A group of us that are Super fans from NFL teams chose to cruise to the Bahamas, Over all the experience was not great. Food was decent, but service was slow or non existent. Ship was clean but the crew did not seem friendly and seemed disinterested, They did not make you feel welcome. This did not include everyone, just the majority. We did find some that seemed to have fun and made you feel special. Our steward never seemed to materialize but the room was clean and presentable. This was just a very disappointing cruise. Food was as I said decent, Osheehans was our favorite. The buffet was goos as well and the Shanghai Noodle Bar was also one of our favorites. Debarkation was horrendous. No organization and there was major chaos. At this time I would not recommend Norwegian Cruise Lines and our plan is we will not be cruising with them again. I have been on 2 Carnival Ships, 1 Princess and 1 Royal Caribbean, All of those I would recommend. Read Less

20-30 minutes for a drink. Never left the ship for their "private island". Called the front desk because there was dry blood on our sheets, we could never get through, it just rang and then a message said everyone was busy, try again later. Eventually had to take sheet from a cart in the hallway. Getting off the ship was horrifying. We needed to be on the 5th floor to get off the ship. We tried to get off the ship early by carrying our own luggage off. Traffic was so backed up that we we're standing in the back of the ship, on the 7th floor stairwell. And they kept calling more groups to get off the ship. I would think just a couple weeks after crushing 2 moorings and damaging the ship, their service would be on point. That was not the case. Drink package would have been worth it if it didn't take 30 minutes to get a drink. Food was good. But I can get good food anywhere. Please do not take a Norwegian cruise line adventure.... Ever.. I'll start with the things I enjoyed about about the ship. 1) I enjoyed the drink package! But, sometimes the wait at the bars were crazy. It was tolerable but could have been better. 2) The balcony view. It was wonderful sitting out every morning and night. 3) In the beginning, the staff was very nice. 4) The food at the specialty dining restaurants was very good. The buffet was average...not terrible. Now for the things I didn't like.... 1) I was really disappointed that we didn't make it to the private beach Great Stirrup Cay. I believe it was to keep everyone safe. However, some people didn't share my thoughts on it. I'm glad they kept everyone safe but I wish they would have given us a shorten beach day for a couple of hours. It did rain really hard later that evening. I understand they don't want the liability. 2) My room wasn't as clean as I would have liked. I believe they forget the mirrors. 3) The rooms are really tight. I would suggest to select the mini suite or better. (Showers are larger in mini suite) 4) The room steward didn't even speak to us on the depart day. It was like it flipped a switch. 5) The whole disembarkation process was terrible. If felt like they had never had people leave the ship before....it was over an hour to get down from the 8th floor to the 6th floor. 6) Again, the bars and the small pools just can't accommodate the amount of people on the ship. If you can afford The Haven....I'm sure there's no problem there. If I try another NCL cruise, it will be Bliss. Cruise Date: March 7-11 (Epic) Read Less

Door lock in suite had to be replaced at midnight one maint guy on duty had 3 jobs to do before us, took til 1am to fix. Over crowded could not find a place to layout on deck. Get a drink took 45 min before anyone would acknowledge us. Heard from many staff when asked for service...I'm going on break I will get someone else to help you and noone came back. Then delayed to get off ship almost missed our shuttle to parking lot. Horrible experience! I will stick with Celebrity and Royal Caribbean for cruises in the future. Met up with 3 other families and was part of the game convention. The cruise was nothing special, too many people for the staff. Long waits for drinks little or no service from staff and the wait for all restaurants was unacceptable, 30-60 minutes before waiters and then 30-60 minutes before food arrived. On top of that our stop at the cay was canceled due to high waves. You would think a company as big as this would have a dock. Built so your customers could enjoy the private island you own So we spent two days cruising up and down the Florida coast. I’ve done several cruises and won’t be back in Norwegian . Then the debarkation was a complete and utter unorganized mess. Lines wrapped around the deck no crew to direct or ensure lines were organized. Overall poor experience if it had been my first cruise I would probably never cruise again . I will pay the premium going forward and cruise on Holland America. Read Less

Overall a very mediocre experience on a quick 3-day trip. I can honestly say that with the exception of the BBQ on the private Cay on day 2 every meal was just bad. Just really quite bad. Excessively greasy and under-flavored at every meal. I regularly marveled at how even basic things like eggs and hah browns were terrible - they're pretty easy to get right. Wait times at sit-down service venues was very long and many of the servers spoke very limited or just poor English so orders got screwed up at all of our meals. But it wouldn't have mattered anyway, because the food was seriously just gross. Service was mediocre. Don't recall a single employee smile anywhere in the 3 day journey. Not exaggerating. The app is terrible and the internet package is only good for 250 minutes and can only be used by one cabin occupant at a time. The on-shop app is terrible, too. Early 2000's technology at best. Biggest highlight was the unlimited drink package, but we needed the drinks to distract from everything else. 80s night was fun, others were forgettable. Only my second cruise, first being on Princess, and definitely my last on NCL. #EpicFail Read Less

This was the first experience on NCL and it will surely not be the last. From the check in to the disembark customer service was at the forefront. I was never not greeted or asked was I alright or did I need anything. My stateroom was ABSOLUTELY BEAUTIFUL (10278) I want this room every time I cruise on Epic. Our steward was there to attend to us whenever needed. The dining options, be it buffet or specialty were top shelf. In my opinion NCL is the cruise line to beat. I have a dietary restriction and it was fully handled by the staff with no hesitation. I did not take part in any of the shows but from my fellow cruisers I heard that they were good. My only complaint was the DJ in Bliss was not playing music to satisfy all that were in attendance. NCL, I thank you for giving me the best birthday cruise ever and I will be back next March to do it all again! Read Less

This was our second Norwegian Cruise- the first was on Norwegian Sky which was a terrible experience as well but we blamed the weather for the most part. We have been on almost a dozen of other cruises between Carnival & the most recent on the Royal Caribbean Allure of the Seas. We thought we would give Norwegian a second chance on the Epic- which looked like an amazing ship! 2 days into the cruise and my husband and I decided it would be our last Norwegian Cruise! Getting on the boat was just like every other cruise- we were on by 12-1pm. There was no entertainment by the pools- not a dj not a band. The Sail away party was a complete bust! There wasn't one!! There was a small space in between the 2 pool bars and the deck to walk through into the buffet area which was always a hassle to get through- especially with 2 children under the age of 10. Moving onto the inside of the boat- which was very nice! Always clean- however the staterooms were the size of a walk-in closet- and that may be exaggerating a touch. You walked into the room and to your left was the shower with a frosted glass door and to your right was the toilet with a frosted glass door as well- the sink which was no bigger than 12" wide was at the end of your bed! Super weird!! You had to take turns walking through the room because two people could not fit through the end of the bed and the cupboard/dresser area at the same time. These were by far the smallest rooms we have ever seen! There was definitely not enough storage for 4 people! Our stateroom was a balcony and we have never stayed in a interior room but I have to believe there are interior rooms bigger than this balcony room! The entertainment on this boat was good- I was very impressed with the amount of different music blends. However there was hardly any entertainment by the poolside! No activities by the pool and very rarely was there a dj or band. The bar service on this boat was AWFUL! If you tried to get a drink by one of the two pool side bars you would wait for atleast a half an hour! There was hardly any waiters throughout the pool deck offering drink service. This was our last Norwegian cruise- never again!! Read Less

This review includes Tips and Tricks from the NCL Epic sailing date March 10, 2018. The cruise was during Spring Break and there were a lot of Spring Breakers on the cruise. Three large groups were on the ship, a podcast group (Tom and Dan), a board gamers convention (CruisieCon 8), and a poker players group. Some 550 people were from the Tom and Dan podcast which is a humorous, adult oriented morning type show. This group will be on the same cruise in 2019. In general, the passengers were cool and chill and which made this cruise awesome. The people make the cruise. I heard an estimate that 75% of the adults got the Ultimate Beverage Package (UBP). NCL offered many passengers a freebie and most took the UBP. But keep in mind you still have to pay gratuities/taxes which comes out to ~$71 for a 4 night cruise, when booking through the NCL website. On NCL, 18-20 year olds may drink outside of the port. I enjoyed having the Spring Breakers on board. Now on to some tips and tricks. Many things take reservations including shows, tenders, and some restaurants. The shows can be reserved online before the cruise with the exception of the comedy shows. Many of the things that take reservations you don't really need reservations for. But I would recommend making reservations for the 18+ comedy shows and restaurants for dinner. When first getting on the ship, I would recommend grabbing the Freestyle Daily on Deck 5 that has the daily schedule and head over to the Headliners comedy club to make reservations for the shows. For embarkation, NCL starts letting passengers on the ship at 11:30 a.m. When booking cruise you pick a boarding time with the earliest at 9:30 a.m. Not sure if I see any value to the pre-selected boarding times as embarkation is just a big herd of people lined up to get on the ship at 11:30 a.m. Using the porters to take your bags is a good idea but keep the things you need until late afternoon when bags are delivered to your door. Had to wait until all cabins were cleaned before the passengers could go to their cabins ~2 pm. The Howl at the Moon dueling piano bar is popular so I would recommend getting there 10-20 minutes early. As for smuggling alcohol on board, NCL Epic are really tough about this and it would be very difficult to smuggle alcohol on board. They do not allow water bottles on board. What they catch is returned on the last day of the cruise at 5 p.m. at the Towel Station on Deck 15 as long as it is a sealed container. When I returned from Nassau, the x-rays caught many passengers with alcohol in their bags; beer had to be disposed of but hard alcohol returned on the last of cruise. Passengers who bring bottles of wine at embarkation are charged $15 corkage fee for each 750 mL bottle. NCL has the iConcierge App for smartphones. The app only works while connected to the ship's Wifi but you can use the app with the ship's Wifi for free; no need to purchase the Wifi package. Wifi signal on the ship is spotty, understandably due to all the steel walls. NCL is known for innovation and NCL Epic is the only ship of its design. The ship first sailed in 2010 but is in excellent shape. I did sneak up to the Haven and just peaked into the lounge and the small dining room. These areas are nice and upscale. To sneak up there wait at the elevators on Deck 15 outside the buffet area and jump in an elevator that is already going up. There is a neighborhood for solo travelers with a Solo Lounge which is awesome. This has a bartender from 5-7 pm each night with Vladimir, the best bartender on the ship. In general this area is busy with people socializing and making friends each evening from 5-7 pm but otherwise is slow. The cruise staff, Ruby, helps organize and reserve a table for solo travelers each evening. The lounge also has cookies, breakfast muffins, cereal, orange juice and coffee. A high end coffee machine freshly grounds coffee beans and coffee drinks with frothy milk. I am a coffee drinker but was not really big on this machine; also did not see this machine being used often. As for the shows, the comedy shows are mostly clean / family shows but there were two 18+ shows. The headliners were good. If you like drag shows, you will like Priscilla Queen of the Desert. Burn the Floor was an excellent dance show. The ship no longer has Blue Man Group. Many passengers were ordering mixed drinks, there were long wait times for drinks and the bartenders were slow. Overall, a great cruise and I'm booked again for the same cruise next year. Read Less

The service was not very good. Called guest services for distilled water when arriving on ship. Never got till the next day when I asked the cabin boy for it. He had for me within 5 minutes. My husband needed it for his sleep apnea machine. Because there were 1600 spring breakers on the ship it was very hard to get a drink. Each bar only had 2 bartenders and they seem to cater to the young ones. Ship needed to be more prepared for the young drinking crowd. A cudos to the crew for recovered the person who fell overboard. They did an awesome job retrieving her in the pitch dark blackness of the ocean. The ship was way to large for us as we kept getting lost trying to find our room. Will definitely use a smaller ship next time and not during spring break ever again. Thanks for asking my opinion. Read Less

I chose this cruise because it was a 3 day (perfect for my home situation--care giver). It was a great price for a balcony suite (that's what they call it--to me it was just a balcony room with lots of storage space) and you could include different "freebies". I chose the drink package and gratuities. Those two things worked out well. The room was very odd. When you opened your cabin door, immediately on the left was a toilet behind see through open/close doors. Immediately on the right was a tub/shower. The tub was about 3 foot high and you had to step into it to get to the shower. This was difficult of some in our group (including me)--had to have help getting into or out of tub. The casino is in the center of one of the decks, so everyone is walking around you or standing behind you while you gamble. It is not a separate room where you would go only if you wanted to gamble. The food was good in the different dining rooms; I was not impressed with the food in the buffet. I did, however, like the way the buffet room was set up, so that while you were seated eating, no one could see you. The only other odd thing to me was that you had to go to guest relations to pick up your departure luggage tags. I was with a group of 14 and we all had a good time, but only 4 would go on that ship again. Read Less

We picked the Norwegian Epic because it offered all the amenities that we wanted in a cruise....a short jaunt with 2 Bahamian stops, thermal spa, and a relief from the winter for a few days. Unfortunately, things don't always go as planned. We couldn't go into our first port of call (private island) because the ocean swells were so bad so we spent a day at sea. The next day we were to go into Nassau and it, too, was cancelled due to a narrow passageway in mixed with ocean swells. We had another day at sea and the captain arranged for us to try Nassau the next day. Luckily we were able to get into Nassau the next day but our excursions were cancelled due to what the weather did to the beaches. That left us on the boat again for the 4th day in a row. As for the ship it was a big disappointment. It was our first time sailing on a Norwegian ship and we will not do it again. Most of the customers were intoxicated Spring Breakers. I can't tell you how many people complained about this for we never signed up for a Spring Break Booze Cruise as this turned out to be. If you did want a drink you needed to stand in line 20 minutes to get one for the lines were so long. They do not have enough bartenders and staff on this ship. We never saw a cocktail waiter at the pools....they don't exist! Norwegian lets you on the ship early (around noon) so you can have lunch but you are not allowed to your room until after 2:00pm ! My husbands luggage was delivered around 4:30 but mine was no where to be seen. Tracked down our room steward and he said they were still delivering luggage and not to worry. At 6:00 I tried calling him and the operator to no avail. No one was answering phones. Finally, my husband went searching and found my luggage in a pile of pieces not delivered at the end of our long hallway. No time to change for our 7 pm dinner reservation! The only other time we saw our room steward was when leaving on our last day. He asked then if we had a nice cruise!!!! He was just looking for a tip! Congestion on this ship is terrible. There are only 2 main stairways/elevators and they are located at opposite ends of the ship. Nothing to get you up/down in the middle. The ship's casino is large and placed in the middle of the ship open to the floors above it where the restaurants are. Smoke filled these floors and it was disgusting. Eating in any of these restaurants was unpleasant! Another weird thing about this ship is that there isn't a outside area you can walk around the entire ship for exercise. One side of the ship on the 7th floor is designated a walk/run track but you have to go up and down the same side - STRANGE!! We had a spa balcony suite which was extremely narrow and strangely laid out. When you walked into the room the toilet was on one side and the shower on the other.....right in the main room!! No privacy here! The sink was very small and across from the bed! This ship was designed for maximum passengers and NO comfort. Even the hallways were narrow and curvy. We asked to have the balcony door opened between our room and our friend's room and were told they weren't allowed to do it! Why on every other ship they can do it and not this one is a mystery to me!! My husband and I are average height people and our feet hung over the end of the bed! These beds were designed for this narrow room!!! I feel sorry for anyone over 6' tall! We paid extra for our spa suite so we could have unlimited access to their thermal/hydro pools and steam rooms. The pool water was never warm like other ships we have been on. Even their hot tubs throughout the ship were lukewarm. They had many thermal beds but they, too, were only lukewarm. It was not like the thermal suites we have experienced on other ships and not worth the upgrade. Food was fine....average cruise fare but the cafe's food lines were poorly laid out making for congestion! The best thing this ship had to offer were their shows!!! Entertainment was excellent. The shows Burn The Floor and Priscella, Queen of the Desert were jaw dropping! These entertainers belonged on Broadway! I have never been on a ship like this before and have been on many cruises on many cruise lines. This was by far the worse cruise we have ever been on AND to top it off on our way home after Nassau, a woman fell OVERBOARD!!!! I am sure she was INTOXICATED because you had to want to fall overboard otherwise. The captain and crew did an excellent job at SAR and found the woman alive within an hour. A miracle after falling 16 floors. Read Less

We were encouraged to accompany a friend on the cruise--a milestone birthday celebration. And one member in our party also ran into a former work colleague. As such, we always enjoyed great company during our cruise, falling into a regular schedule to meet for meals, sunbathing, happy hours, and evening entertainment. Having previously cruised on other lines, we really enjoyed NCL's variety of meals (package-deal buffets, readily available thru the day, package-deal restaurants, etc.) and especially the flexible timing for dining (no assigned "early vs. late" shifts). We also opted for the drink package, again enjoying the variety offered (especially as the rougher Nor'easter seas nixed our island stop and delayed our Nassau day-in-port). As such, the variety of beverages and locations of bars made our days at sea quite relaxing. Speaking of the drink package, we found our mixologist, Vladimir, to be a most cordial and talented server thruout the cruise. Also adding entertainment to our review, guitarist/vocalist Ben was a nightly treat for us (especially his tributes to Tom Petty and the Rolling Stones). I regret I didn't get the names of our servers in that centrally-located bar, but they also were first-rate, especially in so promptly serving the many patrons who likewise were there for Ben's sets. And per the reports it spawned, the ship's Captain and crew are to be highly commended for their handling of the final evening's challenging recovery at sea. In short, we definitely recommend NCL and look forward to return cruises with the line, thanks. Read Less

While the ship itself was very nice, that's where the pleasantries ended. I'm not sure if the staff was under trained, understaffed or just didn't care. There were many, many times we stood in line waiting to be served and we're never acknowledged. And when we did get served, either the service was very, very slow or the order was not correct. O'sheehans was THE WORST. We were celebrating a friend's birthday and it was just disappointing. The insanely large number of college students was ridiculous. You couldn't even get to the bar to get a drink nor get food on the outside buffet by the pool. Although I don't blame NCL completely for the number of college students, a heads up would have been nice. I don't think we will sail with NCL again. We will stick to Carnival or Royal Caribbean. At least Carnivals workers are very pleasant and helpful. Read Less

I choose this cruise because it offered studio rooms. The room was adorable. I loved it. It was very small , but fine for one person. The lighting could be adjusted to three different levels so even tho it was an inside room I was never in pitch darkness. Why doesn't every ship have this option! I would definitely cruise more if there were studio rooms. Based on a previous cruise I took on a Princess ship, I expected 4-star dining in the main dining room. I was disappointed. The food was merely OK, like I would get if I attended a conference in a hotel. One night I went to a noodle restaurant --it was part of the no-cost options. The meal was good, except I ordered chow fun noodles and the dish that was served did not have chow fun noodles. The buffets were always crowded and near impossible to find a table to sit at. The selections were fine. On a positive side, the desserts were great in all the dining options. The entertainment options were great. I loved the shows and the comedians. I can't comment on the late night parties. I'm in my 70's and I like to go to bed by 11pm and that was when the parties were just starting. I wish there was a quiet lounge for after dinner. On the Princess, there was a piano bar with a singer that did old standards and even took requests. I didn't find anything like that on the Epic. I was also disappointed with the pools on board. I expected bigger and better. There was an adult only deck (H2O Spice). I went there. The pool was too small for swimming, but just right for water aerobics provided I got there early when it was not crowded. It was 4 feet deep so people mainly just got into the pool and then just stood in the water. Read Less

I was attending a convention, so I did not choose this ship myself. I am typically not interested in very large ships, but was looking forward to having the opportunity to experience some of the amenities that only large ships can provide. I found that the Norwegian Epic did indeed have some nice areas/venues/activities...but in general, everything felt understaffed and crowded. The bars were always 3 deep, making it a pushing match to get a drink. They had difficulty getting our unlimited drink package coded correctly, so I waited in line at Guest Services on day 1 for 45 minutes; repeated this line for 20 min. on day 2, and had to go back on day 3 (luckily less than 10 minutes this time). That being said...some of the best features include good food, nice main dining rooms, many entertainment options, and the adults-only pool was quite nice. The Casino was probably the largest and nicest one I have seen on a ship (of course it's also the largest ship I've been on...). Although it was NOT non-smoking, the breeze-way design kept it from being smoky. Headliners Comedy Club hosted several shows per night, including Howl at the Moon dueling pianos. The Irish pub was also a nice eating/drinking/hang out area. This was my first experience with "free-style" cruising...and I must say it was quite stressful! There were so many reservations that seemed necessary...dinner time at one of the two main dining rooms or about four speciality restaurants, shows in at least three venues, with different show times (and sometimes different shows on the same night). Trying to get reservations that didn't conflict with each other or to coordinate with another party in a different cabin had us going crazy! Here is the most important tip I can offer, though, forget about reservations! After about 3 days, we learned that we could pretty much just walk into one of the main dining rooms and get seated at any time. AND we could pretty much walk into any show 10 minutes before it started and get seated. Once we figured this out, we enjoyed the cruise SO MUCH MORE! Freestyle cruising might not be so bad after all. Now, if you really want to see a particular show or eat in a particular specialty restaurant, log on about 60 days before and make those reservations. But once onboard, just relax and enjoy. Overall, I would not recommend this ship too highly, mainly because the design forces so many people into the center of the ship, making everything feel so crowded; and as it seemed so understaffed, service was lacking (the dining room staff excepted - they were marvelous as usual). However, if you find a good deal on an itinerary you like, you can make it enjoyable. Enjoy good food, find some of the less crowded places (we especially enjoyed Maltings Lounge and also grabbing a few cocktails and heading to our balcony to enjoy beautiful sunsets), skip the reservations and go with the flow...and you can have a memorable trip. And where else could you go to an Ice Bar or bowl a few frames in the middle of the Caribbean! Read Less
