This is the first time cruiseing with NCL and our experience was great. My only down side was the age range of the cruisers since we are a younger couple. My big plus was how great our room was and how clean and how the turn down service was amazing. Our stateroom steward was Eko Miftakhul Najib he made our cruise experience great. Also the cruise director was amazing and keeping the party going and I loved his jokes. The dinning was very good but desert options where not my favorite. The excursions where diverse and every since excursion was memorable and good experience. The ship was updated and the staff was friendly. The photo center was great we enjoyed the photos that where purchased. We enjoyed taking photos from one paticular photographer I can’t remember her name exacts but she was a younger girl from South Africa. She was great and she made our trip memorable. Read Less

We decided to sail out of San Juan because of the iitenerary. It did not disappoint. Barbados and St. Lucia were great ports. The Virgin Islands were good as well. I like NCLfreestyle ways. Everyone on board was friendly and went out of their way to make your experience a good one. The room stewards are on point Adrian was ours and he was great. Pedro the entertainment director does a good job. The not so newlywed game had me in tears literally. I advise booking some speciality restaurants and booking early. They fill up fast. The complimentary restaurants get old after a while. The Dawn is an older smaller ship. It wears its age well. The ship is well cleaned. The staff is great. The dock party was a blast. NCL entertain better than carnival in my opinion. Moving the white party indoors because of weather was premature. Ended up being beautiful outside. Overall, it was a great trip. There are a lot of free giveaways in port. Check the insert of you daily entertainment publishing. Oh to my surprise, the drinks on NCL were poten. Not cheap, 10-15 each. But strong and tasty. It was a great way to see a number of islands in the eastern Caribbean. The value seemed like a deal and the 10 day length gave me enough time to see several islands on one trip. I scheduled several shore excursions and purchased a 7-day specialty meal package. I was a little disappointed my travel agent didn't take advantage of the "Free at Sea" promotion Norwegian was running at the time. It offered unlimited bar, free wifi/internet, a few free excursions, and several specialty meals. Now - to the trip. The embarkation process was fairly organized and with a little patience, not too bad of an experience. The cabin was as described - I suppose a little roomier than a standard balcony stateroom, but certainly not large. My biggest problem was - the location ... it was under the deck floor for the dining/pool area. Every morning at 4:30am, I was lucky enough to have a built in wake up call. The crew would BANG, DROP, DRAG and scrape the furniture across the wood deck ( which happened to be my ceiling) without consideration to time or where they were working. I went up the first day to explain to them they were above people's cabins and they looked at me like I was from MARS. Needless to say, it continued for every day of the cruise. If I cruise on Norwegian again, I will NEVER make the mistake of not knowing where my cabin is with regard to floors above and below. It was enough to make my cruise experience not a good one. The food on the cruise was better than average - I found the specialty restaurants were very good and the RSVP process was easy. The shore excursions were fun - not cheap - but easy and very well organized. Overall, it was a good trip ... however, I'm on the fence if I'll use Norwegian for my next cruise. Read Less

I went on the cruise because of the price and itinerary…it didn’t disappoint. I was solo and the solo program is great. Geeofel Villanueva was our coordinator and did a fantastic job! This was my first Norwegian cruise. My biggest complaint was the lack of activities and that the Freestyle Daily and app were incorrect. Activities listed in the Daily weren’t on the app. Activity locations were wrong in the Daily and app. The daily programs on other cruise lines are better. There was normally only two activities to choose from and neither were very exciting. The production shows were subpar. Besides those things, the cruise was very good. The cabin was very nice. The itinerary was excellent. The staff was absolutely fantastic, especially Geeo. All of the staff I interacted with remembered my name. The staff was friendly and helpful. The Cruise Director, Pedro, was too low energy for my taste. Read Less

This was my first time on the Dawn, second on Norwegian. We had cruised on the Escape in February so I wasn’t sure I would be very impressed with the older ship. The interior was beautiful and tastefully done. Our suite was fantastic. The only minor disappointment with the suite was that the middle windows were permanently discolored, so the view was partially obstructed and these windows had an air leak in the seal that whistled when we were cruising or if it was windy. The crew was amazingly friendly and attentive. The biggest disappointment was the food. On the Escape, we were all very happy eating at the buffet in the Cafe. On the Dawn, the food was terrible and unappetizing. Burgers looked as if they were hockey pucks, roasts sat under heat lamps and dried them out so they looked like shoe leather, and choices were quite limited. Cagney’s did not have ribeye steak during the entire cruise. La Cucina gave us reservations for 7:15 and when we arrived we were told there were no tables inside for us “because they had a large party of 9” so they could only seat us in the outside area that was smoky from the nearby cigar lounge and impossible to hold a conversation because of music being played at Gadsby’s bar. It is not the best environment for an up charge restaurant. The wait staff at the restaurants are well-trained and every server we had was pleasant and attentive. The servers in Moderno and Cagney’s were our favorites. Beverage servers in O’Sheehans and Gadsby’s knew our names and remembered our favorite drinks. The crew seems genuinely happy for the most part and that helped make our trip a good one. I would travel in the Dawn again, but would love to see them up their game in the food department, especially the Garden Cafe. Read Less

I needed a cruise to get away and relax and I have always wanted to do the Caribbean. Looked into cruises and this one gave me the most islands for the dollar.yes it is an older ship with some flaws but the staff and crew seemed to go out of their way to make sure I had an enjoyable time. Only negative I had was in the spa. After a massage I got the hard sell to buy their products. Even after saying no a couple of time they kept trying to sell me product. After meeting a crew member once they knew my name and always smiled and said hello. Public rooms were always nice and clean, pool deck had plenty of room and always music or something fun going on. Nightly game shows were fun to go to. Excursions were good and a lot of variety in the choices. Read Less

We wanted an early winter mini-break so booked a 9-day out of Boston on the Dawn. We have been on the Dawn before and found the re-furbishing a major disappointment, and the reason for four stars vs five. Space is even more cut up than before with flow through just about nil. We enjoy the main dining menus and food and see no need for the many, many specialty restaurants taking up all the common space. Our cabin (mini suite with balcony) seemed smaller than usual (11102) due to the different layout. We usually cruise mid-ship but on the Dawn the mid ship mini suites are under the pool so did not want to hear the chairs scraping. One of our drawers did not stay shut but cabin steward had carpenters fix immediately. Plenty of storage (prefer the cabins with more drawers vs shelves, but still plenty) Entertainment was again, excellent, with a good variety in the various venues. Food was good - not exceptional, but good, lots of variety and plentiful. We did try LeBistro (disappointing), LosLobos (nothing special) and Cagney's (Excellent) with our "free" perk for distinctive voyage/Latitudes Platinum. While we would go back to Cagney's (with our Latitude rewards, NOT to pay extra), we find plenty of variety and excellent choices in the dining room. We never eat in the cafe (I have a food allergy and don't trust the other diners not to cross-contaminate). Service was wonderful throughout the ship. Read Less

I was interested in seeing the southern Caribbean, had done Western several times. I liked to cruise with NCL until this cruise, it had always been my favorite. Embarkation was a form of torture. Had I not booked hotel and transfer, it would have been fine, but with all the buses arriving together it took over an hour just to get in the building from the bus parking lot. The Dawn was reconditioned in 2016 and I think what they did was just put in more “specialty” restaurants that you have to pay for. The buffet was below average for any ship I’ve been on. Every night there was a lot of Indian food. Set up for the buffet was ridiculous, instead of going in a circle, each side ended, making it constantly crowded. O’Sheehan’s had the best food, it was great and the service was great. The entertainment was great. Lots of variety. The itinerary was just what I was looking for. Key West,Aruba, Curaçao, Bonaire,Ocho Rios and Grand Cayman. Cabin service was good, pleasant employees. I would love to do this itinerary again on a different ship. I had issues with the booking and very disappointing response from customer service. Read Less

The rooms were fine and overall the ship was nice. This was my first NCL cruise and since I am in my 40s I figured I would be Ok with NCL, since the crazy young crowd isn't always my thing. (we didn't have children with us either) The travel agent encouraged us to try it and I can say I like Carnival much better. The staff was just so so, not as friendly or engaging. Food was SUB PAR in comparison to Carnival. Entertainment was weak. I prefer comedy clubs and some dancing, doesn't have to be a crazy party but I was honestly bored on my cruise aside from the ports of call and my departure city. I won't give NCL another try, just not worth it. I can say that my CABIN STEWARD was fantastic. Otherwise the staff were just lack luster to say the least. They allowed for children to hog hot tubs and areas that were supposed to be more adult as well. I am sorry, (not) but as an adult I paid more to be there than your kids did and in my opinion, the rules should be followed, otherwise why have them. On a plus side embarkation and disembarkation were seamless (the baggage handlers were great as well). Read Less

We like the freestyle cruising of Norwegian. There is no appointed place or time for a given room. The list of things to do is extensive on sea days and even enough to keep most busy even on port of call days. Activities include: Fitness center, small library, Trivia, Sudoku, Ping Pong - Shuffleboard - Beanbag toss tournaments. Presentations on books and subjects, dance and card playing basic instruction. Entertainment included - comedians (yes more than one) - singing, shows, entertainment provided by the crew, game shows, sing alongs, piano playing, dancing Food - 7 specialty (for a price) Restaurants, 1 informal buffet, several grills, 2 -be served restaurants. We ate at them all (except the Sushi specialty restaurant). And of them the best was the non-specialty main dining room Restaurant (Aqua) on prime rib night. The meat was perfect as was the rest of the meal. Of the Specialty eateries - We liked them all - Japanese, French (escargots were excellent), Italian, Chinese, Steak House, Brazilian, It is hard to chose the best. BE AWARE - reservations are required at the Specialty Restaurants, if you do not plan in advance times can be a little odd. This seemed to bother some guests far more than others - it was fine with us. The Activities staff was wonderful as was all of the Restaurant Staff. Housekeeping was average. I went on one Shore Excursion - Advice - AVOID Palm Beach Reef Snorkeling on Bonaire in Kralendijk - the Reef is pretty dead (but is coming back slowly). Fitness center was quite nice. Generally we liked the ports of call. Nothing Specific to say about them though Read Less
