This ship is enormous so get your walking shoes on. The first impression I got was at the Casino area. The aroma was purely cigarette smoke, old fashioned décor and dull lighting. I was pleased to see that other floors did not have this problem. When we eventually found our inside cabin, I could not believe how small and badly designed it was. If you want any shred of privacy you will not find it here. The sink was in the living area with taps to the side which made brushing your teeth quite awkward. The lighting was really dull and as we had no window made it feel even more confining. All plugs are underneath the dressing table area and hard to get at unless on your hands and knees. I would not advise anyone to get an inside cabin. This was my first cruise and I felt it was a bit of a let down in this area. I did ask if an update was possible but was told there were other people still to get on the next day even though I was told previously by a check in assistant that the ship was only 3/4 full!! My good report is of all the staff, entertainment and food. Could not fault this in any way. There is something for everyone at any time of the day or night. The shows were fantastic. I can recommend getting a drinks package as it was fabulous not having to pay. I hope I remember not to just walk out the door when eating out at home. Think my next cruise will be on a smaller ship with bigger cabins and a balcony or at least a window. Read Less

We chose this cruise with friends as they were doing the 30 day transatlantic and we wanted to share the first week with them. There was a group of 10 of us that participated and overall it was a good experience. I was very anxious about this ship being so big with so many people after having read the reviews here, but having experienced it with fresh eyes, first hand for myself it was way better than I could have thought! I did a lot of homework on your website before we cruised so I tried to avoid the pitfalls one can encounter when on a ship this big. The embarkation was a breeze we were on board within 30 minutes. We carried off our own luggage which I would highly recommend! The balcony cabin was just fine for us and people complained about the bathroom/shower situation, it really didn't bother us at all. We chose the specialty dining package for which we chose the Cirque Dreams show, Cagneys and Le Bistro. First night was at the Manhattan Dining Room which was very lovely with beautiful food. The maitre'd was meticulous in dealing with the food allergies and sensitivities of our guests. The Cirque Dreams show was great, however, the food was subpar. We also had fabulous meals at Le Bistro and Cagneys which I would highly recommend! The Shanghai Chinese Restaurant is included in your regular dining so we tried that, they need to re-work the menu, the food was subpar. The Garden Cafe buffet on Deck 15 is awesome, and I would recommend it. We also subscribed to the Unlimited Alcohol package and that was a good deal, EXCEPT when in port you WILL be charged tax on your drinks so don't freak out when you see that on your bill. Please check your statements daily! We also took advantage of the Burn the Floor show which was the best show I've seen...period! We sat in on the Dueling Pianos and took in the Comedy Show as well which were both very entertaining. The piano bar singer in the Martini Bar should just play piano...The drinks were great though! We booked all our excursions through Trip Advisor and was very happy with them! We are scuba divers and I can recommend Cozumel H2O and Cayman University Divers in Grand Cayman, both excellent service providers and I will definitely use them again upon returning. In Ocho Rios, Jamaica we had a fabulous day with Richie from Excursions Ocho Rios, he's the best and I would definitely recommend and will use him again upon our return! When going to Great Stirrup Cay, do book a clamshell IN ADVANCE, it's worth it. You will be charged TAX on your drinks while there FYI....The island, snorkeling, and buffet luncheon was great. Things to do pre-cruise...book your excursions, book your specialty packages dining, shows in advance as they sell out quickly once on board. When on board...book your tenders to go off shore ASAP. Doing these things helped us enormously and made for a less stressful cruise. I read where many people were unhappy with the service on the ship and the crew being rude. I NEVER encountered one member of the staff who was rude, short, or not willing to go the distance to be helpful. People need to be courteous and respectful when traveling, it makes for a much more enjoyable experience! I thought Norwegian did a good job in managing 4100 guests overall. What can they do better? Communicate better directions on how to get to the tenders on board. Communication in general needs to be better to the guests. Once on board there are many sales opportunities so be prudent if you don't want to go home broke...I don't remember being on a cruise where I felt like it was nickel and diming all over the place, so be aware they try to sell you many extras. Overall a very enjoyable week! Read Less

I found the reviews to be off putting before my departure. But i must say......i loved the epic the cabin was a little strange and beds not so good, a little on the hard side could be changed out. the food at the show cirque wasnt good. no one at our table ate the steak one temp and it was well done. . but nothing really to complain about. i am sad that the epic will not be at a florida port again for awhile i wold book her again again! the shows were great could have been another one????? the specialty resturants were wonderful the buffet was tasty. the waiters/ waitress were awesome... Deal or not deal were great! i cant wait to try the escape, that is next on my list of ncl ships.. the ports were not many and we didn't get to stirrup cay due to weather. But tortola and st thomas were awesome. Read Less

I have been looking at the Epic for about a year because of the single occupancy studio rooms. Sometimes I want to cruise but don't have anyone to go with, so when I arrived in Port Canaveral to take my Carnival Aruba cruise for the third time in a year, I saw the Epic docked at Port Canaveral. Booked it immediately before it returned to the Mediterrean in April. So impressed that this company gets the fact that there are a lot of singles out there who want to cruise but don't want to pay double. The cabins are great, mood lighting, great bed, ample storage if you are creative, toilet in separate enclosed area. Even though I am almost Platinum on Carnival, I am searching for my next Norwegian Studio Cabin. They have a private studio lounge that has coffee, pastries and yogurt in the morning and in the evening they have a bartender and a host to organize groups for dinner, activities etc. Wonderful! The entertainment on board was fantastic, Cirque, Priscilla Queen of the Desert, Beatles, and Burn the Floor shows, my favs first to last. Met great people in the group. The specialty restaurants were delicious, never did that on Carnival but it seemed like many more options here. I will definately book them again. Here's a few things I like better on Carnival, the buffet choices with the Mexican, Wok, Pizza and general food quality. Much better deserts on Carnival. The mood in the general dining room with the show is more fun, the food about equal. The adult pool on the Epic was never full and at full capacity this ship was very crowded and seemed so. But did I mention, they had a free drink package. That was fantastic because I did not have a huge bill at the end. Will be back for sure! Read Less

We are NCL Rewards oriented now after 7 cruises on Norwegian. We have tried 3 other cruise lines but the freestyle cruising packages suit us very nicely. We tend to choose smaller ships in the NCL line, but for some cruises there are no choices other than what the route and program demands. This was our first cruise on the Epic and we found it a bit of a challenge finding our way around sometimes. One of the main restaurants TASTE was located in a place that stopped one from going forward to far on that level, meaning you had to go through the smoke filled casino. The casino is a separate story to be told a little later. The Shows on the Epic were great including the Burn the Floor Dance show that we saw twice it was so good. We saw the musical Priscilla live on the Epic Stage and had the chance to compare it with the movie of the same name that was showing on our room television. Very close to the movie and very compelling and well acted. We had a Junior Suite, wonderful with balcony - worth the extra money. Food was great at the various venues and the all you can drink alcohol beverage meant we could have a wine or a beer or mixed drink anywhere, any time without worrying about the bill at the end of the cruise. We likely did not use up to what the cost would have been if we'd paid for it on a per/person basis - we're a little too old or too smart to drink that much but wine at dinner, beers or wine at lunch, cocktails (Mango Meltdown our favorite) was fantastic. The Casino has lots of choices but OH MY GOD, if you sit beside a smoker you are done for! The slots are so tight that winning anything is a challenge. When you win free games on most of the machines you play on, the returns or "winnings" are what I call "chincy". We play in land based casinos and they are far more generous in their free games and amount won on those games. My recommendation and one that I will follow closely in the future - is play minimum dollars, minimum amounts and keep your money in your pocket. This is part of the NCL Cruise line I do not like. I was lucky and one once in the past, but their machines are SO TIGHT as to be ridiculous. This is one of their major profit centers on the ships and they sure know how to hook you when you are in there. The free drinks offer is laughable. Most "gamblers" who book these cruises spend enough to buy two or three future cruises with the money they spend in the casino. Gone are those days for me and my wife, gambling on NCL rarely pays. I have been on other cruises but always with family. Now they can't travel as much and neither can my friends so I am choosing to fly solo sometimes to get away as often as I wish. 10th cruise, 3rd on NCL, 1st solo. I liked it a lot. Met some great people, and never had to feel alone but also did not have to feel like I had to have my own space as I had my own cabin and access to the exclusive Studio Lounge. If I wanted to watch a show, eat a meal, or run the ship there were always people around to go with. I am sure some of those will continue. Overall, I found the ship kinda chopped up. There are 3 floors in the middle with things to do and then 14 on up with the rest. I wish there were a few more things to do on the Lido, but found Spice to be very nice as well as deck 18. The late night parties are contagious and tiring with late night partying! All in all I like but don't love the ship, the solo cruisers program is amazing and I wish got a little more participation. They do need a single person for the solo's though. I found that just as the person was getting used to hosting us the next cruise they assigned a new host. They also do not get much time to spend with us and would often time spend their free time with us so that we could goto shows/dinner and be able to interact with our other solo's. It started out VERY disorganized but Krysta picked it up again fairly quickly. Would I do the Epic again? Only if I was in the Studio's, otherwise I would rather be on a different ship. However if I were to go on the ship with my grown son I am sure ajoining sutdio's would be perfect Read Less

I did the cruise as a solo. The Solo program with a coordinator and Barteneder in the lounge was excellent. Front row seats for theater events! Group dinners were great. We did change ports, and missed Stirrup caye, We were told it was for an electrical issue. but more likely for an unfortunate death involving alchol while at sea. We did not disembark until late only after the authorities came onboard. It was superbowl week, we had three giant screens to watch on. Some were miffed that their regular schedule for shows was dissrupted. Cagneys, Moderno and Le bistro were my favorites. The best breakfast was the Buffet omelet station at the outdoor pool area. He made me an egg sanwich everyday!. Osheehans was another very good breakfast location, you could eat there well before 7 when everything else was still closed. Abi beach break in St Thomas was great 13 people went, we had 250 chairs to ourselves, transport was via a little pirate schooner Cane beach in Tortola was lovely Loved the Blue lagoon with lunch at Nassua. Dissembark in port was a disater, only 4 cutoms agents for 4000. Not the fault of the Epic or NCL. I nearly missed my 1:40 flight. I had a crafty porter who got us to skip the line. Read Less

We ate at cuchina, Cagney's, and La Moderno. Great service at these restaurants, coffee was amazing at La Moderno. Food and service at Taste was excellent. Ate most of our lunch and breakfast meals at The Garden Café. View was great, food was good. Embarcation was nightmarish. Not the fault of NCL but started us off on poor footing. It took an hour and a half to get from our hotel in cocoa Beach to the Epic. The embarcation procedure following that made us feel like we were cattle being herded into the corral. Was not impressed with the 50-100 people who were ushered in front of us because they had a Casino pkg. NCL should've had a separate check in for them instead of having them cut in front of us, pushing our wait time to 45 minutes just to get our key card. Again, not a great beginning. The entertainment was excellent. We saw circus dreams on the first night, it was pretty good. Saw the Priscilla, Queen of the desert Broadway show. It was amazing!! Also saw Burn the Floor, it wasn't bad. Quick note on circus dreams, do not bother paying for the premium ticket as they let premium and standard ticket holders sit wherever they want. Excursions were very good. Took a simple beach excursion for Tortola. It was perfect. Second excursion, we went snorkelling on the catamaran called castaway girl. Again excellent excursion, we were well taken care of. My only regret is it was such a short time in the water to go snorkelling . But aside from that, excellent! The last excursion was great Stirrup Caye. Wow!!! What a great excursion! Ship set up: was a little confusing. We were never sure when we got off the elevator whether to go to the left or to the right. Would've liked to have had a map of the ship, this would've helped out a lot. Social: the people we met on this trip were some of the nicest people I've ever met in my life. They made it fun, everyone was friendly, met lots of people, did a lot of talking. Overall this was an excellent cruise. Thank you to all the NCL folk who put it all together. Read Less

We have been on the Norwegian Spirit for a Mediterranean cruise and loved the freestyle availability. The Epic is much bigger and took some time to learn our way around. We have been on numerous cruises but really enjoy the freestyle dining so picked Norwegian again. We chose the Caribbean cruise for relaxation so did not go on excursions. We were surprised that the cabins were so small and the bathrooms were not "enclosed" like other ships but there was plenty of storage. Our balcony was very peaceful and our cabin steward (curt) was fantastic. He took great care of us and the room was always clean. The restaurants were fine but we really enjoyed the entertainment. The Epic Beatles were fantastic....we wish they played in the Epic theatre all evenings! We also enjoyed Burn the Floor. Be sure and make reservations for any of the shows you want to attend right when you arrive or before the cruise however. At times service at the bars seemed slow but that is probably due to the large number of people on the ship. The floor with the casino is very crowded. We enjoyed breakfast at Taste Restaurant each morning instead of the buffet and the homemade omelet is the way to go! It was much more peaceful being served in the restaurant and they were very attentive each morning. We did not get to know any bartenders like past cruises due to the size of the ship unfortunately. The upgraded restaurants are worth going to and we enjoyed them. They had excellent service and food. We had a relaxing and fun cruise which was our main goal. Although we prefer a smaller ship, The Epic is a good cruise experience and we had a great week. Read Less

Not happy with the miscommunication regarding the non-alcoholic wine. Had the beverage package and still had to pay $24 for a bottle of non-alcoholic wine, yet my husband had red wine by the glass for no charge. Do not see the logic in this. Non-alcoholic was was only available in restaurants, not in bar/lounge/pool areas. Should be sold by the glass just like regular wine was. Made the call to Norwegian prior to our sail time to ask if there was non-alcoholic available, we were told yes, but not communicated that there would be a cost above the beverage package. The overall service, especially in the specialty restaurants was over and above. Disappointed in the O'Sheanan's pub, service was slow and mediocre. The cruise director and assistant cruise director made the overall experience extremely enjoyable. Our room stewart (Nayan) knew our names from the first time we introduced ourselves. The embarkation and disembarkation went very smoothly. We travelled with a big group and planned ahead for excursions and shows and dining and everything went smoothly. We were all very disappointed that our stay in St. Thomas was so short. We had to be back on the boat at 2PM which left very little time to sightsee and shop. I would not recommend this cruise simply for that reason. Dining was great; loved the freestyle dining! There were plenty of activities and shopping and entertainment on the boat itself. A number of us bought a weekly pass to the spa. The hydrotherapy and hot tub, heated lounge chairs, sauna and aromatherapy showers were amazing! You can get massages, facials, etc. also We used it every day and would highly recommend it. The fitness center had all the latest equipment and a great view of the sea along with classes and seminars. Loved it! Read Less

The port canaveral operation needs a manager to organize their operation. Right now it is a mess. Taxis & shuttles lined up to pay entry fees. Very poor oversight, I'd fire someone. The cruise lines should demand improvement right now. Once in NCL'S domaine, at pier 10, all went smooth & easy. Not a pretty ship. To me it looks like a barge with a hotel stuck on top. Well maintained, smart, clean interior decor. Smiling staff who are doing their very best, which is more than I could do considering some of the nasty people, "guests", they have to put up with. 4000 polite, normal guests, & a few mouthy morons who expect everything but are impolite, loud, cheap, ignorant slobs who demand something for nothing. This ship has the best entertainment afloat. Every venue offers top notch, quality performances. We really enjoyed the shows & the bands. All venues were filled to capacity & really rocked. 60, 70, & 80 year olds just mov'n & a shake'n. EPIC BEATTLES!, piano bar, Broadway shows, & Cirque! Something for everyone, really enjoyed every offering. After the dull 27 days aboard a HAL ship, this was a very welcome change. I don't know how anyone wouldn't rave about the food aboard NCL ships. They always seem to pay particular attention to PRESENTATION. Everything looks good. Every offering tasted good to me, but, I especially enjoyed the Dover Sole. Best I've evere had. Steaks were done as requested. I have a reaction to MSG & so I worry when I find beef served up especially tender...no problems with NCL...I love it. To each their own...NCL suits me. Read Less

First off, I may not be as experienced as some of the other reviewers and I wouldn't consider myself high maintenance. I personally believe each cruise line has positives and negatives and that you can have a good time based on your needs on pretty much anyone but one may be more suiting depending on your personality, party size and history. I am a 37 year old single male who loves to travel. My first cruise was in 2011 and this was my forth. All have been in the Caribbean and 7 days. I have sailed on the Carnival Glory, Carnival Victory, Royal Caribbean Adventure of the Seas, and The Norwegian Epic. I have sailed from Miami, San Juan, and Port Canaveral. Now onto my review. My cruise sailed out of Port Great Stirrup Cay Bahamas, Ocho Rios Jamaica, Grand Cayman, and Cozumel. Port Canaveral is probably the busiest port in the US. There were about 6 different ships that boarded the day we left. Despite the size, I found embarkation to be efficient and I had no issues. In fact, my luggage was even delivered to my room prior to 5pm which was a first in my experience. I had an inside cabin which many may complain about the design. Mainly the toilet being separate from the shower and the sink being separate from both. For me being a solo traveler, It was different but a non issue. Service to the cabins was done well, however this was the first time I was not introduced to the cabin steward. I commend the staff on the ship, great attitude, personality, and service. Especially due to the large capacity of customers which can only lead to even more complaints justifiable and non justifiable. The ship had great activities, a little bit of something for everyone. I enjoyed using the gym, having multiple free and specialty options for dinner, and even a separate "barbershop" for mens grooming services. The cirque dinner theatre show was wonderful and although it had a fee of $47 for premium seating, it was worth it. The clubs, pool parties, bowling, sports bar, howl at the moon and shows like burn the floor, comedy, and a magician provided a nice variety along with the typical art auction and games that you would find on most ships. The all white deck party was a highlight. Although the ship is huge, I chose to use the steps so that I wouldn't have to wait for elevators. Be aware that due to the size of the ship, many activities require reservations. Some can be made online prior to arrival, at the box office, or even on the room tv. I found the food to be good but not great. I didn't dine at the specialty restaurants because there were adequate other options and I was solo and often wanted to eat alone. This ship has solo cabins for others like me that want an affordable trip without needing to have a cabin mate. They also have optional solo guest gatherings in the solo lounge daily. If you like to be active, are mobile, youthful and energetic, I think the Epic could be a good time. Last but not least, the Free at Sea promotion put this cruise over the top for me. I basically only paid gratuities and had a drink package a.k.a. open bar for an entire week. Incredible savings for even a social drinker. I found that I was a little more social than usual thanks to the drink package. Some travelers that prefer smaller ships with more intimate service may not enjoy this . The haven cabins provide a more luxurious experience for those if they care to try it. But for my demographic and preferences, I will definitely do NCL again. I'm already booked for next December. Sure, I had some gripes about the cruise. Who wouldn't? But overall I was very pleased with the experience. This was the first experience on Norwegian for the wife and I. We found it to be very good in most areas we consider important: Entertainment, Dining, Gambling, Activities, Relaxation and multiple options at any given time. THE GOOD The ship offers so much to do, particularly with flexible included dining options. It's nice to have both a buffet and numerous, non-premium restaurant options. I love the noodle bar best and I highly recommend sitting at the counter. ENTERTAINMENT Wow! What impressive options. Two big shows, a cirque show, multiple bands and "street performers." Burn the Floor is an incredible dancing show. Everything from ballroom dance to the foxtrot and beyond. Amazing footwork. Kylie from South Africa steals the show. Priscilla Queen of the Desert is a cute Broadway-style adaptation with good production value, although the show's appeal is somewhat limited. Cirque Dreams dinner show. While an additional charge - Wow! Epic Beatles - great, no awesome tribute band. John is spot-on. Siglo - another awesome band. The Manhattan band - We tried to sit through two of their performances but the singing was just too off-key. Degas - He did a Neil Diamond set and other great appearances. A re-creation of Liverpool's Cavern Club was a great venue for the Beatles. And the main theaters fit their performances well, too. DINING We mostly stuck to the buffet, which was nice. However, we were dismayed by frequently being turned away from various restaurants and service counters because they were preparing to close for extended periods throughout the day. We would always seem to approach them at that time. In fact, during certain hours, there were only one or two limited dining options open on the entire vessel. You would think at least the buffet would maintain some level of continuous service. ACTIVITIES The water park is great fun. RELAXATION The thermal spa is to die for! Not only is it huge, it offers everything you'd expect from a spa and more. Saunas, steam rooms, Jacuzzis, waterfalls, and bubbles!!! The staff's aggressiveness, however, reflects the overall feeling onboard that every crew member has a sales quota. THE BAD Although we found a few diamonds in the rough, the overall level of service was not world-class by any means. A bit of snootiness here, indifference there and it all adds up. THE UGLY The toilets are awful, and since you'll probably be using them now and then, you'll certainly notice. Super-thin seats that make you feel like you're sitting on the bowl rim. Cheap, one-ply tissue. Ugh! The TV is almost as bad. No football games during one of the biggest weeks of the season. Just European soccer, and lots of it. I'd understand if the ship was servicing European travelers, but this is out of Florida! Read Less

Overall this was a fabulous cruise. The choices of anything to do or eat were abundant. The freestyle cruising was greatly enjoyed. For the most part, the staff were exceptional. I cannot say enough how much we enjoyed our cruise but as always, there are a few negatives. The toilet paper was horrible. There is not enough light in the cabins to read the daily info sheet unless you lay on the bed and put on the little reading lights. Moderno is an awful restaurant - do not waste your money. This was one of the worst Brazilian restaurants we have ever been to. Cagney's was exceptional, La Cucina was delicious however getting our order right was a bit of a challenge. Le Bistro was so good we went there twice. Also do not waste your money on the Discover St Thomas and Megan's Bay tour. This tour had too much in it for exceptionally short the amount of time we were in port so we had to pass on everything related to Blackbeard's Castle. We did complain and received a 20% credit. Pricilla Queen of the Desert show was hysterically funny. We saw it twice. However there were quite a few older people on the cruise who thought it was a little to risqué. It's a cult favorite so if you think Rocky Horror is fun, you will love this one too. All in all we had a fabulous time and I highly recommend the Epic. Read Less

Overall the cruise was great, compared to others we found more activities and lots more to do mostly in the evenings. The evening shows like newlywed not so newlywed, the perfect couple, celebrity dance off, cirque de soliel, burn the floor, comedians were amazing. I didn't care for the Pricilla Queen show, waste of time. The check in was a disaster took hours no clear signs or staff around to guide people, messy. The daytime activities even on sea days were lacking, I saw past schedules from people you recently went on other Norweigan ships- they had more interesting things like cupcake decorating class, interactive cooking demos... we didn't have much of that more like bingo and some poolside contests, the fun stuff like wine and chocolate was an additional cost, we pay enough for the cruise there should not be an extra cost. The cruise director Scott and assistant cruise director she was british were very friendly, smiling always and they made the ship more fun. There was options for everyone for food, however we did ask for a special diet menu and a few nights were very disappointed, one they made a huge error and brought us shrimp in our pasta we saw it and sent it back as strict religious vegetarians, next clean plate as we started eating we found another shrimp hidden, we were disgusted. I called the executive chef. At Thanksgiving dinner we were just given a potato cake with spinach it wasn't enough food and the apps were always salad which consisted of few pieces of lettuce, onions and few cucumbers, surely you can do better than that with a salad, we indicated we ate dairy so goat cheese and beets or candied walnuts something more original especially on thanksgiving would have been nice. I think there were too many people so the service lacked a little especially since on every other cruise I have been on they went above and beyond with our special diet to make us amazing tasty filling dishes, here we were more of an after thought. they need more adult pools and kids should not be allows in hot tubs, one day they put bubble bath in the hot tubs and made a mess, the kids stayed in the hot tubs for hours, this should be for adults only. the H2o pool was so small, need bigger adult pool, rock climbing was closed everyday when I checked. The tender boats in Bahamas were also a big issue and we had to wait hours to get to the island. The pros: activities and most shows were good, princess was so bad in this aspect. Kunal our service at the taste restaurants was excellent. Rayz the maître de was good he definitely made an effort. Praveen the chef did come to our table to apologize for the shrimp incident, the executive chef also apologized which was nice of them. Cruise director and assistant cruise director were excellent at entertaining people. Most staff were friendly. and the washy washy ladies were very nice. Read Less

We are NCL cruisers but have only been on smaller ships. This was our first time to cruise on a massive ship so were excited by the anticipation of it. We cruised a B2B from Barcelona to Port Canaveral, then remained on board for the next 7 day cruise following the TA. At full capacity, it is like living and walking on a street in Manhattan with so many people lined up for the restaurants and other venues. We never had to book our entertainment before so were caught short by not doing it early enough in the cruise and getting locked out of them. I also thought Priscilla was uncalled for on a ship with children and an early showing. It was also on channel 11 throughout the trip. I felt this was shameful. I think there should have been an elevator in the center of the ship and the difficult access to get to the guest services from the rear of the ship but that's a small thing. The atrium was not large or ornate and there aren't enough chairs in it to host the many events that are held in it. We had to sit up in O'Sheehans bar and look down most of the time and Sunday football was VERY LOUD on the TV's up there. All the activities are on either end of the ship so we found ourselves running back and forth between them. That's how we got our exercise between meals! There were not enough deck chairs to suit all the passengers on sea days or any other days for that matter. The morning Zumba class was great. Pedro, the Cruise Director, was great and is a quality guy. We also had help from Gary the restaurant manager early on and he remembered us throughout the transits, On the plus side, the food was absolutely delicious and bountiful. The dinner themes in the buffet were great, The servers and stewards were very nice and helpful too and the shows we were able to get into were excellent as usual. We like NCL and will stick with them but will probably stay with the smaller ships. Read Less

The standard of accommodation was excellent as was the food and service from the staff. The only thing to be cautious about is that there is an obligatory 18% service charge on every service at the spa. This is not necessarily apparent and was never pointed out to me prior to any treatment. On a treatment such as a massage costing $195 the extra $35.10 is a considerable increase to the cost and considering I was encouraged to take treatments amounting to $390.70, which fortunately I declined I would have paid a further $70.32. This to me is not acceptable. beware also of the hard sell, which can spoil the enjoyment. I was constantly pressurised to purchase extra products which detracted from my enjoyment of the experience. Lighting in the staterooms could have been a little better. There was a good choice of entertainment and dining to suit most tastes and an exceptionally talented band called Siglo playing regularly in The Cavern. Read Less

This was our 19th cruise and 3rd on NCL. This was the first one on NCL in Europe, however, and on the newly refurbished EPIC. We like freestyle cruising, with open dining, and lots of options to eat. This ship was very well laid out and the food was very good. We did hear some horror stories from other passengers but we did not have any issues. One thing however is the staff on board, as nice as they were, did have many issues with their mgmt and the moral was not good. It did not impact our overall likeness of cruise, however. We just felt for them, as they had to deal with a lot. The Entertainment was also a large variety and overall very good. The one thing everyone will need to understand before getting onboard an NCL now is since they purchased Oceania and Regent, they are trying to bring their line to be much more "upscale" and more like a Celebrity or high end line. The drinks were the most we have "ever" spent on a cruise, and the drink package was just outrageous. It had to be at least twice what any of the comparable ships are doing so that was a bit of a disappointment. Did not bother us, as we just did not drink on board much. The ports out of Barcelona were great, as we have been to them several times before but love going back. Be aware that when cruising to European cities on NCL, they will charge an additional 10% VAT to everything on board. The drinks had a 28% tax on every drink for instance. They were not allowing to bring on your own wine, or water. Just an FYI. Read Less
