My husband and I picked this for our 2nd year wedding anniversary. While we overall still had a nice time, the staff really didn't seem to be able to keep up or pay attention to the guests. Most of the bartenders we ran across seemed rather cranky and only half paying attention. I ordered 2 drinks at one point and my husband ordered 1. The bartender acknowledged all 3, then only brought back one and seemed annoyed at having to go make the other 2 when he asked again if I needed anything. There were also several occasions where food was ordered, took a good while then came to us incorrect. Either condiments missing or just completely wrong. I ordered a steak from cagneys medium with peppercorn sauce and it came well done with no sauce but by that time we had already waited a good while and I didnt feel like waiting any longer. My mother in law coincidentally ordered another cut of steak well done and it came medium rare the first time so she sent it back just to be put on for a little while longer and they brought back a fresh one that was even more rare than the first. Similar thing happened at osheens. ordered fries with a side of ranch. Fries came 30 minutes later with no ranch. Granted these are minor things but when it seems to happen every time several days in a row it can get rather discouraging. I think it all boils down to the staff being overwhelmed and therefore just throwing the stuff out there. It was all good food, dont get me wrong, but it's not always what we ordered and the portions were usually very small for the price. Entertainment on the other hand was top notch. We really enjoyed the comedians as well as the cirque dinner show and the teppenyaki hibachi restaurant. The pools...well...I'll never understand why they would only have 3 very small pools for people outside the haven to access on a cruise with 4 thousand people. Unless you wanted to sit on a stranger's lap you weren't getting in. Which was a bit disappointing but we found a nice set of lounge chairs on the deck near spice h20 to spend our time. I would say it's worth a shot if you have patience like I do. I rather enjoyed the cruise. But if you have limited patience like my mother in law, you'll really want to be careful of when you go because 2-3 bartenders in a crowd about 6 people deep all around the pool bar can be a bit painful. I can’t ever see myself or our group doing NCL again. Poor service many errors and overall poor customer service. Billing issues on my account before even leaving port. 2 drinks $74 bill. Had drink package. Lack of bar service. Only cruise out of 27 or so I had to visit the guest service desk 4 times. I am really easy going person. Food in the taste did not come out together from 1st person getting apps to last person was 10 minutes and the meal was 15. The pub should be a place to show up and have some drinks but you must check in to get table and wait. Freestyle Cruising has missed the Mark. You much plan all your items like shoes and tenders to shore. Don’t try to do what you want or when you want to do it. I will not say it ruined the cruise because our group still make the best of it. Looks elsewhere if you have cruised other cruise lines. Read Less

Needed a two bedroom to travel with a snorer. The ship is huge. Food in the Haven was excellent. The Manhattan room was very good but didn’t return because the band was very very loud. The Burn the Floor show was great but didn’t see others. I have been on many cruise lines and never experienced one before this one that charges for the better shows and charges for cocktails and umbrellas on their private island. REALLY?? With our drink package on their island we were offered beer but all alcohol otherwise you had to pay for. Fortunately we did find some shade so didn’t have to rent the umbrella. The biggest disappointment was at St Thomas. We had to be back on the ship at 1:30. So after taking an excursion we had to get right back to the ship. I did really enjoy everything about the Haven’s cabin, dining room, clubs and bar but the only criticism is when the band starts playing on deck 15 the piped in music at the Posh club should be turned down so you don’t have to listen to two songs at the same time. We would have enjoyed hearing the live music only. Also the service in the Haven was top notch. Read Less

Before the trip, I saw suggestions to reserve dining before the trip. I thought they were suffering from odc but you really do need to reserve anything you wish to do before you get onboard and some other things that you can only book on the ship. This ship is by far overfilled with passengers vs venue space. Really consider how calm you can remain because it affects service you receive. Also shows are hard to see if you like the main dining rooms. I believe this isn’t as much of an issue for buffet types. The embarkation/debarkation out of Canaveral was the quickest and most comfortable (nicely air conditioned)I’ve experienced to date. Once arriving onboard, this ship didn’t try to confuse us into buying a souvenir glass - a nice change from other cruises I’ve been on. The emergency drill was one of the easiest I’ve dealt with also. We were the first sailing with an unaffected itinerary after the ship incident in Puerto Rico. The gash could be seen, but otherwise nothing was affected. 3 of us were in a spa package. I didn’t find the room shape as disappointing as others. There is a slide curtain between the restroom area and the rest of the room. It provided as much privacy as thin doors have on other cruises. The layout does give a bit of extra foyer space and allowed someone to put on makeup while someone else was in the shower. I slept on the sofa bed and it truly was unexpectedly comfortable. I’m only 5’8” so it was plenty of room for me. Taller people will have trouble keeping feet on the bed. You have to keep a keycard in a slot by the door to keep lights on etc. However, any credit card sized card will work. It’s been a while since I’ve cruised but the balcony felt smaller to me. But not by much. The spa package was okay. It’s the first time I’ve purchased that and I wouldn’t on this ship again. The ship is overpopulated so pools and hot tubs on the top deck are inadequate. As the week progressed, people flocked to the spa in droves. My suggestion is to buy a couple of day passes for the first few days before people get fed up with the pool situation. Once the spa is full, you’ll deal with people holding all the spots with towels. As far as dining goes, every venue is packed so you’ll be scouring for a place to sit at the buffet. Anytime you have no reservation, you’ll be waiting up to 30 minutes to be seated. I tend to eat on main dining rooms on cruises but I am disappointed by how few venues without extra charge are available on Norwegian ships. I checked across the fleet and this ship actually has the max offered by Norwegian and it is the fewest I’ve had on other lines. This was the worst service I’ve had in main dining rooms on a ship before also. It seems like every waitstaff owns every table so in the end, no one performs well. Each meal was hit and miss. If something was forgotten, like silverware, you might wait 5 minutes looking at your plate. Sadly this is common on this ship. No drinks until halfway through meals. Food served out of order. Wrong food delivered. It is actually a bit comical at times. Overall the food was good though - nothing resembling stellar. The buffet actually had better food than I expected. The beverage package is the way to go if you drink at all. I’ve been on the Pearl ship before. As comparison, I had LOTS more trouble getting served. The bars have stools in the way for people to order. Every bar stool is occupied so you’ll be ordering over peoples shoulders. The bartenders are confused of who is next so you’ll get skipped over often. Your fellow passengers become jerks as the cruise progresses - they’ll start purposely ordering when it’s not their turn - mainly because of frustration of the congested conditions. I feel like the bartenders have been told to cater toward passengers without drinking packages first also. They may do it because package holders have already tipped so they pocket the tips whether they serve us or not. It’s a bit unclear but lower your expectations and don’t let it ruin your trip. Much of this staff is beat down due to congested passenger conditions- this is the least friendly crew I’ve experienced. Do not get me wrong - they are MUCH friendlier than service staff on land, but compared to every ship I’ve been on, this ship had more unwelcoming staff than others. I suggest you pick out the ones you like and try to go to those bars and ask for those servers. Personally, I filed out cards for the ones that were friendly and did their jobs. I’ve not done that before because ALL staff has always been great in past. The main theater shows were some of the best I’ve seen before. The shows that were in other venues, well I don’t know because we couldn’t ever get a seat to one. I didn’t see a single comedy act. This is the fewest shows I’ve ever seen on a ship and I think this is reason number one to choose another ship. There are too many passengers so you have to appear 45 minutes early to get to see anything. This would be okay but the main dining rooms do not book reservations so you can make shows. You’ll have to do buffet dining for a schedule to work out so you can stand in line. Food was more important to me. If you want to escape the big top, you can’t pre order. Order as soon as you board or it’ll be booked full. I didn’t know the drill so we missed out. The slides were nice but they only run 2 at a time. They move fairly quickly so you may do that a few times. The hot tubs stay packed. I was able to get in 1 one time during the trip. The pool is a little better but it is standing room only most of the time. We were able to find lounge chairs in the shade near the back of the stairs for the slides each day. All others were full unless you claimed them early. We did not. There were waiters on the pool deck for drinks but there aren’t many and it can be 40 minutes from order until delivery. The bars on the pool deck are packed so I really can’t say either option is great. It was quicker to run down into the ship to a bar and bring drinks back on top. The back of the ship has the adult only o2 area. It has a dance floor part of the time and the floor moves to make a pool. There are movies played at night back there too. The projector didn’t work well so it was all sorts of scrambled pictures so we never watched one. The potential is there but the stadium seating isn’t comfortable. The jogging track is the worst I’ve seen. It is on one side of the boat behind the lifeboats. You get no view and it is very unpopular. I never saw more than 2 others using it when I did. It was one place that’s uncrowded. It sounds like I hated the cruise but I didn’t. But I can have fun in most situations. Across 7 days, I only experienced 1 meal where the server completely deserted our table. And there was only one bar incident that truly irritated me where I finally asked the bartender how many times he planned to skip over me? I can’t recommend this ship because I know what service is like on other ships. This is the biggest ship I’ve been on so I don’t know if all 4K passenger ships have the same issues. I would be interested to know if breakaway and bliss has similar issues. I’ve been on pearl so I know it’s not across the fleet. Read Less

My elderly parents convinced the family to take a one last holiday together as they are convinced this will be their last. They had a good history with Norwegian so it was the 'go to' company. We booked 7 passages looking forward to seeing exotic places like Jamaica, Cayman Islands and Cozumel. We arrived in Port Canaveral several days in advance and the day before the cruise was supposed to leave, we got a message from NCL informing us our 7 day cruise was now a 5 day cruise going to Bahamas and their private Island. It was also boarding on Sunday as opposed to Saturday They were very sorry and were allowing us to cancel or take 50% off the cost of the cruise. So picture this..... 4000 cruise passengers scrabbling at the last minute to find accommodations and in many cases a rental car. Oh yeah, the Daytona 500 was on that weekend as well. Bedlam. We decided that we had spent considerable time and effort to get their so we would make the best of it. Should have cancelled. I have good and bad things to say about the ship itself: The good: Rooms were very well laid out. The waiters and cleaning staff were fast, efficient and friendly. The chicken fingers were excellent Liked the ice cream machines The Circ show was very entertaining although the Ariel portion was cancelled The bad: Freestyle cruising should be called 'Free for All cruising'. If you want shows or premium dining, better book the second you get on the ship. We spent more time organizing and getting organized than doing anything. The food was just OK. The buffet got boring after about day 3. Lots or technical difficulties, pools not full, toilets backing up, Spice H2O big screen missing a bunch of pixels. These sound minor but my perception is NCL has cut back on their ship maintenance which could have been a contributing factor to the previous cruises engine failure. There's more but I have probably said enough. All in a very disappointing experience, and to boot, the whole family is still getting over the nasty cold we caught on the cruise. A poor last trip for Mom and Dad. Read Less

Drinks all had Florida tax as in port. Notified Friday night of change and impossible to get through to Norwegian number. Guest Services assured us the cruise line would reverse $250 for hotel and expense. After cruise NCL said guest services gave incorrect information, NCL should stand behind statements made by Norwegian guest services. Pools crowded and pool bar served those most obnoxious first and polite persons waited forever. Only ate in dining room once as we both had illness after, Never ate at buffet. Comedy shows and nightly entertainment was very good. Walking track was a joke . Follow up after cruise that was less than satisfactory was non-existent. Read Less

We chose this cruise because it was the one my cousin picked for their 10yr anniversary. They chose this cruise because it went to St Thomas, which is where they went on their honeymoon. Boarding was delayed because someone knocked out one of the bridges. Engine failure on second day, which they apparently knew about and set sail anyways. They lied to us the entire time. Tugs pushed ship into docks when we arrived at Puerto Rico. That was the only poet we went to so they could try to fix ship, not on itinerary. We were supposed to still hit our last stop at Grand Stirrup Cay, and they cancelled that stop the night before. We slowed and were given stamp at international port so they didn’t get fined $700 per passenger. Disembarkation was a completely nightmare, as they had no control over who got off when. All of that, and they are only offering a credit. They refuse to give me my money back. Everything was terrible except drinks, food and weather! They could have handled the communication of the issues way better. If they had then all issues would have been overlooked, as we understand things are unpredictable. Read Less

I was on the Epic Fail cruise of 2019. This cruise was best with problems that I mostly, luckily, avoided. I got to the terminal early and was checked in and seated in about 20 minutes total, very efficient. I was also among the first hundred regular people on the ship. Here is where the problems started. There was a "computer glitch" which inconvenienced me in that the servers were slower because they had to write everything down. What I didn't know was that this glitch was keeping people from boarding the ship. Huge crowds waiting in the terminal for about two hours, dodged that bullet. A little about me, I am 50 year old male traveling solo with an group of disc golfers. I have taken about twenty cruises now, mostly on NCL. I love cruising and try to cruise twice a year. I ate in the specialty restaurants almost the whole week, I never went to the buffet. As a solo I tested the freestyle concept and was pleased with the results. I purposely didn't make reservations and was still seated in Moderno inside ten minutes! The food as always was fantastic, and I choose new entrees from what I usually do to expand my pallet and was very pleased. Back to the ship, so day two we lost motor power and sat in the ocean for a couple hours. Then we slowly limped into port and crashed into the pier. My friends and I made lemonade out of the situation and went to a beach resort had beers and played putting games. Even before we left port I knew we were not making the private island, distance divided by speed means nope, so when they announced we were getting in to PC late I was laughing. Finally there was the fiasco with the arrival time. Originally told it was going to be eightish everyone scrambled to change flight plans, the next day we find out it is more like three-ish when we get in and everyone scrambles again. I drove so I didn't have to deal with that, but the level of negativity on the ship rose to astounding heights. There is a reason the ship docks at 5am, having people camped out in all the public areas waiting to get off and getting angrier all the time is probably one of the bigger reasons. I saw a woman forcing people to look at her kittens and puppies to keep them from getting angrier. Overall my worst cruise hands down, communication from the bridge was inexact and only occasional. I never saw the Cruise Director once after the first mechanical. The comedians were eating it up and hilarious but it really wasn't that funny. Finally Epic is not the ship to be stuck on, with its small outside areas and persistent smoke smell inside I was more than ready to get off the ship and that has never happened before. Read Less

I must preface this review with the fact that this particular cruise was a combination of many freak incidents. We had mechanical engine issues and stopped at none of the 3 ports on our itinerary. So I cannot comment on any excursions or ports. The one port we stopped at, San Juan, we hit 2 smaller docks that sunk...check it out on YouTube :) All this to say, we spent almost our entire vacation on the ship. So thank God the ship was massive and had a ton to do! The restaurants were fantastic. We particularly liked getting breakfast at O'Sheehans and dinner at The Manhatten. Service and presentation were excellent at The Manhatten. Varied between bars on how strong the drinks were. Entertainment: we loved the dueling piano bar -- so much talent and so much fun! The comedians on board were fantastic and did a good mix of family shows and adult later night shows. Side note: the comedians had a ball with making fun of our ship's mechanical issues which actually helped relieve everyone's anger and stress over the situation. What can you do but laugh and have another drink?! Cabins: we were on an inside state room...we honestly don't care that much about the room as we spent most of the time in other areas of the ship. But for 2 of us, it was more than enough room. Service: overall it was good and the crew were incredibly patient and calm while dealing with thousands are angry cruisers. The only thing I wish they had done was communicate a little more information regarding the situation and updates. The captain and cruise director would give important updates over the PA system which was spotty in many areas. So many people were clueless to what was happening until receiving a letter to their stateroom a few hours later. It's been almost 3 weeks since returning with no communication from NCL on the refunds and credits we were promised. We are hopeful that they will provide information to our claim within the next month but again, I feel like customer service and communication could be much better for a situation like this that affected 4000 guests. Everyone we talked to who were veteran cruisers said that this has never happened to them and to do another NCL cruise. We most likely will...because we'll receive a huge credit for a future NCL cruise! Read Less

We went with my brother and his wife as they were already going. Getting on and off the ship was very easy. Don't like the way the bathroom is set up as there is not normal privacy. I would go to u-tube and watch a video on the cabins but although I like my privacy, it still worked out well. Our cabin attendant (Renee) was AWESOME!!! He was extremely attentive, called us by name every time he saw us and kept our room very clean, well made up and always had great towel animals on the bed each night. All attendants do not do this so ask for him. It was not always easy to call the other parts of the ship... ie: front desk...as they rarely answered. The food was incredible on floor 15: all buffets. O'Sheehan's Bar & Grill was part of everyone's package and was terrible. I ordered a Ruben and it had hardly any meat on it and took a very long time to get the food once ordered. We also tried out 3 of the separate dining facilities that you have to pay extra for. Teppanyaki was a favorite, next was Cagney's Steakhouse and Moderno Churrascaria was last on my list as the food was not very good and the service even worse. The casino was not very well serviced. Some machines worked and some didn't and they had very few servers to take drink orders and even less people to fix the slot machines. Fun but aggravating!!! As far as going back to this ship, I would probably try others as I have just booked another cruise for June on a different cruise line. It would have to be a very very good deal to come back here and this was my 7th cruise line. Read Less

This was my sixth cruise second time with Norwegian and my 30th wedding anniversary, I understand that up keeping on a vessel is necessary but arc welding and grinding off tie downs that were in the wrong place on the deck and closures of areas on the pool deck, very inconvenient. The specialty restaurants we did was La Cucina, Cagney's Steakhouse and Teppanyaki. All three were excellent. We also did the cirque dreams epicurean dinner , we enjoyed that show. Burn the flood was good, the comedians were funny, did not like Priscilla queen of the desert, Howl at the moon was also good. Buffets are buffets, the food so so. The bar tenders Won't make a frozen rum runner, but the drink package came in handy. Here is a good tip take the elevator on deck 15 outside the buffets up to deck 18 where there is padded deck chairs and hardly anyone around walk up to the front and enjoy. Wished we found that earlier in the trip. I don't understand why they don't have music in H20 during the day they have a big screen showing diving spots of the world. Wife did a few spa treatments she was happy with that. Not sure about doing that big of a ship again. Or at least that one, Port Canaveral is very easy on and off the ship. When getting off the ship Use the porters to get you and your bags to the front at customs. It's worth the tip. Read Less

Just got back from a 7 day Western Caribbean cruise aboard the Epic out of Port Canaveral, Florida. Here are my thoughts on the vacation. -UBP. Got the Ultimate Beverage Package for the week. Was totally worth it. Great selection of spirits, beer, and wine. The standard wine was excellent and was my drink of choice during the day. Totally saved us money. It was also nice not worrying about a tab at the end. Plenty of bartenders and really didnt have to wait in line for a drink. Best perk is that drinks are included on the private island. Very nice touch and adds the feeling that you are at an all inclusive resort for the day. Bartenders even remembered my drinks. -Food. Excellent food. My favorite was the steak house, French restaurant, and the Chinese. Chinese is included and not a specialty restaurant, bonus. Buffet has everything and very tasteful. Also, did room service which was great and offered pizza. Yum. Staff was very attentive and kept the food always stocked and very happy to help in anyway. -Entertainment: Broadway quality on the shows, make sure you take advantage and attend. You wont be disappointed. Nightclub Bliss was great for dancing. Also, during the cruise we watched the Super Bowl at H20 on the massive screen. Very cool experience. Plus they had a tailgating buffet of all the football food that you expected. Really a great way to watch the big game. Spa is massive and totally worth the pass price. Great place to relax after a long day on shore. Staff: Best part of the boat. Great staff that are always in a good mode and friendly. The hotel director, Nelson is great guy and very approachable. You see him everywhere around the ship. Our room attendant did a great job and kept our cabin cleaned and stocked all the time. Bottom line, this is one of the best cruises I've been on and I have tried them all. Great cruise of just about anyone. Singles, Couples, Families, etc. Will be back for sure. Read Less

The rooms are spotless and I loved having a bathroom separated from the shower area because we had two in our room so it made it easy to get ready for dinners and shows. The Food is great with such a big variety of selections. I recommend the specialty restaurants if you want fine dining I was very impressed! The best part of the trip was watching everyone from the staff to each and ever passenger smiling and feeling like a magical vacation! Pj was was favorite bartender he explained PJ stands for Pineapple Juice enough said! I had the pleasure of meeting Nelson the hotel director and his staff the hardest working team with a permanent smile! I have been in the travel profession for 25 years and highly recommend the Epic it was truly one of my best vacation experiences. Read Less

I took this cruise to relax and be taken care of for a few days. It's been a very stressful 3 years since I had been able to cruise due to family matters. I've been on several lines over the years (Carnival, Costa, HAL and Princess). I found a last-minute deal on Epic. I booked it at 1pm the day before it sailed, knowing nothing about NCL (except I always thought their ships were ugly when I saw them in port). So I made a leap of faith and at 5am the next morning super shuttle picked me up for my flight to Orlando. Uneventful flight, got a transfers to the ship from Contrans Shuttle (I recommend them). Arrived at Port Canaveral about 12:30pm. It was a total mob scene. If you are familiar with the terminal, the line wound around outside the terminal - back and forth THREE times from the luggage drop-off clear to the other end of the terminal building. Apparently it was a surprise EPIC was there. Once I got inside I noticed two of the 4 metal detectors were not in use and eight of the 38 check in stations were not staffed. Why? Just my opinion but when you have 4000+ people boarding it should be all-hands-on-deck. Time to board the ship: Over two hours. My cabin was ready, so I went there. It was filthy dirty. Smears on the headboard, cabinets, etc. Too much leftover DNA from the previous guest. I even had the executive housekeeper come to the cabin. When I asked for some cleaning products I was told no. All the food on-board was fine to good. The only thing that stands out in my memory is the perfectly ripe fruit. I dined in the MDR and buffet (no specialty). The only thing I took one bit of and set aside was the pizza. I'm a picky eater and "foodie" but I adjust my expectations accordingly. Service was good to very good (except for the host in the MDR, noted below). The rest of my review, will be a simple cut-and-paste from the survey with names redacted. I'm done with NCL, so that's all I want to do. If someone is placed in a disabled cabin, there needs to be printed instructions for the door. Nobody knew how it worked, initially. My cabin (12270)was dirty; fingerprints, smears on the headboard and cabinets, mystery goo on the door handles. I asked a manager named S***** for cleaning product so I could clean the cabin to my standards. He said "no". Then he told me I could not have a piece of paper to make reminder note for the door. The first night there were no coffee packets for the coffee maker. Housekeeping did not deliver any when I called. The next morning about 4am I called 00 to see where my coffee packets were. I was told my only options were to pay room service $7.95 or go get the coffee myself. Wrong answer. FYI - the right answer would have been "we'll send some right up, no charge". Then there's S***** in the Manhattan room who would not give me a pager when there was a wait. Telling customers "NO" seems to be a theme on NCL. Now for the good. Marco, cabin steward, did an excellent job. Wouter, guest services, was very helpful. Valeria, Locksley and all the staff in the Manhattan and Taste dining rooms did a great job. This was my first - and last cruise on NCL. Read Less

NCL always treat us well and are so nice. On this cruise, for us, it was all about the best band on this ship...4-Blue!! We never missed a night listening to them!! We watch them on YouTube at home since we miss them!! One downfall was when they got to play on deck one night but they only played for 1 hour! We, the great crowd of an audience wanted MORE of them, but they weren’t given permission to play longer.....the biggest mistake of the night! THE ONLY other thing we are not fond of are the design of the rooms. But we both agree this was one of our BEST trips ever! Big ship with lots to do! Stage shows were great also!! We are not a fan of having to make a reservation for some of them, but that’s how it is on this ship! The water slides are AWESOME....especially the toilet bowl one!!! Highly recommend Teppanyaki for dinner... it’s a WOW!!!!!! It’s a must!!! Bliss the nightclub was unpleasant the night we went....6 of us. We didn’t stay long. I pray they aren’t all like that on other ships. We enjoyed the pool areas a lot, and we enjoyed the couple, man and woman who sang onboard deck, but the raggae band wasn’t that great. In fact, I wanted to go elsewhere when they played. All other bands were really good!!!! We relaxed at the Martini bar at times....and the Beatles Band was VERY GOOD also!!! We’d take this same cruise on this same ship again anytime!!! Loved it!!! Read Less

The Epic is a large ship, so there is always a lot to do. We sailed Jan 23 for 10 days so some of the concerns we had heard with not being able to get chairs to sun ourselves were not a problem at all. I think this may have been because it was an older demographic due to a 10 day cruise. We had a balcony room 9087 and it was fabulous. It had more storage space than I could have ever imagined. We over pack and we still didn't use several areas of storage. Be sure to really look everywhere because there are places you wouldn't even guess that open to put things. It was wonderful. The bathrooms are unique and not my favorite but they were not as bad as I had anticipated after reading other reviews. If you make reservations for dining it is best but even if you don't the lines seem to go quickly. People started lining up early so it seemed like the line was awful but as soon as they opened the doors it was fine. The few specialty restaurants we went to were good but if you didn't do any I think you would be fine. Some people did specialty dining almost every evening and were very happy. We didn't go to the buffet until towards the end but I was pleasantly surprised. The shows were so-so, I would say that I have seen better productions on Carnival but they were still fine. I was not a fan of the Pricilla show but the acting was good. The main desk was fantastic and extremely helpful with anything you needed. I was very impressed with all of them and especially Angelica. I was leased impressed with the line (almost hour long) to stand in for the internet manager that was not very helpful nor very friendly. There needed to be two people in this area at peak times, it was ridiculous. Someone should have seen there was a problem and gotten some help. Overall I loved my cruise but if I have this issue on my next NCL cruise I seriously have to consider not cruising NCL again. The ports of call were wonderful and the way NCL makes sure that you are taken care to get to your excursions is very impressive. Almost funny, but very impressive. Read Less

12 day and a couple of ports i've never been to. The cabins have the sink and tub in the cabin. There is a screen which we did not get till the fourth day. Tub water was boiling hot and not easy to control. There was no hot water in the sink till the last day. Checkin had a line that lasted 2 hours. There were lines all over the ship, for shows dining and just about anything. Show Priscilla was nothing more then a mediocre Drag Show. The other show Burn the Floor was a very good dance show. The best entertainment was the Beatles show. Specialty restaurants were just so so and if they weren't given in the package would have been grossly overpriced. Ports were why we went on this ship but 3 of the ports were NCL islands. Last time for NCL. Will stay on Princess from now on. Ship has 2 elevator banks, front and rear. None in the center. Poorly designed. Read Less

This was our 19th Cruise and Our second time with Norwegian Cruise Lines, our first was May of 2018 on the Getaway. The Getaway was a POSITIVE experience, NO Complaints whatsoever. The Food and Sevice Was perfect. The Epic however, was not so enjoyable. To be fair, our embarkation process even though 3 hours in length, but was NOT the fault of Norwegian but a result of bad guest disturbances on the previous cruise. Our main complaint was a badly designed Stateroom. The shower and toilet facilities were the first thing visible when entering the room, very inconvenient, and almost impossible for two people to get cleaned up and ready at the same time. The bed was situated on a curved wall and very short. Anyone over 5’5” would have their feet hanging off the end. Storage was adequate but placed in weird places. The food quality on the buffet was also “adequate” but not as good as the Getaway. The Formal dining at the “Taste” and “Manhattan” Dining rooms was very good. The stage show “Burn the Floor” was one of the best we’ve ever seen, but “Pricilla Queen of the Desert” was the most offensive and disgusting performance we had ever seen on ANY Cruise Line! Primarily because we had not seen the disclaimer prior to entering the venue. If it had been possible, we would have walked out less than 15 minutes into the performance. The disembarkation process was also very long. The area that ourl luggage had been placed in was very hard to locate and the lines were extremely long. That process took almost 2 hours. Perhaps they could find a way to shorten that aspect. Read Less

This was our second cruise with Norwegian, so we now have two ships to compare. We took the Breakaway in May 2018, and the Epic in January 2019. Transfers from the airport and embarkation: Transfers from the airport were a bit slow: we waited 2.5 hours from the time our flight landed until we could catch the shuttle to the port. We found the transfer shuttle quickly – it just took a long time for a bus. The embarkation process once we arrived at the port was quick and very efficient - maximum 30 minutes from the time we arrived at the port until we were on the ship. Disembarkation and return to the airport was quick. We disembarked on time with our luggage and were waiting on the bus within 30 minutes. We waited on the bus for about 45 minutes (we don’t know why – it was full) before returning to the airport, but still arrived with plenty of time to check-in, eat lunch, and make our flights. The Epic’s rooms were slightly more dated than the Breakaway’s rooms. The largest issue we had with the entire cruise was the bathroom situation. Rooms don’t have a bathroom per se: there is a toilet room, a shower, and then a curtain dividing the front of the room from the back. There is a sink-vanity combo on the backroom side of the curtain. This was really tight and awkward, and would have been even moreso for non-couples staying in the room together (siblings, parents-kids, friends, colleagues, etc). Frankly, you can see and hear everything the person is doing on the other side of the curtain! However, the Epic’s rooms had significantly more closet storage than the Breakaway. We had tons of drawers, cupboards, shelves, and hangers so we were both easily able to fully unpack and hide our luggage for the duration of the cruise. Our cruise director Mandy was friendly but not as visible or approachable as our previous cruise director Dan Dan. Many of her announcements were pre-recorded, whereas Dan Dan would actually make the announcement in a public place. Our room steward Kevin was friendly and accessible. He recognized us and we saw him almost every day. Unfortunately, our room seemed to be getting cleaned later in the day, as we would return from excursions around 1-3pm and our room still hadn’t been cleaned. We had the pleasure of running into Shirley from the cruise director’s staff, whom we first met on the Breakaway. She remembered us and we remembered her. She was still bubbly, happy, and energetic whenever we saw her. As others have mentioned, the three pools are too small for a cruiseship holding 4000+ people. No more than 100-200 people could swim between these pools. However, we never had an issue finding a lounge chair or deck chair. One amenity that we quickly missed was the ability to dry our clothes. As a Caribbean cruise, you’re obviously swimming and wet every day: you need to dry off and have your clothes dry in a reasonable timeframe. Unfortunately, air circulation in the rooms was poor, even if you hung your clothes in the shower with the vent and clothesline. As a result, our room quickly gained a damp and musty smell from our constantly wet clothes and towels. We had to take our clothes to dry on the deck in the sun; otherwise the smell would have only gotten worse. Other cruiseships have pay-per-use laundry machines; the Epic only offered to do laundry once – a single laundry bag for USD$20, to be returned a few days before the end of the cruise. We’d like to see better laundry services. As expected, all of the entertainment was great. The Broadway shows Priscilla and Burn the Floor were incredible. The Cirque dinner and show were amazing. The impressionist, comedian, and magician were great. The hypnotist and vocalist were different, but something entertaining to watch. The outdoor theatre was great. The screen is a good size and the staggered layout allowed for dozens of lounge chairs and deck chairs to be used to comfortably watch a movie. The Atrium needs to be doubled or maybe tripled in size: the existing chairs were always full, leaving most guests to stand and watch the entertainment. The entertainment there is amazing! The competitions and gameshows were always fun to watch. It being full is a good thing, but something needs to be done about seating. There are two photo studios next to the Atrium that we never saw being used; perhaps they could be removed to make additional Atrium room. Alternatively, we’ve heard that other cruiselines have a dedicated “gameshow theatre” – a second theatre just for what Norwegian would do in the Atrium. Guest Services in the Atrium were quicker than the Breakaway. There were never long line ups more than 3-4 people. One issue we had was with Grand Cayman: due to wind we were dislocated from the primary port to another port about 20 minutes away. The wind is not Norwegian’s fault; however, it should have been Norwegian’s responsibility to get us where they agreed to take us. Instead, they simply announced taxis were available for USD$6 per person, one-way. Because of this, we were late for an excursion, which resulted in additional costs for us to find the excursion part-way through as well as us missing about an hour of the excursion. All of the food was good. The variety was excellent and we certainly never went hungry. The Garden Café again had theme nights for supper every night. One thing they could have done better was use and highlight the local cuisine. The ship was clearly very American-centric, so many of the ‘themes’ were just American food: American night, western country night, etc. We were sailing in the Caribbean and I would have liked to see authentic local Caribbean food (jerk chicken, fresh coconut, pineapple, mango, avocado, tacos, etc). The Epic has one less restaurant than the Breakaway (Breakaway also has Savour). This added a lot of pressure to the remaining restaurants, resulting in longer line ups and wait times. We would recommend making reservations early in the day. We had issues with O’Sheehans Pub again, as we did on the Breakaway. Once again, wait times were long and service was slow. It’s disappointing, especially since it’s literally the same pub menu every day. Why aren’t there always burgers, wings, and nachoes cooking and ready to go? We also had an issue with Taste Restaurant early in the cruise. Our total dinner service took more than two hours! It took a very long time to order, and then we waited almost an hour between appetizers and main courses with the appetizer plates still at our table. It felt like our server forgot about us. We had to ask him where our main courses were, and remind him multiple times that we still needed a room key returned after ordering wine. We missed a show and let him know we were too exhausted for dessert. Thankfully, when we complained about this issue, both the Food and Beverage Director and Manager called us to apologize, ask for our feedback, and gave us free chocolate-covered strawberries. Both of Norwegian’s private islands on this cruise (Great Stirrup Cay and Harvest Caye) were phenomenal. Truly paradise. It rained for the morning of Great Stirrup Cay, but so what? Go swimming and you’re going to be wet anyway. Both had tons of beach space and everything you could need. The fresh tacos at Great Stirrup Cay were a nice touch; the massive pool at Harvest Caye is unforgettable. The crew talent show on the final night was nice: it let us appreciate their skills and talents beyond just being crew members. We saw a singer, band, magician, and baton thrower among them. The Epic’s farewell event was not as nice or formal as on the Breakaway. The Epic’s was simply a 10 minute farewell video tacked on following the magician on the second-last night: it felt rushed and didn’t give the crew the recognition they deserved. Overall, the Epic is more dated than the Breakaway. It has much warmer wood tones and it’s darker in a lot of areas. It borders between warm and cozy and too dark at times. For example, the Atrium on the Epic had fewer windows than the Breakaway. As another example, the Breakaway had fish on the carpets that ‘swam’ toward the front of the ship. You don’t realize how helpful they are until they’re gone! As a result of the comments above, the Breakaway was 5/5 but the Epic was 4/5. It was still a great cruise and Norwegian was still excellent, save for the issues and opportunities above. Read Less

Embarkation It was smooth and we got on the ship quickly. Ship This is second time we have been on the Epic. It is a poorly designed ship with weird bathroom set up and no middle elevators but the price was right. The Disney Fantasy follow us through out the cruise and it was 3-4 k more expensive. We enjoyed Deal or No Deal and Bingo. We also enjoyed Burn the Floor. We would have like to seen Priscilla but was not suitable for our 10 year old, it would have been helpful to this information on the NCL website. We would have liked to seen more children friendly entertainment especially over the Christmas/ New Years break when there are lots of children. We ate at the Garden Cafe, I would have liked to see sushi, better tasting Chinese and Indian food but it general most of the food was very good. I would have like to seen better labeling of the food. We ate at Taste and Manhattan both were good. Manhattan was slow on New Years Eve. The cabin was fine and Francis our cabin steward was great. We had a hard time finding lounge chair. One guy was very rude and would not let me sit on a lounge chair. Andre the cruise director was good we saw he around and he said hello to the kids at the kids club. At Garden Cafe Pushcard (sp) was very nice. Information session with Jake. My daughter and I went to the information session with Jake. We were promised a free set of earring afterward. We only got a coupon to pick up at Diamonds International. The DI at BVI did not have them. The DI at St. Thomas did not have them. We had to go to downtown St. Thomas to get them. It was very misleading advertising and shame on NCL. Splash Academy My daughter was happy with all kids of the ship and she met a lot of kids. The activities were ok, she enjoyed going to the teen club. In general the staff were lacking and made some strange comments and did babyish games. The kids club was better of RCCL and Celebrity. Ports We enjoyed all the Ports. We went to Cane Garden Bay beach which was great. If you want to take a shower afterwards bring a quarter. At GSC, bring your own water shoes the beach is rocky and snorkeling equipment. The snorkeling was good and food at the buffet on the beach was good also. Disembarkation Was a little slow, it took about 45 minutes. Using a porter, we cleared customs faster. Read Less

This was the 2nd of 2 back-to-backs, Dec. 22 and 29, 2019. Having been on Caribbean cruises before, we did not make plans for off-ship organized tours, as we were warned of the slow disembarkation, especially by tenders, making it necessary to get into line early!!!. NCL did its best to make this easier, but it was still an hour and a half, with an arranged tender time, to get off ship at Great Stirrup Cay. A fault here for the process is that no one ensured that those with a scheduled tender were those who got on it. Around us were a number of people with later tender times, or not scheduled times, getting on the tender we were to get on. On the flip side, we were part of number of cruisers doing back-to-back and the process for us was well handled and well explained, and we received some special handling to make our mid-cruise disembarkation, US Customs, and reboarding as easy as it could be. We had full access to our cabins and the ship if we chose to "stay onboard". A disappointment for us was that there was no indoor lounge overlooking the sea, so to watch the sea pass by as you sailed meant an outdoor space, in the wind. This ship is not designed to allow one to just enjoy a quiet space to watch the world go by. Another annoyance was the need to pass through the Casino, with its smoking area, to get to the Atrium from aft elevators, or to access some of the restaurants. Gamblers can find a casino, others should not have to suffer its presence. In another review, I discussed the very oddly designed and cramped cabin (deck 9, balcony), but obviously this was part of NCL designing a ship to carry the maximum number of passengers, and ensure that their attention was always on the onboard action. The result is a ship that from onshore is as ugly as any container vessel, and onboard is lacking a mid-ship elevator bank so the forward and aft ones are very busy and patience trying. We had few issues with the specialty restaurants and found the food quality in them very good. The main restaurants we found noisy and the staff seemed to be too few for the number of tables they dealt with, so food arrived on the cool side and waits tended to be, at times, long. On the positive side, we found the food tasty and variety was good, although desserts can be skipped, as they tend to be pretty bland. On these cruises, the entertainment was fantastic, especially Burn the Floor, and Priscilla, both of which we saw a second time. Read Less

Freestyle cruising they call it. They say it empowers you to cruise how you want to. In reality, it just means you have to do all the work. There's nothing waiting for you once you get on-board unless you scheduled or reserved it ahead of time. Want dinner in the main dinning room? Hope you made a reservation. Otherwise you'll have to stand in line and wait your turn. You want specialty dining, booked solid for all the normal meal times. Hope you enjoy the buffet or are willing to wait an hour or more to get a table for you and your family. Yes, let's wait to eat at 9pm with our kids when we have a port of call at 7am the next day. You can always stand in shorter lines and get buffet food though. Nothing we ate on the ship was especially memorable either. The teppanyaki was pretty good but you had to pay extra for that and make reservations. The buffet was basically the same thing every day with a slight variation in main cut of meat they cooked that day. The chinese restaurant was terrible, from the service to the dried out cubes of chicken that was on my plate. We paid extra for the ability to select our cabins. We picked a great spot, same floor, close to each other and near a stair case for easy access. Almost immediately our reservation was cancelled due to an accounting error at NCL and by the time we got them to look into it the rooms had already been reserved by another guest. We spent three weeks asking them how we could fix it and they just kept telling they'd take care of it. Three days before our cruise date we were told the ship is fully booked and they can't doing anything about our room situation. The rooms we ended up in. One room you had to walk to the center of the ship (stairs are at either end) to hallway that took you across the ship the other side of the where our room was the second to last room at the end of a long hallway. It was a several minute walk to get there once we arrived at the floor the room was on. The other room was on another floor and almost halfway down the ship as well. This meant we has to walk almost the entire length the ship and change floors to get to from one room to the other. We were given $200 of non-refundable credit per room and Wifi. Credit we could only spend with NCL. So after being given the run around for three weeks while I assured my family they'd fix it, they did nothing about it, kept our money hostage and wouldn't even speak to us about it beyond the middle managers who could never help us and always had to "talk to corporate". I called multiple times only to get stonewalled and told they would contact corporate and get back to us. The first three time I was told this I never received a call back. Once aboard we were comped one specialty dining meal and after three days they upgrade one of our rooms. This three day wait was for NCL to be sure the persons who didn't board on the sailing date weren't coming. Such a service they provided for those lucky cruisers and they never even showed up! 20% gratuity is charged on top of every service and service was terrible and there was nothing you could do about it. This gratuity was also charged on top of the "Free" offerings as well. So, it didn't matter to the staff, they always got their 20%. Slow and poor service all around the ship. I guess if I wanted to tip for better service I could have but they were already getting an extra 20% out of me. And even if I did tip our wait staff to try and get better service they were different every night. What would have been the point. The $120 ($99 plus the forced 20% gratuity charge) a day "Unlimited Beverage Package" didn't include things like: a cappuccino, fresh juices, redbull or even just a bottle of water if you wanted to bring one with you as you walked the port you just arrived at. All of those were extra costs on top of the large sum you've already agreed to spend each day on beverages. You also can't take anything out of the mini bar in your room that is on the included beverage list. Average glass of wine was $12, do the math and see what it would take to "get your money's worth"! The casino is on the main floor of the ship and you HAVE to walk through it or change floors to get around it. This is an important point as smoking is allowed in the casino. Loved walking through a smokey room with the kids on our way to a meal. Kids areas: We gave the 12yo the right to come and go as they please in their respective area but unfortunately if they did go sign themselves in they would have had to stay there for 2 hours before they would let them leave or we would need to come sign them out before two hours if they were to get out earlier. This rule meant they never even entered the area for fear of being trapped there if it wasn't fun and I don't blame them. The 14yo didn't even want to go near the teen area. Did they get anything right? Getting off the ship was a surprisingly smooth process. We chose the 7am to 8am window and were able to get breakfast early at the buffet and then walk off the ship, grab our luggage and head to our car. I presume this was half related to our decision to do this before crowds began to grow though. Admittedly, with the reservation problem we experienced leading up the cruise, we started with a bad impression of NCL but we promised each other we wouldn't let that spoil our cruise experience. We're a pretty tolerant family and are very understanding that not everything will be perfect. However, the combination of all of these things has created an insurmountably low opinion of the NCL experience. As a family that cruises once or twice a year we wanted to try something different. This was our first time cruising with NCL and after this experience and lack of response by the company it will certainly be our last. Read Less

My wife and I have been on both Disney and Celebrity Cuise Lines in the past, this is the first on Norwegian. It is also our first cruise over Christmas. The good- lots to do and the Entertainment was the best we have seen on a cruise ship. We liked the balcony room design and our attendant was fantastic. If you have kids this ship is for you. Our favourite restaurants were The Bistro and Noodles. We have had a nice Xmas dinner at Manhattans. The bad- There was always a line whether we had reservations or not. It was annoying because the reservation system was abused by customers and the staff allowed it. Also some restaurants did not allow couples to reserve yet bigger groups were allowed,so while we stood in line big groups were brought right in. The ship was not very clean and the customer service was not up to the standards we are used to. Staff seemed confused and unsure. What we learned, we like specialized dining but with structured seating. We will probably return to Celebrity ( Reflection, Edge etc) and if we had kids go to Disney or Royal Caribbean. Celebrity should learn from Norwegians Entertainment package , Prescilla of the Desert, Burn the floor and the Comedians and magic acts were fantastic on Norwegian never saw anything that good on Celebrity. I had a great cruise on Epic in 2015 I gave the trip 5 stars in my review. Things have gone way downhill since then. The Entertainment on the ship was pretty good and a good variety of activities were offered. Krystal the solo host was very nice and helpful. The Thermal spa was also nice and I made a daily visit to the sauna and Hydrotherapy pool. I found it clean the drinking water was always filled and there were lots of clean towels and robes always availible, I never had trouble finding a heated stone lounger to relax on. My room Stewart Ahmed was also very good and kept my room clean all the time. The big issue with this boat was service in the Taste dining room Dinner usually took about 3 hours with most of the time spent staring at empty dishes. I could not get a refill of water without flagging down a server. One evening I had to find a water pitcher at a server station and refill all the water at my table. Usually half the table left before desert because they did not want to waste the entire evening waiting for cold mediocre food. I spoke to the matre'd twice and nothing ever got better. When I went there for breakfast once a man at my table asked for syrup for his Waffles or pancakes and the server said no you can't have syrup there was some sauce there and use that. The other time I went to breakfast there I asked for butter for my toast she said she would get it then disappeared not to be seen again that morning. My biggest complaint is that when the issues were brought up nothing was done to fix them. I did not go to the MDRs for the last 5 days of the cruise. I ate at the sub golden corral quality buffet or at O sheehans which actually had pretty good food and service. The entertainers did a good job I liked the singer Tetiana who let me get up on stage with her. Burn the Floor was awesome even seeing my 3rd version of it. The ship overall is too crowded I missed several shows because dinner took all evening and the theater is too small for the ship and was full by the time I escaped from the dining room. A lot of people did a really good job making guests happy on the cruise. But a few uncaring horrible Servers in Taste made all their work go to waste since the main thing everyone will remember is how bad the service and food was at Taste. Read Less

We were looking forward to another cruise with NCL, since our experience on the Pearl was good. This was awful! *The embarkation was a fiasco, with the problem being more Port Canaveral's. It was a cold morning, and they had to stop allowing people up the escalator to the indoor waiting area. Fights were taking place, and security had to be called. Most were cold, hungry, tired and confused, since there was no communication from anyone. This became a constant theme throughout the cruise! But at no time did anyone from NCL apologize for it and take some responsibility. When you were finally on board it was as if nothing had happened. *Pools are a real joke!!! 3 of them, with one being in the quiet area. Very small, more of a stand-up pool. If any more than 4 people were in it, it became overcrowded. The main pool area was the only pool space with shade, but the stupid music was so loud you couldn't talk to each other. Ridiculous! Even after request to turn the music down, nothing! *Waiting for an elevator became a game. No matter which was it goes, climb on because you may never see another one! Too many scooters!!!!!! * To see any show, you had to wait in line for an hour, then seats were gone quickly. I have never had that experience on any other cruise. Venues are way too small for that size of a ship with that many passengers. *Front desk was somewhat rude. I asked a young lady where the library was (mapped showed it very close to their desk). The girl grabbed my map and sent me to the back of the ship. I came back and told her it should be near where we were. She simply repeated her orders. It was across the hall and behind a door! *Layout of this ship is terrible. Hard to maneuver around anywhere comfortably. *Talent on board, except for a few, was pretty bad. Howl at the Moon singers were not singers! * Onboard activities: Napkin folding! Just Dance! *Movies selected were unbelievable! Overboard, Adrift and Showdogs?! Really! Who picked this garbage? (Andre'?) One good day they showed "It's A Wonderful Life" and it was standing room only! *It was Christmas. Why not organize an evening of caroling, or show more holiday related movies? Other than decorations, it was never mentioned or celebrated. Very disappointing. *That leaves us with debarkation. We were herded onto the 6th floor, with no announcement from anyone, just rumors, to try and organize a line, which went from the front to the back of the ship. There was 1 person from staff I saw and she was yelling at someone who was trying to take the escalator to 5! Apparently, some big wigs from corporate were suppose to be there for our leaving, but never saw a single person!!!! No, wait...there were two lovely ladies waving goodbye and thanking us...Washy Washy Girls!!!! That was it. No thanks for spending your time, your money and your sanity with us. They could have cared less. We will never cruise NCL again! Read Less
