My wife and I love NCL, with that said our experience on the Epic left us disappointed. We would not go on the Epic again nor would we recommend it. Not enough space for seating during meal times, not sure what they were thinking when designing the ship. Even the main dinning area you must have reservations or wait long periods to get in. The show's you need to have reservations, we have never experienced this with any other cruise we have taken, even with other cruise lines. To get a tender we waited 1 3/4 hour. This appeared to be poor management, only saw two tenders used. On the return to the ship they had 5 tenders, they had many upset people complaining, probably why they bumped up the tenders for the return. No privacy in the restroom area. It was clear to us that the ship size is more about making money than customer service. We will certainly do NCL again, but we will stay to the smaller ships. Read Less

I We live near Port Canaveral and decided to try Norwegian as we have never been on one of their ships. The boarding process took no more time than the Oasis ofthr Seas that we had taken last year but there the similarities ended. Our cabin, inside, was quite small. We usually book and oceanview but the incentives to take an inside cabin far outweighed those offered for an oceanview so I figured it would be Ok for a week. Everything was in the room! The toilet, the shower and the tiny sink. True there was frosted glass enclosures around both the toilet and the shower but there was no sense of privacy. We found that we were constantly walking through the Smokey casino to either reach the entertainment area at one end or the main dining rooms at the other end. With the exception of the Epic theater all areas seemed very congested. We’re as the Oasis with it’s 5000 passanger count never seemed crowded. The food was just OK, much better on the Oasis. The entertainment was good but we had trouble listening to some of the vocal groups as they were in small lounges with not enough seating. I’ll stick with Royal Caribbean! Read Less

It was my sister's 75th birthday and we went with her whole family to celebrate it. I found the cruise to be very overcrowded, there were over 4100 passengers. There were lines for entertainment and food. Embarking and disembarking took over an hour for each. I am 78 years old and I was never able to find a seat at the "howl at the moon" piano bar. I enjoyed the games at the Atrium, but had to stand for most of them. The food was the very worst that I have ever had on a cruise. Never had lobster offered. Shrimp (except for the Japanese restaurant) were small, not fresh and slimy. Not one meal was delicious. Cabin was small. Very small shower and toilet facilities. Casino was the biggest rip-off of all. I played Texas Hold'em and when I've played in land casinos, the highest maximum rake that I have ever seen has been $7 per hand.. On this ship it was 10% of each pot with a maximum of $25. Absolutely ridiculous! On one of the nights, we had 8 of us playing and there were no winners, because the casino ended up with all the money. A small bottle of water was $4, a bag of pretzels was $7. Everything in the shops is way overpriced. The pluses were that the entertainment was very good(although mostly too loud). The staff was very friendly and efficient. Read Less

Having sailed NCL 3 times previously I returned after 15 years and 14 cruises on RCCL and Celebrity. From embarkation delays (over 4 hours with no NCL representative outside the terminal area to answer questions) to lengthy delays and confusion at dining rooms entrances when dinner reservations had been made to just plain poor service around the ship (pool deck / restaurants (other then specialty dining) and cabin attendant ---- I will never sail NCL again. Cabin attendant was confused and not very sociable or attentive to me and my wifes needs. When arriving in cabin we found a used razor sitting on the vanity, a dirty glass and the carpet in need of a vacuuming. The service around the ship was no where near what I have experienced on RCCL and Celebrity cruise over the last 14 sailings NOR was it what it was when I last sailed on NCL. Food quality was nothing spectacular and the overall experience left me headed back to RCCL and Celebrity for my next sailing. Read Less

This was our second trip to Europe which starting from Sweden, this time I was traveling with my sister. We traveled 3 weeks prior to sailing the NCL EPIC from Barcelona. We had $60 onboard credit that the travel agent told us could be used onboard. We ordered 12 bottles of water and 2 cans of soft drinks from the minibar. Their customer service on board also confirmed we could use our onboard credit to order bottles of water and/or purchase at the mini bar. However, they charged us US$46 on my credit card for the 12 bottled water and US$22.14 for two cans of soft drinks. We requested the refund but they just refunded $10 to us. Very frustrated was the housekeeping guy always knocking the door at night. He called my desk phone if I was unable to open the door(facial time), he kept ringing my desk phone even after 10 PM asking if we need anything, the main reason was asking for tips as we gave him the first 2 days. He wouldn't provide us the next day activities notice if we didn't give him tips. We saw other guesses received the activities notice posted on their doors. Also the free 250 internet minutes part of the promotion offer was waste of money as we couldn't connect to the internet from the cabin at all. I enjoyed cursing but won't recommend NCL to my family & friends. Read Less

Having to pay over $200 for Wi-Fi that does not work is just not right. And I mean "99% DOES NOT WORK". You try and log in and you get “The Proxy server isn’t responding”, and if you get logged in the time to load a page is forever. When I talked to the IT person he was rude and said: "Oh, yes it is normal for a web page to take 5 minutes to load, and I don't do phones, only internet." The 2nd time I approached him he was very curt. I needed the service so I had to get up at 4:00 am to use the Wi-Fi. It seemed like a lot of the food we got had no taste, so bland if I closed my eyes I would not know what I was eating. The breakfast buffet was good except the potatoes. You know how potatoes get from setting. In the main dining restaurant, my lasagna was very dry and the cheese on top was inedible, probably from sitting under or over heat. Our next meal at main dining resulted in a waiter that ignored all his tables while he talked. I had to remind him he was ignoring his tables to make him go away. What made this worse was he barely could speak English. Overall most food was good. At the Spiegel Tent show and dinner, we got a menu, BUT they did not ask what we wanted. Everybody got steak, a great steak but what if I did not eat meat? There are not menus except at the restaurants; we had to walk to each one to see the menu. At another show the bartender in the main theater let people stand in line for 10 minutes then just closed the bar. He could see the line but made no effort to give advance warning that the bar closed when the show started. I watched a very polite man treated like crap. I am sad to say that this was not the only time I was exposed to staff rudeness. The daily news letter leaves a lot of unanswered questions, plan on having to ask for info about simple things. The map of the ship is not the best. In the daily news letter I did not see the small little mention about tendering. I had no idea what tendering meant. When I did find out what it meant, it was too late, so it was 1:00 pm before we got a ride to shore, so we missed our tour. By the way tendering means singing up to get a boat to shore. I have been on 4 cruises and this was the first time I had heard of this. Last; charging a gratuity for the liquor in the mini bar is a rip-off, you pay $9 for a $2 bottle of liquor and then they add a fee PLUS 18% gratuity. I paid $35 for 3 little bottles. Read Less

We had a balcony on deck 12, found the room very comfortable, our room steward was very helpful, kind and efficient loved the balcony its a great feature on the ship. Found the service to be ok in some areas such as the bars they were just totally overwhelmed. The best service was in the buffet and specialty dining. The food at the buffet was terrific, just no complaints about the food what so ever, staff just could'nt do enough for us. The ship itself was enjoyable except for the pool, really 3 small pools for 4,000 people, went down the 2nd day at sea at 7:30 a.m. all chairs already staked out for the day yet no one occupied them for hours, why is this allowed? First port of call was Tortolla took cab for $10 per person to Cane Garden Bay beach, what a great day, enjoyable at every turn, and our driver was very informative just terrific, excursion 2 was St Thomas we booked this with the cruise ship because of the short amount of time, what a mistake our bus was just short of a danger to your health and the drivers mic was broken so he got out at traffic stops and ran outside the vehicle to talk with us at $49.00 a person it was a rip off, NCL did try to make it right but it was too little too late.Excursion 3 at NCL own island was cancelled due to poor weather not much done to make up for this on the ship usual fair offered. Last but not least was the 400 students from Clemson UNI that were on our cruise with drink packages, nothing but a drunken free for all, they took over the hot tubs and pools were unruly and out of control and no one from the ships staff did anything about it. disembarkment is a sheer nightmare 3hrs Read Less

I am a Celiac so you better enjoy jello for dessert. No way to tell if any items in buffet are ok for you to eat and the staff doesn't have a clue. Most think gluten has something to do with sugar. Buffet lines are long and they ran out of gluten free crust for pizza. ok for small children to play in pool but not teenagers. Nothing for them to do except the climbing wall and basket ball court. Toilets in the rooms are enclosed by a clouded glass door so you better be friendly with your room mate. Not suitable for dating people or if you are modest in any way. Lighting in the room was terrible to see, seems to be arranged for "Mood Lighting" so it's ok if you are in the MOOD. Just be sure to pluck your eyebrows before you go. Room had plenty of closet space which is an item on the plus side. Getting off the ship is a nightmare. You should schedule your exit to be last off. You have 3000 of the 4000 people getting off on the" walk off program "and it is like cattle with no direction from the staff. You had 3000 people all on the 7th floor at the same time. Review Norwegian Epic 7 day cruise to Virgin Islands and Bahamas Overall rating 2 out of 5. Will not travel on this ship again and that sentiment was shared by most of the people we talked to, especially the veteran travelers. Ship is nice décor and was very clean. The Stewards did a fantastic job cleaning the rooms and all ship areas were very clean. Getting on the ship is a nightmare. Port Canveral cannot handled the traffic that 4 large cruise ships create on a Saturday. It took us 2 hours in a hot bus just to unload. Moving about the ship was very difficult for most passengers (since we are all old folks). The main deck levels of 5 and 6 are confusing since the forward elevator bank did not stop at level 5 so you were often walking through a very smoke filled casino to get to the restaurants. There is not system of carpet colors or frequent ship diagrams to let you know where you are and how to get to your destination. Elevators were very slow. We had to walk one morning down 8 decks to make our excursion schedule. On the excursion days everyone was wanting an elevator and they could not handle the load. I shutter to think what it would be like in an emergency. Restaurants were well staffed yet the service was slow. Of course we were usually not rushed. The main dining room “TASTE” has smoke flowing from the casino right down into the floor of the main area. We usually got back into the corners of the dining area to make it tolerable. The other main dining area Manhattan was better. Both had the same menu Manhattan has a slightly stricter dress code. Food was pretty good but it is not up to the quality that we have come to expect on cruises. The best dishes always had a surcharge of around $25 per entrée. Things like lobster and good steaks were high priced extras. A lot of fish, lamb and cheap beef entrees. Shrimp came out in dishes maybe 2-3 shrimp in the entree. Very cheap. Water bottles were not included in the beverage package. The biggest issue was the small venues for entertainment. There is one big theater. All entertainment had to be reserved and a lot of the shows were full. After the first show, if you had a reservation, there was absolutely no place to set down for the rest of the night. If you wanted to hear a band for watch an activity you had to get there two hours ahead to maybe get a seat. We spent a lot of time with our friends around the pool deck or in the dining room just so we could have a place to sit down. It was an awful week of roaming the ship looking for good entertainment and just a dang place to sit down. You would think Norwegian could provide more seating in the venues instead of a large lounge chair that took up half the room for only one person! The Atrium area was a main gathering place and always something loud going on. A game show, presentation, dancing, loud band, etc. Guess where they put the guest services counter, excursion desk and other service counters? Yes, right across from the Atrium. You could not hear the person across the counter. We had to just leave and come back when it was quieter. Again, this is big problem since most of us on the cruise can’t hear but 50% anyway – on a good day! Oh, and guess where you had the least seating? Right, the Atrium. Where all the big activities were presented they had the least seating. At night people were standing 2 and 3 deep. It made you want to bring your own wheelchair or walker so you could at least have a place to sit down! Read Less

I took this cruise with a club my wife and I belonged to. I have sailed on Princess many times ,once on the Epic and thought it would be fun to go on a trip with the club. The ship was a big disapointment.We had an inside cabin which was very small. Its layed out in a weird configeration with a red curtain between the bed and shower. The sink is in the bedroom, so when you leave the bathroom you have to pull curtain aside and go to the tiny sink to wash your hands. We found ourselves getting into each others way. You would think the toilet, shower , and sink would be in one location. We are not big people and with that layout we were always in each others way,if you are a large person you will probablely have trouble in that weird layout. The ships comman areas always feel crowded . The buffet had a large selection of food. The only thing I found was it was not as hot as it should be , this included the two main dining rooms. One word of caution, in the morning the floors in the entire buffet are very slippery, I saw one woman fall. You can take your food outside to eat at the many tables located there. the problem with that is the constant loud dance music they pump out of huge speakers . The band stage is also located on the same deck not to far from the tables and when the band playes its way too loud! Its hard to hold a conversation. With all the people on the ship I didnt think the bathrooms were cleaned as often as they could be. With the drink package you have to go up to the very crowded bar area and wait till a bartender gets your order. Its usually packed. Staff does not seem too happy, The way the hallways are laid out where the cabins are is confusing with many turns, its easy to get confused to where your cabin is. The elevators are always packed ,I ony found two banks on eitherside of eack other, one in the front and back. The jogging track is on deck 7 and has no view only lifeboats to look at when you are walking or jogging and its only on one side of the ship. Even though they have smoking areas on the ship you will see people light up in areas where they are not suppose to, as by the jogging track and above the pool areas. I have taken 13 cruises and I would never go on this boat again if the gave it to me for free. Read Less

Just got home from our Norweigan Cruise. This was our 6th cruise ,and by far the worst ever! Loved all our other cruises, but this one was horrible. Staff was either rude or unhelpful. Food menu items were nowhere up to what we are used too, an every meal was cold. Steak at Cagneys was way over cooked. Eggs Benedict at Taste was complete raw(egg whites were still clear).We spoke to the head of the hotel part after filing a complaint on the ship. He said that had we complained earlier in the cruise, they could have red flagged out card that we prefer our food hot. I simply asked him, shouldn't that be the standard that all food is served hot??? Room layout was different, just curtain between the tub, toilet and rest of the room. Not sure if I liked that or not. Plus they had extra charges on everything! Some meal options in the free dining were $20-25. Plus the menus changed very little from day to day. Ate at Taste at noon one day, and the next night we had the exact same menu for supper. Not really the ships fault, but they need to work out a new system if they are going to require reservations in the pay restaurants and for entertainment. After Tuesday there were no reservations available in any of the pay restaurants or the entertainment. We complained because our package included several pay meals. They told us to just show up because most people don't cancel their reservations even if they aren't coming. We would have to stand in line and see if tickets were available. I have a bad knee and can't stand for an hour waiting. Also, now you have to pay for room serve--$8 if you want something except breakfast delivered. Do have to say that we did enjoy the entertainment, and the New Years Eve party was lots of fun!! hsve to honestly say I won't go on the Epic again. Read Less

We choose this cruise for the ports and found it to be a disappointment in service. The ship is so big that NCL cannot manage the customer experience. 5 points: 1. the check-in process backed up and it took us 3.5 hours to board, missing the onboard activities and heading straight to the overboard drill 2. the captain had admitted he had no experience docking in Falmouth, Jamaica and failed to do so in the wind. He skipped the port and we were credited $33 per person = 1.9% of the cost of the cruise. 3. the ship sponsored tour in Grand Cayman failed to realize the holiday the the brewery on the tour was closed. Refund = $11 (25%) 4. our dinner reservaton recorded by one of the ship officers was not registered in the system, and our party of 6 did not have a seat when we arrived. The officer in charge of the dining room said, "I know YOU don't have a reservations because I approved all reservations of 6 or more". ????? 5. We asked if the excursion into Cozumel would go to places on the tour (ref: tour in Caymans) and the Dir of Excursions said "I live there" . We were not sure what that meant. Cabin was a weird design but ok. Shower and toilet were separate compartments. Dining room service was average and food was very bland. Worst embarkation I've ever had. I wanted to LOVE this cruise for so many reasons, and we did.... with the exception of the staff who were GRUMPY the entire time we were there for our "Happy Vacation!" Positive- *Check-in was a breeze *Ship is perfect for families- The Family Balcony room had great storage for a family of 4. *The slides, entertainment and Splash Academy were all fantastic. -Dueling piano Bars were Great! Negative- The STAFF! I barely saw a smile throughout the whole ship for any days that we were there! *Super long lines at the pool bar, with unfriendly bartenders. *If you were not standing in a certain "station" at the bar, they would not serve you, even if they weren't helping someone. *In 7 days, only two people actually asked us if we wanted a drink. (Not smiling) *The food was "okay." *Our room attendant barely said hello *I would say "good morning" without a response from team members! *It wasn't a surprise to walk by someone and not be greeted. 6 nights of dinners, and we only had ONE outstanding waiter. That was Alfredo at Taste! Additionally, the ONLY friendly bartender I found was Aarron V! He was the only one I saw smiling the whole week and would go back to his line because I knew he would happily take care of us. No one else would. I honestly feel that Aaron and Alfredo should be placed on better staff, because the rest of the team is bringing them down. At the end of the day, this could be an absolute AMAZING ship if they started with a brand new staff. If they had the same team as Royal Caribbean, we would go on this ship over and over and over, but unfortunately, I don't ever want to spend 7 days of my vacation with a whole bunch of grumpy people again! This would be a great place for families, if your truly don't care about the service- but if you do, I'd choose far, far, far away from Epic! Read Less

We had friends already booked so decided to give Norwegian a try ...we booked a balcony cabin. What a shock that was. Very. Small had to back up in beside the bed in order for hubby to go past ... Bathroom toilet was seperate and very small no fan no privacy weird set up sink was in room and very small not deep , shower was ok. Our previous inside cabins were easier to move in than this one .... Waiting 1 hour to get seated in dinning room then over 2.5 hours for dinner was ridiculous a Hubby had a coffee I asked for tea got a cup and tea bag wIted over 20 min for hot water hubby had 2 coffees during this time , one night we were seated and received our menu the didn't see. Waiter for 20 min to place our order. Received dinner. Took a long time. Then waited for 20 min for table to be cleared there were 6 of us. Got desert menu and then another 15 before anyone came to take our order... Same in both restaurants taste and Manhattwn, , They say it's the Freestyle. Do what you want when you want but theatre is sooo small you need to book all your shows ahead of time the line up 20 min early to get a seat with your friends. Same goes for comedy club. Have to book in advance. And chairs were pub style bar stools very uncomfortBle for older folks , we missed a biooked show due to the late service in the dinning room one night , Not enough seating in the adults only area every day people saving seats at 7 am for the day. My first experience on Norwegian and probably my last! The fine dining was very good, and so was the main dining room, what was bad was the buffet! Too many people, wait in line to long in the Buffett and then Impossible to find a place to sit down. Lines for the elevator were just as long, took you about 10-15 minutes to catch an elevator. We were a big group and some of us had the drink package, but at dinner one evening they took our drink orders then I ended up getting a 20.00 charge on my card for some wine which I never ordered, probably someone in our group ordered it, and they put it on my card, which was impossible to get the charge taken off, you would think they were going to go bankrupt for giving you credit for something that was put on your card by their mistake. We had a room with a balcony which was nice but the restroom and shower were terrible, you have no privacy because the shower, toilet and sinks are all separate. The port excursions were fun, We didn't know we needed a tenure reservation, and by the time we found out we were stuck at the end of the alaphabet, just to find out when our letter came up, they never checked to,see if people were on the right reservation or not, so the next tenure we took we got on the A group since they didn't check.. You need a reservation to attend comedy shows and all other shows, on board! Just too many people on the ship. Read Less

I had good experience with 2 NCL ships before, smaller esp the SUN that's why I chose Epic. I was the group coordinator for a class reunion and I had 48 people in the group and majority of us were disappointed since we had a very good experience with Oasis of the Seas with RC in our previous reunion in 2013. The group adviser assigned to me is too hard to reach and is always in a rush when he responds to you. The ship was so big and crowded, there is no room to relax and unwind like the Royal Carribean big ships. They filled up an entire 6th floor with casino and the lobby and reception area wasn't impressive at all. The staff at the reception desk were not friendly at all, majority have attitude problems, I think they need to be retrained about customer service. I had a balcony room which was so crowded, can't hardly move in between the beds and the so called cabinets/drawers. You cannot even arrange clothing neatly in those drawers. I don't like the glass showers and glass toilet. The sofa took over half of the room space. Main dining area service was horrible for the 1st night, it got better the next night after I complained to the group coordinator in the ship. They cannot even make a special arrangement for a big group, either you go very early or late dining which is 930 pm....talking about being hungry, food wasn't good plus the horrible service. I see empty tables that's why I cannot understand why they cannot sit us a little earlier than 930 pm. We finally got 800 pm dining after I pleaded with the chief maitre d, I should have gone to him right away. Some of my group wasn't happy with their specialty dining as well. Some of the buffet nights were good, Mediterranian, Spanish and seafood nights, we skipped the main dining areas those nights. We requested a Filipino breakfast since we have a group of Filipina nurses but it wasn't granted. We had a very good breakfast and dinner in Oasis of the Seas....they made us feel very special, thanks to the Filipino chefs. Entertainment was good, dance crews were all very friendly...we really had a lot of fun dancing. Embarkation was smooth, luggage came right away but disembarkation was a horrible experience for me. I didn't book my ride back to the airport with NCL and i have to leave early....I was told that I have to carry my own luggage if I wanna leave early...again service desk people needs retraining. They never offered any help at all. I will never recommend this ship at all. I never saw the captain and the cruise director at all....are they unfriendly people too like the majority of the crews. A lot of lazy crews esp in the dining and buffet ares. I hope that they improve their service if they want more satisfied customers. Read Less
