We arrived a day earlier to explore Barcelona , Spain. The cruise was average at best. We have been on several cruises with different cruise lines. This ship was okay , but the entertainment was not that great. The food was average. The staff was pretty good. The shore excursions seemed overpriced. We decided to do our own exploring in every port. We found it real easy to get around on our own. Also because of the weather we could not reach Naples Italy. There was basically an oh well attitude among staff in regards to us not getting to Naples. The entertainment on board was below par for a ship of this size. The dining rooms were large .There was a large variety of foods. The problem was that we seemed to have the same menu every other day. Our cabin steward Elton was the lone bright spot on an otherwise ho hum cruise. He was great at his job. My wife's suitcase was damaged by the staff while bringing it on board ship . When i went to customer service the initial response was read the fine print we really don't have to replace it. After some back and fort they finally found her a replacement suitcase that was smaller than her original one . I'm not sure if we will sail with Norwegian again. Read Less

Wow what a ride the winds changed from 50 knots to 100 knots but the captain did a great job. The cruise was wonderful with nice stops in Italy Spain and France. The service onboard was fantastic but a little slow in some restaurants. The French restaurant was the best all round, with the seafood to die for. We had a large balcony which was the best cabin we have had with the staff Jo Ann perfect. The hotel Director the best in the company always with a smile and a joke. Made time to chat with everyone. The ship was very clean and well stocked and the food great in all restaurants. Getting on and off the the ship was ok and the stops were nice but sometimes a long way from the city Rome was 1 and 1/2 hours away and cost to much to get to the big city’s. Read Less

Recently did the Norwegian 7 Day Western Mediterranean tour : Departing Barcelona, Naples, Rome, Florence/Pisa, Cannes, Palma (Majorca) and back to Barcelona. This was our first big holiday without children (!) and we wanted something to remember, so we booked rooms in The Haven. Wow! The Haven room was amazing, we had a balcony and spa in our room plus all of the extras you get with The Haven. I cannot recommend highly enough The Haven. You have your own butler, a concierge, your own restaurant, priority access on and off the boat, early entry into shows on the cruise and many more things. We loved it. The cruise was great too - we missed the port of Naples because of bad weather and went to Civitavecchia. That was a horrible place and not worth getting off the boat for had we known. Lots of con artists walking around trying to get money off people and nothing worth seeing at all. The rest was amazing. The tours through Norwegian was very expensive. I only booked 2 of them at the end. The rest of the tours I did with other tour organisers at each port. Almost half the price for some of the tours. For a couple that just wanted to have some quiet space, fantastic food, great customer service and to be spoilt - this was the perfect experience for us to do that. We used the following tour places for our ports: Cruising Excursions - booked a private tour and saw all the sites in one day (rushed but better than huge coaches full of people). This tour was basically wherever we wanted to go, which we enjoyed. Tour guide was good - but not fantastic with information. We had booked through Viator originally for our Rome port - and they cancelled 2 days before we left, which was really disappointing. Viator (Driver in Rome) - booked a semi-private tour of Florence/Pisa. This tour was great. We got to Pisa before a lot of the other tourists and the tour guide was amazing. Really enjoyed this one. The tours in Cannes and Majorca were through Norwegian - so we were like cattle herded around. Not overly enjoyable but we got to see great things. Read Less

Ship couldn't get special additional items purchased right that i had purchased and spoken to customer service on the phone at length, warm champagne in the room , no ice or glasses, 2nd bottle delivered same way 5 days early, the chocolate strawberries where tiny, canapes never arrived that we had spoken to no less then 5 staff members about and then when I complained the next day they asked why I didn't call ,tea service was 20 cookies, a pound cake a pot of reg coffee and no decaf or herb tea. I don;t eat carbs or caffeine, le bistro was a disgrace the waitress was inadequately trained my frisse salad had no frisse lettuce in it, I asked what came with the duck and I told them no carrots, just give me a spoonful of the cauliflower puree from the lamb, we waited 45 minutes between courses and my duck came out smothered in potato with a 1/2 head of cauliflower on the plate,It was disgraceful that i was paying an additional 5-15 dollars additional a glass for wine in Cucina and Cagneys,The humidor room was filthy all the time due to cigarette smokers, there was almost no place for my husband to enjoy a cigar, Our massage appointment was re-scheduled due to appointments made a week earlier, mine was made 4 months ago, I lost my reading glasses in spa whirlpool which couldn't be found in 5 days $150.00 gone. we had no water for 5 hours on embarkation. We had to go to the bar to get water for the room . We were late getting into Majora due to weather and the mob scene in the cafe restaurant was scary and there was no place to sit at all and the lines for each station were 20 minutes long ....we had all the wrong clothes i was told my husband needed jackets , slacks and a button down shirt in most restaurants, Teppanyaki told us the earliest we could eat was 9:30 there were 4 of us in an empty restaurant, at the Cirque show I was sat in the back and we were told first come first seated well there where 4 seats being held at the next table for the late comers we weren't late on line by 8:55 for 9:30 show. the tour we took from the ship train to sollair, the guild spoke so much broken English it was hard to follow her, there was no white party.more wasted clothes...I was pressured to buy , buy , buy more in the spa, the photographer took pics then told us they were $24 each and not available as part of package photo. The best part of the ship was being off of it on our own tours and we dreaded coming back each day. I spent enough time complaining to customer service that they knew me by name..... Read Less

4th Cruise all NCL, Epic, Spirit Escape and now back on Epic. We had four fantastic days in Italy beforehand two in Rome then two in Florence then returned to Rome for sail, took early train from Florence then connected to Civitavecchia to get the ship. We couldn't see transfer shuttle and ended up walking to port about 35 minutes and as we were excited to get on board it wasn't a problem. We only waited about 30 minutes in the terminal before we boarded about 12.15 Luggage was in the corridor with in 90 minutes and room was ready for about 3.30pm. Smooth as could be hoped for, the benefit of boarding in Rome is that only about 700 people board, after a ship tour and lunch it was muster time in the Epic Theatre for the Rome guests, muster takes about 5 minutes then they spend half an hour telling you what the ship has to offer, we had some beef with this, it was basically a sales pitch and we just wanted to enjoy our cruise many guests thought the same. (cabin review separate) Steward was excellent and always had our room made up and turned down in good time and perfect every time. We had premium all inclusive which gave us 14 bottles of water in our room an excellent addition to our cruise Shows, Priscilla was excellent, the costumes, numbers, acting all brilliant, a must see, some people say reserve but there was a few spare seats. The Epic Beatles, we seen them twice in the cavern club, it was not too difficult to get seats if you get in early but i'm told this is not always the case, we found all the shows, dinning, bars on this cruise were never at bursting point, busy, but not to the ridiculous scale we found on the Escape, especially the Atrium shows everything was very accessible but still a great atmosphere. This point alone made our cruise. The Escape was just tooo much people, even though this is still a "Big Ship" it seemed much less hectic although there was not a great deal of kids on board!! Bliss nightclub has had a great makeover since our last trip but we didn't spend much time here but it looks absolutely stunning , Howl at the moon, one of our favourite shows we got to see three times as there was always seating even mid show, always great! We like shakers but the singer was not our favourite each to their own I guess, also seen Jenifer Fair the operatic singer twice, fantastic!! Ports:- Florence we had already done pre-cruise so opted for a ship day, weather was not the best unfortunately but we were ready to chill and have a book day. Cannes we have done previous cruise so we decided to do Nice and Monaco but decided last minute to do Nice only we did not regret this as time may have been too tight to do both via train and we had a great day in Nice lovely walk along Promenade Anglais then we took the €10 petite train winch let us see more with stunning views. Palma took the NCL $10 bus to the old town and had a great day perhaps our favourite. Drops you off at the cathedral. Barcelona We have visited this beautiful city often so we just intended to walk around the city and reminisce but the previous day we befriended a Canadian couple and ended up giving them the $5 tour which we thoroughly enjoyed, the company made the differance. we spent a few nights in their company nearer the end of the cruise, we love meeting people on the cruises, and we met plenty this time around! Sea day weather sucked, so we renamed it bar day!! Naples We got our only proper excursion here, we used Italytours.EU to do Pompeii Sorrento and the Amalfi coast at only €69 per person we can not recommend them enough. Only 15 people on the modern minibus, so no waiting around on others between stops, we noticed a NCL sanctioned tour in Sorrento and as they walked passed us I noticed there was 50 people + all following each other and they probably paid double what we paid. small groups for the win!! All in all our day was perfect 2 guided hours (€15 entry) in Pompeii, 2 hours in Sorrento alone and great views of the Amalfi coast. Dinning Twice in taste 4 and 3.5 out of 5, Service was slow second night. Twice in Le Bistro 5 out of 5 both times and Cagneys once 4.5 out of 5 Manhattan once 4 out of 5 Garden cafe was so so, bit cold as buffets can be too often!! O'sheenans was always great for some wings and a beer!! Always a great atmosphere on this part of the ship the entire cruise. We even had breakfast there a few times. We love the Epic its a great ship and will most likely sail on her again! Read Less

Overall this was a fantastic trip. All of the ports were awesome with embarkation and disembarkation really smooth with the exception of Naples. Getting back onboard was a chore. The ship itself was awesome. I’ve cruised in the past and I often found myself with nothing to do, or entertainment that wasn’t entirely entertaining. Not the case with the Epic. The shows were fantastic and the dining options were endless. I traveled with a large group and there were plenty of options for us to get together as a group for dinner or a show. The only thing that wasn’t 100% was the quality of the rooms. The ship is a little bit older and the wear and tear was pretty apparent in some places. There were a few spots throughout where it looked like a quick fix was in place, but it was nothing that would have turned me away from sailing on the Epic, or any Norwegian ship in the future. Overall we had a delightful experience aboard the Norwegian Epic. However a few things to keep in mind if you have limited mobility: 1 - Rent a travel scooter before coming - this will give you full mobility on and off the ship. 2 - Most of the excursions through the ship (even level 1) are not conducive for anyone with limited mobility 3 - Get a scooter that can collapse to keep in room - will make it easier than having guest services take overnight to charge (but this is a good alternative) If you can - definitely upgrade to the Haven suites. We booked the Haven spa suite and I was able to walk around the room easily because there were things to hold onto. Not conducive for wheelchair though. I also was able to get a shower chair to avoid soapy slippery floors. At worst case, you can get wheelchair assistance on and off the ship. Based on all of this, we did not know we could rent a scooter beforehand and ended up renting one on the ship for a large price (could have bought one for slightly more than we rented one) but I was grateful the ship had this as an alternative. Also very grateful to the Haven concierge team for their help with our excursions and ensuring that I could get around. Loved the Haven and Specialty restaurants as well as the afternoon treats brought to our cabin each day. Delicious food and great ambiance. As a couple traveling, this offered us wonderful romantic meals, a fabulous balcony off our room to enjoy the views, have quiet space to read and disconnect with each other and see amazing sunsets each day. This was our first cruise which we did for our 25th Wedding Anniversary. Embarkation and disembarkation was really smooth and very quick (about 15 mins at check in). The ship was very clean and our cabin (a balcony) was spacious and the steward Bernard was always available to assist and very friendly. Dining in the complementary restaurants was fine and the food and service was very good. We ate in one of the speciality restaurants (Le Bistro) which was wonderful and the food was delicious. We went to two shows Priscilla Queen of the Desert and Burn the Floor both very good but very different. The ports were the main reason we chose this cruise as it visited all the places we wanted to see. We had excursions to Pompeii Rome and Florence and enjoyed them all. We just walked in the other ports. We would definately use NCL again. Read Less

The specialty restaurants were delicious , fyi they are now ala carte. We truly loved La Cucina , it is at the front of the ship and we had the perfect view of a magnificent sunset!! We went on 5 excursions that we booked with NCL, very long day's but they were very good , we had great tour guides , Lots of walking and long bus rides, but that's the price you must pay to see such beautiful places. We truly loved the Sorrento, Amalfi coast tour and boat ride to Salerno across the bay.Florence , Monte Carlo + Monaco were truly breathtakingly beautiful, i have wanted to see Monaco my whole life and was not disappionted Majjorca was lovely , nice warm water+ great sangria!! We've sailed on Epic before and there are a couple of things that have gotten better, but it's still average at best. The cabin we were in 11320 is on floor 11 and is the forth from the left if you're looking at the back of the boat. The balcony furniture is uncomfortable and they give you a very small table 5"x 5". The cabin is fine. The bathroom is typical of a cruise ship as is the shower. The hairdryer is in the middle of the room, so if anyone wants to go out to the balcony while you're doing your hair, they have to get by you. The food is ALWAYS the same. The only way you get anything different is if you go to the specialty restaurants. They nickle and dime, so be careful...anytime they ask for your cabin number, you can guarantee you'll be charged for something. Entertainment was so lame, in fact the best thing was the male sexy legs contest. Service was slow but good. Before when we sailed Epic, you had to cut through the casino to get to anywhere good and it was always smoke filled. They've made that a little better...or at least we didn't notice as much this time. People still smoke on the balconies even though they are warned not to. It's annoying if you're just trying to relax with a cup of coffee. (That's just me). The ports are good but they are all far away from the ports. Example, Rome is a little over an hour and once you factor in the shuttles and trains, it's almost two hours. All of the ports require a train or bus to the sights worth seeing-It makes for an exhausting week. Maybe that's why the entertainment is weak- We took the free drink and internet pkg. My advice would be to take the free drink and excursion. The wifi is AWFUL! The package that comes with the offer is 250mins. which by the time you get on is not worth it. All-in-all the cruise was eh- Read Less

We chose this cruise because we have cruised on Norwegian Cruise Line before and have always been happy with our choice. This was no exception, everything was great-food, entertainment, helpful happy staff except for one thing, Shore Excursion called Nice & Little Train booked through Norwegian. It started fine (on the actual date of our 50th anniversary, Sept. 7th) we met our tour bus and they drove us to Cannes. They stopped the bus and said the 1st part of this cruise you walk about 1 mile into the center of Cannes to shop or have coffee for about an hour (this is a Level 1 tour which should have minimal walking)then walk back to where you were dropped off to meet up with the little train or tram. Since my husband had suffered a stroke in April & had difficulty walking we just sat and had coffee at a little café near the bus drop off spot. We then met the little train & it went down hill from there. You had to put earphones on & choose the language you needed and that is while driving around in train you listened (or tried to listen) to a recording of the sites. It was nearly impossible to understand because it was very garbled. We had no stops until we reached the top of a hill and we were allowed to get off of train to take pictures or have coffee in the little store. If you needed to use the bathroom, it was a very long walk (about 1/2 mile down a hill). My husband needed to use the restroom and thank God I dicided to go with him because when we came out of the restroom everyone was already gone back to the train & my husband & I turned the wrong direction & got very lost. My husband was having trouble breathing & walking such a long distance & no one that we saw spoke English to help us find our way back to the train. I thought we would never get back, was crying & very upset & my husband was extremely tired. Finally, a young girl was jogging & I asked if she spoke English & she said she did but didn't know the area. I explained to her that we went to the restroom & got lost after exiting it. She (our angel) jogged until she found the restrooms & asked there how to get to train on the hill & came back to us telling us which way we had to go to get back to train. She then jogged all the way up the hill to tell train driver where we were & they came down to meet us.Our friends said that the train driver was getting ready to leave without us but they insisted they wait for us. I thought if you took a tour booked through the cruise line they could not leave without you! The driver was not very nice saying they were there only to show views not take care of us! Tour guide was a little nicer but not very caring. This could have ended very badly but "our angel" saved us! DO NOT waste your money on this tour, it is not worth the money they charge. After we got back on the bus, we were stopped in the middle of Cannes and the tour guide said you should shop in the shops & have some lunch in the great restaurants but never gave anyone the opportunity to leave the bus instead took us back to the port & we had to pay a taxi to take us right back to center of Cannes to shop & have lunch. During the cruise we had some wonderful meals, our specialty restaurant dinner for our anniversary celebration was at LaCucina Italian Restaurant and it was just perfect, the food, wine & atmosphere was great. They even sang to us an anniversary song while surprising us with a cake. Many other diners also wished us well & it was a fun night. Another evening specialty dinner was at Cagney's Steakhouse & it also was wonderful, we ate there to celebrate our friend's 50th anniversary & again food, wine & ambiance was great although no singing allowed there to go along with the cake they provided. The other special dinner was at Spiegel Tent for the Cirque Dreams-Epicurean and it also was great as was the show which we really enjoyed! The dinners in The Manhattan Room was ok not great. The ship also surprised us with a bottle of champagne in our cabin to celebrate our anniversary which was a very nice touch. Not too happy with the buffet which was often very crowded & hard to find seats.I can't forget to mention the excellent way the ship tried to keep everyone healthy with someone always there with hand santizer wherever you were "Washy,Washy, Happy, Happy"! The casino was another fun place for us even though none of us were big winners. Lots of shopping was done by us including souveniers & beautiful jewelry. Other then the tour mentioned above all of the other port excursions were wonderful but we did not book them through the ship. One little thing that we thought was outrageous was a shave my husband had in the salon, it cost a whopping $53.10. He had it done at my request because since his (above mentioned) stroke he really hasn't been able to get a really close shave & so he was willing to pay that price for me! We would recomment this cruise to all family & friends, it was a fun although very tiring time for us celebrating a wonderful 50 yrs together! Read Less

What a wonderful cruise! from the health club to the spa to the dining room and everything in between. Tons of entertainment throughout the ship, the lines were minimal including the ice cream bar! At 154,000 tons, this ship is so big that you barely feel the waves and the ship builders really went all out on the elevators, water slides, pools and theatres. Our waters and housekeeper were excellent! The excursions did seem to be overpriced so we did a bunch of shore activities on our own and found this to be more entertaining and certainly more economical. We were fortunate to board in Rome since the ship also embarks in Barcelona and this is a much bigger crowd...2/3rds of the passengers get on in Barcelona vs 1/3 get on in Italy. The Port we enjoyed the most was Florence Italy followed by Canes France. We would take this cruise again in a heartbeat. Thanks NCL! Read Less

I’ve been on other cruises, they were excellent ( Holand America twice). This cruise is an absolute rip off, Canot get worse service, food well below average, too many passengers ,on every step or purchase you get riped off. Reception never ever gets back to you or answers when you call( too busy).the comisiin on any food, drinks, casino, bingo is at list 20% on top of a redicolus prices they already have and charge $15 US dollars per a person by the ship shuttle to get dropped off in town , 5 minutes away, disgusting . It’s like a one star hotel charges a five star prices. I would not go back ever again and would never recommend it to anyone else. A BIG NO.another bad memory, we paid $69us dollars to play bingo($100AUD)the hall had at list 150 people that paid same or more and the prizes were aprox 200 dollars for one winner only, isn’t that a rip off ? To collect 5-$10,000 is dollars in one session and pay 200 as a one prize? All players that we spoken to were so posed off. They were taking us all as an idiots by the look of it. I hope that this review will wake them up so they will treat people with a bit more respect. For us it’s over with them,GOOD LUCK to next cruisers . Read Less

This review will cover the beginning to the end and in between our journey: We started in Barcelona Spain. If you are flying in I recommend a day early. It lets you time correct and a chance to see some of Barcelona. Our checked luggage was lost by American out of Philadelphia. Half the flights luggage was lost. We thought we would never see it again but because we had an extra day it was at our door on the ship. Stay near the metro off of La Rambla and you can take the metro if traveling light (2-3 luggage and shoulder bags). Get off at the Drassanes stop. You then will walk a short distance to get on a cruise bus that cost 3 euros each. Walking to the cruise ship is not advised. You will understand when you travel via taxi or bus. Once you arrive in the ship port you can easily drop luggage off and get through the lines easily. Once on the ship you can eat and drink till your room is available. Rooms: An inside room is functional. If you plan on only sleeping, showering and resting in the room then this option is great. The balcony rooms have a varied size balcony and a few more square feet. FOOD: Keep in mind you will be off the ship at ports on excursions or roaming on your own. You will only eat breakfast and dinner typically. You will want to try some of the local fare. If you want to buy the optional restaurant packages that is fine but not necessary. Each to their own. We did the Teppanyaki Restaurant. It was good but if you have been to Benihanas you have had that experience. The Chinese Noodle Bar has a decent menu and was good. This is complimentary. Its worth a dinner. Taste Restaurant (Main Dining Room) Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner: Each day they have a exact menu and a menu that changes daily. So you can try something new or get your typical. We had success here one night. Some of the people we met had an experience of no service. I don’t think this is normal. The Manhattan Room Restaurant (Main Dining Room) Dinner Dined here multiple times. We enjoyed the changing menu along with the standard. Very similar to the Taste. We had one evening where it was slow but it was great. Garden Café The Buffet on the 15th floor. Wide variety of Breakfast, Lunch and Dinner. If you can’t find something here then you will be a tough person to please. They change the food consistently but it has something for everyone. O’Sheehans Bar and Grill; I am not a wing fan but these are the best ever. A variety of food on the menu. Well worth the late night eat as well. Spice H20 Area with pool(small) and big screen. Food is a buffet line and typically burgers, hot dogs and wings. Bar is full. Other restaurants are available but we did not eat at them. EXCURSIONS: If you want to see a ton at each location then you better stay on land and pop from city to city. You have a decent amount time getting from the ship to locations. Also when your excursion tickets says a meeting time and location don’t show up exactly at the time or late. You hold up other people who paid the exact amount and want it to go smoothly. Also be back to your busses at the time they tell you….They will leave you. Do your homework. Let me Repeat do your homework. Know what you want to accomplish. You can walk miles or be casual depending on what you want to accomplish. Naples: We did the Pompeii with tour guide. They don’t tell you this but once you depart on your journey you will stop by a local jewel place. 35 minutes of time there. You then journey off to the excursion you wanted in the first place. The guides are well informed and detailed. You will NOT see all of Pompeii. Not enough time but worth it. Rome: After and hour plus drive on a bus to Rome we did the Hop on Hop off tour. The bus goes one direction only but at each stop they come by every 20-30 minutes. Look up the Red hop on hop off path. We got on the bus and took one ride to the next stop and walked it the rest of the way. We walked 11 miles that day. Pick the main thing you want to accomplish and do it first. We did the Coliseum first. Upon arriving you will see endless lines. We were approached by a women selling front of the line passes for 30 euros each for the guided Colosseum & Ancient Rome Tour with Forum & Palatine Hill. We did it versus waiting in line for 1-2 hours at a cost of 12 euros a piece and only the Colosseum in the price. It was worth every euro. It took about 2 ½ hours. We then headed to Trevi Fountain. It is crowded with tourists but beautiful We then walked toward Vatican City. We arrived just able to see the outside and surrounding area. The day we were there the pope was there doing a service preventing the Sistine Chapel and others from access till noon. Many people were offering front of the line passes. We didn’t have enough time to do that. The City is beautiful and not enough time to see everything in the time allowed. Florence and Pisa We did the Explore on your own tour. The bus guide gave us endless information to use as we explored on our own. Pisa is quick. 45 Minutes Quick. There isn’t a ton to see but it is worth seeing. Beware of the pick pockets They are young women with umbrellas and tennis shoes. Our guide pointed them out. You then head out to Florence. Cannes We didn’t have an excursion on this location. We tendered out to shore. Many boats back and forth to shore. If you want to put on the bathing suit and take a boat onshore there is a great little beach 2 football fields away. Aqua blue water. Be careful on those on shore. They may have an agenda for anything left on the beach. We walked to the castle. It is up hill and a little energy will be used getting there. There are a lot of shops to go through and dining places. You will see some amazing Yachts… We went to the boat early afternoon and chilled by the pool and bar. Mallorca We took a bus to Soller and then the train back to Parma. Soller is small and unique. You will be there for a short period to roam the town. You then hop on the oldest train in Europe. Unique trip. I liked it but it seemed high for what you get. You then can wonder the Parma are for abt an hour. You then get on the Ship to head back to Barcelona. They have entertainment. Howl at the Moon, the Cavern, shows and more. Each to their own. We liked The Cavern, Howl at the Moon and we saw one show that was done well. The Casino area is rather impressive. Many people each night having fun winning and losing money. We did the free alcohol as our free option. Worth every free penny lol. They had a wide selection of beers and endless selection of mixed drinks and alcohol. Beers: Coors Light, Lagunitas IPA, Stella, Dos XX, Estelle, Blue Moon, etc. Tip your Waiter or Waitress ( they deserve it) and they will take care of you. Luigi and Mervin in the pool bar were awesome on or cruise. The Ship is amazing. It has something for everyone and if you get the room that you need that fits your style then you will have a goodtime if you want to have a good time. Anyone that has given a bad review either had one event that ruined for them even though the ship is an awesome ship and the people working do an amazing job making your stay with them awesome. Getting off the Boat. You will be given options to get off in your room. We took a taxi to our hotel. It was a breeze. Taxis cost abt 25 euro from ship to airport. They have transport supplied by ship if you want the better option. Read Less

We choose this cruise because both of us really wanted to experience parts of Europe and this seemed like the best way to do this. We stayed in one of the Haven suites and I have to say we will never go back. The embarkation process was so smoooth. There was a minimum of 1500 people in line to check in. We were whisked away from that line and brought to another line. We filled out 3 short questions, checked in and were on the ship within 20 minutes. We met our concierge before boarding and given a private tour of the Haven private areas. We sat and ate lunch, thinking that we would still be waiting in line if we did not have the Haven. The disembarkation process was the same as well, we took our bags to he concierge desk and taken down a private elevator and were off the boat within 20 minutes. The crew and the boat was fantastic, clean and nice. I highly recommend the Epic and the cruise in general. Everywhere we ate the food was fantastic, especially at teppanyaki our cook was really engaging and funny. We saw 4 shows, cirque, comedy magician, Beatles and rock n roll and all 4 were great and very entertaining. Read Less

We chose this cruise because our cruise last year on the Norwegian Star was absolutely wonderful, so we thought we’d try NCL a second time. We brought our daughter and her boyfriend (1st time cruiser) with us this time. I read a number of bad reviews about the ship a month or two before our sail date and was hoping it wasn’t true (comments about the stateroom design, ugly ship, etc.). Well, although I did like the NCL Star better for the shows, the Epic was still wonderful. While other reviews didnt like the bathroom layout, we preferred the shower and toilet separate. The sink on the outside of the bathroom was fine, we had no issues with it being there, in fact I preferred it. You didn’t have to wait for the other person to come out of the shower if you needed to use the toilet. The service was excellent in all areas of the ship, and the food choices were endless. I like how the pub was open 24 hours. Buffet food isn’t always the best no matter where you are, but there were enough choices that there was no way anyone would be without something to eat. I preferred the shows on the Star but these shows were very good too. You had to reserve a date and time for some of the shows. The staff work very hard, morning till night and they really do want to ensure you’re enjoying your time on the ship. We didn’t book shore excursions through NCL, too expensive. Instead you can find the same excursions through the web or when you get off the ship. We had a great vacation and my daughter’s boyfriend had a fantastic time on his first cruise. He will sail again and so will we. A few tips, take the train from Rome to Civitachecchia, it’s cheaper and very efficient. You can catch it at a number of the stations in Rome. You then pay 2 euro for a bus shuttle to the port from the station right to your ship, We took a ferry from Naples to Sorrento, you can buy your tickets in advance or at the port. Be sure to take your proof of purchase to the ticket window going to and from Naples. Sometimes the printed reservation accepted, sometimes you have to go pick up your tickets. Book tours through Tuscany Bus rather than NCL when docked in Liverno, much more cost effective. Also, we stayed one night in Civitachecchia after the cruse but noticed that there are a lot of companies waiting to take passengers to Rome or the airport for only 20euto a person, most companies charge 150euro online for 4 passengers and luggage. We walked into our cabin to a huge stain on the carpet. I mean, as if a large red slurpee was spilled and it was left that way. Now, let me be clear. Every staff member we met, including the people who took care of the rooms, was super helpful and responsive to our needs. However, this is an issue with the ship needed to be updated or maintained more properly, as they continuously cruise without break and those of us who spend a fortune on a room are left feeling robbed of the feeling that you’re in a clean room. Other than that, we enjoyed the specialty restaurants (sushi, hibachi, steakhouse - all delicious) and the trip itself. They did a great job when it came time to get off in the various ports, we never waited in a long line to get on or off the ship. We loved the shows we did attend as well. There were plenty of activities to do, and always a pool chair available if you just wanted to lounge by the pool. The balcony was gorgeous and would’ve definitely been worth the money if the cabin itself would’ve been more well maintained. We never felt our room shaking or rocking while sailing, and often forgot we were on a cruise ship. Read Less

My wife & I were celebrating our 50th wedding anniversary. We had spent 5 days in Barcelona (fabulous) and before that we came off a 10-days cruise from Athens to Barcelona on Oceania's Riviera (owned by NCL). Up to this point everything was wonderful.-just what we anticipated. Then came the NCL cruise on the Epic. We chose this cruise because of its great itinerary. We should have done more research in regards to the demographics of the passengers, all 4,100 of them. It seemed as if more than half were kids, from infants to teens. The noise level at times was unbearable. Parents letting their kids go wild, running & shouting. On the main level, the cruise director & his staff were constantly shouting into a microphone playing games. Out of 18 decks, it was almost impossible to find a quiet, shaded outdoor area to sit and relax. On the other hand, the dining was pretty good in the specialty restaurants but only so-so in the two free main dining restaurants. Buffet breakfasts & lunches were good. Our cabin, a mini-suite, was adequate. Excursions were fine, except for the one they canceled at the last minute. If you're traveling with kids, this is the ship for you. If you're looking for a relaxing cruise, it definitely is NOT. We probably will not cruise on NCL again, maybe on one of the smaller ships. I realize "you get what you pay for" so there's really no comparing NCL with Oceania, Seabourn or Viking (other cruise lines we've sailed), but I'd rather cruise less frequently and truly enjoy it than be frustrated traveling more often. We booked this cruise after cancelling another NCL cruise going to Havana, Cuba (during last year's hurricane). My wife and I have always wanted to go to Italy, so we booked this one leaving from Rome and then came in a few days early to tour Venice and Rome. We had an amazing time in what felt like a mini-vacation before we even ended up on the ship! The folks at ItalyScape really set us up with some fantastic tours and guides. We did a "Breakfast at the Vatican" tour before the general public was allowed in, and I definitely recommend getting there early if you really want to appreciate the artwork before the crowds show up. In retrospect, booking a cruise in July in Italy meant it was going to be hot, and it was. But going early helped. We boarded the boat on Wednesday, and I must admit it was a little strange that most of the people on this particular cruise had boarded in Barcelona, so they were halfway into their cruise already. Didn't create any issues, just interesting. Boarding was simple, and we were in our room in no time. The cabin was great...we had picked a spa suite and we were literally two doors down from the spa, which was so convenient as we spent a lot of time there. Although the Epic is enormous, and there were times when the crush of people was annoying, we pretty much stayed to ourselves, ate when we wanted to, and stayed away from the pool on deck 15 where all the families and there kids were. We got into a routine of having a cocktail at the martini bar and then hitting one of the restaurants. We really enjoyed the food, especially the Brazilian steakhouse. And all the servers and wait staff were exceptional. The do nickel-and-dime you a lot for things, such as in-room movies and shuttles at the ports). We did our own trips at the ports, and were glad not to be in the cattle call every morning. We would roll up to the port, and our guides/drivers were waiting for us for a personal tour of whatever port we visited. Overall it was a great vacation and would do it again! Definitely recommend booking the Cirque show...it was awesome. We didn't really see any other shows...just nothing our speed! Read Less

We chose this ship mainly for the ports but also wanted to try a larger ship. It was our 25th anniversary trip and we wanted to visit all the ports while having to only unpack once. The Epic gives you so many options for dining, drinks and entertainment while on board. We loved the freestyle sytem but made reservations ahead of time for both main dining restaurants- which were amazing both for service and food. So many places to relax and order cocktails, listen to Beatles music or dueling piano or shows - I don't get people who don't enjoy themselves on this ship- if not happy with one thing try another! We enjoyed the excursions thru NCL. Lots of history with really great tour guides! A bit rushed but had to expect that. The room with balcony was great! Some reviews we had read really made the room sound cramped and horrible. It's fine, if spending a lot of time in your room then you are missing out on all the great amenities this ship has to offer. Last thing - ALL the crew members we interacted with were friendly and happy. I'm not sure how they kept this up all week but they did! Read Less

Everything worked great with the cruise. It was our first cruise, so I was a bit nervous after reading some complaints on reviews...... hmmm well maybe I should not have read it as I believe now, that is you need to complain, well maybe you should not go on a cruise. We have absolutely nothing to complain about. Dining was great and we tried 3 Ala cart restaurants, they were all great and my favorite must be Le Bistro. We also eat all our breakfasts in the Garden Cafe. The Manhattan was also great and that was complimentary and it was a nice cozy restaurant and everyone took so good care of us. We eat at O'Sheehan's a few times as we did not feel so hungry and just wanted a snack or two. We will MOST likely do more cruises with Norwegian as we did really enjoy it. It was a great trip the only complain I have is that it was to short, I think next time we can do 14 days instead of 7. We stayed a few days in Barcelona before the cruise and one day after the cruise. We used Bags & Go to take care of our luggage, that was super as we did not have to carry anything. We left our bag outside the cabin the night before and then Bags & Go took our luggage to the airport for us, the only thing we needed to do was carry the bag 20 meter at the port :-) from the band, to Bags & Go's desk. We did see the Beatles show a few time and they are good, try to see it if you are going. We also did see Burn the floor and Priscilla - Queen of the Desert. Spa was great and we spend some time there, it was nice to go there and just relax, we had a spa cabin so the spa visit was included for us. SO our advice would be - GO, just GO and enjoy the fact that you are able to travel on such a great ship and see so many great places, we are a few lucky people who can do that, so enjoy it. ship was very good balcony cabin 8199 deck eight, some cabin are restricted view down to water or enclosed panels etc, this cabin was perfect the balcony was largest we have had, (one chair and one chair reclined and a small table) we were the right hand of the ship, only issues were every morning when docking at 5.30/6am we were awoken by the engine thrusters (every morning), the toilet was to the right hand side of the door shower on left but sink (which was tiny en-suite sink) was in the room - this allowed me to shave whilst my wife had a shower ( gave us extra time we looked at positives but prefer traditional bathroom styles of other ncl ships. the sofa was next to the balcony. The ship is noisy throughout ( o'sheehans has bar on one side the restaurant on the other but a main walkway for the ship through the middle, there is ten pin bowling going on , pool tables and air hockey , everyone shouting to be heard above the noise ,the atrium has noise coming up from its level to osheenans ( i normally love eating in here on other ncl ships but the noise was unbearable - the garden cafe ie canteen was a lot quieter) taste was good but Manhattan was best quieter and relaxed, although twice in the week there was piano etc entertainment - we went specifically for this but we couldn't hear any entertainment for everone at other tables shouting over the top of the music to there friends at the same table , ( if you go for music and entertainment you should listen and be quiet and allow others to listen - if you want to eat and talk go to TASTE RESTAURANT ON THOSE NIGHTS, this was another noisy un-relaxing meal on the epic something they are good at. there was never any problem getting drinks at the bars, there are lots in a similar area if some are busy go to the next. the lifts are unbearable we walked up and down stairs all the time. if you did get a lift you are sure it will stop for people getting in or out at every floor. i have never know lifts to be so busy on any of the other 9 ships we have been on, the ones at the front are the worst. The sunbeds - well on the sea day a member of staff was asked if there were any sunbeds - he proceeded to point to the sunbeds with towels on them and laughed leaving the customer exasperated ( not the best response) he could have said there were over a hundred sunbeds up on the quiet deck ( deck 18) using the stairs from floor 15 at the garden cafe entrance ( this seems to be an unknown area as it was empty most days and although there are no bar areas serviced by waiters and also infused water available. rattana sunbeds with cushions and rattan cabana style sun beds. ( i don't think i should have said about this area as it wont be quiet anymore but i think it should be advised to guests as an option on sea days when thery are standing around without beds the entertainment was good Beatles in main theater 1st night, then in the cavern most nights. cirque show was superb we went at 7.45 waited to get in at 8pm and were given ringside seats best seat in show, we said we didn't want to hurt our necks looking up and would prefer balcony seats, the staff were shocked and said these were excellent seats and they were correct ( pay extra for ground floor seats show was right in front of us and you felt like you were in the show. Barcelona - hop on hop off bus - 3 routes. Very good system. There are a couple of companies so make sure you get on the right bus on and off. We enjoyed la rambla wandering at fruit/fish market. Squares, arc triemf, familia catheral . bought copy designer bags they were asking 85 euros, we paid 15 euros, we bought two large and one smaller prada, and gucci 15 euros eack. stick to your price, i just said that was all i was paying and they knew i had their bottom price ( local bar tender told me not to pay more) i walked away at watched bottom price was 50 euros for fully automatic rolex, omega etc they are still just a cheap watch with a copy name it might not even work the next day no warranty etc , not worth taking the chance Naples -Positto Pompeii,Sorrento Amalfi coast, used a normal taxi at port, two couples 150 euros per couple we didn't know the couple he got two others to join us ( driver was Angelo - he was superb very relaxed and informative) buy tickets prior online for pompei, we were 8 people from the front and took 25 mins to get in, there are two ques on for paying in (middle line) and tour guides (left line) the ticket seller booth takes 3 tour guides to every one paying visitor, the line to the right has its own ticket booth this is for online pre paid vouchers, ( best option). there were hundreds behind us and it was very very stressful paying ( not a good experience you had to physically push your way to the desk. (buy o ticket online to avoid stress. Rome - buy ticket at newsagent ( birg ticket) across the road from the shuttle drop off point at the roundabout. Follow the road parallel to the sea to train station (easily walkable 10mins well signed. put ur ticket it in green machine at train station before boarding slide to left and it will stamp - validate it, u then use it all day on trains underground and buses 12 euros all day travel. We dont use public transport and found it easy to use ( we asked locals a couple of times and they were very helpful- seems daunting but all train stops are marked above the train doors, and they announced the stops. Stops also say colosn and trevi fount etc easily recognized. Florence €19 return leaves 12mins past hour. Takes 1hr 20mins . We went from liverno station ( cruise shuttle €15 euro each) we missed train so we went via pisa. Got off train caught bus for 2 euros, same back to station then train to florence took 1hr. Train back at 3pm plenty of time 1 hr 10 mins back, there is no 4pm train back so 5pm train would be to late for shuttle back it stops at 5.45pm Freinzi Smn station ( ie florence is end of the line ) not the freinzi station stop before. Cannes- cant get off ship till 10.30am tender if u haven't book a tender. ( worth booking - if its to early for you, don't turn up just go after 10.30. noddy train at end on tender dock. 10 euro per person lasts 40/45mins . You get audio and a little bit of an idea of where is worth a visit. We had a walk up the oldest street and a look in general shops. Coffee and cake. Spent a relaxing 3.5hrs then back to ship Palma - shop shuttle 15 euros per person return but the taxi is 10 euro total for 4 to city centre ( cathedral ) same back. (i think ncl are a big bit cheeky charging 15 euro per person, we were two people and saved 10 euros and got taxi to where we wanted and got taxi from where we finished, no unnecessary waiting or walking (taxi best option) Cruise port to bcn airport terminal 2 - taxi 39 euros set fee (20mins) overall the itinerary was good, the staff were friendly and helpful, the ship was bearable very big and lots going on but to noisy at meal times. i think they are trying to get to much in every space, mostly to make more money and the tours and shuttles are extortionate, look online for private companies or get a taxi you will save money . do your home work Read Less

We chose this ship and the route because it hit some of the ports that we wanted to see, and we wanted to begin and end in Barcelona to stay after the cruise was over. While we liked the ports, we will never sail on this ship again. We go on numerous cruises, on numerous ships, but our room on this ship was the worst one ever. Who was the idiot that dreamed up a sliding glass door for the toilet? Absolutely no privacy! Then, they placed the sink in a little cramped area with poor lighting. Actually, our entire room had poor lighting. The ship was too big, in our opinion. I think there are 18 floors, but I only saw the 18th floor “quiet area” one day and that day was windy and rainy. Fortunately, someone who started at Rome warned me on the first day to go on the ship’s phone app and reserve a spot on the tenders in Cannes. Otherwise, we would have not gotten off in time for our excursion. Speaking of their App, it is bad. I even asked at the front desk, but there is no where to see the items that you have booked. The ship is full of things that you have to reserve space for, such as the main theatre, which is bad. Many times, the App and their screens would show the event “sold out”, when A LOT of seats were still available since people booked everything they could and then did not show up. The dining room meals were “ok”. The Irish Sports bar/restaurant had some decent dishes. And, the free oriental place was fine. Although, they tried to tell us that there where probably no seats available that night, until I insisted that we were going to wait and then she immediately sat us and we saw numerous empty tables. The drinks are ridiculously expensive; especially since they add 20% tip AND 10% VAT tax. So, a can of soda was about $4.50 and a basic drink was $13.00. If you got a $35 bottle of wine, that ended up over $45. The elevators were often jammed, or would skip your floor. There are just not enough elevators for that many people. Many of the areas were not very clean. It is not a “beautiful” ship. However, the Cirque show was excellent (even if the food there was mediocre, with no choices)! They would not let you bring soda, or even a bottle of water, on the ship. If you get suckered into buying a bottle of wine at the duty free store just outside of the ship, they will charge you $15/bottle to bring it aboard if you plan on drinking it. The hot tubs, that were made for 4, often had 8 people crammed into them. We’ve already got 3 more cruises booked for this year, but we won’t be on the Epic ever again. Read Less

We had a fantastic time on board the Norwegian Epic on our cruise covering the Western Med. The package we had included two free offerings. We chose unlimited beverages and specialty dining. By having both of these we know we saved several hundred dollars. The room we had was a very roomy and clean mini-suite. We enjoyed fantastic meals both in the specialty dining rooms (Cagney, La Cucina and Le Bristo) and in the Manhattan main dining room. Our favorite bar turned out to be the Maltings where the bartenders made us feel right at home and we now have several new drinks that we had never tried before. We were able to attend all of the entertainment experiences which we enjoyed thoroughly. We enjoyed dancing in the Bliss lounge and listing to the talented singers from Howl at the Moon. Although we enjoy dressing up several times during our cruises, the freestyle experience was also good and allowed us to pack lighter. We took two of the shore excursions offered by NCL and two from another source. They all turned out great with so much to see in each port. Barcelona is a great port to sail from and to since there is so much to see there. Sailing on the Epic was incredibly smooth and the ship looked great both inside and outside. When we were sailing we spend most of our daylight hours at the adult pool area, Spice H2O. Embarkation and Debarkation we very quick and simple. Read Less
