Escape to cooler weather to charming Alaska
"I liked the smaller venue shows: string quartet in the Lincoln Center, pop music at BB King lounge The comedians fill the lounge to overflowing,, Good comedy but not "blue,"" Excursions: Last August, bears out of Ketchikan were dining on salmon in a small creek, with us watching from a platform.Last August, drinks were free for players, but this July, not so much...."Read More

Very enjoyable late season Alaska cruise including Denali

The Nieuw Amsterdam seems a little dated compared to the Koningsdam and other Pinnacle class ships. We were very pleased with our Verandah cabin and the MDR and Lido food was better than on a recent cruise on the Koningsdam. We have tried the specialty restaurants on past cruises but don't think it's worth the cost. The option to add extra $$ menu items in the MDR is not a bad idea! The BB King ...

Good Cruise. Disappointing Denali Land Tour!

My wife and I have cruised on many different lines and ships. This trip was our first with Holland America. The Nieuw Amsterdam is what I would call a moderate sized ship, especially when compared to the newer “mega ships”. We found the ship itself to be clean and for the most part, well run. It is slightly older, as are it’s passengers! The food was quite good and we used the dining room ...

We had been planning a cruise tour and my brother booked this one, so it was similar to what we were looking at. Our room stewards were excellent. There was plenty of activities to keep you going if you wanted. We had sprinkles or rain most days but still had great views. New York pizza was very good. Also the fries at Dive In, just really good. Pinnacle Grill, filet was excellent along with ...

Enjoyed the cruise but had a few disappointments.

We sailed on this cruise with a good sized group of friends to celebrate some birthdays. We had a great time overall but were left with a few disappointments at times. Some things that were great - the itinerary, the Cabin and attendants, overall ship cleanliness and conditions. Some things that were challenging - Their was a push about the ship and lines entertainment. There was only ...

Well organised scenic cruise

We chose Holland America because of their long experience in Alaska and were not disappointed. The scenery was as spectacular as we had hoped for and the ship docked in the most favourable berths at the three ports. The cruise director was both efficient and knowledgeable. The wildlife expert, Kurt, was highly approachable and available outside on the expansive open stern deck 9 whenever there ...

Disappointment in Holland America

The thing that made Holland stand out from other Cruise lines and was a tradition is now gone. On every Holland ship you could count on there would be a Priest. But now you are like any other cruise line a real disappointment. Embarkation was a slow painful process it seems that Vancouver is becoming harder and harder to board. The ship was fine and the personnel were pleasant and ...

This was our fifth cruise on HAL and we were looking forward to a 14 day trip to Alaska with new ports and a return to Glacier Bay. I dislike starting a review with a negative but please stick around - it gets much better. Embarkation was a nightmare - almost three hours of waiting in numerous lines. Just when we thought we reached the end of a long line, we were directed to another line for a ...

We had never been on a Panama Canal cruise even after having sailed on more than 50 cruises. Our cabin was a balcony and was very nice. This cabin was smaller than some we have enjoyed but was still fine. The fact it had a tub/shower was nice. The beds were comfortable with very nice pillows. The fact there was no turndown service was disappointing. This is the first time we have encountered this, ...

We have sailed on HAL many times. This time it was a seven day Vancouver to Whittier (Anchorage). Last August we sailed on the same ship out and back from Seattle. Trips from Canada add to the complexity of the paperwork, but we managed. Covid testing at a CVS back home (Las Vegas) was free and results were sent in less than twenty-four hours. This vessel was 70% occupied, masks required ...

Really enjoyed the cruise. Being out and about on the ship, feeling the ship as it rocked and rolled with the seas, dining in the various facilities, seeing the Alaskan sights and sounds. All in all - it was a great re-start for the cruising. ❖Boarding was extremely quick and efficient. First station reviewed the passports, vaccinations, & test results, then security scan, then Face scan ...
