The Gift of Glacier Bay

Review for a Alaska Cruise on Nieuw Amsterdam

This was our fifth cruise on HAL and we were looking forward to a 14 day trip to Alaska with new ports and a return to Glacier Bay. I dislike starting a review with a negative but please stick around - it gets much better. Embarkation was a nightmare - almost three hours of waiting in numerous lines. Just when we thought we reached the end of a long line, we were directed to another line for a ...

Review for a Panama Canal & Central America Cruise on Nieuw Amsterdam

We had never been on a Panama Canal cruise even after having sailed on more than 50 cruises. Our cabin was a balcony and was very nice. This cabin was smaller than some we have enjoyed but was still fine. The fact it had a tub/shower was nice. The beds were comfortable with very nice pillows. The fact there was no turndown service was disappointing. This is the first time we have encountered this, ...

Holland America Nieuw Amsterdam Eastern Caribbean

We selected this cruise because of the ports offered and the price point. We enjoyed our excursion on Grand Turk which involved a tour of the island, lunch and conch fritter making as well as a stop at Governor's Beach with chairs and umbrellas included as well. It was almost like being on a private beach! Our St.Thomas Tour was lackluster at best. Maegan's Beach was CROWDED and you had to rent ...

Review for a Caribbean - Southern Cruise on Nieuw Amsterdam

Chose this cruise as we wanted to try Holland America and the itinerary included Bonaire where we have never been. Sadly, three days prior to the embarkation Bonaire was cancelled. We departed Port Everglades and made our way to Half Moon Cay. Unfortunately, the seas were to rough for the tenders so that stop was out. The captain said that we would be going to Aruba (not a scheduled stop) ...

This was our second cruise on the Nieuw Amsterdam. The first was the last week of February 2020, the week before Covid shut down cruising. We enjoyed the ship and crew the first time around and decided to try her again. This was the southern Carribean trip to HMC, Aruba and Curacao. Love HMC and it had been a few years since we visited the other two ports. This cruise includes three sea days which ...

We did a back to back on the Nieuw Amsterdam using covid future cruise credits. We took the offer to upgrade to a sky suite & it was well worth it. Except for the internet... Slow, unreliable & a headache.. Room attendant, Meals, bar-staff & ship were excellent! Because were were on the 2nd week we didn't have to go thru the cattle call embarkation with no room to sit the week ...

We're past HA Cruisers. We have 15+ cruises that we've enjoyed. Everything was really good about his cruise except 3 things. 1. The boarding process was a cattle car. 1500 or so people stuck in a terminal in Ft. Lauderdale with room for 800 to sit. And it took forever to get all the groups aboard. 2. The internet speed. 3. The internet being down far too often. This is 2023, not 1999. ...

This was our 20th anniversary cruise, and we did back-to-back 7 day cruises (western/eastern Caribbean). We are 3-star Mariners on HAL, and this was our 3rd trip since Covid hit. Compared to the last two post-covid trips, this was a good improvement. We started getting towel animals again (a simple add but delightful), they had some fresh flowers on board (prior two cruises they were mostly ...

This is my 5th MSM cruise, I go for the chance to see the great ones... Dion (headlining), Righteous Bros, Frankie Avalon & Brooklyn Bridge. Then come these groups on the Lido or Ocean decks, Crow's Nest etc, not mainstage, & wow! Sounds of the Street, December '63 & those Elvis tribute artists (aka Elvi), are just superb. Just love being able to talk to them, get a pic w/Bill Medley again, etc. ...

Escape to cooler weather to charming Alaska

We have sailed on HAL many times. This time it was a seven day Vancouver to Whittier (Anchorage). Last August we sailed on the same ship out and back from Seattle. Trips from Canada add to the complexity of the paperwork, but we managed. Covid testing at a CVS back home (Las Vegas) was free and results were sent in less than twenty-four hours. This vessel was 70% occupied, masks required ...
