First HAL Cruise Meets Overall Expectations

Review for a Caribbean - All Cruise on Nieuw Amsterdam

This was our first HAL cruise and our 7th overall. DW and I had wanted to try HAL for a few years and this was a great deal on the last minute sale. We booked a verandah guarantee about 3 weeks out, and about a week before sailing, were offered an upsell to a Signature Suite for just a few dollars more. We snapped that up and looked forward to getting on the Nieuw ...

My wife and I enjoyed the cruise. Booked another on the cruise. The food was very enjoyable. We dined mostly in the Lido but twice in the MDR. Wish the food was labeled. Liked that it was served by staff which seemed much more sanitary. The happy hours where a good value. Staff was friendly. We really liked the service from our room steward Ichsan. He was very pleasant and did an ...

A good first cruise on HAL

This was our first cruise on HAL. We typically cruise on Norwegian or Royal Caribbean but got an outstanding deal on this cruise so we decided to give HAL a try. I would say that overall we really enjoyed the cruise and felt that it was a very good experience for the price. There were some things that I felt exceeded expectations and a few that feel a bit short of our desires. We knew ...

My wife and I (71) booked this Caribbean cruise this past June while travelling on a 14 day Holland America Westerdam cruise from Seattle to Alaska. We always book a Interior Cabin. Embarkation at Port Everglades (Ft. Lauderdale) was superb in every way. Arrived at 11:00 by parking shuttle and were on board by noon and it was extremely easy with minimal waiting and friendly staff. Luggage ...

Pleasant ship and crew, main stage shows lacking

We choose this cruise to get our first taste of HAL, which line has longer cruises in which we have an interest. The result was mixed. Many wonderful extras in service, lovely promendade deck with relaxing deck chairs, a great music deck with duel pianos playing a variety of music, classical music site, and a fantastic rock and roll soul band at BB Kings. 3 PM tea with finger sandwhiches was a ...

MSM, some surprises

This was a charter, Malt Shop Memories, my 4th one. It's a 7d cruise, you go on for the entertainment. It's very pricey, you hope to meet the stars, singers etc. The surprise is how inaccessible The Beach Boys & Smokey were, & how good/friendly the back up bands/acts were. Brooklyn Bridge (Jimmy Rosica :D) , Zmed Brothers/Everly tribute artists (wow!), Joey Dee (yay), Chris Montez, Sounds of ...

Sailed on a 7 night itinerary from Ft Lauderdale to Half Moon Cay, Grand Turks, Amber Cove and Key West. Had sailed on the Nieuw Amsterdam about 18 months ago and really enjoyed the cruise. However, this time some things just seemed "off" and different from the last sailing. So I am disappointed as this sailing was not what I had expected, but it was still an overall ok / good cruise and would ...

We were looking for a short cruise while in Florida. Usually any cruise itinerary that includes Half Moon Cay will get our attention. This one didn't disappoint. We enjoyed the staff and ambience of HAL. More mature and loyal cruisers. Loved the ship. During our stop in San Juan we took the excursion to the Window Caves. We totally recommend it. Informative and something you don't do ...

We decided about 18 months ago to take a trip for our 15th anniversary and we went with close friends who were married the same year. We are 2 couples ranging in age from mid-40's to early 50's, We selected Holland America because of their history cruising in Alaska. We also liked the idea of a smaller, quieter ship. While we are not seniors we tend to go to bed early and don't need the night life ...
