This was our 1st cruise. We stayed in an oceanview stateroom. Our room was beautiful and clean! We always had new towels and ice! It was a constant party for 7 days! The bar staff and wait staff is exceptional! We went the last week in July and the ship was smooth sailing. We were so afraid of getting sea sick on our first cruise. We all had sea bands and I would recommend them. The ship is beautiful, clean, and so much fun! We thought the food was outstanding in the main dining halls and specialty dining restaurants. We loved the shows and were impressed with the talent provided. Our kids were 16 and 19 and they had a ball! We loved it so much we put down a deposit to cruise again! We had 22 people in our group...which made it even more fun! We would highly recommend this cruise! Read Less

As an 8 time NCL customer - we were delighted with the one week cruse to Bermuda. From Boston - it was an smooth check-in and finding our cabin ready to be occupied was a plus at 1:30 in the afternoon. NCL likes to have many of its sailers arrive early, but we arrived between 1-1:30 and it was a smooth process - with little delay. We enjoyed the size of the Dawn - approx. 2600 passengers, as we have been on the Epic and Gem - with 5-6000 passengers and it can be somewhat crowded. We also liked the overall set up of the ship making it easy to get around and find the important sites to be visited. Nightly shows were very good. We are not fans of the magician family, but the other areas were well done. We especially liked the Patti/Jose tribute to Neil Diamond - they were very good. Bermuda was a nice Island to visit. We decided to take the 5 hour island tour upon arrival on Sunday. The driver was a police officer and therefore knew the island and the spots to visit very well. Sunday was the final day of the America's Cup races, which we were able to visit for an hour or so - they had many vendors set up on the main street of Hamilton. On day two of our visit to Bermuda we walked over to the Clock-Island Mall - close to ship docking area, they had many nice stores with the usual souvenir stops. On day three of our visit to Bermuda - we took the Ferry - $4.50 each way into Hamilton. It is a historic and friendly area to spend a few hours. We had visited St. George as part of our 5 hour island tour on Sunday - so we did not go back there. It is a quiet area with a few streets of shops, but not a spot to spend a lot of time - unless you wanted to fill your day with more sightseeing. Overall, we enjoyed the meals, did not go to specialty restaurants - main dining rooms are fine for lunch and/or dinner. Our inside cabin was adequate for two - having three would have been very very cozy!! The Casino is as good as you want to make it. It has its' share of slot machines, which we did ok on - but also has a serious smoke issue as the night goes on. We found many smokers were in thew casino just to smoke and not gamble. Not sure how this can be better handled - unless a better air-system is installed. We would recommend the Dawn as a medium size ship - has all the horns and whistles one needs to have an enjoyable time. Debarkation was a bit slower than usual - but it worked out fine - I find more people are taking the option of taking you bags off early to get an early trip home. Read Less

we took the dawn to Bermuda, this was our first cruise. we cruised with another couple & we shared a room, next time we will definitely get our own room for privacy but overall it was an amazing time. we live about a hour away from Boston so this cruise was very convient for us. like I said I had never been on a cruise before so I really didn't know what to expect, but i will tell you it blew my expectations right out of the water! there was never a dull moment, always something to do, lots of live entertainment, such as bands by the pool, dj's, and shows at the theater. when we got to Bermuda we took a cab to horeshoe bay, one of the most popular beaches on the island. on the way to the beach he told us all about Bermuda, what we should see, and all the history of the island. he also set us up with scooters, he took a business card out & dialed the number to set us up right. we rented from elbow cycles, they were truly amazing. Mrs. t treated us like family, she wrote on our map, explain in detail how to get there. Kevin (Mrs t's son) fave us a full lesson on how to drive the scooters, he wouldn't let us go until we were fully confident. after we got the scooters we did so much, we had a full day of adventure. we saw & did everything we wanted to do.everyone on the island was so kind & understanding, you could literally ask anyone for directions. we snorkels at church bay & that was by far my favorite part of this cruise. being so close to all of the different kind of fish was amazing. my boyfriend & I are already planning our 2nd trip. truly an amazing vacation!! The fresh buns in the morning were especially good. We dined in the Bistro and La Cuchina which were very good, especially Bistro. Bar service was great in the Star Bar particularly. There were plentry of lounge chairs to be had at the pool. The exercise facilities were excellent We would definitely go on this cruise again as access in Boston was so convenient, and the cacation began the minute we set foot on the ship. Read Less

My vacation was a lot of fun since this was my first cruise. I did not know what to expect. I was just going "to go with it" and see what a cruise is like. Since I was on a freestyle cruise I did not get a sense of a traditional cruise, it was a freedom cruise. The Norwegian Dawn was a great ship to go on and I had a lot of fun. I caught a great picture of one sunset that I hope will be the picture of all pictures. I also had a good time with our waiter who we tried to stay with during our cruise. He anticipated our needs to the fullest extent. Also since this was my first trip on 20 years our of the country, I was a little nervous about traveling outside the U.S., we had fun in Bermuda. Touring the Island by ferry and bus and doing some shopping was a great experience. I was able to get some rest from my school work. Overall I had a great experience for my first cruise. Read Less

I just returned from a cruise from Boston to Bermuda on NCL. This was my first cruise but after cruising with NCL I am sure I will cruise with them again. The service we received was fantastic from the start. The booking and check-in were smooth and easy. Our room was ready right away for the time we chose to check-in and our bags arrived very shortly thereafter. We stayed in room 9718 and I want to mention this because our housekeeper was great but unfortunately I can't remember his name but I must say he remembered ours and we were always greeted with a smile and a big warm hello. He was available at all times to make sure any possible need we had was met. The room was cleaned early every day always turned down for us. The activities available are great, I can't possibly say enough about Andre the Asst. Cruise director. He conducted a lot of the activities we chose to participate in and by the end of the cruise we were picking activities to go to because of his fun personality. The trivia games he came up with were so much fun (my fave was Friends) and even some of the ones I didn't know anything about I attended just because he made it such a great time. All of game shows, bingo and trivia were fantastic but make sure you attend "The Perfect Couple", I won't get into detail because it is definitely NOT what you are thinking it is and I do not want to ruin it if you don't know what to expect but when I left my cheeks hurt from laughing so hard. The Spinnaker Lounge is a great place to enjoy drinks at almost anytime whether participating in the current activity or not. The service we received in the Lounge was nothing short of perfect. Award Rei was friendly, attentive and helpful with any questions we could possibly have had. Award was a reason we kept coming back to the lounge Rakesh our bartender made great drinks and gave us friendly service with a smile at all times but all and all the entire staff in this lounge was just great and like I said kept us coming back. We spent a lot of time in the casino while on the ship when we were not participating in Andre's activities and whether winning or loosing we kept going back because we also loved the staff there. Tara, one of their great dealers was great, she was friendly, knew all the games she worked on and even provided us with a tune or two with her beautiful voice. I have been in casinos where you could brew your own beer to get it quicker, but not here. We found the waitstaff in the casino to also be fantastic but I have to specially mention Ana. She was so attentive and friendly and I always around when we needed anything! ( I truly don't think some of this staff on this entire ship sleeps because they were always around for anything we needed) The food all around is exactly what it claims to be. If you go to the buffet, you get buffet food. If you go to the Blue Lagoon, you get comfort food as promised (this place is a gem if you find yourself hungry in the wee hours of the morning). For the most part if you pay the extra for the upscale dinners, you get more of an upscale experience. Moderno was delicious and the service was great there, worth the cover charge in my opinion but be sure to go in there with a hearty appetite as the food will just keep coming. The Venetian is probably the exception where although included it felt much more upscale and both the food and service were more on the level of one of the more upscale choices. The one negative I have to include (but not worth taking a star from the entire cruise itself) Cagneys, if you want to go, book far in advance, we had about two dinner times to choose from for the entire week and we did book early in the cruise. The steak was good, not really all that great. If you think you are going to get Capital Grill, Ruth Chris, Morton's, etc caliber, this is just not the case. We were seated in a table that felt like we were in the kitchen and yet still could not get a drink. I felt the waiters only catered to the bigger parties for some reason and just kept walking by us. The service here was a big disappointment after the service we had been receiving all week. I will not bother on my next cruise. Overall the boat is kept very clean. The pool is a bit crowded but you have to expect that if you pick a boat that only has one pool. For us this was not important, we just choose to enjoy the beaches in Bermuda instead of sitting by the pool. We did go up to the pool to have some cocktails and listen to live music a few times and the waitstaff & bartenders work their butts off to get you what you want as quick as possible in a crowded area. Thanks to Norwegian Cruise Line and their wonderful staff for making our first cruise a great and memorable experience. We can't wait to book our next cruise and we hope we are lucky enough to have some of the same smiling friendly faces we had on this cruise. Read Less

We received the "free cruise" flyer in the mail from Resorts hotel in AC,NJ and decided to take advantage it. Little did we know free meant 2500 dollars in little charges. If you are the type of person who cannot unwind or hates rowdy crowds this cruise is not for you. Here is why this was the worst vacation of our life's: 1. The room was the size of a mozzleium, do not overpack thinking you will need a lot of dress clothes (the people on this boat wear a lot of shorts of flip flops.) 2. Walking through the hallways are touture if you are claustrophobic. 3. I have never seen so many drunk middle aged people in my life. Most people got the alcoholic package (we did not) and they must have felt obligated to drink all day and night. One lady dropped a martini glass in the pool and it had to be closed for 3 days. 4. If you google Norwegian Dawn you will see a pretty pool deck that looks so serene. It's the worst place on earth. The pool is the size of a bathtub and as shallow as one. It is filled with urine from latchkey kids and their parents alcohol. There are literal jersey shore look spikes sitting next to you smoking, and you can not get up without stepping in somebody's drink and almost falling down the stairs. 5. If you enjoy swimming you are better off putting scuba gear on in your bathtub, NCL is famous for false advertising. They make their pools like they are Olympic size but in reality they are tiny and you have an inch to move. At least on this boat anyway. Getting in to cool down was horrible, the bruises I had on my legs and stomach from being kicked from trying to move in that pool were the size of golf balls. 6.There were 4 hot tubs that could seat 5 people per tub. The cruise had 2500 people on it, this didn't work out too well... 7. There are no rules enforced on this ship we had kids running up and down our hallway all night from night one to night 7... Children also jump from the stage into the pool, one almost drowned. It clearly says no diving but again anything goes. 8. Guest services was very rude and not helpful in the least bit. 9. Many things were unsafe on this boat, a rotting piece of wood was falling off the hot tub ( a huge chunk) and nobody did anything about it. I slipped of the ladder due to kids pushing and had wood in my foot for the whole trip. 10.the food is not good at all. It is no better than college cafeteria food, and it's the same thing every day and night. We went to the buffet right when we got on the boat and we saved a seat for a little old lady and people were fighting her for it, lying and screaming. That was the first bad sign for us. 11. They messed up the day they were supposed to decorate our room for my birthday, it took several calls to refund the money and they were extremely rude. 12. They will bleed you dry for money. No matter what you are doing they will try to take your picture, you could be sunbathing with lotion all over your face and they shove a camera in front of you and then try to charge you 40 dollars. No thank you. 13. The worst thing about the cruise was the things we found out that made us regret giving NCL a dime. They hire forgeion workers and they are away from their families for months on end, they barley speak to them. So sad. They share tiny cabins with 3 other workers and work rigorous hours. 14. I REFUSE TO AFFILATE BERMUDA WITH THE CRUISE OR THE CRUISE LINE. -Bermuda, Royal Naval Dockyard -Docking was easy -Horseshoe Bay was just as beautiful as the pictures -Dolphin Quest was amazing ( we did not purchase it through NCL) - We felt rushed and wished we had more time -After extensive research a resort in Bermuda would have been the same price Sidenote: Having no wifi or cable is extremely difficult, Dirty Dancing played over and over again on the TV and it was miserable! I am an avid lover of the water and did work on the water professionally years ago and finally my wife and our two older boys ages 17 and 21 were finally taking a cruise. Let's just say I was looking forward to it along with my boys. We are familiar with Boston Harbor and approaches to Boston and it was great to see the pilot boat and the harbor islands on departure. Cruising was uneventful weather wise and this was welcomed by my Wife especially because of concerns of motion sickness. I can say that the pre-cruise planning and reservation interaction with Norwegian was easy and efficient. We had the same easiness with the staff and hospitality stewards embarking and disembarking in port without any problems. Our room steward Emmanuel was excellent and greeted us with a smile every time we saw him. He especially made the cruise experience welcoming for us. Our expectations as far as the food , recreation equipment and exercise equipment was surpassed. The food was better than expected at the buffet. The emphasis on cleanliness was noticeable. If you can recommend dining at the sit down restaurants where you are waited on at no extra charge. Did not try Cagney's or any of the upper end restaurants. The only complaint is that I never did get a reply or confirmation that my suggestion was read or reviewed by the ship's senior hospitality officer that "Sargasso Sea" is misspelled on the NAV channel as "Saragasso Sea" in one of the slides. Also they should not charge for tours of the bridge and behind the scenes. As a former officer aboard a merchant vessel it was always a pleasure to explain what happens on the bridge to guests. I provided my email and room number and still no reply. Only promotional material in emails following the cruise. They do have the marketing down and only wish there was more time in Bermuda. And yes the pool area was disappointing and the tubs and pools occupied by either drunks, children, or inappropriate young adults. My boys were turned off mostly by the conduct of a lot of the young adults their age Read Less

We had never gone on a cruise before, but my parents had gone 3 times on a Norwegian ship already. My parents stayed in the adjoining room and my family of 4 stayed in the next room. We had a great stay and will no doubt go back to Bermuda with Norwegian again soon. The Dawn was a beautiful ship. The staff kept everything so clean. It was amazing to see them work 24/7 on the floors, walls, and rooms. They never stopped, and it was much appreciated. The use of sanitizer at each dining location also made us happy since it helped to reduce the spread of infection. The food was unreal. We ate so well the entire trip. The buffet was perfect for breakfast. The free dining spaces were our lunch and dinner destinations. We loved the Venetian, Aqua, and Bamboo. I can't see a reason to eat at a speciality restaurant since the food was so good at the complimentary locations. I loved how there were several cookouts set up by the pool and the bar above the pool always had hamburgers and hot dogs ready. The wait staff at each location was so attentive and personable. They treated my two sons really well. The mixed drinks were made well, though pricey if not on the beverage package. My only complaint would be that dinner often took 90 minutes to complete from appetizer to dessert, which could impact evening shows and other plans. The entertainment was first class each night. The shows inside the theater were so good. The on-board staff was outstanding, and they brought in so many other wonderful entertainers. It was like Broadway in a 45 minute show. In addition, there was always something going on in the bars from morning to night. My 15-year old son had a great time at night with the teen club. They do a nice job entertaining and feeding the kids. He didn't get in until after 1:00 a.m. each night. I do agree that the pool could have been larger and chairs were hard to find when you didn't secure one immediately in the morning. The entertainment around the pool made it a desirable location to sit, though the front of the ship always had a nice breeze and was quieter when you wanted that. We did take the jet ski excursion from the Dockyard. It was a nice 90-minute trip around part of the island. The cost was high, though almost everything in Bermuda was. Trips to Horseshoe Beach were best of all. I would recommend taxis before buses since you get there faster. The Dawn was a great introduction to cruising. I would recommend it to everyone and will certainly go back. My boys want to try one of the bigger ships next. I am happy to do so!! Read Less

This was my first cruise and most likely my last. The cruise was filled to capacity to include 600 kids. At age 18 if a guardian signed off the 18 year old could drink and they hung out in groups with no supervision. The staff being over polite would not address the unruly teenagers or kids to include taking over many activities they should not have been in attendance at. The pool areas were not large enough to accommodate the amount of passengers that wanted to be on the decks (12&13) Therefore if you did not stake out a table or lounge and put your belongings on it by 8:30 a .m. ( which many did and did not use the lounge or tables for hours) then you were stuck inside. The only other deck besides around the pool that had lounges were on deck 7 and there were a total of 12 chairs. You could not sit out on any other decks so I and my family ended up inside the ship and not by choice unless I wanted to stand up if I was outside and the point of the trip was to enjoy the weather on the open sea and the beautiful views. The buffet was consistent but eating at the two restaurants included in the package were excellent and worth making reservations for the week in advance. I did purchase the spa package to include two speciality hot tubs a sauna room, relaxation room and pool for $139.00 with only 80 memberships being sold for the week. They added an additional 12 and did not mention it was completely enclosed from the outdoors. At least I got a lounge chair in there! I ended up being discouraged then as the week went on irritated that there was nowhere to sit outside leaving me limited to hang out in the cafeteria, a lobby area, bar or my room.. not the vacation I had planned. First time cruiser here. Myself and my wife took a drive down from Ottawa to Boston. The drive was great with no problems and then we arrived at the port. We got directed by the police officer to the parking area and then headed in for our check in. I selected 1000 time and even though we arrive a little late, we still got sent in right away to check in. Check in was painless and then we sat down to await our boarding number. One of the things that happened was that since we never cruised with Norwegian, we got given number 22 and had to wait approximately 25 minutes from the time they started calling numbers to when we got called to board. So now to the pluses, the food was great given we had UDP we ate at all the restaurants but my wife preferred Moderno. Service at all the restaurants was great. I also noticed the pool area was jam packed and most of the ship was empty during the day so getting a drink was a breeze. We went to 4 shows and I found all of them were great, especially Elements and Second City. Our room steward, Russel, was awesome and would help with anything we needed. One of the negative things I do have to mention is that some of the crew look really tired and my wife, who is of one of the Asian nationalities on board and speaks their language, talked to one of the assistant servers and was kind of upset to learn they sleep only around 5 hours a day with a pay of a little more than 1000$ a month although everything else is covered. Now, let me tell you, if I was getting 5 hours of sleep a night for 8 months, I would not be as helpful and pleasant so kudos to them for staying positive and having a great attitude. We didn't do any excursions and just explored the island by ourselves and mostly went to Hamilton, St-George and to see the pink sand beach which was awesome. We then spent two great days at sea coming back, even though we hit some rough weather, the show Elements still went on. Disembarkation went great, we walked off with our luggage at 0800. Read Less

We chose this cruise because it left from Boston, close to our home. After booking it, we learned that Norwegian has one of the best safety ratings of all the cruise lines. Check in was easy. The buffet lunches and breakfasts were just ok. The Garden Cafe had 2(?) of the 4 stations set up at each meal and the configuration of the cafe is very confusing to finding/choosing food and finding seating - not the actual seating, but finding my husband was very difficult. We waisted a lot of time doing both. Dinner was our favorite. Our package included the upscale dining. Word of advise: book ahead of time. The teppinaki - the japanese 'show' was very disappointing. Cagney's was the best! Nice to get dressed up at dinner. The rest of the day,I wore my bathing suit under a coverup. I wear all of my dresses, both bathing suits and the coverup. Very good idea to get the soft drink package. The drinks that are included in the meals were fine but at the pool and other areas, only soft drinks and liquor was sold. One cup of pepsi contained 6 ounces of ice and 2 ounces of pepsi and would have cost us $3 for each cup. Plus it was easy to be someone on the ship, like at the pool or at a show and want a drink. Our biggest complaint was that no one told us - not that anyone needed to tell us - that reserving lounge chairs at the pool must be done as early as possible even it meant, reserving the chairs at 7am and returning to bed for a few hours. On our first morning,at 7am,we went to the pool and nothing was set up and none was there - we ate breakfast and returned to the pool around 10am to find all chairs taken. I just learned now while reading another review that the 'rule' is after 30 minutes, no one has returned to their chair/table, one can move the items and sit there. Being our first cruise, we were very nervous about the experience and found that we enjoyed ourselves so much that my husband put a deposit for a future trip - to be taken in 4 - yes 4! years. We know that our teenage boys will have a blast! Other reviews stated that this ship is 'old' but in excellent shape. We didn't notice the age but did notice how clean - sanitizer spray was everywhere! We chose a balcony room (my husband insisted) close to the middle of the ship. I was surprised how lovely having a balcony was - and on level 10. Level 10 was so convenient to everything that we walked all the time. Read Less

First time Cruise age 63 & 69. Wife Broke led in March which made us all most cancelled. Balcony 9 aftermath, room was nice kept well all time, Our porter was accommodating, pleasant left chocolate and animal towels everyday any thing needed to be fix or correct was on top of it. Went to pretty much all eating facilities, service was average, Bistro Lacianto cut above. Modenna less especially if you did not want one of the cut notice upset. Main dining great variety, staff was actually attentive. Pool area we only went twice need more seating area I am not a great sun lover wife is shade was scare, as mention wife leg made it difficult to get in out pool, pool depth absolutely not accurate I am 5'8" and could not stand on bottom which took pool pleasures out for me. We went to most all shows and they were enjoyable and quite professional. We hit the various bars and the most all piano and entertainers we great. The couple at Java bar area my wife really liked the best. Services in all area was extremely slow and lake any urgency. The waiters were pleasant polite and social able maybe that why the pace was slow. We needed medical service and they were fantastic. We needed to rent a wheelchair which we eventually did. That brings me the issue when ask various question like wheel chair you would get conflicting statements, I had ask about portable oxygen machine which we brought to find out only two plugs in room needed and extension cord, and a multi plug strip which I brought, a freezer compartment so could Ice down leg you said yes realty no. excursion told meet us on board and guide us to the mini bus wrong. We just got back from the 7 day cruise from Boston to Bermuda. We traveled with my parents, my husband, our 7 and 2 year old and my brother/wife and his 3 year old. Overall, we had a fabulous time. I do recommend cruising (even with young children). I did a lot of research prior to leaving on how to entertain my toddler since he was too young for the Splash Academy. I shouldn't have worried so much because it was a breeze keeping him entertained. They have a room specifically for toddlers called the "guppy" room. It was awesome. They changed the toys out daily so it was always something new to play with. The 7 and 3 year old also enjoyed this room. We took tons of walks and ate tons of food! We spent time at the arcade (with the kids) and the casino (without, ha) Overall, the trip was not perfect. There were some things that would bug me (the closet light would not work, for example) but I'm not much of a complainer! The first day in Bermuda we got stuck in the rain! Oh well, it was awesome to hang out in the caves at Horseshoe beach. We would never have seen that if we didn't rain. For our family the PRO'S were the guppy room, the walking/jogging path and of course the COFFEE bar on deck 7. We also enjoyed the casino/game room and fitness center. The CONS were the room needed some improvements. 2 lights did not work and our air conditioning was on the fritz. We called for maintenance but the fix was short lived. We mostly ate the buffet since we had the young kids. The lines were long and could have been reduced if they had opened up the additional side. I'm not sure why it was not open on both sides! This was our first cruise for us and our kids ages 8 and 5. As a busy and tired parent of young kids, I was very pleased and satisfied with the quality and hours of the kids program, called "Splash Academy". Typically it ran three times a day from 9am-12, 2-5pm, and 8-10:30pm. In port the hours were different but the children could stay in the academy during meal times so parents could go out solo for longer periods of time. From the Day 1 registration till the end of the cruise, the youth staff were professional, friendly and fun. There were strict safety procedures with wristbands for the kids, scanning of cards, verbally spoken passwords, and signing in and out of pagers and cellphones (for emergency contacting of parents). The staff adhered to these procedures flawlessly - I was very impressed. The youth center had a different theme each day and the staff often wore costumes, plus different decorations were put up. Sometimes the kids got to go for a parade around the ship in costume and elaborate face paint. On the last night, the kids did a rehearsed performance in the ship's large theatre. Before the trip we worried our kids would resist being dropped off, but by Day 2 they were asking to go to the Splash Academy and even preferred this to going ashore (where it was hot and humid and "boring"). They started to recognize the other kids there and enjoyed seeing each other around the ship. Naturally this meant we had more time to relax and enjoy the cruise as a married couple, dress up and eat at the nice complimentary restaurants, watch all the evening shows (they were all really spectacular), use the gym, or just sit in the sun by the pool. In Bermuda we left the kids on the boat and went on a Rum Swizzle Sunset Catamaran excursion - they sail you out into the bay on a catamaran in the evening, and give you as many drinks as you like. It was the best moment of the trip! At mealtimes, the kids enjoyed the buffet as it has a special "kids café" with child size tables and chairs in a fenced corral, and the same fried food menu each day (inside the corral area). The adult buffet was excellent, with different hot food selections each day, and a selection of great Asian food (mostly Indian curries). The desserts were especially beautifully presented. A few things I didn't like: Getting off the ship back in Boston was confusing and time consuming as it seemed the majority of passengers chose to walk off at the same time, so the line of people waiting to get off literally circled the entire ship (from back to front) two times. It took one hour standing in line to get off. I couldn't even find the end of the line for a while. My suggestion to anyone is just have a leisurely breakfast and then get off as late as possible to avoid the rush. Outside of Splash Academy and eating at the buffet, most of the facilities on the boat are geared to adults so there was not much for the kids 5 and 8 years old to do on the boat. There was a decent sized kids pool with a couple of water slides and hot tubs, and we took the kids there often. However there was no public playground area to speak of. We brought ipads and they sat in the lounge or on deck chairs outside and played on them. Anyway these things were not a big deal. In summary, the cruise allowed us to have a very low-stress vacation with the kids and was a fun memorable experience for all. Read Less

Overall a very good time, took awhile for our luggage to get to the room. Promised at 2PM and arrived closer to 6PM. We stayed in the Owner's Suite room 12000 very nice and comfortable. Embarkation and Disembarkation were great since we had priority boarding and exiting. Butler and concierge were extremely helpful and more than met our expectations. Box seats in the Stardust were nice but the view to the far left side of the stage is very limited had to stand and see sometimes. Shows were good especially Davinci, Aerial Artists, and Elements, Second City was OK. Bar's are sometimes understaffed or all the bartenders are on one end (Topsiders) otherwise they were good since I had the Ultimate Bev Pack. Specialty restaurants were good and we visited them all. Main dining areas were decent. Garden Café was typically mobbed so we avoided it, used Venetian or VIP access to Cagney's instead. My one big gripe is the volume of smoke in the Casino. Horrible! My clothes reeked of tobacco stink. Would have spent more money if not for the nasty smoke. Bermuda was excellent went on a couple of excursions and was pleased with the service. Overall a good time. This was our first cruise. We went with our two children and my mother. There was very little pre-cruise orientation and virtually none on the cruise. The staterooms were comfortably appointed and the butlers were attentive. We found the food to be incredibly salty everywhere we went. The general dining room (Garden Café) had a decent variety of items for each meal but had a lot of things repeated day after day. For example, I would have liked to see quiche or an oatmeal bar with different add-ins available in the morning or smoothies available as part of breakfast offerings generally available. It was eggs benedict, home fries, bacon, sausage, cereal, etc.,... every morning for breakfast. In terms of lunch....burgers, fries, pizza, deli salads with lots of mayo, etc,... There was a salad bar but I would have liked to have seen a variety of vegetables that could be added to the salads. It was the same old, same old every day!!! We had the unlimited dining plan. So, we used that most nights. Again, it was apparent to us what this could and could not be used for and what were extras. We often asked several staff members and got different answers. Teppanyaki was excellent but again incredibly high amounts of salt. Moderno was great food but everything was marinated in salt. Bamboo was great and La Cucina was great too with outstanding service and decent quality food. Cagney's food was superb but the service was completely off. Sides arrived fifteen minutes after the steaks! In terms of activities, most involved drinking or gambling of some sort. We attended several martini tastings in Gatsby's and the bartender conducting them was excellent. We went to the casino a couple of nights but found the smoke obnoxious. There were no non-smoking areas in the casino. So, you leave smelling like smoke. We also played several of the game shows onboard. We played who wants to be a Gazillionare and the woman running it literally could not pronounce the words and had such a lack of enthusiasm that it was astounding. It was a ruse to get everyone to the Stardust Lounge to play Bingo and buy drinks. Deal or No Deal was pretty good. Allen the guy who played the piano was great. We saw him several times throughout the cruise. We attended a Elementz show, two Second City shows, a Beatles tribute show and a show that was a tribute to the 70's and 80's. The Second City folks were fantastic. The Elementz show had portions that were great ad others not so much. The 70's and 80's music extravaganza was nothing short of bizarre. Lots of sexual innuendo with some excellent performances but the male lead singer was definitely miscast. Some of the crew were down to earth and very helpful. However, there were several that really couldn't have been bothered to ask if you needed assistance or to provide it when asked. We spent almost three days in Bermuda and found the people to be warm and welcoming. It was quite shocking to see how built up Bermuda is. We took a tour the first night and the tour operator explained how they have virtually no land left that is open space. They have to collect the water off of their roofs because water is such a premium and nearly all of their food is imported. Gas is $8 per gallon, there is a lot of unemployment and throughout the island there are several spots where projects were begun but not finished because investors pulled out. St. George is a UN sight and really rich in history. Hamilton is beautiful. I would highly recommend Horseshoe Bay beach, Crystal Caves, Gibbs Lighthouse, Frog & Onion, Swizzler Inn, and the History Museum in Dockyard. Read Less

Hello. I sailed on the cruise on the Dawn from Boston to Bermuda from 5/29-6/5. On the evening of 5/29, a passenger apparently was injured, which necessitated the ship turning around and going back to Boston. Because of this, we lost what amounted to almost a full day in Bermuda. We arrived in Bermuda after 9pm on Sunday, with hardly anything open, and no public transportation running. When complaints were made to the front desk, they immediately reminded us that we signed off on Norwegian being able to change the itinerary due to unforeseen events. I get why, from a business perspective, they led with that fact. But I've worked in Customer Service for close to 15 years now, and from a customer standpoint, that is not acceptable. Bobby, our cruise director, on multiple occasions thanked the people that donated blood for the injured passenger, and rightfully so. But at no time did anyone on the staff thank the rest of the passengers for their patience or understanding, or apologize for loss of a day in Bermuda. I train customer service reps, and part of that training is teaching them that there will be instances where they need to take the heat and responsibility for things out of their control, and do their best to make the customers whole, and I saw none of that from Norwegian cruise lines. This would be a running trend with our cruise. On I believe Tuesday or Wednesday, we ordered room service one night, at roughly 9:30pm. It never arrived. We waiting until midnight or so, and called it a night. The next day, I went to Guest Services to make sure we weren't charged for the room service that never arrived. Rather than apologizing for room service not showing up, or offering any kind of empathy, the representative simply said, "If it happens again, dial 00 and we can check the status of it for you." They didn't even seem concerned that the event happened. It is for these reasons that I will not only never consider another Norwegian cruise, but I will tell everyone I know when asked about the cruise about our negative experience. My one and only experience with Norwegian was made up of several instances of their business not accepting accountability for the negative experiences that occurred, and I will be sure to communicate that fact to anyone who will listen. Aside from that, the cruise was decent. Getting on the ship was easy enough, as well as receiving our luggage. We ate at many of the complimentary and specialty restaurants, and the food was always good. The entertainment on board was good, particularly the magician and the comedy troupe. There was also an aerialist duo that was tremendous. I can't speak for the shore excursions since it was cheaper to purchase those on the island rather than via the cruise. Disembarking was a bit of a nightmare. We took the easy walk off option, but it wasn't overly easy. It appeared that everyone on board took the same option, and the line snaked around the entire 7th deck. There was very little organization, and we ended up getting yelled at for attempting to cut the line, even though it wasn't evident where the line even started. Eventually staff showed up to help direct traffic, but they really should think about staggering the easy walk off folks a bit. I wish I could say I enjoyed the cruise, but whenever someone asks me how it went, I cant in good conscience say it went well. It didn't. Read Less

We had a medical emergency on board the first night and ended up having to turn around and go back to Boston Port (which is fine) but the Captain NEVER told us until 2pm the next day when rumors were going around the ship that we had turned around. we were in Boston at 4am to take an 82 yr old women and the family of 8 off the ship and then at 7am the boat took off to Bermuda, we were going to be in Bermuda Sunday at 11am instead we arrived at 9pm!!!! The crew said to us sorry for the inconvenience and cooperation and enjoy your stay, see you wednesday back on the boat by 5am bc we leave at 6am!! They didn't care about the safety of children at night and all they could say to us after 3 days on a boat was "we didn't force you off the boat" My 5 yr old niece made lots of friends and swam in the kids pool and hot tub, loved the Splash Academy and we enjoyed the beach and the whole entire island and ALL the SUN!!!!!!!!! The service desk people were horrible and seemed like they practiced their lines, food was good except at the blue Lagoon my sister in law found 2 hairs in her food and they never came back to our table after we got served. I was incredibly sea sick but still enjoyed my time. Besides being on the boat, Bermuda was amazing!!!!! Read Less

This was my first experience cruising and several co-workers recommended I try Norwegian as the embarkation port is Boston which is very close to my home. This cruise was to celebrate my daughter's 21st Birthday which is a pretty big celebration in my family; however there were several areas we were just disappointed with. To start with the food in the main dining rooms was very underwhelming. The service was slow and the waitstaff was not very attentive. The ship also had to return back to Boston for a medical emergency costing us a day in Bermuda which was disappointing, and we didn't receive any communication about this until after the fact, nor did the cruise line offer any sort of compensation for the disruption to our vacation, they could have at least given a free drink or on-board credit for each passenger. While the cabin was small we didn't really mind as we anticipated being out of the cabin for the majority of the cruise, so we were fine with the cabin but couldn't understand why we had one electric socket. Three people with tablets and phones and one socket was challenging. I visited the Spa and while I enjoyed by hot stone massage it was somewhat pricey. However the major irritation at the Spa came from the hard sell of products after my massage, I don't know how many times I declined to purchase the products before they finally got the message. Dining was a huge disappointment, while we enjoyed the specialty restaurants the complimentary dining left much to be desired. It seems as though they are encouraging you to book the specialty dining at a fee by making the free dining less attractive. The 24 hour restaurant the Blue Lagoon has the slowest service I have ever experienced and I wasn't alone in feeling that way. They also have a very limited menu. If you are into desserts then this ship will disappoint, I can't recall how many desserts I took one bite of and pushed away, my daughter and I both were unimpressed with the desserts the entire cruise. The entertainment options were probably the highlight of the trip, I enjoyed the shows "Elements" and "Second City" as well as the "Passionate Hearts" show were wonderful. The Spinnaker billed as the "nightclub" was mostly empty at night and the house band was not very good. I found the pool area to be very small and always overcrowded that combined with rainy weather meant we never used the pool for the entire cruise. All in all we enjoyed ourselves but I expected so much more from my experience. I would book with Norwegian again, but would probably pay to have specialty dining my entire cruise and avoid the main dining rooms completely. My advice if your are taking a Norwegian cruise, pre-pay as much as possible to avoid the sticker shock at the end of your cruise. Read Less

We are sisters in our 60s who have travelled throughout Europe and the United States. This was our first cruise and it definitely will not be our last! We were on the Dawn’s May 22nd cruise from Boston to Bermuda. Since we live in Massachusetts, our travel to the port involved a car ride from Cape Cod to Boston. Once at the Black Falcon Pier, we encountered an organized process for unloading luggage, parking the car, proceeding through security, checking in and boarding the ship. In less than 30 minutes, we were in our cabin. We will acknowledge that we were in a suite so we had priority boarding, however, we did not see any difference in the level of service provided to us up until the completion of the check in so we feel that even passengers without suites encountered the same level of efficient service. We were in cabin 12510. This port-side cabin is located in the forward section of the boat and is easily accessible to elevators. Our butler, Marivaic and cabin steward, Winn were both professional and personable. In each and every interaction, their focus was on making our vacation a positive experience. They are truly exemplary employees. (It should be noted that every employee that we encountered on this vacation understood the meaning of quality customer service.) As suite passengers, we had access to Cagney’s for both breakfast and lunch. The service in this venue was outstanding. In addition, we had the Ultimate Dinner Package, so we dined in each of the specialty restaurants. The quality of the food and the service in each restaurant exceeded our expectations. The filet mignon at Cagney’s, the land and sea combo at Teppanyaki, the apple glazed pork at Le Bistro, and the never ending feast at Moderno were exceptional. We utilized room service for breakfast on several mornings and the Blue Lagoon for lunch on two days and found the quality of food to be very good. We also had dinner at Bamboo one evening and felt that both the service and quality of food was in line with the specialty restaurants. (Note: At the time of booking, Bamboo was a specialty restaurant but converted to being a complimentary restaurant in early May.) We felt that the ship was well maintained. Crew was seen cleaning, painting, and repairing on a regular basis. The few times when we questioned the cleanliness of anything was not due to the lack of attentiveness on the part of the crew but more reflective of the actions of passengers. (Leaving drinking glasses balanced on the railings in an elevator is not acceptable behavior.) As non-smokers, we found the pool area and the casino to be spots which we attempted to avoid. The nightly shows and musical performances throughout the ship were excellent. The murder mystery lunch was enjoyable and provided an alternative other than sun-worshipping on a sea day. While in Bermuda, we took the 5 hour bus tour of the island that is offered as a shore excursion through NCL. The driver was very informative and provided a good overview of both current day living in Bermuda and historical events. On the other days, we explored the Dockyard and took the ferry to Hamilton. When our trip came to an end, we decided to have our luggage picked up the evening prior to disembarking and to just deal with carry-on bags in the morning. As suite passengers, we were provided priority disembarking from the ship. We met in the Spinnaker Lounge at 8:45 and we cleared customs, obtained our luggage, walked to the parking lot and were in our car heading home by 9:05. As indicated in the opening paragraph, this was our first cruise and it will not be our last. We are booked on the NCL Gem for a trip to Florida & the Bahamas in May 2016! Read Less

First time cruiser. Had a wonderful time on the Dawn with 10 other people. THE SHIP OVERALL: Spotless and in good shape. She is one of the older ones so you will see maintenance crews frequently. I saw a 2 water leaks being addressed, a team re-varnishing the banisters and painters giving some areas a new coat. FITNESS SPACES: Gym had a good number of elliptical machines, treadmills, free weights and weight machines. Wasn't that busy when I went in the afternoon. Everything was is great condition and towels and wipes were ample. Helpful tip: Suggest holding on when walking on a treadmill while on a ship. While you don't feel the ship move, it sure shows when on a treadmill. The running track is narrow and can be congested with non-runners 10am on so you may want to adjust your schedule if you want a continuous run. The walking track on 7 is much more manageable (4 laps = 1.4 miles) and you catch a great breeze even though it is covered. FOOD: The fruit and fresh produce was delicious. That was a big thing for me and Norwegian exceeded my expectations. I ate at the Garden Cafe for breakfast and lunch every day and couldn't have been happier. I ate more of their daily specials (roast pork, panini, muffaletta (yum), cordon bleu) but their staples were delicious. Their breakfast buffet was wonderful - amazing fresh fruit, omelettes, Eggs Benedict and lot of bacon and sausage. I made it to day 6 before I had a meal that didn't have some pork involved.. that makes me happy. The coffee was good (important to me). Salad bar was always crisp.. no old produce here. For dinner, my group alternated between the two free restaurants - Aqua and the Venetian.I so enjoyed these dining options that I don't think one would need to upgrade to the specialty dining options. The daily specials were very diverse and their classics were also well received. I enjoyed wonderful Chateaubriand, Short Rib with Gnocchi, a great white fish that started with a S or a C and a delicious pork chop (of course- see above). The appetizers were the best in my opinion. The shrimp ceviche and the pate were of particular note. Our group also went to the Brazilian Steakhouse on the last night which was good. Everything was delicious but I ate so much during the previous days that I couldn't roll as I usually do. Pork, pork, pork and more pork = a happy girl. The thing that impressed me is that they cook to order. Everything that we ate was a few minutes off the grill and was perfectly cooked for those of us who like red meat: medium - medium rare meat. Those of my group that drove home from Boston the next day rode home in a car filled with 5 people with meat sweats.. at the time of this writing I am not convinced the smell has left the automobile. COCKTAILS: Not to be taken lightly my friends. These are properly made cocktails.. not skimping on the booze. Keep this in mind as you imbibe. Great variety of top shelf hard liquors. I ordered a few martinis and many negronis during my trip and they were perfectly made. The bloody marys were also delicious and had a good kick, which was shocking as they used a mix from a bottle. SERVICE: I cannot say enough good things about the team on this ship. The service here was above and beyond what I have experienced in 5 star hotels. So lovely. As mentioned above, our room steward was sweet. Always greeted us by name and a huge smile. The Garden Cafe team was so efficient in keeping the place immaculate. On numerous occasions I would see them cleaning things I didn't even know people clean (wiping out service station drawers, wiping down the pedestals of the tables and chair legs). So impressive. The dining staff was friendly and prompt... offered us 2nd dinners should we wish. I witnessed them deal with difficult customers with so much grace and patience. Now on to the peeps that saw me the most, the bar staff. As mentioned above, they make a proper cocktail. This takes some time. There are no vats of frozen drinks or cocktails here. Service takes a little longer than places where people are not ordering 4 different frozen beverages requiring one to rinse out the blender each time. Plan ahead for it to take about 5 min to get a drink if you are used to lightning quick service. That said, the bar team was awesome. Our group did cocktails at the pub every night before dinner and the sweet Nanette knew all 11 of our names and our preferred beverage on sight by night 2. Look for her if you find yourself if the pub, she is a gem full of great stories of her 16 years with Norwegian. The bar staff at Spinnakers was also great. The bartenders could spot my frizzy hair from 3 ppl deep at the bar and had my order ready for me. The bartenders at the pool bar are not as outgoing as their pub counterparts but they are insanely busy starting first thing in the morning. They are efficient machines who keep the pool from descending into mutiny until the upper bar opens so don't expect them to spend too much time chatting with you, but do expect a drink as soon as they can get to you. And finally, the port staff in Boston are impressive. My group had an incident where someone ran off with my cousin's suitcase and the Norwegian rep was very helpful in convincing the irate but in the wrong party to get off his high horse and drive back to the port to return the suitcase that HE took by mistake. Her patience and firmness was something to behold. As you can tell, I strongly recommend sailing on the Dawn... primarily due to the staff and the quality of the food and drinks. We sailed to Bermuda, which was lovely, but that wasn't what stands out to me as I look back. Hope you all find this helpful. Read Less

This being my first cruise experience, me and my husband celebrated our first wedding anniversary and the cruising was a pleasant experience. The ship "Norwegian Dawn" was well maintained and the crew is super-friendly, hard working and polite. Main attraction is the dining options they provide which caters to all food-type. We being vegetarians were happy, the salads were prepared separately on request, we were never let down on food. Its well maintained and clean. Rooms were pretty small but it was made sure that it is cleaned twice a day and the house keeping staff were great. Hospitality is great. For shore excursions we rented a bike which is 5 mins walk from dockyard and they charged 190$ for 3 days, this gave us a lot of flexibility to move around Bermuda. We saw horse-shoe bay beach, christian bay and Hamilton city on the first day, second day we went to crystal caves, somerset bridge(World's smallest Bridge) and went around St.George (beautiful and very picturesque) and on third day we visited National Museum(5 mins walk from Dockyard) and we went on jet-ski to Bermuda triangle to see ship wrecks. On the whole Bermuda is very clean and the localities are friendly. Everyday the crew of the ship made sure they kept us entertained, there were shows every evening and the dancers are awesome. We enjoyed the bird show as we got to have personal interaction with the trainers and we got photo opportunity with birds !! we enjoyed all the shows but personal favorite is the aerial show. Very entertaining and we had parties every night. Travelling to embarkation port is easy, and they guide you to the parking space and they charge 20$ per day, we started from Boston on time and reached Bermuda on-time.Disembarkation was also hassle-free. Overall the cruising has been an amazing experience and we look forward to having more !! :) Read Less
