Azamara Pursuit

(5:57 p.m. EDT) -- Destination-intensive cruise line Azamara Club Cruises has named two figures from acclaimed travel publications Afar and Travel Weekly UK as the godmothers of its newest cruise ship, Azamara Pursuit. The ship is the first in Azamara's fleet to have a godmother.

Afar Media's EVP and chief revenue officer, Ellen Asmodeo-Giglio, and Travel Weekly UK editor-in-chief, Lucy Huxley, will both christen the ship at its naming ceremony on August 28, 2018. Godmothers are a traditional part of launching a new ship.

"Ellen and Lucy's fearless dedication to adventure, and respect and admiration for different cultures, aligns with Azamara's commitment and passion to Destination Immersion experiences," said Larry Pimentel, Azamara's president and CEO, in a statement. "Both Ellen and Lucy are travel influencers in their own right, and we couldn't be more thrilled to have them christen our new ship, Azamara Pursuit."

Following the ceremony, which takes place in Southampton, the ship will sail to Cherbourg, France, where all 690 passengers can embark on a complimentary shore excursion. The cruise will conclude with Azamara's popular White Night, an evening top-deck party where cruisers can enjoy food, music and dancing by the pool.

Azamara Pursuit's maiden voyage will depart on August 1, roundtrip from Southampton, and include multiple stops in Norway. The second cruise will focus on Iceland, before returning to Southampton for its christening. The ship will spend the remainder of its first season sailing in Europe and South America.

Design-wise, Azamara Pursuit will be nearly identical to its sisters Azamara Journey and Azamara Quest. It also will include gratuities, all soft drinks and select alcoholic beverages, and one AzAmazing Evening shoreside event per cruise in its cruise fares.
