The only good thing about Norwegian were the excursions, which you can get through other cruises too. Most of my interactions with staff were unhelpful at best and downright rude at worst. There seems to be a very prevalent "not my job" mentality where staff will go out of their way to avoid helping you or answering your questions. The rare few crew members who are actually pleasant are overworked to the point you'll only see them once or twice on your trip. The rooms are tiny and cramped, and if you're tall forget about taking a decent shower. Rooms are services at least 3 times a day, which can be overwhelming and inconvenient when you're trying to relax or rest up after an excursion. It's also a huge inconvenience to have to use a room key in order to use the lights. The shows on the ship are fantastic, I will give them that. If you're unfortunate enough to be on a Norwegian cruise make sure to check those out! Other than the shows though there isn't much to do on the ship except eat and go to the casino. Save your money, cruise elsewhere. Read Less

We choose this cruise because we had taken the Alaskan cruise on the Norwegian Pearl and had a wonderful time. The cruise was not worth the money we had to pay. First there were problems with the ship which delayed us 6 hours. There were college students everywhere. We had to stand in long lines to get a drink. Loud partying all night in the halls and on the balconies. Forget getting a specialty dinner at a decent hour unless you want to eat at 9-10 pm at night. Had to wait in long lines for regular dining. Forget getting a sun cot on the pool deck. I saw a line of 6 to 7 cots open and asked the young lady if they were free. No, of course not. She was saving them all for her friends. Finally we decided to stay in our room most of the time instead of fighting the crowds. Also had to skip Stirrup Cay because of rough sea. So out of the 7 days we were at sea 5 of them. Not a good time at all!!! Read Less

Embarkation was smooth. Unfortunately several groups of college students on Spring Break basically took over. They were rude and immature. The crew seemed to be very short staffed. I had a waitress in the Manhattan Room flat out decline to bring me a soda because it was going to take too long. This was after our drinks didn’t arrive until after our meal. I also had 2 days where we didn’t see a server at the pool until after 3PM. I had a server at the pool decline to bring my friend a Mudslide because that drink takes too long to make. I was obviously less than impressed. The casino staff was not friendly, and they seemed to be poorly trained. The ship is fine. The entertainment is amazing. I recommend howl at the moon and the other entertainment. But I would be aware of the times where students may be on board, and maybe check the staffing levels on board. Read Less

A group of us that are Super fans from NFL teams chose to cruise to the Bahamas, Over all the experience was not great. Food was decent, but service was slow or non existent. Ship was clean but the crew did not seem friendly and seemed disinterested, They did not make you feel welcome. This did not include everyone, just the majority. We did find some that seemed to have fun and made you feel special. Our steward never seemed to materialize but the room was clean and presentable. This was just a very disappointing cruise. Food was as I said decent, Osheehans was our favorite. The buffet was goos as well and the Shanghai Noodle Bar was also one of our favorites. Debarkation was horrendous. No organization and there was major chaos. At this time I would not recommend Norwegian Cruise Lines and our plan is we will not be cruising with them again. I have been on 2 Carnival Ships, 1 Princess and 1 Royal Caribbean, All of those I would recommend. Read Less

My elderly parents convinced the family to take a one last holiday together as they are convinced this will be their last. They had a good history with Norwegian so it was the 'go to' company. We booked 7 passages looking forward to seeing exotic places like Jamaica, Cayman Islands and Cozumel. We arrived in Port Canaveral several days in advance and the day before the cruise was supposed to leave, we got a message from NCL informing us our 7 day cruise was now a 5 day cruise going to Bahamas and their private Island. It was also boarding on Sunday as opposed to Saturday They were very sorry and were allowing us to cancel or take 50% off the cost of the cruise. So picture this..... 4000 cruise passengers scrabbling at the last minute to find accommodations and in many cases a rental car. Oh yeah, the Daytona 500 was on that weekend as well. Bedlam. We decided that we had spent considerable time and effort to get their so we would make the best of it. Should have cancelled. I have good and bad things to say about the ship itself: The good: Rooms were very well laid out. The waiters and cleaning staff were fast, efficient and friendly. The chicken fingers were excellent Liked the ice cream machines The Circ show was very entertaining although the Ariel portion was cancelled The bad: Freestyle cruising should be called 'Free for All cruising'. If you want shows or premium dining, better book the second you get on the ship. We spent more time organizing and getting organized than doing anything. The food was just OK. The buffet got boring after about day 3. Lots or technical difficulties, pools not full, toilets backing up, Spice H2O big screen missing a bunch of pixels. These sound minor but my perception is NCL has cut back on their ship maintenance which could have been a contributing factor to the previous cruises engine failure. There's more but I have probably said enough. All in a very disappointing experience, and to boot, the whole family is still getting over the nasty cold we caught on the cruise. A poor last trip for Mom and Dad. Read Less

Ship with engine problems prior cruise . in stead of wanted cruise we went to Nassau and Great Stir up Bay Bahama. Boarded Sunday not Saturday and sat in port until Monday after 4 pm,. Drinks all had Florida tax as in port. Notified Friday night of change and impossible to get through to Norwegian number. Guest Services assured us the cruise line would reverse $250 for hotel and expense. After cruise NCL said guest services gave incorrect information, NCL should stand behind statements made by Norwegian guest services. Pools crowded and pool bar served those most obnoxious first and polite persons waited forever. Only ate in dining room once as we both had illness after, Never ate at buffet. Comedy shows and nightly entertainment was very good. Walking track was a joke . Follow up after cruise that was less than satisfactory was non-existent. Read Less

I was on the Epic Fail cruise of 2019. This cruise was best with problems that I mostly, luckily, avoided. I got to the terminal early and was checked in and seated in about 20 minutes total, very efficient. I was also among the first hundred regular people on the ship. Here is where the problems started. There was a "computer glitch" which inconvenienced me in that the servers were slower because they had to write everything down. What I didn't know was that this glitch was keeping people from boarding the ship. Huge crowds waiting in the terminal for about two hours, dodged that bullet. A little about me, I am 50 year old male traveling solo with an group of disc golfers. I have taken about twenty cruises now, mostly on NCL. I love cruising and try to cruise twice a year. I ate in the specialty restaurants almost the whole week, I never went to the buffet. As a solo I tested the freestyle concept and was pleased with the results. I purposely didn't make reservations and was still seated in Moderno inside ten minutes! The food as always was fantastic, and I choose new entrees from what I usually do to expand my pallet and was very pleased. Back to the ship, so day two we lost motor power and sat in the ocean for a couple hours. Then we slowly limped into port and crashed into the pier. My friends and I made lemonade out of the situation and went to a beach resort had beers and played putting games. Even before we left port I knew we were not making the private island, distance divided by speed means nope, so when they announced we were getting in to PC late I was laughing. Finally there was the fiasco with the arrival time. Originally told it was going to be eightish everyone scrambled to change flight plans, the next day we find out it is more like three-ish when we get in and everyone scrambles again. I drove so I didn't have to deal with that, but the level of negativity on the ship rose to astounding heights. There is a reason the ship docks at 5am, having people camped out in all the public areas waiting to get off and getting angrier all the time is probably one of the bigger reasons. I saw a woman forcing people to look at her kittens and puppies to keep them from getting angrier. Overall my worst cruise hands down, communication from the bridge was inexact and only occasional. I never saw the Cruise Director once after the first mechanical. The comedians were eating it up and hilarious but it really wasn't that funny. Finally Epic is not the ship to be stuck on, with its small outside areas and persistent smoke smell inside I was more than ready to get off the ship and that has never happened before. Read Less

I took this cruise to relax and be taken care of for a few days. It's been a very stressful 3 years since I had been able to cruise due to family matters. I've been on several lines over the years (Carnival, Costa, HAL and Princess). I found a last-minute deal on Epic. I booked it at 1pm the day before it sailed, knowing nothing about NCL (except I always thought their ships were ugly when I saw them in port). So I made a leap of faith and at 5am the next morning super shuttle picked me up for my flight to Orlando. Uneventful flight, got a transfers to the ship from Contrans Shuttle (I recommend them). Arrived at Port Canaveral about 12:30pm. It was a total mob scene. If you are familiar with the terminal, the line wound around outside the terminal - back and forth THREE times from the luggage drop-off clear to the other end of the terminal building. Apparently it was a surprise EPIC was there. Once I got inside I noticed two of the 4 metal detectors were not in use and eight of the 38 check in stations were not staffed. Why? Just my opinion but when you have 4000+ people boarding it should be all-hands-on-deck. Time to board the ship: Over two hours. My cabin was ready, so I went there. It was filthy dirty. Smears on the headboard, cabinets, etc. Too much leftover DNA from the previous guest. I even had the executive housekeeper come to the cabin. When I asked for some cleaning products I was told no. All the food on-board was fine to good. The only thing that stands out in my memory is the perfectly ripe fruit. I dined in the MDR and buffet (no specialty). The only thing I took one bit of and set aside was the pizza. I'm a picky eater and "foodie" but I adjust my expectations accordingly. Service was good to very good (except for the host in the MDR, noted below). The rest of my review, will be a simple cut-and-paste from the survey with names redacted. I'm done with NCL, so that's all I want to do. If someone is placed in a disabled cabin, there needs to be printed instructions for the door. Nobody knew how it worked, initially. My cabin (12270)was dirty; fingerprints, smears on the headboard and cabinets, mystery goo on the door handles. I asked a manager named S***** for cleaning product so I could clean the cabin to my standards. He said "no". Then he told me I could not have a piece of paper to make reminder note for the door. The first night there were no coffee packets for the coffee maker. Housekeeping did not deliver any when I called. The next morning about 4am I called 00 to see where my coffee packets were. I was told my only options were to pay room service $7.95 or go get the coffee myself. Wrong answer. FYI - the right answer would have been "we'll send some right up, no charge". Then there's S***** in the Manhattan room who would not give me a pager when there was a wait. Telling customers "NO" seems to be a theme on NCL. Now for the good. Marco, cabin steward, did an excellent job. Wouter, guest services, was very helpful. Valeria, Locksley and all the staff in the Manhattan and Taste dining rooms did a great job. This was my first - and last cruise on NCL. Read Less

We were looking forward to another cruise with NCL, since our experience on the Pearl was good. This was awful! *The embarkation was a fiasco, with the problem being more Port Canaveral's. It was a cold morning, and they had to stop allowing people up the escalator to the indoor waiting area. Fights were taking place, and security had to be called. Most were cold, hungry, tired and confused, since there was no communication from anyone. This became a constant theme throughout the cruise! But at no time did anyone from NCL apologize for it and take some responsibility. When you were finally on board it was as if nothing had happened. *Pools are a real joke!!! 3 of them, with one being in the quiet area. Very small, more of a stand-up pool. If any more than 4 people were in it, it became overcrowded. The main pool area was the only pool space with shade, but the stupid music was so loud you couldn't talk to each other. Ridiculous! Even after request to turn the music down, nothing! *Waiting for an elevator became a game. No matter which was it goes, climb on because you may never see another one! Too many scooters!!!!!! * To see any show, you had to wait in line for an hour, then seats were gone quickly. I have never had that experience on any other cruise. Venues are way too small for that size of a ship with that many passengers. *Front desk was somewhat rude. I asked a young lady where the library was (mapped showed it very close to their desk). The girl grabbed my map and sent me to the back of the ship. I came back and told her it should be near where we were. She simply repeated her orders. It was across the hall and behind a door! *Layout of this ship is terrible. Hard to maneuver around anywhere comfortably. *Talent on board, except for a few, was pretty bad. Howl at the Moon singers were not singers! * Onboard activities: Napkin folding! Just Dance! *Movies selected were unbelievable! Overboard, Adrift and Showdogs?! Really! Who picked this garbage? (Andre'?) One good day they showed "It's A Wonderful Life" and it was standing room only! *It was Christmas. Why not organize an evening of caroling, or show more holiday related movies? Other than decorations, it was never mentioned or celebrated. Very disappointing. *That leaves us with debarkation. We were herded onto the 6th floor, with no announcement from anyone, just rumors, to try and organize a line, which went from the front to the back of the ship. There was 1 person from staff I saw and she was yelling at someone who was trying to take the escalator to 5! Apparently, some big wigs from corporate were suppose to be there for our leaving, but never saw a single person!!!! No, wait...there were two lovely ladies waving goodbye and thanking us...Washy Washy Girls!!!! That was it. No thanks for spending your time, your money and your sanity with us. They could have cared less. We will never cruise NCL again! Read Less

We have been on multiple cruise lines and wanted to try Norwegian. The room was a balcony stateroom that was small for my 6' 7" frame. The bed was too short for me to lay on. The staff had to pull the top mattress out and stuff pillows and covers in the space for my head to rest on. This made crossing the cabin difficult. The separate toilet and shower were difficult to use and I injured myself using the shower. The food quality was not as good as other cruise lines. The food choices in the buffet was limited. The wait staff in the dinning rooms were inattentive but completed their tasks. The loud speaker announcements were difficult to understand because the speaker spoke the words quickly. We had to wait longer than expected before embarkation even started. We tried to carry our luggage off the ship to save time and were held up by the disembarkation logistics. Read Less

We chose this cruise because it departed from Port Canaveral, a smaller port than Miami, but as we have now found out one that is not capable of handling large crowds. We waited outside for 2-3 hours in bad windy weather, with verbal and physical fights to the point the sheriff's officer had to be called. The ship seemed unprepared for its guests, the casino had most its machines down the first two days, there was no band on board, the singer in the theatre had to sing to tapes, and the trio's on board were spread thin. The food was sub-par with very little variety, the same desserts over and over. Once the buffet snack in the casino was peanut butter and jelly sandwiches!! REALLY!!??? The ship in general lacked a happy vibe which I guess is the fault of the cruise director. The cruise ended the way is started, long lines to get on and long lines to get off!! Read Less

The staff and room stewart were excellant. Food was very good and dining staff were freindly. This was a 4300 passenger ship and we prefer the 2400 size of ship as this one was too crowded. Long waits for the elevator. Theatre seated 800 passenagers same size as on the smaller ships. Did not like the crowded pool area on the upper deck- too crowded not eneough lounge chairs. The enteratinemnt was for the most part was mjust OK. We have experienced better entertainment on the smaller ships in the past. Music was not very good or the entertainment. They was no activity around the pool not like the other ships I have been on. It has a comedy club but it was not a comedy club. I should say may 2 nights what ever they had was funny, no comedian. The excursions. You would do better to do it on your on. 1 hour here and maybe 30 minutes there. You do realize that your tour guide gets a commission where ever he takes you, right? Oh, paid for transportation from airport to the boat. The guide just takes off and says follow. Well we got lost. I have cruised with NCL for my past 3 cruises and always had a great experience. So this year we wanted to stay with NCL and go with EPIC. It was 13 of us traveling together. I had invited my friends and their family and my in-law and his family. Needless to say, I was very upset with the cruise. One, the employees, bartenders, guest service people acted as if I were a bother when looking for assistance. We going to the different bars, no one was friendly at all. Didn't care to engage in conversation or nothing. Made my drink and just left it there, took my card, swipe and no thank you or nothing. The lack of entertainment was bad. When cruising you expect to hear music playing you know picture much throughout the ship. My brother-in-law actually brought out his portable speaker and played music and we had a few guest walked by and danced a little. The food was not the greatest. I know you can't expect a 10 from everything but I would expect at least average on most of the stuff. I will say the only place besides going out to the ports that I enjoyed was The Martini Bar. The bartender there was the only nice bartender on the ship. I am in the processing of looking for a cruise for next year and was hoping to stay with NCL but I think its time to go back to Royal Caribbean or try Carnival. Oh I almost forgot, the setup of the room, I am not sure about the curvature thing but its a bad idea. I don't understand why the extra bed is not by the sliding glass. I takes away a lot of space in the already small mini suite. The bed even had a curve. You have a lot of drawer space for no reason. Read Less

We thought we would try NCL, we have cruised before but not on NCL. Our group found a cruise that would fit our timetable and also with the beverage option that suited us. Getting on board was easy and the cabin was clean and ready when promised. I was very disappointed in the beverage wait staff and bartenders. It seemed that once they knew we had the beverage package we seemed to be ignored, I tried for over an hour to get the attention of a waiter, I went to the bar myself and stood in line for 45 minutes and while the progressed people sitting at the bar got served 3 times during this time period. Once I got to the front of the line, I got the bartender attention a couple of times and started to give my order and he served other people. After the third time of being ignored, I gave up. Going to dinner was very eventful also, I did not see that I needed to make dinner reservations at any complimentary restaurant or dress code at a couple until I went back and reread the Freestyle Daily, in small print I found it.. I did find out the people were making reservations back in January for this cruise in March. A little heads up for us first time cruisers sure would have helped. This cruise has put a bad taste, I doubt if we will cruise with NCL again. Read Less

The service on this cruise was awful due to lack of experienced staff pitched in to a spring break environment. It was the same on the private island cruise stop in fact it was even worse. The customer service were not interested and seemed to be resigned to this. The food was continuously served up cold and you literally had to fight your way in to the bars to get a drink and then attract the attention of one of the bar staff if you could at all. I would have thought NCL knowing the timing would have compensated by increasing their staff numbers. We hand drinks packages to which they added service charges prior to departure which is a cheek when the service is as poor as this. We also had specialist restaurants package which we could not access because they had been fully booked before we got on the ship again I assume with service charges added to the cruise account. This was most annoying since it was the major reason for booking this cruise. The prices on board were extortio so beware if you sail without the packages. This is the second time we have been on this ship and our first experience was similar. In conclusion not the best cruise we have been on by far. Read Less

We went on the Norwegian Epic in March 2018, and it really wasn't great, not even sure if I would rate it good. It is one of the bigger ships in the fleet, and it was clean and well-maintained. My biggest issue was the lack of service and staff throughout the entire cruise. We apparently made the mistake of sailing during part of the spring break times, and the service was terrible. The ship was close, if not at capacity, and there did not appear to be adequate staff to deal with the numbers. The line is marketing "Free at Sea" which includes a drink package. The ship/line knows how many people sign up for the package, but don't staff for it. For the entire cruise, it took a minimum of 20 minutes to get an alcoholic beverage no matter where we went. All the bars (pool-side, clubs, and entertainment) always had at least 5-6 people deep waiting for a bartender to wait on them. At each restaurant, it took over 20 minutes to get alcoholic beverages. At Great Stirrup Cay, they let 3,000+ people off the boat and were serviced by two bars (total) and four bartenders. For the entire day, there was a 30 minute line. And there were very few roaming bartenders working the various areas. For the "adult only" pool at the back of the boat, they had one server waiting on over 100 people and taking drink orders. It was pitiful. I have never had such poor service consistently for 4 days. I don't understand why there wasn't sufficient staff for the amount of people. The previous cruises we've gone on had about half of the passenger capacity as the Epic, but I feel like they had more staff available than the Epic. Over and over, the only way to get a server or bartender to wait on you was to literally flash cash. If there was not money in hand during the ordering, they would not even wait on you. You pay for Free at Sea and for the gratuities, and a service charge for each day of the drink package, but can't be waited on without tipping up front. I am happy to tip, but it shouldn't be a prerequisite to getting service. While at O'Sheehans, we had been sitting for some time and unable to get anyone to stop at the table. I held a $20 bill in the air and, no joke, in less than 15 seconds, a waiter appeared at my elbow. It was like watching a B-movie comedy, but it actually happened in real life. And then on to the food. Other than our dinner at Cagney's, I am not sure I ate a single meal that was above room-temperature. The main buffet seemed to leave food out indefinitely hoping for it to move, regardless of how cold it had gotten. We also tried the upgraded dining, and that food was cold too. All of the entertainment activities were always packed to capacity and more. We tried each night to get into Howl at the Moon, and it was standing room only. We tried the British Invasion pub, standing room only. It seemed like everywhere we went there was another line or another long wait for something that should be simple and quick. They crammed more people into the ship, but didn't seem to care if they could be accommodated. And the cabins. How small can they be? We got a balcony because they tend to be a little bigger, but there was only a minimal amount of walking space. The Couch, which was used to hold our suitcases, seems to take up half the room and is never used since the television is lined up with the bed. What is the couch for...to look at the closet? Or the sink? Maybe the toilet and shower that aren't separated from the rest of the suite? I won't be sailing on Norwegian again. They aren't the cheapest, and they definitely are NOT the best. They need to work harder on the service part if they want to cram 4000+ people onto a boat. Read Less

The layout of the common areas of the ship were nice. However, the layout of the inside state cabin was good. I was sharing a room with a girlfriend and I did not believe the bathroom stall or the shower stall offered enough privacy and it was inconvenient to pull the curtain every time we used the restroom. The only sink being in the common area of the bedroom did not provide much privacy. The lines from beginning to end were long and consumed a lot of time that could have otherwise been spend enjoying. There were so many teens at the bars doing double fisted drinking and shots while my friend and I tried to push through just to wait to even be noticed in all the chaos. I have a tradition of enjoying a nice glass of champagne every evening and most evenings I did not even get one because it was too much of a hassle. The entertainment was definitely a bright spot on the cruise. We were very pleased with the evening entertainment and really appreciated the 80's dance party so that we could enjoy music we were actually familiar with instead of the disco techno stuff. Another highlight was the cabin service. The gentleman who maintained our cabin did a great job and even left towel animals which my roommate requested (she is a big kid at heart.) I would like to think this experience was a one time disappointment but I am honestly do not think I would pay for another Norwegian Cruise to find out. I have been on Disney, Royal, Celebrity and Carnival multiple times each but this was my first and probably only Norwegian experience. Chose the cruise because of departure and ports of call. The entertainment was 1st class as was the service. Line ups at the dining rooms were long and when you got a table the first thing you noticed were all the empty tables around you. It seemed that there was not enough staff to bus the tables as people left. The food was great as was the service once you had a table. A reservation was needed for everything right down to the tenders, not exactly my idea of freestyle.lines were long for everything.the room was poorly laid out and way too small. Even though smoking was prohibited on balcony, this didn't seem to apply to my neighours and continued even after my complaint to guest services.at 5his point the money spent on the balcony($1,000.00) was completely wasted.had a very unpleasant encounter with a member of the security staff over 2 small bottles diet coke which after a few rude comments he grabbed from my hand and threw into the trash. I didn't feel that this was a suitable way to treat my personal property. If it had been rum they would have held it and returned it at the end of the trip. His supervisor didn't seem to have a problem with his attitude or his actions.next time we will return to princess. Read Less

We choose cruises based upon itineraries. The opportunity to visit Chichen Itza was the determining factor for this particular line and trip. Our Mid-ship Balcony cabin was nothing at all like the pictures they show, it was cramped and poorly designed. When you opened the door you walked into the bed and the 6" of space between the bed and the counter made it virtually impossible to move around the room easily. We spent more time crawling over the bed than sleeping in it it seemed. Our cabin steward would only allow us 2 bath towels per day, and it was our responsibility to exchange our beach towels from our excursions according to him. It wasn't until we spoke to the Housekeeping manager that we could get extra towels and he started to do his job. It would take multiple requests to get our cabin refreshed after returning from excursions and changing for dinner, and turn down service was only performed the last 2 nights of a 7 night cruise. The wait staff in the Main Dining rooms were slow and uninterested in making your dining experience something to look forward to. If you would like a glass of wine or other adult beverage with your meal you had better order it immediately when they bring you your water or don't expect it until you are almost finished with your entree. NCL recently did away with tipping in favor of an automatic service charge added to your invoice daily. It appears that in so doing, they have also done away with any expectation of service from their employees and they have become disincentivized. We have never been on any cruise ship before where we were treated as an afterthought by the staff. DO NOT expect anything but mediocre to poor service from these employees. The bar and lounge staff do go beyond expectations, as do the spa and buffet workers. but the taste of bad service from the cabin stewards and wait staff spoil any thoughts of a first class operation. We were looking forward to our first NCL cruise for a year and can say (among many others we encountered who echoed the same sentiment) that we will not be returning. The Norwegian Epic had it's bright spots, but overall we were more disappointed than anything. Lets start with the ship itself. Embarkation was typical. A few delays, but the ship holds thousands of passengers so some waiting is to be expected. Once on the ship, catching an elevator is almost as difficult as hitting the lottery. NCL really needs to increase the production on these things. If you're looking for a vacation where you never close your wallet, well you've found it. NCL charges for so many things. Most shows, some seminars, games, bowling, any offered classes - it's all extra. This is in addition to the restaurants, which some are not only an initial fee, but the menu is also a la carte. The Garden Café (buffet) seating is ample, but the food was often cold and average. O'Sheehans turned out to be our favorite spot. The drink prices and drinks themselves throughout the bars were highly inconsistent - we got the same drink for 2 different prices and two completely different tastes within half an hour one day - one $3+ more than the other. You're charged $17+ for a 6 pack of water, which the crew then confiscates from you upon returning from certain ports. Totally logical. You're required to have a ticket for even the complimentary shows, and making reservations for tendered ports is definitely encouraged. NCL's highly touted 'Freestyle Cruising' is actually quite regimented and limiting due to this setup. The pools are very small and narrow, deck chairs were consistently reserved with towels beginning very early in the morning, and the crew stacked them up relatively early in the evening. The shops, art gallery, and sundries shops have all the typical cruise items. The ship overall was HOT everywhere other than the 5th floor. Our stewards were very friendly, fast, and attentive. They kept the cabins very nice. We went to the Svendka Ice Bar which is open in the evenings with reservation, costs $23+ (entry fee and 2 drinks included), but is definitely fun to see. There's things to do on the ship, but at the same time, there's not really a lot going on. NCL really just counts on spending money at the bars and specialty restaurants as your entertainment. Let's talk about ports. Our first port was NCL's private island, Great Stirrup Cay in the Bahamas. The beach was nice enough, but it's really the only thing to do, which is great if you're looking forward to a beach chair and swimming all day. There is a small straw market which takes about 15 minutes to see the entire area, and a complimentary bbq or taco lunch. Past that, you have to pay for anything else. This is a tendered port, so be sure to get in line on time. Guests of The Haven are also given preference over the rest of us cruisers and taken to the front of the line regardless of how long others have waited. Our 2nd port was Ocho Rios, Jamaica. Corporate NCL seriously needs to walk thru and see the condition of this port. We docked at a pier which appeared to be an old dilapidated freight port. We then had to walk a good 20 minutes down a mountain on a crumbling sidewalk full of holes, trash, beggars, congested with speeding drivers, locals handing you 'gifts' and then demanding money, locals attempting to take you for a ride/tour, physically grabbing and holding onto your arms and hands, and offering/attempting to sell all types of drugs and stuffing small bags of them into the peoples pockets who made the mistake of buying whatever the individual was selling. The word 'No' is totally disregarded by the residents. Once you finally reach the town, you find a downtown that is filthy, crowded, more narrow sidewalks, stores full of cheap trinkets, and locals who stand out front and harass you to buy something. To top it all off, Jamaica was under a State of Emergency and Travel Advisory during our trip due to crime, which NCL conveniently forgot to mention. We turned back within an hour. 90% of our ship was also returning due to the same thoughts about Ocho Rios so at least we could travel in more of a pack for safety. NCL needs to remove this stop from their itinerary immediately. It is not somewhere visitors need to be. 3rd port was George Town, Grand Cayman. No complaints. A very nice port town, ample shopping, nobody bothering you, clean, beautiful water, and lots to do in addition to shore excursions. You're on a tender here also, so arrive in ample time. 4th port was Cozumel, Mexico. Cozumel's water was clear in spots. We docked at 1 of the 2 piers and the better shopping seemed to be to our south, we just chose not to take a taxi. The shops were clean, but not much variety. More locals bothering you to come into their stores and the agent prior to getting back onto the ship snatched a fellow passengers money out of her passport when checking ID's, attempted to hide it, then claimed it was a joke, but this port was still a monumental improvement from Ocho Rios. Onto our mini suite cabin. The Epic's staterooms have a 'Wave' design and it just doesn't work in all the rooms. The beds were at the front of this room and were practically in the bathroom area. You could lean over and wash your hands in the sink. The beds can't be separated further than 6 inches because they are locked in a curve, the bathroom and shower are across from one another on either side of the room and the sink is outside of the bathroom area. The shower and toilet are separated from the rest of the cabin by a curtain with the sink and mirror outside of the curtain. The bathroom is small, beyond small. We had 3 cabins - all in one day! Our first cabin the air conditioning barely cooled, but the main problem was the cabin flooded in the very early morning hours due to something going wrong in the wall from the neighboring cabin's plumbing. We had a temporary cabin in the afternoon which was a regular balcony cabin. Due to the wave setup, this room was very small - spring for the mini suite. We were then moved late that night to another mini suite where the air worked and the beds were at the end of the wave by the balcony doors, which was WAY more efficient. And this room didn't flood! The Head Guest services manager did rectify the entire bad situation which we were satisfied with. The room itself is decorated in warm tones with mahogany and plentiful storage, the balcony is larger than most ships, so the appearance is nice, just not so much the aesthetics. We wanted to love this ship and this line. Unfortunately, NCL misses the mark and they're not worth spending the money on. At least the Epic sure isn't. They're trying to be luxurious, but have yet to master simplicity. First cruise with NCL, last cruise with NCL. Epic fail. Read Less

My wife and I love NCL, with that said our experience on the Epic left us disappointed. We would not go on the Epic again nor would we recommend it. Not enough space for seating during meal times, not sure what they were thinking when designing the ship. Even the main dinning area you must have reservations or wait long periods to get in. The show's you need to have reservations, we have never experienced this with any other cruise we have taken, even with other cruise lines. To get a tender we waited 1 3/4 hour. This appeared to be poor management, only saw two tenders used. On the return to the ship they had 5 tenders, they had many upset people complaining, probably why they bumped up the tenders for the return. No privacy in the restroom area. It was clear to us that the ship size is more about making money than customer service. We will certainly do NCL again, but we will stay to the smaller ships. Read Less

I We live near Port Canaveral and decided to try Norwegian as we have never been on one of their ships. The boarding process took no more time than the Oasis ofthr Seas that we had taken last year but there the similarities ended. Our cabin, inside, was quite small. We usually book and oceanview but the incentives to take an inside cabin far outweighed those offered for an oceanview so I figured it would be Ok for a week. Everything was in the room! The toilet, the shower and the tiny sink. True there was frosted glass enclosures around both the toilet and the shower but there was no sense of privacy. We found that we were constantly walking through the Smokey casino to either reach the entertainment area at one end or the main dining rooms at the other end. With the exception of the Epic theater all areas seemed very congested. We’re as the Oasis with it’s 5000 passanger count never seemed crowded. The food was just OK, much better on the Oasis. The entertainment was good but we had trouble listening to some of the vocal groups as they were in small lounges with not enough seating. I’ll stick with Royal Caribbean! Read Less

It was my sister's 75th birthday and we went with her whole family to celebrate it. I found the cruise to be very overcrowded, there were over 4100 passengers. There were lines for entertainment and food. Embarking and disembarking took over an hour for each. I am 78 years old and I was never able to find a seat at the "howl at the moon" piano bar. I enjoyed the games at the Atrium, but had to stand for most of them. The food was the very worst that I have ever had on a cruise. Never had lobster offered. Shrimp (except for the Japanese restaurant) were small, not fresh and slimy. Not one meal was delicious. Cabin was small. Very small shower and toilet facilities. Casino was the biggest rip-off of all. I played Texas Hold'em and when I've played in land casinos, the highest maximum rake that I have ever seen has been $7 per hand.. On this ship it was 10% of each pot with a maximum of $25. Absolutely ridiculous! On one of the nights, we had 8 of us playing and there were no winners, because the casino ended up with all the money. A small bottle of water was $4, a bag of pretzels was $7. Everything in the shops is way overpriced. The pluses were that the entertainment was very good(although mostly too loud). The staff was very friendly and efficient. Read Less
