Hello. I was looking for a cruise to wind down and relax. However the cruise was a tornado of dysfunctional proportions by the cruise line. I get to the window and give them my passports. They ask for my room number. I offer it. The lady says, no the room number on the website is not your room. The supervisor female comes over and says they double booked us. Here is our number to our room. They gave us 2 sets of keys Incase (liability) all day long. We tried our room number from the website a gentleman and his female were in the room. He got angry with me from entering. Clearly NCL screwed up. Days 1,2,5 we had a toilet not working. I called days 1 & 2 to fix it. On day 2 the toilet comes out of the wall. I called guest services no answer, I tried again, finally someone answered. I said “didn’t you guys put the toilet back on after fixing it” I had charges from this other couple on my bill. I had photos on my card of this same other couple. On the day we were supposed to leave, I never got a letter that affords my group to be taken to Miami airport. Went down to the desk asked for the letter. The room number on the letter was different.... again. Plus all the charges on my bill were someone else. By fighting when them days 1,2,5 I was mentally exhausted by 8 pm. I had anxiety from the stress and my grandmother so angry. My grandmother has been on lots of cruises but this one was beyond her comprehension. I asked for a full refund. I didn’t enjoy at all. It didn’t live up to the amount I paid. The food was OK like a upscale Disney Park. The people working on the boat always smiling and exceptional. But no one has authority. Even when this guy hit me. No one took a interest in my concerns or safety despite writing in the comment box. And NCL never responded to my email. So. I would not recommend NCL Dawn. In good faith I was looking for a apologize. Don’t know if I will ever get it. The toilet came out of the wall bruised my leg. Just a really bad time. Read Less

we had had very good comments on this cruise line from family members and it was suppose to be a little more fancy than our only other cruise which was with Carnival Victory (it was very enjoyable although the ship ran low on breakfast meats on the last day). This was to be a very special cruise our first with just us and we planned to redo our vows for our 20th anniversary. Embarkation day we probably should have seen what was to come as my wife dropped me off at the dock with our luggage and left to go park the car and got sideswiped by a taxi enroute barely making it back in time to board. Boarding was great as soon as they saw I had a cane they got me a wheelchair and a steward pushed me through the building onto the ship. Three hours before we could get into our room and no swimsuits with us in our carry on. Most of the bars were closed. we had to go to one end of the ship for the 911 drill and then the other end to get into our room. 1st I knew that the room was inside and there would be no window what I didnt know was it was basically a closet with a bed. The refrigerator "mini-bar" was warm and the few bottles in there looked really old rusty tops and the like and the fridge didnt and hadn't worked for quite a while. We had bought a 12 pk of bottled water (not even spring water) 12ltrs for $33 (I wont even buy liquor at those prices). So after the first round of Bacardi and coke @$25 we went to see what it would cost to add the drink package it was around $300 when we were planning the cruise and we weren't expecting the prices to be this high. We were then taken aback at the new price quote of $700. So even if we wanted we didnt have capability because we were now on the card locked in for shipboard charges and it was only clear for $500 and we couldn't get more money as atm was broken at the time. So on we go signing every time we wanted a drink. The bars we're pretty sure charged different prices for the same drink no proof though. The buffet was mediocre at best nothing like what we had on carnival carving stations not there (oh they had one to cut up a 4ft sub) even golden corral had better options. The Japanese steakhouse left us wishing for a Kobe food wasn't great and the bar closed before our dinner was 1/2 done no more sake! the Brazilian steakhouse food was pretty good...when we finally got some 30 min wait for the meat as they were feeding the captain and friends. The bistro French restaurant the shining star in their crown awesome food and service they were what we expected from all of their meals. Dont ask any staff onboard where something is they dont know but will tell you somewhere even if they dont know. We didnt know there was a smoking section on deck 7 till the last day and found that out from other smokers. My wife is allergic to lime and dont you know they always brought her drink with one even after being told not to. It seemed every turn we were being nickel and dimed. My wife went for bingo and came back later told me it cost her $60 to play including the pull tab lottery tickets she got talked into. They had a "shopping class" that was just a diamond broker telling you to buy at their store on the island. (the satellite was down on the island so not too much sold there as no credit cards worked. The next stop it rained monsoon style for 2 hours as we tried in vain to get to the taxi stand to get to our excursion so no massage for us. all this time I'm not sleeping because my bad back cant take the worn out mattress I fall asleep sitting up a 1/2 hour at a time. my wife asked at customer service the night before leaving what tag to put on our luggage the response "your already too late it should have been out a 1/2 hour ago. never told her which tag. On the first stop I asked about using a wheelchair they said I could rent one for $150 for the cruise but it cant leave the ship (we couldn't have even got to our room hallway always cluttered.) oh and we had heard the Irish pub had good wings so we stopped in twice the first time we never did get waited on. the second time we got there and my back spasmed so we sat at a table and were told in a rude voice we had to get a hostess to seat us. we went to the bar and sat 5 guests at the bar all got served we sat there for 30 min before the bartender finally acknowledged us at all and when we ordered our drinks we asked for some wings he wouldn't take our food order we finally flagged down a server who ordered them for us and with the poor service and all they just weren't good enough to make us want to come back. The whole cruise kind of ruined our reaffirmation and all those great memories we should have. Sad I could have done Carnival for the same money and had a huge balcony room with a drink package and great food and buffets. Maybe next cruise. Read Less

5 Day Caribbean Cruise on NCL Dawn First let me say we had a wonderful cruise. Staff was very attentive to cruisers needs. Embarkation went very smoothly. We were able to get a nice sit down lunch in the main dining room. We know that the ship had undergone a dry dock refurbishment. The Venetian Dining room was now decorated with paintings with beautiful frames but the art work was very strange. Seems the artist who no one knew his name purposely defaced his own art. The service was good and the food was good as well. Once we were finished with lunch we were able to go to our cabin and unpack. Our bags arrived quickly and were placed by our door. We actually had everything unpacked before the life boat drill. We had placed a list of special requests on our king size bed for the room steward. Unfortunately the steward never stopped by to introduce himself and we didn’t see him till around 7:30pm, which is very usual. This is the first time this has ever happened to us. We needed distilled water for our c-pap machine, 2 blankets , 2 bathrobes and glasses for the bathroom. Entertainment was very good. We were glad to see Mona from the Cruise staff. She remembered us from our previous sailings on the Dawn. She and her other cruise staff workers were a lot of fun. Staff treated passengers like royalty. Really enjoyed the Trivia Games. Prizes were given out on the last evening. Disappointed with the choices. They did not even have a sign up for what you could get and how many signatures you needed for each item. The guy that was supposed to award the prizes arrived approximately 15 minutes late was was obviously not prepared. Our Meet and Greet Party that I set up for our small group of 20+ cruisers was well attended. Because of the time change and the of moving to Central Time 2 cruisers missed the party, but approx 20 attended. NCL sent at least 8 senior staff members including the cruise director, Luz. Shirlyn, the group coordinator, did an excellent job setting up the party in Le Bistro. There was coffee and tea urns along with delicious pastries. She even printed up Cruise Critic stick on labels. NCL puts on the best Cruise Critic Parties. It is a shame that the Cruise Critic website has changed so much for the worse making it harder to find your sailing. Our group would have had a much larger Roll Call had they not made it so difficult to find our roll call site. I dislike the changes they made to the web site. You no longer can see your previous posts from previous sailings nor can you create a count down clock. Even NCL Dawn said that they had not had a Meet and Greet Party in the past 6 sailings and they were wondering if the site was shut down. One of our roll call members, Mike L, offered to have a farewell party in his Owner’s Suite on the last sea day. He had the most spectacular cabin in the forward part of the ship. Once again the time changed and am not sure if it led to the small turn out. We still had fun. Mike had platters of hot food, sandwiches and cocktails and Frank Sinatra singing in the background creating a wonderful warm feeling with his beautiful patios and luxurious suite. A word about the steakhouse, Gatsbys. It has gone way down in quality, but still had good service. Debarkation also went smoothly. Thanks to Shirlyn, group services coordinator, she supplied my husband and myself 2 wheelchairs and pushers to our cabin to help us get off the ship. I had injured my leg toward the end of the cruise and could not walk. Shirlyn, was my hero! Read Less

I booked NCL Dawn to try a different NCL ship. I had been on the NCL Bliss and NCL Sky before this one. Bliss being one of the newest and Sky being one of the oldest. The Dawn has had a recent refurb, but I do not believe that included the guest rooms, just the public areas. The ships pool is VERY small. Being a larger ship than the Sky it has half the pool that the Sky does. Food was average, some good dishes and some not-so good. I think the on-board entertainment (bands, shows, etc...) was top-notch. I enjoyed Harvest Cay in Belize. I went on a fishing excursion, and spent the time afterwards wondering the island, the beach, and the fresh water pool. I drank some Belize local beer, and found the Island clean, and well managed. We hit some high winds on our second day at sea, and it was certainly making walking around the deck difficult, but not impossible. I found some amazing crew members, and some need either more training or a break (they seem tired and non-guest centered). Overall it was a good cruise, and I would repeat. I really liked Bamboo (comp dinner option) it also has some items you can upgrade with a cost. I like this option compared to a place with only upgraded options. Read Less

I rated my experience as “poor” due to the lack of quality customer service and resolution. I just came back from Norwegian Dawn porting from Miami and it was by far an unenjoyable experience. This is not my first cruise; however, it was with this cruise line and I will not be back nor, will I be referring anyone. The onboard staff was not helpful in resolving issues that arise while at sea. The staff at the desk was defensive and argumentative to not only me but other guest. I simply inquired about the drink package both myself and my travel partner paid for prior to sailing directly through Norwegian Dawn website. We selected the package that included wifi, drinks, and excursions that were listed along with the special totaling 915 dollars per person. Mind you the advertised price is starting at 115 dollars on the site. Upon boarding we went to the front desk to inquire about how this package would work now being on board. The Guest Service Member was unprofessional and discourteous from the very start of the conversation and rudely told us we did not have the added amenities that we were under the impression we had. We provided documentation to the Guest Service Member and he still refused to honor it and proceeded to tell us he can add a package on for an ADDITIONAL $600.00 PER PERSON! That is beyond ridiculous when we have already purchased the package directly from your website that you are refusing to honor. If the employee would have possessed the skill set needed working in the customer service industry, customer resolution would have been important to helping. Instead we were offered a $50 credit from a staff member that was on SHORE not any resolution from aboard the ship but “Sorry”. Sorry?! For the amount of money spent and expectation that was falsely set, sorry? Then being treated as if we should move along. In addition, to the rude customer service and lack thereof, the food options were not in comparison to other cruises I have been on. Very little vegan options requiring more money to be spent when arriving at the designated destinations to make up for the lack of vegan options. All of this combined with the amount of money I spent to get from Virginia to Miami and what influx came once aboard the ship that was handled poorly made me feel more like a way to get money rather than treating me as a customer. My trip was not worth the money that was spent and I am upset that I spent as much money as I did with the turnout being poor due to Norwegian Dawn being unable to treat their customers with QUALITY customer service. My travel mate and I traveled as veterans of the military that wanted to get away for a peace of mind and relaxation and received the complete opposite. I would not recommend this cruise line to any nor would i cruise with them ever again. What a horrific experience this was. Read Less

So many issues with our cruise with NCL on the Dawn to Belize and Mexico .. Issues started pre cruise with cabin changes without notice. Than once onboard the issues continued, 1st occurrence was the steward throwing out a case of water and Gatorade that was brought onboard with no issues . Than another issue we had happened before our port of call which was Belize, apparently their was a medical emergency that happened where we had to stop in Key West without any notification, the only reason we found out was that we were delayed by almost 4 hours getting into Belize which cut our time in port short. The port that NCL owns in Belize is nothing but a resort area minus hotels .. To get to excursions you would have to go far away from the port which no one had time for since the time in port was cut down to almost half. Disembarkment for Belize was a mess and disaster and people were waiting around in stairways and hallways by the gang plank cause their wasnt any communications and people were eager to get off the boat . The frustration of this trickled down to the staff also which caused dinning service to suck. The options for food on the boat were very limited also, barely any seafood was served except for salmon, tilapia, and shrimp ... everything else was mainly pork, beef or chicken and all were either overly cooked and dry or way too much salt . Dining service in an empty restaurant took almost an out to get breakfast to our table once ordered and this happend twice at the Venetian restaurant.. So other options were aqua or the buffet which served the same food Everything on this boat was nicked and dimed and than when we checked out account we were being charged daily gratuities for everything even though we had prepaid for it all included our beverage package . We also ventured off and tried Bamboo which is their Asian themed restaurant... 1st issue was the hostess, she was very stuck up and not approachable and seemed like we were bothering her. Than the food ... we basically ordered almost every item on the menu for our party if 7 and let's just say out of all the dishes only 2 were good (spring rolls and chicken Kung pao) even the dessert sucked at this place .. Everyone was so eager to get off the boat to get good food in port ... now that's saying something . Now onto entertainment or lack of it ... been on other cruise lines and enjoyed the entertainment which happened on a daily basis ... here on NCL Dawn ??? Not so much .... the main shows only happend on 1 night of the cruise and other nights were filled in with the cheesy game shows or bingo. Now the most important issue which is a medical one totally turned me off completely... so you all know that when you go into the buffet areas to eat .. they force their washy washy hand spray which caused a allergic reaction on my hand... and knew it was an allergic reaction because it not only happened to me but others had the same reaction ... so whatever is in that WASHY washy hand wash bottle needs to be looked at and reconsidered. A week later on benadryl and cortisone hand creme its finally starting to go away but damage has been done and left a mark on the reaction site and my feelings towards NCL .. First time ever where I couldn't wait to get off the boat and basically ran off of it. Read Less

I can’t complain much. This is my 3rd Norwegian cruise and 6 overall. I’ve been on the escape in 2017 and the sky in 2012. The escape by far was the best. The bathroom toilet on the Dawn smelt terrible the whole time. The bathroom were the toilet was, was very tight. I’m not a huge person either. I had 2 specialty dining package when I booked. Ate at los labos and cagneys steakhouse. The steakhouse was great. Los labos is an acquired taste if you love Mexican dishes. I also paid extra for modernos which was really good and worth a try as well. I had free house drinks through the casino the whole cruise. I booked a “free cruise” through the casino here in Maryland. Still had to pay taxes. This was a good beginner cruise for someone who wants to see what cruising is about. I feel like almost a veteran cruiser now except haven’t been on Royal Caribbean yet lol. 5 day cruise from Miami. Stopping at Belize I think this small island is owned by ncl. Then stopping at costa maya Mexico. I’ve been to both of these places on the escape. Read Less

We arrived at noon to embark and due to the volume of people, we had to make a line for emigration and it took us about an hour and a half to embark. Our first dining experience took place at the Venetian restaurant. We had a good experience due the service and food quality. After our lunch, we received an induction on the safety instructions which are mandatory by an international regulation. On the second day we went through a bad experience because we found bed bugs on both of our beds which we reported to customer service. Mr. Cardenas made immediate arrangements for the appropriate personnel to revise our room and we were moved to another room. Our luggage was taken by the staff as a percussion for laundry and steam cleaning for which we remained without our belongings until the following day. I suffered stomach flu with nausea and diarrhea during that night. I visited the medical center which prevented me from going to the excursion. The doctor ordered confinement with a special diet during 24 hours and I spent all Friday in my room. I wanted to watch TV all day and I discovered that there is a very limited channel selection which includes only one movie channel. I discovered that on the main menu of the TV there was an option for pay per view channels ($10.00) which in an air plane would easily be included on the fare. The lack of movie selection and the fact that I had to pay per view was frustrating and inconvenient. When my mother and her friend were able to go to the excursion that day and their experience was not the best because there was lack of guidance and they did not know where they had to take the bus to the Chacchoben Mayan Ruins. There was a lot of people and thy were going to different places so due to the lack of guidance it seem very confusing. We received the Freestyle Daily informational bulletin and we observed that some events are indicated as free but once you arrive, it is indicated that there is a cost to participate on them. We had the opportunity to visit the Garden Cafe, Venetian, Aqua and Bamboo which had variety and good service. The swimming pool was very small like a jacuzzi and there were so many people there that it was impossible to approach. The room service staff was friendly and professional as well as the waiters and buffet personnel and the customer service desk this made us feel well.We disembarked very early in the morning after breakfast and it was very organized. . This was my first time cruising with Norwegian. The food was tasty most of the time, though the service was a bit slow, especially in the 24-hour pub-style dining facility. I enjoyed the number of amenities and entertainment options. Most of the staff were very friendly and helpful, particularly the housekeepers and servers in the restaurants. I was caught off guard that most of the "seminars" turned out to be sales pitches. I attended a seminar on improving your posture, but it just turned out to be a sales tool to sell Good Feet inserts. I thought we would actually learn tips to enhance our posture, but just received a pushy sales lecture instead... The gym was nice, though. Enough machines and free weights to get a decent workout. The number of hot tubs was great, too. Overall, everyone was friendly, aside from Viviano in guest services who insulted me. Offering strawberries for nights of lost sleep due to a faulty water pump in my cabin was and still is unacceptable. Norwegian has yet to acknowledge the issue on social media, so my negative reviews still stand. Read Less

Unfortunately the overall service on this cruise was poor. The bartenders on both pool deck bars seemed to always be in a bad mood and overworked. If you asked them anything that was not a drink order it was greeted with an eye roll and sigh. Dinners in both main dining rooms, Aqua and Venetian, took extremely long. Other parties of similar size would come in after us and leave before us. While at dinner there were appetizers and/or entrees that were never brought, I had to order coffee 3 times before actually receiving it, we had to flag a random employee down each time we needed more water, and when I would order a drink they would bring 2 of what the person next to me ordered rather than what I ordered. Regretfully, this was not a onetime occurrence, it happened any time we ate in the main dining rooms (breakfast or dinner) except for the very last night. At the Irish Pub, we were seated and waited 20 minutes before anyone approached us. We ordered 1 drink and never saw our server again. We flagged down the hostess and said we wanted to order another round and were told “your server is on their way and will be right there”. He never spoke with our server and the server never came back. After waiting another 20 minutes we just decided to leave. There were also too many smoking areas in my opinion. The chairs on the pool deck with the best views were right next to The Bimini Bar and Grill where everyone was smoking, despite the “No Smoking” signs posted on each table and the bar itself. This was my first cruise, I had heard that Norwegian Cruise Lines were superior to Carnival and Royal Caribbean, so I was truly looking forward to it. The attitude of the staff and the lack of any customer care/service really ruined the experience for me. Read Less

I hate to leave such an awful review but those traveling on the NCL Dawn must be made aware, at least so their expectations are not too high. We stayed in a balcony Mini-Suite. Decent size room, bathroom had a bathtub which is great for kids, big closet. Those are the pros. Now for the cons: Carpet was smelly, my closet smelled so bad, I even had to wash the clothes I didn't wear when I got home. Bring antibacterial wipes to clean your closet shelves, maybe that will help. Warning, if you're a light sleeper, you will not sleep. The tub door kept swaying and slamming back and forth and I could hear everyone pacing back and forth and even coughing next door. Now for the staff. This is no Disney. They are very cold and cut throat. We were trying to squeeze in dining reservations cause the main (complimentary) dining was so bad (cold food, very rude staff, and took over an hour to serve us) and instead of politely saying there was nothing available they were rude. Like they didn't want to work that day. Maybe they were sea sick. They need training so they know how to make someone feel ok with the word "no". Something like "I'm so sorry ma'am, but we have nothing available." would be nice or even to act like you are trying to see what you can do. Instead they tell you Bluntly "Nothing available. Sorry". Their fast, cold response left me thinking "did you even look, cause you didn't even touch your keyboard". The complimentary dining would take 20 minutes to take our order, and then 40 minutes to bring our entrée. We ate COLD STEAK! so sad. I am sure we just had bad luck but this was awful and I hope no one else experiences this. Read Less

We had a wonderful first cruise experience! Our cabin had an outside partially obstructed view. It was very nice, the lifeboat was low and we could see out the whole window. Our family of four fit well on the queen, trundle and fold down beds, but they were all pretty uncomfortable. We took small collapsible luggage, that helped a lot. There is a closet, shelves and a few small drawers. The layout of the ship was VERY confusing, as many others have said. The refurbishment was very nice and we didn't have any trouble with plumbing or any other age of the vessel issues. Our Steward kept us stocked with fresh towels, ice and a clean room. We bought the soda package for the kids, not sure that it was worth it for us. The lemonade in the Garden Cafe was very good as well as the coffee. Other than that, my husband and I stuck to water. The dinners were delicious, we ate at only complimentary restaurants. The menu was slightly tweaked daily to give a nice variety. Service overall was efficient, but we found O'Sheehans to be very slow. The main pool was crowded, and we frequently couldn't find a chair. The pool side ice cream was one of our favorite treats, especially on days they had coconut ice cream. Our kids enjoyed the kids pool and slides, we spent most of our pool time there. The furniture is all kid sized, but it worked fine. Our kids went once to Splash Academy and really disliked it. They said the Staff was "mean". They asked to not go back. Our biggest disappointment was that there was no beach at the port in Costa Maya. There was a beautiful shoreline to view, but no ocean access. If I were to do it again, I would book a beach excursion or take a cab down to Mahahual. The port pool, however, was large and we enjoyed cooling off there. The markets and shops as well as the rest of the port had an "Epcot" feel to them. Not authentic, but nice nonetheless. We took in a few nightly shows and the whole family enjoyed them! We have younger kids and found the atrium and hallways noise to be pretty excessive, even well past midnight. We were just down the hall from O'Sheehans, I do think a lot of our noise was from our location. Embarktation was a bit chaotic and slow, Norwegian said they were having network system outages. We did the self assist disembark and were off the ship by 8:30am - very smooth process. Overall, a great trip! Read Less

This was our first time cruising with Norwegian and it was a disaster. We decided to go on the Dawn the day after our wedding so we booked a suite and brought 38 of our friends and family on board. When we entered the terminal, we were brought back to the priority boarding area since we had a suite. When we entered, we were offered refreshments but were never told about any of the VIP perks to being in a suite. When the gentlemen gathered the group to take us to our room, he was walking 20 feet ahead of us and didn't show us around the ship or offer any suggestions. The next day, we had booked a couples massage since one of our friends bought us a gift card to the spa. When we showed up to the spa, they placed us in the relaxing area and didn't come in for over 20 minutes. Then when someone did show up, they indicated they didn't have the couples room available and that they had to split us up. My husband decided to go in but I wanted to reschedule for another day. I was so disappointed that we didn't get to experience it together....I mean it is part of our honeymoon! Also, when we booked our cruise they gave us a credit for an offshore excursion so we booked the catamaran with our group and they cancelled the morning of so it was to late to try to book anything else with our group and I guess the credit was wasted since we didn't use it. As the cruise continued, we noticed the staff wasn't friendly and we had no idea that we could have taken advantage of VIP seating for all their entertainment shows, VIP breakfast and lunches and the list goes on. When I made the complaint to guest relations, they indicated there were letters in our suite indicating these benefits but we were so busy with our 38 guests on board that we didn't have time to sit and read all the letters. This should have been discussed in our pre-board meeting. Other issues include backed up toilets, a piece of small plastic found in my husband's BLT, gluten items sent up to the suite when I requested weeks prior to the cruise gluten free items. All the food they sent up the first two days ended up in the trash. I was so very disappointed with this cruise and will never take the chance to cruise with them again. We have gone on a few Royal Caribbean cruises and the service and attention to detail is A PLUS. And the saddest thing of all is this was our wedding cruise and it was the most frustrating vacation we have ever had. Won't be sailing with them again. Read Less

I was looking for a quick getaway that was affordable with my daughter and I over school break. We wanted to leave from Miami for the ports we were interested in which were Belize and Costa Maya in Mexico. When booking our cruise we were recommended in having our flights included and was reassured that they were responsible in getting you there. However, that did not happen. We did the online checkin, as well as, bags the night before but when we arrived at the PVD airport on Friday at 4:00 am I was told our United flight was delayed due to the flight crew being tired. The only flight available was a 10:00 am at LaGuardia so we were put in a taxi, hit traffic and missed that flight even with 15 minutes to spare but could not board due to bags not checked quick enough. We were rebooked to a later flight which missed out departure in Miami. Now the goal was to get to the first port which was Belize. We are rebooked on a flight to Houston where they put us up at the Hilton Doubletree which was awesome for short notice. Saturday, we depart for an 9:47 flight but were delayed again due to United needed more documentation to support my daughters passport for the international flight to Belize(which was not needed). We miss the next flight and are booked for the 1:15 to Belize City. We arrive through immigration and all passports are fine. We did not need the notarized documents for my daughter to be in Belize. Then, get on a passenger plane to Placencia. They put us up at Roberts Grove Hotel for a night to continue to our destination which was Harvest Caye. Sunday, we get a shutte to take us to Thunderbird Marina where we take a ferry to Harvest Caye. However, they would not let us get on the ferry because no one was notified of this change. So we are delayed again. Finally, we are able to get on the 9.00 am ferry where we meet immigration on Harvest Caye. We had to wait for the ship to dock and then return to checkin before enjoying our day at Harvest Caye. We are detained by Norwegian guest services. We were brought through the crew quarters and treated like criminals. We were ignored while staff checked our documents and staff was eating lunch while we waited. We asked how much longer we had to wait and were responded to rudely. After an hour and a half of checkin...we were brought to our room. The room was nice! It was a balcony and would recommend for more room. However, there was a restaurant above which created a lot of noise and chaos. Luckily we did not spend much time in our room. Food was good! Pretty consistent to our previous cruise a year ago on the Breakaway! Staff was very nice in Garden Café, not the chefs so much. I did not feel the ship could accommodate all those people with 1 pool available as well as deck chairs. Unless you got up at 6 am to reserve your chair, you were not getting one. We were unable to book shore excursions due to us missing the first 2 days. As for the rest of the cruise, we made the best of it! No one came up to us throughout the rest of our stay to apologize for the error! No responsibility taken or reimbursement for our trip. Disembarkation was horrible, as to meet at the Bamboo restaurant at 6:30 because we came in midcruise. We supposed to depart at 8:40 so we sat on a shuttle for an hour and a half. Then brought to the airport! Guest Services was rude with the departure and could care less about how our trip was! Read Less

Our cruise was great. We had not been on a cruise for several years so it felt like a new experience again. We had a balcony cabin on the 10th floor and it was very nice. Everything was very clean and kept in good condition. Our housekeeper was Etna and she was spot on. Very helpful. Food was very good.Plenty of activities happening all the time. The shows were very entertaining . We took 2 great excursions. the first was in Harvest Caye Belize with the Catch and Release excursion. Worth, Rudy and Sterling were all super guys! We caught tons of fish, nothing big but lots of yellow tails, a couple small groupers and many others. The brought us water and delicious fruit cups for snacks. It was a quick ride to our fishing spot so we had plenty of time fishing and they kept our hooks baited and took fish off just as fast as we could bring them in. Fun trip! In Costa Maya Mexico we tok an excursion with a local company called The Native Choice. They were also fantastic. Ron, Alondra and Tacho were our guides. the were entertaining and informative. We did the Mayan Ruins Extreme tour, I am not certain if i am remembering the name correctly, but we went to the ruins on a very nice air-conditioned large passenger van, took the tour had plenty of time to look around. Alondra knows all there is to know about them. The afterwards drove about 20 minute to this very nice resort where they had such prepared with real Mexican tacos and all you wanted to drink ready for us. plenty of shaded lounge chairs . Great swimming and Kayaks that we could use for free. All in all it was a great trip! Read Less

This was our first Norwegian cruise after sailing twice on Carnival and wanting something different. We sailed during "Spring break season" for us New Englanders, so prices were higher than we had experienced in the past on Carnival, so I personally had high expectations for everything on this 5-day Western Caribbean ship. We booked our flight through the NCL Air promotion. We had a difficult experience getting to the ship, as our first flight with American Airlines was delayed and subsequently cancelled the morning of the cruise. After contacting the airline and Norwegian's Emergency Air Hotline and discovering they couldn't get us on any other flight, we had to decide to last minute drive to NYC (3.5 hours getting into the city during rush hour) and incur a $250 parking fee which we had not planned for. I was very worried about parking and getting through security at the airport so we didn't look into other options. Thankfully, security was quick and we had an hour before boarding. We dealt with our return flight later on in the cruise, as the AA rep said she did not want to alter an existing reservation that morning, before we boarded our flight to Miami. NOTE: EVEN IF YOU BOOK AIR THROUGH NORWEGIAN, GUEST SERVICES ON SHIP WILL NOT MAKE NEW ARRANGEMENTS FOR YOU/BE EMPATHETIC OR KIND. When we spoke to them about fixing our return flight, they first of all did not understand our problem (our return flight was now to a different airport where our car was not parked) and insisted our return flight was not cancelled (yes, we know!). Then, once they understood the problem they said the only thing they could do is email American Airlines and wait for a response in the morning (What? It's an airline. They're open all the time. *eye roll*). The representative also said that we "should have come to guest services sooner to address the problem" (this was the second to last day, and when I spoke to the American Airlines rep they said we would have no problem even doing it the day we returned to Miami). I asked the NCL rep, "so you're saying this whole problem is our fault and you won't help us?" "No, ma'am, that's not what I'm saying." OKAY. Whole experience left a bad taste in our mouth. Rep was rude, condescending, and un-empathetic which are exactly the things you should not be as a customer service agent. I believe this was a supervisor. I will say there was another Guest Services rep who chased after us to understand our problem correctly and make the email, which was nice. Basically, all in all we had to take an hour of our own time out of our vacation to call the Airline and make the appropriate arrangements ourselves, even though we booked the flights through Norwegian. Maybe I'm foolish, but I thought they would handle that for you if you booked through them. Anyway, moving on! THE SHIP 5/5: The ship itself was very nice. We have only cruised on some of the older Carnival ships with the tacky Vegas-style decor, so this was a nice change. I really did like the style and decor of the ship throughout. It was a little hard to navigate at first, but we learned quickly. OUR CABIN 4/5: We originally booked interior but won an upgrade for oceanview with a nice large picture window. This was new for us, and we loved it! We did experience our light going out in the shower on the 3rd day, which was fixed by the next day after telling our steward. Steward also left several empty drinks in the room for a whole day without taking them. Maybe he didn't see them... not sure, but had never experienced that before. DINING 3/5: I thought the food in the free dining areas was okay-good. First meal at O'Sheehan's after boarding left me perplexed: I ordered fajitas and received no plate on which to make them, and received huge strips of meat that were way too big for fajitas. However, they tasted good. First night in Venetian was best meal in MDR, I got bruschetta, caesar salad, chicken milanese, and a sea salt caramel chocolate tart which was out of this world good. However, on other nights, the MDR dinner menus just didn't speak to me. For the rest of the cruise when I sat down to look at the menu I had a hard time deciding because nothing jumped out at me (never remember experiencing this on Carnival). We were very impressed with specialty dining, however. Los Lobos was the highlight of our dining on the ship! Our waiter was awesome and we only ordered sides, apps, and margs and were stuffed to the brim! A great value. We also experienced the Brazilian steakhouse which was a new experience that we greatly enjoyed as well. I really did not like the morning breakfast buffet, which is strange for me because I usually don't mind buffets. Lunch buffet was okay. As for drinks, they seemed to take a long time to be made no matter where you went. Forget about even trying to get one out on the main pool deck. When I tried to get one at Bimini Bar, it took a good 20 minutes. Long lines everywhere. EMBARKATION 5/5: Don't remember too much from this, I think it went smoothly and quickly! ENTERTAINMENT 4/5: We saw two shows and one comedy routine. The first show was the "Soul Rockin" musical show, which I personally did not enjoy very much. Perhaps because most of the songs were older and I didn't know them; I also thought many of the performers did a very poor job lip syncing. However, my mom really enjoyed it so maybe it's again just because I wasn't familiar with the songs. The Elements show was phenomenal! Really felt like an experience you'd have off-broadway. We were both blown away by this one. Loved the magician who was in it, and we were bummed that we couldn't make it to see him the last night. I always love comedy on the ships, so we saw the last night late-night adult only show. Francis DeLorenzo was pretty good and I laughed quite a bit. Yes, I know the comedy is for adults, I just thought the routine was trying a bit too hard to be all about SEX !!! Lmao. ACTIVITIES 5/5: I enjoyed the onboard activities that the ship offered. Never felt like we were bored or didn't have something to do. We enjoyed one round of Bingo (the caller was a riot), a painting class (new experience for us which we thoroughly enjoyed), dance parties (mostly people watching for us lol), shopping, and the live music. We also purchased the spa pass and went there 4/5 days -- very relaxing and worth it. SERVICE 4/5: Now this one is hard for me to describe. I guess overall, we had more exemplary service than not. But we did have a few notable times when service was disappointing: first moments on ship at O'Sheehan's with waiter, spa rep who was affronted when we did not want to try his teeth whitening sample, and of course our guest services friend. Overall though, we had more great waiters than not, and the live band Azaelea sought us out after their Fleetwood Mac set to thank us for staying! We thought this was super nice. SHORE EXCURSIONS: We only booked one excursion through NCL and that was the "Monkey River Eco Tour." The tour did not depart until 2 hours after scheduled time because our ship got into port much later than expected due to rough seas. This excursion was pretty good, but it made for a long grueling day in the heat and sun, and we were left with little time to explore Harvest Caye. Our tour guides were very good. Other guests seemed taken aback that we did exactly what the tour specified - a boat ride through jungle river and a hike through jungle looking for howler monkeys (which we did see plenty of them). I think just due to the later timing of the activity (starting at 12pm instead of 10am), people were drained, dehydrated, and exhausted at this peak of the day for such an outdoor activity. The other excursion we booked through Native Choice tours and was fabulous. VALUE FOR MONEY: 3/5 I just feel like we spent SO much more for this cruise when the services received were very similar to Carnival. It also honestly felt like the addons and extras were around every corner and pushed way more than on our past cruises. Like I said, I did really like the updated ship, but I'm not sure if that it is entirely worth it to me for the price I paid. Read Less

My very first cruise with Norwegian, and what a pleasant surprise! After 40+ cruises on other lines, I was very impressed with Norwegian. Love, love their free style cruising and the entire experience was AMAZING! The cruise directors and his staff were the best I have encountered! Kudos to you Norwegian! The only thing I regretted was that is was not longer cruise. The cabin was spacious and the bathroom was larger than or usual cabin. The shower and toilet were in separate locations, by sliding doors. The dining was superb with many options. The service impeccable, and the entertainment superb! The shows were superbly done. The performers were passionate and their energy was evident in all their performances. The game shows were nicely done with added twist and humor. An excellent cruise, I highly recommend the Norwegian cruise line. Their free style cruising surpasses all the cruise lines I’ve been on. Read Less

Deck 13 at open air bar only after refueling. And cigar room only. Casino smoking only when open. So only place to smoke when we got onboard for3hrs was cigar room with15 seats and you needed a knife to cut thru the smoke.rccl going to have to change that. Read Less

The ship has a small pool area for the amount of people that it takes, on land days that’s not a big problem but on sea days there’s definitely no room to enjoy that area unless you go save a spot early in the morning, the biggest problem we had was with the onboard entertainment, it was 5 days of the same over and over, the one day we had a night of somewhat good music I requested from vip band to play something for everyone and was told yes no problem but they played through their 50 minute session non stop and didn’t please the crowd, once they finished and the DJ Dylan came to his booth I again went to him and requested some Latin music and was told that I should have asked the band that was doing the Latin party and when I told him I did but didn’t get the request fulfilled he simply brushed me and stated playing something else completely different, take in account that there were only about 20 of us there at that time and we all wanted what I was requesting, the hallway on the 9th floor where my stateroom was located was always smelling like weed and the room itself was a 3.5 at best. Most likely I will not be vacationing with Norwegian again. The one girl from Morocco that was on the entertainment was the nicest person ever on that whole ship. Read Less

This was the 2nd cruise on the Dawn for my Mom and me. We did Boston to Bermuda a few years ago. This time, Miami to Costa Maya and Cozumel. We’ve been on larger ships, too, like the Breakaway and enjoy both the large and smaller ship experiences. We had a great time. The crew was nice, always friendly and always greeted us with smile and warm hello. Our room steward, Sandip, was very attentive and our ice bucket was always full and cabin always neat and fresh. He left us such a nice note on the last day and we told him a little about NYC, where the Dawn is headed next. The food was fantastic! We ate at either Aqua, the Venetian or O’Sheehans and hit the buffet for random snacks. The buffet was fine - it’s a buffet - our expectations were not high, but we didn’t eat there for major meals. We preferred the sit down and be served restaurants and were not disappointed. Prime Rib, NY strip, baked fish, homemade chicken cordon bleu, risotto, and mozzarella ravioli. Delicious desserts. The brownie cheesecake at O’sheehans was yummy. Service was great as well. The 2 main dining rooms had great choices every night. And served nice lunches, too. I read the reviews about the food being just ok or horrible. Not sure what these people ate or what they are used to, but I strongly disagree! Perhaps they were eating hot dogs from the Pool grill? At any rate, we ate complimentary dining every meal and came home satisfied. The shows were awesome. Loved Soul Rockin Nights and Elements and Po, the magician was fun. Didn’t see the comedian because we were pooped from the day on shore. But we played Deal or No Deal, enjoyed time in the sun on 12 and naps in the shade on 7 with gorgeous views. The weather was fantastic. Minor complaint - I forgot how SMALL the pool was. Holy crowdedness! Wall to wall bodies. But that wasn’t of major concern, But might be for some. The pool music was fine. Looked like everyone was enjoying it. Wasn’t of huge interest to us - we preferred the tranquil waves on deck 7. But all of n all, the Dawn is a nice small ship for a fun getaway. 5582 Costa Maya - we did a Mayan Ruin excursion. The ruins were interesting and excursion overall was good, however the trip there gave us an up close view of the poverty and horrible living conditions in the surrounding area. The roads were littered with trash, waste and general dirtiness. The cruise line, excursion company or someone needs to reinvest in the community and assist with cleanup and establishing a better sewer system. Read Less

I was a bit taken back after booking this cruise to have the Norwegian agent say you may be disappointed after being in the Bliss...a true statement. From embarkation, seemed like one ball drop after another. Met some truly wonderful people and staff- and as well some people I wish stayed home. Cabin older (10058-balcony) but clean, smaller. Toilet was small and on five occasions I had to call guest service- wouldn’t flush... someone a few cabins away kept blocking it. Met people who had no a/c in an interior, sewage smell , in their cabins.... one night on my deck an electrical fire broke out causing many to be evacuated to deck 13... we didn’t hear the commotion but heard thru passengers horrible stuff and handling. The smoking section at top of ship was flat out horrible traversing twenty plus steps. Food was good, specialty restaurants good, entertainment and music was so so.... same people same songs...all in all I will sail on Norwegian again but not on the Dawn. Also, I think Norwegian needs to deal with some of the surly staff and the way they handle problems or complaints. You have a wonderful product but Passengers who pay have rights too—help those or reimburse those with uncorrectable problems..instead of babysitting people who are in a large suite who act inappropriately, worry about the folks who work hard and want a wonderful experience Read Less

Love the Western Caribbean. Love sailing on NCL. Even though the Dawn is one of their older, smaller ships, it makes up for it in a close knit crew who we became very much acquainted with and hated to say "good bye" to. Food excellent (breakfast in the Venetian), dinner at Los Lobos, Moderno, and Le Bistro. Tenderloin at Le Bistro was amazing! Our steward took great care of us! Our servers at the restaurants we're fabulous! Because we have sailed on NCL multiple times, we have noticed the entertainment hasn't changed. We had seen it all before. That is an area that could be updated and improved upon. White Hot Party was a bust. It used to be held in the Bliss and more of a dance party for adults. Now on the pool deck it has become disorganized, scattered, children and teenagers running around with adults sitting off to the side....bored. Karaoke had some songs that had to be removed due to inappropriate words (profanity, vulgar, demeaning words). Some entertainment in the Bliss during hours that children were allowed in we're inappropriate for children. Enjoyed the Bliss better on past cruises better when it was used more for adults to go and dance and enjoy the music. Embarkation and Disembarkation were the smoothest, quickest, friendliest and best ever in Tampa. Better than Miami, Port Canaveral, Seattle, Venice, and Barcelona. Great Port! Read Less

This was our first cruise on NCL. The live entertainment (deal or no deal, the "cirque-like" performance, the comedian, the big-band musicians who did a trivia game) was better here than on that "other cruise line" although some of the singer performances were not very appealing and we left those early. The flexible dining options were really nice... we could eat free in multiple places without long lines or reservations. The times for the one event we liked most, trivia, were changed without notice multiple times, and that was a downer. The wi-fi we paid for was awful. We had no issues with our cabin or plumbing which was lovely. All the staff was friendly and helpful. Most places on the boat felt clean and kept up, with the exception of a few ladies' restroom doorlocks. The "new" paintings in the larger dining hall were garish and out of place, and service there was a little slow in the a.m. But the other restaurants were comfortable and varied. There were too many things you could do if you paid extra, and not enough fun/free things to do like trivia, dance lessons, or exercises that were free. There were plenty of lounge chairs and sun, however. This particular cruise had very few little ones running around. We will likely go again, but with a better plan in place for internet needs and lower expectations on schedules. Read Less

This was my wife and myself, 10th cruise with N.C.L. and it simply didn't disappoint. As usual embarkation was an absolute breeze. A very smooth operation. Access to our cabin to unpack was swift so we could start our holiday as soon as possible. The cabin was spotlessly clean, and remained so for the cruise duration thanks to our fantastic cabin steward, Agus. A real gentleman. All cruise long, the food on board was the usual N.C.L. standard. First class. Not a single complaint on either temperature, quality, or service. The vast majority of the guests were from the U.S. and a very friendly mix of all age groups made for a very enjoyable holiday. We always get a great welcome in America. O.K. now to the main reason for the 5 star rating of this cruise. The entertainment. Without doubt, the best we've seen on any ship. The cruise director (Dingo Dave) certainly came up trumps here. Every theatre show was outstanding. The magician, the acrobats, the comedian (Landry) , the singers and the dancers. A standing ovation every night. The top show of the week was Elements. We've seen that show before and it was good, but this time it was out of this world. As good as a London West end performance. It made the hairs on the back of my neck stand up. The final show of the week was Showdown. Again, a top quality (mock) singing competition. The comedian (Landry) did a one off adults only end of cruise performance. Very funny guy who didn't need to resort to swearing just to get a laugh, but be warned, it is most definitely adult humour. All the around ship entertainers were excellent. The piano man (Anthony Garcia), was exceptionally talented. The poolside band (Caribbean wave), the nghtclub band ( Manilla soul), all are worthy of a mention. On the final night Dingo Dave and the rest of the entertainment crew did the 1st ever trial of a new show called, The Movie Sketch Comedy Show. A resounding success. Bliss Nightclub was packed to capacity. All the destinations were very pleasant places to visit with a vast array of excursions to choose from, but we did hear that the taxi drivers in Honduras were very pushy for business to the guests who chose to explore on their own. It is a shame when that happens. It can be very intimidating for elderly guests. Our final port of call was Harvest Caye in Belize which we unfortunately had to miss because of high winds. The captain made the right call to abandon docking. It would have been very dangerous to try. At the end of the cruise, disembarkation should have been much quicker. All non U.S. citizens were told time and time again to go to the Aqua lounge to be checked by the immigration officials, but some guests either chose to ignore, or genuinely didn't understand the instructions to follow, and as a result, our disembarkation tour of Tampa and transfer to the airport just felt a bit rushed to start. To finish off, we'd just like to thank America for a lovely welcome, and holiday. Us Scots always get a great welcome, and to all N.C.L. staff, from the captain to the happy happy, washy washy stewards, we're already planning N.C.L. cruise number 11. Read Less

This was our fourth cruise, and all on NCL. All have been with at least one grandchild. This time we had two grandchildren who were new to cruising (middle school and freshman in college). We splurged for not only a balcony, but also a mini suite. Embarking was unpleasant. Heard the ship had arrived late. We had a noon time embarking slot-a madhouse in Tampa. No clear entrance for Latitude members. Just happen to hear one lady guiding others to an entrance. At the end of the cruise, no confusion, just a crazy long lilne. The shows/ entertainment-outstanding. Dingo Dan has the gift to keep your attention and laugh. All the shows were super. Really enjoyed the afternoon hour of a few of the entertainers talkin about their life onboard and taking questions. Food-great variety the first day. Unfortunately, there isn't much change. Yes, some days did have more Mexican or more seafood, but just didn't seem like "Mexican night" or 'Seafood night" as experienced on other cruises. Taste though was fine, and could have Indian entrees lunch and dinner (which was a treat for me). Cagney's-what more can be said that you haven't read already. First time we went and hopefully won't be the last. Liked the buffet, but regretted not eating at Cagney's every dinner. Smaller swimming pool (singular) than expected. Casino was fine. Sufficient smoking areas. Steward was amazing as all we have had have been. There was just something about this ship and cruise that rate a 3 as opposed to a 4. The room was spacious. Sufficient storage. Convenient electrical plug (of course bring a multiplug for four people's electronics). TV was located in a logical place (unlike on our first cruise). Did not use the "Children's/ Teen Club". Both children did not seem board hanging out with us and checking out what was available on the ship and swimming. Harvest Caye-girls loved the pool. Just a place to shop at a created port; that doesn't sell bottles of local rum ! Costa Maya is so much better even if just shopping. Read Less
