and toilet were 2 separate plastic cubicles/ pods at each side of the cabin entrance, I hated the wash basin which was mounted on the end of the dressing table near the base of the bed, it had a tall tap/faucet that leaned in to the basin and made it impossible to wash your face over the basin. I like the idea of Free Style cruising which means that there is no set time or table to dine from, there is a choice of about 18 different restaurants that you can choose covering almost the whole day, for example if you fancy a Chinese meal go to the Chinese restaurant. Some restaurants have cover charge so you have to know in advance, we went to Cagney’s one night which was very expensive at €76 for 2 people, considering meals are covered anyway on board. It was a constant battle of wits trying to discover what you do and do not pay for, even though I had the drinks package and could obtain free alcoholic drinks from any of the bar etc., it cost me €6.34 for a ½ litre bottle of water which is not covered, if you take drinks out of the drinks fridge in your room it will cost you. WiFi cost is $125 for 270 minutes or $76 for 110 min. To have a guided tour of the ships facilities will cost $75. To hire an ordinary wheelchair for my wife $260 . TV channels were poor for the English, there were German, French, Spanish, the BBC world service did not cover UK news or weather, there were a few movies in English. There was always some entertainment going on which was excellent, in the theatre, bars, etc, professional stage shows, comedians, magician’s groups’ bands etc much more than the Concordia. There was a recreated Cavern Club, and the Beatles were excellent also. One problem was the theatre was much too small, about ½ the size of the Concordia, necessitating booking in advance to gain entry for any of the shows, we booked 2 shows via the interactive TV in our cabin, only to find that a bug in the system had not in fact booked us, we subsequently turned up at the theatre only to be turned away because of no booking, this happened to our friends also, so we booked at the desk and had to wait a week to see the next shows, fortunately we were on a 10 day cruise, otherwise we would have missed out. We found the shore excursions were very expensive, my tip is do not book, when you go ashore there are lots of companies and taxis that will take you around for less than ½ the excursion price, better still if can arrange a party of 8 people. Although we had a gratuities package, the staff/crew where so good we left tips to be sure that they received it, so next time we will not obtain a gratuities package. Read Less

From 11 Nov. to 18 Nov., my wife and I embarked on the NCL Epic for a cruise in and out Rome. It was a tour package from Penang Malaysia by Emirates Air via Dubai. After a city tour of Rome and visiting the Colosseum, Trevi Fountain & Vatican's St. Peter's Basilica, we arrived at Civitavecchia, where the Epic is berthed. Day 1: 11 Nov. - Rome (Civitavecchia, Italy) We checked into cabin 9254 and had our dinner at the ship's Manhattan Restaurant at 6.00pm. We had a good nite's rest after our luggage were delivered to our room. The cabin was comfortable with ample of storage places in every nook & corner. The long bath & toilet was separate with 2 balcony chairs. There was coffee-making facility, hair blower & pool towels. ( We were fascinated by the towel folding! ) Day 2 : 12 Nov. (Florence & Pisa) We had our b'fast at Garden Cafe (Deck 15) and were surprised at the many buffet counters. At 8.00 am, we disembarked at the port of Livorno and depart for Florence by coach (11/2 hrs). Visited the Duomo, Michaelangelo's David statue & statue of Hercules & Cacus. Visited Gallery of statues & Basilica di Santa Maria del Fiore. (Jeff Koon's golden statue of Pluto & Proserpina was also displayed until Dec.28). Had our lunch at Signoria Square & depart for Pisa. It has been 12 years since I last visited Pisa. Back at the ship, we had our dinner at Manhattan. Day 3 : 13 Nov. ( Cannes - Monte Carlo : Monaco) 8.00 am : After b'fast at Garden Cafe, we disembarked by tender life boats to go ashore. We depart for Monaco. We visited the Fragonard perfume factory. 11.00 am : We arrived at Monte Carlo Casino. Due to coach restrictions, we had to walked 10 minutes to Casino Square. This is the infamous Casino Royale of Ian Fleming's James Bond film. After lunch we paid our respect at Grace Kelly & Prince Rainier's Tombs. We visited Grand Palace grounds of Grimaldi & had a panoramic view of Monte Carlo. On our way back, we visited Cannes Festival of Stars. On the cruise ship, we had buffet dinner at Garden Cafe. After dinner, we watched the musical comedy performance of Priscilla Queen of the Desert. Image of the bus with beautiful backdrops, but lots of foul & bawdy language. Day 4 : 14 Nov. (Palma de Mallorca, Spain) After b'fast, we had the morning free to walk round the ship. At 2.00 pm, we disembarked at Palma de Mallorca port and visited Belver Castle. After that we visited the Almudaina Palace and Cathedral "Le Seu". That nite, after dinner we watched the box office performance of "Burn the Floor" - a very entertaining dance performances of stars! Day 5. : 15 Nov. (Barcelona, Spain) 8.00 am : After we disembarked Norwegian Epic, we depart for Montjuic Hill. Visited Gaudi Park & Sagrada Familia. Had a Spanish lunch of tapas & playa at Marina Bay. After lunch, visited the shopping street of "La Rambas". That nite, after dinner, we watched the Epic's Beatles performance at Epic Theatre. Song of the 60's "Hard Day's Nite", I want to hold your hand", "Love me do" came flashing back to school days' memories - an enjoyable one hour non-stop performance! Day 6 : 16 Nov. ( Cruising at Sea) Free Day - After b'fast, witnessed fruit & vegetable carving, sushi & teppanyaki demonstration and dance class with cast of Burn the Floor. We also had a group tour of the ship. Lunch at Shanghai Restaurant. Formal dinner with wine at Manhattan. Day 7 : 17 Nov. (Naples - Pompeii - Sorento) 8.00 am : City Tour of Naples & proceed to Pompeii. 10.00 am : Arrived at Pompeii site - hidden under 20 ft of ash & cinders after the eruption of Mt. Vesuvius in 79 AD. We could only managed to see the city's baths, villas & theatre due to the constraints of time. It will take the whole day to walk thro' the site! 1.00 pm : Had lunch in Sorento and do some shopping. 4.30 pm : Returned to NCL Epic 6.30 pm : Dinner at Noodle Bar ( more than you can eat!) 10.00 pm : Left luggage outside room Day 8 : 18 Nov. : Rome ( Civitavecchia) - Disembarked Norwegian Epic Cruise Experience : The 7 Days Norwegian Epic Cruise was an unforgettable experience. We had no time to avail ourselves at the many amenities offered. The spectacular shows were very entertaining. The casinos were crowded throughout the nite. Free style crusing and dine where you want is offered by NCL. Complementary restaurants should be enough to whet your appetite. We put on a few kilos after the cruise although we had a hectic off-shore schedule! Read Less

I cannot fault the week I have just had, every member of staff went out of their way to make it special. I think the colour coding of where to find your cabin could have been given to us it was just word of mouth. the cabin was small but enabled 3 of us to empty our cases, storage was great. Entertainment was fabulous would have cost a fortune to see those shows in the west end. Embarkation and disembarkation was very well organised. police patrol for getting taxis was necessary and worked well , the wait was minimum. Port excursions were booked independently and a lot cheaper than on ship. Read Less
