The day trips were amazing (although I only went on one of the shore excursions specifically set up by the cruise ship). The dining and entertainment on the Epic was just that...Epic! We were blown away every night by the caliber of the shows and friendliness of the staff! Pricilla, Cirque, Howl at the Moon, the Tre Amichi, Miro the Magician...all amazing! And the staff were absolutely wonderful. Getting on and off the ship was usually fairly easy, the biggest jam up was the elevators getting up to your room. Not an issue if you are willing to take the stairs or sit and have a drink before heading to your stateroom at the end of your day. Our cabin was comfortable and quiet, and our housekeeper Zanial took care of anything we needed. This was my first cruise and I hope will not be my last. I couldn't imagine it being any better than the Norweigan Epic. Read Less

This was a great cruise with plenty of activities for the days at sea or if you do not go ashore. The cruise director and his staff always have thing to do. The rooms are clean and well maintained if average in size. It is big enough to offer numerous activities but small enough to feel like full service. We went over the spring break period and were not overwhelmed by children. The embarkation and disembarkation does not make you wait forever like some of the cruise lines if you are not platinum level or above. The fitness area has plenty of newer equipment. The bar staff makes every effort to remember your name and what you are drinking. For the best Bloody Mary on the high seas see Javier in the Atrium Bar. Cagneys Steak House was an excellent dining experience. Don miss it. The entertainment was very good. The cruise entertainment director personally made appearance at most activities. Read Less

Our daughter has cruised this ship before and liked it. Liked the restaurants and entertainment. Did not like the smoky casino. Also, the elevator nearest us did not go to 5th floor. This was a major inconvenience. Would like to try another ship out of Port Canaveral. Shore excursion folks could not help us in determining if excursions would accept a disabled person. Guest services did not know about access on shore excursions. This disability office did not help either. After docking at Cozumel we discovered we could have done an excursion after all. Visited the spa services of acupuncture and massage/mini facial. Appreciated the special prices on port day. We saw the Newlywed Game, Cirqe, Priscilla: Queen of the desert, Burn the floor and musician/illusionist. Enjoyed all of them. Liked the evening music by Ben. Major complaint was the casino. It smells so bad and and makes the other floors smell, too. Read Less

I chose the Epic after learning of the high marks for entertainment. I had recently been on a Carnival cruise in October and the entertainment was nothing to rave about. I planned this trip with 9 other women. Some had been on cruises and some were first timers. We were all over 60. This was the largest ship I have been on and I found it relatively easy to navigate - signs indicating which direction for odd and even room numbers were plentiful. As you exited the elevator there was always a map indicating what was on that floor. The food was excellent! We celebrated a birthday in LaBistro and the waiters were so accommodating and made it a very special evening. The shows were truly awesome. The Epicurean Cirque Dreams was worth the extra charge. If you go on this ship don't miss it. As far as the rooms go, they are very tight quarters. Lots of places to store your stuff but not much room to maneuver - a balcony was a help. I had a concern about the layout of the bathroom but we just pulled the curtain across when one of us was using the shower, etc. The sink is in the main room and there is very little light above it but we managed. Because of the hurricane damage to our original ports we ended up going to Jamaica and Grand Cayman. We hired what turned out to be a great tour guide in Jamaica. We wanted to go to a beach fairly close to the cruise terminal and it was fantastic. Our tour guide (Michael Foster owner of Royal Jamaica Tours) was professional and knowledgeable about his country. He spent the day with us and took us to a wonderful beach which was delightful. Food and drinks served to us on the beach which had maybe a dozen other beach guests. I would highly recommend his company if you want a private tour of this island. We opted to do a Norwegian operated excursion on Grand Cayman. It was a bus ride to the White House beach. I would not recommend this excursion. The beach is very small and the pool was not heated. The pool on the ship which was for adults was very warm but impossible to find a chair to lounge on. I would definitely go on this ship again - food and entertainment were epic! Read Less

Our annual before Christmas cruise, itinerary changed after the hurricane, but a very enjoyable time. Only specialty restaurant we did was the Brazilian Steakhouse, and really enjoyed it. Food was very good in both dining rooms, service was very good. Would definitely do this ship again. We didn't book any shore excursions since the itinerary changed, we got off the ship and did a little wandering/shopping. I did all three sea days in the gym, clean and very large, did not attend any classes. Adult pool was ok, the two adult hot tubs were not very warm but were very clean as though had been drained. Cabin was very clean and well attended, a perfect blend of never saw him much but never needed him. Pricilla Queen of the Desert was a great show, very adult theme, leave you kids somewhere else. Burn the floor was good, but not my preference, Comedy shows very good, on-board music very good as well. Read Less

First time on NORWEIGN Cruise. Picked this particular cruise for its itinerary and ship. Some of the reviews weren’t very good. I was a bit worried about the size of the ship, but also very excited. We are a couple in our mid 60’s traveling with two other couples and one single. Embarkation was smooth and painless. Went right away to the buffet and was delighted with the selection and cleanliness of the buffet. Food was really good. Then We went to check if our cabin (11th floor, mid ship balcony) was ready and it was. We found that having the bathroom divided into two sides, one being the potty and the other being the shower, was odd at first but not once was it inconvenient. Actually several times my hubby was showering and I was in the potty and it sped up our getting ready for dinner. There was SO much storage in the room, it was great. Every place you looked, there was more storage. We were able to keep our room neat And uncluttered for the whole week. The bed was awesome. Very, very comfortable. Pillows were great. Unlike other ships, our glass balcony outside was kept SO spotless during the whole cruise. In the past, I had to call housekeeping to come and wash the glass so we could see out when we were on the balcony. That was such a surprise and made such a difference to us being able to SIT and watch the world go by. We got the adult beverage package and three nights in a specialty restaurant. Other cruisers on the website, complained about the lines and no staff walking around. We never found that. Always great service...never a line....drinks were great. Mudslides were FABULOUS. One night, we ate in Cagneys Steak house. It was really delicious . We also ate in the Brazilian restaurant. It was just OK. Found the food very bland. And had to eat fast as The waitress was kind of hurrying us along. The third specialty restaurant was during the CIRQUE show. You had no choice of menu. Salad, soup and then filet mignon and jumbo shrimp. The food was delicious, but the show was CRAZY WONDERFUL.....we were thrilled. The other shows were good enough to be on broadway. Priscilla queen of the dessert was hilarious. We laughed so hard we cried. Stomp the floor was ok...the guys were bored. The late night comedy shows were so funny....even the earlier, cleaner comedy shows were good. Howl at the Moon Piano Bar was a blast. Singing along, listening to the banter between the piano players was sooo funny. We loved watching movies outside. So much fun.. The casino took our money. But I’m sure it takes everyone’s money who plays, wins and then decided to give it back. Had lots of fun loosing. Penny slots were great. Shoppes on board were about the same as every other cruise ship. High prices on jewelry, low prices on cigarettes and liquor. Ports were..well..the same crap, different islands. My hubby bought a tee shirt that says just that! Couldn’t find any place with free wireless internet. Did eat lunch in Margaritavelle in Cozumel, as they promised free internet. I couldn’t even get on line. Someone else got on line, but couldn’t text or call..oh well...we got off the ports (we missed Norweigns Private Island)due to bad weather and high waves. Never felt the ship move..NOT ONCE. it was wonderful !! We also got reimbursed the port charges for that port on our account. I thought that was really great. Customer service was awesome. Helpful. Friendly. Knowledgeable. My biggest fear was the crowds on board. Honestly the only time I felt crowded was upon leaving or boarding the ship on the ports. There was SO many elevators throughout the ship that we never waited more than two or three minutes. There was never a long line to be seated in the main dining room. And I guess I should mention that the food in the dining room was so delicious. Never a bad meal. Delicious soups, appetizers, main courses and sweet, delicious desserts. The activity director kept things jumping all the time. There were so many different activities to do, whether in port or at sea. Lots of games, shows, demonstrations..all day. The music at night so great. So many choices, so little time. Disembarkation was my only real complaint. It took us so long to get off the ship. People weren’t following directions being given over the speakers. So I guess I can’t blame the cruise line for people who just do their own thing and don’t take others into consideration . While on board we tried several times to see the agent about booking a future cruise. But that line was LONG. So now I am doing just that on line. So I can sum up our cruise in a few words: easy, relaxing, fun, serene, delicious, awesome, stress free, fattening, hilarious, sexy, and just treated like a king and queen. Looking back on two cruises on Carnival, both we were disappointed in. We didn’t like anything about our one cruise on Celebrity. Royal Caribbean was great also. But no comparison to this cruise on NORWEIGN EPIC. The cabin was great. The ship was Gorgeous, Food was delicious, employees went above and beyond...bagels and lox every morning. What could be better?? FABULOUS SHIP. FABULOUS TIME. THANK YOU NORWEIGN EPIC... Read Less

This was out first time aboard Norwegian Epic after a great Caribbean Cruise aboard Norwegian Star. We liked the freedom aboard and the choice of restaurants and times. The outdoors parties were great for all ages. We also like the climbing wall and pool areas. It is a large ship but you do not see the crowds. We were familiar with the ports and we tried something different to learn something new. These are the highlights of our Global Learning Adventures. We hiked the hills of Nassau up to Providence House with a great view of downtown, port and top of the cruise ships. We went to Mystic Mountain in Ocho Rios using a local van. We learned about Olympic history at Mystic Mountain Museum and got stuck under the rain while riding the cable car. We waited "singing in the rain". During our days at sea, we enjoyed the shows, dancing areas, and our cabin. We are inside cabin cruisers as we like darkness to rest. Our cabin is just to go to bed very late and wake up early to watch sunrise. Join us and be a Global Learner. Read Less

We had always sailed on a different line, but wanted to try NCL since they had outstanding reviews. We sailed on the Epic during Thanksgiving week. There were 3 of us and we shared a mini suite with balcony. The rooms are definitely laid out a little different, but we had a full size tub with shower and with the privacy curtain, we made it very well for a week!! As I said, it started off kind of rocky, with us having to wait in line for almost 3 hours to board; this was after our boarding time had already been rolled back a couple of hours. People were getting hostile due to the immigration thing and the inspection by the Coast Guard. Going through check in went pretty fast, and we were in our cabin (13241) between 4:30 and 5 and I don't think we pulled out of port until close to 6 pm. The Garden Buffet was GREAT every time I chose to eat there. Plenty of variety for even a picky eater and all the food was hot. We frequented O'Sheehan's Bar and Grill about every day. We had breakfast, lunch and dinner. I am not a wing person, but their Texas BBQ ones are great! The first couple of times we ate there, the food wasn't warm enough, so I filled out one of the little cards on the table, and we never got another semi warm meal. Just remember if you are ordering mixed drinks, they do take a little longer to get, but are well worth it. Moderno is a must if you are meat eater; it is well worth the 24.95 upcharge. The flank steak, lamb chops and filet mignon were the best in my opinion. Don't fill up on salad, or you won't be able to enjoy all that wonderful meat! Taste restaurant is ok...I wasn't too impressed with it. We had our Thanksgiving dinner there, and everyone but myself ordered turkey, and all said it was quite dry with no flavor. I had the prime rib, and it was cooked perfect and was tender and delicious. We did the Ice Bar because they had a special of buy one get one. The experience was neat, however, none of us liked the drinks that were served. You get 2 drink tickets, and our group of 6 only used 1 each, and didn't drink the other one. Waves bar was our favorite place on the ship!! The bartenders were attentive and so nice. James was our favorite, and he is a great guy. The drinks are the best...ask for a mini beer and you will love it! The room steward was terrific. Anything we needed, he had for us. He was worked to death, but always had a smile and pleasant hello. We only went to karaoke one night, and enjoyed it. We didn't do any of the other activities or shows, and we never got in the pools, which had lifeguards, and the children that were out and about or in the pool were very well behaved. Our ports were Nassau, Georgetown Cayman Islands, Jamaica and Half Stirrup Cay. We had been to Nassau and just chilled out at Fat Tuesdays having drinks and trying the conch fritters which were delicious. Georgetown, we took a tour and went to Hell and I got a dolphin kiss, which was terrific! Jamaica was just not my cup of tea. We did not arrange for any tours/activities, as we just wanted to wander around and shop. Doing so right in the port is ok, but I would not recommend going out of the gates unless you are in a large group. People want to touch you and I don't care for that lol We didn't get to tender at Half Stirrup Cay, as after the first few tenders went out, the water got rough, and by the time it had settled back down, it was really too late to try and get off the ship. Overall, it was a very enjoyable and pleasant cruise and we will definitely be going back on NCL! Read Less

I had a wonderful cruise to the Mediterranean on the Norwegian Epic. I've always wanted to take this cruise. I was able to land a great deal for a solo cabin back in Jan 2017. The cruise was $300 - $400 cheaper than the normal cost for an October cruise. I hurried up and secured my time off and placed my $50 deposit down. The icing on the cake was that the cruise left Barcelona on my birthday. I arrived to Barcelona a day earlier. I didn't have much time to view the city. I made sure to see the Sagrada Familia at night. Very different than seeing it in the daytime. The embarkation was a breeze. Since I'm a Latitudes Rewards member, I could have gone to their line to check in, but I forgot to inquire about it. I didn't see it until after I had already checked in. This line is at the far left end of the check in section in Barcelona. I went to the regular check-in lines and it took no more than 20 mins if that. Get there early. Make sure you have your documents already printed out and your Norwegian luggage tags with your cabin number already on the items. I usually don't tour the ships ahead of time. I feel that I watch so many of the videos online, that I have a good sense of where everything was. I really just wanted to eat something and then go on the waterslides which I did. If you want to do any water activity, keep your swimwear in your backpack or piece of luggage that you keep with you. My solo studio cabin was spacious for me. The studio lounge is a great spot to hang out in and to meet other solo travelers. There's a hostess who will write up activities on the dry erase board for the group. They usually meet up at 6p. You can have group dinners, see shows together, attend happy hours, play games and other neat stuff. I wasn't really going to have free time to attend these activities. It's great for those who don't want to do stuff by themselves. The food was very delicious to me. I didn't sign up for the specialty dinings. My favorite complimentary dining was the Noodle Bar. O'Sheehan's is great for breakfast if you don't want to go to the buffett. The Manhattan Room and Taste are great options for special events. I was satisfied. The entertainment was solid. The music could have been better. Not much R&B, lots of techno and Latin. I feel the music is better on their Caribbean cruise. I did get down for the Latin music. I guess I was looking for more diverse music. The musicians who performed on board were very good. My favorites were Tropimambo Duo and the Spanish Rumba Kings. I heard the Beatle's Show was very good, but I didn't want to see that. I only saw one of the productions: Dance the Floor. I thought that was very good. If you're not a fan of salsa, rumba and other Latin dances, this show is not for you. The cruise director and his staff were visible throughout the ship. That was nice. There were a decent amount of activities to do during the lone day at sea and on port days. I was never bored. If anything, more days at sea were needed. I thought service in the restaurants and shops were professional. No issues. My cabin steward did a great job decorating my cabin for my birthday, but then the day before my cruise ended she threw out the rest of my bottle of wine. I only had enough for half a glass, but still. This was a complimentary bottle for previously sailing with Norwegian. At least she didn't throw out my birthday cake. That took a few days to eat. The main reason I booked the cruise was because of the ports: Barcelona, Naples, Civitavecchia (for Rome), Livorno (for Florence),Cannes, Marseille and back to Barcelona. This is a great introduction to Italy, Spain and France. Grant it you only have about 5-6 hours in port, but that is enough to give you a taste of the city. You can decide after your trip if you want to go back and explore more. Naples is a gritty city. It's not for everyone. I'm from NYC, so it didn't shock me as much. The ride or walk from the port to the San Carlo Opera House is different for some. You'll see panhandlers, people trying to sell you stuff constantly and lots of graffiti. It wasn't my favorite port. If you can get past that, you can have some authentic Napoli pizza in the birthplace of piece. You can take a tour of the oldest functioning opera house in the world. There's lots of shopping you can do. There are some museums nearby. I don't suggest the View of Naples excursion. If you don't want to walk or have medical issues preventing you from walking, this 3 hour bus tour will be your best bet. Most people took excursions to Pompeii, Sorrento or Capri. The next port was Civitavecchia. I did the Rome on Your Own Tour. It's a 90 min bus ride to Rome. The meeting point was near the Arch di Constantine which is near the Coloseo. If you want to do the Vatican or Coloseo, definitely get your ticket ahead of time. I opted to go inside the Coloseo. It took me less than 10 mins to exchange my voucher for a timed ticket. I was in the Coloseo in less than 20 mins. The line for security was longer. No big bags. I was planning on walking Rome, but I hurt my ankle outside of the Coloseo. I had a change of plans. I located a hop on hop off bus (23 euros) which was a lifesaver. I rode the bus to the St Peter's Basilica area. I got off walked a little, took a picture and headed back. I didn't plan on getting anywhere near that side of Rome. I rode the bus to the Trevi Fountain stop. I got some pictures and threw my coin in. Be very careful here of your belongins. Then I was able to walk to the Pantheon which was my favorite stop. I ate at nearby restaurant, got some souvenirs and then got back on the hop on hop off bus. I rode that back to the Coloseo. I took pictures and recorded video. Rome is big and spread out. I'm glad I opted for this bus. Florence is two hours from Livorno. I did the David and Florence excursion. I love Florence. This was my favorite city. It was cool to see the David in person. We had a long walking tour of Florence which didn't leave us much time for shopping or anything. That was sad. I saw the Gate's of Paradise, the Duomo, Ponte Vecchio and the outside of the Uffizi. I think I could have done more on my own. I wanted to take my time to view the statues and buildings of Florence. The shopping looked amazing. Florence is known for their leather items and 18k gold. Decide what you want to accomplish before opting to book an excursion. The next two days were all about France. I didn't do much in Cannes. I opted to take the Monaco/Monte Carlo excursion. I'm glad I did since I don't think there was much for me to do for 5 hours in Cannes. The drive to Monaco was very nice. The tour was split up into two parts: Monte Carlo (casino area, Hotel de Paris, etc) and the Monaco area (Royal Palace, cathedral and great waterfront views). I had more fun in the old town Monaco area. We had so much free time there. There's only so many pictures you can take of the skyline and water. I would have given anything to take an hour from this trip and give it to the Florence trip. I was ready to go back on the ship. We saw the starting point for the Formula One Monte Carlo Grand Prix. There's not much to do if you aren't gambling. The casino doesn't open until 2p. Marseille was the last official port. This was probably my least favorite. There's definitely a language barrier if you don't know French. I got off the ship and explored. You can take a little train for 8 euros to the top of the hill where the Notre Dame Cathedral is. Other than that, there wasn't much to do for me in this port. I did a little shopping and found a crepes place. Instead of flying back to the US the day the cruise ended, I stayed an extra day in Barcelona. I did the hop on and hop off bus for 29 Euros. Best deal!!! I rode all over Barcelona. I hit La Rambla, Sagrada Familia, all the other Gaudi building stops, Montjuic, the waterfront and tons of other stops. Barcelona is a beautiful grand city. Disembarkation was good. I didn't hear my color called, but I just went to the disembarkation area and saw that it was flashing on the screens to exit. All and all, it was an awesome trip. I'd do it again for the value. I would definitely do Rome again and hit the Vatican City area only. I'd do Florence again and focus on the Uffizi. Naples is up in the area, I might focus on something that can get me on the Amalfi Coast Highway and away from the city. Cannes is a no. I feel Nice would be the same. I might try to do something further out at a vineyard. Marseille was a last minute change from Palma which I preferred. I might would just stay on the ship for Marseiile and give myself the second day at sea. If you want to experience three different countries, practice your foreign language skills like I did with Spanish and Italian and just want to enjoy the scenery and get away, I highly recommend this cruise and ship. Last bits of info, I didn't see as many minorities on this ship in this part of the world, but it didn't bother me. The only issues I had were in Naples and Rome where some locals thought I was actually from Africa because I had twists in my hair. I was mistaken for possibly being an immigrant. That didn't ruin my experience. I'd also say bring enough Euros if you don't want to use your credit card. 300 - 400 Euros should be enough for one person. When purchasing Euros definitely get smaller denominations. Not all the shops wanted to take my 20 Euro bill. If you can get the 5 Euro and 10 Euro, do that. Save the 20 Euro for restaurants then. Get a RFID protector for your credit cards and passport. Wear comfortable shoes. Make sure you cover up appropriately when entering churches. I went in the fall, so it wasn't that bad. During the summer is when people get in trouble. Most importantly, have fun and enjoy yourself. Read Less

My wife and I have sailed on dozens of different cruises over the years - we’ve lost count of how many we’ve taken. Four this year alone. At the last minute we got a decent offer to sail on NCL Epic so we acted impulsively. Historically I’ve never particularly enjoyed very large ships finding them to be too crowded and the queues are often long. So we booked this cruise primarily because of the destinations and the convenient dates for us. How wrong could I have been about NCL Epic. The service was outstanding from check-in to departure. We didn’t have to queue up once for restaurants or even tendering at Cannes. Our cabin steward, Jonathan, was very helpful and friendly and his towel sculptures were like nothing I’ve ever seen before. We stayed in a balcony cabin (13198), which was fine except we couldn’t get two cases under the bed! I would say it’s the best service I’ve ever received on a cruise ship. Something I didn’t expect when I booked it. The entertainment was top drawer - especially the band in The Cavern that played classic British and American rock music. When we got back to the U.K. we told our family that we should all go on her at some point in the future. Regarding the stops: Marseilles - we took (shared actually) a cab from the terminal to the harbour in town. We had a nice long walk round the harbour, up a hill to a lovely hotel with a great view and a beer. Cannes - we walked from the tender along the prom and then back via the shops and restaurants. Livorno - we booked a private guided tour with ItalyTours to Florence and Pisa. It was about half the cost and the service was far more personal as there were just 8 in our vehicle. Civitechnica - again we used ItalyTours to take us to Rome and show us the sights including the Vatican. ItalyTours were excellent we will use them again. Palma - we took a cab from the cruise terminal to the old town which was cheaper and quicker than going on the coach offered by NCL. Had a nice walk round the town topped off with cold drinks at the harbour. Read Less

This cruise was by far surprising to myself and my husband because of the size of the ship we did not anticipate so much nightlife of interest. We pre booked our dinners, spa appointments and shows. We are convinced that because of this our cruise proved quite successful. There are many bars, pubs and entertainment - different sounds, bands, performers onboard. So many shows in the pubs everynight, private bands, pianist, singers all througout the ship catering to different age groups. The disco was also crazy good. Poolside activities were awesome. The line ups onboard for a buffet meal was acceptable. All of the maitre d's at all restaurants were without a doubt always accommodating if we arrived a bit late for our reservations. The waiters were efficient although a few nights when we ate at Taste and Manhattan restaurants the waiters were not as efficient. $$$ - Le Bistro and La Cucina were a la carte while Teppanaki had a supplement charge of $29 p.p. It is not a bonus having so many restaurants which requires payment onboard, more so the a la carte restaurants. Casino - totally sufficient for the larger passenger numbers. The shore excursions too were great, an intimate visit to Cannes and the vineyards of Tuscany was breathtaking. Embarkation and disembarkation again remarkable smooth and efficient experience for such a large ship. An enjoyable trip overall. Thank you NCL. Read Less

Our first ever cruise was amazing on this amazing ship. A 50th birthday sail away celebration. We did Segway in Rome, Florence, Marseille and Majorca. This enabled us to quickly see all the sights in each port and get photos’s of all the major attraction we couldn’t have managed on foot. The ship’s excursion to Rome was over 200 pounds so we walked to the train station 20 mins, 10 Euro and did the Segway in Rome. We did pay for the Monaco and Eze tour from ship at 75 pounds which was worth it. You have to get a tender boat to and from ship so booking your own excursion could be risky. The tour to see Eze and the amazing hilltop village is a must see and got fantastic pictures. We also did the Viator tour to Florence and Pisa which was just a coach trip with time at each place 3 hours in Florence. The coach was parked behind cruise shuttle bus in Livorno so was well arranged. On board we were blown away by the amazing hot buffet and I mean above temperature safe food. I think my first ever. Lots to do on board. We did Cirque Dreams dinner show, a highlight, Pricilla Queen of the Desert in the Theatre again amazing. One other highlight was the piano player in the main atrium bar level 7. So relaxing and great piano playing and singing. Such a nice guy too. So sad to disembark this amazing holiday. The Service from the around the world staff was also amazing, so friendly. Oh and the food on board in the restaurants was great. Even had tepanyaki. Our balcony cabin was amazing and good value. Graham and Marc. Scotland Read Less

Full disclosure, this was the first cruise for both my boyfriend and myself. We are a young couple in our 20s from Canada who found this cruise at the right price just 2 months before sailing. The itinerary was ideal, which is what drew us to the cruise in the first place. We were not dissapointed! The boat is massive meaning there is so much to see and do. Also, seeing as it was the first cruise of October, the weather was perfect (not scorching) and not a lot of kids running around. We never had any issue finding loungers or felt that the pool/hot tubs/water slides were too crowded. Embarkation/Disembarkation: Very smooth! No hassle whatsoever. Cabin: Amazing! You don't have to be a cruising expert to know that cruise cabins are small; but we felt NCL did a great job of maximizing storage and we had no problem unpacking all our belongings. The bathroom set up worked well for us; however, I can see how having more than 2 people in the cabin or sharing with a friend or family member that is not your SO couple get a little awkward or cramped. The bed was reasonably comfortable and about the width of a King size bed. I'm about 5' 8" and my feet hung off the edge sometimes, but it didn't bother me at all. We were on the 12th floor mid-ship and our view was spectacular! We made full use of it a few times by having continental breakfast delivered to our room to eat on our balcony while enjoying the sunrise. Our steward, Freddy, kept our room in great shape by cleaning/making it up twice a day. He always made sure we had fresh towels and were topped up on ice. I think my favourite part was him leaving us a towel animal on our bed every evening. We loved them so much we kept them on top of the cabinet behind the sofa and made a little "towel animal zoo"! (I'm still a kid at heart) Dining: Delicious! We are not accustomed to having a 3 course meal for dinner every night but I'm sure not complaining. The food was very good and there was a wide variety of options given it was a limited menu. We only did the complementary dining and I liked that the MDR menu changed every night so we never felt like we were missing out by not going to the specialty restaurants. I liked Taste and Manhattan equally. The Garden cafe buffet had a lot of options but we didn't eat much here. O'Sheehan's had a good express breakfast and delicious chicken wings, but besides that I didn't care much for the nachos or the caesar salad. It's a good spot for a quick snack or a beer but otherwise I'd pass. Entertainment: Fantastic! We made the most out of the complementary entertainment. Burn the Floor was incredible! I did dance classes growing up so I love a good dance show and this one was absolutely mind blowing, even my boyfriend thought it was really good. Priscilla was good too, very entertaining but I thought it would be funnier. It's not suitable for young children (which they make very clear with multiple announcements before the start of the show) but I think it's fine for teenagers. The vocal impressionists were entertaining and the Detroit Soul Brothers were really fun (underrated show in my opinion). Service: The staff were very friendly and said hello whenever we walked by them. As mentioned, our steward Freddy was great! The servers were well trained and the whole operation ran like a well oiled machine. We did not have the UBP so we paid for whatever drinks we wanted. They had a "drink of the day" which changed daily and was set at a cheaper price ($9 vs. $12 reg). I did this a couple times, however, on 2 separate occasions the waiter accidentally charged the full $12 price and when we corrected him, he promptly and without hassle voided the first charge and charged the correct price, which we signed for. In our opinion, accidents happen and it's how the server handles it that defines service. Overall, we had an amazing first cruise and will definitely consider cruising with NCL again. I'll be posting a more detailed review on the NCL board, so for more info and pictures check it out! Read Less

We spent an extra day in Barcelona both before and after the cruise, it was well worth it. We took "Free Walking Tours" gothic area tour before the cruise and it was great. "Barcelona Day Tours" picked us and our luggage up after the cruise; we saw Park Guell, a Gaudi house and the outside of Sagrada Familia, then they dropped us off at the hotel. Another great tour. Our fav restaurant was Guell Tapas in the gothic quarter, great Paella. We stayed at Hotel Serhs Del Port which was inexpensive, clean with a wonderful staff. Unfortunately I used "Getaroom" to pay for the hotel, they didn't pay for the 2nd day, so I had to pay again. A week later and I still haven't gotten it fixed; Getaroom is difficult to reach and deal with, I won't make that mistake again! Embarkation was normal, got there by 10;30 and onboard by 11:30. Had lunch at OSheehans, the first of many; they do a fine lunch and the staff there are very attentive. Luggage took awhile got it around 3 or 4, but we spent that time getting to know the ship. We did Cirque Dreams and the meal, and it was fantastic, both show and meal were worth every penny. We ate at Moderno twice, It's my favorite and it's less crowded than the other restaurants, so we didn't have to make reservations, just showed up when hunger hit. Yummy! Also the waitress was super attentive. I found Taste, Manhatten and the buffet to be okay not great. I get that they are feeding 4,000 people, so my expectations were not high. Loved the buffet's pizza and liked the Eggs Benedict. Sorry, this girl hates bottled eggs. I don't agree with peeps who say barservice was bad, I thought it was very good and occasionally great. The secret is taking 50 singles with you and handing 1 over each time you hand your card over for a drink. I'm here to have a good time and that includes a happy, smiling waitstaff too! It works like a charm! Spread the love!! My husband and I are serious music lovers, we found the Guitarist, Paulo, in Maltings Bar, to be a cut (or 3) above what you usually find on a cruise ship. He is actually skilled enough to take cover songs and make them his own. He also has a big songlist, never boring. Most nights we were spent from walking all day, so we grabbed dinner; then listened to Paulo for a few drinks, then crashed...and then did it again the next day. I got NCL excursions for each port, it's my choice, yes I pay extra but I don't want to spend a second worrying about getting back to the boat; particularly Rome and Florence which are at least an hour inland, if not more! All the tours were great except Palma which after Rome and Florence is anticlimactic, plus I had enough at that point. The tour guides where all GREAT, and I mean that; knolwledgable, enthusiastic, careful and just made the tours so much better. I learned a lot in each city. Pompeii with Guido was such a learning experience, his information was huge. Wear good footwear, the walking is rough and some is uphill, not a tour for the unfit or disabled. Rome with Lizabeta and Letizia, again wear your best walking shoes, lotsa walking. We saw Trevi fountain, the Forum, St Peters Basilica, and the Colleseum inside and out. An absolutely fabulous day. They give you a nice lunch too. Not much time to shop, which was fine by me. Then Florence with Sami, I loved it. He gave you time with The David, and the info he shared with you was just great, I felt like I came away with a better understanding than I had expected. It's another walking tour, you'll see all the expected sights plus he recommends an outdoor café which was wonderful and not expensive. I had eggplant parm and my husband had a mushroom lasagna (white) which was fabulous. Next was Nice and EZE with Mimi. We took a bus from Cannes to Nice and she gave us an hour at the flower and spice market. I loved it and did some souviener shopping there; lavender, olive oil, soap and spices. Then a bus up the coast road to a old city, the views were spectacular. Not for peeps afraid of heights. A fair amout of walking and some up hill, but my favorite day. Then Palma, which is clean and full of pearl shops. The cathedral is fantastic and I learned a lot form the lecture, but I would have skipped it and stayed in the hot tub if I had it to do over. It was a fabulous trip! Read Less

Heard negative comments about sailing in big cruise ships but with Norwegian Epic, all we had were wonderful and memorable experience celebrating our 41st wedding anniversary. We never had any problem with embarkation and disembarkation because they are very organized despite having a large number of passengers. We visited Munich, Germany for 3 days, flew to Madrid, Spain and stayed for another 3 days, took a train to Barcelona, Spain before heading to the cruise ship the following day, Our cabin was well appointed and clean, There is a variety of good food and restaurants to choose from. No reason to get bored as there are plenty of entertainment and activities. Their staff are courteous and very helpful, Our shore excursions went smoothly. We were apprehensive at first when we went to Pisa, Italy thinking we would not be back on time but we did. For those who are planning to visit Rome, my advise is to start as early as 7 or 8 am to catch the train from the Port of Civitavecchia because it takes 1 hour to get to Rome and another hour to get back. Visiting Vatican City and its museum already took most of our day in Rome. The Hop On Hop Off tickets we bought was almost unused except to get us back to the ship on time from Vatican City to Termini Train Station. We stayed another 3 days in Barcelona at the end of our cruise. Overall, we had a great vacation! Read Less

I have sail on the Norwegian Escape with my husband and had such a great time. I saw that they had this Europe destination to Rome on the Epic so I decided that I would like to try the Epic. First, don't this to others that tell you that this ship, crew and food are not amazing. First the embarkation was so smooth out of Barcelona. Easy to get on and enjoy lunch. I came on this cruise with my 21 year old son. He was surprised how nice everything was on the Epic. He was a little scared because he has only taken Carnival ships before. I would recommend the bar in the atrium, some of the best bartenders on the ship. For food I would recommend the Shanghai's restaurant that is part of the free restaurants on the ship. I ate there every night. They have a noodle bar where they make the food fresh in front of you. The crew director was the same one I had on Escape. And I think that he got even better being on the Epic. The shows were fun. Please go see Burn the dance floor. Amazing dancers and amazing shows. The activities on the ship from bean bag toss to battle of the sexes extremely fun. The main dining rooms gave great services. There was only one thing I really think they need to fix on the ship is the bathroom. The shower on the side is fine, but the toilet area is a little tiny. You can't beat the value of this cruise. Last thing is pick the beverage package. It is so worth the money. Read Less

The architecture, the history, and the scenery were once in a lifetime beautiful! Would highly recommend the Western Mediterranean cruise. Lots to do aboard the Epic and food was excellent in the dining rooms. Very friendly and helpful crew members. Very happy with all the excursions we went on, each had it's own high points. Amalfi Coast scenery was spectacular and the ruins of Pompeii were steeped in history. rome was awesome and the buildings, cathedrals, and fountains were works of art. From the Colloseum to Michelangelo's sistene chapel, the highlights of Rome is something not to be missed. Just unbelievable to be standing at the base of the Leaning Tower of Pisa. Final tour brought us to Monte Carlo, home of the famous Casino, and Monaco home of Princess Grace. Last day we stayed on board and played on the 3 water slides and had a ball. Highly reccomend this cruise, we were very sorry to see it end. Read Less

I was one of a group of 4 girls aged 45-54. We had never cruised before and had heard a lot of stories from people before we went, mainly that the majority of cruisers were people a lot older than ourselves. This was so not true, the Epic had a fantastic range of age groups. The ship was so well kept and the staff were fantastic and catered to our every need, nothing was a bother to any crew member to help us with anything we needed. Our cabins were next to each other and they were surprisingly quite spacious. Our cabin attendant Joao was so nice and very helpful to us. Entertainment was fabulous, something for everyone. Cirque de Dreams and Burn the floor was our favourites alongside Priscilla queen of the Desert, Fabulous. We met some of the actors and dancers in the bar one night and we had a great laugh with them all They were so cool and so nice, Joe, Todd, Darrel & Rebecca just to name a few. Howl at the Moon was good fun also. We partied in Bliss nightclub every night. It was great. The restaurants on board were amazing. We ate in Tepinyakki, Manhatten & Shanghai. They were really nice. The quality of the wines and cocktails was superb. We didn't book excursions as they were quite expensive so we just did our own thing when we got to each port. The overall service on board was top class, we couldn't complain about anything, although we did witness on at least 3 different occasions our fellow American guests being Extremely Rude to staff members. This was horrible to watch and I really had to bite my tongue to stop me from intervening. I have to say thought that the staff members managed these lack of manners with dignity and great smiles. I think the staff should be Allowed to challenge this small minority of people that give American people a bad reputation (or anyone for that matter that are rude to them) because I know that they're not all rude people. Manners cost nothing. We are planning another trip with Norwegian Epic in the future and I cant recommend it high enough. Simply Amazing Trip :) Geraldine Conway Ireland Read Less

We had a great time on the Norwegian Epic. We boarded in Barcelona, where it was a bit hectic to start but we soon got through the queues and onto the ship by about 11.30am. Our room was ready by about 1.30 so plenty of time to explore the ship and get our bearings before getting into our family balcony suite. The suite was a decent size and the balcony a great addition to watch the ship arriving into port in the mornings. Marvin outer housekeeper kept the room in great shape for the week and entertained our children with an array of towel art every night. We were on the unlimited beverage package which I have to say is well worth the money and was actually included in our booking for free along with $200 credit. Lots of premium drinks included, grey goose, Jack Daniels, Tanquerey, Bombay Sapphire etc. In fact anything under $15. We bought the soda package for our kids but in all honesty they drank most of the time from the self service drinks stations on the pool deck. The garden cafe buffet was excellent. There was always way too much choice and the food always hot. We ate at the speigel tent, which was ok but the entertainment alone is worth the fee. The performers are at the top of their game and was a great evenings entertainment for the kids. We ate at the Taste restaurant and the Manhattan, which again were great and complimentary, both very similar menus. We all had an absolute ball on the ship and the kids are already asking which ship we are going on next. Me and my wife have been on two cruises in the distant past but this was our first with the kids, 14 and 9. Read Less

This was our first cruise experience -husband and wife, an active grandma (85) and 2 kids (12/16) . Having reade numerous reviews I was fully aware of the pros and cons & whilst there were a few niggles along the way, I'd still rate cruise excellent . What we loved 1. The ease of embarking/disembarking - (Barcelona ) well organised , quick and efficient . We arrived at 11.30 and before we knew it we were on the ship -less than 15 minutes with bags arriving at cabin around 3-4pm 2. Food and beverage- excellent array of restaurants - we ate in taste for lunch on embarkation day -that was a good tip I had read as buffet on 15th deck can be chaotic ! It was a great start to the holiday we chose the unlimited drinks package as part of our offer (Uk offer allowed 2 "free" added values) - great value and worth getting. In hindsight I would have also chosen( as my 2nd option ) the speciality dinner -instead chose wifi. That was a regret . the Buffet is fine and food great - but now looking back asa family we like the idea of table service more for dinner . We ate at manhatten and taste -couple of times each and they were very good indeed as was noodle bar and Chinese which was all included 3 Variety of entertainment- non stop. Great acts - Burn the Floor/Priscilla /Legends Live /howl of the Moon were all thoroughly entertaining . Very easy to book ( you can even pre book couple ) We never had any issue and thee were always spare seats) be aware people often book and don't show so stand by last minute can work) 4. Great port stops - see separate comments - again easy to get on and off- we didn't do any of the ship excursions -arranged own thing at each port . So easy to do so but I do like arranging such activities so that helps 5. Iconcierge app- very useful indeed-shows all the daily activities updates you on any additional spend on your account -which was brilliant ad really useful. ( we paid extra for the basic wifi which allowed us all to keep in touch with one an-it's $9.99 and allows you to message and call each other via ships wifi when on ship. Very useful ) What we liked 1.Cabins- see full review below we had 2 balcony(2 people in each) and one studio 2 Service overall was pretty good - this is where I had few niggles but overall pretty happy considering the size of ship and the vast number 3 Teen club - 16 year old was very happy with the entourage club. (12 year old wasn't as keen as she wanted to be with older kids rather than being with kids from 6-12) What was a pain (but didn't spoil holiday!) just a few niggles: 1 Elevators are slow . Be prepared to wait or walk ! We generally did the latter -no bad thing to be honest as with all the food and drink we consumed we needed to ! 2. Be patient ! At times service at bar can be little slow.. no big deal but just found that the bar staff weren't always the happiest and found a few of them little unfriendly ..appreciate they were very busy but it did jar me few times .. also if you are on all of inclusive drinks package you have to show each individual card when buying drinks - can't buy against one card (apparently due to fact that many people were taking too much of an advantage and getting free drinks for people who hadn't bought the package .) 3. Be prepared -this is a family orientated ship -some families seem to think it's acceptable to allow their young kids to sit in the middle of restaurants on the floor playing whilst you are trying to eat! Wish the staff were little firmer at times ! 4. It can also get busy especially cruise days so if you don't like the loud party feel then there are plenty of quiet areas - including adults only pool- you just need to be adaptable In summary ship has something for everyone - and our family had a brilliant time - great Value and we are already planning we're next for 2018! Overall a great experience, best of all was the Epic Beatles, and all the entertainment onboard. Make sure you do not miss the shows. The only con about the vessel I found is that I had to change my dining habits or I'd miss the entertainment onboard. Cabin was wonderful, for us the bathroom worked great, there is no lack of intimacy and 2 or more people can use it at the same time as the sink, the WC and the shower are separated. The bed was very confortable but kind of short. I loved the iTV all over the ship where you are able to make reservations or see what is happening onboard. Best pool area is H2O, quiet and confortable, just for adults. I'm a smoker and smoking areas are good placed, the humidor is a confortable room, great place to relax or have a conversation with other travelers, you'lll end up knowing most of the smokers onboard! Crew was very good and friendly. I'd go again on this ship withouth any doubt. For the ports off call I did not like that when in Livorno you cannot walk to the city, you have to take the shuttle and is 5 euro per person. Read Less

We chose this cruise because it was an easy way to travel around Europe and not have to pack/unpack, etc. We saw A LOT! We spent 5 days in Rome first, then boarded the ship there (you can board in either Rome OR Barcelona). We arrived at 11:30am and walked right on the ship! No lines at all!! Our room was ready, and had a mini suite on Deck 11. Mid ship.. Great room... Love the layout, etc.. The next day it was a little rough, so we were not able to pull into Florence. That was fine, for we were all exhausted from Rome for 5 days! The only problem with doing Europe on this ship is that you don't really get a lot of time on the ship because of wanting to see all the ports. We then stopped in Cannes (be sure to book your tender when you get onboard). We hired a private tour to take us to Eze, Monte Carlo, and Cannes, and this was great!! The next day was Mallorca, and we did the cruise excursion on the train to Soller, and that was also great.. We then went to Barcelona, and booked the "skip line" tour at the Sagrada, which I would recommend! We then walked around La Rambla and ate at a great spot off the beaten path for Paella and Sangria. The next day is a sea day, which was GREAT! Then, final day we had a private driver to Sorrento, Positano and Amalfi, which was awesome! Be sure to see the dueling pianos! They were FABULOUS! We also got the drink package which was great (included grey goose martinis, and most all drinks)! The ship is EXTREMELY well laid out for a VERY large ship. Lots of smaller dining, and entertainment, so you never feel like you are in a big crowd! I was surprised at how I never had to wait in line.. Would highly recommend this trip! Great stops.. we had 2 families (4 adults and 4 kids ages 19-21). The kids would say it was fun too, not the same feel as probably a carnival cruise in the Caribbean. They did meet people their age. As usual, too much to do, and not enough time to do it all... food was excellent... I have cruised before on Disney, Royal Caribbean- Explorer of the Seas, and Norwegian Wind (years ago, ship not there anymore). All of these lines are great, and I do like the freestyle cruising. Not as stressed to rush back and get dressed. Overall a great trip! Read Less

Have cruised on the Epic many times. An interestng itinerary with good ports of call. 6 in total with 1 sea day.The main reason we cruise on this ship is because the SIGLO band is on board. 4 x Filipino guys, all super talented. Can play any type of music, ballads rock and pop, whatever you want. They play in the Cavern Club each night and really rock the place.Althugh I have heard good reviews about Priscilla Queen of the Desert, Howl at the Moon and Burn the Floor, Siglo are the band to see, we go to the Cavern every night and would not go anywhere else. As regards cruise value my husband and I personally do not like the premium all inclusive package that NCL have just imposed on Brits and Europeans but unfortuanately no option when you book, regardless of who you book with. The prem all incl means that tips are included at $13.50 a day each. We never used to pay these as we always take US dollars with us and tip who we want throughout the cruise. Also as part of the deal each member of your party gets 2 x 1 litre bottle of water per day so for 2 of you on a 7 day trip you get 14 litres of water. You are no longer allowed to bring your own bottled water or soft drinks purchased ashore on board. The daft thing is you could take some of this water from NCL ashore with you at each port but on returning to the ship you have to ditch it if you havent drunk it all. As stated we accept the prem all inclusive as no other option and keep coming back on the Epic only because of Siglo. If they were moved to another NCL ship we would cruise on that one. As regards cabins we used to book balconies but now because of price we book inside. We always book a guarantee inside and are usually allocated a cabin on deck 10. No problem with cabin athough we prefer toilet, shower and basin to be together not separate. However it is only the Epic that is like this, other NCL ships have the usual separate room. Inside cabins a good size, plenty of room, we find balcony cabins a bit cramped especially as we have the beds split into 2 singles. Not much room between the bottom of the bed and the table area etc. One of the best value restaurants on board is the Modereno with a cover charge of $24.99 each but is worth it. Variety of starters- help yourself and all types of meat and chicken served to you until you say no. Also a good selection of desserts. Food is well presented and hot. We mainly dined in the Garden cafe each day which offers a good selection of food, To stop your food going cold whlst you go to the different food stations and before you get back to your table, cover your plate with another plate. I know this sounds simple but it really works and keeps your food hot. O Sheenans bar is also good for food, good selection and food served hot. No problems with any of the crew on board, always found them helpful and polite. Did not use spa or fitness suite. Read Less

We flew into Barcelona, Spain (the departure point for our cruise) one day prior to departure. I would recommend this, as it gave us a chance to get acclimated to the time change and rest up from our long flight. Checking in to the ship and embarking was easy and flawless. The line was long, but moved along quickly. A souvenir photo was taken and then we went on board. The first impression of our aft facing balcony cabin (#9294) was 'wow', this is going to be great! This was our first cruise ever, and the Norwegian Epic was truly...Epic! The food, the staff, the stateroom...everything was awesome! Everyone was very friendly and always asked how everything was going. We will absolutely be back for another Norwegian cruise in the future. After returning from long days of shore excursions, we were greeted by the Norwegian staff passing out cold wet towels and refreshments. There was even some music and dancing upon our return. We chose to 'self disembark' and although we were sad to leave the ship, there were plenty of taxi cabs waiting to transport the guests to their next destination. This was our first cruise experience, but it will not be our last! We're already talking about another 'Epic' cruise from their winter port in Cape Canaveral, FL - just a couple of hours North of our home. We highly recommend Norwegian, as we had a great experience! We chose this cruise as it started in Barcelona (so under two hours flight time from the UK) We really wanted to visit the historic sites of Pompeii via Naples, Pisa, Rome, the Old Market in Antibes in Cannes and the mountain village of Soller in Majorca. We hoped that being in the Med the sea would be calm and it would be lovely and warm in late May (which it was). The views from your balcony and deck were breathtaking and the sea was so calm, you would never know that you were on a ship. I just loved the fact that each night you go to sleep and wake up in another city or country! We did loads of excursions which were so well organised, but not 'over organised' and really enjoyed them all. They are expensive if you book via the ship, but being our first cruise, we did not have the confidence to do it independently. The ship is HUGE, which was good as just seemed to absorb the thousands of passengers with ease - it never felt too busy except on some occasions in the main 'garden cafe' buffet (but don't worry as there are so many other places to eat - you can always avoid the crowds). Do try the speciality restaurants like Moderna, Cagneys and Japanese (did not think the food was as good in Japanese, but entertainment value was great). Make sure you see the shows - we saw 'Burn the Floor' and a 'Beatles' tribute band. They were first rate and got standing ovations. Cannot praise the staff enough, they work so hard and are so friendly and polite and really try to make your stay as good as it can be. Everywhere was spotlessly clean. Gym is fantastic (WOW what views). Try the crepes in the evening on deck (I loved the Nutella ones). Beds are really comfortable & loads of space for clothes etc. We all loved the cruise. Read Less
