Why too many guests for the size of the ship. There were not enough pool side chairs. No sitting in the buffet area. The disembarkment was a disaster. I have always self check out, the time given for this was between 7:30 and 8:300. We left our room at 8:00. Took over an hour and a half just to get off the ship. Where was the pool??? The only pool was kid size, the adult pool was smaller than my truck. The service and food in the Manhattan room the first night was the worst. It did get better on other nights. My wife has limited mobility, not handicap. Trying to find seating at lunch and breakfast was very difficult, too difficult for a cruise. The time moving, very slowly, through the disembarking was way too stressful on her. THIS IS THE LAST TIME I WILL TAKE THIS SHIP!!!!! Taking NCL is questionable, if this is the way they run a ship. We learned a lot on this trip. This was our first big ship experience, and we learned that we definitely like the smaller ships better. We like the feel of the concierge and butler knowing every single person, and them always being there even when you don’t call. Since the Epic is a bigger ship with more Haven suites, you don’t really get that feel as much as you might get it on a Jewel Class ship. We like the feel of the personal service. It’s just impossible to do that with all of those people in The Haven. Another big thing is that the elevators were so busy and in such high demand that it took forever to get one. Even when just going up one deck. Elevators are vital to transport Emily in her wheelchair, and it’s really annoying to have to wait. (And yes we know about The Haven room card slot, but it didn't always work. We liked Bowen the concierge, but didn’t get know him as much as we did Omar last year. Once again, this is simply because Bowen was taking care of too many people to get to know all of them personally. Omar is actually taking over for Bowen in a few weeks, and we cannot believe we missed him! The layout of the Epic is very interesting. It’s the only ship of its kind, as NCL had to cancel the order for her sister ship due to a dispute with the ship builder, STX. It was the only ship that has not been built by Meyer Werft since the Windward in 1993. The view of the outside deck on deck 7 is completely obstructed by life boats. This means that you can’t stand and watch the ocean flow by. There is also no access to an aft facing deck, since the aft is completely filled with aft facing rooms. These are some things that I absolutely love and look for in cruise ship. Sometimes it’s just nice to stand at the aft and watch the calm wake of the ship. The only place you can actually kinda see the wake is at Spice H2O on deck 15, and even then your view is somewhat obstructed. As far as entertainment on board, we loved all of the shows and parties. The Cirque Dreams show was excellent and very entertaining. We also really liked Priscilla Queen of the Desert! I really liked how they had themed parties at night at Spice H2O at the back of the ship where the big screen was. One night they had the 70’s dance party where they played music from the 70’s and everyone from that era danced along. They also held an 80’s dance party. One especially cool party that I did not get a chance to personally attend was the Glow Party where they paint your face and hand out glowing cups and glow sticks. As for service, it was always very fast. Whether we were in the Haven Restaurant, or a specialty restaurant, we always got what we wanted very quickly. I found that this time around the crew wasn’t very welcoming and happy as usual. They kinda seemed burnt out and tired of their jobs. They still did an amazing job. Better than any other cruise line we’ve been on! We had never been to any of the ports of call on this itinerary except for Cozumel. I'd have to say that Grand Cayman was my favorite port because of how beautiful it was. We never felt unsafe or threatened in any of the ports. I don't think we will be booking an itinerary with Great Stirrup Cay anytime soon. We liked it, but it just wasn't as great as it's all hyped up to be. I think that NCL took everything they did wrong on GSC, and fixed it on Harvest Caye. We thought Jamaica was fun too, but probably wouldn't rush back there anytime soon. When booking in The Haven, you get all five Norwegian “Free” at Seas perks. We ended up upgrading the free 1GB of internet to unlimited, and adding 2 additional dining packages so that the other two of us would have it. Only two of us had the Ultimate Drink Package (one of the perks), and that seemed to work out just fine for all of us. We used our shore excursion credit to pay for $50 of the beach club in Jamaica. I know that’s only four, but the friends and family sail free perk did not apply to our sailing. A complaint that we had that had nothing to do with the ship or the cruise line was the loud and rowdy kids in The Haven. I get it, it’s spring break, but after 10 PM it’s just reckless and obnoxious. The people in the suite next door were up yelling, screaming, and blasting music into the late hours of the night. One night we even called security, but they were still really loud. We might have been a little bit petty and banged on the walls at night and in the morning while they were trying to sleep. Disembarkation was FAST! It was within the blink of an eye! I looked at my watch in our stateroom at 7:33, and when we were on the curb at 7:49. 16 minutes. Way to go Norwegian! We also had a little surprise waiting on the curb. We had booked a limo to come pick us up a couple months back. It was so cool! I’ve never been in a limo. It kinda lightened the blow of having to get off the ship. Now that it’s over, we keep doing things like waiting for someone to put napkins across our laps at places like McDonald’s or Olive Garden, and waiting to be escorted to the front of long lines. I even tried to pay with my ship card somewhere! It didn’t work if you didn’t already know. Whoops. Back to reality, am I right? We’re headed home and the Norwegian Epic is headed to Barcelona on a 15 night transatlantic cruise for her summer cruising season. I would like to say a huge thank you to Norwegian Cruise Line for another unforgettable cruise! Even though we don’t have another cruise booked YET, we will definitely be sailing with them again in the near future! Read Less

This was my seventh cruise with NCL and my second on the Epic. I find that every time I travel with NCL my opinion of them decreases. I believe NCL should be advertised as a family and children friendly cruise line and discourage adults without children, or who are not in their 20s from travelling with them. On this trip to the Caribbean there were many unsupervised children - they were throwing food, changing the signage on the cabin doors (to do not disturb so the cabins didn't get made up), swimming in the hot tubs, throwing stuff overboard, and screaming at one another across the balconies, to name a few things. Parents seemed happy to ignore these activities. The 20 year olds weren't much different, getting seriously drunk and screaming at each other, and occupying the hot tubs for hours at time without letting others in. The food was good but on several occasions (especially during breakfast) our orders were incorrect (missing and incorrect food items). Cagney's was quite good though. On the second sea day we were up on deck at 830 and there were no chairs to be had, as people had set there stuff down and even though they did not occupy their seats for hours the did leave their towels on chairs so as to let others know they were theirs. We had the 'free' drinks package which was handy and the bar service was very good. Our cabin was very cramped and I did not like the frosted glass bathroom as it was obvious what was going on in there - and the frosted glass offered little soundproofing. The sink is also in the main cabin which can make washing a bit challenging if travelling with friends. The Epic is not very wheelchair friendly making access to the Taste dining room quite difficult as one of the two sets of elevators does not go to the fifth floor where it is located. Also included in our package was 250 minutes of 'free' wifi. While I thought this would be useful to stay in touch with family, there were so many people on board using wifi that it would take up to 5 minutes for a webpage to load, if it loaded at all. So I image of the time I spent using the wifi plan, I probably spent 20 minutes on the internet, the rest was 'page loading' or 'this page cannot be displayed' time. As we have experienced previously, the customer service from the guest services staff is terrible. There was a charge on our account that we did not make and we went to guest services to address it. The gentleman at guest services was rude and basically said it wasn't his problem. We've had previous problems with NCL guest services, including being yelled at for completing a guest survey they didn't like about the spa services. One of our stops was to Great Stirrup Cay which is an NCL owned island (I assume). We tendered over which took approximately 45 minutes from waiting for the tender, boarding hundreds of people and disembarking. The area was nice but the water was challenging to get around in due to the rocky bottom. Lunch was provided there but the lineup was giant. We did not wait for food but we were told by another guest that he waited 45 minutes for his tacos. The entertainment was okay but as we'd travelled on the cruise before we had seen all of the shows. The Beatles, Burn the floor, Pricilla were all repeats of the cruise we took a year ago. However, Pricilla was still pretty good. I do think they could add a few more games (trivia etc) and perhaps some new shows as there wasn't much going on that didn't require an extra fee. While I have enjoyed NCL over the years, I think it's time to move up to a more adult-friendly cruise line. I am not a big fan of having food thrown at me or listening to screaming children or drunken college kids while on vacation. Read Less

Had a percentage off and decide to go. It was a very noisy trip and the layout was terrible. I use a scooter and picked an accessible cabin near the aft elevators. You cannot get to the dining rooms without going all the way down to the forward elevator and then all the way to the back. Why put a restaurant in the middle of the ship that goes all the way across. The same was true of the casino. Never again. Food was good. As was the entertainment. It was just too noisy. The pools were too crowded. Towels laying everywhere but hardly anyone sitting there. The stewards were ok. Not great. Couldn’t engage in a conversation. 2 days room was never touched. And why does ncl take you to their private island that has no pier???? Those with wheel chairs or scooters could not go ashore. Never ncl again. Read Less

Extra perk offers were not enough to do this cruise again. Mini suit beds are hard and to short even for a 5'11 man feet hung over the bed. NO deck chairs available the entire cruise. People reserving deck chairs very early in the morning even though not used in alot of cases until late morning or early afternoon. NCL di d not enforce the 1 hour reserve chair rule even after complaints from passengers. The food top deck was bad and no change in menue same old same every day. Runny eggs and greesey bacon for breakfast. Long lines top deck for the bar taking as much as 20 minutes to get a drink. Top deck di d not have enough chairs to accommodate the number of people on board. Lounge entertainment was almost non existent except for a guy with a geutair. AS FAR as I'm concerned my wife and I was robbed $3600 for this cruise. NEVER AGAIN! Read Less

We (me 54), husband 56, son 34, and daughter 30. I had read a bunch of negative reviews prior to my cruise. I am happy to report we had a great trip and did not encounter negative attitudes, poor food, and service. We had two rooms. I was in 10272 handicap room and my kids had 10282 and inside. I had little to no wait for elevator (except muster drill). People were friendly and let me in on my walker or mobility scooter. I was known as 'hot rod' from folks we traveled with in elevators. The ship was clean and our room was ok. The only negative for our room was the lack of water pressure. I have long thick hair and it took awhile to rinse. One thing to note in HA room so there is no couch. There is 1 chair at the desk. I sat on my scooter and hubby in the one chair. The balcony was fantastic. It had 2 loungers, 2 chairs, and a table. We are balcony people. We spend quiet a bit of time on the balcony. The kids also came over to hang around on the balcony. We encountered smoke smell twice during cruise. Luckily it did not happen often. I could not tell where the smoking was coming from. We participated in lots of activities and had fun with that. Only once 2 Sea day were it was hard to find chairs. The deck patrol was putting stickers on chairs that remained empty. We happened to be right there when he romoved the items on chairs. We sat down and had a great afternoon. The people never returned. Food was yummy. MKe sure you try the this chicken wings at O'Sheehans. They are addictive. We tried everything on their menu and Ll were very good. If you want the full menu you must sit in the restaurant. At the bar you get pub stuff only which was not an issue for us. We ate all Cagneys, La Bistro, Moderno, and Teppanyaki as our specialty dinners. Cagneys shrimp cocktail was delicious. We all got steaks and they were cooked correctly. La Bistro (just me and hubby-date night) was definitely our favorite dinner of the cruise. We both got onion soup and filet. My husband is not really a desert person. I ordered the cream puffs and chocolate fondue. I gave him one of the three cream puffs. He loved then and asked for the last one also. Next he dove into the fondue and loved that two. He went to town on the deserts. Teppanyaki was fun. We had a good group at our table and the. He's was. Hoot. Everyone's food was delicious and plentiful. Try the Wasabi drink. It is sweet not hot. Moderno was interesting. I am not a huge meat eater but I heard the salad bar was good. I was disappointed that the salad bar had so few options. My family ate LOTS of meat. I like the sirloin and filet. Chicken was good as was the pineapple. I played in the casino every night for a bit. Did not win a thing. Not even enough to play for awhile. I expect to lose the budget I brought, but normally it gives you some things to play on. Burn the Floor was good. Pricilla of the Desert was l o n g. Not my cup of tea. Not the subject matter, just didn't care for show. And yes there were a bunch of kids there even though they announced three times it was not appropriate for kids. Bartenders were friendly and I never had to wait long for drink. We do tip $1 per drink. Not because we have to, but because they are working hard. You will enjoy the ship and all it has to offer. The entertainment onboard the Epic is the BEST at sea!! Production shows, musician, and variety of entertainment are all amazing!!! The staff is also wonderful... very attentive, helpful and friendly. The ship's layout is very poor. There is no mid-ship elevator... and either end elevator is missing at least one floor, meaning you frequently have to walk from one end of the ship to the other to take the elevator to your destination. For anyone with any difficulty walking the 1000+ feet length of the ship (as is the case with my mom), this ship is VERY difficult to navigate. Embarkment: Port Canaveral doesn't have any wheelchairs available until you've already gone through security (read: long line standing and waiting), and walked the length of the entire terminal and gone through your registration process... THEN you can get a wheelchair to board. Food: The only specialty restaurant we dinned at was Shanghai's... the service was great, the food was marginal at best. The buffet was loud, crowded, and food was average to poor. BUT... we ate MANY means in The Manhattan Club and O'Sheenahan's. Service in both of these restaurants was great and the food in Manhattan Club was spectacular!!! Plus they have live music, a dance floor and avery quiet/upscale atmosphere. Taste serves the exact same menu as Manhattan club, but is less formal. Taste is also much louder and we didn't enjoy it as much. The outdoor dinning was impossible to enjoy because there was always so much wind up there. One morning we ate there, and the wind blew the coffee out of the cup!!! Breakfast ANYWHERE on the ship is marginal at best, and basically is over at 9 or 9:30am. There is a large 'gab' mid-day when the only place to dine is O'Sheenahan's (but their food is great). Entertainment: DON'T MISS Burn The Floor!!! It is amazing!! Also the dueling pianos in Howl at the Moon were great!! Priscilla Queen of the Desert was a hoot, with amazing costumes, wigs, music, etc... but it is NOT for those who are easily offended. Cirque Dreams was a wonderful show, but the food was poor. Buy the standard ticket & skip the meal. DO try to take part in the activities in the atrium... game shows, dance lessons, singing contests, etc. At first I thought this was silly and didn't want to go... but once I DID, I wished I'd gone sooner! The staff makes these shows amazing! Plan on attending the "GLOW PARTY"... it is REALLY FUN!!! No matter your age, you'll find it a real trip. Also, this is the first ship I've been on that specifically made accommodations to help single travelers meet fellow passengers. Stateroom: We were in a Family Balcony Mini-suite. The room was quite large and has TONS of storage!! We put everything away and still had several empty cupboards!!! The bathroom wasn't as bad as I thought it might be... BUT our 'shower' was in a tub and it had a VERY high side (much higher than yours at home would). VERY difficult to get in and out of. The balcony was large but the chairs were in poor shape, and one was broke, plus only table there was a tiny little side table... not room to eat there. The hallways are a bit confusing, but what ship isn't? Some other thoughts: Additional charges: THIS was one of the real bug-a-boos on this cruise... I felt like I was being nickle and dimed to death!!!! The beauty of cruising is it's all inclusive... not with Norwegian! Even the "complementary" restaurants have menu items that require an 'up charge'. And of course, there are about half the restaurants that are specialty and require an additional charge. PLUS... if you want a Pepsi (they don't have Coke) anywhere, be prepared to pay! I hate the way they bill the gratuity, daily/per person on the bill. It makes your bill VERY lengthy and it felt like every time I looked at it it was another page long!! Many of the onboard 'activities' required an additional charge, and even the Cirque Dreams show (without the meal) requires an additional charge. AND... although they sell this as 'free style cruising'... you must make a reservation to do anything!!! I understand that with 4000+ people on the ship, but it really removes any option for being spontaneous. Also... there is no central atrium... no mid-ship elevator... and the elevators that are there, are totally enclosed and dark!!! When I saw the first one open, I felt like I was stepping into an elevator in Las Vegas in 1980! Overall the ship's entertainment and staff were AMAZING and in many ways made up for the defects of the ship itself. However I doubt I would take Epic again... the ship was too big and had too many people on board. Read Less

Our daughter has cruised this ship before and liked it. Liked the restaurants and entertainment. Did not like the smoky casino. Also, the elevator nearest us did not go to 5th floor. This was a major inconvenience. Would like to try another ship out of Port Canaveral. Shore excursion folks could not help us in determining if excursions would accept a disabled person. Guest services did not know about access on shore excursions. This disability office did not help either. After docking at Cozumel we discovered we could have done an excursion after all. Visited the spa services of acupuncture and massage/mini facial. Appreciated the special prices on port day. We saw the Newlywed Game, Cirqe, Priscilla: Queen of the desert, Burn the floor and musician/illusionist. Enjoyed all of them. Liked the evening music by Ben. Major complaint was the casino. It smells so bad and and makes the other floors smell, too. Read Less

We went on the Epic and unlike most of the other smaller ships this ships layout was bad and no conducive to travel around the ship. The casino allowed smoking which could be smelled in a restaurant and venues. The shops were in the middle of the ship and when a lot of people were shopping it did not allow people to flow by to get from one end to the ship to the other. You had to go thru the shops. On the pool deck when they were performing and people gathering to listen or dance again you could not get around all the people standing there. For a disabled person it was not very good getting around. The staterooms layout was so bad it is hard to explain. The bathroom toilet was in one section and the shower was on the other side. A curtain was provided, and doors to close off. I could not go out in the balcony without waking up my wife. there was no curtain to segregate the room. The Stewart was great along with the boss which helped out a lot. Read Less

We really loved NCL's Epic. It is huge. We had an accessible mini-suite which was huge and so comfortable. The balcony was extra-large too. It had two chairs plus a lounge chair. In fact, one day when it was very windy and cloudy, I sat on the lounge chair reading and catching rays. There is so much to do on this ship. Entertainment, restaurants, and just plain fun. The Svedka Ice Bar is so worth the cost. It was $28/per (includes taxes and gratuities). You get two drinks but best of all you get to spend a freezing half hour in one of only 18 ice bars and the only ice bar on the ocean. It was very a lot of fun. Everything (other than floor and ceiling) is made of ice. It was 11 degrees fahrenheit when we were there. At night, everything is wiped down with vodka because it doesn't freeze and it makes everything smooth. The ice sculpture, chairs and bar are replaced every 8 months and they come from Orlando. If you go, wear long pants and closed toe shoes, but definitely go. We ate at Cagney's Steakhouse, La Cucina, and Tepenyaki. All were very good. Cagney's was probably my favorite. The only negative was how disorganized the shore excursions were. We did two planned shore excursions and both starting times were pushed back several hours. This meant less time on the beach for us and this was very disappointing. Also, the meeting place and time was very unorganized also. It didn't really seem that anyone knew what they were doing. You also had to have tender reservations which is fine but some people had to have the tender reservations in order to get off the ship to get to their shore excursion and assumed that their reservation was included in shore excursion. There were many, many unhappy people at guest services on those days. We later found out that the ship was short staffed. Regardless, all of the staff were so friendly and fun that it really made up for that. All in all, we really had a great time and would cruise on the Epic again. Read Less
