Wanted to take a trip with adults only. We just came off of the Norwegian Escape for a summer vacation with our children and decided to do an adult only cruise twenty-two days later. This trip was probably too close together to appreciate it as much. The Breakaway was a good size ship with plenty of on-board activities to keep you busy. I recommend The Big Top Escape, Comedy Show, Deal or No Deal, Karaoke and Burn the Floor for on-board activities. The ship only seems a little crowded at initial sea day. Pool deck seats in the shade are hard to come by if you are trying to sit with groups of four or more. I found the ladies public restrooms to be a little deprived of cleanliness and fresh smell. I'm sure the next group of people will have a different experience as I know a deep cleaning was getting done after our disembarkation due to Hurricane Dorian. All other areas seemed to be well kept with over 4,000 people on board not cleaning up after themselves. We stayed in stateroom 8766, which was the floor with restaurants, shopping and bars. I was concerned about the smoking, noise level and traffic on these floors, but the noise and smoking was not a real issue and I'm a very light sleeper. Only when you got close to large Chandelier did smoking becoming a factor. The only thing was the stateroom doors slam very hard. I always tried to manually close the door to be courteous to my neighbors, but not everyone does that. The walls between staterooms are also very thin as you can hear some extracurricular activities going on...Our stateroom attendant (Michael) was fantastic. He kept our room clean and was always around if we needed him. The room was spacious for two and had a good amount of storage for clothing with extra storage in footrest. I wish the balcony area was a little bit deeper, but still ok. Shower was bigger than ones on other cruise lines. The bathroom also had shelving and multiple hooks for hanging items. There is a easy to use safe in closet and side reading lights beside bed with little tables on each side. In order for the power and lights to come on in the room you need to put any type of card in the slot right by your door entrance along the wall. NCL would like you to believe that only the cruise card will power the room, but any card will keep the lights on. Please note that Stateroom Attendant is required to remove it if you are not in your room (no biggie just don't expect anything to be charged when you come back if that was your intention when leaving the room). You will have to go back and put card back in after Stateroom Attendant is finished cleaning up. I loved The Martini, Maltings and Atrium bars. Most of the Bartenders were really friendly and made great drinks. They are on their feet the majority of day and night and do it with a smile. So tip them out (CASH ONLY as they don't get tips written in on receipts). Please remember to have a little patience when it's busy. Also, on day one of cruise they close down all bars around 30 minutes before ship drill. Things to note: Wear swimsuit under your clothes and use a back bag/beach bag to pack a change of clothes, medication, electronics, sunglasses, chargers and any other personal items you need, as you won't have immediate access to your luggage or stateroom. The Crew Members are the ones who drive NCL business. They are the ones that keep customers coming back. I notice they work a great deal of hours throughout the cruise. However, I'm not sure that their work discipline is rewarded, other than receiving the comment cards we write up. I would recommend including perks based on accolades provided via customer comment cards. Such rewards should include free wi-fi minutes, extra hours off, special request consideration, extra leave for special events (i.e. weddings, death, immediate family birthday, graduation, etc...). Honduras was a nice spot to venture out. Our driver Cruz Argentina gave us this information as we took a taxi ride over to West Bay, Roatan Islands. The taxi ride was $20 per person and an additional $15 to get a lounge chair with umbrella. The beach was nice and the bathrooms were clean. You could order food & drinks from the Argentina Bar. Your driver waits for you and takes you back to port when you are ready. I would suggest that you offer your driver a tip or food & drink as well. Our driver said that Honduras schools always appreciates if tourist brings pencils/pens for students on the Islands. There is always a need for these school items. Belize is NCL's private island with shops. They also had zip lining & wildlife sanctuary you could walk through. I could've passed on this stop. The only reason to get off is to shop for souvenirs (the t-shirts were low quality there). Because of light winds we were not allowed to put up umbrellas and shaded spots were very limited. Pretty much every seat was taken. So finding a spot out there for even two people seating together was almost impossible. Also wanted to get my passport stamped and couldn't get it done here, as the immigration person was not obligated to be there :-( Costa Maya was a nice Island. As soon as you get off the Island there's a pool, music, lounge chairs and plenty of shopping. I believe you can swim with dolphins right there. It was crowded by the pool by the time we got off the ship, so we took a $8 taxi cab ride (around 8 minutes) over to 40 Canones and paid a minimum $20 drink/food order per person for access to beach side lounge chair with shade for a few hours. Cozumel was very hot this time of year. There is an open mall as soon as you get off the ship. You have to walk about five blocks to the right of mall to find information stand, where you can get your passport stamped (it's right by a 7-eleven). There are plenty of restaurants, cigar, liquor and souvenir shops to explore. Stay hydrated if you plan on walking around here. I think I got heat stroke from walking around Cozumel. Lastly, our ship was at sea while Hurricane Dorian was brewing. The communication during this time was not great. We found out when we were in Costa Maya that the Captain was in communication with multiple areas to figure out our ships next course of action. It seemed that skipping the final stop in Cozumel was most logical. However, we continued on to Cozumel. The Captain was waiting for further information regarding heading back to Port of Miami. On Friday August 30th before disembarkation in Cozumel, the Captain advised us to be back on ship no later than 4am August 31st. At this point people were leaving with suitcases trying to get flights out of Cancun, Mexico. At around 1pm on August 30th the Captain said that we received the all clear to head back to the Port of Miami and we were just waiting for those who were still not on board to head out. Unfortunately, many people were under the impression we didn't have to be back to the ship until 4am the next morning. Therefore, we had to wait for the remaining people that did not show back on ship until around 11pm. At that time the Captain was hauling towards Port of Miami. The next communication was when we were around Marathon, FL to say that there was a tropical storm warning in Florida and the Port of Miami would be closing at 10pm. This means we would not make it to Port of Miami in time. We missed our window to get back on dry land. Chaos ensued and the deck 6 was filled with pissed off people. Although the communication was slow and disorganized, ultimately NCL did a great job of getting people home. Any one who had booked/traveled by plane through NCL, booked air through 3rd party or drove to port fill out forms. This was to make arrangements for everyone to get back to their final destination. People who booked air travel through NCL was automatically put on the next available flights home, 3rd party bookings had to make their own arrangements and were offered a $300 credit per person (they needed to save receipts and submit for reimbursement). People who drove and parked in Miami got on chartered flights back to Miami, where they were met by buses to the Port of Miami. Anyone who used an outside park-n-ride was not able to get onto those chartered buses as the Port of Miami was not officially opened and was only excepting the chartered buses. Therefore, we had to call an Uber to get back to parking garage we used. All-in-all I think NCL really stepped up and got things taken care of. I believe that the people who are complaining were those that tried to take a proactive approach and make arrangements before seeing what NCL was going to offer. They came out of pocket because they didn't wait for instructions. Every change they made on flights cost them money that they couldn't get back for the changes they made. This was all based on the announcements made by the Captain. However, if they would have waited to find out how NCL was going to rectify the situation, they wouldn't have been out of some much money. Ultimately, we got an extra two days of vacation and made it back home safely. I would cruise with NCL again. Read Less

First time on a Norwegian Cruise ship. I have be told by others that Norwegian is the best cruise line. I have taken Princess and Carnival Cruise. My best experience was on the Viking Cruise one Seine River in Europe. Several of your restaurants like the Manhattan and Taste are at the 5 star level. My children are grown. But I enjoyed seeing the staff playing with the children and believe my grandchildren would enjoy this ship. The cabins were well designed with balconies. I enjoyed the many choices of lounges and quiet areas to rest, read, sleep or just look at the beautiful ocean. I chose to go to the beaches. I did not wish to take any excursions. I traveled with a group of 14 people who either attend my church or are close friends of members in the group. We have traveled together before. We wish to THANK THE NORWEGIAN CRUISE LINE in arranging the buses and chartered airplanes to enable us all in returning to Miami. Thank GOD for a caring Cruiseline with a caring staff who are able to plan and make adjustments as needed. A special Thank You to the Captain of this ship. Read Less

I will try to be brief and to the point. First the hits 1. Embarkation was very smooth. You go in by groups and can be enjoying the buffet by 12:30. 2. The entertainment is very good. The "Rock of Ages is killing it, however it is not appropriate for children or guests who are easily offended by sexual innuendo and scantly clad dancers. Burn the floor is excellent though I recommend their show in the Manhattan room, and it is only 30 minutes and the numbers are fast paced. The game shows are great but do depend on the craziness of the guests.I did not see the velvet show. The comedians were simply ok, same ole jokes about cruisers. The magician was very entertaining as he uses shy guests as examples. 3. Food was mediocre to just ok. I found nothing outstanding. I did not try the pay restaurants because why pay twice for food? 4. Service was again ok. I had very nice servers in the Manhattan room, Rihzel and Jeffrey were awesome. Other than that nothing special. 5. Ports Rotaan was fun, Harvest caye useless, Coste Maya a little seaweedy, and Cozumel was awesome, I went to an adventure park and snorkel for three hours. 6. Debarkation was again very smooth, off the ship in less than an hour. Read Less

Chose cruise due to dates & decided to revisit Western Caribbean due to ports. So many positives about this cruise. Food was excellent. We don't cruise for the food but it was really good, seasoned well and good variety. Buffet was great, even fish on buffet was delish. Salad bar was awesome. No way out flavors or items but a good mix and tried some new foods. We liked Manhattan a lot & wished we made it back there. Taste was good but reminded me of other cruise line dining, hectic and loud. We also enjoyed the Irish Pub (O'Sheenan's). Try the spinach/artichoke dip. Yum. Our cabin was great & our room stewardess was bubbly and pleasant. Very happy with both. Entertainment was the BEST. OMG, Syd Norman's is super fun. The live bands were surprisingly good. Went every night and loved it. What a pleasant surprise. Also, James Sullivan at Shakers Martini bar was excellent. Entertainment a step above other cruise lines. Went to Burn the Floor & Rock of Ages. Both good. But the BEST was Wine Lovers the Musical. Well worth the extra cost and Highly Recommend this very pleasant play and dining experience. So impressed. Ports were all fine. Snorkeling in Roatan the best. Mexico not so much. Now for the negatives: Bartenders were horrible for the most part. Unhappy & slow. Mostly males who took forever mixing a drink. Everyone complained about wait time. I waited 10 mins often for service and walked away several times w/o a drink. Beverage Manager needs to staff better and more tenders at most bars. Other negative was NCL allowing children in 18+ areas. NCL is so strict about other things but did not enforce age limits. & YOU CANNOT count on parents to do the right thing anymore. This should be strictly adhered to by cruise line. Child whined throughout Rock of Ages bc she was bored and mother didn't remove her. Children in Syd Norman under 18. And worst of all young (7/8) were in Howl at the Moon with pure vulgarity going on. More crude then necessary and I'm not usually sensitive to stuff. Parents let children rule this ship. Running everywhere, having meltdowns in halls, etc. Not really an NCL problem there but we do not see this on other cruise lines. Overall the ship offered many things but area's were very narrow and crowded. I have to give Breakaway an overall 4 due to Entertainment/food and cabin. Also played Trivia once in Syd Normans and had fun. We would cruise NCL again b/c of port selection and cleanliness of ship. Female dining staff and Garden Café waiters were all good and pleasant. Embarkment and disembarkment could both improve a little. Self assist slower than normal. Also, too many extra pay items. Read Less

I saw Burn the Floor twice, rock of ages was playing and Deuling pianos was super fun to watch! There is always something to do on the ship. The main pool was always packed with people and great entertainment on the stage. It took me a little bit of time to get use to the ship because it's so big.  The excursion were great! I did zip lining, a resort but that didnt cost anything, visit a Mayan family and dolphin encounter.  I see why people cruise all the time. I would do it again with NCL Breakaway! This time I traveled solo, but next time I would travel with friends and family! Its definately something to experience with others. Read Less

Embarkation was simple and easy. Went right into ship. However, very little direction given once you were on the ship. Room - Room was nice 9244. I suggest that room if you can get it as it has an oversize balcony. Service in the room is far below what we have experienced on Royal Caribbean and/or Carnival. Simply, he made our bed and changed towels. Nothing more. The issue in the room was he charged us on the first day for a bottle of whisky and a red bull. However, we had never even opened the refrigerator. We finally (on the last day) got the charges off. The service wasn't bad it was just nothing like other cruise lines. Food - Simply put the idea of free style dinning is a farce. They tell you that you can choose from many different restaurants every night that are complimentary. However, they all serve the same menu. The food was usually luke warm at best as it is made in a central kitchen and then delivered around the ship. The food was simply mediocre. I have had better food at a Dennys. The first night we ate at O'Sheens (not sure how to spell it) it was without a doubt the worst service and worst meal we have ever had on a cruise ship. We were provided three waters and then our "waiter" took our order. Then we never saw from him again for over an hour. When they did finally deliver our prime ribs, they were disgusting. WAY over cooked and not even warm. The waiter set them down and walked away without speaking. It was so bad we simply left and went to the buffet. The buffet on the 15th floor is pretty good actually. Well staffed and well stocked. The service and attendants were awesome and friendly. Food was what you expected it to be.. Shows - Burning the Floor was one of the best I have seen on a ship, Broadway worthy. However, many shows cost extra money and you had to rush on the ship to make reservations. This is no an all inclusive ship. You have to pay for many many many things. They are constantly hounding you to attend an way over priced art action that is the same art you find on almost every ship and cruise line. Comedy shows were a bit raunchy for what was supposedly a PG13 show. Casino - STINKS, smells like an ashtray. The MALE dealers were almost all rude and unfriendly. The claimed to have $10 black jack tables but then rarely opened them up. The casino is in the central walk was so you are forced to walk through it. Then they are rude to children who stop and look at the lights. The casino was a serious letdown because of the attitude of the dealers. Numerous other players complained about the contrast between the male and female dealers. COMMUNICATIONS APP - DONT BUY IT. IT doesn't work. We spent $30 for all three of us to use it. The phone portion of the app never worked,...... NOT ONCE. We couldnt even call the front desk. The text messaging simply did not work. You would send the messages and the other person would never receive them. When you are using this to communicate with children this is a problem. I went to the desk to ask for a refund and was told they would not do it as it is all done electronically. Trivia games - These games were often and fun. Allowed for lots of people to play and participate. However, it is located next to and beneath an open air bar and many times you could not hear the game or movie that was playing. The staff who manages and run these fun games was outstanding. Children's games. They had many games around the ship and a full game room. However, $160 to play a video game is unbelievable. These are games that are .25 cents. The game rooms were mostly empty the entire cruise. The rock climbing wall only had one person running it with a line 50 people deep. He was eastern European with a serious rude attitude. The head three ropes and courses but only one attendant. The wait time exceeded two hours. Even after numerous people complained there was no change during the entire cruise. Putt Putt golf course did not have enough putters or balls. The game room had many games but not one had all the pieces. This room was a total wast. Both the game room and the library were full of kids screaming and yelling. There were no cruise staff there to maintain it in any way. Internet - When it worked it was "ok" at best. However, the round every minute so if you use it for 1 minute and 3 seconds they deduct 2 minutes. Since it takes a full minute to get connected, you are charged usually 3 -5 minutes to connect. If it is NOT free, dont pay for it. \ Excursions - we did the beach and snorkeling in Honduras. Enjoyed it. However, we basically paid $300 to ride a bus to a beach, borrow a make, snorkel and fins. The lunch that was served was terrible and not very good. This was our 18th cruise and first on Norwegian. We will most likely never cruise with them again. The free style dinning is not very good and the food is mediocre to below average. I would not cruise this cruise line again unless it was an unbelievable deal. Read Less

My wife and l tried to take in everything you had to offer: Comedy shows: Excellent!!! Dueling piano bar: Excellent!!! They did a fabulous job taking requests and miraculously pulled off 80% of them JP’s Magic show: Excellent!!! Sid Norman’s Pour House band: Excellent voices, dancing and chemistry amongst the band!!! Pool party (not my scene, but it looked just like the movies with a lot of smiles, laughs and drinks... oh, and a bouncing beachball) Since the crowded pool was not my scene l was glad that we signed up for the thermal spa package. Not crowded, plenty of lounge chairs and air conditioned (plenty of heat in the jacuzzi and sauna but the AC is really nice when you need it). And also saw Velvet (a great acrobatic show set to music featuring some very talented artists/ acrobats). And everything was spotlessly clean I expected the excursions to be my favorite parts, and even though I had a lot of fun with them, my best memories were on the boat (and that doesn’t even take into account our honeymoon-related activities, which also took place on the boat). Seems most people ate at the Garden Cafe buffet. I wonder if they realize that Moderno, Savor, Taste, O’Sheahan’s don’t charge extra for bfast, lunch or dinner. The food was great!!! Read Less

We had two rooms 14716 and 13639. Both rooms were wonderful and we all were well taken care of by our room attendants. The staff was friendly and helpful through out the ship. At Cagneys they offered to deliver our deserts to our rooms since we didn't have room after dinner. The spa was a nice quiet retreat, especially, after a day in the ports. The staff was wonderful and attentive. Massage was nice and relaxing. Lots of port specials. The Vibe was nice but the price was surprisingly higher than last year.it was over $200 per person. We felt we didn't get enough use out of it to justify the price. The casino had lots of hand pays and the staff was friendly and fun. We had a good give and take relationship with the slots. I won a few handpays which always makes for an exciting time. The drink servers were very attentive. Loved the casino hosts! Always upbeat and fun. Loved going to the main dining rooms, especially for breakfast. The food was good and there was never a long wait. Entertainment was good. Really enjoyed comedy magician. Ports were fun. We booked all inusive excursions for Cozumel and Costa Maya. We will do this again next year. We had a wonderful time on the Breakaway. Would highly recommend this ship. Will be booking again. I chose this cruise for a mother daughter trip. Mom 62, DH’s 38 & 36. We started with a good embarkation. Day 1 Arrived at port June 2 at 10am and we were onboard by 10:30. So my platinum status was doing well. We headed to the coffee shop for a nice cold coffee. Ate lunch in Taste it was good. We were in our state room a mini balcony suite 11234 by 12:15. Nice space for 3. I really liked the double sink and large shower. Room Seward never did introduce himself but had several opportunities that day. Dinner at cagneys started our many mishaps. For One of my daughters I had bought her a four meal plan (other daughter was on my three free dinner plan). Cagneys couldn’t find the four meal plan purchased so they just said they’d charge al cart. I was to have my concierge adjust it later. We had excellent steaks, kinda odd that the one prime rib had a piece of fat bigger than a fillet. Never heard from concierge that day. No towel animals that night. Girls missed that just because it’s a cruising thing. Day 2 sea day- getting ready in the morning we blow a fuse? On the vanity so no plug ins to use. This was at 8 am. So we leave a note thinking they’d fix it when they make up the room. Going back to room several times during day. Room not done. It took 7 hours to clean but still no electricity. So I called the front desk and asked if it could please get done by 4 pm so we could get ready for dinner. At 4:15 it was fixed. So when they made up room they left a blue wet rag laying on my packing cube, never replaced dirty towels with clean ones, never made up couch for third person, and no towel animals again. So I had to call guest services again. Still never met room steward or concierge that day Saw burn the floor in theater it was good. After the show officers were introduced. One was in charge of towel animals. My girls looked at me cause I thought maybe they did away with them. Nope! Day 3- San Juan day. room service finally got things together after this day. Maybe we had a new one? Called concierge about daughters meal plan. He found it so I wasn’t crazy about purchasing it before cruise. We ate in o’Sheehans that day. Had my favorite Shepard’s pie. It was cold and potato’s on top were dry as a bone. Girls went zip lining and had a great time. I left a note on couch in evening for turn down service Towel animals? We have towel animals!! Day 4-St Thomas. We took kon tiki party barge and went to water island beach. Beach wasn’t that nice. Not a lot of chairs. We ate at the Manhattan dining room. Very nice Day 5-Tortola. We took Land and sea. Saw beautiful scenery. Ate at margaritaville for lunch which was a mistake. It took 1 1/2 hours to get all of our food. Which was good once we got it. Never again unless it’s free! Ate at le bistro for supper . Excellent food Day 6 relaxing sea day. We attended wine lovers the musical at noon. Show was excellent. We had a very rude group of women next to us visit the whole time loudly. My daughter and I asked our waitress twice if they could be told to keep it down. After the show was over a couple of ladies congratulated us for not knocking their blocks off. lol. They were so rude but we still liked the show. Had supper at Cagneys with my platinum status coupon. Again excellent food. Day 7- great stirrup cay. We had a small cabana and were told we had priority tender but it never happened. But I heard from other people that it took 2 hours to get off the ship. We enjoyed the beach and cabana. Headed back to look in shops before last tenders at 5. So it was 4 but the line was so long we just got in it. It took 45 minutes of waiting in line under very hot sun to tender back. My daughter had an umbrella so that helped. Would have loved to spent more time at the cabana but with the tendering situation it wasn’t all that worth it. Saw rock of ages. So good! We ate in moderno that night. Kinda a slow experience but good. So after this cruise with Norwegian I’m thinking of trying celebrity. I spoke with my concierge several times on the phone but never once did he contact me. I’m a platinum member but didn’t really feel it this time. This was my 14th ncl cruise and my 31st overall cruise. So I’m not a newby and usually not a complainer. But I just had to step in and voice my concerns way too many times this cruise. I didn’t have time to check my bill before we left but that one dinner that my daughter was charged for at cagneys was still on there after the concierge said he’d take care of it. My fault for not looking. Read Less

Just to keep it simple... the entertainment was fantastic! Cruise entertainment staff were wonderful, friendly, and encouraged everyone to participate. We took our son to Rock of Ages and we all loved it, sang along the whole time. Syd Norman’s was our favorite place all week, along with Howl at the Moon. The band, Switched, was so great as well.. I’m amazed I have a voice left. Lol Our food was really great, and it was an amazing time. Excursions.. we did Maya Cay in Belize. Loved this excursion - great beach time with a bucket of beer and no worries. We found a beach at a Harvest Cay and spent the day there. At Costa Maya, we visited the shops, had some lunch at the restaurant that overlooks the dolphin excursion, and returned to the ship. It was incredibly hot that day. Saw people being tended to by EMS, some appeared to be suffering from heat exposure and some appeared highly intoxicated. Not sure which, but either way, make sure you stay hydrated. Cozumel, do the Fury Cat excursion! Our second time and it just gets better! Highly recommend this for families looking for a fun time for all! Read Less

Cruise was pleasant but the ship was so crowded it almost seemed overbooked! Having to reserve shows and events on ship was a must. Several on ship touch screens were malfunctioning and made this a chore. Norwegian takes every opportunity to nickel and dime you with extra costs and upgrades around every corner. Ridiculous charging extra for WIFI these days! Should be included. The "only" adult pool was extremely small and always overcrowded. people waited in groves for the pool and hot tubs to open each morning so that they could actually get into the water. The room steward did a great job in keeping the room tidy. Buffet food was ok, but often gave me a case of the runs. the included cost "complimentary" sit down dinners were very nice. The excursion to Punta Gorda baths was nice. A bit over priced. Other stops we managed to find great beaches ourselves. Overall though I think if I cruise again, I will be looking at Royal Caribbean or even Carnival next time. I may even look into a flight to Punta Cana, Dominican Republic. I have heard great things about this place. Read Less

My Mother and I are lucky enough to do a "mother/daughter cruise" each year. We chose this cruise because: a. we've never been on NCL b. we had never been to Tortola We have been on every cruise line BUT NCL. What people need to know is that in Miami, before you board the ship, yo are given a numbered card. This is your boarding group. We had no idea what was going on! They finally called our number 17, all people had cards which went up into the high 20's and 30's, and we boarded. WHAT A BEAUTIFUL and huge ship! The cabin was nicer than the other cruise lines as the shower had a door and you can actually turn around comfortably in it. The dining was great! The food was fantastic. We did not go to the "fancy" restaurants that you have to pay extra and make reservations for, as the other ones were simply enough! I say that in a good way! The shows were great! Loved the comedians and the "Rock of Ages" production. The only one I didn't care for was "Burn the Floor". A lot of high energy dancing, but no recognizable music.... The service was outstanding! I was watching the in cabin tv and saw the entire crew. The show was explaining the careers of the various officers. GM, Captain, etc. Well, I was at the pool and I saw the GM and told him how I had seen him on tv and thought that he had a remarkable career! He was very kind. Next thing you know, Mom and I are invited to a party in the haven. The Haven is where the ships' most exclusive residents are located. It's quite pricey from what i can gather. The party was top notch and we had a marvelous time. Then, we get to our stateroom and find a bottle of wine and fruit from the GM. This didn't stop! Every day we had either hor de hourves or chocolate strawberries in our room! These folks really do care about their guest and I'm here to tell you! Read Less

We chose to cruise on the Breakaway since we’ve never been on it and have cruised her sister ship the Getaway 5 times. The ship is almost identical to the Getaway. We are platinum members and are very familiar with the latitudes program, freestyle dining, specialty restaurants, comedy club, shows, etc. The music on the ship was outstanding, especially the group of talented musicians in Guilty Pleasures in Syd Norman’s. Wow! Do they know how to rock! Wish the venue was bigger as they attracted a huge crowd and after not getting in the first time we tried, got there an hour early to enjoy their performance. As usual the food on the ship was delicious. However, we found some of the servers not to be as happy and competent as on other Norwegian ships. Michele Baland and Heath Harrison, the comedians on board were hysterical! What fun! The magician was very talented and taught us some magic. Mike from cruise next was very helpful and pleasant and so were the staff manning guest services. Unfortunately, we had quite a few disappointments on this ship. I’m happy it wasn’t my first cruise on the Norwegian line or it may have been my last. We booked our trip with Vacations to Go, whom we use frequently. Part of our package was paid gratuities. There was a problem with Norwegian not letting the ship know that so we were getting charged. Took a few days and some stress getting that fixed. We had a room steward that was on his first time out. The first night I asked him to please take out the extra bedding from the drawers under the sofa so we could store our clothes in them, asked for soap, ice and hangers. I gave him a tip because I felt I asked him for quite a few things. I didn’t know at that time he was new. We went to dinner and came back and never received any freestyle daily or our latitudes paper. We missed our chance to go on the ship tour because we didn’t sign up since we never got our info on time. Our steward surely didn’t know what was going on. We spoke to the 11 th floor supervisor, Richard who told us he was new and he would take care of it. Through the week everyday we were missing something. The card to change the time, a bathmat, would give us clean towels but leave the dirty ones on the floor, charge us for RedBull from the mini bar when we never even opened it nor have ever had a Red Bull. He told my husband that he was confused. We needed to go to guest services again to get that taken care of. We let things slide because he was new. The icing on the cake was the last day. We left the room to hear the Captain speak then lunch and came back to see our cabin wasn’t cleaned. It was after 3 so we knew it wouldn’t be done till the evening. We started packing up our suitcases then got ready to go to our dinner at Cagney’s then to hear a band in the atrium. At 10:45 we went upstairs to put our luggage out so we could come back down and listen to the band and dance. A nice way to end our cruise. That all came to a screeching halt wen we came back to our room to find no one had been in there. Dirty towels on the floor, no clean ones for our morning shower, dirty dishes from breakfast still on the counter, bed not made etc. I was very upset as now we can’t do what we wanted to do because we need to put out more fires! My husband walked around looking for our room steward. Nowhere to be found. He ended up getting two clean towels so we could shower. I tried calling housekeeping and the phone just rang and rang. The steward that my husband got the towels from called the 11th floor supervisor, Richard. All he said was that he was sorry! I told him that it was his fault since I spoke to him In the begining of the week about these problems and he should have been supervising him. Surely this young man wasn’t trained correctly. Since he was new and Richard was aware there were problems, he should have checked up on him. All he did was send wine and strawberries to our room. We don’t even drink. So we spent the next hour on line for guest services to complain and record our problem so that the people that sail after us can enjoy a stress free vacation. We traveled with friends who had a cabin two doors down. I don’t want to speak for them but they received wine and strawberries too! Read Less

Me and my husband decided to try Norwegian after being on 3 Royal Caribbean cruises. The ship is pretty new and clean. The cabin was great and clean we had an oceanview cabin. Things that we didn’t like: Service was very poor comparing to Royal Caribbean. I really enjoyed dining at Manhattan Room – I liked the live music and the restaurant is beautiful, but most of the time service was so slow and the selection of food was poor. I asked for French Onion soup and was expecting the cheese to be melted on top like it’s supposed to be but no, the cheese was inside (it’s little things like that). Italian Restaurant and the Brazilian steakhouse were nice! Service was better! Alcohol: We were told we could bring 2 bottles of wine which we did. We didn’t get our luggage not until very late that night. The two bottles were taken away. I did not like that they opened the luggage without asking us for approval. Apparently the corking fee is $15 for each bottle. That’s horrible. Entertainment: I enjoyed the games by the pool! It was truly a great time! But I can’t believe that they have only 1 pool for 3,000 people. That’s insane! It’s very hard to find space near the pool too. I also think there weren’t a lot of things to do on the ship. No good shows. It was getting kind of boring after the dinner. I was very excited to watch the “Love and Marriage show” or whatever it’s called. But when we arrived to the Atrium, there were barely any place to stand I’m not even talking about sits. It would be better for them to do the show at the theater, so that way everyone can sit down and enjoy it. Disembarkation day: It took us more than an hour to leave the ship and we were carrying our own luggage. It was way too long. We won’t be back. Honestly in our opinion RCI is so much better. The food, the service, entertainment was so much better. Read Less

My wife and I are avid cruisers. We're usually among the younger couples on a cruise, but we've literally cruise around the world on many cruise lines and many many ships. But, I had never cruised on NCL. After hearing some good NCL reviews from my inlaws, we all planned a family trip together and off we went... Let me start by saying our first day started with car troubles. It happens. But on our ride down to Miami we read our cruise documents and were a bit concerned with the 2pm deadline to be on the ship. The ship wasn't scheduled to leave until 4:30pm and having been on many cruises, we know some people take their sweet time getting on last minute. Still, we called NCL to be cautious (car issues we had made it a tight window to get there by 2). The NCL rep on the phone said 2:30pm was the cut off. Our in laws, who had boarded, asked and were told 3:30pm. It would be nice for NCL just to be honest and clear with this information. Despite best efforts, emergencies do occur and people need to know the honest time. If they cant make it, let them know and they can turn around before driving all the way there just to be turned around. The embarkation process was smooth as people mentioned. But no, there's no excitement, dancing or extreme friendliness. In fact, the security at the metal detector consists mainly of a group of gril gossiping about their lives and not really caring about the guests. I actually tried to make friendly comments and was ignored because they were too busy with non work related drama talk. But got on board quickly and our room was ready. It's true there was no guidance or assistance, just hop on and go find your room. Room: The room was a balcony and nice size. Plenty of shelf space. My wife LOVED the dryer in the room next to the TV as it actually warmed up and worked. Many cruises we've been on, she's left with wet hair as you cant bring one on board and well...cruise ships are notorious for weak hairdryers in the bathroom. Bathroom was larger than we're used to with plenty of storage. Shower was larger than normal and I liked the glass enclosure so you dont have to worry about water getting outside of the shower curtain because all is enclosed. Balcony was nice sized although I did have to make 3 requests which took 4 or 5 days to have the balcony sliding glass door tracks greased (it made loud squealing noises while being opened/closed which would wake the dead). Steward: a bit weird that he never came and enthusiastically introduced himself. I actually never met him but went looking for him about day 4 about the balcony door and I spoke into an opened room and he was in there cleaning. My wife said he DID check that we got all of our luggage on the first day but I guess we're just used to a formal "Hi my name is ... I'll be taking care of your room." We never had a talk, etc. But our room care was fine. Food: I researched a lot and we chose this for food quality. We were not disappointed. I never ate at the buffet (I'm over cruise buffets). Each night we went to either Taste, Savor, or Manhattan. Food was good and servers were friendly, good, and generally fast. We LOVED Manhattan. All 3 are free but Manhattan clearly shines with decor and dance floor with live music. I had some memorable deserts there. But memories of dancing with my wife were best. Taste and Savor have the exact same menus as Manhattan. Savor and Taste are the same, but across from each other. But are good. O'Sheehans: food was good. SERVICE IS HORRIBLE. I'd try to each lunch here as the menu is tasty, it's not a buffet, and it's free. First day...fine. Second day: I waited an hour and a half and never got my food. People in all tables around me would get up and complain to matrade in white uniform about not getting food, no service, not getting meals although others at table were done already, etc. But there was no look of concern on the guy's face. I sat there and attempted to not add to the drama. He never checked on me once or asked how I was. Eventually I left hungry. I order a chicken sandwich which is all I ordered. Apparently an hour and a half for a chicken sandwich isnt long enough. I went to the hostess stand and asked to talk to him. She called him and asked me to wait. After waiting 30 minutes for a seat and an hour and a half for food that never came, I waited 5 minutes and he never showed. I asked that he called my room. I walked away and a server chased me and said my food was almost ready. I refused to return after 2 hours of being ignored. Btw: I'm 6'4"...I stand out. I didn't think I'd get a call so I called guests services. He returned my call and offered to treat my wife and I to dinner at La Cucina the following night, which sounded good. But the main thing is I wanted service at O'sheehans to improve and be acknowledged. I returned the next day and he was working hard to correct the issue. Seems it took this to get things turned around. Unfortunately, the service at La Cucina the following night was horrible. We never saw our server after our order. People around us left without ordering desert although they were still hungry. Our food was "ok" but not great. My wife thought the salmon was salty. My meal was cold. We weren't offered desert under the "apologized arrangement " so we left and went downstairs to another restaurant. While there we ran into the original matrade who was wondering why we had not had desert at La Cucina. We informed him that we weren't offered it. He insisted on bringing my wife tiramisu from the restaurant and she enjoyed it. Apparently there was another misunderstanding and we should have been offered desert. Anyways, his efforts were appreciated. But bare in mind that that meal would have costs us $120 had we paid (it's an ala carte restaurant) and all meals in free Taste, Savor and Manhattan were better. O'Sheehans is definitely a sore spot regarding service on this ship. Excursions: didn't do any. We've been to these ports many times and opted for walks or beach days. Pool area: full of all sorts of people who never get out of the pool yet drink all day. HMMM...pool was always packed never got near it. SHOWS: Saw Burn the Floor and Rock the Ages. Loved both. Also see Burn the Floor at Manhattan dinner one night. They're very talented. BANDS: Jamaican band in atrium and in Manhattan played hits from many groups like The Righteous Brothers and are great. Activities: didnt do many. The "escape room" isn't really an escape room. Its disorganized and doesn't make sense. We did mini gulf upstairs and it was fun. People did rope course and rock wall and seemed to enjoy. There's 4 water slides. Didn't do casino or bingo but theatre seemed full of bingo players. If you eat at the Noodle Restaurant prepare to SMELL LIKE SMOKE due to casino smokers sharing the space. DISEMBARKING: Great and quick. Inlaws got stuck for nearly 2 hours though. Guess its luck of the draw. Fitness Center: big for a cruise. Tons of cardio equipment. Dumbbells but no barbells. 2 Smith machines. A stretching room and a spin cycle room. I liked how they didnt try to jam spa packages down your throat like most cruises. Comedies: weren't very funny. Photographs: photographers seemed inexperienced and unsure of angles, people arrangement or what to do with rude guests who walk in front of their shots. But I do like how they don't annoy you with photo attempts the entire cruise. Also, the photo area is VERY organized with photos in individual cases, not laid out everywhere. Stores: same ole same ship stores with cheap invicta watches thatv you've seen on ALL CRUISES. Gave cruise 4 out of 5. Would have been 5 if not for O'Sheehans service and watching many people experience what I did many times and on many different days. It's an issue. Read Less

Third time on the NCL cruise line. One tends to get hooked when you’ve Enjoyed one cruise...what vacation can you go on and wake up in a different country every morning, eat unlimited food, enjoy entertainment at your leisure and just relax on land or shore. Plus, meet people that are always happy and without all their daily cares? I went with my 87yr old mother and her best friend from College. We stayed in a balcony suite (which, is always nice to have when you're anywhere and want to see God’s beautiful and serene calm in the morning and sunset in the night). Embarkation was a breeze with my mother in a wheel chair. But even without it’s been a breeze and quite organized on all my NCL cruises. Disembarking took just a little longer but because we used their wheelchair service it was much faster. By the way, there were lots of people in wheelchairs and elderly. So, if your parents or grand parents would like to tick something off their bucket list - don’t hesitate. They will have great fun and get a renewed sense of not feeling that getting old means staying home. Since they had no interest in the Western Caribbean (Honduras, Belize, Costa Maya and Cozumel) - we did no tours but, we did leave the ship in Belize, Costa Maya and Cozumel. Ports were lovely and in the first two you could use their pools, free of charge and buy food/drinks, and it had shopping. Cozumel - we hired a taxi for $18 one way to Playa del Mia, paid $28 to use their pool, beaches and water slides. I think it was just a bit cheaper than purchasing a shore excursion on the ship. Food/ drinks, massages and motorized water sports were for an additional fee. There were also other choices that we could visit but my family and I always enjoy going there when we visit Cozumel. Entertainment was varied and always fun. I had been on the Getaway exactly a year before and the Bliss in December of 2018. All very similar and with great entertainment. Burn the Floor was an exquisite show. It felt like I was watching a $500 show for free. It was well choreographed, sexy, tasteful, professional and the outfits were beautiful - it was very elegantly done and extremely Then, we attended their comedy night - well, it was funny but could have been better. I had seen better before on the Getaway. The Atrium always had very entertaining events with guests as the entertainers - always a hoot. Even my mom enjoyed it! Newly wed couples, and the Perfect couples, karoke, etc. Then, since I was solo, I decided to have a little fun... so I attended the sólo meet up the first night but prospects were quite disappointing for women (ranging from 25-70). Not enough men that would be a catch or worth compromising your relationship for. Maybe because it was low season. MSo, there definitely was something for everyone. However, the evenings had fun entertainment from 10pm (salsa dancing, line dancing, glow night, pure Finally, staff were great, food was good not Disney great but acceptable - always lots to eat so one could always find something. And you’d never need to spend a penny at the specialty restaurants. Just don’t bother with the Shanghai Noodle complimentary restaurant - better food elsewhere on the ship, especially in the Garden café. And to work off the food, there were Stretch, Abs and Yoga classes every morning at 7:00am -8:00am, as well as, a great gym. After, one could relax in the Breakaway’s Thermal Spa, using their sauna, steam room, thermal lounge chairs and bading for some alone time before you set out to a smorgasbord breakfast and day of fun or just more relaxation and sun. ALL in all a fun time. Just one last thing - get a porter to help you through the lines and immigration (if he knows the ropes). Don’t know why people chose to self assist with their luggage and not use the luggage system on the ship the night before. It made getting off easier the next day and without having to wait for an empty elevator with lots of Luggage. Finally, if you intend to rent a car - I highly recommend using Enterprise car rental with their free shuttle bus going to and from the Miami airport. But you must have a confirmation to show the bus driver. NCL gets to be addictive and looking forward to another cruise before summer is over. Read Less

We chose this cruise because some friends had been on a Norwegian cruise in 2018, and they had great things to say about it. We decided to take this cruise to celebrate our 20th wedding anniversary (September), we travelled with another couple also celebrating their 20th anniversary (June). We had an absolutely amazing time! There wasn't a moment we weren't on the go and loving everything we did. We were on the ship for seven days and there is still so much we didn't do. The staff was great, always ready and willing to help with a smile. There is always someone to help you find something awesome to do while on board or even at shore. They will even help find other guests that are looking for similar things to do and introduce you. Our cabin was spacious and comfy, our steward kept it tidy and perfect. The food was amazing, everywhere we went. There was never a time that we had the same thing at the same place. The ship is massive and provided so many things from entertainment to relaxation. We spent a day in Miami before embarking, mostly shopping. We arrived early to board the ship, we did have a little time to wait before getting on. Once we were on we started exploring immediately. Enjoyed a few drinks while we waited to set sail, there was entertainment on the pool deck. Any time we left the ship it was a bit busy but the staff entertained while we waited in lines for our shore excursions. We travelled to Roatan, Belize, Costa Maya and Cozumel. There was shopping at each port right off the boat, I preferred Cozumel, but each port had it's cultural souvenirs that are worth checking out. If you're looking for a great pub night.. go to O'Sheehans, awesome food and lots of things going on all around you. In the main atrium there is always something going on there.. movies, comedy, music or my personal favourite was the game shows that brought contestants out of the audience, definitely a must see if you are on this ship. There was even bingo in the theatre almost every day. I would definitely travel with Norwegian again, and I would certainly go on the Breakaway again. Next time we will be bringing our kids, there were so many things we said "they would love to do that" . Read Less

Cruise director was wonderful. Waitstaff was kind, rooms were always clean. Atrium bartenders were not great. Shakers was amazing, as were all fine dining experiences. Entertainment staff were a hit or miss. Some were wonderful, others were rude (without much of a reason) towards guests -I can recall the female British insulting another guest rather curtly and want too impressed. Costa maya is a bust of a shopping port, could do without it as a port since there wasn’t much to do and most of the shops are repeats of one another. If you fond something you’re interested in excursion wise just do it. Although there aren’t many interesting excursions in Costa Maya, which was a bummer. Harvest Caye is a letdown without the drink package. The beach and pool were fine if that’s how you’re looking to spend your day. Cozumel is wonderful! We went to Chichen Itza and loved it! Our guide was knowledgeable and entertaining. We wished we had more time in Cozumel. Roatan is nice but a bit dodgy in some areas. Just pay a cab driver to take you around the island. Read Less

I have been going through some personal problems. MY spouse and my Doctor suggested a cruise, because every one knows how fun they are and they thought it was the perfect thing. Well the first night the maître de was very rude when we asked to be put on the list for dinner. The hostess tried to be nice and told him that they still had a whole section they had not opened yet. The Maître de was very rude to her and told us it would be 30 minutes. NO problem, went tried to get a drink while we waited. No wait staff anywhere. So we went to the nearest bar and ordered drinks, it took 20 minutes. At dinner the wait staff were working very had to keep up with everything. That was impossible for them. We keep running out of water, he forgot our bread basket. NO smiles, no apologies, he was just to busy to care. Everyday was like this. One morning I just had to complain. The service was so offal and food was terrible. I was so upset I spent 2 hours crying in my room. We made it into 2 shows Jungle Dreams and the rock show. Both shows were fantastic. The food and service at the Jungle dreams show was delicious and on point. We tried to get into some of the bars, the lines were long and over crowded when we did get in. NO wait staff again. some clubs had standing room only. we didn't like that very much. so we ended up watching tv in our room a lot. I would never recommend this cruise line to anyone. The waitstaff was rude and practically not there. I fact I am thinking about suing Norwegian for a full refund. And medically setting my recovery back. Read Less

It was our first family cruise with 2 kids. I do not even know where to start .... the staff were amazing, our cabin was always clean, beds made, fresh towels... and every time we would come back from all our activities, there would be an elephant, or penguin, or a puppy made from towels.... kids absolutely loved it!!!! The highlight for the kids, was of course... Splash Academy!!! Kids never wanted to leave that place:) They organized kids to perform and dance on a stage, painted there faces, it was great show!!! Best kids show ever!!! And while kids had fun, we had even more fun!!! There is an ice room, where you have a few drinks while dressed like am Eskimo... it’s really cold in there. Piano dueling performance, stand up comedy, casino. On one floor we found great live piano performance....I have not danced like that with my husband since our wedding 10 years ago. Do not even let me start on food... it was outstanding!!!! Caribbean, Asian, Nexican and my favorite, Italian!!! We ate lot’s of Tiramesu cake:) Everyone were very polite, thoughtful and organized!!!! It was smooth sailing ⛵️, we felt great, no motion sickness at all!!! Big shut out to Captain Matko Candrlik for a safe and smooth sailing!!! We started planning another trip while we were on the ship:) Read Less

We got a good price for a ocean view room but really booked this to see New Orleans. Harvest Caye was the biggest let down as everything except the pool and the beach costs extra and your drink package is no good off of the ship. For me paying $5.00 for a beer is a bit much. On Harvest Caye that beer was $8.60. We enjoyed the beach and then went back on the ship and had a drink. Cozumel is a good shopping port if you like to play the game. My wife purchased earings for her sister that started out at $580.00 . 2 beers 4 shots and walking out of the store once we paid $160.00. 1 ct. mystic topaz stone with a diamond crown. Did we pay to much? Dont know but it was fun. Costa Maya had us and two other ships at the same time. You couldnt even walk down the street withought bumping into someone and if you are wearing a full backpack do not go into a store. A lot of those shops will charge you for the items that you break. The cabin 5828 was small but always clean. Had a problem with the outlet in the bathroom and it was fixed right away. Sea days did not have enough things to do in the ship and not enough pools for number of people. Bars were always busy and all seemed to be short staffed. We had 3 speciality dining included and went to Moderno twice. Both times had problems getting something to eat. Second time there asked for the head waiter and finally got served. Cagneys was much better. The ship itself was great except for allowing the smoking at the casino. O sheenhans was right above and you could not get away from the smell. The one positive thing that impressed us was that in our last 19 cruises this one was the quickest on and off that we have ever had. We waited maybe 10 min for our number to be called to get on and we walked right off at the end of the cruise. Read Less

NOLA was a blast as always, got there the day before. We parked at Fulton Garage without incident, no shuttle wait at all. Breakaway embarkation at noon was fast, painless. Traffic there is a nightmare with the construction. I have no idea if parking at the pier was any easier. Stayed in cabin 12780. Excellent location right by the front stairs. A forward facing angled balcony, the extra room out there was nice. Little to no noise from the kiddie, elevator area and on spring break, forgot it/they were there. The balcony was not too windy, very pleasant. I found the provided soap, wash, and conditioner adequate, your mileage may vary. The tap water was perfectly fine, taste free. Bring 3 way plug extenders vs power strips - they will confiscate those if they find them. Glad I brought both. We also brought a Bluetooth speaker, no one complained about the music, but maybe that was just our exceptional taste. La Cucina was our favorite Specialty dining followed by the Cirque dinner show. (Cirque menu is a planned Surf & Turf) Word to the wise, they really were pushing the T-Bone at Cagney’s and La Cucina. Steer clear of that & you will be OK. In fact the La Cucina filet with ravioli on top was the best I've ever had! No kidding! The entertainment was all great. Rock of Ages is not to be missed, unless you are prudish, lol. The Glow party was a blast, the teens on spring break did take that over a bit, all good! The UBP was amazing, the bar waits by the pools could get long, however there are a couple carts that had beer and drink of the day, those never had lines. The best bar IMO is Maltings. Also try the bar next to it with the Aperol! Yum! Boardwalk Syd Normans bar is 2nd for the laid back outdoor view. Early morning bloody marys are found only at the Atrium bar. Grab one before going to Savor for a nice sit down breakfast at 7:30… did I say early? The sushi at Wasabi is awesome with great prices, great for a light boardwalk lunch. The Rock N Roll with rock shrimp kicked it! The noodle bar was a good too, and included! The main pool can be a crazy sea of humanity, fun for a bit, but not very relaxing. Chair hogging is ridiculously rampant. We simply did not stress over it and could always find loungers in the sun or shade somewhere. When we were done we packed up and found a different & sometimes more fun location later, no problem. Spice H20 at the back was our go too place, and generally the bartenders there were pretty quick. The front of the ship has an area too next to Vibe. That bar is smaller and can get a line. Most folk at all bars were courteous and paid attention to who was next, vs thirstiest. O'Sheehans was always fun, good bar food, TVs, draft beers, quick service. We always do our excursions independently. At Harvest Caye you must be off the boat first thing and get to the marina to get the first ferry to Placencia. They will not sell you 9AM ferry tickets from the ship and the ferry always gets full. On Car Rentals in Cozumel - If you rent a jeep or car there make sure the gas attendant zeros the pump out first and make sure you are clearly above the tank mark where you picked it up or you will get dinged. I always video the entire car in the presence of the rental agent at pick up too. Disembarkation was the smoothest I've experienced. So unless you have to get off super early just let the ship deal with your luggage. Read Less
