Myself and my friend had a week stay in Salou then jumped on board the Epic at Barcelona for a week. My first thoughts on day one was of excitement and thought the ship looked amazing. I couldn’t wait to sample all the ship had to offer. So here the story begins. We had paid for all inclusive. Including tips and “ultimate food and beverages package inc coffee” - Epic’s wording. Well this didn’t include every brand of alcohol (not that I’m a huge drinker). It only included coffee from the machine at the snack bar (which one cup could have tarred the whole M25) If you wanted a cappuccino or latte etc you had to pay extra. Also not all the restaurants were included in this all inclusive package either. Quite a few you had to pay extra for and pay an extremely handsome price too! We were told it was our travel agent that should have told us that all inclusive wasn’t actually all inclusive. And our ultimate drinks package wasn’t actually very ultimate. As for the food on board, what we did have we couldn’t fault at all. Next complaint......TOO MANY PEOPLE ON BOARD. Now I know what a can of sardines feels like. It just had far too many people on it. This just made it all feel like a huge cattle market. People had no manners and just barged there way in to anything. I have never seen so many rude and ill mannered adults and children in one place. I don’t think they realised that there was enough food to go round everyone about 10 times over. Next complaint- I had items stolen from my cabin. Nothing if any great value, just small gifts I had bought for my son and some friends. Maybe 40 euros in total so not a financial loss. Never got to the bottom of it. And lastly, if you did have anything to sort out (or complain about), you were never alone......the queue at guest services was never quiet or short. I wonder why!! The great thing about the cruise was getting off the ship and seeing some beautiful places. So folks....word of warning....double check and triple check what you are actually getting in your package before you board. Read Less

This itinerary through Italy, Spain, and Cannes was really appealing to us. Checked off a lot of boxes for us. Cruising allowed us to visit many sites (Pompeii, Vatican, Florence, and more) conveniently. I am a teacher and I have a very defined time that I can travel each summer. This specific schedule fit our calendar perfectly. Our cabin was clean, the food was excellent, the ship set sail and docked efficiently and on time. The security of having record of us boarding and disembarking at each port gave us peace of mind. The cons for us was that the ship was crowded. And every time we had a question, no one could answer or resolve anything except going and standing in line at Guest Services. I must have done that once a day! They are most competent, but less than friendly. It was usually a demeaning experience! The other aspect of this trip that really got us started off in a less than relaxing manner was having us wait for nearly four hours on the ship, just milling around with our carry on luggage, without being able to go to our rooms. We were led to believe from all of the info sent to us that we would be separated from our luggage for a time period and to have things with us that we would need, but we were never alerted to the time lag for getting into our room and being able to chill a little. I'm sure there's some reason for it, but it was not a great start to our trip. We grew so weary of being nickel and dimed throughout the week. Internet should be included. $30/day for Internet access is ridiculous. So is the mini-bar charges for beer, wine, and other drinks that are available at no extra charge at the bar. There are so many ways you can streamline general operations to make things a little more convenient and relaxing for guests and still make your money. For the most part, I felt like cattle being herded around - on the boat, off the boat, into a bus, waiting for dinner (although I will say meals were handled quite efficiently and the dining staff really had wonderful, welcoming customer service skills!). I felt tolerated, not warmly welcomed. Others we spoke with along the way had the same general feeling. I can say that this cruise served its purpose for us. We might do another when we have some ground we want to cover. But the experience itself was not the quiet, relaxing vacation we anticipated. This was, by far, the most expensive vacation we have ever had and, frankly, expected a tad more welcoming and pampering, but really I was the most average overall experience we have had in our travels, except for the sites we got to see. Those we will remember! The staff works so very hard and I appreciate their effort so much. But one of the crew told me that they are signed on for one-year contracts and work with only two half-days off each week, for 10 months straight. I think they need some time off occasionally to recharge their batteries a little more for themselves and for the guests. Read Less

We traveled May 18-26 -Staff is friendly and nice -u spent the most in excursions Take a private guide and even taking a taxi is better than taking the excursions the ship offers (u feel like one of members of horse Herd) -cruise tries to charge u in anything possible. U go to restaurant - boom $15 charge per person even though my package included gratuities. We tipped all the way but they do anyway. Go to the desk and ask to sign a form to pay on ur own - that’s $210 deduction on the spot for 2ppl - room is terribly small. Don’t even think taking a stateroom, upgrade to bigger and with balcony. Otherwise u will feel trapped - get a package for specialty dining, it’s truly better and delicious - internet is TERRIBLE, never works in the room. My emails didn’t update for couple of days. I tried disputing the charges with the cruise, THEY DIDNT —- I’m definitely disputing charges with my credit card company. I took photos of my phone and the last date it updated emails. - the worst experience when ship arrived to Cannes. There is no port there so ppl are being transported on little ships (which fit around 200 ppl). The line is outrageous and the wait was tiring. We waited 50m on the line, got pisses off and left tanning on the ship - shows are great. Especially the dancing and cirque shows Read Less

Not even sure where to start for this review. Let's start with embarkation process, normal and not to bad. This ship had 4100 guests on it. By far more than anyone needs to deal with. Every restaurant we ate at was at least a 2 plus hour dining experience. Once you received your food you never saw your waiter again. It took forever for them to take your order and then forever to receive your food and then you never saw staff again. I understand that with 4100 people there will be a wait with anything you do. Entertainment: The shows themselves were Excellent! Priscilla and Burn the Floor were absolutely amazing!! BUT no matter what you do on this cruise you HAVE to have reservations or you will most likely not be able to see it. The comedy shows we waited in line over 45 minutes PRIOR to the show and still only standing room only. The Room: We had a balcony. GORGEOUS views but the toilet and shower were literally surrounding the front door so if someone was showering you can't leave unless you expose the person in the shower. The disembarkation: a literal safety hazard. Took us over 2 hours to leave and we were all stuck in the stairwells. Terrible. Excursions: We felt rushed on everyone of the excursions. There were to many people and we were all kicking and pushing each other when trying to snorkel. Overall, I would try NCL again but never a cruise ship with this many people. Having to get to a comedy club an hour or more before it starts just to get a seat is ridiculous. Read Less

Overall, this was one of the more average cruises I have been on. Everything was clean and well kept and I had a lot of fun. However, I think I would have had fun no matter what as I went with a group of 8 friends. Below I will list pros and cons: Pros: -Clean -Mostly friendly staff -Drinks were made well -Food was tasty and always cooked well -Entertainment was great -Freestyle dining option Cons: -Disembarkment was AWFUL!!! I could write an entirely negative review just for this process. It is the last thing I remember about my trip and makes me not want to go on this cruise line because of it. No one was being told where to go. We were told for "easy disembarkment" to go to the 6th floor with all of our luggage. It took 35 minutes just to get in an elevator. once we got to the 6th floor, we realized that was because the floor was so packed that people could not even exit the elevator. Everyone was in a cluster and had no idea which way to go. Families were getting separated because everyone was cramming in. The lines went from one end of the ship, to the other end, then back to the middle!! No one was around to explain where to go. If there had been an emergency, no one would have been able to get off the ship in a timely fashion. We arrived to the floor only 20 minutes after we were allowed to leave the ship and ended up waiting in line to leave for over an hour. -Great Stirrup Cay tender- was not told we had to schedule a tender boat to get from the ship to the Bahamas at our last stop until the day before, so our tender was not until 10:30. Because of the weather, we did not even get to the island until almost noon! I wish this information would have been made more clear at the beginning of the trip so we could have arrived at the island earlier. -BUSY! Ship was very busy all the time. People would arrive at 5am to the pool deck to save chairs and not come back to their chairs for hours. We arrived at the pool deck on at sea days no later than 7:30 am and we always had to sit at the outside dining chairs. We could hardly get into the pools because they were PACKED with children and the adult only area pool was tiny. - Only one dining issue at the noodle bar- we had 8 people and made a reservation for it. When we showed up, they put 6 together and 2 at their own table. We did a group trip to hang out as the group. They should have either informed us ahead of time about the seating, or sat us 4 and 4. It took 15 minutes of back and forth to even get the two sat right next to the larger table. All in all, decent trip and we made the best of all the cons. I will no longer be going on ships this large, however. Read Less

We chose this cruise because of the date and the home port. We cruised the last two times on the Oasis and wanted to go to other destinations. If you have read the reviews that others have posted they are spot on. The bathroom deal is weird, the pools and deck space are weird, and for a large vessel you will not find any large and roomy spaces on board. Not too many happy passengers were to be found when the conversations were about the ship. The food was good in the specialty restaurants and the dining room breakfast and dinners were also good. The bars were average overall and the venues tended to get a little overcrowded at times. Personally we will not book another Norwegian cruise and will stick to Royal Caribbean if possible on the Oasis class ships. They also have lots of passengers but you never feel cramped or crowded on their cruises. Read Less

Too many people on this ship. Everything felt crowded. Buffet food was just so so. Main dining room was good food though. Overall, no desire to cruise on this ship again. First ship we've been on that did not have a walking/jogging deck. Okay, they did if you wanted to go back and forth on one side with a view of the lifeboats. Discover Cayman tour is way over rated. Private island had little to offer unless you spent money. Best part of trip was Ocho Rios Blue hole and tubing (Karandas tour). Ship groups looked very crowded. Really got tired of them always pushing their 'cruise next' program. Will definitely look for 'Burn the Floor' show when they go on US tour. Read Less

Embarkation: We arrived at the port about 10:30 a.m. Embarkation was delayed by at least an hour. Boarding did not start until noon. There were some people not on the ship until 2:30 or even a little later. We were never told the reason. Ship: We had cruised on the Epic 5 years prior. While still nice and clean you can see the wear and tear. The spa has lights out over the water, drapes are a little frayed, paint isn't as fresh, etc. Spa: The spa area is still a really nice oasis away from the crowds. However the heated lounges aren't really heated anymore. Most aren't even warm to the touch. We were told something about someone being burned is why they turned them down. However, they still should be warm. You can also see the wear in here. There are lights above the water area that need to be replaced. Food: Buffet was ok. Not great but not bad either. There was an Indian chickpea dish we had here that was one of the best things we had on the ship. Cagney's food was good. However it took us 2 1/2 hours to eat there. That was excessive. Taste was fine. Service was good. La Bistro was very good. Service was great. Food was really good. Probably the best steak on the ship. Moderno was better than I remember. Not as good as a Fogo De Chao but still pretty good. The salad bar was very impressive. Cirque food was really good. Manhattan room was fine. We were sat right up by the piano so it was hard to converse. We found that some of the best food we had was when we went away from the American type foods and tried "international" dishes. Entertainment: The Beatles band was great. If you like that type of music I highly recommend you see them. Priscilla was good. It's not my type of story line. However the costumes and production values were evident. Definitely make sure you are ok with the subject matter before you attend. NOT for kids. They make that very evident but I guess people still don't heed that warning. Cirque was good. We had a issues with a couple of the acts. If the performer(s) would take off one more article of clothing it would have been an act we could have seen at a strip club. If that is the type of acts they want in the show that's fine, however, they need to make that clear like they did with Priscilla. We had grandma and our 9 year old with us. Needless to say it was uncomfortable for a few minutes. Bars: The bars are slammed. Granted we were on a spring break cruise but this was after the college spring break. There were almost no college kids on our cruise. Mostly families with kids. Getting drinks on sea days and at the bars / clubs at night can be a 15 - 20 minute ordeal. I'm not sure what NCL is going to do about it. Some of the staff have started giving you 2 - 4 drinks at a time to try and keep you happy. However, most of the time, they will be warm/melted by the time you get to them. So you end up wasting them and getting another cold one. Kids area: Not sure why but our son really wasn't all that interested in going. It may have been due to the fact that the group was 7 - 9. And he's a month away from being 10. Or maybe since granny was on the cruise and he could hang out with her. On a previous cruise 2 years ago, he would be mad if we wouldn't take him. So we're not sure what happened there. Ports: Tortola We went to the Baths. This was awesome. It is a physically demanding excursion. But if you are up to it, well worth it. They are still rebuilding much of the area. The port area isn't all that built up like some we have been to. St. Thomas We only had 6 hours in port so we didn't do much. Went up to the top of the Mountain had a bushwacker (great!) and enjoyed the view. The do now have a small brewery in the shopping village. If you're into that sort of thing, I'd stop by and have a beer before you leave. Private Island We splurged and got a cabana. I felt it was worth it. One issue we had was the tendering to the island. We kept being told since a Cabana was considered and excursion, we'd get priority tendering. Well that didn't happen. We walked down the stairs when they started calling and then waited in line for 45 minutes before boarding a tender. My wife even went to the excursion desk to ask while I waited. They just said get in line. Overall I'd say it was a good cruise. I'd still sail on the Epic again if it all worked out. However, it's also not something I'd really try to seek out to do either. I will start out with the positive... getting onto the ship was a breeze. The last time we sailed from NY it was a complete disaster so I was super pleased with the level of professionalism and efficiency from all involved. Walking into the ship it was clean, inviting and exciting. As always we made a quick dash to get band for the “vibe” or on this ship “posh” Our very first cruise was I. This ship so I was excited to sail on it again. We were able to get to our stateroom very quickly and bags arrived in a fairly timely manner. Upon meeting our cabin steward he was one of the best we have ever had. Not the least bit overbearing and always did a phenomenal job. We had booked 2 special days for our parents for their anniversary and my mother’s birthday. He excited both with precision and detail which we so greatly appreciated. When we were settled my family and I all decided to check out the posh as we like to spend a good chunk of our time there. From the get go there was not a good vibe up there, pun intended. Normally the staff is always happy smiling and knew our names by the second day. This was not the case with posh. We get this “upgrade” so we always have a place to go for some quiet and that extra special service. The space was loud because of its close proximity to the main pool deck. We were brought water only once and never offered a cocktail or fruit plate. Each time We wanted a refill on water or a cocktail we would have to get up and go to the bar and order and retrieve it ourselves. While not the end of the world I found myself questioning why we paid extra for essentially nothing. On top of that the staff was not friendly there. I was highly disappointed and decided to spend my time elsewhere. Waiting at all bars was almost unbearable but I do understand that there are only so many bartenders and many guests in the ship. When checking into Le Bistro we were again met with an unfriendly face. The hostess did not seem accommodating or kind at all. When dining we decided to indulge in a bottle of wine not included in our package. The sommelier was one the most knowledgeable and kind we have ever met. He absolutely made our experience at Le Bistro much better. Without him the meal would have been sub par. The dealers in the casino were great fun. I found myself looking for the same ones day and night as they made the experience of losing money a little but better with their humor and small talk. I decided one night to use the salon for a blowout. I scheduled the appointment for 730 so I would have enough time to get ready before dinner. After waiting 20 minutes after checking in I approached the front desk to see what the deal was. I was met with “oh no one came for you yet?” After attempting to reschedule for the next day, the stylist irina appeared. From my understanding of my talk with both the front desk and Irina, I was double booked with another haircut she was performing before me. I once again did not feel like I was a priority in the least bit. She styled my hair and I was able to make dinner by the skin of my teeth. I must say that experience was extremely disappointing to me. Bar service in the casino was also extremely lack luster, however the male and female bartenders at the casino bar were beyond kind and committed my name and drink order to memory. Priscilla queen of the desert was a highlight of the cruise. The cast was PHENOMENAL. We were lucky enough to meet some of the cast and they were so kind. As regular cruiser we look forward to meeting other LGBT friends at the Friends Of Dorothy gathering. The name change of the meeting is not my favorite. The location for the meeting this cruise was not the most desired spot, we much preferred it when it was held at shakers. One of the most disappointing things to happen was at great stirrup cay. One of the main reasons I went on this cruise was to swim with the pigs. I understand that the tide is beyond NCLs control but a warning of such might have been nice before we went to check In. The Epics layout overall is not my favorite and I’m happy to see that other ships have not been modeled after it. Overall the cruise was ok, nothing to write home about. As loyal NCL cruisers we will return as guests but I think we may explore other lines after the lack of customer service. Read Less

We were looking forward to this cruise as we've been on two other Norwegian ships (Jewel, Jade) and had fantastic experiences. Unfortunately we didn't enjoy the Epic as we did the others. We will not seek to sail the Epic again. The layout of the ship lead to several bottle necks where the crowds flowing through a deck often came to a stand still because of tight areas or lines of people waiting to get into a restaurant or show. The choice to use the Atrium as the main area for game shows/presentations, IMO, was a poor choice. The acoustics and sight lines were horrible making it near impossible to follow along. Not to mention the Atrium is open to the guest services and excursion desks so the added noise from those areas and other passengers passing by made it more difficult to enjoy a show. Knowing that this is a larger ship (4100 passengers) than we were used to we expected crowds and dealt with them accordingly. The issue is that there are only a limited amount of excursions available. I'm not sure the exact number of people that didn't get to go on an excursion they wanted or settled for less, but I spoke with several families that were unhappy with the excursion options. The guest services experiences was less than impressive too. I had to visit the GS desk several times and the women i dealth with were the most unpleasant people on the ship. The one gentlemen I dealt with went out of his way to ensure my needs were met. This is what I expect from the guest services desk not patronizing and lies so they can move on to the next person in line. I was not impressed with the daily entertainment options as most of the ones I would attend were held in the atrium (see above). The pool, as expected, was packed each day and the lack of wait and bar staff made it near impossible to get a drink the first couple of days. Day three they opened some satellite stations to get a beer or a couple of mixed drinks that helped a little. The shows we attended were fantastic! Kudos to the cast and production crews! Dining options are excellent. While we tend to stick with the Garden Cafe we did visit two restaurants and enjoyed all of the food. The staff in "Taste" were very confused all evening and tried to serve us wrong meals and drinks all night (maybe they were new), but this didn't detract from a good meal. Portions were a bit small, but taste was there. The excursion we went on were overpriced for what you get out of it. We did the Kon Tiki boat and beach tour on St Thomas. The boat crew were nice and entertained, but the public beach we went to has rocky. Not to mention the time in St Thomas was very limited. We were allowed off the ship around 730a and had to be back on board by 130p. Not much time to explore. Tortola was beautiful, but beware of the crazy taxi rides up and down the mountains! We did not get to go to Grand Stirrup Cay due to the oceans waves making the tenders unsafe to operate. Very dissapointing, but a common occurence i hear. Disembarking was a nightmare! We chose the option to leave early with our luggage in tow and ran into an unruly mob of people doing the same with next to no direction from Norwegian staff (only three staff on deck 7 to direct passengers). The confusing part was there were two different ways to disembark. Those with passports and those that had a birth certificate or were Canadian. We were told to go to deck 7 and get in the passport line. The issue is there were soooo many people leaving at the same time and, again, the poor layout of the ship, you couldn't tell where one line ended and another started. The situation could have been averted had there been more than three Norwegian staff on deck 7 to help direct people. Read Less

My husband and I picked this for our 2nd year wedding anniversary. While we overall still had a nice time, the staff really didn't seem to be able to keep up or pay attention to the guests. Most of the bartenders we ran across seemed rather cranky and only half paying attention. I ordered 2 drinks at one point and my husband ordered 1. The bartender acknowledged all 3, then only brought back one and seemed annoyed at having to go make the other 2 when he asked again if I needed anything. There were also several occasions where food was ordered, took a good while then came to us incorrect. Either condiments missing or just completely wrong. I ordered a steak from cagneys medium with peppercorn sauce and it came well done with no sauce but by that time we had already waited a good while and I didnt feel like waiting any longer. My mother in law coincidentally ordered another cut of steak well done and it came medium rare the first time so she sent it back just to be put on for a little while longer and they brought back a fresh one that was even more rare than the first. Similar thing happened at osheens. ordered fries with a side of ranch. Fries came 30 minutes later with no ranch. Granted these are minor things but when it seems to happen every time several days in a row it can get rather discouraging. I think it all boils down to the staff being overwhelmed and therefore just throwing the stuff out there. It was all good food, dont get me wrong, but it's not always what we ordered and the portions were usually very small for the price. Entertainment on the other hand was top notch. We really enjoyed the comedians as well as the cirque dinner show and the teppenyaki hibachi restaurant. The pools...well...I'll never understand why they would only have 3 very small pools for people outside the haven to access on a cruise with 4 thousand people. Unless you wanted to sit on a stranger's lap you weren't getting in. Which was a bit disappointing but we found a nice set of lounge chairs on the deck near spice h20 to spend our time. I would say it's worth a shot if you have patience like I do. I rather enjoyed the cruise. But if you have limited patience like my mother in law, you'll really want to be careful of when you go because 2-3 bartenders in a crowd about 6 people deep all around the pool bar can be a bit painful. Needed a two bedroom to travel with a snorer. The ship is huge. Food in the Haven was excellent. The Manhattan room was very good but didn’t return because the band was very very loud. The Burn the Floor show was great but didn’t see others. I have been on many cruise lines and never experienced one before this one that charges for the better shows and charges for cocktails and umbrellas on their private island. REALLY?? With our drink package on their island we were offered beer but all alcohol otherwise you had to pay for. Fortunately we did find some shade so didn’t have to rent the umbrella. The biggest disappointment was at St Thomas. We had to be back on the ship at 1:30. So after taking an excursion we had to get right back to the ship. I did really enjoy everything about the Haven’s cabin, dining room, clubs and bar but the only criticism is when the band starts playing on deck 15 the piped in music at the Posh club should be turned down so you don’t have to listen to two songs at the same time. We would have enjoyed hearing the live music only. Also the service in the Haven was top notch. Read Less

Before the trip, I saw suggestions to reserve dining before the trip. I thought they were suffering from odc but you really do need to reserve anything you wish to do before you get onboard and some other things that you can only book on the ship. This ship is by far overfilled with passengers vs venue space. Really consider how calm you can remain because it affects service you receive. Also shows are hard to see if you like the main dining rooms. I believe this isn’t as much of an issue for buffet types. The embarkation/debarkation out of Canaveral was the quickest and most comfortable (nicely air conditioned)I’ve experienced to date. Once arriving onboard, this ship didn’t try to confuse us into buying a souvenir glass - a nice change from other cruises I’ve been on. The emergency drill was one of the easiest I’ve dealt with also. We were the first sailing with an unaffected itinerary after the ship incident in Puerto Rico. The gash could be seen, but otherwise nothing was affected. 3 of us were in a spa package. I didn’t find the room shape as disappointing as others. There is a slide curtain between the restroom area and the rest of the room. It provided as much privacy as thin doors have on other cruises. The layout does give a bit of extra foyer space and allowed someone to put on makeup while someone else was in the shower. I slept on the sofa bed and it truly was unexpectedly comfortable. I’m only 5’8” so it was plenty of room for me. Taller people will have trouble keeping feet on the bed. You have to keep a keycard in a slot by the door to keep lights on etc. However, any credit card sized card will work. It’s been a while since I’ve cruised but the balcony felt smaller to me. But not by much. The spa package was okay. It’s the first time I’ve purchased that and I wouldn’t on this ship again. The ship is overpopulated so pools and hot tubs on the top deck are inadequate. As the week progressed, people flocked to the spa in droves. My suggestion is to buy a couple of day passes for the first few days before people get fed up with the pool situation. Once the spa is full, you’ll deal with people holding all the spots with towels. As far as dining goes, every venue is packed so you’ll be scouring for a place to sit at the buffet. Anytime you have no reservation, you’ll be waiting up to 30 minutes to be seated. I tend to eat on main dining rooms on cruises but I am disappointed by how few venues without extra charge are available on Norwegian ships. I checked across the fleet and this ship actually has the max offered by Norwegian and it is the fewest I’ve had on other lines. This was the worst service I’ve had in main dining rooms on a ship before also. It seems like every waitstaff owns every table so in the end, no one performs well. Each meal was hit and miss. If something was forgotten, like silverware, you might wait 5 minutes looking at your plate. Sadly this is common on this ship. No drinks until halfway through meals. Food served out of order. Wrong food delivered. It is actually a bit comical at times. Overall the food was good though - nothing resembling stellar. The buffet actually had better food than I expected. The beverage package is the way to go if you drink at all. I’ve been on the Pearl ship before. As comparison, I had LOTS more trouble getting served. The bars have stools in the way for people to order. Every bar stool is occupied so you’ll be ordering over peoples shoulders. The bartenders are confused of who is next so you’ll get skipped over often. Your fellow passengers become jerks as the cruise progresses - they’ll start purposely ordering when it’s not their turn - mainly because of frustration of the congested conditions. I feel like the bartenders have been told to cater toward passengers without drinking packages first also. They may do it because package holders have already tipped so they pocket the tips whether they serve us or not. It’s a bit unclear but lower your expectations and don’t let it ruin your trip. Much of this staff is beat down due to congested passenger conditions- this is the least friendly crew I’ve experienced. Do not get me wrong - they are MUCH friendlier than service staff on land, but compared to every ship I’ve been on, this ship had more unwelcoming staff than others. I suggest you pick out the ones you like and try to go to those bars and ask for those servers. Personally, I filed out cards for the ones that were friendly and did their jobs. I’ve not done that before because ALL staff has always been great in past. The main theater shows were some of the best I’ve seen before. The shows that were in other venues, well I don’t know because we couldn’t ever get a seat to one. I didn’t see a single comedy act. This is the fewest shows I’ve ever seen on a ship and I think this is reason number one to choose another ship. There are too many passengers so you have to appear 45 minutes early to get to see anything. This would be okay but the main dining rooms do not book reservations so you can make shows. You’ll have to do buffet dining for a schedule to work out so you can stand in line. Food was more important to me. If you want to escape the big top, you can’t pre order. Order as soon as you board or it’ll be booked full. I didn’t know the drill so we missed out. The slides were nice but they only run 2 at a time. They move fairly quickly so you may do that a few times. The hot tubs stay packed. I was able to get in 1 one time during the trip. The pool is a little better but it is standing room only most of the time. We were able to find lounge chairs in the shade near the back of the stairs for the slides each day. All others were full unless you claimed them early. We did not. There were waiters on the pool deck for drinks but there aren’t many and it can be 40 minutes from order until delivery. The bars on the pool deck are packed so I really can’t say either option is great. It was quicker to run down into the ship to a bar and bring drinks back on top. The back of the ship has the adult only o2 area. It has a dance floor part of the time and the floor moves to make a pool. There are movies played at night back there too. The projector didn’t work well so it was all sorts of scrambled pictures so we never watched one. The potential is there but the stadium seating isn’t comfortable. The jogging track is the worst I’ve seen. It is on one side of the boat behind the lifeboats. You get no view and it is very unpopular. I never saw more than 2 others using it when I did. It was one place that’s uncrowded. It sounds like I hated the cruise but I didn’t. But I can have fun in most situations. Across 7 days, I only experienced 1 meal where the server completely deserted our table. And there was only one bar incident that truly irritated me where I finally asked the bartender how many times he planned to skip over me? I can’t recommend this ship because I know what service is like on other ships. This is the biggest ship I’ve been on so I don’t know if all 4K passenger ships have the same issues. I would be interested to know if breakaway and bliss has similar issues. I’ve been on pearl so I know it’s not across the fleet. Read Less

We went with my brother and his wife as they were already going. Getting on and off the ship was very easy. Don't like the way the bathroom is set up as there is not normal privacy. I would go to u-tube and watch a video on the cabins but although I like my privacy, it still worked out well. Our cabin attendant (Renee) was AWESOME!!! He was extremely attentive, called us by name every time he saw us and kept our room very clean, well made up and always had great towel animals on the bed each night. All attendants do not do this so ask for him. It was not always easy to call the other parts of the ship... ie: front desk...as they rarely answered. The food was incredible on floor 15: all buffets. O'Sheehan's Bar & Grill was part of everyone's package and was terrible. I ordered a Ruben and it had hardly any meat on it and took a very long time to get the food once ordered. We also tried out 3 of the separate dining facilities that you have to pay extra for. Teppanyaki was a favorite, next was Cagney's Steakhouse and Moderno Churrascaria was last on my list as the food was not very good and the service even worse. The casino was not very well serviced. Some machines worked and some didn't and they had very few servers to take drink orders and even less people to fix the slot machines. Fun but aggravating!!! As far as going back to this ship, I would probably try others as I have just booked another cruise for June on a different cruise line. It would have to be a very very good deal to come back here and this was my 7th cruise line. Read Less

This was my sixth cruise second time with Norwegian and my 30th wedding anniversary, I understand that up keeping on a vessel is necessary but arc welding and grinding off tie downs that were in the wrong place on the deck and closures of areas on the pool deck, very inconvenient. The specialty restaurants we did was La Cucina, Cagney's Steakhouse and Teppanyaki. All three were excellent. We also did the cirque dreams epicurean dinner , we enjoyed that show. Burn the flood was good, the comedians were funny, did not like Priscilla queen of the desert, Howl at the moon was also good. Buffets are buffets, the food so so. The bar tenders Won't make a frozen rum runner, but the drink package came in handy. Here is a good tip take the elevator on deck 15 outside the buffets up to deck 18 where there is padded deck chairs and hardly anyone around walk up to the front and enjoy. Wished we found that earlier in the trip. I don't understand why they don't have music in H20 during the day they have a big screen showing diving spots of the world. Wife did a few spa treatments she was happy with that. Not sure about doing that big of a ship again. Or at least that one, Port Canaveral is very easy on and off the ship. When getting off the ship Use the porters to get you and your bags to the front at customs. It's worth the tip. Read Less

12 day and a couple of ports i've never been to. The cabins have the sink and tub in the cabin. There is a screen which we did not get till the fourth day. Tub water was boiling hot and not easy to control. There was no hot water in the sink till the last day. Checkin had a line that lasted 2 hours. There were lines all over the ship, for shows dining and just about anything. Show Priscilla was nothing more then a mediocre Drag Show. The other show Burn the Floor was a very good dance show. The best entertainment was the Beatles show. Specialty restaurants were just so so and if they weren't given in the package would have been grossly overpriced. Ports were why we went on this ship but 3 of the ports were NCL islands. Last time for NCL. Will stay on Princess from now on. Ship has 2 elevator banks, front and rear. None in the center. This was our 19th Cruise and Our second time with Norwegian Cruise Lines, our first was May of 2018 on the Getaway. The Getaway was a POSITIVE experience, NO Complaints whatsoever. The Food and Sevice Was perfect. The Epic however, was not so enjoyable. To be fair, our embarkation process even though 3 hours in length, but was NOT the fault of Norwegian but a result of bad guest disturbances on the previous cruise. Our main complaint was a badly designed Stateroom. The shower and toilet facilities were the first thing visible when entering the room, very inconvenient, and almost impossible for two people to get cleaned up and ready at the same time. The bed was situated on a curved wall and very short. Anyone over 5’5” would have their feet hanging off the end. Storage was adequate but placed in weird places. The food quality on the buffet was also “adequate” but not as good as the Getaway. The Formal dining at the “Taste” and “Manhattan” Dining rooms was very good. The stage show “Burn the Floor” was one of the best we’ve ever seen, but “Pricilla Queen of the Desert” was the most offensive and disgusting performance we had ever seen on ANY Cruise Line! Primarily because we had not seen the disclaimer prior to entering the venue. If it had been possible, we would have walked out less than 15 minutes into the performance. The disembarkation process was also very long. The area that ourl luggage had been placed in was very hard to locate and the lines were extremely long. That process took almost 2 hours. Perhaps they could find a way to shorten that aspect. Read Less

My wife and I have been on both Disney and Celebrity Cuise Lines in the past, this is the first on Norwegian. It is also our first cruise over Christmas. The good- lots to do and the Entertainment was the best we have seen on a cruise ship. We liked the balcony room design and our attendant was fantastic. If you have kids this ship is for you. Our favourite restaurants were The Bistro and Noodles. We have had a nice Xmas dinner at Manhattans. The bad- There was always a line whether we had reservations or not. It was annoying because the reservation system was abused by customers and the staff allowed it. Also some restaurants did not allow couples to reserve yet bigger groups were allowed,so while we stood in line big groups were brought right in. The ship was not very clean and the customer service was not up to the standards we are used to. Staff seemed confused and unsure. What we learned, we like specialized dining but with structured seating. We will probably return to Celebrity ( Reflection, Edge etc) and if we had kids go to Disney or Royal Caribbean. Celebrity should learn from Norwegians Entertainment package , Prescilla of the Desert, Burn the floor and the Comedians and magic acts were fantastic on Norwegian never saw anything that good on Celebrity. The smoke on deck 6 made us sick, had to see the onboard doctor, which really messed up our cruise. We love the Cavern club, but it was so packed that we couldn't enjoy it. People went to the show before and just hung out. Food from the Cirque was not good at all. The meat was cold. The biggest disappointment was that they only had two scuba (we are advance divers) excursions. They did not have any for Cayman or Belize which are amazing dive sites. We had to do our own for Jamaica, Cayman, and Belize. That was a huge disappointment. When we travel on Carnival they are working with us on the ship to schedule dives if they do not have any set up. Norwegian staff would not. The TV vacation planner did not work. We would have things schedule and it would not show up and then we didn't think we had it when we did. This happened in regards to a show and in regards to a dinner reservation. The iConceirge Ap said there was an upgrade and I was never able to use it. We did the Blackjack tournament and asked to get into the one of the rounds on a table that was not filled up and she said it was after 12 when our watches said 1158 and she would not budge even showing her the time. I was penalized in the Blackjack tournament for pushing two stacks of chips in one move onto the betting space when the lady running it told me I could not and then the next lady that took over told people to do it. Bathrooms on deck (not in the room) were often out of paper towels. The embark and disembark were nightmares. I've never had that kind of problem on any other ship. My wife said she would never want to travel on Epic again but I probably would (but not without her). After the experience, I prefer Carnival and the way they do things. I wanted to like Norwegian more. The stateroom and ship and staff were awesome. Read Less

7 day get-a-way. Food, in 95%, was great, Foods service was great, except for an poorly trained waitress in The Manhattan Room. She was overwhelmed about the group size (11), and table was poorly set up from the start. Blame should be reflected on Dinning Management, for watching and not giving support or assigning help. She was truly in the wrong place. Each shore excursion started off and ended (debarking/ embarking) entering/exit the ship itself was good, but no ground support, or directions or signs to which line one should be in a close proxamtion to the excurtion you were headed to.. 3000 people heading to double set of doors and not knowing where to go. Tenders, Long line down the middle of the boat, then sit for another 45 minutes in the Epic room, to await on a boat. Returning to the ship.. No signs on where the line starts, lines crossing other lines. and very long. Could see Norwiegian crew staff standing around, but not trying to help. Each shore excursion, we planned, was great, once you got into the correct line... The cruise depends on yourself. Want to have a great time, you can, and will. It's what you make it... My advise to Norwegian staff, We are your employers during the trip. Keep your attitude in your cabin. Keep you options to yourself. Smile when you hate it, If you don't know the question/ answer, state that you don't understand, don't lie, or give false information. Your jobs are tough and your hours are long, we commend your services. Many people will work a whole year just to have a week of peaceful time. Don't make their hard effort's go to waste, That's you jobs, if you can't do it, get another job. There are thousands more waiting to have your job, and, without attitude... Read Less

Lets start with the Cabin. I thought my cabin was fine and housekeeping excellent. The Taste dinning room was perfect the staff was great, waiters manager everyone their I loved. I don't think the menu always had something I wanted to eat. The last few nights it really didn't change. I preferred the ambiance of taste more than I did the Manhattan room. Just my preference. I didn't think the Garden cafe had the best variety of what I wanted to eat. I did enjoy the specialty restaurants but felt I shouldn't have to spend so much more money on food when I spent so much on the cruise. I should have been giving more of a selection of included food. The gift shop was outrageously priced. I was feeling a cold coming on and had to pay $21.00 for a $5.00 bottle of Night quill. I ask to see the Dr. and was told it would cost me $190.00 just to see him. I have been on other cruises and to see the medic is free. This is after I paid for insurance on the boat, so what did I pay for. I paid for 5 excursions one for every port. The ones to Pompeii and Rome were excellent. Pisa and Cannes where horrible. When I complained they didn't really seem to care made me feel like we got your money, so to bad for you. It was so bad I didn't even bother to go on the last excursion. stayed on the boat and slept the day away. they tell you there is a party by the pool you get there no party. everything I wanted to go to was not where they said it would be. The best part about this trip was the staff and the other passengers were great. I have not one complaint about the crew who really hold it all together. Would I do Norwegian again? I think Not. We've sailed on Epic before and there are a couple of things that have gotten better, but it's still average at best. The cabin we were in 11320 is on floor 11 and is the forth from the left if you're looking at the back of the boat. The balcony furniture is uncomfortable and they give you a very small table 5"x 5". The cabin is fine. The bathroom is typical of a cruise ship as is the shower. The hairdryer is in the middle of the room, so if anyone wants to go out to the balcony while you're doing your hair, they have to get by you. The food is ALWAYS the same. The only way you get anything different is if you go to the specialty restaurants. They nickle and dime, so be careful...anytime they ask for your cabin number, you can guarantee you'll be charged for something. Entertainment was so lame, in fact the best thing was the male sexy legs contest. Service was slow but good. Before when we sailed Epic, you had to cut through the casino to get to anywhere good and it was always smoke filled. They've made that a little better...or at least we didn't notice as much this time. People still smoke on the balconies even though they are warned not to. It's annoying if you're just trying to relax with a cup of coffee. (That's just me). The ports are good but they are all far away from the ports. Example, Rome is a little over an hour and once you factor in the shuttles and trains, it's almost two hours. All of the ports require a train or bus to the sights worth seeing-It makes for an exhausting week. Maybe that's why the entertainment is weak- We took the free drink and internet pkg. My advice would be to take the free drink and excursion. The wifi is AWFUL! The package that comes with the offer is 250mins. which by the time you get on is not worth it. All-in-all the cruise was eh- Read Less

First time cruiser. Crew were generally great and biggest asset of NCL. However, not relaxing as anticipated... Boarded and had to wait from midday to 8pm for room so could not shower or change clothes. The "all inclusive" but pay for some things was confusing, as were complementry (or not) shows and dining, especially when online account showed charges that subsequently disappeared. Because we were on excursions every day we did not get good value from the included "all inclusive" dining or extra charge "ultimate Drinks" package. Lifts were frustratingly slow and overcrowded. Top Decks with outside areas overcrowded and more like a Butlins holiday camp than luxury liner. Had an outside balcony but room service was nearly $8 a go, so enjoying the outside that way not really an option. Customer Services queue was usually long and slow, and much time was wasted mainly because access to decent information online was poor. Fid was okay. Overall the experience fell short of expectation. The ability to hop off hop on at ports is good but we went with another (recommended) excersion company. The NCL excersions in comparison were very very expensive but I cannot comment on their quality. Don't do every stop because it is very tiring. Internet was blisteringly expensive at over $240 each for the week. It was the premium service but that was not really an option because the other (still chargable) options provided extremely poor (unusable) bandwith. In the library there are Desktop PCs and or but no scan capability. The desktops were useless, even when using premium internet account. Could not even check in with Airline and print boarding card - something I imagine many would want to do. I get the attraction of cruising but it was just too busy - good for the cruise line but not great for passengers. If I go on another cruise I would not go cattle class. I would probably choose a ship with a higher ratio of staff to passenger and a higher quality of service so that I can truly relax. Read Less

ship was very good balcony cabin 8199 deck eight, some cabin are restricted view down to water or enclosed panels etc, this cabin was perfect the balcony was largest we have had, (one chair and one chair reclined and a small table) we were the right hand of the ship, only issues were every morning when docking at 5.30/6am we were awoken by the engine thrusters (every morning), the toilet was to the right hand side of the door shower on left but sink (which was tiny en-suite sink) was in the room - this allowed me to shave whilst my wife had a shower ( gave us extra time we looked at positives but prefer traditional bathroom styles of other ncl ships. the sofa was next to the balcony. The ship is noisy throughout ( o'sheehans has bar on one side the restaurant on the other but a main walkway for the ship through the middle, there is ten pin bowling going on , pool tables and air hockey , everyone shouting to be heard above the noise ,the atrium has noise coming up from its level to osheenans ( i normally love eating in here on other ncl ships but the noise was unbearable - the garden cafe ie canteen was a lot quieter) taste was good but Manhattan was best quieter and relaxed, although twice in the week there was piano etc entertainment - we went specifically for this but we couldn't hear any entertainment for everone at other tables shouting over the top of the music to there friends at the same table , ( if you go for music and entertainment you should listen and be quiet and allow others to listen - if you want to eat and talk go to TASTE RESTAURANT ON THOSE NIGHTS, this was another noisy un-relaxing meal on the epic something they are good at. there was never any problem getting drinks at the bars, there are lots in a similar area if some are busy go to the next. the lifts are unbearable we walked up and down stairs all the time. if you did get a lift you are sure it will stop for people getting in or out at every floor. i have never know lifts to be so busy on any of the other 9 ships we have been on, the ones at the front are the worst. The sunbeds - well on the sea day a member of staff was asked if there were any sunbeds - he proceeded to point to the sunbeds with towels on them and laughed leaving the customer exasperated ( not the best response) he could have said there were over a hundred sunbeds up on the quiet deck ( deck 18) using the stairs from floor 15 at the garden cafe entrance ( this seems to be an unknown area as it was empty most days and although there are no bar areas serviced by waiters and also infused water available. rattana sunbeds with cushions and rattan cabana style sun beds. ( i don't think i should have said about this area as it wont be quiet anymore but i think it should be advised to guests as an option on sea days when thery are standing around without beds the entertainment was good Beatles in main theater 1st night, then in the cavern most nights. cirque show was superb we went at 7.45 waited to get in at 8pm and were given ringside seats best seat in show, we said we didn't want to hurt our necks looking up and would prefer balcony seats, the staff were shocked and said these were excellent seats and they were correct ( pay extra for ground floor seats show was right in front of us and you felt like you were in the show. Barcelona - hop on hop off bus - 3 routes. Very good system. There are a couple of companies so make sure you get on the right bus on and off. We enjoyed la rambla wandering at fruit/fish market. Squares, arc triemf, familia catheral . bought copy designer bags they were asking 85 euros, we paid 15 euros, we bought two large and one smaller prada, and gucci 15 euros eack. stick to your price, i just said that was all i was paying and they knew i had their bottom price ( local bar tender told me not to pay more) i walked away at watched bottom price was 50 euros for fully automatic rolex, omega etc they are still just a cheap watch with a copy name it might not even work the next day no warranty etc , not worth taking the chance Naples -Positto Pompeii,Sorrento Amalfi coast, used a normal taxi at port, two couples 150 euros per couple we didn't know the couple he got two others to join us ( driver was Angelo - he was superb very relaxed and informative) buy tickets prior online for pompei, we were 8 people from the front and took 25 mins to get in, there are two ques on for paying in (middle line) and tour guides (left line) the ticket seller booth takes 3 tour guides to every one paying visitor, the line to the right has its own ticket booth this is for online pre paid vouchers, ( best option). there were hundreds behind us and it was very very stressful paying ( not a good experience you had to physically push your way to the desk. (buy o ticket online to avoid stress. Rome - buy ticket at newsagent ( birg ticket) across the road from the shuttle drop off point at the roundabout. Follow the road parallel to the sea to train station (easily walkable 10mins well signed. put ur ticket it in green machine at train station before boarding slide to left and it will stamp - validate it, u then use it all day on trains underground and buses 12 euros all day travel. We dont use public transport and found it easy to use ( we asked locals a couple of times and they were very helpful- seems daunting but all train stops are marked above the train doors, and they announced the stops. Stops also say colosn and trevi fount etc easily recognized. Florence €19 return leaves 12mins past hour. Takes 1hr 20mins . We went from liverno station ( cruise shuttle €15 euro each) we missed train so we went via pisa. Got off train caught bus for 2 euros, same back to station then train to florence took 1hr. Train back at 3pm plenty of time 1 hr 10 mins back, there is no 4pm train back so 5pm train would be to late for shuttle back it stops at 5.45pm Freinzi Smn station ( ie florence is end of the line ) not the freinzi station stop before. Cannes- cant get off ship till 10.30am tender if u haven't book a tender. ( worth booking - if its to early for you, don't turn up just go after 10.30. noddy train at end on tender dock. 10 euro per person lasts 40/45mins . You get audio and a little bit of an idea of where is worth a visit. We had a walk up the oldest street and a look in general shops. Coffee and cake. Spent a relaxing 3.5hrs then back to ship Palma - shop shuttle 15 euros per person return but the taxi is 10 euro total for 4 to city centre ( cathedral ) same back. (i think ncl are a big bit cheeky charging 15 euro per person, we were two people and saved 10 euros and got taxi to where we wanted and got taxi from where we finished, no unnecessary waiting or walking (taxi best option) Cruise port to bcn airport terminal 2 - taxi 39 euros set fee (20mins) overall the itinerary was good, the staff were friendly and helpful, the ship was bearable very big and lots going on but to noisy at meal times. i think they are trying to get to much in every space, mostly to make more money and the tours and shuttles are extortionate, look online for private companies or get a taxi you will save money . do your home work Read Less

The food in the Specialty Dining Restaurants were good and of course they charge you extra for those. The drinks were average. The entertainment was so so. The music and the DJ's were okay.
