We used Go Puerto Rico. They were waiting for us at the airport with our name on a placard. We stayed in Old San Juan PR the night before we embarked in a small Boutique BNB called 352 Guesthouse run by lovely and helpful people. They scored our luggage until we were ready to go to the port. Fantastic service! Great rooftop area. Old town is like an old European city, cobbled narrow street. Colorful building and “protected” by two walled forts. We chose this cruise for the itinerary even after reading the many poor reviews about the staterooms, food, service and ship overall. We were happy we did. The food and service were great. We experienced The Manhattan room, Cagney’s, Le Bistro, La Cucina and Teppanyaki. All the food was great, but exceptional at Le Bistro and Teppanyaki. The service was exceptional except for Cagney’s where we waited in between courses for a long time, making dinner last more than 2 hours. We saw Burn to the floor which was fantastic. Cirque was good. Priscilla was tired and 1/2 an hour too long (Husband says an hour and a half too long!). Believe the other reviews about the balcony rooms (bathroom especially, small etc.) And when you book make sure the couch is near the front otherwise the sink will be at the foot of the bed. The elevators can be slow at times. The pools are small. No outdoor space other than deck 16. The non-reservable shows have very long lines. We were unable to see Howl at the Moon or Beatles because you had to line up long before the shows start. They should be moved to the Theater. We would like to try a different Norwegian ship but would go again on the Epic if the itinerary was as good as this one. Embarkation: Used Go Puerto Rico again for 8 people. EASY-Peazy! our departure time was 9pm. 8 of us arrived about 3:30 to short lines and quick check-in. BONAIRE: we rented golf cart from Bonairecruiser to self-tour the island. Not a typical tropical Island as it is desert. Saw flamingos. ARUBA: we did NCL De Palm Island. All inclusive. Good excursion. BARBADOS: we did on our own. Took a cab ($5 @ person) to the Boatyard on Carlisle Bay. $25 @ person entry gets a welcome drink, lounger, umbrella, boat excursion to snorkel a ship wreck and titles and stingrays. Well worth the entry fee on its own. Plus your cab back to the ship included ST LUCIA: NCL Segway and beach. Very fun. Easy to learn to do even though we’re in our 60’s. Tour on the way to the beach was narrated by Eddo and very informative. Once at the beach we had fresh fruit before heading to swim at Reduit Beach ( a little crowded). ANTIGUA: Lobster lunch and 2 beaches. Lunch was delish! Beaches were okay. Stick to the beer, the rum punch will sneak up on you! Not sure the price was worth it TORTOLA BVI: NCL Virgin Gorda and the Baths. If you haven’t been go. It’s a little crowded but the two snorkel spots we lovely. Keep in mind it is a rough 40 minute boat ride. A few of our group of 8 were seasick. ST. THOMAS USVI: Coral world and Coki Beach. We used SEG-don’t recommend them. The people in charge of it were unorganized to the point I thought we would get there. One hour late departing for Coral world. Coral world it self was interesting. The snorkeling was the best here for seeing fish. Coki beach was crowded though. Debarkation was a breeze. We stayed 3 nights after, at Isla Verde on the beach at The Courtyard. Lovely pool area. Rooms were large and clean. Enjoyed our stay. Read Less

We (2pp in 30s) cruised with carnival before. We are heavy travelers. We enjoy dining very much. I will compare Norwegian with my past carnival, because Norwegian was more expensive so I expected more with my money, but we were disappointed. We did not purchase special dining so this review is for people who would think the same. Spend min money on boat, max money on shore excursions. Start with bad:(if you think you are okay with these, this cruise is for you) 1. Room is small. (Too small, if you want to go with your kids, Don't, you will hate yourself) We had at B2 family room category(but we are 2pp). If you put luggage on sofa, there is no place to eat or sit in the room. The bed is short too, 180cm tall person had to squeeze to the top otherwise feet is out. The sink is a joke, wash face or hands, water everywhere, because its on the counter beside the TV. (Check room photo). Balcony chair cannot be layed down, sitting position only. Carnival room was big enough to have sofa with a mini table in the room so you can have friends over and sit and chat. 2. Dining is bad. (Again for Complimentary, we didn't felt it would justify to spend 90 usd to have some salty shrimps) The majority people on boat were white elders around 60-70s. Norwegian must be fooling those poor elders. The food tasted salty. Reason? Salty food needs a drink, so they can sell alcohol. A. Buffet- they have different themes of buffet every night, but that just the names. The dishes were almost the same every night and selection is limited. No shrimp for all 11 nights. 1 thin fish dish per night. Carnival buffet is what the main dining has for the night (except lobster) but just not pretty. Carnival had shrimps and more fish dishes and more meats on buffet. B. Main dining- bread was cold!!!!! same classic main meals, only change chef special every night, but salty salty salty. (Talked to crew members, they said when they sometimes had leftovers, salty too). No shrimps no lobster for 11 night!!!! I couldn't believe it, carnival menus changes every night and also had 2 nights with lobster and every night there is a shrimp dish and all complementary. Norwegian wants you to pay pay pay. C. Shanghai dining (included). This Chinese restaurant taste is just bad. We travelled alot and sometimes we might have a higher expectations on food, but we met some Korean folks(also from Toronto), they said the same thing. They said the same thing. D. Stateroom delivery (24hr), not free either. All delivery comes with 9.95 service charge and gratuity. Carnival is free. E. Alcohol are expensive. I know people usually purchase their drink package (700 CAD for 2 for the cruise) but that only covers drinks below 10? (I could be wrong but there is a limit), gratuity 20% extra. 3. Pool deck smoking area. Designated smoking area is right beside the pool (deck 15). Oh man, that smoke is blowing everywhere if you want to spend sometime beside the pool. Bad for non-smokers and kids. 4. Cruise director (Clay). This guy had no passion on announcement. I mean he literally was reading off the script. Clay also disappeared after day 5? Never heard him again. You be the judge on this one. 5. App function limited. The app does not show any dining menu and booking any shows must be done as soon as you are on boat day 1, otherwise is all booked. 6. Pay pay pay everywhere. Even with the drink package and dining package, the pricing structure will ensure people have a big bill at the end. Free food sucks so you need to spend money on expensive special dining, and you found food are salty so you want a drink other than water. $$$$$$$ way to go Norwegian. 7. Racism against Chinese. Recent announcement from Norwegian said anyone holding Chinese honkong Macau passport not allowed on boat (due to coronavirus), but this includes the crew members too!!!!! A. Decision not fact based. Holding Chinese passport does not equal contracting virus. Norwegian thinks passport contains virus, not the people travelled to China. Some permeant resident of Canada never been to China for years were banned. B. Some crew members were chinese on this cruise. They were banned too. they signed and were serving their 8 month contract with Norwegian and now they are banned? Those guys never left the boat for 5 months and also worked so hard every day (we all see that). Now you turn your back on your employee just because they hold a certain passport? Unreal. Now, if you thinks above were acceptable and I will discuss the good. 1. Room sound proof was good. Pretty quite throughout the cruise. Hardly hear neighbors. 2. The stops were good. This was the main reason we chose this cruise. Aruba Bonaire and Curacao. 9 stops for 11 nights. 3. Main dining has 2 person tables. So you don't have to sit with strangers. More private. 4. Boat is Morden and clean. 5. Nice gym. All sorts of equipment and cleaned every day. Conclusion. We are not going to sail with Norwegian ever again, because the food taste bad and don't want to starve again. The way they treat their employees during tough time sickens us. Of course I am sure Norwegian doesn't care about us. Their target customers are old elders who cannot eat alot or eat well and can be easily fooled. I was counting days when I was on the boat. If you are 30s-50s, take carnival. People see carnival as party boat, but if you stay at that spacious balcony, no noise at all. Plus, you will eat well and healthy. Read Less

Why when booking the Air-Included Package would they place the "two" individuals traveling together in different rows and completely apart from one another on the airplane? This situation was "only" corrected by contacting the airlines and paying EXTRA for adjoining seats... WHY? WHY? WHY? After the original booking, I noticed on-line that the "exact" same cruise that I had booked, offered a 'reduced' price? Upon a lengthy discussion with NCL, I was "given" an up-grade. This room ended-up being a balcony room, as was originally booked. The room was near the end of a dead-end hall and on the 14th deck. As mentioned in a previous review, our telephone light, likewise, 'flashed' for the entire eleven days! I basically have NO COMPLAINTS in regards to our room steward or any of the other ship's personnel. The embarkation a-l-w-a-y-s seems to be a disaster due to 4,000 individuals on-board! WHY cannot NCL 'stagger' its embarkation with a number or color-coded tags? This appears to work well for the airlines. However, this needs to be enforced! The Internet package, which was included, was most confusing! After several attempts to talk with the Internet 'specialist,' it still did not work! Thankfully, we did not purchase a larger package! The waits for the elevator were e-x-t-r-e-m-e-l-y long and m-a-n-y times, they exceeded the weight limit! Under the circumstances considering a possible Norovirus out-break and the new 'scare' of the Coronavirus, the foods in the buffet should have been served by the crew from day 'one!' Instead, the first few days, the foods were self-serve and without any explanation this changed to the food being served by the staff. This continued until the last day and it was switched-back to like it was in the first few days. Did this mean that NCL no longer cared about its passengers once they were about to leave the ship? As for the entertainment, it left a lot to be desired, in comparison to our other cruises with NCL. For one thing, the sixteen-year-age-limit certainly should have been eighteen-years-of-age! Several of the shows appeared to cater more to the minority of the passengers than to the majority! 'Burn The Floor' was more than exceptional! While we will, no doubt, choose to travel with NCL in the future, we will be more selective in our choice of ships and entertainment. Read Less

My wife and I are very experienced with over 25 cruises. Overall, we enjoyed this cruise very much and would recommend it noting the below issues. Pros * variety and quality of on board musical entertainment. Also, many different locations. * Very positive staff attitudes. Almost everyone greets you with a smile. * Ship is kept very clean - everywhere we could see. * Great itinerary. Wide variety of experiences in many different ports. Cons * Ship needs updating - old furniture, etc. * very funky/different balcony stateroom layout (be warned). * A large number of the gym equipment is in need of repair or replacement. * Main pool area is greatly undersized - one small bar and limited open area. Wide number and variety of ports was the key point in why we selected this cruise, but we have been on the Epic twice before and enjoy this ship. Read Less

I am a Platinum Member with NCL and am struggling with what is wrong with them. I hope it was just the Epic, but I am not really sure as it may be fleet wide. This was the worst cruise I have ever experienced and it all centered around services paid for were not given and NO ONE at NCL was willing to address that they dropped the ball and fix the problem. We were traveling with NCL Air a day early to San Juan to the El Caribe Hilton. Which could've been great if I experienced it from more than a few hours of sleep. Due to weather we missed our connecting flight to San Juan, which was not NCL's fault. We had to arrive 12 hours late at 1am in the morning. I called NCL Air and the "Emergency" Help Line. Well NCL did not care. The Help line is only open during business hours Monday - Friday. Reread the last sentence and think what is wrong with that policy? I did get someone from NCL on the phone who argued with me about being picked up at the airport for the hotel. She said, "No way you can get picked up at 1am" - and "we don't pick up from the airport". I know from past experience both were incorrect, but she had NO clue. Surprise when we arrived at the airport someone was there to pick up someone for NCL just not us. This was rather upsetting considering how much we had paid for this service. WARNING - They roll everything into one package price so you can't get a refund on what they do not provide to you!! (This is what I come to understand) We Ubered to the hotel and found that the Hotel knew who I was, but had no information about the pickup and transport to the ship (in a few hours at 2am in the morning). Not even that a pickup would even occur. Our info on the letter from NCL said "we would be provided this information upon arrival at the hotel". We are still waiting? We called the Emergency number and guess what - CLOSED till 8am EST - 9am where we were. I called at that time and got a gentleman on the phone who still didn't understand the problem or seem to care. He did eventually call the transportation company and said someone will be there at 10:30am. So I went and found the lady in charge of transportation and guess what I was not on the list to be transported. Seems like NCL would've already check that? I had a boarding pass with all the fees paid but someone did not put us on the list so, no one knew to pick us up. (I assume it was NCL since they will not tell me otherwise) She guaranteed that she would've been there at 2am to pick us up but we were not on the list. I got a copy of the list to verify (which did no good. So we had to still Uber to the port and tried to deal with the issue for an entire 10 day cruise. Made 5 lengthy trips to the Hotel Desk and got a different response each time. Was told - "you didn't pay for it"; "The travel agent didn't pay for it", "Your boarding pass was incorrect" and 'finally we can't do anything on the ship because it happened on land". I was given a card to email NCL when home and guess what - received a form letter letting me know how many years of great service they have provided. Well guess what for 10 days they basically made my vacation a task of trying to find out WHAT I paid about $600 for? They were terrible at customer service. Ruined the whole 11 day vacation for me. NO ONE EVER SAID. "We are sorry, we made a mistake. What can we do to make things right. This could've solved everything on the 1st phone call to the Miami Office and on every encounter for well over 10 days. Unfortunately, I do already have the same services paid from on the Getaway in Europe in June. I am actually concerned now that I will be left at the airport in Rome again and no one from NCL will care and of course no help line on European time. I am in charge of that CC Meet and Mingle certainly would expect to be treated at least fairly or it will be a very interesting Meet and Mingle for sure. Due to this issue it was the worst cruise of our lives. Spent hours waiting in line and making phone calls and NEVER found anyone from NCL that actually cares. We have two more NCL cruises already booked, but seriously are considering changing to another line that will accept our Platinum Status and treat us fairly and with respect. One last shot in June - Then I can let you know. Sorry if this was boring to anyone. But if it were to happen to you, you would probably feel differently. Thanks, for reading. Caveat Emptor We did not see San Juan this time - due to the flight delay. Though it is a great port. All the other ports were good. We loved Bonaire - so glad we went sailing and snorkeling there. We really only went on the Epic this time due to the itinerary. It was not worth the trade off. Had constant problems two years ago on the Epic and spent a lot of time at the Hotel Desk then too. We have never complained about anything on ANY OTHER ship. Embarkation was done in a way to remove our Platinum Status. We were told in writing to not come prior to 1pm or we would be on the street waiting. So, surprise they were letting 1st time cruisers on the ship at 10:30. This was done on purpose. So what do we get for Platinum???.. A chance to have the Posh Deck sold out to first time cruisers is what. The EPIC is a very dark and dismal ship. The cabins have no storage at least our aft balcony did not. Did a cabin crawl and found that the Haven Cabin and Studios were wonderful. But in the other, there is no light in the aft cabin - you will need a flashlight if you want to shave or put on makeup. I think the interior rooms have more light. The weird Bathroom configuration is not a problem to us. The bed however, is not made for anyone taller than 5'10" - You can't pull it out from the wall in this room or you can't walk in front of it to get to the bathroom. You will have to sleep sideways. There was a problem with the phones on almost the whole ship were the message light flashed for the whole cruise. Everyone was asking for it to stop. They could not stop it. So you never new if you had a message as you always had a message and the way to turn off the flashing orange light was to cover with a towel. Dining in the Specialty Restaurants is very good except on the 2nd time in Le Bistro I had to sit on a bench that was worn out - The table was just below shoulder level. I told the manager and he either did not care or does not understand English. The 1st meal was great and with great service. The rest of the specialty restaurants were all 5 stars. Love Cagney's. The Taste has really POOR actually unacceptable service. We had to ask the manager to get the waitress to take our drink order for dinner. Breakfast will take you over an hour - don't order an Omelette they will tell you it will take even longer. The breakfast staff was pleasant, but it should not take 1 hour to sit and eat eggs and toast. Did this twice same time. The food is okay if you can get it. The Great Outdoors Area is great if it doesn't rain. If it does there is a mad dash inside and you will find NO Place to sit and eat if you can even get to the buffet. So breakfast on the Epic can and will be a problem. Found that a different days there was NO coffee 2 days and 1 day No coffee cups. I don't mean they had to go get some. There was NO Coffee cups available. When the coffee was out, it was out from two machines for all of breakfast. Oshean's is a good place to eat and we found it was much less crowded. Advice let the other stand and wait at Taste - go there. We enjoyed the Magician and the Juggler onboard. The comedy we saw was really not that funny, but it was okay. Priscilla is a walk out, a waste of time. They have the Beatles, But if you want to see them in the Cavern, you will have to camp out all day like a new Iphone is being released. There is NO ROOM in the CAVERN. They do perform a couple of times on the big stage. They are okay, but not a great cover band. The musicians that we witnessed around the ship seemed to always start late and take their breaks early. So there was a lot of silence in the bars and public areas. This was really not a good experience. Our room steward was excellent. The laundry was excellent. The bartenders at the Maltings Bar were as good as any on any ship. The bartenders at the Posh seemed to be hiding in the kitchen most of the time. At times if there is inclement weather you will find that they will not open up bars below on the ship. You will just be out of luck. Disembarkation was actually very good. I would not take this cruise on the EPIC for any price ever again. I WILL NOT SAIL ON THIS DISMAL, POORLY RUN SHIP EVER AGAIN. Though the itinerary was awesome, you should at least have great service and get what you pay for! It is easy to provide customer service when everything is going well, however on this ship, when something went very wrong - NO ONE WAS WILLING TO DEAL WITH IT. Vacations are times to rest, not to try to get what you have paid for the entire vacation and even weeks after. I am extremely displeased with how we were treated. Caveat Emptor - Beware - you take this ship, but sail at your own risk as there will be little to no help if they screw up your vacation!!! Read Less

We were taking my mother-in-law on her first cruise, and my husband’s great aunt on her first cruise since 1980. (She’s 87, so we had to pay more attention to accessibility and other concerns than we normally do - she’s totally mobile, but has some vision issues.) We wanted to check out some new islands, and this seemed like the perfect relaxing itinerary. Getting to the ship was challenging, as Royal also had an Oasis ship in port. But, once we got there, embarkation was a breeze. The Epic is a lovely ship, and the crew was outstanding. The food was excellent, and the entertainment great! My only real beef with the ship is the lack of access to the water. Most of the windows are in areas not generally accessible to passengers, such as dining rooms, duty free areas, and crew areas. The only places you can actually be outside to look at the water are in two small gaps between the lifeboats on deck 7 (the jogging track and the shuffleboard area), the top sun deck, and your own balcony. There is no access to see the water fire or aft. My beef with NCL is over door decorations. Normally we don’t bother, but with an 87yo with macular degeneration, we had two 6” round magnets that stuck flush to the door, to help her find our cabin and her own out of 2000 identical doors. We were asked to take them down, which is ridiculous. Some people go way overboard, but really? Ours was functional, not decorative. Due to rough weather, we had two port changes. I was impressed with NCL’s ability to quickly change based on circumstance, and they were even able to pull together a reasonable group of shore excursions in both Martinique and Guadeloupe, which are not among their normal ports of call. Really, kudos to the staff on board and at HQ for doing their best to keep us safe and entertained. Debarkation was a bit of a cluster. Self-disembarking passengers were supposed to be released at 6, but they couldn’t go until 6:50. We had tags for 8:15, and weren’t released until 9. Wasn’t an issue for us as our flight wasn’t until 3, but not sure what the holdup was - the ship docked at just after 4am. Read Less

Chose this cruise for the ports and excursions. First day had to find our luggage and requested an extension cord for my CPAP. Told to come and get it at guest services, cord was too short and would need to find a longer one. Cabin Steward found one for us. Ship is an older one and was listed as having renovation in 2015, was told only the carpets were changed. Cabin, very small and tight for two people, We had a balcony room. Dinning was good and so was the food. Serving staff was good. Entertainment was good only problem was some of the entertainment you were required to have a dinner in order to see the activity. Nowhere in the listing was this mentioned. As for the ports, we found all were good accept St. Lucia. We took the Diamond Falls tour. One long bus ride to see the falls which didn't look like anything listed in the NCL website. One short stop in a fishing village and the second stop after the falls was a lookout point and a restaurant were you were provided with a fruit drink and able to buy a chicken meal, this stop was allowed only 15 minutes. All of the other excursions were good and we enjoyed the UTV excursion in Aruba, this was outstanding. With what we know now, I strongly recommend that you don't expect an outstanding ship. The customer service desk is lacking in concern with your problems and you will need to pursue your concerns with a higher ranking member of the crew. The major problem is the muster drill. This took place at 10:00 PM and lasted for one hour. Everyone was tired and the children were extremely tired and should not have had this drill at the hour. Read Less

People reserving deck chairs very early in the morning even though not used in alot of cases until late morning or early afternoon. NCL di d not enforce the 1 hour reserve chair rule even after complaints from passengers. The food top deck was bad and no change in menue same old same every day. Runny eggs and greesey bacon for breakfast. Long lines top deck for the bar taking as much as 20 minutes to get a drink. Top deck di d not have enough chairs to accommodate the number of people on board. Lounge entertainment was almost non existent except for a guy with a geutair. This was my seventh cruise with NCL and my second on the Epic. I find that every time I travel with NCL my opinion of them decreases. I believe NCL should be advertised as a family and children friendly cruise line and discourage adults without children, or who are not in their 20s from travelling with them. On this trip to the Caribbean there were many unsupervised children - they were throwing food, changing the signage on the cabin doors (to do not disturb so the cabins didn't get made up), swimming in the hot tubs, throwing stuff overboard, and screaming at one another across the balconies, to name a few things. Parents seemed happy to ignore these activities. The 20 year olds weren't much different, getting seriously drunk and screaming at each other, and occupying the hot tubs for hours at time without letting others in. The food was good but on several occasions (especially during breakfast) our orders were incorrect (missing and incorrect food items). Cagney's was quite good though. On the second sea day we were up on deck at 830 and there were no chairs to be had, as people had set there stuff down and even though they did not occupy their seats for hours the did leave their towels on chairs so as to let others know they were theirs. We had the 'free' drinks package which was handy and the bar service was very good. Our cabin was very cramped and I did not like the frosted glass bathroom as it was obvious what was going on in there - and the frosted glass offered little soundproofing. The sink is also in the main cabin which can make washing a bit challenging if travelling with friends. The Epic is not very wheelchair friendly making access to the Taste dining room quite difficult as one of the two sets of elevators does not go to the fifth floor where it is located. Also included in our package was 250 minutes of 'free' wifi. While I thought this would be useful to stay in touch with family, there were so many people on board using wifi that it would take up to 5 minutes for a webpage to load, if it loaded at all. So I image of the time I spent using the wifi plan, I probably spent 20 minutes on the internet, the rest was 'page loading' or 'this page cannot be displayed' time. As we have experienced previously, the customer service from the guest services staff is terrible. There was a charge on our account that we did not make and we went to guest services to address it. The gentleman at guest services was rude and basically said it wasn't his problem. We've had previous problems with NCL guest services, including being yelled at for completing a guest survey they didn't like about the spa services. One of our stops was to Great Stirrup Cay which is an NCL owned island (I assume). We tendered over which took approximately 45 minutes from waiting for the tender, boarding hundreds of people and disembarking. The area was nice but the water was challenging to get around in due to the rocky bottom. Lunch was provided there but the lineup was giant. We did not wait for food but we were told by another guest that he waited 45 minutes for his tacos. The entertainment was okay but as we'd travelled on the cruise before we had seen all of the shows. The Beatles, Burn the floor, Pricilla were all repeats of the cruise we took a year ago. However, Pricilla was still pretty good. I do think they could add a few more games (trivia etc) and perhaps some new shows as there wasn't much going on that didn't require an extra fee. While I have enjoyed NCL over the years, I think it's time to move up to a more adult-friendly cruise line. I am not a big fan of having food thrown at me or listening to screaming children or drunken college kids while on vacation. Read Less

You cannot get to the dining rooms without going all the way down to the forward elevator and then all the way to the back. Why put a restaurant in the middle of the ship that goes all the way across. The same was true of the casino. Never again. Food was good. As was the entertainment. It was just too noisy. The pools were too crowded. Towels laying everywhere but hardly anyone sitting there. The stewards were ok. Not great. Couldn’t engage in a conversation. 2 days room was never touched. It seemed that there was not enough staff to bus the tables as people left. The food was great as was the service once you had a table. A reservation was needed for everything right down to the tenders, not exactly my idea of freestyle.lines were long for everything.the room was poorly laid out and way too small. Even though smoking was prohibited on balcony, this didn't seem to apply to my neighours and continued even after my complaint to guest services.at 5his point the money spent on the balcony($1,000.00) was completely wasted.had a very unpleasant encounter with a member of the security staff over 2 small bottles diet coke which after a few rude comments he grabbed from my hand and threw into the trash. I didn't feel that this was a suitable way to treat my personal property. If it had been rum they would have held it and returned it at the end of the trip. His supervisor didn't seem to have a problem with his attitude or his actions.next time we will return to princess. Read Less

Didn't like the food on the buffet. Everything had the same taste. Had to wait longer to get on boat, Shows where good though. Casino shut down alot, Elevators are unreal. You have to wait a long time to get on one. Most time passed our floor after we pushed botton .so we had to use stairs alot. We are senior so wasnt to happy about that. Like Carnival cruise way better. Food was better for sure. We only waited 1/2 to load. Got our suitcases sooner. Never waited more that a min. ofr a elevator. To many drunks on board. Shoulnt open bars till at least lunch time. Lot people dont drink and we get tried of all the drunks that early. My paper for my tip wasnt delivered till MIDDLE night or by 7 am morning we left. Then i got it up on tv. You already took it out. I would of never tipped.. At least on carnival you go to a computer and do it the night before yourself . Didn't hear the first day about fire alarm drill. seen everybody going somewhere when we ask where they said all boat was to meet. We never heard it then when we got there it was just over. Then next day we where given a time on our paper to be there at 11:00 am. We went to the island at 10:00 We where on vacation was ;not taking time from vacation to do a drill. Should of had that while we where all waiting to get our suitcases. and it should been on our beds and announced so we would of heard it. When in our rooms we couldn't hear any announcements. We didn't need reservation to see a show on our carnival cruise. It was first come first show. Not enough seat in th aluim place. We had to stand for all the shows. Even got there 1/2 early. Need more seating. Defiantly would go with Carnival next time. only second cruise we took but Carnival was way better. Other people thought same as us on many items above. Read Less

We wanted to try the Haven experience and the Epic sails out of Port Canaveral only two hours from our home. Out of 26 cruises with many cruise lines this was our first with NCL. The Haven is great. Everything is very convenient and the personal care from the concierge and butler was fantastic. Escorted us on board and straight to lunch in the Haven. We did have to join a long line to board the ship, but once off the escalator we had a short priority line to a Haven waiting area that had coffee and snacks. Once checked in it was straight to the Haven while our cabin was cleaned. Escorted us to the Cirque of Dreams show, and led us to our table. Escorted us to the tender boats with priority boarding. Special seating in the theater as long as you were there at least 10 minuets prior to show starting. Sometimes priority elevator service. Read Less

norweigian is my favorite cruise line. the Epic is a very differant set up from other norweigian ships. at first i did not like it, but after 14 days i got used to it. it felt very closed in at first. my solo cabin was good as usual, except for doors on closets, they had been removed, was not happy about that. .. my room stewart was very good, room was kept up and he was very quick at getting thing i needed. the food in compimentary restaurants was ok, i got tired of menu after week one. the irish pub food was good, the wings were great, need to be tried. they did not bring out extra chairs in the atuim for shows and games, people had to stand or get there very early, other norweigian ships have had extra chairs brought out. the shows i went to were very good, Burn the Floor was very good, a must see. Percilla queen of the desert was awesome i saw it twice and almost went a third time.. the service in restaurants was very good especially as we were usually a very large group the bar service was exceptinal, Valentine, and Vlhadamir, kept us well supplied.. i really enjoyed all my excusions, dunn falls was wonderful, blue lagoon was great, the only disappointment was passion island in cozamel, there were not enough loungers foe everone, we were second tender there and there were none left, only plastic molded ones on the sand, and the food was included, and there was only mexican food, so the lady with me couldnt eat as she cannot eat that kind of food. i really enjoyed this ship overall, ad would definalty sail on her again Read Less

We chose the Epic after cancelling a cruise on her last year due to the size of the ship. We are senior citizens and DH has mobility issues and I was afraid it would be too big. We wanted to go out of Florida, but didn't want to drive to Miami. Went out of Tampa last year on the Jade. In talking with our PCC at NCL I ended up booking the Haven on the Epic for 2/10-17/2018. I felt at least we would have available to us most of the things we needed in a smaller area. We had never sailed in a Haven room before. Good points: easy embarkation, nice room, beautiful Haven area. We were told the Epic had the best Haven and I certainly feel it was all I expected. Staff was wonderful. Everyone remembered your name after meeting you once. Service at the pool and in the restaurant was excellent. Bad points: We had a 2 bedroom suite on 17 and the restaurant, lounge, pool, etc were all on 16. Elevator availability was horrible. You could wait up to 10 minutes for one during busy times. Absolutely hated having to make reservations to go to a show. On the smaller ships you could go with how you felt, early eating, late show or early show, later eating. Not here. We had to make reservations ahead of time, then when we looked at the daily events we ended up missing things we would have liked to do because they conflicted. So much easier on the smaller ships to do more. Butler's vary and we have been in suites before and had better ones, and worse ones. Did not get items we requested as snacks. Seemed to be the usual rotation but those fishy canapes are gross. Told him not to bring them, but they showed up anyway. Concierge was present to help with getting on and off the ship, especially at tender ports but told us at disembarkation that there would be a special customs line once we had picked up our luggage. Girl he told us to go to said "NO" and we were put into a long line that snaked around the building about 4 times. Again, DH is mobility challenged. By the time we got outside it was all he could do to get to a bench and sit. If I had known how it ended up I would have requested a wheelchair. Bottom line: Probably will never go on the Epic again, just too big. Haven was nice but I know the Haven on the small ships is not as complete and probably would not spend the money for it. A suite and spa pass will do just fine. Love NCL but prefer smaller ships where free style is really free style and reservations are only needed in special dining. Read Less

It was a cruise for my wife’s birthday, and it was her first cruise ever. The service was the best, the restaurants were excellent, the entertainment was first rate, all the ships activities were fun and enjoyable, the speciality dining was the absolute the best with the best waiters and waitresses.our cabin was like a 5 star hotel.......champagne and chocolate covered strawberries.I think that one of the most important features of the cruise was that we did’nt know where everything was located and when we asked everyone was so polite and eager to assist us on where it was and how to get there. When you went ashore everything ran smoothly without any waiting or other problems.Their own private island was fantastic with the soft white sand, great lunch and plenty of cold drinks...oh yes,the water was great also!! Overall,I would say that this is by far the best vacation that we’ve ever been on,we felt like we were royalty and there is no doubt that we were treated like royalty!! Read Less

Chose this cruise because we like Norwegian and it was going out of a port we could drive to. Overall we had a good time and were satisfied with the cleanliness and courtesy of the crew. Biggest disappointment was the Cagney's Steak. We ordered medium and got bloody rare with such a cold baked potato the butter would not melt. I think we got someone else's order and they offered to fix it but service was so slow and we had been seated over 90 minutes. Went from there to the buffet for hot food. The Le Bistro was Fantastic. A must for all. Moderno was also wonderful with the food and the service. Cabin was OK but curtain needs to incorporate the sink. Cabin steward Wilson was great, prompt with requests. Elevator service was not bad and we really enjoyed the Thermal Suite. Too many people and venues not large enough to handle them. Had to make reservations for the free shows, for the Comedy shows, for the tenders, for the complimentary restaurants. Epic Theater was on one level where other ships had 2 balconys up. If you don't have reservations you are invited to stand in a long line and hope that some will not show up. The show we did see was spectacular and we heard the others were as well. Casino should install ventilation to the outside since to get anywhere on that deck you must walk through a very smokey casino. Drinks were very expensive and not that good. Too cold for the pools and hot tubs on deck 15 and the Spice 2o. Great day at the beach for relaxing at the private island. Disappointed and upset over all the reservations so that it ties you in to certain times and we found ourselves always checking the clock. Read Less

We really enjoy NCL for its food service and shows, but this ship has squashed our positive feelings, let me explain. The ship holds 4000 plus passengers, mostly heavy drinkers and casino addicts on this cruise, but that was not the problem. The design of the ship is not passenger friendly. Firstly the balcony cabins are small, with a huge uncomfortable to sit on sofa bed occupying much of the space in addition to the beds in this cramped space. The bathroom is another issue. On one side of the door to the cabin is a phone booth size shower stall, and the toilet is on the other side in a similar stall. The tiny sink is located about 6 feet away next to the closet in the cabin- and I mean tiny. More importantly there is not enough seating in the show room, or in the atrium area where many activity are held. These are simply nice chairs but there are not enough of them. Activities there attract a lot of guests, most of whom must stand. The cavern club where great music takes place holds less than 100 people- again very few chairs. The comedy club fails in the same way. We were also disgusted by their "dueling Pianos" that for one show featured two improvising drunks begging for drinks or tips, or in the second show a screetching girl player and the worse drunk.Crowded, but not for long. There was a lack of band music to dance to, and the large Bliss lounge was underused, mostly saved for drunken karaoke singers. If you do not buy the drink package be prepared to pay 9 dollars for a beer, and 12 for a mixed drink. They will not allow you to bring on board a bottle of wine, or bottled water- 3bucks to buy it there. This ship is a real negative for NCL, so avoid it. I have been on 30 plus cruises- I know a dog when I see it. Read Less

My review of the December Epic cruise: FOOD - Most of the restaurants (except I was disappointed in O'Sheehan's - terrible food!!!) served very good food. Although, I was disappointed at times because the food wasn't served as hot as expected. In general the serving staff at the restaurants were great. I especially liked the dinner in The Manhattan Room and the breakfasts at Taste. The Garden Cafe buffet was "tolerable" but left much to be desired since I lot of the food was pre-prepared. I saw them dump reconstituted eggs from a carton and nearly vomited!. DRINKS: The bars were very good and so many! I was on the "unlimited beverage package" (got a real deal on it!). I'm not a big drinker but to be able to have a mimosa at breakfast, a margarita at lunch (and on the upper deck) and wine at dinner (even one or two at the dance party) and know that I'm not paying any extra WAS GREAT! I also was impressed that the bartenders made strong drinks. And if I asked for extra alcohol (tequila, vodka, rum) the bartender didn't hold back! ENTERTAINMENT: The shows I saw were anywhere from "very good" to "great." My two favorites were "Burn The Floor" (unbelievable dance moves) and "Priscilla, Queen of the Desert." I saw "Priscilla" on Broadway (NYC) and the show on the Epic was just as good. I thought they might do a shortened version but they didn't! I later saw a couple of the lead actors up on the sunning deck and told them how well they did. He was very polite and humble, saying thank you... then asked me what kind of drink I had. Chatting, friendly and not caught up in himself. The magician, Christian Miro, was good, too... but I'm not much of a magic guy. CABIN: I've already written below what I think of the solo cabins - WONDERFUL IDEA. In addition to great price (for a single man like me) I would add that having the solo cabins in a special locked area is a wonderful thing. We "solos" had our own lounge, bar/bartender, coffee machine (espresso was GREAT) and our own "coordinator/concierge". It makes it so much easier to meet others that way. Many times small groups of people would be sitting together drinking coffee or a drink and talking. On my last cruise (2014) I met several people that I had a great time with. My disappointment this time was that the "coordinator" was not as good as the one in 2014. He did not put any great effort in making sure we were getting acquainted, like the guy in 2014 who was SUPER. I was highly disappointed that this time they did not offer the option of signing up on a list for going out to dinner the next night. This was one of the major reasons why some of us "clicked" on the last cruise. When asked this time, the coordinator said, "We don't do that anymore!" Very disappointing!!! SHORE EXCURSIONS: The two I went on (The Caves/Baths at Virgin Gorda & The Tiki glass bottom boat trip in St. Thomas) were well worth it. I especially had fun on the Tiki. Great guys as crew and a wonderful time at the private beach. Unfortunately, I was too sunburned to get off at Great Stirrup Cay but I hear from others it was "the best" place of the whole trip. ONBOARD EXPERIENCE: Yes, the ship is big but I was able to navigate the elevators and stairs well. The only part I did not like was the casino area. Very noisy and smoke filled. I really couldn't believe that they allow for smoking onboard the ship! EMBARKING/DEBARKING: Although there were long lines (I hate lines!!!) they moved fast. I think making a reservation time for boarding is a very good idea. That, more than the exiting, was done very efficiently. PORT CANAVERAL: I really liked the experience in Cocoa Beach (stayed overnight because I always go a day early in case delay in flight) was very good. The Marriott Courtyard had a great deal for one night stay PLUS transportation (only $40 for round trip to Orlando airport). I give kudos to Cocoa Beach Shuttle (used by several hotels) for their great drivers and on-time schedule. I was picked up at airport within minutes and, once back to Port Canaveral, the van was waiting for us within minutes. In general, I think the Norwegian Line is great! Clean, efficient and cost effective for a single guy like me. I had a great time except for the weather in the first couple of days. But that's not Norwegian's fault. And, of course, I could have done without the sunburn (I feel asleep on the sunning deck). All in all: A VERY NICE TRIP! Read Less

The port canaveral operation needs a manager to organize their operation. Right now it is a mess. Taxis & shuttles lined up to pay entry fees. Very poor oversight, I'd fire someone. The cruise lines should demand improvement right now. Once in NCL'S domaine, at pier 10, all went smooth & easy. Not a pretty ship. To me it looks like a barge with a hotel stuck on top. Well maintained, smart, clean interior decor. Smiling staff who are doing their very best, which is more than I could do considering some of the nasty people, "guests", they have to put up with. 4000 polite, normal guests, & a few mouthy morons who expect everything but are impolite, loud, cheap, ignorant slobs who demand something for nothing. This ship has the best entertainment afloat. Every venue offers top notch, quality performances. We really enjoyed the shows & the bands. All venues were filled to capacity & really rocked. 60, 70, & 80 year olds just mov'n & a shake'n. EPIC BEATTLES!, piano bar, Broadway shows, & Cirque! Something for everyone, really enjoyed every offering. After the dull 27 days aboard a HAL ship, this was a very welcome change. I don't know how anyone wouldn't rave about the food aboard NCL ships. They always seem to pay particular attention to PRESENTATION. Everything looks good. Every offering tasted good to me, but, I especially enjoyed the Dover Sole. Best I've evere had. Steaks were done as requested. I have a reaction to MSG & so I worry when I find beef served up especially tender...no problems with NCL...I love it. To each their own...NCL suits me. Read Less

Embarkation for a wheel chaired person was a joke. There were none at the curb, and an elevator ride and a long walk to the check in area was the only way to begin the journey. With an excuse that they were "short of wheel chairs that day" we were entered on a list of names whereby we had to compete with those who walked up and grabbed on to the first available person with no regard for the people waiting for their turn. NO ONE from Norwegian made an effort to co-ordinate this. Much too busy looking past you and making excuses. We entered the ship on deck 7 with and waited 45 minutes for an elevator to take you to the buffet on 15th deck as the room was not ready. Finally get some food and half way through comes the announcement to go to our muster stations. After the same elevator fiasco we arrive on the 6th deck at our assigned area. The person who was to record our attendance had left the area before the instruction started so we spent the next 2 days being hounded to make our mandatory meeting. Finally get to the room and find out a mini suite had a bed, a settee that served as an uncomfortable seating area, as well as the only place to set a tray of food to eat from. Pitiful lay out and not enough room for 2 people to pass any where in the "suite". The lay out was done to maximize efficient lay out with no regard to comfort or entertaining guests. We had a family group of 6 cabins and were not able to gather in the cabins and share a drink as there is no place to set the drinks or the people. Worst layout I have ever seen. This ship was understaffed and under supplied. Room steward had no coffee to leave the 2nd day as they "hadn't received any yet". Couldn't get wash cloths replaced when the room was made up because they didn't have any until late in the day??? Most of the staff encountered were not overly friendly or informed, and understaffed at all points where service was required. The WiFi on board did not function properly. Not one single malt scotch was included in the drink package. All available at an up-charge of course. If you have not cruised before and have no expectations you may enjoy. But for me, No more Norwegians. Read Less

And it gets better at the restaurants, REAL GOOD FOOD. I was enchanted by the French and oriental restaurant. The circus, Ice bar, Irish bar, karaoke, white parties, and Latino nights at the cruise are a very good choice for night live. Shopping: There's a lot of special offers on board for buying jewelry, watches, if you are shopper. Destinations to Jamaica, grand caiman islands and Cozumel are marvelous. We took the Ocho rios tour and got to enjoy the waterfalls and Jamaica's beach with a good beer. Cozumel and Caiman Islands were the best, we took a ride at some jet skies and got to enjoy Cozumel's vibrant blue ocean, goooooosh! Te best!
