We chose this ship for its touring of Glacier National Park and for the onboard amenities like race track, laser tag, etc. What strikes me is the utter lack of good service. Every restaurant we went too, the servers were not happy and provide only basic service. You had to ask multiple times for refills. They reached over people when serving, even spilled water down the back of some poor lady. Often they pressed themselves against me to reach across the table to fill coffee and water. The served our food in random orders, some getting soup while others got appetizers and then serving the others soup while the remaining got soup.It appears they have not been trained on proper serving techniques. Often, you have to flag them down to get items forgotten. We paid a surcharge and ate at all the upscale restaurants. Found 3 hairs in our food at Ocean Blue- one in salad, one in my son's drink and one on our steak. We pulled them out and let them see them. They apologized but we left...this is the restaurant that you pay for specialty fees and then pay another surge of 12 per person to eat and believe if or not, after essentially paying 3 different charges to eat here, if you order lobster or shrimp, you will be charged an additional fee. Once again, the service was slow, inattentive and ungracious. The food in all of these restaurants was just okay. We did not attend one bar or one restaurant where the wait staff was happy or civil. The noise on the ship is at a very high decibel. It is very unsettling. The cruise director screams in the microphone near the main areas , restaurant and coffees so you can't enjoy this areas unless you can stand the LOUD annoucements he makes as he plays games. The Buffett was pretty highly traffic and loud. Seats very hard to find. The observation deck is where most people went and camped out all day, sleeping and sitting on the floors. It was soothing and quite a beautiful area. Bartenders here are the happiest We are pretty laid back and don't expect a lot but the basics are lacking on this ship. This cruise line charges you for everything they can think of and its wearisome. You reach for you wallet every minute. All said and done, this ship costs a great deal more than others that offer a much better product. From what we heard from fellow passengers, this cruise was not a good one. I would rate this cruise below average in food, service and entertainment. Honestly, we regret going on NCL. Princess, Royal or Celebrity would have been same dollar wise. Read Less

As an experienced cruiser, (this is my 9th cruise) I expected this to be a very relaxing and enjoyable itinerary. Unfortunately, this ship is definitely not designed for Alaska. A tremendous amount of space was devoted to pools, water features, outdoor dining, race track, mini golf etc. Most of the time, these things were closed due to cold temps and high winds. Once we saw some of the incredible scenery, there was no place to sit. You were basically forced out on deck which was very cold and windy. The observation lounge was the only interior space but people were 3-4 deep at the windows. You couldn't see anything. (and the windows were quite dirty) I do want to give the National Park Service kudos. They boarded the boat in Glacier Bay and did a terrific job narrating the points of interest, pointing out animals (whales and a bear), and generally adding interesting history and culture to the park. Finally, a good use of my tax dollars! I do believe the staff tried their best to accommodate all the passengers as this was a very full ship. However, their management needs to do a better job of providing processes and procedures to keep passengers informed. For example, I tried to participate in a wine tasting in the Cellar the first day at sea. The head waiter was so flustered with 25 people trying to sign up. He really lost his composure. There were so many people because few instructions were provided on how to make reservations, what wines were being tasted and what the additional costs were. It was really an avoidable issue. Also, anything you pre-booked from the website for dinner, shows, etc. didn't load into the schedule on the ship's tv or reservation system. The reservation thankfully showed up at the venue but because you couldn't see it, I inadvertently overbooked my activities. This was disappointing because I couldn't rebook one of the shows. Also, skip the specialty restaurants on this ship except the steakhouse. I went to the Italian and Mexican and both were horrible. Definitely not worth the additional cost. While the steakhouse's food was good, the prices were high. The wait staff needs more training. I tried to order one of the wines featured on that night's menu but he didn't know it - it was also sponsored by the cruise line. Another waiter tried to serve port wine over ice. I would also recommend Norwegian look into changing the itinerary for this cruise. We did a morning cruising Glacier Bay, a day at sea, a morning in Ketchikan and an evening in Victoria. Back to back, it felt like we were confined to the ship for 3 days. They needed more time in Ketchikan and Victoria. We were only in Victoria for 2.5 hours. It took longer to get off the ship and into town than we were in town. And, because we were there in the evening, many of the stores and restaurants were closed. It was a waste of time. Overall, skip this cruise. Wait for winter when the ship will be in the Caribbean. Read Less

Went on NCL Bliss for the excitement of a better ship with go-karts vs the NCL Epic and Escape. The Jersey Boys production was outstanding. The Havana show was good but not my type of show that I would want to pay for. The Observation Lounge/deck15 was the best part of the ship. What I was disappointed in were all the chairs and lounges in the Observation Lounge and Atrium. They were all very uncomfortable. People were laying on the fabric chaise lounges in the Observation Deck without towels underneath them. Questioned the sanitary conditions of those Observation Deck lounge chair fabrics after their use. The dining ( complimentary areas) was just ship food (some good some bad). Found the servers very good in the Manhattan Room. Had dinner one evening in Savour Restaurant and found the service to be poor. Did not eat in any specialty restaurants. The Meet and Greet with the ship personnel was excellent. Beds in stateroom felt uncomfortable as compared to the NCL Epic and NCL Escape. As to the cabin, never met the room Steward but the cabin got cleaned twice daily. The ports were nothing special, we primarily were on the NCL Bliss for the newness of the ship. There was an abundance of children on board and I would attribute that to free perk of 3rd and 4th passenger goes free. Although, we love children, we found many of them running out of control throughout the ship. Even saw them sliding down the rails on the stairways just outside the Manhattan Room. Very unappealing. We are Gold Latitude Members and usually purchase future cruise certificates but as a result of cruising on the NCL Bliss, we have decided to no longer sail with NCL. Read Less

I was so excited to finally go on the Alaskan cruise, but ended up disappointed in the overall experience. The staff in the restaurants were grumpy and the food was mediocre. The mini-suite was very small and there was barely any closet or drawer space. However, the Norwegian Bliss is a beautiful ship and the entertainment on board was great. We didn’t get to the glacier because of a medical emergency on board. I understand, but it is also the reason most people go on the cruise and the line should have made better arrangements to get seriously ill off the ship. It was a beautiful day and calm day so weather was not an issue. The salmon fishing excursion in Kethickan was outrageously expensive. Our boat got 3 keepers but some of the boats didn’t catch any. The best excursion was to Mendanhall Glacier and whale watching, well worth the money. The White Pass train was also a fun experience and the scenery was breathtaking. There was way too much wasted time at sea and stopping at British Columbia at 4:00 pm and departing at 10:00 pm was a complete waste of time. Overall, the Alaskan cruise departing from Seattle on the Norwegian Bliss was disappointing to mediocre at best. Read Less

Alaska was our bucket list. We booked far in advance and were so excited. My husband and I traveled from Arkansas w our 12 year old and my in laws. Our stateroom with balcony was very clean and spacious. Our stewardess was wonderful. The cruise in a nutshell was terrible. Incredibly crowded. Specialty dining, go carts, laser tag, and spa needed a reservation.. that could not be booked until on board. Once getting to our room spa was booked up, laser tag booked. Laser tag.. addtiontal cost. Go carts the only reservation available was 1030 at night.. $10pp.. too cold to swim.. shows were not kid friendly.. lots of cussing.. if you are not a gambler, kareokeer or heavy drinker this cruise is not for you. The activities on board included napkin folding and towel folding classes... let that sink in... $10,000 cruise with additional $400+ just for entertainment. $6 a game to bowl $2-$3 for arcade games. Juneau and Victoria were the only ports worth seeing. In Juneau we did a float plane and it was amazing. Burchart gardens in Victoria are stunning. Disney cruise next time and what I recommend for SURE! Read Less

We just returned from our cruise on the Bliss for my parents 50th wedding anniversary. This trip had been planned for almost a year and all of us were looking forward to the cruise but were getting nervous after reading numerous reviews before going. We had 7 adults and 4 children with us (ages 6-10). The boarding process went very smooth I think we were on the ship within less than 30 minutes, but once we boarded that's when the chaos started. Once on the ship we went straight to reservations for the go carts and the lazer tag, four of us were in different lines trying to make reservations. This took about an hour and half to get tot the front just to be told that everything was booked. We did actually get reservations for both by complaining throughout the cruise but both attractions weren't even really worth it. But, if you or your kids really want to take advantage of the go carts my sister heard someone talking about a week long unlimited pass for $99, not sure it you would just wait standby to use the pass. I felt like you could probably just wait by the line whenever you want and get on. If you like the idea of waterslides think again. The slides are only open a few hours of the day and they only have two of them. One of the slides is a drop slide that they won't even let you go on unless you are over 100lb, which left our kids to only be able to use the one slide. The hours of the slide are a joke, I think it was open from 11:30 - 2;30 and again for another hour or so. It was hard to see them close the slide on a beautiful day with nothing else to really do on the ship. If you are taking kids I would really think twice there is very little for kids to do on this ship. They do have an arcade but the games are anywhere from $2 - $5 each. This ship is constantly trying to nickel and dime you for everything. As for the food it was pretty lousy even the bigger restaurants. We did go to the Manhattan Room, Savor, and Taste and they all have the same menu, I guess they just try to make them look different. The buffet is not very good just okay. We finally broke down and went to the steak house on the last night and they told us they were full but would squeeze us in, the place was empty. The food was okay nothing crazy, but not worth the $300 we had to spend. LIke I said earlier there really isn't a lot to do on the ship. The highlight of the trip was the "Jersey Boys" show, Havannah wasn't very good. But really, only two shows for a seven night cruise! Also, the drinks were excellent! I highly recommend the drink package, pretty much all we did was drink since there wasn't much else to do. And yes the elevators are horrible, stick to the stairs. I hope this helps some of you guys I could write all night about this cruise but I'm tired. And just remember this cruise is a good chunk of change for most of us that is why I took the time to right this, there are many other ships out there with a lot more to do than the Bliss. Unless you don't want to do anything but sleep and eat, and spend as little time in the ports as possible this is the cruise for you. Good Luck Read Less

This is by far a revenue- money maker cruise for NCL and not about the best possible “Guest” experience. With over 4000 cruises NCL “missed the boat” when it comes to “ public” venues...with over 4000 Guests and plenty of cabins they did NOT have public spaces large enough to accommodate a group of this size and everything needed a reservation but was sold out within hours of boarding and up charges for everything?!! NCL has lost their ability to offer “freestyle” cruising but has enhanced their ability to pack people on a ship causing overcrowding but for sure this ship has become a money maker for them! Their Management team had the worst attitude and rude and did not aim to please from Cruise Director to Hotel Director to Group Leaders to Staff...so many rigid rules that benefited NCL but NOT the Guests! Safety issues for sure! On a positive note- food was great but service was slow and Jersey Boys Show was excellent while Havana Show put me to sleep! I loved the single Studio cabin! I have cruised with NCL over 12 times and have been pleased with other ships but I do NOT recommend the Bliss. The PORT of departure experience was the worst ever...no bays for buses and nothing but traffic jams trying to board/disembark from the city streets of Seattle-hard to believe NCL did not have a better plan for a ship with so many passengers?! Best part of this cruise was viewing the beauty of Alaska but that can be done on any ship with any cruiseline NCL needs to step up to compete with other cruiselines for the best “Alaskan” experience!
