Although we were supposed to cruise to the Mexican Riviera ports of Puerto Vallarta, Mazatlan, and Cabo San Lucas on Oct. 20, 2018, due to Hurricane Willa, the caption announced during our first evening at dinner that we would be headed to San Francisco, San Diego and Ensenada instead. This new itinerary was not only frustrating and disappointing, but inconvenient, since most people had packed for hot weather, and had little, if any, clothing and shoes for the 59 degree temperature in San Francisco. Yes, there is a lesson there to pack for every possibility of weather and temperatures in the future, but it was also disappointing since many Californians on board, including me, and probably others also, didn't want to see those cities, which were a few miles from where we boarded and live. I realize we couldn't sail into a hurricane, or rough waters, but perhaps there may have been some more interesting ports outside of California selected by NCL. NCL definitely knew prior to our departure that the itinerary would be changing and notified no one; we were not given a choice to board or not, even though the decision to sail to ports headed north, rather than south, had been made prior to our departure. I never would have selected a cruise sailing to ports in California and if given the choice, I would not have boarded. Choosing to make the best of the situation took some time to get adjusted to for all of us. As a family we had to make decisions of our own on how to change the course of our attitudes. So, now on to the positives...we DID have a very nice week as a family spending time together, eating, being entertained, and being pampered. The Cruise Critic Meet & Mingle was coordinated well in the District Brew House with samples, appetizers, and many ship officers and crew members. The service we received was excellent everywhere, especially in the restaurants. The food was delicious across the board, the production shows were good, and the ship is gorgeous! Our balcony cabin on deck 13, port side, aft, was quiet, beautiful, and a good location. We had fun on the go-carts, playing laser tag, using the slides and pool, at the parties, at the daily activities and using the beautiful observation lounge to relax. The ship itself is truly impressive and it's easy to have a great time! We had a very nice week on the ship - I just wish I felt like I traveled somewhere. Read Less

We were on the October 20th sailing of Norwegian Cruise Lines brand new Norwegian Bliss, only 6 months old. We arrived at the cruise terminal at 11 a.m. and by noon we had gone through security, picked up our cruise cards, dropped off our bags, and were comfortably resting in the new huge observation Lounge on the 15th floor. Norwegian has done an excellent job of making the check-in process virtually painless. We enjoyed six of the seven nights in specialty dining restaurants such as La Cucina, Le Bistro, Ocean Blue, Los Lobos, and Cagney's. The two Production shows were fantastic, Havana and the Jersey Boys. Originally our cruise was going to Puerto Vallarta, Mazatlan, and Cabo San Lucas but due to a hurricane going to Mazatlan, the captain diverted the ship North to San Francisco, San Diego, and Ensenada. We really didn't mind because the ship was a great place to bar hop and enjoy the many entertainment venues on board. We especially enjoyed the many venues of live music. Strongly recommended and we can't wait to our next Norwegian Cruise! Read Less

We chose this ship because it was the newest ship. This was our first cruise and the Norwegian Bliss is a brand new ship. We have always wanted to have the experience. The room was a bit small, but the extended balcony and bathroom made up for this. It was helpful to have space underneath the bed to put our stuff. The cruise was very expensive. We wouldn’t be able to travel as a family due to the cost. The kids will have to wait till they’re older to have this experience. Our excursions were shortened and not long enough to visit. A 12 to 14 day hour would allow for more time to see the sights. We loved the performers in the sugarcane, the variety of foods offered, the jewelry selection and art onboard along with a Starbucks was very much appreciated. The charge for yoga way too much and the overall experience was not that great. The charge for wi-fi was unbelievable. We learned what it is we’re looking for our next vacation. Taking a cruise is the way to vacation. 7 days isn’t long enough. Read Less

We are NCL Platium members, having sailed on many NCL ships. We booked the Bliss as its a new ship. First 4500 passangers is too big especially for the ship's resources. The crew was unahppy and unfriendly and it showed it everywhere (there were 4 staff exceptions only - Cruise Director, Joseph in Smokehouse and 2 Cruisenext staff)). Managers were always frowning and disapproving. The restaurants were booked before the cruise and we had to wait to get in and then it was 5:15 or 8:15. I will commend the La Bistro and Teppenyacci as the quality I expect on an NCL ship. The rest was mediocre. The ship had 1 pool for 4500 guests. Smaller ships have 2 pools -downsized for a bigger ship - why? There other NCL ships and a pool side grill - this ship has taken that out and replaced with with Margarettaville for $ 14.95 for a burger that is free in the buffet Prohibition was a fun show. Jersey Boys which was closing after this cruise had medicore voices at best. Havana was as amateur as I have ever seen except 1 bearded dancer and the 2 female singer leaders who were really good. This ship was over crowded everywhere. The staff pushed the buffet for meals as the other restaurants were overwhelmed. Do yourself a favor and look for a smaller ship than this ship which was big enough to fail. Read Less

Inside cabin 12th deck met our expectations, plenty of room for the two of us. 1st stop Ensenada La Bufadora - really cool but be aware, you have to walk about a mile from where the bus drops you off thru the gauntlet of Mexican vendors! I suggested at the excursion desk upon return they should make a specific note on the distance walking, the desk Mgr. clearly was not interested in my suggestion stating the excursion was already rated as moderate indicating the walking required. 2nd stop Puerto Vallarta - Las Caletas & John Huston private island. We thought the price was a steep for what you get but it was a beautiful place. We took the cooking class and enjoyed the food, was really good with the open bar. Beach is not quite as they describe in fact at high tide there is little beach at all. Would recommend just one time, it was very pretty. 3rd stop Cabos - We took the catamaran sail over to Santa Maria cove. Easily the best excursion, we swam with thousands of fish, of course it helps when your tour guide releases food for the fish. Would definitely recommend this. Hurricane turning toward us prevented a stop at Mazatlan. Sad we could not visit but understand. On board unlimited go carts was the bomb, really really fun. Had read difficult to ride, but did not have that experience. Food - clearly the cruise line would love to just shut down the main dining room and have you go to the buffet or pay extra for the specialty restaurants. Very average FREE food! Entertainment - sad the days of fun entertainment every night in the theater is gone. The Jersey boys Valli lead singer was not quite on point, we understand hard to find someone with that tone for sure. Overall the show was fine. Havana was also fine, would have rather seen another USA type musical or show. The other nights were filled with miscellaneous shows not really worth watching so really just 2 different shows. For those smokers - just be aware if you like to smoke, you have a small little corner near the bar at the very back of the ship to smoke. I personally am not a smoker but why that entire area near the bar is not open to smoking was beyond me. Overall very average, getting onto the ship and off was really easy. We stayed at the crown plaza across the street from the port and did the park and ride which was really easy and I would recommend if parking your car for a week. Read Less

We love everything about NCL. The ship was beautiful! Only complaint is the elevators. Very slow and packed. We would wait for a long time, one would open up and a group of people just walking up would rush in before us. I wish there was a way to remind others people have been waiting and to not cut. The food was very good. The casino was very nice and having a separate smoking area was a huge bonus, our group stayed in a lot longer to play since we didn't have to deal with smoke. The pool was a little packed but I assume that would be common on an Alaskan cruise lol I think it sucks they don't have better planning for heavier people that want to use the big slide. My husband waited in line to to turned away in embarrassment for being 6 lbs over the weight limit. Also in this time era it is VERY common for piercings, my daughter-in-law has a nose ring that needs to be professionally removed, due to this she was not able to use the slide either. Again, she waited in line and was told at the TOP she could not use the slide. Read Less

Prior to the ship being built , I booked. I followed this vessel for months and read countless posts and reviews-this is unadulterated. I wish I continued on the next 8 day sailing! The embarkation in Vancouver was sketchy-but it was their first time with the Bliss. From the moment we boarded it was special. Our cabin (13844-balcony mid) was awesome and clean. The Garden Café fantastic-no problems with food or seating as prior reviews stated. Met a great gang at Spice H2O and we gelled (smoking section)...so I missed all other meet and greets. La Cucina was fabulous/Cagneys was good/ Le Bistro awesome...Savor and Taste great...didn't care for the Local.Mario and team at Spice H2O did a great job at bartending and providing exceptional service. Jersey Boys good, ample theatre. The Beatles show awesome! The Casino was also great-wish more machines but they played nicely!!! the waiters and waitresses were phenominal, food exceptional, drinks great, our cabin steward was so so...do the racing experience! I wish they get rid of Margaritaville-it was dead space. Elevators were also fast-not as many reviews stated. What I realized is that you cant please everyone....many passengers would try to cut lines, complain about trivial things, not respect the staff...it is sad. I met many seasoned cruisers who loved this experience for a larger ship I believe I got hung up with many posts and prior reviews but this was exceptional! If staying in Vancouver-Sutton Place is phenominal! Victoria a nice stop, San Francisco was good-did the Hop On Hop Off and not disappointed-only disappointment was the behavior of a few folks who wouldn't disembark for customs and the behavior of the mob to get back on! The only other thing I can say-the karaoke was dull and machine wasn't good....met many nice new friends from all over! Many friendly people! A few that should have stayed home! Read Less

My husband and I booked this coastal cruise on the Bliss from Vancouver to LA just to experience this huge new ship. The cruise was only 5 days so we were very busy just trying to see, find and experience all the fantastic things she had to offer! Of course the go-cart racing was one of the big attractions. We didn't participate but had fun watching all the excitement and fun that everyone was having. The dining rooms were elegant and the food was plated nicely, served hot and tasted delicious( this also included Los Lobos, Cagney's and La Cucina, Garden Buffet and the Local) Will have to plan another trip to sample all the other restaurants! The shows were Jersey Boys and Havana and the Social Prohibition...Wow...top notch and very professional. Music venues and lounges proved to be very entertaining and very popular with all age groups. Getting on and off the ship was seamless, immigration in San Francisco was a bit rough but being a new ship with that many passengers, I am sure they will get the bugs worked out before the next sailing. As usual the staff was inviting and took extra special care of us. All had a smile and something pleasant to chat about. The décor, staterooms, public venues and restrooms were extremely nice. My only complaint was having to wait an unusually long time for elevators. There are only 2 banks for the entire ship. 8 forward and 8 aft. This was an exciting new ship to cruise on...she certainly has ALL the bells and whistles anyone could ask for! Give it a try, we think you will enjoy it. Read Less

We have cruised on 7 different cruise lines and been on over 45 cruises and this one was one of the best!! We were a little concerned when we read some of the negative reviews on line. The ship was absolutely beautiful!! The layout of the ship is very easy to navigate. We loved the observation lounge and never had trouble finding a seat. The staff and management were the best we have experienced on any cruise line!! The food and menus in the main dining rooms and in the specialty restaurants were very good. We dined at Le Bistro twice, Cagney's, Ocean Blue and Food Republic and the main dining rooms. We loved our mini-suite!! It was nice to have a big shower and two sinks! Our room steward was excellent! The management was all over the ship and very friendly!! The staff did an excellent job of providing gluten free food in all of the venues. Getting on the ship and off the ship was the quickest and easiest we have experienced! The entertainment choices were great, although we would have loved the player piano bar!! The spa was wonderful- they should institute a no saving policy for the heated loungers and you should only be able to use if you are on the lounger!! There were times where most of the loungers had stuff on them but no people for long periods of time!! Thank you to the management and staff for making the cruise experience special!! Looking forward to our next trip on the Bliss!! Read Less

1. when NCL Bliss came to Seattle, we were expecting Epic kind of service or amenities. But the Bliss was way worse than what we were expected. we paid $9000 for 4 of us in same room, the room doesn't have enough closet space or drawers for our close, have to 2 of us has to use our luggage, placing at the middle of the room. 2. can you imagine the Specialty Restaurant served the exact same dish as regular Main Dining Room? ( in this case is La Bistro & Manhattan), it's a rip off. we were on Heaven Category so we got to dine at Heaven Restaurant but the quality was not as good as before, NCL used to serve special meals for each destination like Mediterranean Cruise with Seafood, Alaska Cruise with King crab leg, but with the Bliss none of those (even with Pearl, they don't serve it any more) and the selections are getting scares ..... 3. the dining room hours are so limited you have to rush yourself......... otherwise you end up eating in your tiny room....... the Concierge wasn't helpful unless you pile up the green notes upfront....... very realistic. I do give extra tips for those who worked behind the scene, wait staffs or housekeeper daily...... they are hard workers and were almost at the point being abused by NCL the Only reason I chose NCL is because of my MOM, who is wheelchair-bound, I like the free style..... but the Bliss isn't made for , or accommodated for Handicapped persons. Showroom alone is not made for one...... the wheelchair area were not made for watching the show unless you are really tall, my Mon can sit there but can only watch the wall in front of her..... the rest of the handicapped seats are those 2 rows down the stairs and only have one opening out........ not recommended..... One more thing, you have to check your bill diligently or NCL tend to over charge you unless you complaine. Read Less

I was so excited to finally go on the Alaskan cruise, but ended up disappointed in the overall experience. The staff in the restaurants were grumpy and the food was mediocre. The mini-suite was very small and there was barely any closet or drawer space. However, the Norwegian Bliss is a beautiful ship and the entertainment on board was great. We didn’t get to the glacier because of a medical emergency on board. I understand, but it is also the reason most people go on the cruise and the line should have made better arrangements to get seriously ill off the ship. It was a beautiful day and calm day so weather was not an issue. The salmon fishing excursion in Kethickan was outrageously expensive. Our boat got 3 keepers but some of the boats didn’t catch any. The best excursion was to Mendanhall Glacier and whale watching, well worth the money. The White Pass train was also a fun experience and the scenery was breathtaking. There was way too much wasted time at sea and stopping at British Columbia at 4:00 pm and departing at 10:00 pm was a complete waste of time. Overall, the Alaskan cruise departing from Seattle on the Norwegian Bliss was disappointing to mediocre at best. Read Less

...the printed info that you are given is misleading. There are different food packages that you can purchase. The printed info you recieve will suggest you have many more options for "free" or covered places to eat than you actually have. You'll sit down, order, then find out, opps this place isn't covered by your package even tho it says it is on your info page. Also, on our cruise, there was a medical emergency. Someone fell down some stairs. The Captain announced that he was going to forego going through the glacier fields (which was the main highlight that most passengers were looking forward to) in order to get to Juneau a few hours sooner. What I and every passingger that I talked to wondered why they didn't helicopter the person to a hospital. Especially when you are asked to purchase additional insurance to cover being helicoptered for a medical emergency. Finally, Jersey Boys was great! Read Less

On that large of a ship there should have been more areas.I guess smokers are considered second class citizens,I wont use this ship again. The food at buffet was decent. The other compimentary restaurants there was an extra charge. So we did'nt go to those. Also we had ice delivered to cabin, then found out there was a 14.50 charge. So from then on we got our ice from the restaurant or bars. The drinks were great.Entertainment was hard to book,it was always booked up.The best bar was outside on the 8th floor, had a great bartender.Excellent job and very easy to talk to.All told it was a decent cruise, beautiful ship.Bed was very comfortable. Went on Emerald Princess ship last July & wanted to try NCL's newest ship BLISS. My wife & I were definitely pleased. Just a beautiful ship with great amenities (food, entertainment, excursions, facilities, & activities). Service was outstanding. Best part was the Observation lounge located at the front of the ship. Beatles own Britain's Finest rock group, Prohibition comedy, and Jersey Boys were the highlights of the activites (but there were other performances as well!) on board. We ate at a specialty dining restaurant every night. 5 of them were provided by NCL's upgraded deal. The other two were comped to us because we are Platinum level guests on NCL. Cagneys, Teppanayaki, Ocean Front, Le Bistro, etc were among the specialty dining experiences we enjoyed the most. The Buffet, Savor, & Taste restaurants were just fine as well. Let's not forget The Local Pub (O'Sheehans on other NCL ships) which is 24/7 open. Loved the casino....especially poker and blackjack and craps tables. Cabin was on 9th deck aft....balcony stateroom. Very nice...very clean! Alaskan Ports. as usual, were wonderful. Paid only $45 to ride Ketchikan trolley bus to see the salmon, bears, & the bald eagles. Went on the railway system in Skagway (do not bypass this trip!). Fun & informative Highly recommend Bliss as it will soon leave Seattle/Alaska to take passengers thru the Panama Canal & end in Florida for Western & Eastern Caribbean trips this winter. Enjoy! We NEVER had a bad meal on the ship, this includes the buffet, the complementary dining, and the specialty restaurants. Every show we saw was great especially Jersey Boys (which we saw twice). All the live music was great especially Siglo and the Beatles cover band. All the staff was polite and was able to answer any question we had. I selected this cruise because I have always wanted to see Alaska. I have several friends who have made this journey and they all said that they trip was amazing. I have to agree and I must say that Norwegian played a large part in that! Now, that is not to say that we didn't have some hiccups...but they were all in the registration process. There were mix-ups with some of the extra packages we purchased. The first occurred when my roommate paid for her excursions and somehow my excursions, which I had already paid for, "disappeared" from my trip summary. My roommate made one phone call, spoke with an extremely apologetic and helpful Norwegian representative, and my excursions immediately reappeared on my trip summary. Our other experience was not so simple, when one of our party was informed that her thermal suite package cancelled after she had paid for it in full in July (and had the e-mail confirmation to prove it). She was also told that due to the fact that the number of people who can use the suite is limited, she could not just have her package reinstated. Correcting this situation required both my friend and our our travel agent to spend SEVERAL hours each on the phone. They both spoke with Norwegian representatives who were not only not helpful but seemed overtly hostile. However, when it was finally settled, the package was reinstated and Norwegian had two bottles of wine and a $50 onboard credit waiting for her when she arrived onboard. These experiences just before our cruise had my whole party slightly skeptical about Norwegian. However, our experience onboard was simply wonderful. The ship was brand new, shiny and beautiful. The embarkation process was the quickest and smoothest I've ever experienced with any cruise line. And the cabins were the most spacious of any cruise line I've ever cruised with before, with tons of room for storage and, bless 'em, a nice-sized bathroom. The shows we saw were fabulous, especially Havana! The sets, the costumes, the performances...EVERYTHING!!! Mary Gutzi in the lead was AH-MAZ-ING!!! The dancers, especially a young man named Edson, were so talented! Their rope number was absolutely mesmerizing! This production was just as good as anything I've seen on Broadway. Our excursions were also wonderful. We went whale-watching in Juneau and were fortunate enough to not only see sea lions and whales but we actually saw one humpback breach the water! My friends and I actually got both photos and videos of it. We were so excited!!! But we probably loved our train ride in Skagway--the views of the White Pass were just breathtaking. And our final excursion was a horse-drawn trolley ride in Victoria...it was quaint, relaxing and informative, all at the same time. Now, we were blessed with unseasonably nice weather for our entire trip so that made it extra special. The only time we even needed jackets was on our whale-watching excursion and we only got a slight drizzle on rain for a couple of hours in Victoria but then it cleared up and the rest of the evening was beautiful. I NEVER book a balcony room but for this trip I was told it was a must and I have to say I'm so glad I did, especially when we cruised Sawyer Glacier and saw the blue ice! We saw whales from our balconies, as well as glaciers (too many to count) and numerous smaller iceburgs. The food on-board was excellent and there was a variety to choose from. The wait staff in the restaurants were gracious and accommodating. I enjoyed the Starbucks and the gelato shop, too! Our cabin steward, Ray, was one-in-a-million. If you spoke his name, he appeared as if by magic. My friends provided him with decorations and he had my cabin decorated as a surprise for my birthday after we returned from dinner. He was just so sweet and also unobtrusive. Although we had some hitches pre-cruise, the trip itself more than made up for it. I would definitely cruise with Norwegian again. Read Less

I will start with the positives: - If you're a single or older couple with no kids, this cruise MAY be for you - Good options for entertainment - Paid/ upcharge restaurants were definitely better than included ones - Alaska ports made the trip worthwhile Now, for the things we do not like and why we will never choose Norweigan again: - Maybe because the Bliss is so new, this could explain the utter lack of organization of the staff - Food at Buffet, Taste/Savor (same food) and Manhattan was very mediocre (at best) with no place to sit in the buffet restaurant - Our room (10-154) had a horrible banging/knocking in the walls and for 3 straight nights I go ZERO sleep, for a vacation it was unbearable - The spa passes were pointless and way over priced (again with kids, it's very difficult to coordinate since the kids clubs closes for 2 hours chucks all through the day) - The arcade and bowling machines will charge you repeatedly whether you used/ played the machine or not (and the way we were treated when we brought up an extra $6 charge was atrocious...) -Staff on cruise aren't empowered to do anything. So, if you have issues you have to write a complaint post cruise and they say it takes up to 15 business days to get a response - The app is trash and they charge you $9.95 per person to use it - Most things were constantly closed down (laser tag, mini golf and race track) which attracted us in the first place - Most things on ship are an extra cost so it's a constant nickel and diming vacation - Not a lot of family friendly activities - Havanah was just awful (as you will see in every other review) but there was really no need for the actors to light up real cigarettes in Jersey Boys (it was disgusting and made the whole theater smell) - The common spaces like the observation area are ALWAYS packed and people put their gross feet on the furniture and no rules are enforced. NOTE: We had a balcony but if you get an inside cabin it will be very hard for you to find a "common space" to relax and enjoy when there is anything to see outside - No drawers/ clothing space for fmaily with kids (if you're just 2 people, I imagine the closet space would be fine - The worst traffic flow I've ever seen on a ship. Elevators are always packed and no one wants to make space for new people (so you will be climbing 5-10 flights of stairs all the time to get where you need to go) - Captain decided to not go to the glacier which was a huge selling point for us. Given all the equipment they have on board it was more of an issues of not “wanting” to rather that not being able to. Why not save their gas and effort, right? We literally turned around. Overall, this is a cruise where the food is bad, few options for families, the staff is not empowered to make anything right which means absolute HORRIBLE or non-existent customer service, over-crowded ship with poorly planned traffic flow, this was not a vacation this was a total disappointment. As with anything, we have each other so spending time together was the best part but I would not waste money with Norweigan (they appear economical but after being charged for EVERY SINGLE THING) they are way more pricey. I will be booking with Disney Cruise from now on until kids are older (they have exquisite food, service and pretty much everything is outstanding). Read Less

We chose the cruise because of the show Jersey Boys. The show was wonderful. All of the entertainment on the ship was excellent. The ship was clean and well staffed but the staff often had language difficulties. Overall, the price for the cruise, compared to the quality of the cruise, was too much. We have traveled to Australia for two and a half weeks for less than this cruise cost us. We felt like we were nickled and dimed to death by the cruise line. There was an additional fee for the go karts and one of the theatre shows. The dining was rather disappointing. There was a large selection of food in the cafeteria with the buffet, but the food was usually just warm and the quality was mediocre. There was not a restaurant that served brunch. The Mexican specialty restaurant was awful and overpriced. The steak and BBQ restaurants were pricey but excellent. The beverage package was the best deal for the money on the ship. Don't waste your money on the water package, the ship's water is just as good as the bottled water. Read Less

We cruised to Alaska last year twice on the Ruby Princess and it was such an inspiring journey, I knew we wanted to go back. This year we decided to return on NCL Bliss because it was big and new and sounding very exciting....and it was. We sailed out of Seattle and the embarkation was a breeze, very organized and very quick. But the scene outside the terminal.....a zoo! NCL docks downtown Seattle at Pier 66, not at Pier 91 outside of town like Princess. The terminal is directly across the street from railroad tracks and adds to the chaos. The public street is narrow and with all the buses, taxis, limos, shuttles, and private cars it is very challenging just to get to the drop off location. The taxi drivers made it even worse by stopping in moving traffic, moving street cones, and cutting across lanes to the curb. So just be warned, especially if you are dropping someone off or in a private car. The ship is beautiful with lots of entertainment, over-the-top buffet, and plenty of bars and eatery's. The shops are all very pricey, not like most other cruise lines that keep prices competitive with the ports. You cannot bring water or beverages of any kind on board and the Unlimited Drink Package is expensive ($89 per day) and does not include water or brewed coffee. In fact the only specialty coffees on board are at Starbucks and that is not part of the cruise or beverage package....it is pay per drink. Lots of speciality restaurants you can pay to dine, or eat in the buffet, 3 included dining rooms, or the awesome cafe called The Local. This is a pub-like bar and eatery. They have the best breakfast, fish & chips, and lots more food, including an amazing tortilla bowl. Best part is they are open and serve off the menu 24 hrs! They also have a bar and seating around the atrium on deck 7. I want to give a huge shout out to one of the best little excursions we have had on any cruise. It is in the Port of Juneau, called Alaska Pedicab-Juneau. They are local and can usually be found at the dock or in town to escort you around town or just from the ship and back for about $5. But you can arrange for a 90 minute tour of town and landmarks around town for $90 that includes 2 people. It was fantastic, so personalized to where ever you would like to go. The owner, James took us all over downtown and to some of the historic monuments and statues dedicated to the town's history. He also took us out to Whale Park where we got a great picture of the news view in Juneau. Be sure to look up Alaska Pedicab-Juneau. They also have a Facebook page. And finally the disembarkation back in Seattle was so easy. We picked the Port Valet service as it is FREE! Your bags are picked up the night before docking, the ship checks in to your flight and delivers your boarding passes and bag tags to your room. Your bags are taken directly to the airport for your flight and you don't pick them up until you are back at your home destination. We got off early with our carry on luggage and was at the airport before 9am, our flight was at noon. So simple and easy. Read Less

This was our first ever cruise and we thoroughly enjoyed the ship, the itinerary, the crew and the meals. After reading the somewhat mixed reviews of the ship and trip, I was slightly concerned about our booking. While there were some small items that could be improved, it was a really great trip. As others have noted, it’s a large ship and thus you need to plan ahead to carve out the optimal vacation. Service was consistently friendly and thoughtful. The room steward was fantastic and the dining staff great. (For context, we dine out often and typically stay at 4 and 5-star hotels so have a high expectation for service). Below are some more specific thoughts to help plan your trip: • We were in a mid-ship mini-suite – 12824. Cabin was very nice, bed was super comfortable (billed as a queen but felt more spacious). Sheets were so-so soft and the pillows we’re ok (I brought one of my own). Plenty of storage, spacious bath room. Balcony was perfectly fine/spacious. Given how much there was to do and the fact that you’re in Alaska, we didn’t use it a ton but left the slider door open every night to get a fresh breeze while sleeping. • Plan ahead. This is perhaps the most important thing to do. We book all our specialty restaurants and entertainment the day it became available to do so (120 days prior to sailing, I believe). This allowed us to ensure we got in the restaurants we wanted at the time we wanted. We also booked the Thermal Spa Pass ahead of time. Also, we planned to board early so that we’d be able to secure passes to the Vibe Beach Club, which is super important. We didn’t have any issues booking excursions but did plan these a few weeks in advance. • Thermal Spa Pass: For a fee ($129?), you can get a full week pass to the spa which was important for us. I provided a great place to get away from crowds and offered a beautiful viewing area. I’d highly recommend this. • Vibe Beach Club. I’d also highly recommend this. This area provided a sanctuary from the crowds as well. For ~$139/week, you get access to a “private” deck with its own bar, cabanas, loungers and hot tub. Was amongst the best part of the ship. The crew here (Ruby and Randy) were soooo friendly and helpful, ensuring our every need was met. Again, we’re in Alaska so it can get cold up there; however, there are blankets to use to keep warm. While I believe they sell ~75 passes (not certain about the number, but limited), we never saw more than 10 people at a time on the deck. Run to the guest services to get these passes. • Spa services: This was the one area where service was not great - - there was constant upsell throughout the process to book a massage; and post massage, also an attempt to sell you products. The massage itself was great – I asked for deep tissue and was almost crying because of the pressure - - a good thing for me. • Restaurants: Our favorite was La Cucina – dined there twice. Delicious food, tasty wines and great service. Ocean Blue was also great - - both food and service. Cagney’s food was very good – service was perfunctory at best. Teppanyaki was really fun – with good food/service. Q was so-so, food was OK as was the service. We ate at Taste/Savor for lunch and both of these were perfectly good – busy but the staff is accommodating. Coco’s for crepes was delicious. • Cellars Wine Bar: Would highly recommend. Great wine selection and very helpful staff. Throughout the cruise, they have wine-classes you can take (for a fee). Was really fun and informative. • Common Areas: The Observation Lounge and the Garden Café can get crowded. The Café was often a zoo – with so many people for breakfast. We grabbed breakfast there but then took it to the Observation Lounge which worked must better. Also, some of the crown can be a challenge – e.g. kids running around, bare feet on loungers, poor manners. Overall not an issue, but at times a distraction. • The overall ship furnishings and décor are really beautiful – first rate and very nicely done. In sum, would highly recommend this ship and the Alaska trip. We’d definitely do it again. Read Less

We chose this boat because it is a brand new ship, started sailing just two months prior, and we loved the itinerary. The stops were great, we loved the excursions chosen, food was good, service was great, and we took full advantage of the drink package. We enjoyed the shows, bands, live music, trivia, and hot tubs. I was surprised there was no lobster served in the dining room - first cruise I have been on where this was not on the menu. However, the food was food, and we would sail on this boat again. Our first stop was Ketchikan where we did off road vehicles through the woods. This was a great tour. We wish it would have been longer. It was about twenty minutes out and twenty minutes back, but it was so nice to be outside. We spotted a mother bear and two cubs which is a rarity. We felt really blessed to have seen them out in the woods. The tour guides were kind, and informative. Our second stop was Juneau where we decided to go whale watching. We chose Alaska Galore Tours because they had small boats. We were on a boat that held 15 or so along with a boat captain and tour guide. We learned so much, and saw 5-6 whales turning in the water about 15-20 times. Unfortunately, it was raining, but we still would have chosen this tour again. We were supposed to go by Sawyer Glacier, but the weather was too bad as it was very cloudy and icy. We still saw some beautiful scenery from the boat, and it was a lovely evening on the balcony. Finally, our last day was in Skagway. My husband and father-in-law went on a helicopter to walk around on the glacier. it was short, 20 minute ride out and 20 minutes back with about half an hours walking around and learning about the glacier. We would recommend. We also did the train ride up the mountain. It was informative, beautiful, and again, we would do this same tour all over again. The bands at night were great, especially the guy in the piano bar. He was funny and incredibly entertaining. My in-laws loved Jersey Boys, the broadway show. We would absolutely sail on Norwegian and on this same boat again. Read Less
