(9:30 a.m. EDT) -- Oprah Winfrey, who sailed to Alaska onboard a Holland America cruise last summer, has now been named godmother to the line's forthcoming ship, Nieuw Statendam.
The announcement comes in conjunction with plans for a three-day "Girls' Getaway" cruise aboard Nieuw Statendam hosted by Oprah and Gayle King, longtime friend and editor-at-large of "O, The Oprah Magazine". The cruise, on January 30, 2019, is set to sail roundtrip from Fort Lauderdale, stopping in Half Moon Cay and will focus on celebrating "the power of friendship" with onboard experiences that "honor and pay tribute to the special bond between women," according to a news release.
Passengers will be able to attend one of three live "Conversations with Oprah," in addition to an array of special events -- style sessions, a Reading Room, meditation held on and off the ship-- hosted by members of the magazine's editorial staff and special guests.
Holland America has had a running partnership with "O, The Oprah Magazine," since last year, featuring book clubs onboard many of its ships, selling Oprah's "favorite things" in its shops and hosting classes like a daily "Just Breathe" meditation.
"We are so excited to have Oprah set sail with us again for the Girls' Getaway cruise in partnership with O, The Oprah Magazine, and we're deeply honored that Oprah will serve as godmother of Nieuw Statendam," said Orlando Ashford, president of Holland America Line, in the release. "We anticipate the energy and inspirational spirit will be unlike any other cruise experience there is -- and life-changing for many."
Nieuw Statendam is currently under construction at Fincantieri's Marghera shipyard, in Italy. While no date has been announced for the official dedication and private ceremony, the first official sailing is set to take place on December 5, 2018 from Civitavecchia (Rome).
"The partnership with Holland America Line has been a dream come true," said Jayne Jamison, senior vice president, publisher and chief revenue officer of "O, The Oprah Magazine" in the release. "Our teams have worked seamlessly together to create unforgettable moments inspired by content in the magazine for the January 2019 sailing that reflect our core values and goals of helping people expand their horizons and live their best life."
