Overall the cruise was great, compared to others we found more activities and lots more to do mostly in the evenings. The evening shows like newlywed not so newlywed, the perfect couple, celebrity dance off, cirque de soliel, burn the floor, comedians were amazing. I didn't care for the Pricilla Queen show, waste of time. The check in was a disaster took hours no clear signs or staff around to guide people, messy. The daytime activities even on sea days were lacking, I saw past schedules from people you recently went on other Norweigan ships- they had more interesting things like cupcake decorating class, interactive cooking demos... we didn't have much of that more like bingo and some poolside contests, the fun stuff like wine and chocolate was an additional cost, we pay enough for the cruise there should not be an extra cost. The cruise director Scott and assistant cruise director she was british were very friendly, smiling always and they made the ship more fun. There was options for everyone for food, however we did ask for a special diet menu and a few nights were very disappointed, one they made a huge error and brought us shrimp in our pasta we saw it and sent it back as strict religious vegetarians, next clean plate as we started eating we found another shrimp hidden, we were disgusted. I called the executive chef. At Thanksgiving dinner we were just given a potato cake with spinach it wasn't enough food and the apps were always salad which consisted of few pieces of lettuce, onions and few cucumbers, surely you can do better than that with a salad, we indicated we ate dairy so goat cheese and beets or candied walnuts something more original especially on thanksgiving would have been nice. I think there were too many people so the service lacked a little especially since on every other cruise I have been on they went above and beyond with our special diet to make us amazing tasty filling dishes, here we were more of an after thought. they need more adult pools and kids should not be allows in hot tubs, one day they put bubble bath in the hot tubs and made a mess, the kids stayed in the hot tubs for hours, this should be for adults only. the H2o pool was so small, need bigger adult pool, rock climbing was closed everyday when I checked. The tender boats in Bahamas were also a big issue and we had to wait hours to get to the island. The pros: activities and most shows were good, princess was so bad in this aspect. Kunal our service at the taste restaurants was excellent. Rayz the maître de was good he definitely made an effort. Praveen the chef did come to our table to apologize for the shrimp incident, the executive chef also apologized which was nice of them. Cruise director and assistant cruise director were excellent at entertaining people. Most staff were friendly. and the washy washy ladies were very nice. Read Less

Sure, I had some gripes about the cruise. Who wouldn't? But overall I was very pleased with the experience. This was the first experience on Norwegian for the wife and I. We found it to be very good in most areas we consider important: Entertainment, Dining, Gambling, Activities, Relaxation and multiple options at any given time. THE GOOD The ship offers so much to do, particularly with flexible included dining options. It's nice to have both a buffet and numerous, non-premium restaurant options. I love the noodle bar best and I highly recommend sitting at the counter. ENTERTAINMENT Wow! What impressive options. Two big shows, a cirque show, multiple bands and "street performers." Burn the Floor is an incredible dancing show. Everything from ballroom dance to the foxtrot and beyond. Amazing footwork. Kylie from South Africa steals the show. Priscilla Queen of the Desert is a cute Broadway-style adaptation with good production value, although the show's appeal is somewhat limited. Cirque Dreams dinner show. While an additional charge - Wow! Epic Beatles - great, no awesome tribute band. John is spot-on. Siglo - another awesome band. The Manhattan band - We tried to sit through two of their performances but the singing was just too off-key. Degas - He did a Neil Diamond set and other great appearances. A re-creation of Liverpool's Cavern Club was a great venue for the Beatles. And the main theaters fit their performances well, too. DINING We mostly stuck to the buffet, which was nice. However, we were dismayed by frequently being turned away from various restaurants and service counters because they were preparing to close for extended periods throughout the day. We would always seem to approach them at that time. In fact, during certain hours, there were only one or two limited dining options open on the entire vessel. You would think at least the buffet would maintain some level of continuous service. ACTIVITIES The water park is great fun. RELAXATION The thermal spa is to die for! Not only is it huge, it offers everything you'd expect from a spa and more. Saunas, steam rooms, Jacuzzis, waterfalls, and bubbles!!! The staff's aggressiveness, however, reflects the overall feeling onboard that every crew member has a sales quota. THE BAD Although we found a few diamonds in the rough, the overall level of service was not world-class by any means. A bit of snootiness here, indifference there and it all adds up. THE UGLY The toilets are awful, and since you'll probably be using them now and then, you'll certainly notice. Super-thin seats that make you feel like you're sitting on the bowl rim. Cheap, one-ply tissue. Ugh! The TV is almost as bad. No football games during one of the biggest weeks of the season. Just European soccer, and lots of it. I'd understand if the ship was servicing European travelers, but this is out of Florida! Read Less

We had friends already booked so decided to give Norwegian a try ...we booked a balcony cabin. What a shock that was. Very. Small had to back up in beside the bed in order for hubby to go past ... Bathroom toilet was seperate and very small no fan no privacy weird set up sink was in room and very small not deep , shower was ok. Our previous inside cabins were easier to move in than this one .... Waiting 1 hour to get seated in dinning room then over 2.5 hours for dinner was ridiculous a Hubby had a coffee I asked for tea got a cup and tea bag wIted over 20 min for hot water hubby had 2 coffees during this time , one night we were seated and received our menu the didn't see. Waiter for 20 min to place our order. Received dinner. Took a long time. Then waited for 20 min for table to be cleared there were 6 of us. Got desert menu and then another 15 before anyone came to take our order... Same in both restaurants taste and Manhattwn, , They say it's the Freestyle. Do what you want when you want but theatre is sooo small you need to book all your shows ahead of time the line up 20 min early to get a seat with your friends. Same goes for comedy club. Have to book in advance. And chairs were pub style bar stools very uncomfortBle for older folks , we missed a biooked show due to the late service in the dinning room one night , Not enough seating in the adults only area every day people saving seats at 7 am for the day. Never was able to get even2 chairs in this area Read Less

The port canaveral operation needs a manager to organize their operation. Right now it is a mess. Taxis & shuttles lined up to pay entry fees. Very poor oversight, I'd fire someone. The cruise lines should demand improvement right now. Once in NCL'S domaine, at pier 10, all went smooth & easy. Not a pretty ship. To me it looks like a barge with a hotel stuck on top. Well maintained, smart, clean interior decor. Smiling staff who are doing their very best, which is more than I could do considering some of the nasty people, "guests", they have to put up with. 4000 polite, normal guests, & a few mouthy morons who expect everything but are impolite, loud, cheap, ignorant slobs who demand something for nothing. This ship has the best entertainment afloat. Every venue offers top notch, quality performances. We really enjoyed the shows & the bands. All venues were filled to capacity & really rocked. 60, 70, & 80 year olds just mov'n & a shake'n. EPIC BEATTLES!, piano bar, Broadway shows, & Cirque! Something for everyone, really enjoyed every offering. After the dull 27 days aboard a HAL ship, this was a very welcome change. I don't know how anyone wouldn't rave about the food aboard NCL ships. They always seem to pay particular attention to PRESENTATION. Everything looks good. Every offering tasted good to me, but, I especially enjoyed the Dover Sole. Best I've evere had. Steaks were done as requested. I have a reaction to MSG & so I worry when I find beef served up especially tender...no problems with NCL...I love it. To each their own...NCL suits me. Read Less

The embarkation and disembarkation went very smoothly. We travelled with a big group and planned ahead for excursions and shows and dining and everything went smoothly. We were all very disappointed that our stay in St. Thomas was so short. We had to be back on the boat at 2PM which left very little time to sightsee and shop. I would not recommend this cruise simply for that reason. Dining was great; loved the freestyle dining! There were plenty of activities and shopping and entertainment on the boat itself. A number of us bought a weekly pass to the spa. The hydrotherapy and hot tub, heated lounge chairs, sauna and aromatherapy showers were amazing! You can get massages, facials, etc. also We used it every day and would highly recommend it. The fitness center had all the latest equipment and a great view of the sea along with classes and seminars. Loved it! Read Less

Not happy with the miscommunication regarding the non-alcoholic wine. Had the beverage package and still had to pay $24 for a bottle of non-alcoholic wine, yet my husband had red wine by the glass for no charge. Do not see the logic in this. Non-alcoholic was was only available in restaurants, not in bar/lounge/pool areas. Should be sold by the glass just like regular wine was. Made the call to Norwegian prior to our sail time to ask if there was non-alcoholic available, we were told yes, but not communicated that there would be a cost above the beverage package. The overall service, especially in the specialty restaurants was over and above. Disappointed in the O'Sheanan's pub, service was slow and mediocre. The cruise director and assistant cruise director made the overall experience extremely enjoyable. Our room stewart (Nayan) knew our names from the first time we introduced ourselves. He was very professional, friendly and helpful. Read Less

I took this cruise with a club my wife and I belonged to. I have sailed on Princess many times ,once on the Epic and thought it would be fun to go on a trip with the club. The ship was a big disapointment. We had an inside cabin which was very small. Its layed out in a weird configeration with a red curtain between the bed and shower. The sink is in the bedroom, so when you leave the bathroom you have to pull curtain aside and go to the tiny sink to wash your hands. We found ourselves getting into each others way. You would think the toilet, shower , and sink would be in one location. We are not big people and with that layout we were always in each others way,if you are a large person you will probablely have trouble in that weird layout. The ships comman areas always feel crowded . The buffet had a large selection of food. The only thing I found was it was not as hot as it should be , this included the two main dining rooms. One word of caution, in the morning the floors in the entire buffet are very slippery, I saw one woman fall. You can take your food outside to eat at the many tables located there. the problem with that is the constant loud dance music they pump out of huge speakers . The band stage is also located on the same deck not to far from the tables and when the band playes its way too loud! Its hard to hold a conversation. With all the people on the ship I didnt think the bathrooms were cleaned as often as they could be. With the drink package you have to go up to the very crowded bar area and wait till a bartender gets your order. Its usually packed. Staff does not seem too happy, The way the hallways are laid out where the cabins are is confusing with many turns, its easy to get confused to where your cabin is. The elevators are always packed ,I ony found two banks on eitherside of eack other, one in the front and back. The jogging track is on deck 7 and has no view only lifeboats to look at when you are walking or jogging and its only on one side of the ship. Even though they have smoking areas on the ship you will see people light up in areas where they are not suppose to, as by the jogging track and above the pool areas. I have taken 13 cruises and I would never go on this boat again if the gave it to me for free. Read Less

This was out first time aboard Norwegian Epic after a great Caribbean Cruise aboard Norwegian Star. We liked the freedom aboard and the choice of restaurants and times. The outdoors parties were great for all ages. We also like the climbing wall and pool areas. It is a large ship but you do not see the crowds. We were familiar with the ports and we tried something different to learn something new. These are the highlights of our Global Learning Adventures. We hiked the hills of Nassau up to Providence House with a great view of downtown, port and top of the cruise ships. We went to Mystic Mountain in Ocho Rios using a local van. We learned about Olympic history at Mystic Mountain Museum and got stuck under the rain while riding the cable car. We waited "singing in the rain". During our days at sea, we enjoyed the shows, dancing areas, and our cabin. We are inside cabin cruisers as we like darkness to rest. Our cabin is just to go to bed very late and wake up early to watch sunrise. Join us and be a Global Learner. Read Less

First time on NORWEIGN Cruise. Picked this particular cruise for its itinerary and ship. Some of the reviews weren’t very good. I was a bit worried about the size of the ship, but also very excited. We are a couple in our mid 60’s traveling with two other couples and one single. Embarkation was smooth and painless. Went right away to the buffet and was delighted with the selection and cleanliness of the buffet. Food was really good. Then We went to check if our cabin (11th floor, mid ship balcony) was ready and it was. We found that having the bathroom divided into two sides, one being the potty and the other being the shower, was odd at first but not once was it inconvenient. Actually several times my hubby was showering and I was in the potty and it sped up our getting ready for dinner. There was SO much storage in the room, it was great. Every place you looked, there was more storage. We were able to keep our room neat And uncluttered for the whole week. The bed was awesome. Very, very comfortable. Pillows were great. Unlike other ships, our glass balcony outside was kept SO spotless during the whole cruise. In the past, I had to call housekeeping to come and wash the glass so we could see out when we were on the balcony. That was such a surprise and made such a difference to us being able to SIT and watch the world go by. We got the adult beverage package and three nights in a specialty restaurant. Other cruisers on the website, complained about the lines and no staff walking around. We never found that. Always great service...never a line....drinks were great. Mudslides were FABULOUS. One night, we ate in Cagneys Steak house. It was really delicious . We also ate in the Brazilian restaurant. It was just OK. Found the food very bland. And had to eat fast as The waitress was kind of hurrying us along. The third specialty restaurant was during the CIRQUE show. You had no choice of menu. Salad, soup and then filet mignon and jumbo shrimp. The food was delicious, but the show was CRAZY WONDERFUL.....we were thrilled. The other shows were good enough to be on broadway. Priscilla queen of the dessert was hilarious. We laughed so hard we cried. Stomp the floor was ok...the guys were bored. The late night comedy shows were so funny....even the earlier, cleaner comedy shows were good. Howl at the Moon Piano Bar was a blast. Singing along, listening to the banter between the piano players was sooo funny. We loved watching movies outside. So much fun.. The casino took our money. But I’m sure it takes everyone’s money who plays, wins and then decided to give it back. Had lots of fun loosing. Penny slots were great. Shoppes on board were about the same as every other cruise ship. High prices on jewelry, low prices on cigarettes and liquor. Ports were..well..the same crap, different islands. My hubby bought a tee shirt that says just that! Couldn’t find any place with free wireless internet. Did eat lunch in Margaritavelle in Cozumel, as they promised free internet. I couldn’t even get on line. Someone else got on line, but couldn’t text or call..oh well...we got off the ports (we missed Norweigns Private Island)due to bad weather and high waves. Never felt the ship move..NOT ONCE. it was wonderful !! We also got reimbursed the port charges for that port on our account. I thought that was really great. Customer service was awesome. Helpful. Friendly. Knowledgeable. My biggest fear was the crowds on board. Honestly the only time I felt crowded was upon leaving or boarding the ship on the ports. There was SO many elevators throughout the ship that we never waited more than two or three minutes. There was never a long line to be seated in the main dining room. And I guess I should mention that the food in the dining room was so delicious. Never a bad meal. Delicious soups, appetizers, main courses and sweet, delicious desserts. The activity director kept things jumping all the time. There were so many different activities to do, whether in port or at sea. Lots of games, shows, demonstrations..all day. The music at night so great. So many choices, so little time. Disembarkation was my only real complaint. It took us so long to get off the ship. People weren’t following directions being given over the speakers. So I guess I can’t blame the cruise line for people who just do their own thing and don’t take others into consideration . While on board we tried several times to see the agent about booking a future cruise. But that line was LONG. So now I am doing just that on line. So I can sum up our cruise in a few words: easy, relaxing, fun, serene, delicious, awesome, stress free, fattening, hilarious, sexy, and just treated like a king and queen. Looking back on two cruises on Carnival, both we were disappointed in. We didn’t like anything about our one cruise on Celebrity. Royal Caribbean was great also. But no comparison to this cruise on NORWEIGN EPIC. The cabin was great. The ship was Gorgeous, Food was delicious, employees went above and beyond...bagels and lox every morning. What could be better?? FABULOUS SHIP. FABULOUS TIME. THANK YOU NORWEIGN EPIC... Read Less

My wife and I love NCL, with that said our experience on the Epic left us disappointed. We would not go on the Epic again nor would we recommend it. Not enough space for seating during meal times, not sure what they were thinking when designing the ship. Even the main dinning area you must have reservations or wait long periods to get in. The show's you need to have reservations, we have never experienced this with any other cruise we have taken, even with other cruise lines. To get a tender we waited 1 3/4 hour. This appeared to be poor management, only saw two tenders used. On the return to the ship they had 5 tenders, they had many upset people complaining, probably why they bumped up the tenders for the return. No privacy in the restroom area. It was clear to us that the ship size is more about making money than customer service. We will certainly do NCL again, but we will stay to the smaller ships. Read Less

We really enjoy NCL for its food service and shows, but this ship has squashed our positive feelings, let me explain. The ship holds 4000 plus passengers, mostly heavy drinkers and casino addicts on this cruise, but that was not the problem. The design of the ship is not passenger friendly. Firstly the balcony cabins are small, with a huge uncomfortable to sit on sofa bed occupying much of the space in addition to the beds in this cramped space. The bathroom is another issue. On one side of the door to the cabin is a phone booth size shower stall, and the toilet is on the other side in a similar stall. The tiny sink is located about 6 feet away next to the closet in the cabin- and I mean tiny. More importantly there is not enough seating in the show room, or in the atrium area where many activity are held. These are simply nice chairs but there are not enough of them. Activities there attract a lot of guests, most of whom must stand. The cavern club where great music takes place holds less than 100 people- again very few chairs. The comedy club fails in the same way. We were also disgusted by their "dueling Pianos" that for one show featured two improvising drunks begging for drinks or tips, or in the second show a screetching girl player and the worse drunk.Crowded, but not for long. There was a lack of band music to dance to, and the large Bliss lounge was underused, mostly saved for drunken karaoke singers. If you do not buy the drink package be prepared to pay 9 dollars for a beer, and 12 for a mixed drink. They will not allow you to bring on board a bottle of wine, or bottled water- 3bucks to buy it there. This ship is a real negative for NCL, so avoid it. I have been on 30 plus cruises- I know a dog when I see it. Read Less

We were looking forward to our first NCL cruise for a year and can say (among many others we encountered who echoed the same sentiment) that we will not be returning. The Norwegian Epic had it's bright spots, but overall we were more disappointed than anything. Lets start with the ship itself. Embarkation was typical. A few delays, but the ship holds thousands of passengers so some waiting is to be expected. Once on the ship, catching an elevator is almost as difficult as hitting the lottery. NCL really needs to increase the production on these things. If you're looking for a vacation where you never close your wallet, well you've found it. NCL charges for so many things. Most shows, some seminars, games, bowling, any offered classes - it's all extra. This is in addition to the restaurants, which some are not only an initial fee, but the menu is also a la carte. The Garden Café (buffet) seating is ample, but the food was often cold and average. O'Sheehans turned out to be our favorite spot. The drink prices and drinks themselves throughout the bars were highly inconsistent - we got the same drink for 2 different prices and two completely different tastes within half an hour one day - one $3+ more than the other. You're charged $17+ for a 6 pack of water, which the crew then confiscates from you upon returning from certain ports. Totally logical. You're required to have a ticket for even the complimentary shows, and making reservations for tendered ports is definitely encouraged. NCL's highly touted 'Freestyle Cruising' is actually quite regimented and limiting due to this setup. The pools are very small and narrow, deck chairs were consistently reserved with towels beginning very early in the morning, and the crew stacked them up relatively early in the evening. The shops, art gallery, and sundries shops have all the typical cruise items. The ship overall was HOT everywhere other than the 5th floor. Our stewards were very friendly, fast, and attentive. They kept the cabins very nice. We went to the Svendka Ice Bar which is open in the evenings with reservation, costs $23+ (entry fee and 2 drinks included), but is definitely fun to see. There's things to do on the ship, but at the same time, there's not really a lot going on. NCL really just counts on spending money at the bars and specialty restaurants as your entertainment. Let's talk about ports. Our first port was NCL's private island, Great Stirrup Cay in the Bahamas. The beach was nice enough, but it's really the only thing to do, which is great if you're looking forward to a beach chair and swimming all day. There is a small straw market which takes about 15 minutes to see the entire area, and a complimentary bbq or taco lunch. Past that, you have to pay for anything else. This is a tendered port, so be sure to get in line on time. Guests of The Haven are also given preference over the rest of us cruisers and taken to the front of the line regardless of how long others have waited. Our 2nd port was Ocho Rios, Jamaica. Corporate NCL seriously needs to walk thru and see the condition of this port. We docked at a pier which appeared to be an old dilapidated freight port. We then had to walk a good 20 minutes down a mountain on a crumbling sidewalk full of holes, trash, beggars, congested with speeding drivers, locals handing you 'gifts' and then demanding money, locals attempting to take you for a ride/tour, physically grabbing and holding onto your arms and hands, and offering/attempting to sell all types of drugs and stuffing small bags of them into the peoples pockets who made the mistake of buying whatever the individual was selling. The word 'No' is totally disregarded by the residents. Once you finally reach the town, you find a downtown that is filthy, crowded, more narrow sidewalks, stores full of cheap trinkets, and locals who stand out front and harass you to buy something. To top it all off, Jamaica was under a State of Emergency and Travel Advisory during our trip due to crime, which NCL conveniently forgot to mention. We turned back within an hour. 90% of our ship was also returning due to the same thoughts about Ocho Rios so at least we could travel in more of a pack for safety. NCL needs to remove this stop from their itinerary immediately. It is not somewhere visitors need to be. 3rd port was George Town, Grand Cayman. No complaints. A very nice port town, ample shopping, nobody bothering you, clean, beautiful water, and lots to do in addition to shore excursions. You're on a tender here also, so arrive in ample time. 4th port was Cozumel, Mexico. Cozumel's water was clear in spots. We docked at 1 of the 2 piers and the better shopping seemed to be to our south, we just chose not to take a taxi. The shops were clean, but not much variety. More locals bothering you to come into their stores and the agent prior to getting back onto the ship snatched a fellow passengers money out of her passport when checking ID's, attempted to hide it, then claimed it was a joke, but this port was still a monumental improvement from Ocho Rios. Onto our mini suite cabin. The Epic's staterooms have a 'Wave' design and it just doesn't work in all the rooms. The beds were at the front of this room and were practically in the bathroom area. You could lean over and wash your hands in the sink. The beds can't be separated further than 6 inches because they are locked in a curve, the bathroom and shower are across from one another on either side of the room and the sink is outside of the bathroom area. The shower and toilet are separated from the rest of the cabin by a curtain with the sink and mirror outside of the curtain. The bathroom is small, beyond small. We had 3 cabins - all in one day! Our first cabin the air conditioning barely cooled, but the main problem was the cabin flooded in the very early morning hours due to something going wrong in the wall from the neighboring cabin's plumbing. We had a temporary cabin in the afternoon which was a regular balcony cabin. Due to the wave setup, this room was very small - spring for the mini suite. We were then moved late that night to another mini suite where the air worked and the beds were at the end of the wave by the balcony doors, which was WAY more efficient. And this room didn't flood! The Head Guest services manager did rectify the entire bad situation which we were satisfied with. The room itself is decorated in warm tones with mahogany and plentiful storage, the balcony is larger than most ships, so the appearance is nice, just not so much the aesthetics. We wanted to love this ship and this line. Unfortunately, NCL misses the mark and they're not worth spending the money on. At least the Epic sure isn't. They're trying to be luxurious, but have yet to master simplicity. First cruise with NCL, last cruise with NCL. Epic fail. Read Less

Ship looked great from the outside a little unusual but we were excited to go, we had prioritie boarding and could not find any direction to use this perk, the lines were enormous we finally got on board and waited a while to get to our cabin..here was a surprise a bathroom that wasn’t a bathroom! Neither my wife or I appreciated the European style of the room with the deconstructed bathroom and lame curtain dividing the bedroom from the toilet facilities. And for that reason alone we will be much more selective of the cabin layout, I certainly will not book on the Epic again, the Shows were fantastic. Entertaining, funny and worthy of Broadway... dining was its usual wonderful experience food taste and presentation were wonderful. The ports were also enjoyable I was surprised with Grand Cayman very nice! Been to Nassau enough not to get off the ship but my wife and her friend did go ashore. The private isle Great stirrup Cay was great. The weather was a little cool this time of year so if we cruise in the winter again it will be to ports a bit further south disembarkation was efficient and speedy it seems they were more anxious to get us off the ship than to allow us on Read Less

We chose this ship because we wanted to go to Jamaica and the Cayman Islands. We flew into Orlando and took the Go Port Canaveral transfer package from airport/ to hotel/ to the ship/ to the airport. It was an easy process. It took about an hour to get from the hotel to the port. IMPORTANT TIP: To speed past much of the line, find the elevator. It drops you at the top of the stairs! At that point, it still took 45 minutes to get on the boat. So, any shortcut helps! We stayed in a mini suite on the 13 floor. This was a good location, as it was a short 2 floors up the stairs to the pool deck and buffet. The gym was up one deck. The room was very strange, as many reported. We adjusted without much problem. There was a lot of storage space and closet space. However, electric outlets were sparse. They were located under the cabinet opposite the bed. Not very convenient at all. Bring your own body wash and shampoo. They have some stinky herbal stuff that was short of disgusting. And lady's, there is no conditioner!!! Bring your own. Last year we were in a suite on the Dawn, and had some awesome Bvlgari products. This is our 3rd Norwegian cruise. This was our worst in terms of service. We had the drink package. It was hard to find a bartender that was attentive or not rude. No one smiled. They seemed annoyed to be there. We never experienced that on other ships. We were in Spice H20 most of the time during the day. Finding waiters was difficult, at best. We waived, yelled, etc.. to get their attention (when there was one to be seen). They would wave and then make their way after 5 minutes or so. Again, annoyed to be there and no smile or friendly words. The restaurants were OK. The menu never changed, so if you wanted variety, you needed to try another entre or go to a specialty restaurant. NOTE: We usually dress up for dinner and got great service in the Manhattan. However, we ate in Cagney's twice- both times the service was without a smile. The experience in Teppanyaki was good. It was entertaining. The food was just ok. I had steak. It was under seasoned. So was the rice. My wife had shrimp and scallops. The scallops were very fishy and seemed undercooked. The Garden Cafe was fine, however, many of the "American" dishes were far from tasting that way. I think they need to invest in an American cookbook, because American staples should look and taste accordingly. Pool Deck- get there early and reserve a spot, or you may find slim pickings on finding chairs- especially at Spice H20. We like being in the hot tubs. One day they were very hot, other days cool or luke warm. No consistency. Entertainment- I thought Norwegian was supposed to be "freestyle"? There were many venues that required reservations. Even tenders? We reserved the Burn the Floor show several months in advance. Upon boarding the ship, we had a letter in our cabin that said we were bumped, and rescheduled to another show (on the last night of the cruise). Not cool. Also, we paid for premium seats for the Cirque show and were seated upstairs. We didn't get what we paid for. The show was outstanding, but we got the bait and switch. The Epic Beatles were also very good, however, get there at least an hour early if you want a chance at getting to sit down. The bartender is not very friendly in there either. We got into the dueling piano bar, which was OK... I've seen better singers. We never were able to get tickets to Escape the Big Top. This ship is big and crowded. Tours- In Jamaica, we went to Dunn's River Falls plus the VIP Beach tour. This was a very good experience. In Cayman- we went shopping and went to a restaurant and had lobster tails for lunch. When we returned, we found many people who reserved tours had them canceled due to rough seas. We decided not to go to the private island. The tender reservation schedule just wasn't worth the hassle. We heard there wasn't much shade, the food wasn't very good and the beach was crowded. Glad we skipped it. Next time, we will be more selective to not book cruises with more than one tender. Gym- The gym had plenty of equipment and machines. However, there were no towels the first few days, which was annoying. Also, no attendants there. Maid- She was great, pleasant, smiling and very friendly! We tipped her extra! All together, we like Norwegian, but this trip just seemed like less service and less for our money. Maybe that's what you get with the bigger ships? We still had fun and made the best of it. It just wan't for us. So, we won't be cruising on the Epic again. Read Less

We were not at all impressed with the Epic. We have cruised 20+ times on almost every cruise line, and chose the Epic because we enjoyed the food on the Breakaway so much. We even talked friends into going with us. In a nutshell, here are our issues: (1) Too many people are crammed on this ship. Even with reservations for EVERYTHING, you spend most of your time waiting in line. (2) They said the "bathroom" was modeled after European bathrooms. We lived in Europe for 12 years and traveled to almost every country. Never did we have such a setup. The toilet is in what can only be described as a shower stall IN the cabin; the shower stall is also IN the cabin, as is the sink. The only privacy you have is a curtain between you and the bed. (3) The cabins are very small--even the balcony cabins are claustrophobic; I am 5'4", and my feet were hanging off the bed every night. We've sailed in everything from an inside cabin on Carnival Liberty to a suite on Celebrity Reflection. Never have we been in such a tiny space. (4) There are a lot of different entertainment options after dinner, but they are much too small to accommodate the number of passengers trying to get in. (5) The check-in appointment for embarkation was not even necessary. The lady at the counter checking us in had no idea what I was talking about. We sat in this huge gym-like room with about 4000 other sweaty people for an hour and a half waiting to board. Disembarkation wasn't much better. We've sailed from Pt. Canaveral before and not had such issues. (6) The food on the Breakaway was MUCH better than the Epic. For example, we suggested to the friends we brought with us that we not miss the "Seafood Buffet" night, because on the Breakaway it was amazing with lobster tails and crab legs and all other kinds of seafood. How many ways can one cook shrimp anyway? (7) The ship wasn't nearly as clean as it should have been. The public bathrooms only seemed to get attention when people complained. I complained twice. All in all, we were very disappointed in this ship Read Less

The entertainment onboard the Epic is the BEST at sea!! Production shows, musician, and variety of entertainment are all amazing!!! The staff is also wonderful... very attentive, helpful and friendly. The ship's layout is very poor. There is no mid-ship elevator... and either end elevator is missing at least one floor, meaning you frequently have to walk from one end of the ship to the other to take the elevator to your destination. For anyone with any difficulty walking the 1000+ feet length of the ship (as is the case with my mom), this ship is VERY difficult to navigate. Embarkment: Port Canaveral doesn't have any wheelchairs available until you've already gone through security (read: long line standing and waiting), and walked the length of the entire terminal and gone through your registration process... THEN you can get a wheelchair to board. Food: The only specialty restaurant we dinned at was Shanghai's... the service was great, the food was marginal at best. The buffet was loud, crowded, and food was average to poor. BUT... we ate MANY means in The Manhattan Club and O'Sheenahan's. Service in both of these restaurants was great and the food in Manhattan Club was spectacular!!! Plus they have live music, a dance floor and avery quiet/upscale atmosphere. Taste serves the exact same menu as Manhattan club, but is less formal. Taste is also much louder and we didn't enjoy it as much. The outdoor dinning was impossible to enjoy because there was always so much wind up there. One morning we ate there, and the wind blew the coffee out of the cup!!! Breakfast ANYWHERE on the ship is marginal at best, and basically is over at 9 or 9:30am. There is a large 'gab' mid-day when the only place to dine is O'Sheenahan's (but their food is great). Entertainment: DON'T MISS Burn The Floor!!! It is amazing!! Also the dueling pianos in Howl at the Moon were great!! Priscilla Queen of the Desert was a hoot, with amazing costumes, wigs, music, etc... but it is NOT for those who are easily offended. Cirque Dreams was a wonderful show, but the food was poor. Buy the standard ticket & skip the meal. DO try to take part in the activities in the atrium... game shows, dance lessons, singing contests, etc. At first I thought this was silly and didn't want to go... but once I DID, I wished I'd gone sooner! The staff makes these shows amazing! Plan on attending the "GLOW PARTY"... it is REALLY FUN!!! No matter your age, you'll find it a real trip. Also, this is the first ship I've been on that specifically made accommodations to help single travelers meet fellow passengers. Stateroom: We were in a Family Balcony Mini-suite. The room was quite large and has TONS of storage!! We put everything away and still had several empty cupboards!!! The bathroom wasn't as bad as I thought it might be... BUT our 'shower' was in a tub and it had a VERY high side (much higher than yours at home would). VERY difficult to get in and out of. The balcony was large but the chairs were in poor shape, and one was broke, plus only table there was a tiny little side table... not room to eat there. The hallways are a bit confusing, but what ship isn't? Some other thoughts: Additional charges: THIS was one of the real bug-a-boos on this cruise... I felt like I was being nickle and dimed to death!!!! The beauty of cruising is it's all inclusive... not with Norwegian! Even the "complementary" restaurants have menu items that require an 'up charge'. And of course, there are about half the restaurants that are specialty and require an additional charge. PLUS... if you want a Pepsi (they don't have Coke) anywhere, be prepared to pay! I hate the way they bill the gratuity, daily/per person on the bill. It makes your bill VERY lengthy and it felt like every time I looked at it it was another page long!! Many of the onboard 'activities' required an additional charge, and even the Cirque Dreams show (without the meal) requires an additional charge. AND... although they sell this as 'free style cruising'... you must make a reservation to do anything!!! I understand that with 4000+ people on the ship, but it really removes any option for being spontaneous. Also... there is no central atrium... no mid-ship elevator... and the elevators that are there, are totally enclosed and dark!!! When I saw the first one open, I felt like I was stepping into an elevator in Las Vegas in 1980! Overall the ship's entertainment and staff were AMAZING and in many ways made up for the defects of the ship itself. However I doubt I would take Epic again... the ship was too big and had too many people on board. Read Less

After 5 cruises with NCL, this was the worst one. It wasn't bad, but it wasn't what we expect with NCL. THE GOOD: - The entertainment was the best of any of the cruises I have done with NCL or Royal Caribbean. - The ship is huge but they did a great job making it feel like a normal ship. - Bartenders are all nice and can make good drinks. - Posh is amazing - Water slides are fun - Casino was big THE OK: - My wife has a food allergy. Normally NCL is amazing with pre-orders, this time it was a little more of a challenge but she got her food in the end. - Casino table games start more than many vegas casinos -- Pai Gow $25 THE BAD: - Food is not as good as every other ship we have been on, even the specialty restaurants weren't as good as the Jewel class ships. Food service wasn't great. - The curve design of the rooms is annoying. I knew this going in but it does render the couch totally useless. - Pools suck, small and too warm - DJ from the Glow (white Hot) party wasn't good and the party was kinda lame Read Less

Our daughter has cruised this ship before and liked it. Liked the restaurants and entertainment. Did not like the smoky casino. Also, the elevator nearest us did not go to 5th floor. This was a major inconvenience. Would like to try another ship out of Port Canaveral. Shore excursion folks could not help us in determining if excursions would accept a disabled person. Guest services did not know about access on shore excursions. This disability office did not help either. After docking at Cozumel we discovered we could have done an excursion after all. Visited the spa services of acupuncture and massage/mini facial. Appreciated the special prices on port day. We saw the Newlywed Game, Cirqe, Priscilla: Queen of the desert, Burn the floor and musician/illusionist. Enjoyed all of them. Liked the evening music by Ben. Major complaint was the casino. It smells so bad and and makes the other floors smell, too. Read Less

This was the largest ship I had been on. There were alot of people and the elevators could not keep up with it. We waited for endless minutes for the elevators and then when they hit our deck, there was no room for another person. Usually would do the stairs but was traveling with family member that could not do the stairs. Cabin stewart was very friendly but not very attentive. Had to beg to have towel animals on our bed (c'mon thats the excitement of the cabin) forget to give us fresh bath towels and didnt take our plates and cups that were empty in the room. The food was very good. The speciality restaurants were outstanding....definetely try Moderno and Cucina. Cant say enough about the entertainment. The Epic Beatles......WOW! the Cirque Dreams Epicurean was outstanding....Acoustic sessions with Ben....WONDERFUL! all of the islands visited were amazing....nothing to compares to Great Stirrup Cay private island, it was a beautiful day and not a care in the world. Just a few small complaints, but overall enjoyed the cruise. Read Less

We flew in the day before and enjoyed a lovely day in Cocoa Beach prior to the cruise. Our hotel overlooked the ocean and we could relax and enjoy a beach day before heading to the ship. On the recommendation of TripAdvisor, we went to Florida's Fresh Grill for dinner and it was by far the best dining experience of our vacation. Highly recommend! We have always liked sailing on the bigger ships and booked this cruise for it's Eastern itinerary and to try NCL for the first time. Unfortunately, due to the hurricanes last season, our trip got switched to Western. Obviously, this was done due to damage at ports, and we did get an extra port because of the change, but it is disappointing to pay for Eastern and get the less expensive Western for the same price. The ship itself was disappointing from first sight. It is very boxy and has none of the styling of previous ships we've been on. It looked like a giant floating hotel, rather than a ship. The layout was awful, from the weird bathroom arrangements to the lack of outdoor space on all but the top decks. Due to the amount of balcony cabins, there was no space on lower levels to get out and explore the ship. Only went on deck 7 once on the outside and there was no view (obstructed by lifeboats) and full of smokers. The casino is in the middle of deck 6 and open to below in Taste, one of the MDRs. There was no way to avoid the smoke and it permeated several areas surrounding it. Even some closed off bars nearby (the Cavern, O'Shean's) were smelling strongly of smoke. I heard many others complaining of this throughout the week. Due to the layouts of decks 5,6,and 7, it was difficult to go from one end to the other without getting cutoff by a dining room or the casino. The shops were also not that exciting, with one (the one with the booze and sundries) being completely separate from the others, making it harder to locate. We also found the deck layout tough. With so many passengers onboard, all looking to get some sun, the loungers were taken up by 8am by chair hogs and with half the deck dedicated to smokers, there really wasn't too many options. The dining was ok. Not great by any means, but hubby and I love cooking and found the food quite boring. It seemed that all the attention was given to the specialty dining so if you wanted a great meal, you had to pay. We have never felt the need to book a specialty restaurant - the MDR food has always been very good to excellent on each of our previous cruises. Three times hubby ordered the steak from the "every night available" side of the menu because there were no appealing options. I ordered the linguine with clams one night and it was really good with the pasta cooked perfectly. Hubby ordered the spaghetti carbonara the next night and it was so salty he could barely eat a few bites. The chicken cordon bleu was inedible, prime rib was awful, there was no lobster night (which has been offered on all of our other cruises), and desserts were boring. Highlights were the braised lamb shanks, steak, and french onion soup. We also had the Cirque Dreams dinner experience and the meal was a caprese salad with prosciutto, filet and garlic shrimp and a trio of desserts. Aside from the steak being a little too overcooked for my liking, it was very well done. The show, costumes and staff were amazing! Entertainment was the absolute highlight of the cruise. Everything was top notch. We saw Burn the Floor, Cirque Dreams, Priscilla Queen of the Desert, two comedians and the Epic Beatles. Book ahead of time for everything ( we booked before the cruise for what we could). Every show was sold out during the cruise with some standby seating. The only thing I missed that I would have liked was the Escape the High Top, an escape room type of event. We also enjoyed the Ice Bar just for the experience of it. Drinks were WAY too strong but it was a fun time. Service was friendly for the most part. The washy-washy-happy-happy girl spraying your hands with disinfectant at the buffet was always smiling, our room steward was nice and we had a clean room every day and towel animals most days. The entertainment staff were fun and lively. Bar service was slow but to be expected with the large amount of passengers on board. Bartenders were always friendly but I didn't have a "favourite" that I would recommend. We had only booked one shore excursion (the stingrays in Grand Cayman) and that was cancelled due to the waves. We ended up taking a shuttle to 7 mile beach instead. For Nassau, I researched ahead and planned a self guided walking tour which let us explore on our own. We enjoyed our day there and ended with a light lunch before heading back to the ship. In Falmouth, we stayed only in the secure area and shopped in the port before heading back to the beach. We paid half the price for my husband's watch than was quoted on board. The perfume I wanted was also $20 less in Falmouth than on the ship. We really enjoyed our day in Great Stirrup Cay. It was relaxing and sunny and we headed to the third beach area which was substantially less crowded than the other two. They are building towers to allow for zip lining in the future so there will be lots to do there when it is completed. There were plenty of loungers, and all cabanas and clamshells were sold out prior to our arrival so if that's what you're looking for, book early. People were parasailing, lounging on floaters, snorkeling and generally having a great time. Disembarkation was easy and quick. The lineup after we got our luggage looked huge but only took us about 10 minutes to get through. I would try NCL again but would NEVER want to try the Epic again. Even crew members at the NextCruise desk were quick to let us know that other ships had different layouts. Read Less

Chose the cruise because of departure and ports of call. The entertainment was 1st class as was the service. Line ups at the dining rooms were long and when you got a table the first thing you noticed were all the empty tables around you. It seemed that there was not enough staff to bus the tables as people left. The food was great as was the service once you had a table. A reservation was needed for everything right down to the tenders, not exactly my idea of freestyle.lines were long for everything.the room was poorly laid out and way too small. Even though smoking was prohibited on balcony, this didn't seem to apply to my neighours and continued even after my complaint to guest services.at 5his point the money spent on the balcony($1,000.00) was completely wasted.had a very unpleasant encounter with a member of the security staff over 2 small bottles diet coke which after a few rude comments he grabbed from my hand and threw into the trash. I didn't feel that this was a suitable way to treat my personal property. If it had been rum they would have held it and returned it at the end of the trip. No service at all in the buffet area. Bar service was very slow. Cabin service was great. Entertainment was fair. Best enterteainment was the Circus dinner and it cost extra. The Priscilla show was offensive to say the least. We are long time cruisers on othe lines. This was our first on Norwegian. The disembarkation was terrible and everyone was complaining. Never had this problem on 40+ cruises. We may try Norwegian again but on a different ship out of a different port and we live 45 minutes from Port Canaveral. I know cruise lines are cutting staff to reduce costs but it's becoming more apparent with each cruise. The bar service and dining room service was good but just not enough servers for that crowd. You have to wait a long time to get on one. Most time passed our floor after we pushed botton .so we had to use stairs alot. We are senior so wasnt to happy about that. Like Carnival cruise way better. Food was better for sure. We only waited 1/2 to load. Got our suitcases sooner. Never waited more that a min. ofr a elevator. To many drunks on board. Shoulnt open bars till at least lunch time. Lot people dont drink and we get tried of all the drunks that early. My paper for my tip wasnt delivered till MIDDLE night or by 7 am morning we left. Then i got it up on tv. You already took it out. I would of never tipped.. At least on carnival you go to a computer and do it the night before yourself . Didn't hear the first day about fire alarm drill. seen everybody going somewhere when we ask where they said all boat was to meet. We never heard it then when we got there it was just over. Then next day we where given a time on our paper to be there at 11:00 am. We went to the island at 10:00 We where on vacation was ;not taking time from vacation to do a drill. Should of had that while we where all waiting to get our suitcases. and it should been on our beds and announced so we would of heard it. When in our rooms we couldn't hear any announcements. We didn't need reservation to see a show on our carnival cruise. It was first come first show. Not enough seat in th aluim place. We had to stand for all the shows. Even got there 1/2 early. Need more seating. Defiantly would go with Carnival next time. only second cruise we took but Carnival was way better. Other people thought same as us on many items above. Read Less

It pains me to write this review. NCL has really gone down hill. This was my 6th cruise with NCL and I can see how things are deteriorating from my previous experiences. The service on this ship was horrendous as well as the quality of the food at all levels. The ship was overcrowded and you wait and wait and wait for one of TWO bar tenders to make you a drink. It seemed like many on the staff were walking around with a chip on their shoulder and you would barely see them crack a smile. The cruise director Pedro is a complete joke and I can't believe they can't find someone better than this to represent fun and energy. The ship is tired and is in need of a makeover. The main thing I took away from this ship was the extremely rude and poor service of the staff at many levels. I think it is very unlikely we will consider going on another NCL cruise and start looking at MSC or Princess instead. NCL nickels and dimes you any chance they get and they do not appear to appreciate you as a passenger or customer. Read Less
