We have been on multiple cruise lines and wanted to try Norwegian. The room was a balcony stateroom that was small for my 6' 7" frame. The bed was too short for me to lay on. The staff had to pull the top mattress out and stuff pillows and covers in the space for my head to rest on. This made crossing the cabin difficult. The separate toilet and shower were difficult to use and I injured myself using the shower. The food quality was not as good as other cruise lines. The food choices in the buffet was limited. The wait staff in the dinning rooms were inattentive but completed their tasks. The loud speaker announcements were difficult to understand because the speaker spoke the words quickly. We had to wait longer than expected before embarkation even started. We tried to carry our luggage off the ship to save time and were held up by the disembarkation logistics. Read Less

We chose this cruise because it departed from Port Canaveral, a smaller port than Miami, but as we have now found out one that is not capable of handling large crowds. We waited outside for 2-3 hours in bad windy weather, with verbal and physical fights to the point the sheriff's officer had to be called. The ship seemed unprepared for its guests, the casino had most its machines down the first two days, there was no band on board, the singer in the theatre had to sing to tapes, and the trio's on board were spread thin. The food was sub-par with very little variety, the same desserts over and over. Once the buffet snack in the casino was peanut butter and jelly sandwiches!! REALLY!!??? The ship in general lacked a happy vibe which I guess is the fault of the cruise director. The cruise ended the way is started, long lines to get on and long lines to get off!! Read Less

The smoke on deck 6 made us sick, had to see the onboard doctor, which really messed up our cruise. We love the Cavern club, but it was so packed that we couldn't enjoy it. People went to the show before and just hung out. Food from the Cirque was not good at all. The meat was cold. The biggest disappointment was that they only had two scuba (we are advance divers) excursions. They did not have any for Cayman or Belize which are amazing dive sites. We had to do our own for Jamaica, Cayman, and Belize. That was a huge disappointment. When we travel on Carnival they are working with us on the ship to schedule dives if they do not have any set up. Norwegian staff would not. The TV vacation planner did not work. We would have things schedule and it would not show up and then we didn't think we had it when we did. This happened in regards to a show and in regards to a dinner reservation. The iConceirge Ap said there was an upgrade and I was never able to use it. We did the Blackjack tournament and asked to get into the one of the rounds on a table that was not filled up and she said it was after 12 when our watches said 1158 and she would not budge even showing her the time. I was penalized in the Blackjack tournament for pushing two stacks of chips in one move onto the betting space when the lady running it told me I could not and then the next lady that took over told people to do it. Bathrooms on deck (not in the room) were often out of paper towels. The embark and disembark were nightmares. I've never had that kind of problem on any other ship. My wife said she would never want to travel on Epic again but I probably would (but not without her). After the experience, I prefer Carnival and the way they do things. I wanted to like Norwegian more. The stateroom and ship and staff were awesome. Read Less

We've cruised several times with NCL in the past, but only on shorter cruises and smaller ships . Based on our past experiences, we were really looking forward to our 10 days on the Epic. Our cruise started off on a really bad note. We arrived at Port Canaveral just after 11am, and there was already a long line. We got into line and soon realized the line wasn't moving, and nobody was being allowed into the terminal. Busloads of people continued to arrive, and without any authority to guide the situation, the line soon turned into just a mob. Several lines formed, some people knowingly or unknowingly cut into lines, and the crowd became vocally unhappy. Still no official from NCL or the Port was present. Eventually, some of the passengers found some line stanchions that weren't being used, and on there own tried to make some lines. It was truly chaos outside. It was quite windy and cold outside. Eventually, the line started to slowly move. It took us more than 3 hours of standing in line to get onboard the ship, and it was really all most people were talking about. Once onboard, things got quickly better. Good things about cruise: Crowds were reasonable considering ship was full (4100 people). Staff was awesome. Restaurants and bars were great. We enjoyed O'Sheehan's being open 24 hours for snacks. Ship seemed clean and well maintained. The best bathroom ever on the pool deck. Water slides were a lot of fun. Lots of good entertainment, especially Epic Beatles. Good ports of call with lots to do. Lots of places to go to escape crowds. Not so great things about cruise: Didn't get to go to Great Stirrup Cay due to rough weather. We've been scheduled to go to Great Stirrup Cay 4 times, but have only made on the island twice. I realize it's a safety decision, but it's still disappointing. In humid weather, the tile floors in buffet got quite slick. Bathrooms in staterooms a bit weird. Cavern Club venue not big enough to hold Epic Beatles crowd. Read Less

Chose the cruise as it had good itinery of stops and the price was reaonable. Did not like our stateroom as it was tight to move around and the bathroom setup was poorly designed. The staff and room stewart were excellant. Food was very good and dining staff were freindly. This was a 4300 passenger ship and we prefer the 2400 size of ship as this one was too crowded. Long waits for the elevator. Theatre seated 800 passenagers same size as on the smaller ships. Did not like the crowded pool area on the upper deck- too crowded not eneough lounge chairs. The enteratinemnt was for the most part was mjust OK. We have experienced better entertainment on the smaller ships in the past. We traveled with 2 other couples and like to play cards but the small games room was always full, smae size room as on the 2400 passenager ship size. Will not cruise on the EPIC in the future. Cabin - was fine plenty of storage - yes bed is not long enough but not terrible for people under 5' 6". Food - food in specialty restaurants was good. Service a little slow - seems like not enough servers. Japanese restaurant was my favorite - was fun and the food was very good. Though again it is really dragged out. O'Sheehans -hit or miss - most of the time they did not bring out the right food or brought out some of it and the rest a good 30 minutes later. Service terribly slow on the bar side - not sure what the difference is why it was so slow on that side. The quality of the food was not that great either - but my husband loved the wings so we had to go a few times!! Entertainment - shows were pretty good. Sadly I didn't stay up for most of the entertainment that was after 10pm. Wish some of the dancing things started early. Didn't like where they did the 'entertainment' in the main pool area. If you wanted to watch what was going on you had to stand around the area and it was three deep or more most of the time. Didn't like this layout for that area at all. The Dawn and the Breakaway were much better for this type of entertainment. Embarking - confusing when getting off the shuttle - too many others trying to crowd to get on the shuttle back to the AVIS rental - terrible traffic so shuttle to and from Avis was really bad. Person loading luggage on the 'carts' to bring to the ship was an old guy that we didn't trust to ensure the bags got on. We had some that was trying to leave on the shuttle we just got off of try to take one of our bags!! Was such a mess. But once we got into the terminal it was fine - plenty of seats for everyone to wait. disembarking is always a pain - was painful at Port Canaveral since they only had 2 customs people for the over 4000 leaving the ship. Plus the way the lines are mixed into where you have to search for your luggage made it confusing and terribly disorganized. I do not recommend the 11 day cruise for people 16 thru 25. There were very few teens to early 20's on the cruise. There were lots of walkers and scooters and people with canes! Also I just don't recommend the EPIC - too big - not enough seating for everyone - didn't like the pool setups at all in either the main pool area or the H20 pool -terrible ladder to get into the H2O pool and the water was way too warm. This cruise was recommended to us. We have been saving and preparing for this trip for over a year. This was my wife's birthday week. The checking in and boarding process was long and hot. Designated arrival times do not even matter. Every restaurant/ buffet/ cafe that was included was mediocre at best. If you wanted to see shrimp, and lobster, and other expected cruise ship foods, you will have to get it from the ocean on this cruise. Outside of the cabin Stewart, Casino staff, and some wait staff, the service was terrible. The ship layout has the main buffet dining at the top of the ship, so prepare to walk stairs a lot, because elevators are not efficient unless you go to breakfast at 6AM. My wife went to the spa to have her hair styled for dinner, and the person who did her hair made some insensitive comments about her hair and face that brought my wife to tears when she got back to the cabin. Excursions are chaotic and stressful with a lot of waiting. Recommend going onshore by yourself and doing the same activities at your pace. Felt like a retirement community by 11PM. That's when the bars on the ship start to close up, except Bliss, which smelled like urine, H2O, and the casino. Prepare to go to bed early on this boat. We disembarked with our luggage, and got off very quickly. Read Less

From the moment we stepped on the ship and saw the filthy windows everywhere that we looked I was concerned about the EPIC. Last year we took a cruise on the ESCAPE and had such a wonderful experience that we immediately put money down on another cruise with Cruise next. This year we didn't. The Epic was a huge disappointment. Unlike The Escape, not once were any of the windows/balconies cleaned while we were in port. Our room was filthy and the bathtub was filled with mold. The room steward never refilled anything like sugar, shampoo, lotion, soap etc. The boat was so noisy and shuddered continuously. So much so that the glass doors on the tub and the toilet rattled all night, every night. The first time I went into the room and used the toilet, there was a piece of glass and I cut my foot open...not a great start!! The television had so little options with channels and we had to keep watching the same 10 minutes of a crappy cartoon in between shows. We never knew that the first port in the Bahamas was a private NCL island and that we had to get a tender, communication was terrible!! Whereas Harvest Caye was beautiful last year, Great Stirrup Caye is in need of a major facelift. The port of call in Jamaica at Ocho Rios should just stop. The beaches are so rocky getting into the water that I was almost over my head in the ocean before I finally felt sand. It was very painful. After speaking to many other guests that went to other excursions on the island they all had the same experiences. During the trip, we spoke to a lot of other people and EVERY SINGLE ONE OF THEM HAD THE SAME COMPLAINTS! Almost every one of them said that they would never use NCL again, as of right now we aren't sure if we ever will either. If it wasn't for the wonderful experience that we had on the Escape we definitely wouldn't. We saw discrimination against a gay couple by the assistants to the cruise director that made us sick! The glow party was ruined for practically everyone because little kids were allowed to run around and knock over drinks and constantly bump into adults trying to dance and have fun, it wasn't the place for kids. It was brought to the attention to the cruise director by multiple people and he couldn't have cared less. Because of all of this and other reasons I rated this cruise poor...only because it was the lowest option available. Read Less

7 day get-a-way. Food, in 95%, was great, Foods service was great, except for an poorly trained waitress in The Manhattan Room. She was overwhelmed about the group size (11), and table was poorly set up from the start. Blame should be reflected on Dinning Management, for watching and not giving support or assigning help. She was truly in the wrong place. Each shore excursion started off and ended (debarking/ embarking) entering/exit the ship itself was good, but no ground support, or directions or signs to which line one should be in a close proxamtion to the excurtion you were headed to.. 3000 people heading to double set of doors and not knowing where to go. Tenders, Long line down the middle of the boat, then sit for another 45 minutes in the Epic room, to await on a boat. Returning to the ship.. No signs on where the line starts, lines crossing other lines. and very long. Could see Norwiegian crew staff standing around, but not trying to help. Each shore excursion, we planned, was great, once you got into the correct line... The cruise depends on yourself. Want to have a great time, you can, and will. It's what you make it... My advise to Norwegian staff, We are your employers during the trip. Keep your attitude in your cabin. Keep you options to yourself. Smile when you hate it, If you don't know the question/ answer, state that you don't understand, don't lie, or give false information. Your jobs are tough and your hours are long, we commend your services. Many people will work a whole year just to have a week of peaceful time. Don't make their hard effort's go to waste, That's you jobs, if you can't do it, get another job. There are thousands more waiting to have your job, and, without attitude... Read Less

We booked this cruise a second time because of the solid value offered, and the generally friendly and active passengers we experienced last year. Numerous people remembered us this time as we went about activities and dining, and all were repeat passengers for multiple past cruises. The big values for us were the Burn the Floor dancers that performed in the Manhattan dining room, Epic theatre, and ballroom dance classes. Amazingly fast and complicated moves appeared effortless except for the heat they generated. Many other talent balanced out the performances, including more comedians than last year. Standout hospitality from Roderick in keeping our cabin in perfect shape, even though our schedule was a bit erratic, and from all the food servers in the Shanghai and Manhattan rooms were really appreciated. Wallfredo managed our wine selections with insight and attention, and we have only good memories of many Manhattan dinners. We were laughing one night about what a comparable dinner, Broadway show, late night disco, and hotel in New York would have required; compared to just strolling around the ship for a few minutes and saying thanks for the experience. That’s value. Counterpoints were the smokey casino right in the middle of the ship and the three amenities floors that NCL has not safely ventilated to protect their employees and non-smoking passengers like me. That’s a prime reason for choosing other ships. Secondly, although you can find some healthy foods, they’re re mixed in with hot dogs, hamburgers, pizza, sweets and ice cream. Some deserts were labeled “No Sugar Added” but does that mean they are loaded with sugar-alcohols or toxic artificial sweeteners instead. More informative labeling or online ingredient lists would be greatly appreciated. Finally, the entertainment staff needs to expand their playlists to eliminate obnoxious repeats of over-played classics like “Hotel California.” Read Less

This was our first Transatlantic and did not disappoint. We found the crew to be excellent throughout the Ship. Everyone appeared to want to make sure you were having a good time. Our room steward made sure our cabin was perfect at all times. The Cruise Director Andre was great fun! The specialty restaurants were very good. The service in Cagney's was slow both nights we were there but the food was excellent. We always found deck chairs by the pool or on the quiet deck 18. Danced the night away to different theme parties every night. Caught all the shows, Priscilla, excellent, Howl at the Moon, so much fun, as were the Cavern Club Epic Beatles! Queens of Rhythm were wonderful! Embarkation in Barcelona smooth and fast. Disembarked self assist, off in 20 minutes. Took an NCL transfer to Orlando, easy peasy! A wonderful cruise. Would do it again on the Epic in a heartbeat! Read Less

Lets start with the Cabin. I thought my cabin was fine and housekeeping excellent. The Taste dinning room was perfect the staff was great, waiters manager everyone their I loved. I don't think the menu always had something I wanted to eat. The last few nights it really didn't change. I preferred the ambiance of taste more than I did the Manhattan room. Just my preference. I didn't think the Garden cafe had the best variety of what I wanted to eat. I did enjoy the specialty restaurants but felt I shouldn't have to spend so much more money on food when I spent so much on the cruise. I should have been giving more of a selection of included food. The gift shop was outrageously priced. I was feeling a cold coming on and had to pay $21.00 for a $5.00 bottle of Night quill. I ask to see the Dr. and was told it would cost me $190.00 just to see him. I have been on other cruises and to see the medic is free. This is after I paid for insurance on the boat, so what did I pay for. I paid for 5 excursions one for every port. The ones to Pompeii and Rome were excellent. Pisa and Cannes where horrible. When I complained they didn't really seem to care made me feel like we got your money, so to bad for you. It was so bad I didn't even bother to go on the last excursion. stayed on the boat and slept the day away. they tell you there is a party by the pool you get there no party. everything I wanted to go to was not where they said it would be. The best part about this trip was the staff and the other passengers were great. I have not one complaint about the crew who really hold it all together. Would I do Norwegian again? I think Not. We ate most of the time in the Garden Café which was well set out and the food was excellent however, not much for vegetarians . All the public places on the ship were very good and the entertainment and shows were excellent. We had a balcony state room, which overall was ok however, the curtain on the balcony was falling off on quite a few places as was the curtain which separated the toilet and shower. The shower was good and the room was cleaned at least twice a day a very compact cabin but ok for 2 people. The ports of call were stunning and beautiful we had amazing weather. I will mention , my mobility is not a 100% and I personally struggled a bit and I found the public places on the ship very hot. Read Less

4th Cruise all NCL, Epic, Spirit Escape and now back on Epic. We had four fantastic days in Italy beforehand two in Rome then two in Florence then returned to Rome for sail, took early train from Florence then connected to Civitavecchia to get the ship. We couldn't see transfer shuttle and ended up walking to port about 35 minutes and as we were excited to get on board it wasn't a problem. We only waited about 30 minutes in the terminal before we boarded about 12.15 Luggage was in the corridor with in 90 minutes and room was ready for about 3.30pm. Smooth as could be hoped for, the benefit of boarding in Rome is that only about 700 people board, after a ship tour and lunch it was muster time in the Epic Theatre for the Rome guests, muster takes about 5 minutes then they spend half an hour telling you what the ship has to offer, we had some beef with this, it was basically a sales pitch and we just wanted to enjoy our cruise many guests thought the same. (cabin review separate) Steward was excellent and always had our room made up and turned down in good time and perfect every time. We had premium all inclusive which gave us 14 bottles of water in our room an excellent addition to our cruise Shows, Priscilla was excellent, the costumes, numbers, acting all brilliant, a must see, some people say reserve but there was a few spare seats. The Epic Beatles, we seen them twice in the cavern club, it was not too difficult to get seats if you get in early but i'm told this is not always the case, we found all the shows, dinning, bars on this cruise were never at bursting point, busy, but not to the ridiculous scale we found on the Escape, especially the Atrium shows everything was very accessible but still a great atmosphere. This point alone made our cruise. The Escape was just tooo much people, even though this is still a "Big Ship" it seemed much less hectic although there was not a great deal of kids on board!! Bliss nightclub has had a great makeover since our last trip but we didn't spend much time here but it looks absolutely stunning , Howl at the moon, one of our favourite shows we got to see three times as there was always seating even mid show, always great! We like shakers but the singer was not our favourite each to their own I guess, also seen Jenifer Fair the operatic singer twice, fantastic!! Ports:- Florence we had already done pre-cruise so opted for a ship day, weather was not the best unfortunately but we were ready to chill and have a book day. Cannes we have done previous cruise so we decided to do Nice and Monaco but decided last minute to do Nice only we did not regret this as time may have been too tight to do both via train and we had a great day in Nice lovely walk along Promenade Anglais then we took the €10 petite train winch let us see more with stunning views. Palma took the NCL $10 bus to the old town and had a great day perhaps our favourite. Drops you off at the cathedral. Barcelona We have visited this beautiful city often so we just intended to walk around the city and reminisce but the previous day we befriended a Canadian couple and ended up giving them the $5 tour which we thoroughly enjoyed, the company made the differance. we spent a few nights in their company nearer the end of the cruise, we love meeting people on the cruises, and we met plenty this time around! Sea day weather sucked, so we renamed it bar day!! Naples We got our only proper excursion here, we used Italytours.EU to do Pompeii Sorrento and the Amalfi coast at only €69 per person we can not recommend them enough. Only 15 people on the modern minibus, so no waiting around on others between stops, we noticed a NCL sanctioned tour in Sorrento and as they walked passed us I noticed there was 50 people + all following each other and they probably paid double what we paid. small groups for the win!! All in all our day was perfect 2 guided hours (€15 entry) in Pompeii, 2 hours in Sorrento alone and great views of the Amalfi coast. Dinning Twice in taste 4 and 3.5 out of 5, Service was slow second night. Twice in Le Bistro 5 out of 5 both times and Cagneys once 4.5 out of 5 Manhattan once 4 out of 5 Garden cafe was so so, bit cold as buffets can be too often!! O'sheenans was always great for some wings and a beer!! Always a great atmosphere on this part of the ship the entire cruise. We even had breakfast there a few times. We love the Epic its a great ship and will most likely sail on her again! Read Less

Overall this was a fantastic trip. All of the ports were awesome with embarkation and disembarkation really smooth with the exception of Naples. Getting back onboard was a chore. The ship itself was awesome. I’ve cruised in the past and I often found myself with nothing to do, or entertainment that wasn’t entirely entertaining. Not the case with the Epic. The shows were fantastic and the dining options were endless. I traveled with a large group and there were plenty of options for us to get together as a group for dinner or a show. The only thing that wasn’t 100% was the quality of the rooms. The ship is a little bit older and the wear and tear was pretty apparent in some places. There were a few spots throughout where it looked like a quick fix was in place, but it was nothing that would have turned me away from sailing on the Epic, or any Norwegian ship in the future. Check in at the Barcelona port was relatively easy. Took less than an hour total from when we got there and when we were physically on the ship. You enter the ship in the casino area, so it's tacky and smells like smoke but don't let that get you down, it gets better. Room was fine, balcony was great (I saw 4 shooting stars at night!) and there was a lot of salt all over the balcony that I wiped down. I agree the room's bathroom is not great, and the bathroom door can rattle so you have to be very precise making sure it's in a good spot not to rattle all night. The couch in the room takes up too much space- we never sat on it, but that's being picky. Room was clean, and attendant was great- laid back but happy to provide excellent service. There are two smoking areas- one in the casino and one near the family pool. Other than that no one should be smoking on the ship. Also note- they give you a shampoo/conditioner combo that is not that great- fine for a week but if you prefer to have your own stuff then you should bring what you want. Bring a USB charger/outlet. Our room manager gave us extra hangers upon on our request. We downloaded the app, tried to familiarize ourselves with the ship. You can use the app even if you don't have any wifi package. They really should have a ship map available on the app, or show you where your reservations are- so the app could use some work, hopefully that will improve soon. We wanted to watch NFL but they didn't show any of the games - they showed European Football. They also show cruise-event shows that can be embarrassingly hilarious. The "Mr. Sexy Legs" competition that we didn't see in person happened to be on the TV, so did a couples show and a dance show from the ship- funny and awkward stuff, if you sign up to be a contestant, just remember you might be broadcast to the entire ship! Dining was fine, better than I could make for 4000 people. Buffets were to be expected and main dining was nice but forgettable. The Manhattan Room had live music so if you like that I recommend heading there. Teppanyaki was pretty much the same you would find in any American Teppenyaki restaurant. I loved the freestyle dining though. I would sail NCL just because of how great the freestyle dining is, eat when you want. Also, they have dress codes such as no shorts in Manhattan but it's more of a suggestion and they let plenty of people in that were wearing shorts. We liked eating at O'Sheehans after an excursion, they are open all the time and the servers were fantastic. We never had to wait long for any of our food. Entertainment- as a former entertainer, I make sure to catch the shows. Priscilla Queen of the Desert (Epic Theater) was hilarious and I loved it- that cast has a damn good time out there, costumes and makeup are fantastic. If you have a sense of humor, make sure you check it out. Burn the Floor (Epic Theater) had some amazing dancers, Cirque (Spiegel Tent) was pretty good but very limited in what they can do, it's more like a few interesting acts, and if you sit close you may get wet because one guy has a weird bathtub act- Food was not good for the Cirque show, they just asked if Surf and Turf was good (I said yes) and that's what you get- no other choices unless there was a dietary restriction but they probably would have accommodated if I wanted something else. My favorite entertainment though was the Beatles cover band "The Epic Beatles". I wish I knew about these guys so I could have checked out all their shows, I was only able to catch 2. These guys were phenomenal and fun, my favorite was the one who played John Lennon- extremely talented, I wish I knew who he was. They play in the Cavern Club and had a show in the main Epic Theater (plenty of seating for this). The Cavern Club is pretty small and you had to get there at least 45 minutes before the show to get a seat. Otherwise you were stuck with a bunch of people off to the side hardly able to see anything. I think they could improve the seating in the Cavern Club or take away some of the large seating so more people can stand in there. A few folks got up to dance and it was a great time for all of the Epic Beatles shows. I liked the Beatles show so much I actually went to find all my old Beatles CDs and they have now made their way to my car so my kids can learn all the songs. (It's way past time for me to take out the Hamilton CD when my 4 year old knows the words) We paid for the spa pass and I think it was worth it- however I wouldn't do the spa if I had kids with me since you wouldn't get as much time to be in the spa. Spa was clean, had great showers, and a balcony in the back. The Mandara spa staff will walk you through everything spa has to offer. This cruise only had one sea day- we used Italytours.eu for our Best of Rome and then Best of Florence/Pisa days. This is a small family company that relies on Cruise Critic and word of mouth to get customers, so they really want travelers to have a good experience. I would definitely book with them again, everything went smooth and was as expected (they give you a lot of heads up info beforehand). The drivers and tour guides were friendly, knowledgeable and patient with us tourists. One of our drivers had free wifi in his car, so that was a hidden bonus. For Cannes and Palma de Majorca we wanted to have easy days. Cannes we just took their little train tour around and then walked around the area/checked out the yachts. Since we were lazy this day, we just took a later tender, they run often. Other people took the train to Monaco but we didnt have that ambition in us. For Palma de Majorca we took a taxi to Palmanova- a beach about 10 minutes away. Heads up - people in Spain aren't afraid of being naked so act cool. We rented chairs and an umbrella there (total about 14euro cash), there was also a nearby bar that we could grab some drinks at. Fantastic weather and taxis easy to get. The service is great on the ships- the people we met genuinely seemed to like being in the service industry and making sure our vacation was wonderful. I used the laundry service -they had a midweek special for a bag of laundry for about $20- ask your room manager for info if you don't see it. Disembarkation- if this was my first cruise I would have been very confused. We received no information on disembarkation and trying to get anyone on the phone is very hard. So when I finally got the info from Guest Services- you have to either take all your stuff off with you, or pick up some colored tags at Guest Services that have a designated disembarkation time for example 7:30-7:45am (and have your luggage outside your room midnight the night prior)- however if you don't make the exact time you'll be fine as long as you're close to it. We were late because we had breakfast. They just have the luggage waiting there when you do get off the ship. Taxi line is long but not horrible. We stayed in Barcelona and even though there are warnings about pick pockets, I felt very safe throughout the city and while using the subway. As for the whole experience- I would sail this ship again and I would sail NCL again. My preferred cruise line has always been Disney but if NCL has the price, entertainment, and destinations I'm interested in I will use them again. Read Less

Chose this cruise for the wealth of entertainment to suit my husband and I and adult children whilst celebrating my 60th birthday. The studio single persons cabins were a bonus too. Found booking, embarkation and disembarkation a breeze and loved the itinerary around the Med.Entertainment was good quality and plentiful particularly liked Maltings whisky bar and the staff there. Cabin was OK I didn't mind the unusual separate WC and shower arrangement and I particularly appreciated the coffee machine . I have done the Med before and so didn't go on the organised tours but the costs were prohibitive and I would suggest booking online with an independent tour operator prior to your cruise.Anything outside your "package deal" is also expensive 5 items of laundry cost approx 40 pounds sterling and a bottle of wine with dinner was also expensive. I have cruised with Royal Carribbean previously and the difference between Norweigan and RCCL in terms of service was notable. The majority of staff were lovely but some of those in the buffet restaurant were rude reaching across the table without saying excuse me or acknowledging passengers. I watched one guy go from table to table replenishing cutlery reaching across people as they were eating. Indeed in O'Sheehans one member of staff cleared the table as I was still eating! The gym instructor was late for a 5pm Ryde class. But he was around as I could hear the spa staff urging him to hurry up and apologising on his behalf .He left 3 of us waiting until the other 2 gave up and I did the class on my own. Most staff were very nice polite and helpful, the ship had a good entertainment schedule and was very clean with decent food. However its Royal Carribbean for me next time!! Read Less

From the beginning - Embarkation, the staff were friendly, efficient and it went smoothly. The ship itself was a really good size and looked well looked after outside and inside, always very clean! The cabin was a fair size for myself and my 2 children, our room steward was excellent, room always cleaned and beds made up to a high standard every morning and evening, he was also extremely friendly, helpful and lovely to all of us throughout. The dining options were also excellent, lots of choices of different restaurants and menus, the buffet restaurant had a great selection of foods and everything we ate was perfect. The food was actually some of the best food I have eaten in the restaurants on board and the restaurant staff were also exceptionally helpful and friendly. There was a good amount and variety of entertainment during the day and evening, 'Burn the Floor' (dancing) was spectacular! Good music around the pool area during the day time. On board bookings for shore excursions were a bit pricey but I think that applies on all cruise lines. Would recommend booking excursions separately as we did as the prices were very high for myself with 2 children. My children attended kids clubs, there are separate clubs split into different age groups and both were very good, my children loved attending and the staff too, very well organised and lots of activities all week. Overall experience was 5 star! Would definitely book with Norwegian again. Read Less

We've sailed on Epic before and there are a couple of things that have gotten better, but it's still average at best. The cabin we were in 11320 is on floor 11 and is the forth from the left if you're looking at the back of the boat. The balcony furniture is uncomfortable and they give you a very small table 5"x 5". The cabin is fine. The bathroom is typical of a cruise ship as is the shower. The hairdryer is in the middle of the room, so if anyone wants to go out to the balcony while you're doing your hair, they have to get by you. The food is ALWAYS the same. The only way you get anything different is if you go to the specialty restaurants. They nickle and dime, so be careful...anytime they ask for your cabin number, you can guarantee you'll be charged for something. Entertainment was so lame, in fact the best thing was the male sexy legs contest. Service was slow but good. Before when we sailed Epic, you had to cut through the casino to get to anywhere good and it was always smoke filled. They've made that a little better...or at least we didn't notice as much this time. People still smoke on the balconies even though they are warned not to. It's annoying if you're just trying to relax with a cup of coffee. (That's just me). The ports are good but they are all far away from the ports. Example, Rome is a little over an hour and once you factor in the shuttles and trains, it's almost two hours. All of the ports require a train or bus to the sights worth seeing-It makes for an exhausting week. Maybe that's why the entertainment is weak- We took the free drink and internet pkg. My advice would be to take the free drink and excursion. The wifi is AWFUL! The package that comes with the offer is 250mins. which by the time you get on is not worth it. All-in-all the cruise was eh- Read Less

This is our 4th cruise with Norwegian to various vacations. There is always a complete focus on customer service. All areas of the ship are impeccably clean. The buffet offers, by far, the best selection of high quality food. There is always a fundamental focus on hygiene. We had a balcony cabin and always thoroughly enjoy the views. The steward is extremely attentive to your every need. We cruised from Barcelona to Italy and Spain. What an incredible trip. The shore excursions are always diverse. We cant wait to sail again with Norwegian. The ship offers so many entertainment options. From swimming, to game shows, bowling, a well planned casino. The ship is very well planned out and the signage is very easy to understand and navigate. Every single members of the ship’s crew is always looking out for you and what you need. They often anticipate questions before you ask and are always very friendly Read Less

First time cruisers on recommendation from friends. Airport to embarkation port was easy and welcome on board was friendly. Luggage taken off our hands and delivered to cabin. Time to discover ship and eat before settling into life at sea. Cabin was spotless and well put together with sea balcony. Toilet and shower with opaque doors and privacy curtain, huge bed, sofa, vanity unit and plenty of storage space. During the week,we made full use of dining, drinking and entertainment facilities. Some at extra cost for big show or special meal but everything was quality. We were on an all inclusive package which included drinks and gratuities(if not on this type of package drinks are very expensive and gratuities can be booked separately ay about $15 per person/day) Only downside was that shore excursions were very expensive. If we had taken a trip at each port it could have cost around another $1500 in total !!! Ideally some form of cheaper shuttle type transport to the major excursion sites would benefit a lot of people. We were however happy to relax on board and use the superb facilities. As a tester cruise this was a fantastic experience. Still haven't got over the size of the vessel and the comfort of the sailing, even when the wind got up.I suppose it is quite difficult to shift 160,000 tonnes of tour liner !!!! Read Less

We chose this cruise because our cruise last year on the Norwegian Star was absolutely wonderful, so we thought we’d try NCL a second time. We brought our daughter and her boyfriend (1st time cruiser) with us this time. I read a number of bad reviews about the ship a month or two before our sail date and was hoping it wasn’t true (comments about the stateroom design, ugly ship, etc.). Well, although I did like the NCL Star better for the shows, the Epic was still wonderful. While other reviews didnt like the bathroom layout, we preferred the shower and toilet separate. The sink on the outside of the bathroom was fine, we had no issues with it being there, in fact I preferred it. You didn’t have to wait for the other person to come out of the shower if you needed to use the toilet. The service was excellent in all areas of the ship, and the food choices were endless. I like how the pub was open 24 hours. Buffet food isn’t always the best no matter where you are, but there were enough choices that there was no way anyone would be without something to eat. I preferred the shows on the Star but these shows were very good too. You had to reserve a date and time for some of the shows. The staff work very hard, morning till night and they really do want to ensure you’re enjoying your time on the ship. We didn’t book shore excursions through NCL, too expensive. Instead you can find the same excursions through the web or when you get off the ship. We had a great vacation and my daughter’s boyfriend had a fantastic time on his first cruise. He will sail again and so will we. A few tips, take the train from Rome to Civitachecchia, it’s cheaper and very efficient. You can catch it at a number of the stations in Rome. You then pay 2 euro for a bus shuttle to the port from the station right to your ship, We took a ferry from Naples to Sorrento, you can buy your tickets in advance or at the port. Be sure to take your proof of purchase to the ticket window going to and from Naples. Sometimes the printed reservation accepted, sometimes you have to go pick up your tickets. Book tours through Tuscany Bus rather than NCL when docked in Liverno, much more cost effective. Also, we stayed one night in Civitachecchia after the cruse but noticed that there are a lot of companies waiting to take passengers to Rome or the airport for only 20euto a person, most companies charge 150euro online for 4 passengers and luggage. First time cruiser. Crew were generally great and biggest asset of NCL. However, not relaxing as anticipated... Boarded and had to wait from midday to 8pm for room so could not shower or change clothes. The "all inclusive" but pay for some things was confusing, as were complementry (or not) shows and dining, especially when online account showed charges that subsequently disappeared. Because we were on excursions every day we did not get good value from the included "all inclusive" dining or extra charge "ultimate Drinks" package. Lifts were frustratingly slow and overcrowded. Top Decks with outside areas overcrowded and more like a Butlins holiday camp than luxury liner. Had an outside balcony but room service was nearly $8 a go, so enjoying the outside that way not really an option. Customer Services queue was usually long and slow, and much time was wasted mainly because access to decent information online was poor. Fid was okay. Overall the experience fell short of expectation. The ability to hop off hop on at ports is good but we went with another (recommended) excersion company. The NCL excersions in comparison were very very expensive but I cannot comment on their quality. Don't do every stop because it is very tiring. Internet was blisteringly expensive at over $240 each for the week. It was the premium service but that was not really an option because the other (still chargable) options provided extremely poor (unusable) bandwith. In the library there are Desktop PCs and or but no scan capability. The desktops were useless, even when using premium internet account. Could not even check in with Airline and print boarding card - something I imagine many would want to do. I get the attraction of cruising but it was just too busy - good for the cruise line but not great for passengers. If I go on another cruise I would not go cattle class. I would probably choose a ship with a higher ratio of staff to passenger and a higher quality of service so that I can truly relax. Read Less
