This ship is terrible. There's hardly any water in the one pool, no room in the other .There arent enough loungers for all passengers because of chair saving at 730am.The top quiet deck is a lawn chair on a deck, so crowded its like you're at the jersey shore AND NO POOL. Not all rooms have coffee makers. The coffee shop is an extra charge even with the unlimited drink package. This ship nickles and dimes you to death. Bingo costs money, shows cost money, tips have to be paid in advance. Drinks in the mini fridge come at an astronomical charge. Wi-Fi,astronomical charge. Bottled water isnt included in the drink package. $5.40 for a basic bottle of water. This is ludicrous especially for a ship that cant even depart on time! Our departure time last night was 7pm, the ship left at 1040, so the slot machines were locked for hours. This was my first cruise and surely my last. You couldn't pay me to do this again. The only thing saving my experience is the food and the islands visited. But even that is a rip off. You have to be back onboard by 1:30 for one of the destinations, not even a full day to explore. Debarkation is a nightmare, no organization. Read Less

We were first time cruisers and picked NCL for the freestyle cruise option and free drink package. We should have done more research! The boat is very clean and most staff was very pleasant and helpful but are overworked. The kids program was terrible and more like a poor daycare with not much going on. Our kids hated it! Pools were small and if you weren’t up on the deck by 6 am you wouldn’t get a seat! Never saw the cruise director, not much really going on. If you are prone to motion sickness this is not your ship! It moves and rocks a lot! Customer service was terrible and did nothing to help anything. The stops were poor as in St. Thomas you barely had three hours. The stop at NCL’s own island was the worst. The tender process was not explained and was grossly unorganized and took forever. We didn’t get to the island until after noon after we spent three hours waiting inside the theater for the tender boat. When we did get there no chairs or shade were available and the lines for food and drinks were over an hour long. This is NCL’s island you would think they have a better handle on this. Customer service did not care to hear any complaints or do anything. Disembarking on the last day was also Completely a mess. None of the staff knew what was going on and no communication with guests was given. Staff were rude and flat out ignored questions asked directly to them. We will most likely never do a cruise with NCL again. Seems like the other cruise lines offer much more. We were very disappointed in this vacation which was also our honeymoon. Please do a lot of research before choosing this cruise line and ship. Read Less

Embarkation was quick as we were the last bus coming from airport. We heard the lines were extremely long prior to us boarding. Once onboard it was a little chaotic at first. Cabin was mid ship, starboard side. Close to elevators, only 2 elevator banks so this was a plus. We didn’t mind the layout of the cabin with toilet and shower separate it was convenient to get ready. We only did complimentary dining, Taste and Manhattan dining rooms both had great service and great food. Garden Cafe was good if you like to eat with 1000 people too crowded. Entertainment was top notch! Must see Priscilla Queen of the Desert but you need reservations. Howl at the Moon, Epic Beatles, Comedy shows, Fire & Ice all fantastic too. Room Steward Ronald was the best, towel animals daily. Also after 3 days trying to get a chair on deck, without having to get up at 6am I asked for a deck lounger for balcony and he delivered. We also tip daily, it helps. Not enough chairs on pool decks and people hog them, they leave there towels all day empty. They do try to police this but it’s all over and rampant. This was a huge turn off, not sure if we will cruise again. Too many people, felt like cattle. Disembarkation was terrible, we waited 2 hours to get on prearranged transportation in the hot sun, never again. If there is a next time I will book my own. Overall it was a good cruise but just ok. I will start out with the positive... getting onto the ship was a breeze. The last time we sailed from NY it was a complete disaster so I was super pleased with the level of professionalism and efficiency from all involved. Walking into the ship it was clean, inviting and exciting. As always we made a quick dash to get band for the “vibe” or on this ship “posh” Our very first cruise was I. This ship so I was excited to sail on it again. We were able to get to our stateroom very quickly and bags arrived in a fairly timely manner. Upon meeting our cabin steward he was one of the best we have ever had. Not the least bit overbearing and always did a phenomenal job. We had booked 2 special days for our parents for their anniversary and my mother’s birthday. He excited both with precision and detail which we so greatly appreciated. When we were settled my family and I all decided to check out the posh as we like to spend a good chunk of our time there. From the get go there was not a good vibe up there, pun intended. Normally the staff is always happy smiling and knew our names by the second day. This was not the case with posh. We get this “upgrade” so we always have a place to go for some quiet and that extra special service. The space was loud because of its close proximity to the main pool deck. We were brought water only once and never offered a cocktail or fruit plate. Each time We wanted a refill on water or a cocktail we would have to get up and go to the bar and order and retrieve it ourselves. While not the end of the world I found myself questioning why we paid extra for essentially nothing. On top of that the staff was not friendly there. I was highly disappointed and decided to spend my time elsewhere. Waiting at all bars was almost unbearable but I do understand that there are only so many bartenders and many guests in the ship. When checking into Le Bistro we were again met with an unfriendly face. The hostess did not seem accommodating or kind at all. When dining we decided to indulge in a bottle of wine not included in our package. The sommelier was one the most knowledgeable and kind we have ever met. He absolutely made our experience at Le Bistro much better. Without him the meal would have been sub par. The dealers in the casino were great fun. I found myself looking for the same ones day and night as they made the experience of losing money a little but better with their humor and small talk. I decided one night to use the salon for a blowout. I scheduled the appointment for 730 so I would have enough time to get ready before dinner. After waiting 20 minutes after checking in I approached the front desk to see what the deal was. I was met with “oh no one came for you yet?” After attempting to reschedule for the next day, the stylist irina appeared. From my understanding of my talk with both the front desk and Irina, I was double booked with another haircut she was performing before me. I once again did not feel like I was a priority in the least bit. She styled my hair and I was able to make dinner by the skin of my teeth. I must say that experience was extremely disappointing to me. Bar service in the casino was also extremely lack luster, however the male and female bartenders at the casino bar were beyond kind and committed my name and drink order to memory. Priscilla queen of the desert was a highlight of the cruise. The cast was PHENOMENAL. We were lucky enough to meet some of the cast and they were so kind. As regular cruiser we look forward to meeting other LGBT friends at the Friends Of Dorothy gathering. The name change of the meeting is not my favorite. The location for the meeting this cruise was not the most desired spot, we much preferred it when it was held at shakers. One of the most disappointing things to happen was at great stirrup cay. One of the main reasons I went on this cruise was to swim with the pigs. I understand that the tide is beyond NCLs control but a warning of such might have been nice before we went to check In. The Epics layout overall is not my favorite and I’m happy to see that other ships have not been modeled after it. Overall the cruise was ok, nothing to write home about. As loyal NCL cruisers we will return as guests but I think we may explore other lines after the lack of customer service. Read Less

We had fabulous weather. The ports were very nice and of course the crew were exceptional as always on a NCL ship. However, the ship is too large and too crowded to really give everyone the attention they deserve. Embarking was like herding cattle. Not like any haven embarkation I've ever seen. Especially since we are platinum latitudes level. Even though we had a haven suite we were unable to enjoy the haven pool area as it was so crowded and filled with children. The elevators were jam packed. The haven epic club restaurant was fabulous. Staff and food were excellent. In fact I would forego the specialty dining and just eat there if I had to do it over again. There are just way too many haven passengers to make you feel you are getting your money's worth for anything other than the restaurant. The concierge, David, never came to our room to introduce himself or check on our needs. If you visited him at his desk there were often long lines. However, his assistant, Lillian, was fabulous. I gave her the tip. Singh, our Butler was exceptional. He took care of everything we needed and was available anytime I needed something. I did not go to any show. Apparently with so many people you had to make reservations. And some were an extra charge. What is up with that??? Even the musicians and singers at the smaller bars were so crowded you couldn't get a seat. I like the ultimate beverage package but it seems that with so many people having this option the servers are no longer coming to take your drink orders. The lines are so long as a result. All in all I was not impressed and felt I did not get much value for the amount I spent on this cruise. Read Less

We chose Norwegian because we had not sailed with them before and had big time expectations since we’ve sailed several times on their cheaper competitors. In many ways they delivered on our high expectations and on others not so much. We arrived at the port a couple hours before embarking. The lines were very long but we were near the front luckily. When the embarkation process started, it went very smoothly with no problems at all. After standing still waiting for the process to start for an hour, once it started moving, we were aboard 30 min later. Our first impressions of the ship was this was a really nice one and super clean. We were immediately offered a couple sprays of disinfectant and saw several automatic dispenser stationed around the ship. We made our way to our cabin on the 12th floor. It was exactly what we expected. Maybe a little odd to have the toilet and shower kinda out in the open each using frosted glass. This area can be curtained off to separate from the rest of room. We found the storage to be plentiful with cabinets all over and high and low. The bed was comfortable and big enough for a couple adults. In case an additional sleeping spot is needed, the couch can roll out into a narrow bed. We really enjoyed just how dark the room could be when the curtains were shut. The balcony was also exactly what I expected, not too big or too small. We were excited to hit the buffet and bar so we head to the garden cafe on 15. As we walk towards it, we are offered hand disinfectant from the happiest human we’ve ever met. She becomes a very quotable person by several patrons. As she so happily sprays away the germs, she says “washy washy, happy happy” with a big genuine smile. The staff was accommodating and friendly and professional! The food options are nice for just about any dietary restrictions/desires/preferences. However as much as we would like to rave about the food, it was only ok in our opinions. The highlight was Teppanyaki - we didn’t try the steakhouse or Italian restaurant. It was overpriced for the quality of food. By no means are we foodies, but the value just wasn’t there. Cons... Outdoor bars during “at sea days” were super crowded (a couple rows deep) but the indoor bars didn’t have a wait. Beware - lounge chairs are VERY limited on “at sea days”. Get out there early to claim yours! They only offer laundry service - no washers & dryers avail for guests. Communication could have been better for the following THREE things: embarkation (waiting an hour due to prior cruise having trouble getting off boat - facial recognition issue), tendering to private island (1hr wait with zero communication as to why and what the procedure was), and disembarkation (we choose the earliest at 0700 but had zero guidance as to what floor or where to get in line... the line went in a complete circle from the back of ship to the front and we disembarked from the back. It was chaos! We didn’t know where to go or how long we would be waiting, once there. Our last gripe is a big one. The duration at port in st Thomas was drastically too short. Our excursion to St. John and trunk bay was excellent but it took up the entire time. We got back at 1pm and stood in line to board the ship by 1:30. We had no time to pick up a souvenir. The comedians were great and the broadway show (about drag queens) was quality but a touch on the inappropriate side. Overall we enjoyed, and while we would keep our options open to trying a different cruise line, we would go again in the future. Read Less

We choose this cruise because we had taken the Alaskan cruise on the Norwegian Pearl and had a wonderful time. The cruise was not worth the money we had to pay. First there were problems with the ship which delayed us 6 hours. There were college students everywhere. We had to stand in long lines to get a drink. Loud partying all night in the halls and on the balconies. Forget getting a specialty dinner at a decent hour unless you want to eat at 9-10 pm at night. Had to wait in long lines for regular dining. Forget getting a sun cot on the pool deck. I saw a line of 6 to 7 cots open and asked the young lady if they were free. No, of course not. She was saving them all for her friends. Finally we decided to stay in our room most of the time instead of fighting the crowds. Also had to skip Stirrup Cay because of rough sea. So out of the 7 days we were at sea 5 of them. Not a good time at all!!! Read Less

We wanted this cruise because the balcony rooms and being able to go to St. Thomas. We did have a balcony room, and I can say I enjoyed the room, even if the layout is strange. That was about the only thing I can say I consistently enjoyed. The food was a crap shoot: Tempanyaki was amazing and the staff was great, The Noodle Bar, also great, the steak house, Cagney's, perfect and again, the staff was killer. The Brazilian Steak house was just meh, the staff, not friendly, the main dining room and Taste were just ok, and the staff had other places they wanted to be. It isn't like we were sneaking in right before closing, we had reservations. The always open restaurant was just the buffet food plus wings. The buffet was ok, just ok. I understand and did see horrible guests that make working service jobs a pain, so I get that some days you are not on your A-game, but it was all the time. We bought the soda package and I am not kidding, we got maybe 10 sodas a piece, max. You had to wait behind all of the people at the bar, even kids did, to get a soda. Maybe it was because on my last cruise on Symphony of the Seas, you got a special magnetized cup which allowed you to a soda machine to fill your cup without waiting in line forever at the bar. What a total waste of money that was. The internet was sketchy at best. We left several hours late due to "scheduled maintenance", and while it did not effect our arrival in Tortola, it did mean we really had nothing to do for all of those hours, no shops could be open, nothing. When we were in port one day, more maintenance, they were cleaning our balcony, then at 7 om a knock on the door to do a state room check, then we didn't stop at all on their private island, and we find out that that seems to be a very common theme. The pool area was super small. All together, it was very disappointing, three scheduled maintenance things on one cruise? Not being able to get things you paid for and having staff be crabby or just not being able to find anyone if you had a question? I'd not go on this ship again and am not sure if I will go on NCL again. Other lines have it so much more together and easy. Read Less

I have only cruised one other cruise line prior to this one, OMG was it different. Debarkation was horrible and the bed in my cabin slept like I made a pallet on a mountain of rock. The bed separated down the middle and made it very uncomfortable and restless. I was pretty tired and had back pain when I got back. On another note mostly everything else was good. I liked the cleanliness of every place even the restrooms outside of our rooms, and the buffet dining areas. KUDOS!!! THE FOOD WAS AMAZING!!!!! The beverage and dining packages were an added plus, we were able to try some exceptional cuisine. Being that this was my first Norwegian cruise I had no idea that I had to book my dining or entertainment prior to the cruise for optimum access, but I won't make that mistake again. I wanted to try so many things that were sold out like Escape the big top, send the cirque dinner show ( I paid 47.00 but the show's after mine were 36 dollars) I heard no idea why. My first NCL experience wasn't bad, the bed situation took it down a little because I had to work on my back when I got back, but overall the experience was pretty good. Read Less

My husband and I had cruised once before, with another cruise line, on a big ship similar to the Epic. We wanted to give Norwegian a shot just to make sure we weren't missing anything. Embarkation was very smooth (as was disembarkation-no problems either time), but I was already a bit put off that I couldn't reserve everything (e.g. boat tour, some entertainment) ahead of time online, so we had to waste our time onboard the first day booking things instead of getting in the pool. The good: we got a thermal spa pass for the week and it was a WONDERFUL place to relax away from the crowds. Heated pool, saunas, steam room, peace and quiet! There was one super friendly woman who worked at the buffet spraying hand sanitizer (the "washy-washy, happy-happy!" lady) who was always upbeat and smiling. "Priscilla, Queen of the Desert" was an awesome show! The food in the specialty restaurants was really great, especially the Brazilian steakhouse and the Japanese steakhouse. The fitness center was pretty nice, too. The bad (pretty much everything else) : While we did NOT care for the cabin layout with the weird bathroom (as you will read over and over again in reviews) our main complaint was that the staff seemed very disinterested in general. Service was quite slow in all of the bars and was very inconsistent in most of the restaurants (specialty restaurant staff was better, but not great, overall). Staff throughout the ship (outside of our cabin steward and spa staff) were not friendly. People rarely had smiles on their faces, were abrupt when asked questions and in general did not seem to want to be there. We frequently commented to each other that we felt like a burden to the staff (and in general we are quiet, easy to please people who honestly don't ask for anything out of the ordinary). There was no attention to detail. People forgot to take your orders, didn't consistently bring bread or other small items like that at restaurants. We saw a band-aid by a stairwell for three days that no one every picked up. (I might have picked up a stray piece of paper for good karma, but not someone's used band-aid!!) We REALLY didn't like being forced to walk through the smoky casino to get anywhere. That was not our experience with the other cruise line we were on. The bars all just felt like they were part of one big corridor, and didn't really have their own identities, so everything seemed loud and busy, not cozy and personal. Food in the main dining room was mediocre in general. I don't think that I finished any of the meals (or even desserts) I was served. Even you if you had a tender "reservation" you had to wait in line for 30 minutes to an hour, and since no one ever actually checked your tender ticket or reservation time, making the effort to get a reservation was completely worthless. There are more things little things that we didn't care for, but honestly with all these other negatives I don't know that they're worth mentioning. It was really disappointing, seeing how we had enjoyed our first cruise so much and had spent so much money on this one. We will not cruise with Norwegian (on any ship) again. Read Less

I chose this cruise to try something other than Carnival. I found myself missing Carnival,,, much more festive atmosphere, better food on Carnival. The entertainment on the Epic was good, except Burn the Floor had a gay theme in the beginning that was a turn-off. Loved the Beatles tribute band. The Garden Cafe was subs-standard food. We discovered the Manhattan to escape the bad food. Desserts in particular were tasteless at the Garden Cafe. It also seemed a cruise that catered to a lot of geriatric and disabled passengers. I didn't feel like I was among my peers. Our stateroom was wonderful. Tendering from the ship to port also was smooth. Somewhat of a language barrier, as we ended up with a different shore excursion than we intended to sign up for. We were unable to attend some events (Beatles) because the venue was small and there was no reserve seating. I would prefer reserve seating for all events. The embarkation and disembarkation went about as smoothly as expected. Our cabin steward was very friendly and took good care of us. We did have a problem getting fresh beach towels to take into port. After 3 requests we gave up and checked towels out from the pool area. The best port of call was St. Thomas, yet we had the shortest amount of time there. The ports of call were all beautiful. On Great Stirrup Cay (owned by Norwegian) they could use some netted tents to protect food from all the flies. We were pleasantly surprised to find available lawn chairs, even though we arrived late morning. Wear lots of sunscreen!! In Tortolla we were ripped off by a beach vendor who charged us about $20 more than advertised for two drinks. We figure it was because we did not rent his $20 lawn chair and chose to sit on the sand. Buyer beware! We used the gym onboard...very nice, not too crowded, state of the art equipment and NICE VIEW!! Read Less

We booked this trip to Tortola, St Thomas, and Great Stirrup Cay because it offered a great way to combine relaxing days at sea with some fun adventures on the beaches of the Caribbean. Leaving Colorado in February for warmth and relaxation made it the perfect vacation for us, and it the first vacation vacation without kids for me in almost 20 years. Wahoo for a cruise that included Valentine's Day!! The ship didn't "feel right" from the moment we left port, with an odd shuddering periodically in addition to the normal rock and hum of a cruise ship. On our second day at sea, it was announced that "power issues" were going to divert us from our scheduled itinerary, and we'd be sailing slowly to San Juan for repairs. We docked with a bang, crashing into two dolphin piers and sinking them into the harbor. We were told we'd have a 50% credit on a future cruise, and that they hoped to make repairs quickly to get us underway to Great Stirrup Cay as scheduled. It's important to note that information was difficult to get - the captain was unintelligible, the cruise director that always repeated his message was vague - and doled out with an eye-dropper. Each day was a new variation on "not at all what you planned for." Our tour company was told that we'd be leaving in the evening, although the sign when disembarking said 5:30pm. We were halfway through our tour when we were rushed back to the ship because they wanted to leave at 5:30. We boarded and they closed the hatch behind us, but we didn't sail for several hours, as we needed a tugboat to take us out of port. Once underway, we were told that we would not sail to GSC as planned, but would in fact go back to Port Canaveral. The next day, we were told we'd arrive at 8pm, which was the final injustice. Frantically changing airline plans and transport plans, the wifi and phone systems were overwhelmed. It was helpful that the cruise director gave the wrong code to get a landline in the announcement... it made it easier for those of us who asked at Guest Services to use the right one, but led to a massive crowd in a very warm atrium as a result. Many passengers had change fees and flight costs in excess of $500 per person because they were buying much more expensive tickets two days ahead of flying than those they'd purchased well in advance. The cruise line reimbursed them a maximum of $300 per person. Transport fee changes were not reimbursed at all. More importantly, since the cruise for the following week would be cut short, they were rescheduled to a 5 day cruise to Nassau (rather than a 7 day cruise to Jamaica), given a 50% credit AND a 50% refund, as well as the option to not sail and receive a full refund. We asked for a refund or the ability to use the credit on one of Norwegian's other cruise lines, and received a form letter in response that they were sorry we were "disappointed" but they stood by their offer of a 100% credit to be used within 24 months. A six page letter from me was answered via a form letter. "Disappointed" was not a word I would use. The engine problems and propeller problems were out of their control, but communication was horrible, consideration for guests who suffered significant financial hardship, and their complete failure to adjust the onboard schedule so that people wouldn't have run out of things to do by Thursday (virtually all Sea Days will do that) was absolutely in their control. Without valid data, when traveling at 10-12 knots with one propeller, people tend to fill in the blanks themselves. Anger, fear, panic attacks... that's not a vacation. It was a nightmare. It was being kidnapped with a buffet. Speaking of buffets and speaking of food... the specialty restaurants were incredible. I'm grateful we took advantage of the "3 free" offer. The main dining rooms can best be described as "dorm food." Steaks are too thin to truly be cooked to order, chicken was rubbery, seafood was overcooked and oversauced, the buffet food suffered from too much time under warming lamps, and portions were small and often disproportionate (picture a "Philly Cheesesteak" which has a large bun with a minimal amount of filling). Finally, not once did I see anyone changing out the serving utensils in the buffet lines. Hand sanitation standards on this ship were much lower than what I've experienced on others. I've been on ships where you were not permitted to enter a dining area until you'd taken a hand wipe. It was very much optional and often inconveniently located on the Epic. The rooms are smaller than I've experienced on other cruise lines and oddly laid out. The "queen bed" was far shorter than a standard bed. so prepare to sleep with your feet hanging off the end. One closet had no hangars, so be sure to bring your own. The other closet has those "unstealable" hangars that hang from a holder on the bar in the closet which can't be removed (or moved to the other closet). Finally, "freestyle cruising" means that rather than tipping individuals based on your service experience, you are charged a daily service fee that requires a form to change... and I couldn't increase it, only decrease it. My apologies to Marco, our cabin steward, who deserved more than the standard but wasn't able to get it because of the process. The ship is very large, with insufficient elevators for the number of people aboard. It was rare to be able to board the first elevator that stopped, as they were often full. It wasn't unusual to wait 10+ minutes to have an elevator you could ride, particularly from 6pm-10pm. In short, our experience on the Epic was #EpicFail. I would not recommend it to others. Read Less

On the second day we lost 2 engines, so we could not go to Tortola or Saint Thomas as we were supposed to, but instead were rerouted to San Juan for repairs. On the way in, we hit the dock twice. We left the next day to hit our final stop of the Bahamas, but the engines went out again and we were told we were going straight back to Port Canaveral. We were told we would arrive at 8 PM instead of 8 AM, but during the night they made an unscheduled stop in the Bahamas, without telling us, to pick up a part. That got us back to port Canaveral at 11 AM, after everyone had already changed their plans. Look, stuff happens, but it’s how you recover from it that’s important. The communication aboard the ship it was terrible, they slowly fed us information, and not complete information. They gave us a 100% credit for what we paid just for the cruise. In my opinion, this is a good start, it’s what they owe us. I’ve asked them what else they are going to do to keep us as customers, and so far have not received a response. The service of the crew was fantastic, as was the entertainment. One change I would recommend is not offering movies right below the noisy bar. Use the theater instead. Read Less

Was going to call this Epic Fail, but everyone else will. I will start with the good because I’m sure plenty of reviews will focus on the negative. This was our second cruise, both on Norwegian. The food was as expected, pretty good. Manhattan and Taste were better than the buffet. We didn’t do any of the ‘Pay’ restaurants this time around. We had on previous cruise and they were great. Room This was the first time we tried and inside room and loved it. Last one we had a balcony that we never used. It was perfectly dark for sleeping, which was roughly the only time we were in the room. Lots of storage space and we liked the toilet being separate from the shower. Shows The Cirque show was great. How they do what they do on a moving boat is incredible. The meal was quite good as well. Pricilla was a blast. They warn you about the adult themes yet some moron brought his kid. Howl at the Moon was fun, although scaled back from the one we went to in Indianapolis. We skipped Burn the Floor Service We were very happy with all the service except as related to the issues on the ship. Cons We weren’t crazy about the layout. It’s an older ship and doesn’t have The Waterfront which is great. Mechanical Issues We were a day away from Tortola when they told us we had mechanical issues and would not be going to Tortola or St. Thomas but would be going to San Juan. At this point they told us we would get a 50% credit. We later found out there were issues before leaving. When we left they had not been able to fix the engine (not told to us) but would make Great Stirrup Cay. We didn’t and we’re in fact late getting to Port Canaveral. We’re we covered up to $300 per person for changes to flights and 100% credit on next flight. We were making the beat of it all, but my biggest issue was the communication. That had to have known we would never get to our last port but waited until the last minute to tell us. That was my single biggest issue. I will sail Norwegian again, just never on the Epic. I'll try to keep this as brief and informative as i can. First, this was the cruise that experienced engine problems, missed all our ports and arrived late back to Port Canaveral, but this is a review of our experience on board and more importantly, the ship itself. This was our 7th cruise among several different lines, so the ship as a whole we really enjoyed. It's big, the food was very good comparability to other cruises, and we really liked the design of the cabin, we read lots of reviews critical of the separate shower/toilet and sink in the room. My wife and i found this cabin design very convenient. We had an aft balcony cabin, we enjoyed the view, however, there is noise on the balcony, it's not engine noise, it's noise from the wake of the water, we didn't find it annoying at all, but it was noise. there also is a slight spray from the wake that left a sea salt residue on the balcony, this also did not annoy us as we love the Sea and thought it was neat to have sea salt on our porch. We had the drink package and found it was well worth it as cruise ship drink prices are high, we did find it sometimes difficult to get a drink quickly as the bars are often busy and there could be more of them(bars) on the ship. The water slides were great, we took advantage of them while docked in San Juan for some engine repairs, most of the 4100 passengers were on land, which finally opened up the pool area for us and a few other passengers to enjoy(it's typical on cruise ships to not get a nice chair by the pool, as they're always crowded and there is a wait in long lines for water slides). A piece of advice, if your going to bring the 1 bottle of wine per person on board, NCL will charge you a $15 per bottle cork fee, i suggest you sneak it on in your checked luggage, the "cork" fee was pretty tacky. Overall it was a really good cruise, NCL did their best to keep the passengers informed and entertained on a disrupted cruise, and they gave us credit towards our next cruise, which we think was fair, in fact we already booked our next one . Well I will start by saying that I am not typically the type to complain, but Norwegian left us less than impressed. The biggest issue was that the boat seemed way understaffed. Since the drink package wasn't monitored well, it seemed that all 4,000+ cruisers were drinking, and there were only about 2 or 3 bartenders to the busiest bars and only 1 in the less busy bars. This led to long wait times and annoyed guests that actually ended up exchanging words many times because there was no order in the queue. There were some waiters at the pool area, but it literally took them around 45 minutes to return between drink orders (with exception of Carlos from Colombia who was one of the only bright spots for us). The pools were laughable. Keep in mind that there are over 4,000 people on this boat. These pools might have fit 50 to 100 people at max and there were only two of them in the main deck area. Also, if you didn't go to the deck by 7:00 am to claim a chair, then you would not get one. There was no control over chairs claimed and left vacant for hours. As for the food, I felt like there were minimal included restaurant options (about 3 places other than the buffet), but there were several restaurants where you would pay extra. We only went to the included restaurants which were always booked solid. The wait staff was stretched thin, and they would become almost rude at times. I was snapped at once by the waiter for requesting another drink. As for room service...forget it. Sometimes we couldn't even get an attendant to pick up the phone, and when we did, it took over an hour to arrive at our room (even just a pitcher of water). So going back to the phones, the availability to support was severely lacking. We couldn't get guest services or room attendant support at all by telephone. In fact, we NEVER even saw our room attendant. We would just have to flag down attendants in the hallway if we needed something. I feel like I am bashing the cruise line right now, but all these things were so disappointing when we thought Norwegian was a step up from the competition. I can certainly say that the experience was better on Carnival. The general attention to detail was just not there at all. Just a few other points of disappointment, the shopping was minimal, the internet (although very expensive) was horrible, the live entertainment was not spectacular (with exception of the Cirque show and Priscillas which were great). As an example, the musicians in the Cavern had no stage presence and they played the same set each night. They didn't know any of the songs called out for request, and they were some pretty basic songs, like Free Bird. This is a cruise line; I would expect the entertainment to be above the level of the basic corner bar. To be fair, I want to mention the things that I think Norwegian did right. The onboarding and disembarking moved quickly. The app and excursion booking process was easy and convenient. The rooms were kept clean. And the "washy washy happy happy" girls will have us laughing for years to come. Other than that, I would say that Norwegian has a lot of room for improvement if they want to maintain their reputation as a premier cruise liner. Read Less

This is not our 1st cruise nor actually our 1st Norwegian Cruise either. Actually we are platinum members with Norwegian. We embarked from Port Canaveral. We cruised this time in a mini-suite on deck 10. The biggest disappointment overall was the service and the quality of the food from the start. Restaurant service was VERY poor except for Le Bistro. The worst experience of the entire cruise was in Cagney's. The food in Cagney's was horrible, presentation a 3rd grader would have done better and the service very poor. Overall either the staff [as a whole] either needs more training or time off, all for the most part appeared very tired and grumpy. On the few occasions we needed help it was very hard to find someone that was either willing to help or could provide an answer. In our opinion, the level of service and quality of their food has significantly deteriorated over the past couple of years. We also had the ultimate beverage package on this cruise and compared for example with Celebrity's [we sailed with them 3 months ago and also several times] Norwegians leaves a lot to be desired. We chose this cruise because we had wanted to try a different cruise line from Carnival since we did Carnival for our previous cruise. Unfortunately, we were very disappointed with the cruise. There were so many people on the boat we were only able to book three of the shows on the cruise. That is saying a LOT due to the fact that we had 5 days at sea. Our tv program for booking shows and restaurants did not work most of the time. The service was either great, or completely terrible. We had a few servers who took EXCELLENT care of us, and others that were actually rude (including rushing us through our ordering process at a sit down restaurant, and a cocktail waitress sighed and rolled her eyes when we tried to get her attention.) The stops at St, Thomas and Tortola were gorgeous and we had a great time exploring the Virgin Islands. There was bad weather that prevented us from stopping at the Bahamas, which was no fault of Norwegian but it did add another negative situation to add to all the others. I would also recommend double checking your reservation if you set it up online to make sure you get the promotional packages they promise for the room you choose. Our reservation was messed up online due to the initial room we chose was booked before we could put in payment information and after choosing a new room we lost our promotions without being notified that everything had been reset. I know that part is our fault for not checking, but it was definitely troublesome and there was nothing they would do for us on the ship. We ended up having to spend much more on on-board expenses than we had planned. Ultimately, I might actually choose to travel Norwegian again but only because I know better now and can make sure none of those same mistakes happen again, mostly choosing a ship with a smaller capacity. I felt like we couldn't be taken care of properly or take full advantage of what the ship had to offer because of how many people were on the ship and how crowded things were. Read Less

,We did not pick this cruise out, our friends did since it was their 50th anniversary. The food was very good in the specialty restaurants. We liked Cagney`s the best but LeBistro was also very good. The entertainment in the theater was excellent as we enjoyed Burn the floor and Priscilla. We also enjoyed the Beatles impersonator band who were excellent but the room they performed in was so small you couldn`t get a seat and we couldn`t even see the band from where we were standing. The game shows was fun but at times you couldn`t once again get a seat for the show. Why not have this in the theater so everyone could be seated? Another big gripe of ours was the lack of seating in the pool area. Unless your`re out there by 7:30am-8:00am and put your towel down on a lounge chair, you will not get one. They have room for more lounges but I guess they ran out of these. The rooms were dissappointing. The sink is in the room and so is the shower. I get up much earlier than my wife and I would disrupt her sleep if I took a shower or used the sink. Very poor room design. The only other positive thing I can say about the cruise is you must get the drink package which is so worth the money if you plan to have at least 3-4 drinks per day. Read Less

Chose cruise based on a casino offer. Great price. I had low expectations due to the reviews I read on Cruise Critic. Let me start by saying this ship is beautiful. Very elegant and modern with leather, wood and creamy tile floors. The art is simple and beautiful at the same time. Very Spa like feeling throughout the ship. There are huge mirrors in the stairwells and it was very CLEAN. The common areas are very wide and open to accommodate the crowds and the hallways and stairwells were larger than most ships. We had a full ship and I did nto feel crowded at all. I was glad that I did some research before sailing so that I could book the entertainment ahead of time. The whole process of booking and trying to keep up with what when and where the shows are was a little difficult to keep up with. We were allowed to book some main shows before sailing then comedy and some other shows had to be booked on board using the TV which I couldn't figure out or the touch screens throughout the ship which were easy to use. luckily we got in to see most of the shows and found that even if the shows were booked there was always some room left over for walk ins. Burn the Floor and Priscilla Queen of the Desert were fantastic. We did late night comedy with Julie and Mike and they were both great. We ate in the buffet areas, Osheehans, Noodles, Moderno and Cagneys. The service was fantastic in all of them and the food was very good. The buffet had so many choices and was laid out in a way to help keep the masses of people moving. Although you had to wait in a line occasionally it never took more than a few minutes to reach the food. There was a lot of shrimp and seafood choices so if you didn't feel like going to a dining room you still got quality choices at the buffet. They had a kids section with chicken fingers and mac and cheese and fries each day too. The beverages at breakfast were OJ, cranberry juice, milk, choc milk, apple juice, coffee and tea. During the remainder of the day there was some type of Mango drink, strawberry kiwi drink, tea, lemonade, hot choc, coffee and milk. We used room service for breakfasts only, due to the $7.95 delivery fee they charge at other times. It was on time and as ordered. I enjoyed how the musicians were placed close to guests in bars and lounge areas, not being placed on a stage made the music so much more intimate. The guitarist and soloist that we saw were wonderful. The seating in the Epic lounge was comfortable with soft seats and roomy enough for large behinds and enough leg room to let people get by without having to stand up. The crew was very friendly and helpful. Most were smiling and upbeat always saying good morning, have a nice day, etc. I noticed that the crews uniforms were so well fit and clean. They were a great looking group of folks and I can honestly say that I did not encounter any rudeness or unhelpful crew or passengers. We were on a spring break trip with lots of college students and children but they were all very polite and I hardly saw the children. No playing on the elevators and annoying people at the pool ( I love kids but they can be annoying) I think they were so busy on the slides that they just stayed over in the kids area most of the time. The pool area was large and had large hot tubs. I still could not find a lounge chair by the pool or in H20. Chair hoggers...I find this is always the case on any cruise. The gym was huge and the views were great. Best gym I have ever seen. The elevators were plentiful as well. We had to take the stairs a few times like after the shows let out and on port embarkation times but other than that not long waits. We read that you can sometimes get off for disembarkation early so we were ready to go by 7am and sure enough they let us off at 7:00. 3 minute immigration line and 2 minute walk to the car and we were on our way home. tips: Go to the observation area on deck 13 to see the area where the Captains crew work. Its full of interesting info and equipment. Bring an extension cord with more outlets. Bring a sweater it gets chilly in common areas/shows. Book your entertainment before you go. TV shows were boring..don't count on any newer movies (for free) or a selection. Cups are really small. If you like to have a big cup of something out by the pool or in your room bring your own insulated cup. I was glad that I did. Bring deodorizing spray for the bathroom. Library didn't have any newer books. Bring some then donate them when you leave. Read Less

The cruise we chose was a 14 day Western & Eastern Caribbean. In fact it was two one week cruises and we had to disembark at the end of the first week and then embark for the second cruise. This process was slow and cumbersome, not helped by the fog that closed the port at the end of the first week nor by the number of passengers (4300 or so on the Norwegian Epic). This was a 25th anniversary cruise. Overall it was a good experience. The service was excellent, the room attendant could not have been more helpful & professional. The room was small and in need of a introductory manual. It took us awhile to figure out how to turn on the lights. Lots a storage. Beds were comfortable & the attendant even added a foam mattress topper when asked. We chose the to pay extra for the Thermal Spa as a way to relax and get away from the crowd. It worked well the first week but became very crowded the second week as it seems the price for the service was dropped (mentioned to us by several participants) and some staff members were also there as participants. There were time when we could not find a place to sit or lounge. The fitness area was well-equipped but be careful of the extra lectures/classes. We attended a 'How to improve your posture' class it it was mainly to way to sell shoe inserts. Were also informed tag orthotics were a waste of money. There was a track on one side of the ship were I walked each day. There was a well-used staff smoking area at one end of the track which seemed odd when focused on fitness. One small observation area on that side as tenders were secure along the side. The food was great overall. We ate at the Garden Buffet were the food variety was excellent but not always hot and sometimes over cooked. Very good experience. We also ate at Taste & the Manhattan Room & the food was really good & service excellent. The Entertainment was excellent. Many bands, Jazz, Contemporary , Rock etc. The Epic Beatles were terrific & The Cirque dinner show, Pricilla, Queen of the Desert & Burn the Floor were outstanding. Choose you excursions carefully. we had one excellent one, one good, one poor and two were cancelled because of winds (private Island). Check out the reviews. Excursion staff were really helpful and understanding and wanted to hear about the experiences. The handled all issues in a pleasant and professional manner. We will cruise again but I am not sure it will ne with Norwegian and certainly not on such a large ship. We were told by many cruisers that the experience on there smaller ships is much better. We are glad we went. The 14 days seemed about the right timing for us. Read Less

We had sailed on Regal Princess last year and had a wonderful time. As soon as we returned, we booked a cruise with our kids on Carnival for March 2018. After a few weeks, we decided we didn't want to wait two years before sailing again, so we asked our travel agent to try to find us a good deal sailing to the Eastern Caribbean for just the two of us. He found us a couple good deals. One was with Royal Caribbean Freedom of the Seas and the other was with Norwegian Epic. I had heard many bad things about Norwegian and many good things as well. We had gone on a Royal cruise for our honeymoon back in 1999 and enjoyed that, so we wanted to try Norwegian. It also had the Ultimate Beverage Package included so we chose Norwegian. I did all sorts of research on this ship and the cruise line itself. I saw pictures of the rooms and read a lot of reviews. I discounted the very bad ones and paid attention to the ones who gave unbiased reviews. I was looking forward to the cruise for over a year and finally it was time. On Saturday morning, we woke up in the hotel and I looked out the window to discover a lot of fog. You could not see the street below as the fog was so thick. I didn't think anything of it and we went about getting ready to go and checking out of our hotel and going to the car rental place to drop off our rental car and get a shuttle to the cruise port. When we got there, we discovered that everything was running very behind since the fog from that morning had not allowed the cruise ships to dock at the port so by 10:30am, they still hasn't disembarked their other passengers. It was a real mess. This port is also very small and has very high traffic. Normally the bulk of the passengers get off the ship before the new passengers show up at the cruise port. In this situation there were people leaving the ship and coming to the ship at the same time. Norwegian handled it as good as they could and after waiting in the warm terminal, eventually the fire marshal told them to allow us into the building. Once we were allowed in and got processed, we were on the ship by 1pm. Not bad really. Apparently they sent out emails to the passengers saying not to go to the port before 12:30 however, being from Canada, we did not have access to phones or email so did not get this message. They are not responsible for weather so I do not hold this against them. Once we got on board, we went to the Lido(Garden Cafe) on deck 15. We grabbed some food and ate. After which we decided to go to our rooms to see if we could get in. Our room was actually ready which was a pleasant surprise. The room itself wasn't pleasant. We got an inside cabin to try to save some money, after all, you don't spend much time in your room anyway right?? Well, it was a very small room which I was expecting. I don't hold that against them either. The thing I do hold against them is the whole bathroom situation on this ship. Whatever designer decided that this bathroom design was a good idea is hopefully no longer working on cruise ship design. This is the worst idea for a cruise ship bathroom i have every seen. The toilet is in a "room" of it's own. I use quotation marks as it is not really a room more like a closet with opaque doors that show your silhouette to any other people staying in the room with you. There is however a red curtain you can pull across for privacy but really it is not any sound proofing. The shower is the same with the opaque walls and door. There is absolutely no privacy. If you are traveling with someone other than a spouse, it is very awkward. I found it awkward even with my spouse. Bathroom time is not something I like to share with others and in this case, you have no choice. This is the main reason for the low rating on the cabin. Our room steward, Marlon, was awesome!!! He saw us every day and made sure we were happy with the room and always asking if we needed anything. He was fantastic and that if it was based on service, the cabin would have had a much higher rating. The food on the ship was okay. It was a million times better on the Princess ship but it was okay here. I am speaking of the free food. It was typical fare. The service was okay too. Nothing to be too excited about. There was one time in particular in the Taste dining room that our waiter had an extremely large amount of cologne on and therefore all I could taste was that in my food. I also have strong allergies to certain scents and this was one of them so I needed to go back to the room to get allergy medication in order to continue with our evening. The best place for us to eat on the ship was O'sheehans. This was by far the best food on the ship for free. I have to say here that we are people of simple taste, so for me to give the food a bad rating, it based on my tastes. Some people who enjoy fancy food, might think this food was great. This is based on my tastes and my likes only. We did spend a little extra and made reservations at Teppanyaki and it was absolutely my favorite meal on the ship. I got the chicken and filet mignon and it was the best tasting meal (especially the steak) I have ever eaten in my entire life. I like my steak well done which I am used to getting a tougher steak because of the way I like to eat it. But this steak was the most tender, juiciest steak I have ever eaten. I highly recommend this restaurant to anyone!! We also spent a little extra money to go to the Cirque Dreams dinner show. We have been to Cirque shows before and have not paid premium and have good seats. We didn't realize that by not paying premium seats that there would be some things you wouldn't be able to see. I would suggest paying the premium price so you don't miss anything. All in all it was a good time. Lots of audience participation. I would recommend this. The mean was okay. Not the best, but definitely good. The entertainment. There were two main shows. Burn the Floor and Priscilla Queen of the Desert. Both of these shows are terrific. The Priscilla show was offensive to some. I thought it was great and loved the message. I saw some people leave in the middle of the show. Be mindful that if you are easily offended or have a more traditional upbringing, you might not like this show, but if you are open minded, you will probably find this to be a great show. My problem with the shows was that you had to book the shows either before you got on the ship or as soon as you got there. This ship has 4100 passengers. Regal Princess held 3600. The reason Epic said they had to make you book the shows was because there wasn’t enough room for everyone to see the show. Regal had a different show every night, twice a night and I never heard anyone complain of not getting to see the show. The fact that there was only two main shows meant the nights you didn’t have anything booked, there was nothing else for you to do. Also, during the afternoon, there were hardly any enjoyable activities planned. Unless you want to sit and tan the whole time on the very crowded pool deck, you will have a hard time finding something to keep you busy. Since we had 3 sea days this made those days very long. This is the reason for the lower entertainment score. We ended up napping almost every afternoon due to lack of interest in anything going on onboard. When they did have something a little interesting it lasted all of 15 minutes. It felt like a waste of time to go and watch anything. The ports. We went to St Thomas in the US Virgin Islands and Tortola in the British Virgin Islands. Both of these ports were absolutely beautiful, however, unless you book an excursion, there is not a lot to do in the port. We tried to talk to our kids in Tortola with the wifi but the wifi was horrible and kept cutting out. This isn’t a complaint, as it was free wifi but it was the only time on the cruise that we had access to free wifi and were disappointed we couldn’t chat with them very long. We booked a snorkeling excursion in St Thomas on the Castaway Girl in Shipwreck Cove. The crew was very friendly and knowledgeable. The boat was great and the sail was peaceful and great. The complaint I have is that it was a guided tour so once you got off into the water there was a bunch of people all crowded around together so you kept getting kicked and bumped into so you could not enjoy looking down at the coral reef or the shipwreck as you had to worry about something kicking you in the face or banging into you. We spent a total of about 30 minutes in the water, not nearly long enough and it was really hard to see. I would never do a guided tour again. We did a snorkeling excursion on the Princess ship and it was terrific, we had gotten 45 minutes at two different sites and the water was so crystal clear you could see 40 feet down to the bottom of the ocean. I was disappointed with this excursion however many of the other people on board said they had a great time. So bear this in mind. This is my opinion only. The last stop was on their private island of Great Stirrup Cay. We had a little miscommunication with booking tenders. Yes you have to book tenders to go to the Island. I didn’t realize you needed to book this and when I did discover it, I wasn’t sure how to do it. Once we booked, we were on the P tender. So we have to wait for A, B, C D, etc…until P was called. As it turns out when we went for breakfast that day we discovered it was pouring rain, therefore we weren’t decided if we would be going over or not. The captain came over the intercom to say that the weather wasn’t really co-operating and it was supposed to get windier as the day went on, but the tenders were going for now and they would keep an eye on the weather. We decided to go up to the pool deck to check the weather and decide if we would go over. When we got up there, the sun was out, so we made the choice to go to the Island. We went down to the tender to find out what letter they were on and they just told us to go to the tender. We got to the island in a little bit choppy seas and wandered through the little market area. We were on the island for about 20 minutes and had just sat down on a beach chair when the ship blew their horn and crew members were yelling at everyone to head back to the ship right away as they were evacuating the island due to the wind. Luckily we were able to get up right away and walk quickly to the tender area. We were one of the first 50 or so people waiting for the tender and as we look back, all you can see is about 2000 people lined up all over the island. It was crazy. Getting off the tender was a little difficult with the wind but we made it. It took them over three hours to empty the island. It seemed a little pointless to let us go over, but again, the captain wasn’t in charge of the weather so you can’t blame them for that. The crew pulled together a day at sea itinerary, but again, not much to do. All in all, the crew was friendly and plentiful. The food was okay, and the entertainment that they had was great, but not plentiful enough and they did not have enough activities throughout the day so we were bored most of the time on the ship. I don’t think we will take another Norwegian cruise. At least not for a while. We will see what Carnival holds for us next time. Read Less

This was our 13th cruise with NCL and our 3rd cruise on Epic. The other 2 cruises on Epic were in the Mediterranean, this was our 1st Epic cruise to the Caribbean. We found this cruise to be a quite different. The venues were all a lot more crowded especially O’Sheehans and the main buffet. Our cabin location on deck 13 was awesome; mid-ship with the extra large angled balcony that allows an amazing view; we spent a lot of time out there! Never been huge fans of the wave cabin layout, especially the horrendous bathroom design, but for two people it’s not that bad - probably crowded for more than two. The bed was comfy but way too short. We prefer the sofa near the balcony model we had on a previous cruise as it seems to give more room to move about. Our room steward, Susanto, took great care of us for the entire week. No complaints; the cabin was kept well stocked and clean - with a smiling face and cheerful manner at all times. Thanks Susanto!! The Shrimp Cocktail and Prime Rib at Cagney’s was delicious. At La Bistro, we tried the Mushroom Soup and the Beef Tenderloin; excellent as usual. At both of these restaurants, the service was top notch. In the main dining, Manhattan Room, we found the food very good as well and the service was great - thanks Pablo and team! We loved O'Sheehans on previous cruises, but on this cruise, it was always crowded and took forever to get our food – they appeared to be understaffed. The menu has been changed, no more prime rib nights and a few other things. However, the bartenders here were very attentive as were those in the casino bar and the buffet bar. The casino host, Cristina, deserves special mention. A very professional yet fun person, she made our week when she sent special birthday treats to our cabin for hubby’s 60th birthday. NCL also did a great job decorating the cabin as a birthday surprise. Took advantage of one of the spa specials for a massage and facial. Jelena was super; I think I may have fallen asleep at one point; it was that relaxing! Really felt good after that hour of pampering. We had another great NCL cruise thanks to some excellent crew members and we still like Epic; but she is getting a little tired in areas and we probably will not sail on her again in the Caribbean as the itinerary is quite limited. Looking forward to our next NCL adventure in May. Read Less

I chose this ship because it was the epic, i have gone on smaller boats the most recent pearl and loved it. I wanted to try a larger ship to see if it had more on board to keep me occupied at days at sea. The boat was clean for the most part easy enough to navigate, to get to areas like the gym you did have to access though room halls. Dining reviews: The garden cafe was always clean same food everyday, the "buffet nights" were pretty much a joke, seafood night was, shrimp, oysters, and a salmon bake, along with the always there pizza, and burgers. we did go to the crepe bar with two crepe stations that were usually empty and now i know why, the crepe batter is good, but they use just pile filling, which was thick and gross and I had to scrape most of it out. Just another short cut for them.{{{ We went for valentines day to La Cusina the Italian restaurant. We made a reservation about 2 months in advance for 8 pm. we got a call early in the week asking us to change reservations and they would give us wine because they had overbooked. We declined because we wanted to eat there on valentines day. The only time we saw the restaurant manager was when he apologized for us waiting and then he disappeared. when we arrived at 8 the line was about 15 people long, we were seated at 8:30, received bread at 9pm, and occasionally got our water glasses filled every 15-20 minutes. Not off to a good start. we were looking around the room and noticed a person who was seated before us, wearing cutoffs and a tied dyed tee shirt, there were quite a few people in tee shirts and jeans and it made the whole restaurant experience feel cheap. Apparently the dress code is never enforced even when there are people on time and waiting for seats. at 930 our appetizers arrived. Dead cold. we sent them back and in about 15 minutes new ones came out, I got a Spinach and butter pasta dish, the pasta was great the sauce was warm, and the Spinach was actually a whole bunch of basil. I just ate around it. The server came and asked if we wanted anything from the bar, I said we should at least get a free glass of wine because of this service but no we didn't get anything. I was seated so I could see the two chefs who were restocking the desserts, desserts that were in no short supply, and for about a hour and a half they were both there, sitting talking to each other, they didn't help the servers or help fill water or go into the kitchen to help the other chefs, perhaps not in their job description so they didn't care. This point the restaurant is only 1/6th filled. at 10 our main courses arrived I ordered a Filet Mignon, It tasted like hamburger beef. I don't know how they made it taste so bad but they did. I ate as most as I could, and my husbands pasta he described as okay. not great. My husband ordered many more courses and than I and since I didn't want to finish dinner at midnight I just told them to send them all out. at this point, when we got our food we were angry tired and disappointed that the only time in 10 years we have gone out for valentines day was a disaster. We didn't stay for desert we wanted to leave, I got up and walked off turned around to fine my husband gone, and said that the server took his card to be charged, and I said charged? like hell we are paying for this meal. (we had a meal package) when the hostess saw us fighting she came over and was completely confused any of this happened, and unhelpful. He signed the bill left no tip and we left. Later he filled out a complaint at guest services got his prepaid tip back and the value of the meal. it was the least they could do.}}} We went to the Speigal Tent for the next night the performance was amazing, (I love circ) I will say, no where did it say that it was not all that child friendly, you expect the belly dancers and ect, but at the end of the performance and shirtless man, writhed in a bath tub washing his chest and squeezing water all over himself, there is no way that it could be perceived as anything other than being erotic.I found most of the entertainment on board crossed the family friendly line, not a good cruise for kids if you want to take them to any shows. The menu was preset and the steak very good! I was kinda in shock that so far this was the best food we had, however we had the biggest problem with our food there. In the appetizer, the lettuce wrapped with a cucumber peel was not washed. and I don't mean not washed well, the entire thing was all grit and dirt, so much so I had to spit it out and wash my mouth out with water. BASIC FOOD SAFETY YOU WASH THE PRODUCE! if they didn't bother doing this, who knows how terrible kitchen standards are.}}} I did however had a great experience at the Cagney steakhouse or should I say the quality we expect for a premium restaurant, so much so I almost cried on the waitress. Steak was great, sides were good, dessert was good, and Delores our waitress asked if we had a show to go to to make sure we could leave in time. it was the best meal we had. Our friends when to the Brazilian steakhouse and described it as "so salty there was never enough water" }}} Now for the entertainment, the good stuff. The comics were great, Mike was the best on board, how ever the warm up Ryan i believe, Alaskan white guy, his comedy crossed the family friendly line the most, even if they don't have it listed as adult comedy, if your kids are older you may not want them hearing some of this stuff. (ex, sex and prostate exams) We went to burn the floor, it was a combination of all dances from the past and now, wonderful dancers costumes and the singers were amazing. however crossed the line again. I know dancers should have sexy costumes and i would deem most of them what I expected for a dancer, I don't care how small or revealing it is, its a dance costume. But at about the middle of the show, the female dancers came out in school girl costumes. the kind they sell for Halloween. now this was a little irksome. but hey it was a dance between school boys and girls so I will roll with it. Until the boys took off the girls tops and some of them danced in their bras. obviously it was a very um Latin dance. (you get it) Not something I want my daughter to see. I don't understand how school girl strip tease made in on a NCL program. It seems like a no brainier to keep it family friendly. }}}} The ports St Thomas, We went to magens beach, it was nice no rough seas voted on of the most beautiful beaches, it is but the water isn't crystal clear which is sort of what i was hoping for, no snorkeling spots here. You can pay the NCL fee or you can pay $5 per person for the park and $8 per person each way via taxi. Much cheaper. Tortola. we went to the baths, it was terrifying. there were 200 in our group alone and there was another cruise ship there, they don't tell you when you actually go through the caves you will have to climb up and down ladders go through very narrow and low rocks and have to carry all your stuff to the beach if you don't go down the easy path. (which we didn't see or know about) there were a lot of bigger and older people who could not make it and had to turn around. YOU WILL HAVE TO CRAW AT SOME POINTS. the woman in front of me had a panic attack because she was claustrophobic, and since we were crammed in it took a while to get her out. Since there was another tour group we were constantly slammed with other people trying to make it out. there apparently was a one way path and i believe they were back tracking since our group was following arrows. the beach was very small there were people less than a foot from our stuff. waves were very rough, once you got out the snorkeling was okay. Would I recommend it? NO WAY. We were most looking forward to great stirrup cay, we had been their before and loved the lagoon. too bad it was closed for turning it into more cabanas and building a bar on top. i loved to float in the nice warm water and that was gone. It really made the island special, and now it looks like just another over designed cabana resort. we did have a photo shoot there with Olga from perspective studios, a lot of the photos came out well considering how bright it was we ended up having a lot of fun thanks to her and it really made the trip better. we did purchase a photo package. now the biggest thing that really pissed me off. I entered the ms biceps competition. before i entered i made sure that it was not going to be of any sexual type of contest. Mr sexy legs i saw earlier that week and it was basically a lap dance competition. I asked the MC running it, a man, if it would be anything like MR. sexy legs, or if there was any sexy dancing involved he told me no that it was not anything like mr sexy legs. that it was completely different. HIS EXACT WORDS. I said okay if its no sexy dancing or anything I will do it. I ended up being first, and the woman who i believe was assistant cruise directer showed how to do it by walking up and striking poses, she jokingly (or maybe not) started to remove her belt, the MC was like no no don't do that. i was first in line and as soon as I get up the MC shouts that i have to dance for each male judge. EXCUSE ME WHAT. I tried to be a good sport but I was so shocked i sort of just walked around posed and left. He did that to ever single woman. the woman behind me in her 50's was so upset. Some women danced some didn't, one woman did a strip tease with her dress and that was totally up to her. what she wants to do is her choice. after all the dancing (main activity) and the 3 poses we all lined up and then were asked to dance again at this point im staring at my husband just waving completely uncomfortable.(i did not dance) they chose the three best by round of applause and chose from those three best bikini best dancer and ms biceps. now i saw the judges that had the signs and I thought they were like throw away prizes like "good effort" ect. and yes this was a complete beauty and dance contest (which i would have been fine with if they had told me straight up so i wouldn't have joined.) after it was over i pulled aside the guy i spoke to and chewed him out. It was degrading and sexist, and he said he didn't remember saying anything to me before the contest. seriously? am i being a sore loser, no I'm not, the woman who won had very nice biceps and she participated more than i did and looked like she had fun. she totally deserved it. but I am mad I was lied to. I asked him straight up if there would be dancing and he lied. after that I was so pissed i grabbed my stuff and left. he followed me to a elevator and tried to give me a tee shirt. THIS IS NOT about a tee shirt this is about intentionally lying to someone and put them in a position to make them completely uncomfortable. I filled a complaint form with the cruise directer but i never heard back. Not surprising. Will I ever go back to NCL, No I will not. Read Less

The ship was very clean and the service was excellent in all areas of the ship...the food was average to fair at best...selection was so repetitive and the same daily and just kind of blah. The shows were so hard to get in to and booked up that we only got to see 2 shows the whole week. The ship again was very clean and well kept and the room steward was great and kept our room very clean. Excursions were wonderful. We went ziplining and went to the Gorda baths and did snorkeling. The ports were just beautiful. Docking and getting on and off the ship was very simple. Very hard working staff in all areas of the ship. I lost my bracelet in the bathroom and the crew turned it in...very honest staff....helpful and caring staff...our biggest complaint was the quality and variety of the food just didn't meet our expectations.
