The ship was very clean and the staff were very friendly and helpful overall. The food in the buffet was usually cold and bland, sometimes inedible. It was incredibly busy up there and difficult to find seating. Other complementary dining was fairly bland as well. The speciality restaurants were much better and if I cruised with NCL again I would only dine there. However, I don’t think that you should be forced to pay extra for a decent meal, the food that is included should be edible as well. The temperature on-board was too warm. Entertainment was very good. Jersey Boys was high quality and the female comedian was excellent. I avoided most of the “activities” on-board because they were just an excuse for staff to try to sell things. I often felt that I was on a week long timeshare info session being bombarded with up selling. Nothing is free on NCL. The spa was the worst and I knew what to expect going in but I was even surprised. I went to a “hair show” where they were supposed to talk about hair health, the best cut for your face shape, etc., and give away a free cut and style to one of the attendees. They jammed 8 of us into a corner and a very rude salon worker came out and said he specialized in hair loss and they scheduled the wrong time for the hair show so he’d be talking about that instead. We were trapped in the corner for 40 minutes as he tried to sell his special $3600 hat to us. None of us struggled with hair loss. He said he would give us a free consultation but told us repeatedly not to waste his time. He was rude to one 17 year old girl who seemed disinterested during his lengthy presentation and asked her to repeat what he had said and clapped in front of her face. I was so mad when we were finished because he wasted 40 minutes of my time. I felt that I couldn’t leave because I was physically squished into the corner and because I find confrontation uncomfortable. Also, there was no giveaway for the cut and style and I wanted to see a hair show. It was a complete scam. I complained to the manager on the phone afterward and she said there was confusion about scheduling. I explained that the employee was aware that wasn’t what we were there for but he went on with his high pressure sales pitch anyway. She said she could offer me a consultation for my hair but after that experience and having now complained I was not comfortable going back. Also, someone who went to the session was entitled to a free cut and no one got one. I wouldn’t have even cared if I didn’t get it, but if you promise something like that you should follow through. Other activities like bingo were extremely overpriced for the amount of prizes given away. One package was $60 and the bingo jackpot was just over $100. That’s outrageous. You have at least 200 people buying tickets between $30 and $60, that’s a minimum of $6000-$12000 and your total prizes are $600? Not to mention that the cruise staff took forever calling the numbers so that they could sell you more stuff in between. It was painful, not fun. The atrium being where most activities were held seemed like a poor design to me. There wasn’t enough seating there and it was very loud. Again, most of the “activities” were cheesy or a way to sell stuff, but even if it was something I was interested in I would avoid it because the space was uncomfortable. Also, the service counter and other desks were in the same area and it was impossible to hear them when you needed help. Overall the cruise was good. The new ship was still in very good condition which was a huge plus and it seemed clean and well maintained. I just wish that I didn’t feel like I was being nickelled and dimed every step of the way. I knew that about NCL going in but I was worse than I anticipated. Read Less

Disappointed in the lack of service in our stateroom, had to deep reminding the steward to empty trash, provide toilet paper, tissues and towels. Very disappointed in lack of space (seating) in the public areas like the Atrium and Observation deck. Also found that much of what we wanted to do was already booked on our first day. The cruise skipped going to Ketchikan due to weather, but no additional activities or entertainment was provided. Very bored at that point. Comedy club booked, specialty restaurants booked, Disembarking at stops was chaotic and long, should have been better managed. On a positive note, the food was very good, no matter which dining room we ate in, although finding a seat at the Garden Buffet was so difficult, if we already had food, it was cold by the time we were able to sit down. Everything on board was so expensive. Would not recommend Norwegian. Read Less

The ship was beautiful, new & the service was good. My first time on NCL previously cruised on Carnival(would never sail again) and Princess(was excellent). Heard so much about Alaska unfortunately it was such a letdown. The ports were terrible Juno, Skagway and Ketchikan are tiny, depressed/little towns with a few blocks and the same shops that are probably owned by the cruise companies themselves, Diamond international, Tanzanite international etc. Here you could be at each from 8-11 hours at these ports. Trust me you could walk around each of these towns and be back on the ship within an hour. Glacier Bay was OK sad to see how global warming has really had an effect on glaciers there really isn’t much to see. The nicest port was Victoria British Columbia. Where we had only 3 hours, you arrive at 8:30 pm-11:30 pm! Ridiculous The nicest town & we arrive at Night!! At night most of the shops and restaurants are closed. Disappointing how this was done logistically. At Victoria BC make note it takes 25min to get to town by shuttle bus(long wait line) majority of shops/restaurants are closed. When onshore at all ports expect to pay $74.99 for 1 Alaskan King crab LEG!! The food on the Bliss was awful I give it a 4. Breakfast was good, desserts were ok (6) but lunch and dinner was just awful (2). Majority of all options were very ethnic and spicy if that’s your preference. For a cruise to Alaska I would expect to have an abundant option of seafood dishes. The Seafood dishes were awful very hard to get a simple fish dish that wasn’t spicy, over cooked or full of sauce! The complementary restaurants are basically Buffet but being served by a waiter. You could only substitute sides but you can’t ask for a dish like the Thai spiced Tilapia dinner cooked plain...very disappointing not many different options each nite! I was told I’d have to go to the alternate restaurants and pay especially for any Read Less

First, let me say that we have not cruised in about 10 years. We are retirement age people who cruised often as a family with our 2 children. They enjoyed it more than we did. Recently, we decided to give it a try again and visit some cities we've never been before, namely Victoria and Vancouver in British Columbia. In the past, we cruised on Royal Caribbean, Celebrity and Princess. These were standard size ships (2,500 to 3,000 passengers). The Bliss is a new (almost 1 year old) "Mega" vessel with a capacity of over 6,000 passengers (although the ship lists it at 4,000 passengers). And despite its immense size, no matter where you go, you were always jammed in with a huge crowd of people. On this ship, be prepared to do a lot of walking. From the back end of the ship to the front (or other way around). Or going up or down stairs from one deck to the next. The elevators on the ship were always jammed with passengers all day and night long. My wife found it very difficult to get around, having had knee replacement surgery recently. • I'll list all the "pros" of my experience first: • Entertainment: "Jersey Boys" was the best show on the ship. Standing ovation. Get your seat a 1/2 hour before the show starts, because it fills up fast. "Havana" was a good latin song and dance review. Elaborate costumes and stage decor. The stand-up comedians were terrific, hosted by Tim and featuring Jay Black and Larry Omaha. Book your seats on your first day on the cruise at the theater asap. I did not go to the Cavern Club shows. Way too late for us. However, "Siglo", their resident rock band that played at functions around the ship (the atrium and the pool) throughout the day were awesome. Be sure to go to the functions at the atrium, there's a lot games and shows with lots of audience participation. If you can find an empty seat, grab it fast. • Food: The best specialty restaurant for us was Cagney's steakhouse by far. Great Prime Rib (16 oz). La Cucina was good, not great. But "Q" was very disappointing and hardly anyone besides us were in the restaurant. I guess they got the word of mouth on it. The main dining rooms are good, The Manhattan room is the best of the mains, be sure to book a dinner reservation (even in the main dining rooms) or else you will wait in a long line before you are seated. Beware the breakfast and lunch service in the main dining rooms are slow, but sometimes a better alternative than the buffet. The Garden Cafe (the buffet, on deck 16) is a mad house. It's the largest buffet restaurant we have ever experienced anywhere and you can have ANY kind of food that you can imagine (asian, italian, mexican, deli, salads, on and on). But you have to scramble to find an empty table and you have to dodge and weave around the other passengers getting their food. Overall, the food at the buffet is standard in quality. Our cabin: see my separate review • The observation lounge: what could be bad about lying on a long lounge chair with a pillow behind your head and overlooking the ocean along with a drink and a snack, This is the observation lounge, a quiet area one deck below the buffet. • The Cons: • The elevators were always jam packed! I would have taken the stairs if my wife wasn't with me. • Excursions: because of scheduling problems, our time at the cities were very limited to a short quick afternoon. Plus, because of the number of passengers, we were very slow in disembarking the ship. Very frustrating. Overall, the cruise had some great aspects with a few not so great aspects. If you come in with a positive attitude and are not annoyed by the bad aspects, you'll have a great time. If you read this review you will know what to expect and figure out how to avoid the bad and indulge in the good. Good luck. Read Less

This was our 13th cruise, first with NCL. We have cruised Carnival, Royal Caribbean and Princess. This was by far the most expensive cruise of them all. We have friends who swear by NCL so we thought we would give it a try. We thought embarkation went smoothly, we were in boarding group 1. I will say from a technology standpoint, they seem to be behind the times. We thought the ship was beautiful, but way over crowded. They had a lot of events in the main atrium which opens up to one deck above. It was soooo crowded they had folding chairs for the overflow...seemed very cheap and not comfortable at all. Also, it was so loud you couldn't hear yourself think. Another observation is the hallways are so narrow due to having single cabins in the middle of the ship. This made walking down the halls a struggle due to cleaning carts, not to mention if you came up on a large person or wheelchair, you literally are stuck. We purchased the specialty dining package for each night. We do this on each cruise and do so because of the attention to detail and awesome food. Goodness, what a disappointment. The worst was La Cucina. We were not even acknowledged when seated, didn't receive bread and had to basically beg for refills. We both ordered filet with one being medium and the other medium well. They were both burned to a crisp.....and we had to ask them for a knives. The time between servings was also 45 minutes. We tried Teppanyaki (best of all), Los Lobos (below average food and slow service), Cagneys (fair) service was slow. We ended up cancelling all reservations for the remainder of the week. We received better service in Margaritaville, Food Republic and MDR. If not for these last three....dining would have been a total fail. The service and food in these last three were awesome and saved the day. Shore excursions were a hit or miss. We did Dolphin Trainer for a Day in Puerto Vallarta and it was a hit. I give it a 10 out of a 10. We did city boat tour in Cabo. It was awful. By the time we arrived (herded like cattle) we were placed with another excursion group (obviously same thing but called something different) and there were no seats together left on the boat. Really? You are going to put us on a boat for a tour with no seating left? We got of the boat. This was a huge disappointment. The entertainment was mostly good. We went to the comedians, Havana, Beetles show and Jersey Boys. We just wish there were other options. We don't mind the Broadway type shows, but love how Royal Caribbean keeps it interesting. They will do one production show but then the other night you could get a circus soleil type show. We got bored. The ship was sold out....kids everywhere that were unsupervised. This got old real fast. Also, our neighbor kept smoking on their balcony. I tried calling guest services multiple times, forget it, they won't ever answer. If you go down to the service desk, get ready to stand 50 plus deep in line. Another observation both my husband and myself noticed, what is wrong with most of the crew? They seem so unhappy and do not go out of their way. Our service was not terrible, but nothing awesome like other cruises we have been on. We chose to have a good time despite the things that bothered us, but will likely never cruise NCL again. When you spend more money and get so much less.....its a no brainer. Read Less

We chose the ship because it was the new big ship, it is new and big but very crowded because so much of the ship is taken up with the go cart track and private areas on the main decks. The service from the wait staff of great but customer service is beyond bad, they do not care about any issue you have. We do not complain about anything but the power went out in our room couldn’t get anyone there for several hours. Asked several times if one of the three TVs in the pub could be changed to the ncaa tournament and was told sorry we can’t do that even though everyone in the pub wanted the same thing. The adult area in the back was closed everyday at 530 for a special event, it seems odd that we pay for a cruise and large portions of the ship were private a lot of the time including bars and restaurants, if you are going to allow groups to rent out part of the ship we should have been told before hand because it was everyday. Overall ships have started charging for more and more things that used to be included now they limit where you can go during your vacation. The food was Golden Corral type good everyday. The dining room now allows hats and swim suits, no lobster or decent steak that’s in the past. For a ship this size it’s lacking activities, the pool and hot tubs are packed and there is not a lot of activities around the boat. Read Less

We upgraded our 2 rooms to balcony; NCL put us on different floors quite far from one another. We have 3 kids 10 and 9, so it wasted a lot of time going between the 2 rooms. Our room person was just O.K., did the minimal functions, our kids attendant did better considering our kids were messy and our boy did have a few accidents wetting the bed. As far as the food, the buffet was great, way better than Carnivals. The seating in the buffet restaurant is way better too, with enough space to be comfy in. The main dining restaurant was poor as they actually forgot about us after our apps; we left after 45 min of waiting for the main course. Carnival has Guys restaurant and a Taco type restaurant which we loved both; Bliss did not have these free options, but should in our opinion. Carnival tops the Bliss for kids and us when it comes to entertainment. We went on the go carts once, the kids had to ride with us. The main issues were that the guy you see to get on was giving guests a hard time. He told us that our card was declined and to see customer service, which C.S. said our cards were fine. When we went back he was telling another customer the same story. That customer persisted and eventually the attendant said his card now worked. I don't know why he was doing this but the next day he told us the same thing, we just left and immediately went to laser tag and our card worked fine. Also on the go carts they seem to over control your experience and continually slow down the carts remotely. As far as the night time bands, I know preference is part of it, but Carnivals options were much more palatable to the ears. Carnival seemed much more upbeat at night whereas the Bliss seemed low energy with little to do. The worst part of our cruise was that 6 out of the 7 nights they shut down the spice bar area and stage for a private function. Just so happens we smoke, and that is the smoking area. We were moved upstairs with few ash trays and no bar. It did not seem right that we paid full fare and were not provided with areas we paid for. In all if your a family with kids I would recommend Carnival Cruise Lines, unless you want a real laid back sleepy experience where the vibe is not family oriented. Read Less

In one week they only have 2 shows in the Theater, a 3rd show in the theater was basically a repeat of a short length show that is run in one of the smaller lounges each evening. 3 restaurants with the identical menus. You might consider they would have a different theme dinner in each restaurant - not so. The meals were generally good & in most cases service was good with some exceptions with filling water glasses was poor. It seemed the waiter staff had more tables to serve than normal causing on this cruise not the best service we are familiar with. Our stateroom was small which was located on the 15th floor & happened to be across from a large crew workroom that had carts rolling in & out starting around 7AM & a vacuum running between 7-8AM. On sea days 2 side by side lounge chairs were hard to find around the pool but with 4,000 passengers on board that is to be expected. The pool size for this large cruise ship was very small & on sea days was very crowded. The bar service around the pool we found was good. Guest Services (on the ship) were very helpful vs our Travel Agent & who the travel agent booked this cruise with. Read Less

Could not swim in it. There was always too many people sitting around it to get into it. It was like one big sitting bar. It is 6 feet deep also. This is not good for someone who wants to go I to the water and be able to touch bottom. No shallow end. This ship is not well designed for 4000 plus passengers. Long wait for elevators etc. We did not use the race track or laser tag. I did hear they were booked fast. We did enjoy ourselves. This was our first cruise. If we were to cruise again we will look for a smaller vessel. We enjoyed our vacation. Thank you Norwegian for your amazing staff. Read Less

We took this trip for my daughters 21st birthday, she turned 21 on the day we sat sail 1-12-2019. What a way to celebrate your 21st right.....Hold On.. We love Norwegian. We have been on 5 cruises with them. Each one better then the last...Until now!!! Ship was nice, big, plenty of space, never felt over crowded, except at the pool. The staff was not the same friendly staff as as you would expect from Norwegian. At times it felt as if we were bothering them. From little things like a cup of ice at dinner, or the ketchup is empty can we get another. Sometimes we would never see the staff again after we asked for something. Just strange. One of the big complaints I had was, one day at sea, we had our towels on chairs , at the pool, on the upstairs deck, and a staff member came to me and said that he was going to remove our towels because the chairs we had, were not being used? I explained to him that my family was in the pool. He made me call my family from the pool, to come sit in the chairs, so his supervisor could see that I wasn't just saving them for someone. He told me he got a complaint from a guest that the 5 seats were empty for a long time and she wanted a chair. So I guess every time you want to go to the pool, hot tub, bathroom, bar, eat, you must give up your chair? Now everyone know don't come up to the pool at 11am and expect to find a seat. It not going to happen. Then there was the go carts. They advertise a 1 day pass( unlimited rides) for $29.95. When I went to purchases it they told me they were not selling that pass on this cruise? Then why is it advertised on the web site? When I asked The woman she said, just because. Nice answer. She said they sold the weekly pass for $199.95 but they sold out? When my Son and his friends went to ride them that night the were just doing a walk on (No reservation) they got there at 8pm, the staff asked if they had a reservation they said no, they made them wait 40min to ride. NOT ONE PERSON CAME UP THERE TO RIDE WHILE THE 4 OF THEM WAITED. UNREAL. Staff told them reservations come first. There are a few other things but this is getting long. Just beware of this ship if you do go on it.. Ship is good...STAFF NEEDS WORK. Read Less

My spouse and I like NCL and wanted to try out the new ship the Bliss! The ship itself is gorgeous! The observation lounge is well appointed with food options there. The bar staff was great especially the “chocolate cowboy “ in the mojito bar! He greeted every customer by name and knew their drink after waiting on them the first time! The new restaurants were okay. I probably would not choose to eat there again ( Los Lobos and Q) The parties were the same tired songs and dances, it’s like the movie ground hog’s day same old same old!! The DJ only played rock, fist pumping, head banging and Latin music! The night club was filled with intoxicated people spilling their drinks all over the dance floor creating a hazard and lawsuit waiting to happen with s slip and fall!! Another hazard was small children unattended at buffet trying to reach hot food off counter that they are not tall enough to see what is actually on counter!! The game shows were the same from ship to ship with same questions. Get real and someone be original!!!! The comedians were horrible especially the host ... very sad. The photography staff was funnier than the comedians were.. SMH NCL has threre newer ships going to the same tired islands.. St Thomas, Bahamas.... really!!!!! If they insist on going to the Bahamas then please go to NCL’s private island!! Please change your itinerary NCL to include different islands for the newer ships coming out. Go to Aruba!! The ship itself was clean, and nice looking and most staff were friendly and engaging!! The cruise director was friendly, funny and out and about the ship every day!!! NCL needs to change up their itineraries, get a better DJ, change up theme parties and DJ to add all genres to parties and night club scene. Set and enforce drinking on dance floor while fist pumping to the sane music, add better comedians and enforce a minimum age in children to service themselves at buffet area. NCL safety and cleanliness should be your first priority. Lastly the muster drill was a joke. They had about 100 people stuffed in the small space by the cavern bar for this “very important requirement “!! So people did not pay attention at all . Maybe they could have s way for passengers to watch on video and after maybe scan card at beginning and end on presentation in your own cabin. That would help alleviate the mass exit from the drill as a whole in some small places!! Hopefully someone at NCL actually read and move for changes on these beautiful vessels!! On a positive note the race track cars were great but they missed an opportunity to have pics taken on Racetrack!! Money pit the doir!! Read Less

This ship is too big. This was our third cruise with Norwegian (past cruises on Getaway and Escape). We were disappointed that Spice H2O was cut to half the size on the other ships to accommodate the loading area of the "race track" (the racing was pathetic, speed controlled by NCL employee and only a 3 or 4 laps, no room for passing). The Glow party became the Family Glow party and lasted one hour after which the DJ packed up his equipment and went elsewhere. We were also a little put off by the race track and laser tag taking up one whole deck. they took out the free activities and replaced them with revenue producing ones. I would rather have the ropes course, climbing wall, and basketball court rather then having to pay for the rather pathetic race track and rarely open laser tag. Other than that the crew and food were excellent. We ate at Q twice and it was probably the beast BBQ I have had. They are changing the drink menus also (no more Mango Meltdowns) and a lot of trainee bartenders that don't know anything beyond the basic mixed drinks. Christmas decorations were pretty, but blocked the view of the atrium from above, which is where we usually watch the shows from. The port at Nassau was awful, three other mega ships in port with us, excursions were rushed and crowded, not worth the time or expense, St. Thomas and Tortola were ok, but I don't think we will ever go on this itinerary again. We chose this cruise due to timing and itinerary. Also, having sailed several smaller ships, wanted to try a mega. My review is based on prior experience on smaller ships, so I’m not sure if I should have been surprised. First, I’m a fan of the freestyle dining and give very high marks to “Q” which was the best food on the ship. This could be an industry change, but all “included” meals did not match the quality I’ve experienced on RCC or HAC. Outside of Coco’s, which is phenomenal, I found the desserts to be disappointing, Loved the race track but would never do it more than once. The music/entertainment is outstanding. Especially recommend the Beatles cover band and 4Blue. My biggest disappointments involve the lack of service and personalized attention I have grown accustomed to. Other than the first day, did I ever experience anyone walking around with drink service. Regular restaurant service was poor and the sentiment of staff felt like they were doing us a favor by waiting on us. Several food orders wrong, which I can accept, except recovery also failed. Sat at many tables just waiting to be acknowledged by wait staff or brought coffee or refills. Let’s talk about the unlimited drink package: strange that includes all drinks up to $15.00, but not plain orange juice, water or coffee. Definitely felt like non-drinkers were on the wrong boat. Watch your pours at the bar: I had to take a breathalyzer test due to an accident and it registered 0.00, after 2 mojitos. They tasted good, but what was in them? Line does efficient job with getting on and off the boat, and muster drill was also super efficient - best one yet. Cabin was lovely and space used efficiently. First time on a cruise I had storage space I didn’t use. 11th floor balcony room with double sink. Steward was very good at securing eggcrate mattress topper to add comfort. Overall, the ship is stunning and allows for many places to explore and enjoy. But if you are wanting service and expect folks to assist you, choose another. It’s really ashame as basic training and English lessons could improve the customer experience 10x fold. Read Less

While the observation deck on this ship was wonderful, it is not their best ship. The observation deck was on Deck 15 and very nice. You could lay there in comfortable lounges to read a book, what the views leaving the port or what ever suited you. It was quiet and clean. The entertainment staff on this ship was EXCEPTIONAL! A lot fun, laughter, and friendly people! Cagney's steakhouse had awesome food! The ribeye is the best I have had in a long time. This ship has an adults only pool (no offense to anyone) which I thought was GREAT! The cabins are normal size, we had a balcony, but seemed to have more storage then on other ships. Our room steward was nice and friendly but we had to continually ask for towels. The pool waiters were rude and slow. Some of the staff all over the ship were not very friendly at all. Especially in the Manhattan restaurant. The food was very good, when it was finally served to you. The NCL app is worthless. Worked once the entire 7 day cruise. A lot of passengers had the same issue. The bottle water policy is the worst. They only give you one liter bottles that barely fit in the frig. This ship was totally understaffed. It was a pretty ship but I stil think the best ship is the Getaway. Read Less

I am Elite on Princess (40 sailings) but wanted a bit more excitement than they offer and I have frequently sailed on Celebrity. I've sailed on Norwegian (Pearl, Epic, Gateaway and Bliss) four times. I was traveling with a group of 16 and the group wanted a fun-time with a younger environment so we selected the Bliss. I was most excited to sail on the Bliss. The Bliss is a beautiful ship with a wonderful observation area on 15, staterooms are beautiful, disembarkation and embarkation was the best of any cruise. The Bliss is very clean and the staff was wonderful. My stateroom was on deck 14 two floors below deck 16 which is often times referred to as the Lido deck on other ships. I could hear the music starting around 11:00 am and ending around 12:00 or later every evening. Never an opportunity for nap if you are a light sleeper-- music mostly all day and night. I experienced a squeaking/knocking sound coming from the sliding door for better than fours days before I called the Customer Service Desk which they repaid and sent a wonderful gift for any inconvenience this may have caused. I was not able to see any shows due to no open reservation (you have to make a reservation) or partake in the racing cars because they were booked up quickly or only late night appointments were available. The one treat that I love most on all Norwegian cruises is the coconut sherbet. To my disappointment they had no coconut sherbet. The food on the buffet was average although the oxtails and chicken gumbo was outstanding. Seating in what they call the Garden Cafe was a bit of a challenge during lunch and breakfast but you would eventually find a place as on most ships. The Fitness Center was outstanding with wonderful hours. You can get on the treadmill at 6:00 am. With all side I would sail again staying on a lower deck away from deck 16 and making reservation as soon as i get on the ship. Read Less

I selected this cruise for a look at the new ship, Bliss, and the warmth of the Mexican Riviera. I got only 1/2 of that promise fulfilled since Hurricane Wila prevented the Bliss from sailing south. So, while I saw the ship, I also saw San Francisco (I live 50 miles away and it is no big deal...or any deal to me), San Diego where I was stationed in the military, and Ensenada, which a friend called "Tijuana by the Sea". Pluses included: 1) Awesome Observation Lounge on the Bliss. Beautiful, not crowded and affording great views. 2) Thermal suite: Big, lots of heated couches, great therapy pool. 3) Two excellent shows: Havana and Jersey Boys 4) Good embark particularly considering 4,000 passengers 5) Big buffet with good views (but would get crowded) 6) Specialty restaurants were very good to excellent. Cagney's, Q, Le Bistro and Teppanyaki all more than met my expectations 7) Buffet, The Local, Taste/Savor all had good service and good food. Not so good: 1) The theatre, unlike the smaller ships, looks like a cardboard box. The entries are almost nondescript and, while the productions were good, the whole area is without style. 2) "Office building" decor in many places. Lobby not as impressive as other smaller ships (like the Star, Jewel, Pearl or Sun). 3) Gym has lots of equipment, but only two exercise bikes. For which there was some contention but no contention for the myriad stair masters and treadmills. 4) No real promenade. Guests can walk back and forth on deck 7, by the life rafts to dead ends, around deck 8 (the Waterfront) but only by going into and out of the interior of the ship, or around a short loop on Deck 17 while contending with joggers. 5) Closet design in my stateroom (148362) was not good. Impinged at one end so that clothes couldn't really hand there, too close to the couch which blocked easy entry, and with doors that looked like something from IKEA, as did most of the staterooms furnishing. 6) NCL provided disembark was OK until it was marred by a bus that had little luggage capacity because it was storing spare tires for the bus. So we were loaded up and then made to get off and go to another bus. The port does get real crowded with 4,000 people trying to leave at the same time. 7) The Bliss is BIG with lots of decks. Hoofing it from deck 6 (restaurants) to our stateroom on 14 certainly raised my heart rate. But that is the nature of the newer huge ships. Read Less

Inside cabin 12th deck met our expectations, plenty of room for the two of us. 1st stop Ensenada La Bufadora - really cool but be aware, you have to walk about a mile from where the bus drops you off thru the gauntlet of Mexican vendors! I suggested at the excursion desk upon return they should make a specific note on the distance walking, the desk Mgr. clearly was not interested in my suggestion stating the excursion was already rated as moderate indicating the walking required. 2nd stop Puerto Vallarta - Las Caletas & John Huston private island. We thought the price was a steep for what you get but it was a beautiful place. We took the cooking class and enjoyed the food, was really good with the open bar. Beach is not quite as they describe in fact at high tide there is little beach at all. Would recommend just one time, it was very pretty. 3rd stop Cabos - We took the catamaran sail over to Santa Maria cove. Easily the best excursion, we swam with thousands of fish, of course it helps when your tour guide releases food for the fish. Would definitely recommend this. Hurricane turning toward us prevented a stop at Mazatlan. Sad we could not visit but understand. On board unlimited go carts was the bomb, really really fun. Had read difficult to ride, but did not have that experience. Food - clearly the cruise line would love to just shut down the main dining room and have you go to the buffet or pay extra for the specialty restaurants. Very average FREE food! Entertainment - sad the days of fun entertainment every night in the theater is gone. The Jersey boys Valli lead singer was not quite on point, we understand hard to find someone with that tone for sure. Overall the show was fine. Havana was also fine, would have rather seen another USA type musical or show. The other nights were filled with miscellaneous shows not really worth watching so really just 2 different shows. For those smokers - just be aware if you like to smoke, you have a small little corner near the bar at the very back of the ship to smoke. I personally am not a smoker but why that entire area near the bar is not open to smoking was beyond me. Overall very average, getting onto the ship and off was really easy. We stayed at the crown plaza across the street from the port and did the park and ride which was really easy and I would recommend if parking your car for a week. Read Less

...the printed info that you are given is misleading. There are different food packages that you can purchase. The printed info you recieve will suggest you have many more options for "free" or covered places to eat than you actually have. You'll sit down, order, then find out, opps this place isn't covered by your package even tho it says it is on your info page. Also, on our cruise, there was a medical emergency. Someone fell down some stairs. The Captain announced that he was going to forego going through the glacier fields (which was the main highlight that most passengers were looking forward to) in order to get to Juneau a few hours sooner. What I and every passingger that I talked to wondered why they didn't helicopter the person to a hospital. Especially when you are asked to purchase additional insurance to cover being helicoptered for a medical emergency. Finally, Jersey Boys was great! Read Less

We chose the cruise because of the show Jersey Boys. The show was wonderful. All of the entertainment on the ship was excellent. The ship was clean and well staffed but the staff often had language difficulties. Overall, the price for the cruise, compared to the quality of the cruise, was too much. We have traveled to Australia for two and a half weeks for less than this cruise cost us. We felt like we were nickled and dimed to death by the cruise line. There was an additional fee for the go karts and one of the theatre shows. The dining was rather disappointing. There was a large selection of food in the cafeteria with the buffet, but the food was usually just warm and the quality was mediocre. There was not a restaurant that served brunch. The Mexican specialty restaurant was awful and overpriced. The steak and BBQ restaurants were pricey but excellent. The beverage package was the best deal for the money on the ship. Don't waste your money on the water package, the ship's water is just as good as the bottled water. Read Less

We booked our cruise one year ahead. We were so excited to cruise on the Bliss. Upon boarding we tried to book reservations for go karts and laser tag... Totally booked up. Evening shows were booked and only stand by was available. This was the first day! Everything had an extra charge, my 11 year old had over $300 charged for Arcade play before they locked her card. The buffet food was delicious, but there were not enough tables and people had to hover over other guests, to get a place. Guests were irritated and often somewhat rude. The bars and staff were awesome, the balcony room was very nicely furnished and comfortable. Our steward was very polite, calling each of us by name from day one. Almost every elevator ride had a wait and people continued to load until it was uncomfortable. If I were rating the beauty and luxury of the ship and the courteous, professional staff it would be a 5+ star rating. Unfortunately, with the overcrowding and even a 40 minute wait for an elevator, it drops the score to 3. So disappointed, we will cruise NCL again, but on the Pearl or Jewel, not another monster ship which equates to a floating city of 5000 people. Read Less

New ship, Breakaway class, Alaska. Inside Passage. Stunning scenery. There was no dancing floor in Manhattan Room although we were told repeated when we called that there will be. Throughout the ship, the little floor they had at night clubs were often covered by tables. The atrium was the last place left and unfit for packing in over 100 dancers. We were most disappointed because we sailed three times on the Breakaway and once on the Escape, both with Manhattan Room for dinner dancing. Food, identical menu to other NCL ships, but clearly better prepared or better delivered. A very pleasant surprise. Having chowder on observation deck most of the time was a great improvement. The observation deck was designed as numerous connected living rooms. This is a great feature for privacy and access to view. Service in general was great. room was clean and quiet but small. Shower was adequate and enjoyable. We did not get to see the glacier because of ice problems on the water inlet. Weather was in the 80F and sunny week. People the week before, rainy and colder, had no ice problem. Did see six humpback whales on whale watching. Best photos from smaller boats. Having the Garden Cafe now in the front of the ship is super confusing for us. However, it makes it possible to bring food down from it to the observation room easily. Seating hard to come by often in the Garden Cafe. Diners there often aggressive because of this. Bliss and Escape each added a floor of rooms without adding service support capacity, hence both led to overcrowding. Cannot recommend these ships! Read Less

I received 1 bag, 2nd bag never got checked into airline. Hopeful 2nd bag will show up. Will never use this system again. The ship is great, service wonderful. Front desk for service is understaffed, very slow!! Food excellent, bartender's very attentive. The spa would not let you buy a day pass for back wet area, and soak very high pressure to purchase their products, more than usual.NCL charging extra for everything. Laser tag, and go carts are an uncharged. They will only take dinner reservations up to 25%capacity ahead of cruise, so you have to call as soon as you get on ship to restaurants for reservations. Which I did not get most. I have always loved NCL, but not the same. Read Less

We just returned from the inaugural cruise to Alaska on the NCL Bliss. Alaska is mindblowing, it's lush, vast and beautiful and even just a sampling of it that we experienced was wonderful. Similarly the NCL Bliss is equally stunning. It's big, clean, well appointed and has many fun features that make it a step above many of it's competitors. However a ship in and of itself is not enough. The huge staff that service the 4700 cruisers that joined this first foray into SE Alaska is the most critical component to making your experience memorable. Many of the cruise personnel were great. Cruise Director Silas was great, engaging, personable and fun. Many of his staff and the kid club staff were excellent. However many of our interactions on the cruise with the dining room staff did not meet expectations. The Manhattan, Savor and Taste dining rooms were slow, unaccommodating and the staff seemed confused or apathetic. In contrast the dining at the Specialty restaurants such as Tepanyaki, Cagney's, Le Bistro and the Q were great. The real problem with NCL's model, which isn't much different than other cruise ships, is the constant upsell. NCL seemed to take it to the next level and general experiences that one would think are just there to pass time or educate you are really opportunities to extract more money from your wallet. Even the premier features; laser tag and go carts, which were both great fun, require additional fees. In all we loved Alaska and the Ship but were whelmed by the staff and on board experiences. Whether it's more training or a need to change the model of customer service we feel something should change before we use NCL again. The good: Room was well designed, great bathroom, comfortable Specialty dining was great in all locations we used Observation deck was nice, but usually crowded and not much room available Splash Academy staff were excellent Jersey Boys and Beatles Ports were great, just too amazing to describe The Bad: General Dining room staff were not very good or in some cases apathetic Havana: thin plot, non-engaging music despite great voices of the cast. Garden Cafe was always crowded at meal times and food options didn't change much Pool only lightly used due to the cooler temps, Haven pool is covered, not so for general pool Constant push to charge extra for nearly everything Read Less

Inaugural cruise, crossing the Atlantic Ocean. The ship was beautiful however only 2300 people were on the ship and you could not get a seat in any of the bars to listen to the music. I was in the Haven and the room was extremely small, never been on anything that small . The room had a bathtub that was so small and curved you could not stand properly I have a problem climbing so I asked for a seat for the tub and they supplied me with one, however, the seat did not fit in the tub . Comforter on the bed Was so heavy it would fall off the bed on the floor when you got up during a good chance you could trip and fall(good thing I travel with a light). The haven restaurant should have a different menu every night or a special for the night you get tired of the same every night. They give you 4 specialty restaurant and that was nice, but it is nice if you could meet people in the haven and eat with them. Food was great and service excellent. Read Less
